Description

Title of the invention: Processing method and device for vehicle sharing Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to the sharing of a vehicle, in particular but not exclusively a motor vehicle. The invention relates in particular to processing methods and devices for enabling the sharing of a vehicle for a user wishing to make a trip. Technological background

[0002] Urban mobility is a major challenge of our time, with a constant increase in the number of vehicles circulating in urban areas. This growth has led to traffic congestion, greenhouse gas emissions and parking problems. In response to these challenges, the promotion of vehicle sharing, such as carpooling, has become a widely accepted solution to reduce the negative impact of urban mobility on the environment and improve resource use.

[0003] Car sharing offers many benefits. Urban areas are often overloaded with vehicles, leading to traffic jams and delays. Car sharing helps reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, thus helping to alleviate congestion in urban areas.

[0004] Personal vehicles are also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. Encouraging vehicle sharing can reduce emissions and promote environmental sustainability.

[0005] In addition, personal vehicles are often unused for a large part of the day. Vehicle sharing allows for maximizing the use of existing resources.

[0006] Although carpooling and other forms of vehicle sharing are already widely adopted, they present problems and limitations that hinder their adoption and effectiveness. In particular, current solutions, such as carpooling platforms, present constraints and limitations that do not allow a real boom in this mode of transport.

[0007] Thus, current solutions for sharing motor vehicles can be complex to use for certain users and not always be adapted to their needs. Summary of the present invention

[0029] Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description of the particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiments of the present invention below, with reference to the appended figures 1 to 3, in which:

[0030] [Fig.l] schematically illustrates an environment comprising a device for treatment as well as a vehicle carrying a control device, according to at least one particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention;

[0031] [Fig.2] schematically illustrates the processing device of [Fig.l], according to at least one particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention; and

[0032] [Fig. 3] illustrates a diagram of different steps of a processing method implemented by the processing device of [Fig. 1], according to at least one particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Description of the exemplary embodiments

[0033] A method and a processing device for sharing a vehicle will now be described in the following with reference to Figures 1-3 according to particular embodiments. Unless otherwise indicated, the elements common or similar to several figures bear the same reference signs and have identical or similar characteristics, so that these common elements are generally not described again for the sake of simplicity.

[0034] The terms "first(s)", "second(s)", etc.) are used in this document by arbitrary convention to enable different elements (such as operations, means, etc.) implemented in the embodiments described below to be identified and distinguished.

[0035] As previously indicated, the invention relates in particular to a processing method for sharing a vehicle, such as a car or other type vehicle, or more generally a motorized land vehicle type vehicle. This method is based in particular on taking into account user data to determine a user's travel need. Vehicle data is also received by vehicle-to-Cloud communication, known as V2C (for Vehicle-to-Cloud in English) from a vehicle. If the vehicle data meets the travel need, a recommendation for sharing said vehicle is generated and sent to the user's terminal.

[0036] According to a particular and non-limiting example of embodiment of the present invention, this method comprises: - receiving, from a client terminal, user data including a user's calendar data, the user's location data and preference data indicating the user's travel preferences; - detection, from user data, of a need for the user to travel in order to make a trip; - receiving, from the vehicle via vehicle-to-Cloud communication, known as V2C, vehicle data including vehicle location data and availability data indicating the vehicle's capacity to accommodate; - if the vehicle data meets the user's need in accordance with the user data, generating a vehicle sharing recommendation, said recommendation identifying the vehicle as a sharing candidate to carry out said trip; and - sending the vehicle sharing recommendation to the customer terminal.

[0037] Other aspects and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the exemplary embodiments described below with reference to the drawings mentioned above.

[0038] [Fig.l] schematically illustrates a processing device DV1 and a terminal T1 capable of cooperating together to enable the sharing of a vehicle 2 to a user UR1 who has a travel need. The processing device DV1 and the terminal T1 together form a processing system SY1.

[0039] As illustrated, it is assumed by way of example that a user UR1 uses a client terminal T1 to determine a means (or mode) of transport in order to carry out a trip 10 from a starting position PSI to an arrival position PS2. In this example, the positions PSI and PS2 correspond for example respectively to the home and the workplace PS2 of the user UR1, other examples being possible however. The user UR1 can for example opt for the use of public transport (or public transport, or collective transport) 4, such as a train, tram, bus, coach or other, to carry out his trip 10. An alternative solution consists of using the vehicle 2 during a sharing arrangement. This vehicle 2 can for example be a vehicle used by a third party, the latter offering a carpooling, or chauffeur, or taxi service.

[0040] For this purpose, the processing device DV 1 and the terminal T1 can communicate together to exchange information, for example via a 4G, 5G or any other suitable communication link.

[0041] The processing device DV 1 may be all or part of a server, or a server network, or more generally a computer infrastructure comprising means configured to carry out the steps of the processing method according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention. An example of implementation of the processing device DV1 is described later. It is assumed hereinafter by way of example that the processing device DV1 is a server, although other types of infrastructure may be used.

[0042] As illustrated, the DV server 1 is configured to cooperate with the terminal T1 and with a vehicle 2 to assist the user UR1 in his trip 10. As described below, the DV server can thus propose to the user UR1 a recommendation to share the vehicle 2 in order to carry out the trip 10.

[0043] The type and characteristics of the vehicle 2 may vary depending on the case. It is assumed for example that the vehicle 2 is of the automobile type or equivalent. Alternatively, this vehicle can be a car, a bus, a truck, a utility vehicle or a motorcycle, or more generally a vehicle of the motorized land vehicle type.

[0044] According to a particular example, the vehicle 2 may be an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle.

[0045] More particularly, the server DV1 may comprise at least one processor and a non-volatile memory. The server DV 1 is configured to implement a processing process (or method) as described below. For this purpose, the server DV 1 may comprise a computer program PG1 stored in the non-volatile memory (Flash or ROM type memory for example), this computer program PG1 comprising instructions for implementing the processing method (or process) as described below. The processor is thus configured to execute in particular the instructions defined by the computer program PG1.

[0046] Furthermore, the client terminal T1 may be a smartphone type smart phone, a tablet, a laptop, or more generally any appropriate communication terminal capable of cooperating with the server DV 1 to enable the sharing of the vehicle 2 according to the processing method of the invention. The terminal T1 is for example a mobile terminal that the user URL carries or uses.

[0047] More particularly, the terminal T1 may comprise at least one processor and a non-volatile memory. The terminal T1 may comprise a computer program PG2 (for example an application) stored in its non-volatile memory (Flash or ROM type memory for example), this computer program PG2 comprising instructions for cooperating with the server DV 1 as described below. The processor of the terminal T1 is thus configured to execute in particular the instructions defined by the computer program PG2.

[0048] As shown in [Fig.l], the server DV1 is able to receive DTI user data from the terminal TL. This DTI user data, associated with the user UR1, includes DTI agenda data (or calendar data), DTlb location data and DTlc preference data.

[0049] According to one example, the DTI calendar data defines activities assigned to the user UR1 over time. For this purpose, this DTI calendar data may comprise calendar entries (or calendar entries), each calendar entry defining an activity (or a task) of the user UR1 in association with a temporal data item (for example a time and / or a date). This calendar data thus makes it possible to characterize the occupations of the user UR1 over time.

[0050] According to an example, the location data DTlb defines a location of the user UR1 at a given instant or over time. The server DV1 can receive location data DTlb defining a current position of the user UR1 (or more precisely of the terminal Tl), for example in real time or periodically. This location data DTlb includes for example geographic coordinates or GPS coordinates (for “Global Positioning System”) of the terminal Tl.

[0051] According to one example, the preference data DTlc define how the user UR1 wishes or prefers to carry out his or her journeys, such as journey 10 for example. This preference data DTlc may define various criteria to be respected during the journey, in particular by the shared vehicle 2. For example, the preference data DTlc may indicate that the user UR1 wishes to carry out a journey in the company of a pet or that he or she wishes to bring luggage. This preference data DTlc specifies the conditions according to which the user UR1 must be taken care of by the vehicle 10 during his or her journey 10.

[0052] As shown in [Fig.l], the server DV1 is configured in this example to cooperate via a communication link L1 with the vehicle 2, or more precisely with a control device DV2 on board the vehicle 2. This control device (also called on-board device) DV2 can for example take the form of a (or comprise a) computer, or a combination of computers.

[0053] The on-board device DV2 may be on-board electronic equipment such as a vehicle's on-board computer, an electronic calculator such as an ECU ("Electronic Control Unit"), a smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop. The elements of the on-board device DV2, individually or in combination, may be integrated into a single integrated circuit, into several integrated circuits, and / or into discrete components. The on-board device DV2 may be produced in the form of electronic circuits or software (or computer) modules or even a combination of electronic circuits and software modules.

[0054] The L1 communication link between enables vehicle-to-cloud communication, known as V2C. V2C technology enables two-way communication between the vehicle 2 and the remote server DV1, the latter being able to be hosted in the cloud (also known as the IT cloud). To do this, the control device DV2 comprises on-board communication means for exchanging data in real time or at regular intervals between the vehicle 2 and the server DV1.

[0055] As illustrated, the server DV1 is configured to receive, via the L1 communication link of type V2C, user data DT2 from the on-board device DV2. This user data DT2 comprises location data DT2a of the vehicle 2 and capacity data DT2b of the vehicle 2.

[0056] According to one example, the location data DT2a define a location of the vehicle 2 at a given instant or over time. The server DV1 can receive such location data DT2a defining a current position of the vehicle 2, for example in real time or periodically. This location data DT2a comprises, for example, geographic coordinates or GPS (for “Global Positioning System”) coordinates of the vehicle 2.

[0057] According to one example, the capacity data DT2b defines a capacity for receiving the vehicle 2, i.e. its capacity to receive passengers and / or equipment on board when sharing the vehicle 2 to carry out a trip, such as trip 10. By way of example, the capacity data DT2b can define an acceptable number of passengers on board, an acceptable number of pieces of luggage and / or weight of luggage, an animal acceptability criterion (acceptable / not acceptable animals, type of animals accepted, etc.), etc.

[0058] The server DV1 is configured to analyze the user data DTI and the vehicle data DT2 and to propose sharing of the vehicle 2 based on a result of this analysis. To do this, the server DV1 is in particular configured to detect, based on the user data DTI, a need for travel by the user UR1 to make a trip, namely trip 10 in this example.

[0059] If the vehicle data DT2 meets the need of the user UR1 as detected in accordance with the user data DTI, the server DV1 generates a vehicle sharing recommendation DT3, this recommendation DT3 identifying the vehicle 2 as a candidate for sharing to carry out the trip 10. In other words, the server DV1 proposes to the user UR1, by way of the recommendation DT3, to use the shared vehicle 2 to carry out the trip 10.

[0060] The server DV 1 can thus send, to the client terminal T1, the recommendation DT3 for vehicle sharing in order to propose as a mode of transport from PSI to PS2 the vehicle 2 available for sharing (for example in the context of carpooling).

[0061] As indicated above, the DV server 1 is configured to implement a processing process. This process is now described in conjunction with [Fig. 1] according to particular embodiments. The description of the environment of [Fig. 1] as previously described can be applied to the operations of the processing process.

[0062] In a first operation, the server DV 1 receives, from the client terminal T1 (or more precisely from the application PG2), user data DTI comprising calendar data DTla of the user UR1, location data DTlb of the user UR1 and preference data DTlc indicating UR1 user travel preferences.

[0063] In a second operation, the server DV1 detects, from the user data DTI, a need for movement of the user UR1 to perform a movement, namely in this example the movement 10 from the starting position PSI to the arrival position PS2. To do this, a prediction of a need for movement is for example made from the user data UR1 to estimate a movement 10 that the user UR1 must perform at a given time. This prediction can advantageously make it possible to anticipate or estimate a need for movement that the user UR1 encounters, or will encounter in the future, in view of his context as defined by the user data DTI.

[0064] According to an example, the server DV 1 determines, from the user data DTI, the travel habits of the user UR1 over time. The travel needs of the user UR1 are then detected (or determined) from these travel habits. It is thus possible to anticipate the travel needs of the user UR1 in order to offer him a relevant recommendation, and this proactively (or unsolicited) as described below.

[0065] According to one example, the travel habits determined by the DV server 1 include one (or at least one) regular travel that the user UR1 makes regularly according to the DTI user data. The DV server can thus detect a daily travel or a travel meeting criteria of repetitiveness over time (for example a travel made at least N times over a given period of time, where N>1).

[0066] In a third operation, the server DV 1 receives, from the vehicle 2 (or more particularly from the on-board device DV2), via a V2C type communication, vehicle data DT2 comprising location data DT2a of the vehicle 2 and capacity data DT2b indicating a reception capacity of the vehicle 2. The third operation can be carried out before, or after, or in parallel with the first and second operations described above.

[0067] In a fourth operation, the DV server 1 compares the vehicle data DT2 with the travel need of the user URL. If the vehicle data DT2 meets the user's need in accordance with the user data DTI, then the DV server 1 generates a vehicle sharing recommendation DT3. This recommendation DT3 identifies the vehicle 2 as a sharing candidate to carry out the trip 10. In other words, it designates the vehicle 2 as a possible transport mode solution that can be shared to carry out the trip 10 in accordance with the user's travel need URL.

[0068] In a fifth operation, the server DV1 sends the client terminal T1 the vehicle sharing recommendation DT3. In response to this sending, the terminal T1 can thus restore the DT3 recommendation to the UR1 user, for example by display and / or audio playback.

[0069] The PG2 application can thus allow the user to accept or decline the sharing recommendation DT3 and, in response to an acceptance from the user UR1, send a sharing request to the server DV1 to request to carry out the movement 10 according to the sharing recommendation DT3.

[0070] The invention advantageously makes it possible to offer relevant vehicle sharing recommendations to the user UR1 who has a travel need, and this in an easy, dynamic and adaptive manner for the user according to the situation in which he finds himself. The invention makes it possible in particular to anticipate the travel needs of the user UR1 and to adapt the recommendations proposed over time according to the environment and the needs of the user. To do this, the invention takes into account user data, such as individual preferences, the location of the user and calendar data, in order to personalize the vehicle sharing experience 2. The invention makes it possible in particular to reactively overcome any public transport problems that the user is likely to encounter. Thanks to the invention, the user UR1 can thus quickly adapt his mode of travel to complete a journey.

[0071] According to an example, the fourth and fifth operations are carried out automatically by the server DV1 without a prior request from the user UR1 (or from his terminal T1). In other words, the server DV1 automatically generates, and automatically sends to the client terminal T1, the sharing recommendation DT3, independently of any vehicle sharing recommendation request. Thus, it is not necessary for the terminal T1 to send a vehicle sharing recommendation request for the server to generate and send the recommendation DT3 to the terminal T1. This generation and sending process can be carried out proactively (without prior request from the terminal T1), which advantageously makes it possible to anticipate the needs of the user UR1 and to offer him at the appropriate times suitable transport solutions based on a prediction of his travel needs at a given time.

[0072] According to a particular example, during the processing process, the server DV 1 detects, from the location data DTlb of the user UR1, that said user is positioned in an area associated with a public transport stop, for example in the area of a stop of the public transport 4 ([Fig. 1]). During the fourth operation, the vehicle sharing recommendation DT3 is then generated upon detection of a first event linked to the public transport 4. This first event can be of various natures depending on the case and can for example be a problem, an incident, a delay, an alert, or even an announcement from the operator of the public transport 4. The DV1 server can thus analyze the situation or context of the user UR1 at a current time and, if a problem related to public transport is detected while the user UR1 is waiting for, or will probably want to use, public transport, then the generation and sending of the DT3 recommendation are triggered. This DT3 recommendation can thus propose the use of vehicle sharing 2 as an alternative to public transport 4 to make the trip 10.

[0073] According to a particular example, once the fifth operation has been carried out, the server DV1 follows (or monitors, or analyzes in real time) the user data DTI received from the terminal T1 while the user UR1 is in the process of carrying out the trip 10 on board the vehicle 2. Upon detection of a second event indicating a problem (an alert, an incident, an accident, a delay, etc.) linked to the trip 10 in progress, the server DV 1 generates a new sharing recommendation from other vehicle data received by V2C communication from another vehicle (not shown) to propose an alternative solution to the user's travel need. The DV1 server can thus send this new sharing recommendation to the TL client terminal. Alternative solutions can thus be proposed to the UR1 user proactively and appropriately to overcome public transport problems that the UR1 user is likely to face.

[0074] [Fig.2] schematically illustrates a DV1 processing device configured for allow the sharing of a vehicle, according to a particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0075] The processing device DV 1 is for example configured for implementing the operations of the control process as previously described with regard to [Fig. 1] and / or the steps of the method described below with regard to [Fig. 3]. Examples of such a control device 10 include, but are not limited to, a server or a group of servers.

[0076] The processing device DV1 comprises one (or more) processor(s) 40 configured to execute instructions for carrying out the steps of the processing method (or process) and / or for executing the instructions of the software(s) embedded in the processing device DV1. The processor 40 may include integrated memory, an input / output interface, and various circuits known to those skilled in the art. The control device 10 further comprises at least one memory 41 corresponding for example to a volatile and / or non-volatile memory and / or comprises a memory storage device which may comprise volatile and / or non-volatile memory, such as EEPROM, ROM, PROM, RAM, DRAM, SRAM, flash, magnetic or optical disk.

[0077] The computer code of the embedded software(s) comprising the instructions to loaded and executed by the processor 40 is for example stored on the memory 41. The memory 41 can constitute an information medium according to a particular embodiment in that it comprises a computer program (for example PG1 in [Fig.l]) comprising instructions for carrying out the steps of the processing method (or process) of the invention.

[0078] According to various particular and non-limiting embodiments, the processing device DV1 comprises communication means for cooperating with external devices, such as the client terminal T1 and the on-board device DV2 ([Fig.l]). The on-board device DV2 is for example a computer or a TCU (from the English “Telematic Control Unit” or in French “Telematic Control Unit”).

[0079] For this purpose, the processing device DV 1 may comprise a block 42 of interface elements to enable communication with external devices, such as the client terminal T1 and on-board device DV2 ([Fig.l]).

[0080] [Fig. 3] illustrates a diagram of the different steps of a processing method for sharing a vehicle, for example vehicle 2 as previously described. The method is for example implemented by the processing device DV1 cooperating with the client terminal T1 and the vehicle 2 as previously described ([Fig. 1]).

[0081] In a first step 51, user data DTI are received from a client terminal T1, these user data DTI comprising calendar data DT1a of a user UR1, location data DT1b of the user UR1 and preference data DT1e indicating travel preferences of the user URL.

[0082] In a second step 52, a need for movement of the user UR1 to carry out a movement 10 is detected from the user data DTI.

[0083] In a third step 53, vehicle data DT2 are received from the vehicle 2 via a vehicle-to-Cloud L1 communication, called V2C. This vehicle data DT2 comprises location data DT2a of the vehicle 2 and capacity data DT2b indicating a reception capacity of the vehicle 2.

[0084] In a fourth step 54, if the vehicle data DT2 satisfy the user's need in accordance with the user data DTI, a vehicle sharing recommendation DT3 is generated, this recommendation identifying the vehicle 2 as a candidate for sharing to carry out said trip 10. For this purpose, the recommendation DT3 may comprise an identifier of the vehicle 2, or even, where appropriate, other relevant information associated with the vehicle 2 and its sharing.

[0085] In a fifth step 55, the vehicle sharing recommendation DT3 is sent to the client terminal Tl.

[0086] According to alternative embodiments, the variants and examples of the operations described above in relation to figures 1-2 apply to the steps of the processing method of [Fig.3].

In particular, a person skilled in the art may envisage any adaptation or combination of the embodiments and variants described above, in order to meet a particular need.

[0088] The present invention is therefore not limited to the embodiments described above but extends in particular to a treatment method which would include secondary steps without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention. The same would apply to a device configured for the implementation of such a method.

[0089] The present invention also relates to a processing system, the processing device DV1 and the on-board device DV2, or even more broadly also the vehicle 2, as shown in [Fig.l].
