Abstract

The invention relates to a method for generating an alert in a vehicle, the vehicle comprising a toll payment device associated with an electronic toll collection service. Due to a determination (200) that a toll plaza is located on a route of the vehicle, the method comprises determining (201; 202) at least one state of the electronic toll collection service, the at least one state indicating whether the electronic toll collection service is available or unavailable to a user of the vehicle. If the at least one state indicates that the electronic toll collection service is unavailable, the method comprises generating (204) an alert in the vehicle indicating that the electronic toll collection service is unavailable. Alert generation module (101) in a vehicle (100) comprising a remote payment unit (102) associated with an electronic toll collection service, the generation module comprising a processor (301) configured to: - determine that a toll plaza is located on a vehicle's route; - following the determination that the toll is located on the vehicle's route, determine at least one status of the electronic toll service, at least one status indicating whether the electronic toll service is available or unavailable to a vehicle user; - generate an alert in the vehicle indicating that the toll service is unavailable, if at least one status indicates that the toll service is unavailable.
