08 11 24 The present invention relates to a removable overshoe for footwear, and more particularly an overshoe for use with studded or cleated athletic footwear, as well as to a kit comprising one or more overshoes and an aperture forming device configured to perforate a portion of the overshoe to accommodate one or cleats or studs. Background A sole of a footwear article, such as a shoe or boot, is generally provided with a textured portion to provide grip and prevent a wearer from slipping when walking or running. Such portions may be of particular importance in athletic footwear such as trainers and sports footwear. In some circumstance, cleats (for example studs and / or blades) or spikes may be provided on the sole of a shoe, such as on athletic footwear including football boots and the like. Such protrusions on the sole portion of athletic shoes improve the overall grip of the shoe, especially when in contact with soft and / or deformable ground, such as muddy pitches, sand or the like. For example, football and rugby boots may have studs and blades as cleat protrusions that aid the grip of the user on soft, muddy ground. Golfing shoes may have studs or spiked protrusions that aid in the grip on muddy and wet courses. Likewise, running shoes can comprise spikes on the shoe to aid the shoe’s grip with the ground. Existing overshoes, such as those found in EP 1462020, are known and may provide a means for covering cleated or studded shoes, such as football boots. Such overshoes have large open portions on the sole portions of the cover to allow studs to project from the overshoe, with each open portion configured to accommodate several protrusions. As such, these overshoes do not prevent the build-up of mud and debris between neighbouring protrusions, and thus do not assist in maintaining the ability of the protrusions to grip a ground surface and / or for efficient cleaning and removal of mud and debris from the footwear after use. Further, such covers comprise fasteners, such as a zip-fastener, hook-and-loop (Velcro), press studs, laces or other connection elements to releasably secure the cover to the shoe during use. Such fasteners are liable to become dislodged, undone or otherwise loosened during active use, such as during tackles and the like. In addition, the fastener means itself may provide a safety hazard during player contact, with fastener components, such as zips becoming entangled with or abrading articles of a colliding player such as laces, fabric, skin and the like. Where overshoes are configured to be worn over shoes with sole protrusions, overshoes may provide large expanses of open sections across the sole portion. Such overshoes are suitable for use only with athletic footwear in which any protrusions (studs) may be removed, wherein the fitting and removal of the overshoe requires the studs to be removed. It is also known to provide brushes, bootclaws and / or other tools which may be used to physically remove mud from the shoes. However, such tools do not prevent mud from initially clumping between the studs, thereby inhibiting grip; they do not protect the shoe; and they cannot clean mud from porous shoe materials. It would be beneficial to provide a means of preventing mud from sticking to footwear during the wearing of said footwear, particularly where such footwear comprises one or more protrusions extending from the sole, so as to maintain the ability of the protrusions to provide grip. In addition, it would be beneficial to provide a means for easily and quickly removing mud and debris from such footwear. Description of the Invention According to a first aspect of the invention, a removable overshoe for footwear is provided. The overshoe comprises a sole portion and an upper portion, wherein the sole portion is configured to extend from a toe-end to a heel of a footwear article, comprises one or more apertures, and comprises a flexible, elastic material surrounding each of the one or more apertures. The upper portion is formed of a flexible, elastic material and comprises an expandable elastic opening, wherein said upper portion is affixed to the sole portion about the entire periphery of the sole portion, and is configured to form an expandable cavity. The upper portion may be fixed to the sole portion by any suitable means, including but not limited to by sewing, gluing, ultrasonic seam welding or the like The provision of the upper portion affixed about the entire periphery of the sole results in the upper portion existing about all sides of a footwear article housed therein. Thus, the upper 08 11 24 may envelop at least a portion of a toe-end, top surface, heel and two side surfaces of a footwear article. Accordingly, the overshoe may envelop the entirety of the sole of an inserted footwear article, save for any protrusions on the sole, and at least a portion of peripheral portion of the footwear article. Since mud and debris are in greatest contact with the sole of the shoe or any overshoe mounted thereupon, the cover is able to prevent mud and debris from contacting a surface of the shoe where it might be anticipated to most commonly occur. Optionally, the upper may comprise a single piece of material and extend from one side of the sole periphery to the other, so as to extend across the top surface of any footwear housed within. Alternatively, the upper portion may comprise two or more sections of material fixed together, such as by sewing, gluing, ultrasonic seam welding or the like. The overshoe upper may have a structure which extends across the entirety of the upper of a footwear article housed therein, or at least 50%, at least 60%, at least 70%, at least 80%, at least 90% or at least 95% thereof. That is, when in use, the overshoe may encompass the entirety of the footwear article, or a majority thereof, such as at least 50%, at least 60%, at least 70%, at least 80%, at least 90% or at least 95% of the external surface thereof is covered by the overshoe. In some embodiments, the overshoe may encompass the entirety of the footwear article it is to be worn with. For example, the overshoe may be configured to extend above a conventional footwear article such as a football boot, and the rest against the skin or a sock of the user on the lower leg or ankle region. Where the upper is formed of an elastic material, the surface area of the upper when not under tension may be less than the surface area of the footwear article and / or at least one length of the upper when not under tension may be less than the corresponding length of the footwear article. Thus, the envelopment of the sides and / or top surfaces of the footwear article may result in the application of a compressive force that grips the overshoe to the sides and / or top surfaces of the footwear article in use, which may prevent slippage of the overshoe relative to the shoe. Thus, a single overshoe may be sized and formed of a sufficiently elastic material to be mounted on and grip a selection of footwear articles of varying size and geometry and is not required to be sized and shaped for each individual design and size of footwear. Where the upper portion is configured to envelope a heel of the footwear, this can improve the overall grip of the footwear article by the overshoe, which in combination with the envelopment at the toe-end portion can provide a force that grips the shoe from toe-end to heel-end. The elastic material affords the upper portion to accommodate the size and shape of the heel by stretching and upon release, moulding to the shape of the heel, thereby aiding the overshoe to grip to the footwear and preventing the overshoe from slipping off the heel of the footwear. The expandable elastic opening present in the upper portion of the overshoe provides an opening for the footwear, such as a shoe or boot to enter, in a similar manner as a shoe or boot upper provides an opening for egress of a foot. Further, by forming the upper portion of a flexible, elastic material, the upper is enabled to provide a flexible and elastic opening, which may be stretched to accommodate the insertion of a shoe or boot. Once inserted the flexible, elastic material of the upper portion may exert a compressive force upon at least a portion of the surface of any footwear contained therein, enabling the overshoe to grip and conform to footwear. Thus, the overshoe may be releasably mountable on a footwear article without the need for any fastening means. 08 11 24 The ability to provide a removable overshoe for use with a footwear article wherein the removal overshoe does not require any fastening means to releasably secure the overshoe to the footwear article may provide a safer overshoe, particularly where the overshoe is to be used in contact sports such as football, rugby and the like. In particular, the absence fasteners such as, zips, hook and eye closures, laces, buttons, snap fasteners, press studs, clips, hooks, or variants thereof, removes the risk of the overshoes abrading or becoming entangled with a tackling player and or a portion of their apparel. In addition, the absence of such fasteners precludes the ability for the fasteners to become unfastened at an undesirable time which may result in a hazard. That is, unlike a fastener which may become undesirably unfastened during a tackle or other periods when the overshoe is in use, the compressive grip of the elastic material of the overshoe is maintained throughout the wearing of the overshoe. This prevents the forming of trip hazards for both the user and surrounding parties in the form of a partially or wholly dislodged overshoe or a portion thereof, such as a lace or the like, and maintains the overshoe in the desired location throughout its use. Each being formed of the same material; namely neoprene (RTM), which is flexible and elastic. Alternatively, other materials may be used. As shown in Figure 3, the upper portion (3) comprises two sub-parts (3a and 3b) which are joined along a seam line 5. The provision of multiple sub-parts of the upper portion enables a larger, and / or more highly domed cavity to be formed for the accommodation of the footwear article. The upper portion further comprises an elastic bridge (6) that connects a first sub-part (3a) to a second sub-part (3b) of the upper portion and provides additional material on this top portion of the overshoe, thereby further expanding the size of the footwear accommodating cavity as well as increasing the perimeter of the opening (7) through which the footwear article may enter the overshoe. 08 11 24 The use of neoprene (RTM), or another elastic material enables the cavity to be stretched and expanded to accommodate the footwear article (2), and to grip the mounted boot without the need for fastenings such as laces, a zipper, hook and loop tape, studs or the like. That is, the flexible, elastic neoprene (RTM) of the overshoe grips the surface of the football boot (2) due to the release of the elasticity of the neoprene (RTM) following the stretching over and mounting of the football boot. The laces of the football boot are protected and tucked away in the cavity of the overshoe. This may prevent the laces from becoming undone prematurely, such as during a sporting match, where they may present a trip hazard. The upper portion (3) is stitched to the sole portion (4) about the periphery (8) of the sole portion. This stitching extends about the entire periphery of the sole. Alternatively or in addition, it maybe envisaged that the sole any upper portions may be glued or otherwise affixed about this periphery by any suitable means. Where both glue and stitching is used, the join may be strengthened. Twelve apertures (9) are present in the sole (4) of the overshoe, and have a substantially triangular shape, consistent with the size and shape of the 12 triangular-prism shaped protrusions (studs) (10) of the football boot (2). In use the studs (10) protrude from the sole portion (4) of the overshoe where they may provide their intended function of gripping a ground surface such as a pitch or the like. To mount the overshoe on a footwear article, the user may grip the overshoe upper about the opening (7) and push their booted foot into this opening to expand the cavity. Where the boot comprises removable studs or cleats these can optional be removed or maintained affixed to the sole of the boot during fitting of the overshoe. As the boot enters the overshoe, the sole portion may be stretched and pulled away from the sole of the boot to allow any protrusions to traverse the inside of the overshoe until the boot is in a desired position within the shoe. At this point, it the user releases the sole of the overshoe, this will revert to contacting the sole of the boot under tension, which the protrusions aligning with the apertures. Where the 08 11 24 protrusions are tapered, the apertures may naturally align with any protrusions and the compressive force between the elastic portions of the upper and sole materials may pull the sole of portion of the overshoe to be flush with the sole of the boot, such that the protrusions extend through the apertures. Alternatively and / or in addition, the wearer may assist this placement by stretching the apertures about the one or more protrusions. Where a kit is provided according to the second aspect of the invention, the aperture forming device (11) may be used to form apertures (9) in an unperforated overshoe (17a). A pre-apertured overshoe (17a), as provided in the kit according to the second aspect of the invention, can be disposed between a first, cutting edge, portion (13) and second, receptor, portion (15) of the aperture forming device (11), such that when a compressive force is applied by a user between the first and second portions an aperture is cut. As shown in Figure 6, the cutting edge (13) is mounted opposite a corresponding receptor portion (15). However, alternative arrangements may also be provided. For example, the cut may be achieved by a shearing action to two opposing cutting edges. The external surface of the sole portion is preferably positioned such that when a punch die of the device is moved vertically towards the base plate, the punch die punctures the external surface of the overshoe through to the cavity on the internal surface of the overshoe. The punch die can thus be used to form an aperture in the sole of the overshoe. The punch device forms a circular aperture, having a smaller cross-sectional area than the stud (10), such that, in use the overshoe aperture may be stretched over the protruding stud (10) to provide a griping effect, thereby preventing the egress of dirt or debris through the aperture. The cutting edge (13) of the punch die is comprises a sharpened edge suitable for cutting. Any suitable material may be used, including but not limited to metals, plastics, and ceramics. The receptor portion (15) may comprise any suitable material, including plastic, metal or ceramic and may or may not be integrally formed with the main body of the puncture device 11. Optionally, the receptor portion (15) may comprise a deformable material such as natural 08 11 24 or synthetic rubber, foam or the like. Where a deformable material is used, this may be mounted on or inset into an distal portion (14) of the puncture device. The base plate is connected to a vertical support by way of a pivot (16). The pivot enables vertical movement and optionally circular motion around the vertical support such that the cutting surface (13) may be positioned about a desired portion of the overshoe and brought into a compressing contact to cut the sole portion. In an embodiment, the punch die and / or base plate can include articulated connections to a vertical support such that in use the positioning of the apertures can be carefully controlled. Accordingly, the punch die and base plate can be pivotably articulated to form a puncture device. To use the kit according to the second aspect of the invention, a user may mount an unpunched overshoe on a footwear article comprising sole protrusions, as shown in Figure 7. The presence of the protrusions may distort the flexible elastic sole material of the overshoe, providing raised portions (18a), which may be marked by the user, for example with chalk, ink, paint or the like, as depicted in Figure 8. Once marked, the overshoe is removed from the footwear article and punch device is positioned such that the cutting edge (13) is positioned above the marked sole (19) and the receptor portion (15) is positioned on the opposing side of the fabric. Compressive pressure is then applied by the user to arms (12a and 12b) at any position along these arms causing pivoting about hinge (16) until the cutting edge (13) is forced through the material and onto the receptor plate (15), thereby producing an aperture. The process is then repeated for each of the marked points on the sole. Although not depicted, a variety of different sized and / or shaped punches may be supplied, for example to additionally or alternatively punch elongated shapes to accommodate cleats, and / or spikes of different sizes. This may ensure that the aperture produced is always suitable smaller than the protrusion so as to be able to grip said protrusion, while still being of a suitable shape and size so as to be stretched about it. 08 11 24 Also envisaged, but not shown, is a corresponding punch die having more than one cutting edge. Such punch dies may match a particular stud and / or cleat layout of a footwear article to enable multiple apertures to be punched at once. While it may be preferable to provide apertures that are smaller than the corresponding protrusions, to maximise the grip of the overshoe to the footwear article and to minimise slippage, apertures may be provided that are of a different size and / or shape to the protrusion. As shown in Figure 10, an aperture may be larger than the corresponding protrusion. The provision of a larger aperture may make it easier and quicker to mount the overshoe. In addition, where overshoes are to be re-used with different footwear articles, such as being shared by a team, the provision of slightly larger apertures coupled with the elastic, flexible sole and upper may enable the overshoe to be compatible with a selection of footwear articles. By way of example only, some footwear suitable for use with the present invention will now be described. Footwear comprising protrusions (cleats) vary in the number of protrusions dependent on the intended use. For example, football boots typically comprise six protrusions substantially conical and can comprise additional protrusions of an alternative or the same shape. For example, some football boots can comprise 20 or more protrusions. For example, golf shoes typically comprise between 6 and 8 protrusions (spikes). For example, running shoes typically comprise between 3 and 8 protrusions (spikes or pins). Footwear comprising protrusions (cleats) are available in a plethora of different protrusion shapes. For example, football and rugby boots can comprise protrusions, often termed studs or blades, that are trapezoid prisms, conical, triangular prism, rhombohedron, or irregular shapes that are substantially shaped thereof. In such examples, the protrusions can also be a combination of different three-dimensional shapes. In another example, running shoes, climbing shoes, and golfing shoes can comprise protrusions, often termed spikes, that can be substantially pin shaped or substantially thin rectangular 08 11 24 It will be appreciated that any of the optional features of any of the embodiments described herein could also be provided with one or more of any of the other embodiments described herein. Waterproof is taken to mean an impedance to the transfer of water through a material. In the context of the present invention, it is not taken to mean a complete impervious barrier to water. It is understood that the degree of waterproofing is dependent on variable factors such as the thickness of the material. Punch dies are taken to mean a cutting tool used in punching work. The die is the shaped aspect that and the punch is a universal part that pushes the die to punch it through a material. Footwear protrusions are intended to be interpreted as cleats for footwear. These cleats are typically found on athletic shoes. They are typically designed for gripping to prevent the user losing their footing. As used herein any reference to “one embodiment” or “an embodiment” means that a particular element, feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment. The appearances of the phrase “in one embodiment” or the phrase “in an embodiment” in various places in the specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment. As used herein, the terms “comprises,” “comprising,” “includes,” “including,” “has,” “having” or any other variation thereof, are intended to cover a non-exclusive inclusion. Claims

20 06 251. A removable overshoe for a studded or cleated footwear article, comprising:a removable cover comprising a sole portion and an upper portion;said sole portion formed of a flexible, elastic material the sole portion comprising from 3 to 12 apertures, each aperture configured to grip a stud or cleat on the sole of the inserted studded or cleated footwear article;said sole portion configured to cover the sole of an inserted studded or cleated footwear article, from a toe-end to an heel-end, other than at a position of a stud or cleat extending through an aperture,said sole portion further comprising a flexible, elastic material surrounding each of the one or more apertures;said upper portion formed of a flexible, elastic material and comprising an expandable elastic opening;wherein said upper portion is affixed to the sole portion about the entire periphery of the sole portion and is configured to envelope at least a portion of a toe-end, top surface, heel and two side surfaces of a footwear article to form an expandable cavity for receiving the inserted studded or cleated article of footwear; andwherein the removable overshoe is removable from the inserted studded or cleated footwear article without release of a fastener.

The removable overshoe of claim 1 wherein the expandable elastic opening is configured to enable the overshoe to be removably mounted on the inserted studded or cleated footwear article, and wherein the elastic upper portion is configured to grip the inserted studded or cleated footwear article in use.

3. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim wherein the upper portion, the sole portion or both the upper and sole portions comprise at least one of a waterproof or fray resistant material.

4. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim wherein the thickness of the upper portion is between 0.5 mm and 5 mm thick.

5. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim wherein the thickness of the sole portion is between 0.5 mm and 3 mm thick.

6. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim, wherein the shapes of the apertures are selected from one or more of the group comprising: circular, oblong, rectangular, fin-shaped, triangular and quadrilateral, optionally wherein the cross-section of the aperture is tapered.

7. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim, wherein the sole portion comprises 6 apertures.

8. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim, wherein the upper portion comprises a padding material.

9. The removable overshoe of any preceding claim, wherein the upper portion and sole portion each comprise at least one of a different material or a different thickness of material.20 06 25
