Air duct for a refrigerator

Abstract

An air duct 102 for a refrigerator 152 having an enclosure 154 and a refrigeration system 160 with a fan for generating a cooling airflow A. The duct comprises an air inlet 104 receiving the cooling airflow, an air outlet 106 downstream of the air inlet directing the cooling airflow into the enclosure in a first direction C & D. A diverter 108 located between the inlet and the outlet diverts a portion of the cooling airflow into the enclosure in a second direction E different to the first direction. The first and second directions may be parallel to an upper surface of the enclosure and the second direction may be sideways or downwards relative to the first direction. The diverter may comprise plural openings defining a louvered vent 110 having a plurality of blades pointing in different directions (fig 4a) and direct the airflow in different directions. The duct may comprise a fan mounting plate 116 having two openings into which fans are mounted. Direct the airflow in different directions improves cooling distribution and provides even temperature throughout the enclosure.
