Abstract

A knee pad comprises straps A located on the top and bottom edges of a pad E, the straps being fastenable by hook and loop fastenings B, D, where the loop side of the fastening D is stitched in a manner which allows stitches to be unpicked and the strap to be trimmed without reducing the strength of the bind between the fastener and the strap; and where the strap is made of a material that will not fray when cut. The pad comprises (figure 6) an outer, thicker, harder layer E2, an inner thinner softer flexible layer E1, an outer rigid shell E3, and an outermost covering for the shell E4 that protects a floor on which a floor layer or other worker might be kneeling to prevent damage thereto. Preferably the fastener is stitched onto the strap using a grid pattern. The lower strap may be arranged to secure at the side of the calf (figure 3) so as not to interfere with the wearer.
