Abstract
Description
The present invention, hereinafter referred to as “Canister Cover,” reiates to canisters with an opening created by an integrated ring pull tab, and specifically to a feature designed to prevent contamination from external elements such as insects, dust, and potential tampering. Additionally, the invention incorporates a mechanism that facilitates the use of a straw while maintaining contamination prevention. This invention is particularly relevant to industries where maintaining the purity and safety of contents is paramount, such as the beverage, food, and healthcare industries. Traditional canisters with integrated ring pull tab openings typically feature an open-top design, leaving the contents exposed to external contaminants. Some prior art solutions include unattached plastic caps or lids, but these can often be insecure, easily dislodged, or misplaced, which increases the risk of contamination and environmental waste. The key issues with existing solutions include: Inadequate Protection: Many prior art designs do not provide sufficient protection against contamination from insects, dust, or tampering. Poor Fit: Caps and lids may not fit securely, leading to unwanted exposure to contaminants. Environmental Concerns: Unattached lids can contribute to environmental pollution, as they are easily lost or discarded. The Canister Cover addresses these issues by integrating a contamination prevention feature directly into the existing ring pull tab mechanism. Additionally, the invention incorporates a mechanism that facilitates the use of a straw, allowing users to drink from the canister without fully exposing the opening to potential contaminants. Key Features of the Invention: 1. Contamination Prevention Cover: The Canister Cover is designed to rotate relative to the canister and shield the canister’s opening from contamination after it has been opened. The cover provides a secure barrier against external elements such as insects, dust, and potential tampering, ensuring that the contents remain pure and safe. 2. Ring Pull Tab with Straw Accommodation Mechanism: The integrated ring pull tab includes a mechanism that facilitates the use of a straw, allowing a straw to be inserted into the canister through a specially shaped area while maintaining the contamination prevention function. The cover can remain in a partially sealed position, with the straw inserted, preventing exposure to contaminants. 3. Hinge Mechanism and Pivot: The ring pull tab includes a hinge mechanism or pivot, allowing the cover to be moved between an open position for access to the canister contents and a closed position for contamination prevention. The cover can also automatically reposition to the closed position when the tab returns to its resting position after the canister has been opened. 4. Locking Feature for Tamper Prevention: The Canister Cover indudes a locking feature that secures the cover in place when in the closed position, preventing accidental exposure to contaminants and minimizing the risk of tampering or spiking of the canister contents. Advantages Over Prior Art: Enhanced Protection: The Canister Cover offers superior protection against contamination from insects, dust, and tampering compared to prior art, while facilitating straw use in a secure manner. Straw Facilitation: The mechanism that facilitates the use of a straw allows users to drink without exposing the entire canister opening to the environment, maintaining contamination prevention during use. Secure Fit and Environmental Considerations: Unlike unattached caps or lids, the Canister Cover is permanently integrated into the ring pull tab, preventing it from being lost or discarded, thereby reducing environmental waste. ■ Automatic Repositioning: The cover automatically returns to the closed position when the ring pull tab is returned to its non-operational position, maintaining protection without additional effort. The canister has not been opened (B) by the integrated ring pull tab and contamination cover (A) does not need to be rotated to cover the opening. Figure 2: Bird’s eye view of the integrated ring pull tab and Canister Cover prevention cover showing a shape that facilitates a straw (C) Figure 3: Perspective view of the Canister Cover in the neutral position, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 4: Perspective view of the Canister Cover Modifications Modifications can be made to the Canister Cover without departing from the scope of the invention. For exampie, the size and shape of the cover can be adjusted to fit different canister designs, and additionai features, such as custom branding or decorative eiements, can be incorporated. The Canister Cover may incorporate an optional locking mechanism to secure the cover in place when in the closed position, ensuring additional protection against tampering and accidental exposure. In an alternative embodiment, the cover may remain in position without a locking mechanism, relying on friction, gravity, or other natural forces to maintain the closed position. Additionally, the size of the straw aperture can be adapted to accommodate various straw sizes or shapes. Furthermore, materials such as plastic, silicone, or metal can be used for the cover and the ring pull tab to optimize durability and environmental sustainability.
Claims
1. A canister with an integrated ring pull tab for opening and contamination prevention, the canister comprising:(a) a ring pull tab configured to rotate or move to open the canister; and(b) a contamination prevention cover operatively connected to the ring pull tab, wherein the ring pull tab is configured to move the cover into a closed position over the canister opening when the tab is in its non- operational position, thereby preventing contaminants from entering the canister.
2. The canister of claim 1, wherein the shaped area at the end of the ring pull tab includes a straw-sized aperture that allows a straw to pass through while the canister remains partially sealed or covered.
3. The canister of claim 1, wherein the contamination prevention cover is configured to seal or cover the canister opening while leaving the straw aperture exposed for straw insertion.
4. The canister of claim 1, wherein the ring pull tab comprises a flexible hinge that allows the shaped area to bend or move to accommodate different straw sizes while maintaining the ability to close the cover In a contamination-prevention position.
5. The canister of claim 1, wherein the ring pull tab comprises a hinge mechanism or pivot that moves the cover between an open position, allowing access to the canister contents, and a closed position, covering the canister opening.
6. The canister of claim 1, wherein the ring pull tab includes a locking feature that secures the cover In the closed position to prevent accidental contamination.
7. The canister of claim 1, wherein the ring pull tab is configured to automatically reposition the cover to the closed position when the tab is returned to its resting position after opening the canister.
