A blind fastening device

Abstract

A blind fastening device 13 for clamping a component to a support plate (27 fig 4A), the device comprises a slotted sleeve 20, an apertured sleeve plate16, fastener, threaded bolt, 14 with a tightening head 15, an apertured compression means (19 fig 3A), washer 38 positioned between the tightening head and the sleeve plate and a diverging sleeve expanding head 25 mounted on the end of the fastener. The expanding head is engageable with the end of the sleeve when the fastener is tightened to expand the end of the sleeve outwards into contact with one of the openings to anchor the sleeve. The entirety of the underside of the tightening head may contact the tightening head. The sleeve plate may have a recess 36 that is configured to receive the washer. The device may comprise a compression means that is located between the slotted sleeve and the sleeve plate, the compression means allows further tightening of the fastener reducing the distance between the sleeve and sleeve plate. When the compression means expands outwards it forms a seal between the sleeve plate and the component. The slotted sleeve and the sleeve plate may be provided as a unitary component. Figure 3B
