Abstract

A case positioned adjacent to a thumb turn lock 1503, which contains at least one sensor that detects when the thumb turn is locked or unlocked, with a control means in the casing that receives a trigger signal from the sensor and then communicates the status of the lock to an external network only when the signal is received. The sensors may be a magnetic sensor, such a reed switch, or a vibration sensor such as a microphone or accelerometer, and there may be a battery. The lock may have a latch, a cylindrical rod, and a barrel, where a magnet is on the underside of the rod. The transceiver may be configured to transmit and receive on multiple frequencies, such as 868MHz, 915MHz, 433MHz, 2.4GHz, or 5GHz. A visual indicator for status may be included, and it may comprise an LED. The casing may have front and back plates that snap together, and a plastic hood. A PCB may be between the two plates with the magnetic sensors mounted on it. The apparatus may also detect whether the door is open using reed switches. [Figure 12b]
