Abstract

This article relates to a type of percussion instrument called a tone tongue, which produces a continuous sound with changing pitch by rotating a mallet (a percussion stick with a head) on the inside of multiple tongue-shaped wooden parts called tongues, or by inserting marbles or other objects and rotating them. The design of this application is an article in which the tone tongue and mallet are integrated, with the mallet housed in the center of the tone tongue. In this article, multiple tongue parts, which resemble flower petals, are arranged at an angle to the base to resemble an opening flower bud, the handle is formed to resemble a flower stem, and the mallet is formed to resemble a pistil. In this way, the central part, which resembles a receptacle with multiple petal-shaped tongue parts arranged in a circle, is provided with a recess for storing the mallet (a recess about 5 mm deep that can accommodate the diameter of the handle of the mallet), and the mallet is removed from the main body of the article when playing. Because each petal-shaped tongue is made from a different type of wood, the tone of each tongue is arbitrarily and freely determined to be different.
