[0001] The following description relates generally to packaging housings, and more particularly to packaging housings for adhesive ostomy appliances. [Background technology]
[0002] Adhesive appliances such as barrier rings are packaged and stored in enclosures to maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the appliance. The barrier rings are made of materials that are inherently adhesive or tacky to some degree. A typical enclosure uses a molded clamshell or clamshell-like enclosure or package to secure and hold the appliance (barrier ring). The barrier ring has a release liner on one or both sides of the barrier ring that is a protective cover when the barrier ring is stored in the enclosure.
[0003] To use the barrier ring, the housing is opened, the barrier ring is removed from the housing, the release liner is removed, and the barrier ring is stretched or otherwise contoured to the desired shape.

[0006] In one aspect, a packaging housing for an ostomy appliance, such as an adhesive barrier ring, includes a body having a base and an upstanding sidewall integral and continuous with the base. The upstanding sidewall has a periphery opposite the base. The base and sidewall define a storage area for the barrier ring. The base and sidewall are formed from a first material.

The barrier ring 10 may be formed from a pressure sensitive adhesive, such as a flexible hydrocolloid material, which may include, for example, a ceramide. With reference to FIGS. 2-4, the barrier ring 10 may be packaged and stored within a packaging housing 18.
