Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a head-up display device. [Background technology]
[0002] Conventionally, for example, Patent Document 1 describes a head-up display device using a combiner. This head-up display device includes a light-emitting display means that generates information to be displayed as display light, and a combiner that is provided on the windshield surface of the vehicle and reflects the display light toward the driver inside the vehicle. This combiner is formed in a wedge shape in cross section and is disposed on the inside of the windshield surface so that the side closer to the light-emitting display means is thinner than the side farther from it. With this configuration, the head-up display device prevents a double image from being generated by overlapping between a display image projected by the display light reflected by the combiner and a display image projected by the display light reflected on the outer surface of the windshield. [0003] [Patent Document 1] JP 2005-156678 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0004] Incidentally, the head-up display device described in Patent Document 1 may, for example, accommodate a light-emitting display means in a housing, and emit display light from the light-emitting display means through an opening in the housing toward the windshield. In this case, the housing is provided with a transparent cover that closes the opening to prevent dust and the like from entering the inside of the housing through the opening. Since the transparent cover of the head-up display device has a thickness, there is a risk that the display light emitted from the light-emitting display means is reflected inside the transparent cover, and the reflected light is visually recognized as a double image.
[0005] Therefore, the present invention has been made in consideration of the above, and has an object to provide a head-up display device that can properly display a virtual image. [Means for solving the problem]
[0006] In order to solve the above-mentioned problems and achieve the object, a head-up display device according to the present invention includes a display unit that is provided in a vehicle and that displays a virtual image in a display area on a reflective member by reflecting display light emitted toward a light-transmittable reflective member toward an eye point side by the reflective member, a housing to which the display unit is attached and that has an opening that is provided opposite the reflective member and through which the display light traveling from the display unit toward the reflective member passes through the opening, a transparent cover that closes the opening and transmits the display light traveling toward the reflective member, and a display control unit that controls the display unit, the display unit being accommodated inside the housing, The display device has a display unit that is controlled by a display control unit and emits the display light, and the transparent cover is positioned at the opening so that the angle of incidence of the display light emitted by the display unit and incident on the transparent cover increases as the display light approaches the eye point, and the display area is divided into a first divided area and a second divided area that is different from the first divided area and is located vertically above the first divided area, and when the display control unit controls the display unit to display a design image displayed by the display light in the second divided area, it performs a blurring process that blurs at least the vertically upper side of the design image. Effect of the Invention
[0007] The head-up display device according to the present invention is arranged with a transparent cover so as to suppress reflection of external light toward the eye point, and due to this arrangement, double images tend to appear on the vertically upper side of the display area. The head-up display device performs blurring on the design image in the second divided area on the vertically upper side where double images tend to appear. This allows the head-up display device to suppress the image from being viewed as a double image. Furthermore, the head-up display device can display information that does not require high visibility, such as figures, in the second divided area where blurring is performed. This allows the head-up display device to realize display according to the visibility of the information while suppressing double images, and as a result, can properly display a virtual image. [0009] The form (embodiment) for carrying out the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. The present invention is not limited to the contents described in the following embodiment. Furthermore, the components described below include those that a person skilled in the art can easily imagine and those that are substantially the same. Furthermore, the configurations described below can be appropriately combined. Furthermore, various omissions, substitutions, or modifications of the configurations can be made without departing from the gist of the present invention.
[0010] A head-up display device 1 according to an embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings. The head-up display device 1 is provided in a vehicle, and displays a virtual image S in a display area E on the windshield W by reflecting display light L emitted toward a light-transmitting windshield W toward an eye point EP by the windshield W. Here, the eye point EP is a position assumed in advance as the position of the driver's D's eyes, or the actual position of the driver's D's eyes. The windshield W is an example of a reflecting member, and is a member formed into a plate shape by transparent glass. The windshield W is provided in front of the driver's seat where the driver D sits, and blocks wind. The head-up display device 1 is an AR-HUD device that makes the virtual image S follow an object OJ (for example, a person, a sign, another vehicle, etc.) in front of the vehicle, and displays the virtual image S superimposed on the object OJ. The head-up display device 1 will be described in detail below.
[0011] The head-up display device 1 includes a housing 10, a transparent cover 20, and a display unit 30, as shown in FIG.
[0012] The housing 10 is provided on an instrument panel M of a vehicle, and has the display unit 30 attached thereto. The housing 10 is formed in a box shape, and houses the display unit 30 inside the housing 10. The housing 10 has an opening 11 that communicates between the inside and the outside. The opening 11 is provided opposite the windshield W, and is a portion that allows light to pass through. The housing 10 allows the display light L traveling from the display unit 30 toward the windshield W to pass through the opening 21.
[0013] The transparent cover 20 closes the opening 11 of the housing 10, and prevents dust and the like from entering the inside of the housing 10. The transparent cover 20 is formed in a curved plate shape made of transparent resin, and is formed in a curved shape toward the inside of the housing 10, for example. The transparent cover 20 transmits the display light L from the display unit 30 toward the windshield W while closing the opening 11. Here, the transparent cover 20 is arranged in the opening 11 in a positional relationship that suppresses reflection of external light (sunlight) toward the eye point EP. For example, as shown in FIG. 2, the transparent cover 20 is arranged in the opening 11 so that the incident angle θ of the display light L, which is emitted by the display device 31 and enters the inner surface of the transparent cover 20, increases as the display light L approaches the eye point EP. In other words, the incident angle θ of the display light L, which is entered into the inner surface of the transparent cover 20, increases as the display light L approaches the eye point EP.
[0014] The display unit 30 displays a virtual image S in a display area E on the windshield W. The display unit 30 has a display 31, a magnifying mirror 32, and a display control unit 33. The display control unit 33 may be provided in the display unit 30 itself, or may be provided outside the housing 10, for example.
[0015] The display 31 is housed inside the housing 10 and emits display light L. The display 31 includes a liquid crystal panel and a backlight. The liquid crystal panel is, for example, a TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) and forms a design image P (see FIG. 3) that represents a desired design (for example, a design related to a vehicle, such as a speed, a mark, a symbol, or a figure). The backlight irradiates light onto the back of the liquid crystal panel and is, for example, composed of a plurality of LEDs (light-emitting diodes). The display 31 is connected to a display control unit 33 and operates the liquid crystal panel and the backlight based on a control signal output from the display control unit 33. For example, the display 31 forms the design image P on the liquid crystal panel based on a control signal output from the display control unit 33, and emits display light L (light for displaying the design image P) from the liquid crystal panel toward the magnifying mirror 32 by irradiating the liquid crystal panel with light from the backlight.
[0016] The magnifying mirror 32 totally reflects light and is housed inside the housing 10. The magnifying mirror 32 has a reflective surface formed to be concave and aspherical. The reflective surface is disposed opposite the display 31 and also opposite the windshield W. The magnifying mirror 32 magnifies the display light L (design image P) emitted from the display 31 by the reflective surface, and reflects the magnified display light L toward the windshield W via the transparent cover 20 provided in the opening 11 of the housing 10.
[0017] The display control unit 33 controls the display 31. The display control unit 33 outputs a control signal to the display 31 to operate the liquid crystal panel and backlight of the display 31. For example, the display control unit 33 outputs a control signal to the display 31 to form a design image P on the liquid crystal panel, irradiates light from the backlight onto the liquid crystal panel on which the design image P is formed, and emits display light L toward the windshield W through the liquid crystal panel.
[0018] Here, the display light L reflected by the magnifying mirror 32 is transmitted through the transparent cover 20 and reflected by the windshield W toward the eye point EP. In this case, the display light L includes, for example, regular light L1 that is transmitted without being reflected inside the transparent cover 20 and irregular light L2 that is transmitted after being reflected inside the transparent cover 20, as shown in Fig. 2. The irregular light L2 is light that is visually recognized as a double image when the display light L emitted from the display 31 is reflected inside the transparent cover 20 due to the thickness of the transparent cover 20, and the reflected display light L reaches the eye point EP shifted from the regular light L1.
[0019] As described above, the transparent cover 20 is disposed in the opening 11 in a positional relationship that suppresses reflection of external light (sunlight) toward the eye point EP. Specifically, the transparent cover 20 is disposed in the opening 11 so that the incidence angle θ of the display light L on the inner surface of the transparent cover 20 increases as the non-normal light L2 incident on the inner surface of the transparent cover 20 approaches the eye point EP. That is, the incidence angle θ of the non-normal light L2 on the inner surface of the transparent cover 20 increases as the non-normal light L2 approaches the eye point EP, and as the incidence angle θ increases, the reflectance increases, which reduces the drop in luminance (reduces attenuation of light), making it easier to view as a double image. In other words, when the incidence angle θ of the non-normal light L2 is relatively large, that is, when the design image P (virtual image S) is located on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the display area E on the windshield W, the non-normal light L2 is easier to view as a double image. On the other hand, when the incident angle θ of the non-normal light L2 is relatively small, that is, when the design image P (virtual image S) is located on the lower side of the vertical direction Z in the display area E on the windshield W, the non-normal light L2 is less likely to be viewed as a double image. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the design image P2b displayed by the non-normal light L2 appears more prominently as a double image in the design image P2b displayed on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the display area E than in the design image P2b displayed on the lower side of the vertical direction Z in the display area E. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing a display example of a double image according to a comparative example. Note that the design image P2a shown in FIG. 4 is an image displayed by the normal light L1. When the design image P (virtual image S) is located on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the display area E, the design image P is more likely to be viewed as a double image, so the display control unit 33 performs a blurring process, which is a process of blurring the design image P. On the other hand, when the design image P (virtual image S) is located on the lower side in the vertical direction Z within the display area E, the design image P (virtual image S) is unlikely to be visually recognized as a double image, so the display control unit 33 does not perform the blurring process.
[0020] The display area E is divided into an area where blurring processing is performed and an area where blurring processing is not performed. The display area E is formed in a rectangular shape, for example, as shown in FIG. 3. The rectangular display area E is divided into two along the vehicle width direction Y along the vehicle width of the vehicle, for example, into a lower divided area E1 as a first divided area and an upper divided area E2 as a second divided area. That is, the rectangular display area E is divided into two by a division line along the vehicle width direction Y, and the lower divided area E1 is provided below the vertical direction Z perpendicular to the vehicle width direction Y, and the upper divided area E2 is provided above the vertical direction Z.
[0021] The lower divided region E1 is an area where no blurring process is performed. The lower divided region E1 is formed in a rectangular shape and is an area on the lower side of the vertical direction Z in the display region E. The lower divided region E1 is formed smaller than the upper divided region E2. Specifically, the lower divided region E1 is formed such that the length of the lower divided region E1 in the vehicle width direction Y is the same as the length of the upper divided region E2, and the length of the lower divided region E1 in the vertical direction Z is shorter than that of the upper divided region E2. The lower divided region E1 displays a design image P1 to which a blurring process, which will be described later, has not been performed.
[0022] The upper divided region E2 is an area where blurring processing is performed. The upper divided region E2 is formed in a rectangular shape, is an area different from the lower divided region E1 in the display area E, and is an area provided above the lower divided region E1 in the vertical direction Z. The upper divided region E2 is formed larger than the lower divided region E1. Specifically, the upper divided region E2 is formed such that the length of the upper divided region E2 in the vehicle width direction Y is the same as the length of the lower divided region E1, and the length of the upper divided region E2 in the vertical direction Z is longer than the lower divided region E1. The design image P2 to which blurring processing has been performed is displayed in the upper divided region E2.
[0023] When the design image P2 displayed by the display light L is displayed in the upper divided area E2, the display control unit 33 performs blurring to display at least the upper side of the design image P2 in the vertical direction Z, since the design image P2 is easily viewed as a double image as described above. For example, as shown in Fig. 5, the display control unit 33 forms a blurred area P21b (P22b) on the contour of the elliptical design image P2. Specifically, when the total number of pixels of the design image P2 is 100 pixels, the display control unit 33 does not perform blurring on the central area P21a (central 80 pixels) of the design image P2, and forms a blurred area P21b (P22b) in which the brightness and RGB values are gradually reduced from the central area P21a to the contour to form a gradation (light and dark). At this time, the display control unit 33 increases the proportion of the blurred area 22b in the design image P22 displayed on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the upper divided area E2, compared to the proportion of the blurred area 21b in the design image P21 displayed on the lower side of the vertical direction Z in the upper divided area E2, as shown in Fig. 6. In this way, when the design image P22 is displayed on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the upper divided area E2, the double image appears more prominently, so the display control unit 13 further suppresses the double image from being viewed by relatively increasing the proportion of the blurred area P22b in the design image P22 in this case. When the display control unit 33 displays the design image P2 after the blurring process in the upper divided area E2, the design image P2 is made to follow the object OJ (e.g., a vehicle ahead) in front of the vehicle included in the upper divided area E2, and the design image P2 is displayed superimposed on the object OJ.
[0024] When the display control unit 33 displays the design image P1 displayed by the display light L in the lower divided area E1, the display control unit 33 does not perform blurring because the design image P1 is difficult to be viewed as a double image as described above. When the display control unit 33 displays the design image P1 representing the speed (100 km / h) in the lower divided area E1 as shown in Fig. 6, the display control unit 33 does not perform blurring because the design image P1 is difficult to be viewed as a double image as described above. When the display control unit 33 displays the design image P1 in the lower divided area E1, the design image P1 is superimposed on the object OJ in front of the vehicle included in the lower divided area E1 without following the design image P1.
[0025] Next, an operation example of the head-up display device 1 will be described with reference to FIG. 7. As shown in FIG. 7, the head-up display device 1 performs blurring processing according to the display position of the design image P2 (step S1). For example, when the display control unit 33 displays the design image P22 on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the upper divided area E2, the display control unit 33 sets a larger ratio of the blurred area 22b in the design image P22 than when the design image P21 is displayed on the lower side of the vertical direction Z in the upper divided area E2. Next, the display control unit 33 displays the design image P1 without blurring processing on the lower divided area E1, and displays the design image P2 with blurring processing on the upper divided area E2 (step S2). In this case, when the display control unit 33 displays the design image P2 after the blurring processing on the upper divided area E2, the display control unit 33 makes the design image P2 follow the object OJ (e.g., a vehicle ahead) in front of the vehicle included in the upper divided area E2, and displays it superimposed on the object OJ. On the other hand, when the display control unit 33 displays the design image P1 without performing blurring processing in the lower divided area E1, the design image P1 is superimposed on the object OJ in front of the vehicle which is included in the lower divided area E1 without having the design image P1 follow it.
[0026] As described above, the head-up display device 1 according to the embodiment includes the display unit 30, the housing 10, and the transparent cover 20. The display unit 30 is provided in a vehicle, and reflects the display light L emitted toward the light-transmitting windshield W toward the eye point EP by the windshield W, thereby displaying a virtual image S in a display area E on the windshield W. The display unit 30 is assembled in the housing 10, and the housing 10 has an opening 11 provided opposite the windshield W, and the display light L from the display unit 30 toward the windshield W passes through the opening 11. The transparent cover 20 closes the opening 11 of the housing 10, and transmits the display light L toward the windshield W. The display unit 30 includes a display 31 that is accommodated inside the housing 10 and emits the display light L, and a display control unit 33 that controls the display 31. The transparent cover 20 is disposed in the opening 11 so that the angle of incidence θ of the display light L emitted by the display 31 and incident on the transparent cover 20 increases as the display light L approaches the eye point EP. The display area E is divided into a lower divided area E1 and an upper divided area E2 that is different from the lower divided area E1 and is provided above the lower divided area E1 in the vertical direction Z. When the display control unit 33 controls the display 31 to display the design image P2 displayed by the display light L in the upper divided area E2, the display control unit 33 performs a blurring process to blur at least the upper side of the design image P2 in the vertical direction Z, and when the display control unit 33 controls the display 31 to display the design image P1 in the lower divided area E1, the display control unit 33 does not perform the blurring process.
[0027] The head-up display device 1 is arranged with the transparent cover 20 so as to suppress reflection of external light toward the eye point EP, and due to this arrangement, double images are likely to appear on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the display area E. The head-up display device 1 does not perform blurring on the design image P1 in the lower divided area E1 below the vertical direction Z where double images are unlikely to appear, and performs blurring on the design image P2 in the upper divided area E2 above the vertical direction Z where double images are likely to appear. This allows the head-up display device 1 to suppress double images from being viewed. In addition, the head-up display device 1 can display information that requires high visibility, such as letters and numbers, in the lower divided area E1 where blurring is not performed, while displaying information that does not require relatively high visibility, such as figures, in the upper divided area E2 where blurring is performed. This allows the head-up display device 1 to realize display according to the visibility of information while suppressing double images. Moreover, the head-up display device 1 can reduce manufacturing costs compared to conventional double image countermeasures that use an anti-reflection film or anti-reflection coating on the transparent cover 20. As a result, the head-up display device 1 according to this embodiment can properly display the virtual image S.
[0028] In the head-up display device 1, when performing blurring processing, the display control unit 33 increases the proportion of the blurred area P22b in the design image P22 displayed on the upper side of the upper divided region E2 in the vertical direction Z, compared with the proportion of the blurred area P21b in the design image P21 displayed on the lower side of the upper divided region E2 in the vertical direction Z. As a result, the head-up display device 1 can further suppress the double image from being viewed by increasing the proportion of the blurred area 22b in the design image P22 in the upper side of the upper divided region E2, where the double image appears more prominently, than in the lower side of the upper divided region E2.
[0029] In the above-mentioned head-up display device 1, when the display control unit 33 performs blurring processing, it forms a blurring area P21b (P22b) on the contour of the design image P2, so that blurring processing can be performed on the portion of the design image P2 including the upper side of the vertical direction Z, where double images are likely to appear.
[0030] In the above head-up display device 1, when the display control unit 33 displays the design image P1 in the lower divided area E1, the display control unit 33 superimposes the design image P1 without making the design image P1 follow the object OJ in front of the vehicle included in the lower divided area E1, and when the design image P2 is displayed in the upper divided area E2, the display control unit 33 makes the design image P2 follow the object OJ in front of the vehicle included in the upper divided area E2, and superimposes the design image P2 on the object OJ. As a result, the head-up display device 1 can display information that requires high visibility, such as letters and numbers, in the lower divided area E1 where no blurring is performed without making the design image P2 follow the object OJ, while displaying information that does not require relatively high visibility, such as figures, in the upper divided area E2 where blurring is performed by making the design image P2 follow the object OJ.
[0031] The head-up display device 1 according to the embodiment of the present invention described above is not limited to the above embodiment, and various modifications are possible within the scope of the claims.
[0032] For example, the display control unit 33 may provide more blurred regions P21b (P22b) in the upper region of the vertical direction Z of the elliptical design image P2 than in the lower region of the vertical direction Z, as shown in Fig. 8. Specifically, when the number of pixels in the vertical direction Z of the design image P2 is 100 pixels, the display control unit 33 does not perform blurring processing on 80 pixels from the lower end to the upper end of the vertical direction Z of the design image P2, and forms a blurred region P21b (P22b) in which gradation (light and dark) is formed by gradually decreasing the brightness and RGB values from the lower end to the upper end of 81 pixels to 100 pixels from the lower end to the upper end of the vertical direction Z of the design image P2. 9. In this way, when the design image P22 is displayed on the upper side of the vertical direction Z in the upper divided area E2, the double image appears more conspicuously, so that the display control unit 13 relatively increases the proportion of the blurred area P22b in the design image P22 in this case, thereby further suppressing the double image from being viewed.
[0033] In the above explanation, the head-up display device 1 is an AR-HUD device that makes the design image P2 follow the object OJ in front of the vehicle and superimposes it on the object OJ. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and may be, for example, a HUD device that superimposes the design image P2 on the object OJ in front of the vehicle without making the design image P2 follow the object OJ.
[0034] The head-up display device 1 has been described as performing a blurring process to blur at least the upper side of the design image P2 in the vertical direction Z, such as a process of blurring the contours of the design image P2 and a process of making the blurred area larger on the upper side of the design image P2 than on the lower side, but this is not limited to this and other blurring processes may also be used.
[0035] The head-up display device 1 has been described as an example in which the proportion of the blurred area P22b in the design image P22 displayed at the top of the upper divided area E2 is greater than the proportion of the blurred area P21b in the design image P21 displayed at the bottom of the upper divided area E2, but this is not limited to this, and for example, the proportion of the blurred area in the design image P22 in the upper divided area E2 may be the same.
[0036] Although an example in which the reflective member is the windshield W has been described, the reflective member is not limited thereto and may be, for example, a combiner. The combiner is, for example, a reflective member formed of a half mirror, and is provided on the instrument panel M. The combiner transmits light incident from the rear side and reflects light incident from the front side (display light L emitted from the display unit 30).
[0037] In the above description, the lower divided region (first divided region) E1 is described as a region in which blurring processing is not performed, but this is not limited thereto. That is, in the above description, the display control unit 33 is described as not performing blurring processing when displaying the design image P1 displayed by the display light L in the lower divided region E1, but this is not limited thereto, and various known blurring-related processes such as anti-aliasing may be performed.
