Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a fungicidal combination for controlling fungal diseases. The present disclosure also relates to a fungicidal composition comprising said fungicidal combination, and to a method for controlling fungal diseases by applying said fungicidal composition. [Background technology]
[0002] Fungicides are a type of insecticide that are useful in controlling the growth of undesirable fungi and their spores. Profitable crop production depends on effective pest control. Fungicides are an essential and important tool used by farmers to effectively control fungi in order to increase crop yield and quality. The activity of fungicides can be enhanced in various ways to achieve maximum benefit. One way to enhance fungicide activity is to use combinations of fungicides. However, the effectiveness of a particular combination depends on the type of fungus (pest) to be controlled and the type of plant affected by that pest. For example, different pests affect different crops and respond differently to fungicides. Also, the susceptibility of the crops varies depending on the type of fungicide used. As a result, it is difficult to determine the necessary and appropriate fungicide combination, the application rate of the fungicide compositions that make up the fungicide combination, and the ratio of each fungicide in the combination to achieve effective control of fungal diseases and improve crop yield and quality.
[0003] There are many types of fungicides, including multi-site and systemic fungicides. However, as crop resistance decreases, use rates are low and fungal resistance is increasingly seen. Alternative treatment methods with broader disease control, treatment and prevention capabilities, and lower dosage requirements are also needed. Therefore, it is necessary to use fungicide combinations that can overcome one or more of the aforementioned problems.

[0007] It is yet another object of the present disclosure to provide a germicidal combination that has improved effectiveness over the individual germicidal agents.
[0008] Yet another object of the present disclosure is to provide a fungicidal combination that provides increased yields in crops to which it is applied.

[0251] All of the features described in this specification can be combined with any of the above aspects in any combination.
[0252] According to an embodiment, it has been found that a certain weight ratio of the quinoline fungicide and the anilinopyrimidine fungicide can produce a synergistic effect. Thus, a further aspect of the present disclosure is a composition in which the quinoline fungicide and the anilinopyrimidine fungicide are present in an amount that produces a synergistic effect. This synergistic effect is evident from the fact that the fungicidal effect of a composition that includes both a quinoline fungicide and an anilinopyrimidine fungicide is greater than the sum of the fungicidal effects of the quinoline fungicide and the anilinopyrimidine fungicide individually. The fungicidal effect of the combination can be seen from the following examples. Although the individual active compounds show lower activity in terms of fungicidal effect, certain combinations have a fungicidal effect that exceeds the expected efficacy. These combinations or compositions above can be used in synergistic amounts. From the following examples, it can be seen that the fungicidal action of the combination according to the present disclosure exceeds the calculated value, i.e., the fungicidal combination has a synergistic effect of suppressing the growth of fungal diseases in plants.
[0253] In yet another embodiment, whether a combination is synergistic is determined by comparing the observed efficacy of the bactericidal combination to the expected efficacy of the bactericidal combination, as calculated by the Colby formula.
[0254] In the Colby formula shown below, E is the expected efficacy of the quinoline and anilinopyrimidine fungicide combination, X is the observed efficacy of the quinoline fungicide, and Y is the observed efficacy of the anilinopyrimidine fungicide. The observed efficacy values (X and Y) are the percent disease control (e.g., percent reduction in fungal disease severity) of the quinoline and anilinopyrimidine fungicides used alone. If the observed efficacy of the quinoline and anilinopyrimidine fungicide combination is greater than the expected efficacy, the combination is deemed synergistic. If the observed efficacy is equal to or less than the expected efficacy, the combination is deemed not synergistic.
[0255] Colby's equation is E=X+Y-XY / 100.

[0292] Example 3 Experiments were conducted to evaluate the biological effectiveness of the fungicidal combination of ipflufenoquine and pyrimethanil against fungal infections affecting apple crops. Table 1 gives an overview of the target crops, the combinations of active ingredients tested, and the range of application rates of the combination.
[0293] [Table 3]
[0294] Table 2 provides an overview of the treatments tested for efficacy in preventing apple scab caused by the fungus Venturia inaequalis at harvest. The combinations were applied in three separate applications: (1) Tight Cluster Pink, (2) at bloom, and (3) at first cover spray. In treatment number 2, the individual active agents were tank mixed.
[0295] [Table 4]
[0296] Table 3 shows an overview of the percentage of leaf scab severity (caused by Venturia inaequalis) observed after treatment completion. The percentage of leaf scab severity was calculated based on the total number of affected leaves.
[0297] [Table 5]
[0298] Example 4 As shown in Table 4, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the fungicide combination of ipflufenoquine and pyrimethanil (tank mix) against brown rot disease (Monilinia fruticola) affecting peach crop.
[0299] [Table 6]
[0300] As shown in Table 5, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a fungicide combination (tank mix) of ipflufenoquine and pyrimethanil against Coryneum blight (Wilsonomyces sp.) affecting peach yield.
[0301] [Table 7]
[0302] Example 5 As shown in Table 6, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the fungicidal combination of ipflufenoquin and pyrimethanil (both tank mix and premix) against black scab disease (Cladosporium sp.) on pecan (i.e. nuts).
[0303] [Table 8]
[0304] Example 6 An experiment was conducted to determine whether a ratio of 1:6.7 ipflufenoquine + pyrimethanil would provide a higher level of control than the ratios 1:2.5 and 1:5. The study was conducted on apple scab (Venturia inaequalis). The results are shown in Table 7. Treatment A: 0.1 ipflufenoquine:0.25 pyrimethanil μg / ml ai (ratio 1:2.5) Treatment B: 0.1 ipflufenoquine:0.5 pyrimethanil μg / ml ai (ratio 1:5) Treatment C: 0.1 ipflufenoquine:0.667 pyrimethanil μg / ml ai (ratio 1:6.7)
[0305] [Table 9]
[0306] It was observed that when the ratio of ipflufenoquine + pyrimethanil was 1:6.7, the disease growth rate was better inhibited compared to the ratios of 1:2.5 and 1:5. The lower rate of disease progression as revealed by the treatment indicates a higher level of inhibition. This was observed at the ratio of 1:6.7.
[0307] Example 7 Experiments were conducted to confirm the synergistic effect of the combination of ipflufenoquine and pyrimethanil. Significant growth inhibition was observed when the concentrations of the two fungicides were both below the minimum effective concentration (MEC). Ten of the 14 isolates tested showed evidence of synergistic effect of the combination, as shown in Table 8.
