[0031]

[0072] Multi-Cable Transit

[0032]

[0073] 1-4, in an embodiment of the subject matter of the present disclosure, a cable transit 100 may comprise a multi-cable transit 101 comprising a frame assembly 102, a plurality of modules 200 disposed within the frame assembly 102, and a compression wedge unit 300 disposed between the plurality of modules 200 and the assembly of the frame assembly 102. Expansion of the compression wedge unit 300 compresses the plurality of modules 200 between the compression wedge unit 300 and the frame assembly 102, thereby creating an airtight seal between the compression wedge unit 300, the plurality of modules 200, the frame assembly 102, and a cylindrical object disposed within the one or more modules 200. The cylindrical object may include a core. An array 202 of a plurality of modules 200 includes rows 204 and columns 206 of modules 200, where a stay plate 400 is removably attached between each row 204 of the plurality of modules 200 to provide stability and restraint to the modules 200 within the frame assembly 102. Depending on the exterior dimensions of the modules 200 and the interior dimensions of the frame assembly 102, the array 202 can include a variety of combinations of rows 204 and columns 206 depending on the application.

[0033]

[0074] 5, the frame assembly 102 comprises: a top wall 108; a bottom wall 110; and two side walls 112a, 112b. The two side walls 112a, 112b are disposed generally perpendicular to the top wall 108 and the bottom wall 110, thereby creating a first window 124. The first window 124 has a peripheral edge 126. The frame assembly 102 further comprises a flange 104 connected to the top wall (108), the bottom wall (110), and the two side walls (112a and 112b) near the peripheral edge 126. The flange 104 extends perpendicularly outwardly away from the top wall (108), the bottom wall (110), and the two side walls (112a and 112b). The flange 104 includes a front surface 128 and a rear surface 130 (see FIG. 3 ), where both the front surface 128 and the rear surface 130 are generally planar. The flange 104 includes a plurality of holes 106 disposed through the front surface 128 and the rear surface 130. The flange 104 is configured to secure the frame assembly 102 to a mounting surface (not shown) using mechanical fasteners, such as bolts secured through the plurality of holes 106. In an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the top wall (108), the bottom wall (110), and the two side walls (112a and 112b) extend beyond the front surface 128 of the flange 104 to form a forward peripheral edge 116. The flange 104 provides a surface contact with a mounting surface, such as, for example, a wall, deck, ceiling, floor, partition, cabinet, or the like, with or without a planar compression gasket 114.

[0034]

[0075] The frame assembly 102 may be constructed of rigid, non-metallic materials that are UV resistant; hydrocarbon resistant; water resistant; meet a 2-4 hour fire rating (including a 2 hour jet fire); and are operable from -60 degrees Celsius to +80 degrees Celsius. The frame assembly 102 may be injection moldable and can provide high tensile strength. In a preferred embodiment, the frame assembly 102 has an aging performance of 20 to 25 years.

[0035]

[0076] 6, in an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the frame assembly 102 includes a central wall 122 attached between the top wall 108 and the bottom wall 110, the central wall 122 being perpendicular to the two side walls 112a, 112b. The central wall 122 defines a second window 132 and a third window 134, each of which has similar functionality as the first window 124 of FIG.

[0036]

[0077] 7, in an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the frame assembly 102 includes a planar compression gasket 114 abutting the rear surface 130. The planar compression gasket 114 is configured to be compressed between the rear surface 130 and a mounting surface (not shown) by engagement of a mechanical fastener to the mounting surface, thereby creating an air-tight and weather-tight seal between the mounting surface and the rear surface 130. In other embodiments of the disclosed subject matter, the planar compression gasket 114 may be affixed to the rear surface 130. The planar compression gasket 114 includes a central rectangular aperture 118 configured to abut the top wall 108, two side walls 112a, 112b, and the bottom wall 110. In an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the planar compression gasket 114 further includes a set of holes 136 aligned with the plurality of holes 106 of the flange 104. In another embodiment, the planar compression gasket 114 extends between the central rectangular aperture 118 and the set of holes 136 .

[0037]

[0078] 8, in an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, a stayplate 400 comprises: a central planar member 402 having a centerline M; and two distal members 404 connected to either side of the central planar member 402, the two distal members 404 being arranged parallel to each other. Each of the two distal members 404 comprises an inner surface 406 extending perpendicularly away from the central planar member 402. The central planar member 402 tapers and becomes smaller from the two distal members 404 toward the centerline M.

[0038]

[0079] In an embodiment, a stay plate 400 is provided between each of the rows 204 to frictionally engage the module 200 and prevent lateral movement of the module 200 into or out of the frame assembly 102. The inner surfaces 406 of the two distal members 404 abut against opposite edges of the two side walls 112a, 112b, thereby restraining the stay plate 400 from moving into (rearward) and out of (forward) the frame assembly 102. The inner surfaces 406 abut against the forward and rearward sides of the module 200, thereby stabilizing and restraining the module 200 during assembly of the MCT and compression of the module 200 via the compression wedge unit 300.

[0039]

[0080] The stayplate 400 is constructed of a robust material that is UV resistant, hydrocarbon resistant, water resistant, rated for 2 to 4 hours of fire resistance (including 2 hour jet fire), and operable from -60 degrees Celsius to +80 degrees Celsius. The stayplate 400 can be injection moldable and can provide high tensile strength. In a preferred embodiment, the stayplate 400 has an aging performance of 20 to 25 years.

[0040]

[0081] 9, in an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the module 200 has a height H, a width W, and a length L. In some embodiments, the height-width-length (HWL) combination of the module 200 includes at least one of: 30 mm x 30 mm x 60 mm; 60 mm x 60 mm x 60 mm; 90 mm x 90 mm x 60 mm; 40 mm x 40 mm x 60 mm; or 20 mm x 20 mm x 60 mm. The module 200 comprises: an upper housing 208 configured to engage a plurality of upper layers 210; a lower housing 212 configured to engage a plurality of lower layers 214; and a core 216 disposed between the plurality of upper layers 210 and the plurality of lower layers 214. In an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212 are interchangeable and symmetrical to one another. When a core 216 or other cylindrical object is mounted and compressed between the plurality of upper layers 210 and the plurality of lower layers 214, an airtight seal is provided across the module 200. Each of the plurality of upper layers 210 is configured to engage and interconnect within an adjacent upper layer, thereby creating resistance to axial and / or rotational forces. In a similar manner, each of the plurality of lower layers 214 is configured to interconnect within an adjacent lower layer, thereby creating resistance to axial and rotational forces. An outermost layer 234 of each of the plurality of upper layers 210 and the plurality of lower layers 214 is configured to interconnect within either the upper housing 208 or the lower housing 212.

[0041]

[0082] 10, in an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212 each include a semicircular channel 222 disposed along a length L of the upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212. When the upper housing 208 aligns and abuts the lower housing 212, a cylindrical aperture (not shown) is formed between the upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212. The semicircular channel 222 includes an inner surface undulation 223 for constraining the plurality of upper layers 210 and the plurality of lower layers 214 with the upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212, respectively. In an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, the inner surface undulation 223 includes a set of alternating side ribs 226 and side channels 227 radially disposed on an inner surface 228 of the semicircular channel 222.

[0042]

[0083] The inner surface undulations 223 are configured to engage with the outer surface undulations 236 of the outermost layer 234 (FIGS. 9, 11, and 12) of the plurality of upper layers 210 and the plurality of lower layers 214. The engagement of the inner surface undulations 223 with the outer surface undulations 236 provides axial restraint between the upper housing 208 and the plurality of upper layers 210, as well as between the lower housing 212 and the plurality of lower layers 214. The upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212 each further comprise a first set of notches 230 disposed near the distal end of the semicircular channel 222, with each notch of the first set of notches 230 comprising two planar sidewalls 232 disposed at an obtuse angle to each other. The first set of notches 230 extend through first outer surfaces 238a, 238b located at the distal ends of the upper housing 208 and the lower housing 212. A first set of notches 230 provide a rotational resistance between the upper and lower housings 208, 212 and the outermost layer 234 of the plurality of upper and lower layers 210, 214. The rotational resistance prevents axial twisting of a cylindrical body disposed within the module 200.

[0043]

[0084] 11, an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter is shown of an outermost layer 234 of both the upper and lower layers 210, 214. The outermost layer 234 includes an exterior surface undulation 236 that is complementary to and interconnects within the interior surface undulation 223 such that the outermost layer 234 nests within the upper and lower housings 208, 212. The outermost layer 234 includes a pair of protrusions 240 configured to engage the set of notches 230 of the upper and lower housings 208, 212. A second set of notches 242 is disposed near a distal end of the interior surface 244 of the outermost layer 234; each notch of the second set of notches 242 includes two planar sidewalls disposed at an obtuse angle to one another. A second set of notches 230 extend through a second outer surface (246a, 246b) located at a distal end of the outermost layer 234. The plurality of upper layers (210) and the plurality of lower layers (214) have a similar geometry as the outermost layer 234, but may have a different radius of curvature.

[0044]

[0085] 12, an exploded view of the lower layers 214 is shown along with the lower housing 212 in an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter. When the lower layers 214 are assembled, cylindrical objects of various sizes can be inserted along the central axis A of the module 200, depending on the number of layers utilized. The upper layers 210 and the upper housing 208 have similar geometries and function similarly to the lower layers 214 and the lower housing 212, respectively.

[0045]

[0086] 13, an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter is shown illustrating an assembly view of multiple lower layers 214 with a lower housing 212. In a similar manner, multiple upper layers 210 can be assembled with an upper housing 208.
