AI Technical Summary
Existing wireless communication systems face challenges in efficiently indicating maximum transmit power for bandwidths greater than 160 MHz or punctured bandwidths, leading to potential interference and resource wastage.
The method involves generating a transmit power envelope (TPE) element that includes a field indicating the maximum transmit power for the bandwidth size, with an extension field for bandwidths greater than 160 MHz or using channel puncturing. This TPE element is sent by network entities to wireless devices, which decode the extended fields to determine the maximum transmit power for communication.
This solution effectively addresses the challenge of indicating maximum transmit power for wider bandwidths and punctured channels, improving communication efficiency, reducing interference, and conserving power and signaling resources.

Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] (CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS) This patent application claims priority to commonly assigned U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 269,284, entitled "MAXIMUM TRANSMIT POWER INDICATION FOR BANDWIDTHS ABOVE 160 MHZ OR FOR PUNCTURED BANDWIDTHS," filed March 14, 2022, and U.S. Nonprovisional Patent Application No. 18 / 181,365, entitled "MAXIMUM TRANSMIT POWER INDICATION FOR BANDWIDTHS ABOVE 160 MHZ OR FOR PUNCTURED BANDWIDTHS," filed March 9, 2023. The disclosures of these prior applications are considered part of, and are incorporated by reference into, this patent application.
[0002] Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and techniques and apparatus for indicating maximum transmit power for bandwidths greater than 160 MHz or for punctured bandwidths. [Background technology]
[0003] Wireless communication systems have been widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcast. A typical wireless communication system may employ multiple access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and Long Term Evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of extensions to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
[0004] A wireless network may include one or more base stations that support communication for a user equipment (UE) or multiple UEs. A UE may communicate with a base station via downlink and uplink communications. "Downlink" (or "DL") refers to the communication link from a base station to a UE, and "uplink" (or "UL") refers to the communication link from the UE to a base station.
[0005] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunications standards to provide a common protocol that allows different UEs to communicate on a city, national, regional, and / or global scale. New Radio (NR), sometimes referred to as 5G, is a set of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard promulgated by 3GPP. NR is designed to better support mobile broadband Internet access by improving spectral efficiency, lowering costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and by using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) (CP-OFDM) on the downlink and CP-OFDM and / or single-carrier frequency division multiplexing (SC-FDM) (also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink, and by better integrating with other open standards that support beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, and carrier aggregation. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to grow, further improvements in LTE, NR, and other radio access technologies remain useful. Summary of the Invention

[0036] Several aspects of a telecommunications system are now presented with reference to various devices and techniques, which are described in the detailed description that follows and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.
[0037] Although aspects may be described herein using terminology commonly associated with 5G or New Radio (NR) radio access technologies (RATs), or access points (APs) operating in accordance with International Institute of Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards (e.g., 802), aspects of the disclosure may be applicable to other RATs, such as 3G RATs, 4G RATs, post-5G (e.g., 6G) RATs, or other ultra-wideband (UWB) standards.
[0038] 1 illustrates an example of a wireless network 100 in accordance with the present disclosure. The wireless network 100 may be or include elements of a 5G (e.g., NR) network, a 4G (e.g., Long Term Evolution (LTE)) network, a wide area network (WAN) AP, a personal area network (PAN) AP, a UWB AP, among other examples. The wireless network 100 may include one user equipment (UE) 120 or multiple UEs 120 (shown as UE 120a, UE 120b, UE 120c, UE 120d, and UE 120e). The UEs 120 in some UWB networks may be referred to as "stations" (STAs). The wireless network 100 may also include one or more network entities, such as base stations or access points 110 (depicted as BS or AP 110a, pico BS or pico AP 110b, femto BS or femto AP 110c, and relay BS or relay AP 110d) and / or other network entities. The base stations or APs 110 are network entities that communicate with the UEs 120. The base stations or APs 110 (which may be referred to as BSs) may include, for example, NR base stations, LTE base stations, Node Bs, eNBs (e.g., in 4G), gNBs (e.g., in 5G), WAN APs, PAN APs, and / or transmission reception points (TRPs). Each base station or AP 110 may provide communication coverage for a particular geographic area. The term "cell" may refer to a coverage area of the base station or AP 110, an access point, and / or a base station subsystem serving this coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.
[0039] A base station or AP 110 may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, and / or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs 120 with a service subscription. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs 120 with a service subscription. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and may allow restricted access by UEs 120 with an association with the femto cell (e.g., UEs 120 in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A base station for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro base station. A base station for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico base station. A base station for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto base station or a home base station. 1, the BS or AP 110a may be a macro base station or macro AP of a macro cell 102a, the BS or AP 110b may be a pico base station or pico AP of a pico cell 102b, and the BS or AP 110c may be a femto base station or femto AP of a femto cell 102c. A base station may support one or multiple (e.g., three) cells.
[0040] In some embodiments, the cells may not necessarily be fixed, and the geographic area of the cells may move according to the location of a base station or AP 110 that is mobile (e.g., a mobile base station). In some embodiments, the base stations or APs 110 may interconnect with each other and / or with one or more other base stations or APs 110 or network entities in the wireless network 100 through various types of backhaul interfaces, such as direct physical connections or virtual networks, using any suitable transport network.
[0041] In some aspects, the term "base station" or "network entity" may refer to an aggregated base station, a non-aggregated base station, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, a relay node, and / or one or more components thereof. For example, in some aspects, a "base station" or a "network entity" may refer to a central unit (CU), a distributed unit (DU), a radio unit (RU), a Near-Real Time (Near-RT) RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC), or a Non-Real Time (Non-RT) RIC, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the term "base station" or a "network entity" may refer to one device configured to perform one or more functions, such as the functions described herein with respect to a base station or AP 110. In some aspects, the term "base station" or a "network entity" may refer to multiple devices configured to perform one or more functions. For example, in some distributed systems, multiple different devices (which may be located at the same geographic location or different geographic locations) may each be configured to perform at least a portion of the functions or replicate the operation of at least a portion of the functions, and the term "base station" or "network entity" may refer to any one or more of those different devices. In some aspects, the term "base station" or "network entity" may refer to one or more virtual base stations and / or one or more virtual base station functions. For example, in some aspects, two or more base station functions may be instantiated on a single device. In some aspects, the term "base station" or "network entity" may refer to one of the base station functions and not another base station function. In this manner, a single device may include two or more base stations.A WAN access point, a PAN access point, or a UWB access point may also be referred to as a “network entity.” A network entity may include the components described with respect to a base station or AP 110.
[0042] The wireless network 100 may include one or more relay stations. A relay station is a network entity that may receive a data transmission from an upstream station (e.g., a network entity or a UE 120) and forward the data transmission to a downstream station (e.g., a UE 120 or a network entity). A relay station may be a UE 120 that may relay a transmission for another UE 120. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, a BS or AP 110d (e.g., a relay base station) may communicate with a BS or AP 110a (e.g., a macro base station, an access point) and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS or AP 110a and the UE 120d. A base station that relays communication may be referred to as a relay station, a relay base station, a repeater, etc.
[0043] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network having network entities including different types of BSs, such as, for example, macro base stations, pico base stations, femto base stations, relay base stations, etc. These different types of base stations or APs 110 may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and / or different impacts on interference within the wireless network 100. For example, a macro base station or macro AP may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5-40 Watts), while a pico base station or pico AP, a femto base station or femto AP, and a relay base station or relay AP may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1-2 Watts).
[0044] The network controller 130 may couple to or communicate with a set of network entities and provide coordination and control for these network entities. The network controller 130 may communicate with the base stations or APs 110 via backhaul communication links. The network entities may communicate with each other directly or indirectly via wireless or wireline backhaul communication links.
[0045] The UEs 120 may be dispersed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE 120 may be fixed or mobile. The UEs 120 may include, for example, an access terminal, a terminal, a mobile station, a STA, and / or a subscriber unit. The UEs 120 may be a mobile phone (e.g., a smartphone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device, a biometric device, a wearable device (e.g., a smart watch, a smart clasp, a smart glasses, a smart wristband, a smart jewelry (e.g., a smart ring or a smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music device, a video device, and / or a satellite radio), a vehicle part or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, an industrial manufacturing equipment, a global positioning system device, and / or any other suitable device configured to communicate over a wireless medium.
[0046] Some UEs 120 may be considered as machine-type communication (MTC) UEs or evolved or enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC UEs and / or eMTC UEs may include, for example, a robot, a drone, a remote device, a sensor, a meter, a monitor, and / or a location tag that may communicate with a network entity, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. Some UEs 120 may be considered as Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband IoT) devices. Some UEs 120 may be considered as customer premises equipment. The UE 120 may be included within a housing that houses components of the UE 120, such as a processor component and / or a memory component. In some embodiments, the processor component and the memory component may be coupled together. For example, a processor component (e.g., one or more processors) and a memory component (e.g., memory) may be operatively coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, and / or electrically coupled.
[0047] Generally, any number of wireless networks 100 may be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network 100 may support a particular RAT and may operate on one or more frequencies. The RAT may be referred to as a radio technology, an air interface, etc. The frequencies may be referred to as a carrier, a frequency channel, etc. To avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs, each frequency may support a single RAT in a given geographic area. In some cases, NR networks or 5G RAT networks may be deployed.
[0048] In some embodiments, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly (e.g., without using a network entity as an intermediary to communicate with each other) using one or more sidelink channels. For example, the UEs 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communications, device-to-device (D2D) communications, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocols (which may include, e.g., vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocols, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocols, or vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) protocols), and / or mesh networks. In such embodiments, the UEs 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by the base station or AP 110.
[0049] The devices of the wireless network 100 may communicate using an electromagnetic spectrum, which may be subdivided by frequency or wavelength into various classes, bands, channels, etc. For example, the devices of the wireless network 100 may communicate using one or more operating bands. The UWB frequency bandwidth may be up to 160 MHz, up to 320 MHz, or even greater than 500 MHz. In 5G NR, two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz to 7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz). It should be understood that although a portion of FR1 is higher than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a "sub-6 GHz" band in various documents and papers. Similar nomenclature issues can arise with respect to FR2, which is often referred to (interchangeably) as the "millimeter wave" band in documents and papers, even though it is different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) bands (30 GHz to 300 GHz) identified as such by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
[0050] Frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies. Recent 5G NR studies have identified operating bands for these mid-band frequencies as frequency range designation FR3 (7.125 GHz to 24.25 GHz). Frequency bands included within FR3 may inherit FR1 and / or FR2 characteristics, and thus may in effect extend the features of FR1 and / or FR2 to the mid-band frequencies. In addition, higher frequency bands are currently being explored to extend 5G NR operation beyond 52.6 GHz. For example, three higher operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz to 71 GHz), FR4 (52.6 GHz to 114.25 GHz), and FR5 (114.25 GHz to 300 GHz). Each of these higher frequency bands is included within the EHF band.
[0051] With the above examples in mind, it should be understood that terms such as "sub-6 GHz," as used herein, unless otherwise specified, may broadly refer to frequencies that may be below 6 GHz, may be within FR1, or may include mid-band frequencies. Additionally, it should be understood that terms such as "millimeter wave," as used herein, unless otherwise specified, may broadly refer to frequencies that may be within FR2, FR4, FR4-a or FR4-1, and / or FR5, may include mid-band frequencies, or may be within the EHF band. It is contemplated that frequencies included within these operating bands (e.g., FR1, FR2, FR3, FR4, FR4-a, FR4-1, and / or FR5) may be modified, and the techniques described herein are applicable to those modified frequency ranges.
[0052] In some aspects, a network entity (e.g., a base station or AP 110) may include a communications manager 150. As described in more detail elsewhere herein, the communications manager 150 may generate a transmit power envelope (TPE) element including a field indicating a maximum transmit power for a bandwidth size, including an extension field for bandwidths greater than 160 MHz in size or for bandwidths with channel puncturing, based at least in part on detecting a difference between a first bandwidth size configured for a first device operating mode and a second bandwidth size configured for a second device operating mode. [0053] In some aspects, communications manager 150 may generate a TPE element including a power spectral density (PSD) value indicating a maximum PSD for a bandwidth size, including an extended PSD value for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz in size or for a bandwidth using channel puncturing, based at least in part on detecting a difference between a first bandwidth size configured for a first device mode of operation and a second bandwidth size configured for a second device mode of operation. Communications manager 150 may transmit the TPE element.
[0054] In some aspects, the communications manager 150 may generate a first TPE element including one or more fields indicating a maximum transmit power with respect to a bandwidth size, including a field for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz in size or for a bandwidth using channel puncturing, and including one or more of a control field or a value greater than or equal to three in a maximum transmit power interpretation subfield associated with the first TPE element. The communications manager 150 may transmit the first TPE element.
[0055] In some aspects, the communications manager 150 may generate a first TPE element including a PSD value indicating a maximum PSD for a bandwidth size, including a PSD value for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz in size or for a bandwidth using channel puncturing, and including one or more of a control field or values greater than or equal to three in a maximum transmit power interpretation subfield associated with the first TPE element. The communications manager 150 may transmit the TPE element. Additionally or alternatively, the communications manager 150 may perform one or more other operations described herein.
[0056] In some aspects, a wireless device (e.g., UE 120, STA) may include a communications manager 140. As described in more detail elsewhere herein, the communications manager 140 may receive a TPE element including a field indicating a maximum transmit power for a bandwidth size, including an extension field for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz in size or for a bandwidth using channel puncturing. The communications manager 140 may decode the extension field of the TPE element based at least in part on a first bandwidth size configured for the wireless device, whether the first bandwidth size includes channel puncturing, or one or more parameters in the TPE element. The communications manager 140 may transmit a communication using the maximum transmit power indicated in the extension field.
[0057] In some aspects, the communications manager 140 may receive a TPE element including a PSD value indicating a maximum PSD for a bandwidth size, including an extended PSD value for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz in size or for a bandwidth that uses channel puncturing. The communications manager 140 may decode the extended PSD value of the TPE element based at least in part on a first bandwidth size configured for the wireless device, whether the first bandwidth size includes channel puncturing, or one or more parameters in the TPE element. The communications manager 140 may transmit a communication using the maximum transmit PSD indicated by the extended PSD value. Additionally or alternatively, the communications manager 140 may perform one or more other operations described herein.
[0058] As noted above, Figure 1 is provided as an example. Other implementations may differ from those described with respect to Figure 1.

The transmit processor 264 may generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by the TX MIMO processor 266, if applicable, further processed by the modem 254 (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM or CP-OFDM), and transmitted to a network entity. In some embodiments, the modem 254 of the UE 120 may include a modulator and a demodulator. In some embodiments, the UE 120 includes a transceiver. [0075] FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating an example of a non-aggregated base station 300 in accordance with the present disclosure.
[0076] The deployment of a communication system such as a 5G NR system may be configured in multiple ways with various components or components. In a 5G NR system or network, network equipment such as a network node, network entity, mobility element of the network, radio access network (RAN) node, core network node, network element, or base station, or one or more units (or one or more components) performing base station functionality may be implemented in an aggregated or non-aggregated architecture. For example, a BS (e.g., a Node B, evolved NB (eNB), NR BS, 5G NB, AP, TRP, or cell, etc.) may be implemented as an aggregated base station (also known as a standalone BS or a monolithic BS) or a non-aggregated base station.
[0077] An aggregated base station may be configured to utilize a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single RAN node. A non-aggregated base station may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed between two or more units (e.g., one or more CUs, one or more DUs, or one or more RUs). In some aspects, a CU may be implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs may be co-located with the CU, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed across one or more other RAN nodes. A DU may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs. Each of the CU, DU, and RU may also be implemented as a virtual unit, i.e., a virtual central unit (VCU), a virtual distributed unit (VDU), or a virtual radio unit (VRU).
[0078] The operation of a base station type or network design may take into account the aggregation characteristics of the base station functions. For example, a non-aggregated base station may be utilized in a virtualized radio access network (RAN), also known as an IAB network, an open radio access network (O-RAN, such as the network configuration operated by the O-RAN Alliance), or a cloud radio access network (C-RAN). Non-aggregation may include distributing functions across two or more units in various physical locations, as well as distributing functions virtually for at least one unit, which may allow flexibility in network design. Various units of a non-aggregated base station, or a non-aggregated RAN architecture, may be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit.
[0079] The unaggregated base station 300 architecture may include one or more CUs 310 that may communicate directly with the core network 320 via a backhaul link or indirectly with the core network 320 via one or more unaggregated base station units (such as a quasi-RT RIC 325 via an E2 link, or a non-RT RIC 315 associated with a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) framework 305, or both). The CUs 310 may communicate with one or more DUs 330 via respective midhaul links, such as an F1 interface. The DUs 330 may communicate with one or more RUs 340 via respective fronthaul links. The fronthaul links, midhaul links, and backhaul links may be generally referred to as "communication links." The RUs 340 may communicate with respective UEs 120 via one or more RF access links. In some aspects, a UE 120 may be served by multiple RUs 340 simultaneously. The DU 330 and the RU 340 may also be referred to as "O-RAN DU (O-DUs)" and "O-RAN RU (O-RUs)", respectively. The network entity may include a CU, a DU, a RU, or any combination of a CU, a DU, and a RU. The network entity may include one or more components of a non-aggregated base station, such as a non-aggregated base station, or any combination of a CU, a DU, a RU, or a CU, a DU, and a RU. The network entity may also include one or more of a TRP, a relay station, a passive device, an intelligent reflective surface (IRS), or other components that may provide a network interface for or provide services to a UE, a mobile station, a sensor / actuator, or other wireless device.
[0080] Each of the units, i.e., CU 310, DU 330, RU 340, quasi-RT RIC 325, non-RT RIC 315, and SMO framework 305, may include or be coupled to one or more interfaces configured to receive or transmit signals, data, or information (collectively, signals) over a wired or wireless transmission medium. Each of the units, or an associated processor or controller that provides instructions to the unit's communication interface, may be configured to communicate with one or more of the other units over a transmission medium. For example, a unit may include a wired interface configured to receive or transmit signals to one or more of the other units over a wired transmission medium. In addition, a unit may include a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, transmitter, or transceiver (such as an RF transceiver), configured to receive and / or transmit signals to one or more of the other units over a wireless transmission medium.
[0081] In some aspects, the CU 310 may host one or more higher layer control functions. Such control functions may include radio resource control (RRC), packet data convergence protocol (PDCP), service data adaptation protocol (SDAP), etc. Each control function may be implemented with an interface configured to communicate signals with other control functions hosted by the CU 310. The CU 310 may be configured to handle user plane functionality (i.e., Central Unit - User Plane (CU-UP)), control plane functionality (i.e., Central Unit - Control Plane (CU-CP)), or a combination thereof. In some implementations, the CU 310 may be logically divided into one or more CU-UP units and one or more CU-CP units. The CU-UP unit, when implemented in an O-RAN configuration, may communicate bidirectionally with the CU-CP unit via an interface, such as an E1 interface. The CU 310 may be implemented to communicate with the DU 330, as necessary, for network control and signaling.
[0082] The DU 330 may correspond to a logical unit including one or more base station functions for controlling the operation of one or more RUs 340. In some aspects, the DU 330 may host one or more of a radio link control (RLC) layer, a medium access control (MAC) layer, and one or more higher physical (PHY) layers (such as modules for forward error correction (FEC) encoding and decoding, scrambling, modulation, demodulation, etc.), at least in part according to a functional division such as that defined by 3GPP. In some aspects, the DU 330 may further host one or more lower PHY layers. Each layer (or module) may be implemented with an interface configured to communicate signals with other layers (and modules) hosted by the DU 330 or with a control function hosted by the CU 310.
[0083] The lower layer functions may be implemented by one or more RUs 340. In some deployments, the RUs 340 controlled by the DU 330 may correspond to logical nodes hosting RF processing functions, or lower PHY layer functions (such as performing fast Fourier transform (FFT), inverse FFT (iFFT), digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc.), or both, based at least in part on a functional division such as a lower layer functional division. In such an architecture, the RU(s) 340 may be implemented to handle over the air (OTA) communications with one or more UEs 120. In some implementations, real-time and non-real-time aspects of control plane and user plane communications with the RU(s) 340 may be controlled by the corresponding DU 330. In some scenarios, this configuration may enable the DU(s) 330 and the CU 310 to be implemented in a cloud-based RAN architecture, such as a vRAN architecture.
[0084] The SMO framework 305 may be configured to support RAN deployment and provisioning of non-virtualized and virtualized network elements. For non-virtualized network elements, the SMO framework 305 may be configured to support deployment of dedicated physical resources for RAN coverage requirements that may be managed via an operation and maintenance interface (such as an O1 interface). For virtualized network elements, the SMO framework 305 may be configured to interact with a cloud computing platform (such as an open cloud (O-cloud) 390) to perform network element lifecycle management (such as instantiating virtualized network elements) via a cloud computing platform interface (such as an O2 interface). Such virtualized network elements may include, but are not limited to, the CU 310, the DU 330, the RU 340, and the quasi-RT RIC 325. In some implementations, the SMO framework 305 may communicate with hardware aspects of a 4G RAN, such as an open eNB (O-eNB) 311, via an O1 interface. Additionally, in some implementations, the SMO framework 305 can communicate directly with one or more RUs 340 via an O1 interface. The SMO framework 305 may also include a non-RT RIC 315 configured to support the functionality of the SMO framework 305.
[0085] The non-RT RIC 315 may be configured to include logic functions that enable non-real-time control and optimization of RAN elements and resources, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI / ML) workflows including model training and updates, or policy-based guidance of applications / features in the quasi-RT RIC 325. The non-RT RIC 315 may be coupled to or in communication with the quasi-RT RIC 325 (e.g., via an A1 interface). The quasi-RT RIC 325 may be configured to include logic functions that enable near real-time control and optimization of RAN elements and resources by data collection and action over interfaces (e.g., via an E2 interface) that connect one or more CUs 310, one or more DUs 330, or both, and the O-eNB to the quasi-RT RIC 325.
[0086] In some implementations, the non-RT RIC 315 may receive parameters or external enrichment information from an external server to generate AI / ML models to be deployed to the quasi-RT RIC 325. Such information may be utilized by the quasi-RT RIC 325 or may be received from non-network data sources or from network functions in the SMO framework 305 or the non-RT RIC 315. In some embodiments, the non-RT RIC 315 or the quasi-RT RIC 325 may be configured to adjust RAN behavior or performance. For example, the non-RT RIC 315 may employ AI / ML models to monitor long-term trends and patterns in performance and implement corrective actions through the SMO framework 305 (e.g., reconfiguration via O1) or through the creation of RAN management policies (e.g., A1 policies).
[0087] As noted above, Figure 3 is provided as an example, other implementations may differ from those described with respect to Figure 3.
[0088] FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating an example TPE format 400 according to the present disclosure.
[0089] Network entities, such as APs, and UEs, such as STAs, may communicate within a bandwidth using transmit power. The transmit power may be limited within the bandwidth to manage power and interference. For example, a network entity may be configured to support a bandwidth size of up to 160 MHz in IEEE standard 802.11ax. These bandwidth sizes may be applicable to a high efficiency (HE) basic service set (BSS) mode of operation. Example 400 illustrates an example of a TPE format 402 that includes octets indicating an element identifier (ID), a length, transmit power information, and a maximum transmit power. A transmit power information field format 404 for transmit power information may include bits indicating a maximum transmission power count, a maximum transmit power interpretation, and a maximum transmit power category. A maximum transmit power interpretation subfield coding 406 of the maximum transmit power interpretation field may indicate a value that identifies whether the maximum transmit power is effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) or EIRP PSD.
[0090] If the value of the Maximum Transmit Power Interpretation subfield is 0 (zero) or 2, the maximum transmit power may be determined according to the value of the Meaning of Maximum Transmit Power Count subfield 408 to 0 or 2. The Maximum Transmit Power field format 410 to 0 or 2 indicates the bandwidth to which the maximum transmit power applies.
[0091] If the value of the Maximum Transmit Power Interpretation subfield is 1 or 3, the maximum transmit power PSD may be determined according to the value of the Meaning of Maximum Transmit Power Count subfield 412 to 1 or 3. The Maximum Transmit Power field format 414 to 1 or 3 indicates the PSD value.
[0092] In some scenarios, when the AP operates in an extremely high throughput (EHT) BSS mode of operation, in IEEE 802.11be, the AP may support bandwidth sizes greater than 160 MHz (e.g., up to 320 MHz) including the use of puncturing. One or more subchannels within the bandwidth are punctured when a signal or information (e.g., bits) is cancelled and / or a different signal or information is inserted into one or more subchannels. However, current TPE elements do not support bandwidths greater than 160 MHz in size, and future bandwidth sizes may include even wider bandwidths such as 640 MHz (320 MHz+320 MHz) at 6 GHz or beyond. In future 802.11 standards, wider bandwidths may be used at 60 GHz. Because the TPE element is transmitted in management frames such as beacons, the TPE element size is constrained to minimize beacon bloat. Also, if there are any changes to the TPE element, the design should be backward and forward compatible. Furthermore, when bandwidth is punctured, the punctured bandwidth value and the value after the punctured bandwidth may not be correctly decoded by existing devices. Without proper support for indicating maximum transmit power for bandwidths above 160 MHz and for punctured bandwidths, communications may be degraded and signaling resources may be wasted.
[0093] As noted above, Figure 4 is provided as an example. Other implementations may differ from that described with respect to Figure 4.
[0094] FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating an example 500 illustrating maximum transmit power for bandwidths having a size greater than 160 MHz or for punctured bandwidths in accordance with the present disclosure.
[0095] According to various aspects described herein, a network entity may generate a TPE element that may indicate a maximum transmit power for a bandwidth size or for a punctured bandwidth greater than 160 MHz. The network entity may generate this new TPE element if the network entity detects a difference between a first bandwidth size configured for a first device mode of operation (e.g., EHT BSS) and a second bandwidth size configured for a second device mode of operation (e.g., HE BSS). That is, the network entity may generate a new TPE because the network entity's EHT BSS is configured to use a wider bandwidth than the network entity's HE BSS. The first device mode of operation and the second device mode of operation may each correspond to a specified configuration for a bandwidth size, a device class, and / or a device capability. Although the TPE element described herein may refer to a specified format such as shown in FIG. 4-FIG. 6, the term "TPE element" may also refer more generally to transmit power information, or other element formats for other RATs.
[0096] In some aspects, depending on the maximum transmit power interpretation, the network entity can add a field for bandwidths larger than 160 MHz in size (extension field) to the TPE element, or can add a PSD value for bandwidths larger than 160 MHz in size (extended PSD value). The extension field and extended PSD value can also be used for punctured bandwidths, where one or more 20 MHz subchannels of the bandwidth are punctured.
[0097] The HE TPE element may be configured based on the operating channel bandwidth of the HE BSS managed by the network entity 510. The example 500 shows a TPE format 502 with maximum transmit power values for a 20 MHz bandwidth, a 40 MHz bandwidth, an 80 MHz bandwidth, and a 160 MHz bandwidth, similar to the TPE format 402 of FIG. 4. However, the TPE format 502 may take into account EHT-specific information and includes an extension field 504 for a maximum transmit power of 320 MHz. The extension field 504 may be a field that extends or adds to an existing field in the TPE format for the HE BSS. The network entity 510 may use the extension field 504 if the TPE element indicates a value of 0 or 2 in the maximum transmit power interpretation subfield associated with the TPE element.
[0098] The example 500 also illustrates a TPE format 506 having maximum transmit PSD values for the eight 20 MHz subchannels of an HE BSS. The TPE format 506 may include an extended PSD value 508. The extended PSD value 508 may be considered a PSD value that extends or adds to an existing field in the TPE format for an HE BSS. The extended PSD value 508 may include eight maximum transmit PSD values for the eight 20 MHz subchannels of an EHT BSS. For example, if the network entity's HE BSS operates at 160 MHz while the network entity 510 has an EHT BSS operating at 320 MHz, the network entity 510 may generate a TPE element indicating a PSD value for each 20 MHz subchannel, including the extended PSD value 508 for the 20 MHz subchannels above 160 MHz. The network entity 510 may use the extended PSD value 508 if the TPE element indicates a value of 1 or 3 in the maximum transmit power interpretation subfield associated with the TPE element.
[0099] The network entity 510 may increase the value of the length field of the TPE element to account for the extension field 504 (e.g., the length is increased to 6) or to account for the expanded PSD value 508 (e.g., the length is increased to 17). The location and size of the extension field 504 and the expanded PSD value 508 may vary according to different designs.
[0100] Example 500 illustrates an example of a network entity 510 (e.g., a base station or AP 110) that may communicate with a UE 520 (e.g., a UE 120) and control the transmit power of the UE 520. As indicated by reference numeral 525, the network entity 510 may generate a TPE element having an extension field 504 or an extended PSD value 508. The network entity 510 may enumerate one or more values for one or more bandwidths in the extension field 504 in ascending bandwidth order. The network entity 510 may enumerate the extended PSD values 508 in frequency order, e.g., in ascending frequency order. The extension field 504 and the extended PSD value 508 may include one or more values for a bandwidth size of 320 MHz or for a bandwidth size greater than 320 MHz (e.g., 640 MHz, 1.28 GHz).
[0101] The network entity 510 may transmit a TPE element, as indicated by reference numeral 530. The network entity may transmit the TPE element in a management frame, such as a beacon or a probe response frame.
[0102] As indicated by reference numeral 535, a UE 520, as an example of a receiving device, may decode the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value 508. The UE 520 may decode the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value 508 based at least in part on a first bandwidth size configured for the wireless device, whether the first bandwidth size includes channel puncturing, or one or more parameters in the TPE element. For example, if the UE 520 is operating in a first device operating mode (e.g., EHT BSS) configured with a first bandwidth size larger than a second bandwidth size configured for the second device operating mode (e.g., HE BSS), the network entity 510 may decode the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value 508. The bandwidth difference may be, for example, 320 MHz vs. 160 MHz, or 160 MHz vs. 40 MHz.
[0103] In some aspects, if the UE 520 determines that the difference between the length field in the TPE element and the maximum transmit power count field in the TPE element meets the difference threshold, the network entity 510 may decode the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value 508. For example, when decoding the extension field 504, there may be a gap between the size of the length field and the size of the maximum transmit power count field. If the length field indicates a value of 5 and the maximum transmit power count indicates a value of 3, the gap is 2. This may be considered a legacy gap for an HE BSS. If the extension field 504 is used, the length field may be 6 and thus the gap may extend to 3. The difference threshold may be 3, and thus the UE 520 may decode the extension field 504 if the gap between the length and the maximum transmit power count meets the difference threshold of 3.
[0104] Similarly, when decoding the PSD value 508, there may be a gap between the size of the length field and the value N derived from the maximum transmit power count. If the length is 9 and N is 8, the legacy gap for the HE BSS is 1. If an extended PSD value 508 is used, the length may be 17 and the gap may be extended to 9. The difference threshold for the extended PSD value 508 may be greater than 1, for example 9. If the gap between the length and N meets the difference threshold for the extended PSD value 508, the UE 520 may decode the extended PSD value 508.
[0105] In some aspects, to apply the maximum transmit PSD to the entire bandwidth (all unpunctured subchannels of the operating bandwidth), the network entity 510 may set the value of the Max Transmit Power Count to 0 (zero), which means there is no change in the TPE format 402 for the HE BSS. When the Max Transmit Power Count is set to 0, the UE 520 may apply the maximum transmit power or maximum transmit PSD to the entire bandwidth.
[0106] Upon decoding the TPE element, including decoding the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value 508, the UE 520 may obtain a maximum transmit power for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz or a maximum PSD value for a subchannel of a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz. As indicated by reference numeral 540, the UE 520 may transmit a communication based at least in part on the maximum transmit power or maximum transmit PSD obtained from the TPE element. This may include selecting a transmit power for a bandwidth or subchannel that does not exceed the maximum transmit power or maximum transmit PSD. The UE 520 may select to use the maximum transmit power or maximum transmit PSD. By using the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value 508, the network entity 510 may indicate, and the UE 520 may use, a maximum transmit power or maximum transmit PSD for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz. As a result, the UE 520 and other receiving devices may avoid more interference, improve communication, conserve power, and conserve signaling resources when operating in an EHT BSS mode.
[0107] In some scenarios, the bandwidth may be punctured in one or more 20 MHz subchannels, and some bandwidth may not be feasible (temporarily) due to puncturing. The network entity 510 may reference a disabled subchannel bitmap field (or similar), which is a bitmap (puncturing pattern) in which the lowest numbered bit corresponds to a 20 MHz subchannel that is within the BSS bandwidth and has the lowest frequency of the set of all 20 MHz subchannels within the BSS bandwidth. Each succeeding bit in the bitmap corresponds to the next higher frequency 20 MHz subchannel. A bit in the bitmap is set to 1 to indicate that the corresponding 20 MHz subchannel is punctured, and is set to 0 to indicate that the corresponding 20 MHz subchannel is not punctured.
[0108] For example, the puncturing pattern may have the value 0011 0000, where the third and fourth 20 MHz subchannels marked with a "1" are punctured. For a puncturing pattern of 0011 0000, assuming that the leftmost subchannel is the primary channel, the HE BSS can only use a maximum bandwidth of 40 MHz (as the HE BSS requires contiguous bandwidth), and therefore the HE BSS will only use two maximum transmit power values of 20 MHz and 40 MHz, respectively.
[0109] In some aspects, if a puncturing pattern is valid for an EHT BSS, the network entity 510 may indicate, and the UE 520 may use, the maximum transmit power or maximum transmit PSD of the punctured bandwidth. For an EHT BSS, a valid puncturing pattern may be defined (e.g., Tables 36-30 in IEEE Standard 802.11be for a 5-bit punctured channel indication for non-OFDMA cases in an EHT multi-user (MU) procedure protocol data unit (PPDU)). Otherwise, if the puncturing pattern is invalid according to the 802.11be standard, the network entity 510 may skip inserting a value into the TPE element for the EHT BSS for the bandwidth.
[0110] For example, if the puncturing pattern is 0000 1111 0000 0000 (for EHT BSS) and is valid, the network entity 510 may use 20 decibel milliwatts (dBm) for the 20 MHz and 40 MHz bandwidths, and 23 dBm for the 80 MHz, 160 MHz, and 320 MHz bandwidths. That is, the network entity 510 may indicate the maximum transmit power values as (20, 20) only for the 20 MHz and 40 MHz bandwidths for the HE BSS, but add three additional maximum transmit power values as (20, 20, 23, 23, 23) in the extension field for the 80 MHz, 160 MHz, and 320 MHz bandwidths for the EHT BSS. The last three additional maximum transmit power values may be available only for the EHT BSS. According to the 802.11be standard, 0000 1111 is an invalid puncturing pattern for 160 MHz, so to reduce the size of the TPE element, the network entity 510 may skip the maximum transmit power value for 160 MHz and indicate only four maximum transmit power values in the TPE element for the 20 MHz, 40 MHz, 80 MHz, and 320 MHz bandwidths as (20, 20, 23, 23). In this case, the UE 520 may skip decoding the maximum transmit power value for the 160 MHz bandwidth in the TPE based on the operating bandwidth of the EHT BSS and the puncturing pattern indicated by the network entity 510. As a result, the network entity 510 and the UE 520 may improve communication over a wider bandwidth while saving power and signaling resources. For forward compatibility, the network entity 510 may insert a control field at the beginning of the extension field 504 or the extended PSD value field 508. Forward compatibility may mean that the control field may be used by the UE 520 or a station supporting the EHT BSS mode of operation to decode the TPE element. The control field may allow the UE 520 to interpret subsequent values in the extension field 504 or extended PSD value field 508 in a different way.
[0111] As noted above, Figure 5 is provided as an example. Other implementations may differ from those described with respect to Figure 5.
[0112] FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating another example 600 illustrating maximum transmit power for bandwidths having a size greater than 160 MHz or for punctured bandwidths in accordance with the present disclosure.
[0113] In some aspects, rather than adding an extension field 504 or an extended PSD value 508, the network entity 510 may transmit two TPE elements, one legacy TPE element for the HE BSS and one new TPE element for the EHT BSS indicating the value for the newer standard and the value for the bandwidth greater than 160 MHz or the punctured bandwidth. The network entity 510 may transmit the two TPE elements in the same management frame (e.g., beacon, response probe frame). The UE 520 may combine the two TPE elements to obtain complete information about the entire bandwidth.
[0114] In some aspects, the new EHT TPE element may include a currently reserved maximum transmit power interpretation field value (e.g., values 4-7). For example, the maximum transmit power interpretation subfield encoding 602 may include separate values for the HE TPE element and the EHT TPE element. A value of 4 for the EHT may correspond to a value of 0 for the HE. A value of 5 (or 6) for the EHT may correspond to a value of 2 for the HE. A value of 6 (or 5) for the EHT may correspond to a value of 1 for the HE. A value of 7 for the EHT may correspond to a value of 3 for the HE. The network entity 510 may transmit a new TPE element for the EHT and a TPE element for the HE. If the value of the maximum transmit power interpretation subfield is 4 or greater, as indicated by reference numeral 605, the UE 520 may decode a new TPE element for the EHT for the higher or punctured bandwidth. Once the maximum transmit power value of the new EHT TPE element is decoded, the UE 520 combines the maximum transmit power values from the corresponding HE TPE elements to obtain an overall set of maximum transmit power values.
[0115] Instead, the network entity 510 may add a control field to the new TPE element for EHT for forward compatibility. Example 600 shows an example TPE format 606 for a legacy HE TPE element and an example TPE format 608 for a new EHT TPE element with an added control field. The control field may be located, for example, before the maximum transmit power field or at the beginning of the maximum transmit power field. The control field may indicate that the maximum transmit power field contains a maximum transmit power or a maximum transmit PSD for a bandwidth greater than 160 MHz, for example, 320 MHz, or for a bandwidth with channel puncturing. TPE format 608 shows how the maximum transmit power for 320 MHz may be communicated from the network entity 510 to the UE 520. The control field may provide forward compatibility because the control field may generally indicate (using one octet) or specifically identify the new standard, configuration, or bandwidth size to which the maximum transmit power value belongs. Forward compatibility may mean that the control field may be used by the UE 520 or a station supporting the EHT BSS mode of operation to decode the TPE element. As indicated by reference numeral 610, the UE 520 may decode a new TPE element for the EHT for a higher or punctured bandwidth based at least in part on the presence of the control field in the TPE element or the value of the control field. The TPE format 606 and the TPE format 608 show how a maximum transmit power value for a bandwidth larger than 160 MHz in size or a bandwidth with channel puncturing is transmitted by combining the HE TPE with the corresponding EHT TPE if the maximum transmit power interpretation subfield of the HE TPE has a value of 0 or 2. Similarly, a maximum transmit PSD value for a bandwidth larger than 160 MHz in size or a bandwidth with channel puncturing may be transmitted by combining the HE TPE with the corresponding EHT TPE if the maxim transmit power interpretation subfield of the HE TPE has a value of 1 or 3.
[0116] As noted above, Figure 6 is provided as an example, other implementations may differ from those described with respect to Figure 6.
