AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current frequency hopping mechanisms for RedCap UE are not effectively integrated into the BWP framework, leading to challenges in configuring frequency hopping patterns and managing paired and unpaired spectra.

Method used

Implementing a BWP framework for RedCap UE frequency hopping by defining new parameters for resource block allocation and center frequency selection, allowing for frequency hopping within or wider than the RedCap UE's RF bandwidth, and separating uplink and downlink frequency hopping configurations.

Benefits of technology

Enables efficient frequency hopping configurations for RedCap UE, improving positioning accuracy by aligning frequency hops with BWP settings and reducing scheduler complexity while maintaining synchronization and resynchronization requirements.

Abstract

Various embodiments provide methods for signaling RedCap user equipment devices (UEs) to perform frequency hopping using a Bandwidth Part (BWP) framework. These methods may include the use of new parameters for signaling frequency hopping and for distinguishing between paired and unpaired spectra. In one embodiment, for sounding resource signal (SRS) / positioning reference signal (PRS) frequency hopping, a RedCap UE may be assigned a BWP no wider than the RedCap UE's radio frequency (RF) bandwidth (BW). In such cases, the new parameters may be defined to be associated with an RB assignment for each frequency hop.
