[0018] The water solubility of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient at 25° C. is 15 ppm by mass or less, for example, 13 ppm by mass or less, or even 10 ppm by mass or less. The water solubility of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient at 25° C. is usually 0.001 ppm by mass or more, and may be 0.01 ppm by mass or more. The water solubility of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient at 25° C. is preferably 0.01 to 13 ppm by mass, more preferably 0.1 to 10 ppm by mass, and even more preferably 0.5 to 5 ppm by mass.

[0019] In this specification, the water solubility at 25° C. refers to the solubility in water having a temperature of 25° C. and a pH of 7. For example, a water solubility of 15 ppm by mass at 25° C. means that the solubility in 1 g of water having a temperature of 25° C. and a pH of 7 is 15×10 -6 This means that the value is g. The water solubility of a hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient can be determined from literature values. If no literature values are available, the water solubility of a hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient can be measured by quantifying the amount of saturation solubility in water at a temperature of 25° C. and a pH of 7 using high performance liquid chromatography.

[0020] The melting point of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient is 10° C. or higher, and may be, for example, 20° C. or higher, or may be 30° C. or higher. The melting point of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient is usually 300° C. or lower, and may be 180° C. or lower. The melting point of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient is preferably 20°C or higher and 300°C or lower, more preferably 30°C or higher and 180°C or lower. The melting point of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient may be a literature value. If there is no literature value, the melting point of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient may be measured by heating a sample filled in a capillary tube and measuring the melting point as the temperature at which the sample melts in the capillary tube and no solid is observed.

[0021] The hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient contained in the liquid pesticide composition has a water solubility of 15 mass ppm or less at 25°C and a melting point of 10°C or more, preferably a water solubility of 0.01 to 13 mass ppm at 25°C and a melting point of 20 to 300°C, more preferably a water solubility of 0.1 to 10 mass ppm at 25°C and a melting point of 30 to 180°C, and even more preferably a water solubility of 0.5 to 5 mass ppm at 25°C and a melting point of 30 to 180°C. According to the present invention, even when the above-mentioned pesticide active ingredient that is poorly water-soluble and has a relatively high melting point is used, it is possible to provide a liquid pesticide composition that has good storage stability at low temperatures and good emulsion stability when mixed with water.

[0022] The hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient has a partition coefficient (logP) between 1-octanol and water at 25° C. of usually 2.3 to 5.3, preferably 2.5 to 5.0, and more preferably 3.0 to 4.5. A hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient having a partition coefficient within this range is suitable as a pesticide active ingredient to be formulated into an emulsifiable concentrate. For logP, a literature value can be used. If no literature value exists, logP can be measured by high performance liquid chromatography according to OECD Test Guideline 117.

[0023] When the total amount of the liquid pesticide composition is 100% by mass, the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient in the liquid pesticide composition is usually 3% by mass to 10% by mass, preferably 4% by mass to 10% by mass, more preferably 5% by mass to 10% by mass, and even more preferably 5% by mass to 8% by mass. Other preferred ranges of the content are, for example, 3% by mass to 8% by mass, 4% by mass to 8% by mass, 3% by mass to 9% by mass, 4% by mass to 9% by mass, or 5% by mass to 9% by mass. Adjusting the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient within the above range is advantageous in terms of appropriately increasing the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient in the liquid pesticide composition while improving the storage stability of the liquid pesticide composition at low temperatures and the emulsion stability when mixed with water.

[0024] When the liquid pesticide composition contains two or more hydrophobic pesticide active ingredients, the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredients is the total content of the two or more hydrophobic pesticide active ingredients. The same applies to other components that the liquid pesticide composition contains or may contain, which will be described later, and when the liquid pesticide composition contains two or more, the content of the components is the total content of the components, unless otherwise specified.

[0025] (b) First Solvent The liquid pesticide composition contains a first solvent which is ε-caprolactone. When the total amount of the liquid pesticide composition is 100% by mass, the content of the first solvent in the liquid pesticide composition is usually 3.6% by mass to 60% by mass, preferably 5% by mass to 60% by mass, more preferably 5% by mass to 40% by mass, even more preferably 10% by mass to 40% by mass, and particularly preferably 10% by mass to 30% by mass. Other preferred ranges of the content are, for example, 3.6% by mass to 50% by mass, 3.6% by mass to 40% by mass, 3.6% by mass to 30% by mass, 5% by mass to 50% by mass, 5% by mass to 30% by mass, 6% by mass to 60% by mass, 6% by mass to 50% by mass, 6% by mass to 40% by mass, or 6% by mass to 30% by mass.

[0026] The content of the first solvent is usually 1.2 to 15.0 times the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, preferably 1.2 to 9.0 times, more preferably 1.2 to 8.0 times, even more preferably 1.3 to 6.0 times, and particularly preferably 1.3 to 3.3 times. Other preferred ranges of the ratio (mass ratio) of the content of the first solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient are, for example, 1.2 to 6.0 times, 1.2 to 3.3 times, 1.3 to 10.0 times, 1.3 to 9.0 times, or 1.3 to 8.0 times.

[0027] Adjusting the content of the first solvent in the liquid pesticide composition and the ratio (mass ratio) of the content of the first solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient within the above ranges is suitable for improving the storage stability of the liquid pesticide composition at low temperatures and the emulsion stability when mixed with water, on the premise that 1) the contents of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, the second solvent, and the surfactant in the liquid pesticide composition, 2) the total content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, the first solvent, the second solvent, and the surfactant, and 3) the ratio (mass ratio) of the content of the second solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient are each adjusted within a specific range.

[0028] (c) Second Solvent The liquid pesticide composition contains one or more second solvents. The second solvent is a solvent having a water solubility of 1% by mass or less at 25°C.

[0034] The water solubility of the second solvent may be a value listed in the Solubility Database of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) or the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). If not listed in the database, the water solubility of the second solvent may be measured by quantifying the amount of saturation solubility in water at a temperature of 25° C. and a pH of 7 using high performance liquid chromatography.

[0035] When the total amount of the liquid pesticide composition is 100% by mass, the content of the second solvent in the liquid pesticide composition is usually 19.5% by mass to 85% by mass, preferably 25% by mass to 85% by mass, more preferably 25% by mass to 80% by mass, even more preferably 30% by mass to 80% by mass, even more preferably 40% by mass to 80% by mass, and particularly preferably 50% by mass to 75% by mass. Other preferred ranges of the content are, for example, 19.5% by mass to 80% by mass, 19.5% by mass to 75% by mass, 25% by mass to 75% by mass, 30% by mass to 85% by mass, 30% by mass to 75% by mass, 40% by mass to 85% by mass, 40% by mass to 75% by mass, 50% by mass to 85% by mass, or 50% by mass to 80% by mass.

[0036] The content of the second solvent is usually 6.5 to 25.0 times the mass of the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, preferably 6.5 to 13.0 times, more preferably 6.6 to 13.0 times, even more preferably 6.8 to 13.0 times, even more preferably 7.0 to 13.0 times, and particularly preferably 7.0 to 9.0 times. Other preferred ranges of the ratio (mass ratio) of the content of the first solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient are, for example, 6.5 to 20.2 times, 6.5 to 18.2 times, 6.5 to 11.0 times, 6.5 to 9.0 times, 6.6 to 11.0 times, 6.6 to 9.0 times, or 6.8 to 9.0 times.

[0037] Adjusting the content of the second solvent in the liquid pesticide composition and the ratio of the content of the second solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient within the above ranges is suitable for improving the storage stability of the liquid pesticide composition at low temperatures and the emulsion stability when mixed with water, on the premise that 1) the contents of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, the first solvent, and the surfactant in the liquid pesticide composition, 2) the total contents of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, the first solvent, the second solvent, and the surfactant, and 3) the ratio of the content of the first solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient are each adjusted within a specific range.

In Tables 1 to 8, "first solvent / hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient" refers to the mass ratio of the content of the first solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient, and "second solvent / hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient" refers to the mass ratio of the content of the second solvent to the content of the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient.

[0062] (2) Evaluation of liquid pesticide compositions (2-1) Storage stability at low temperatures In a room temperature environment, 20 mL of the liquid pesticide composition and three crystal grains (crystal size: about 1 mm) of the same hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient as the hydrophobic pesticide active ingredient contained in the liquid pesticide composition were placed in a glass container, and immediately stored at 0°C. After 5 days from the start of storage, the changes in the size and number of crystals were visually observed, and the storage stability of the liquid pesticide composition at low temperatures was evaluated according to the following evaluation criteria. The results are shown in Tables 1 to 8. If the evaluation is A or B, it can be said that crystals are unlikely to precipitate or grow at low temperatures, and it can be evaluated that the storage stability at low temperatures is good. A: The crystal size is smaller than the original size or has dissolved and disappeared. B: No change in crystal size or number C: The number of crystals remains the same, but the size of the crystals is larger than the original size. D: The number of crystals has increased and the size of the crystals is larger than the original size.

[0063] (2-2) Emulsion stability when mixed with water In a room temperature environment, 99 mL of 30°C CIPAC standard water D (hardness: 342 ppm) was added to a 100 mL stoppered graduated cylinder, and 1 mL of the liquid pesticide composition was slowly dropped from a height of about 8 cm above the water surface. The graduated cylinder was stoppered, and the operation of turning the graduated cylinder 180° in 1 second and returning it to its original position in 1 second was repeated 10 times, and then the graduated cylinder was left to stand for 24 hours in a thermostatic water bath at 30°C. After standing, the state inside the graduated cylinder was visually observed, and the emulsion stability when mixed with water was evaluated according to the following evaluation criteria. The results are shown in Tables 1 to 8. If the evaluation is A, B, or C, it can be said that crystals are unlikely to precipitate and grow, and it can be evaluated that the emulsion stability when mixed with water is good. A: No crystal precipitation observed B: Tiny crystals are precipitated, with less than 10 grains C: Tiny crystals are precipitated, with the number of crystals being between 10 and 100. D: Tiny crystals are precipitated, with more than 100 grains. E: Larger crystals are precipitated compared to B to D.
