Abstract
Description
[Technical field]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0075] Before describing the examples in detail, certain general principles of wireless communication systems and mobile communication devices will be briefly described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 to aid in understanding the technology underlying the described examples.
[0076] In a wireless communication system 100 as shown in FIG. 1, wireless communication devices, e.g., user equipment (UE) or MTC devices 102, 104, 105, are provided with wireless access via at least one base station or similar wireless transmitting and / or receiving wireless infrastructure node or radio point. Such a node may be, e.g., a base station or eNodeB (eNB), or in a 5G system, a next generation NodeB (gNB), or other wireless infrastructure node. These nodes are generally referred to as base stations. These base stations are typically controlled by at least one suitable controller device to enable their operation and management of mobile communication devices communicating with them. The controller device may be located in a radio access network (e.g., the wireless communication system 100) or a core network (CN) (not shown) and may be implemented as one central device or its functions may be distributed across several devices. The controller device may be part of a base station and / or may be provided by a separate entity such as a radio network controller. In FIG. 1, controllers 108 and 109 are shown controlling the respective macro-level base stations 106 and 107. In some systems, the controller may additionally or alternatively be located in a radio network controller. Other examples of radio access systems are those provided by base stations in systems based on technologies such as 5G or new radio, wireless local area networks (WLANs) and / or WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). A base station may provide coverage for an entire cell or similar radio service area.
[0077] In Figure 1, base stations 106 and 107 are shown as connected to a wider communications network 113 via a gateway 112. Further gateway functions may be provided to connect to other networks.
[0078] Smaller base stations 116, 118 and 120 may also be connected to the network 113, for example, by separate gateway functions and / or through a macro-level station controller. The base stations 116, 118 and 120 may be pico-level or femto-level base stations, etc. In this example, stations 116 and 118 are connected through the gateway 111, while station 120 is connected through the controller device 108. In some embodiments, smaller stations may not be provided.
[0079] In Figure 1, a beam 119 is shown diagrammatically between the UE 104 and the base station 120. The beam may also be referred to as a link, e.g., a radio link or a communication link. The beam 119 may include a channel. For example, the beam 119 may include an antenna radiation pattern used to transmit a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH).
[0080] Possible wireless communication devices will now be described in more detail with reference to FIG. 2, which shows a schematic partial cross-sectional view of a communication device 200. Such communication devices are often referred to as user equipment (UE) or user terminal. A suitable mobile communication device can be provided by any device capable of transmitting and receiving wireless signals. Non-limiting examples include mobile stations (MS) or mobile devices, such as mobile phones or what are known as "smartphones", computers equipped with wireless interface cards or other wireless interface facilities (e.g. USB dongles), personal data assistants (PDAs) or tablets provided with wireless communication capabilities, or any combination of these or the like. Mobile communication devices can provide communication of data, for example carrying voice, email, text messages, multimedia, and other communications. Users can thus be provided and offered a great number of services via their communication devices. Non-limiting examples of these services are two-way or multi-way calls, data communication services or multimedia services, or simply access to a data communication network system such as the Internet. Users can also be provided with broadcast or multicast data. Non-limiting examples of content include downloads, television and radio programs, videos, advertisements, various alerts, and other information.
[0081] A wireless communication device may be, for example, a mobile device, i.e., a device that is not fixed to a particular location, or may be a stationary device. A wireless device may or may not require human interaction for communication. In the present teachings, the term "UE" or "user" is used to refer to any type of wireless communication device.
[0082] The wireless device 200 can receive signals over the air or wireless interface 207 via suitable equipment for receiving wireless signals and can transmit signals via suitable equipment for transmitting wireless signals. In Fig. 2, a transceiver arrangement is shown diagrammatically by block 206. The transceiver arrangement 206 can be provided, for example, by a radio part and an associated antenna arrangement. The antenna arrangement can be located inside or outside the wireless device.
[0083] A wireless device is typically provided with at least one data processing entity 201, at least one memory 202 and possibly other components 203 used for the software and hardware assisted execution of the tasks that the wireless device is designed to perform. These tasks include controlling access to and communicating with access systems and other communication devices. The data processing, storage and other related control units may be provided on a suitable circuit board and / or in a chipset. This feature is indicated by reference numeral 204. The user may control the operation of the wireless device by a suitable user interface such as a keypad 205, voice commands, a touch screen or touch pad, or a combination of these or the like. A display 208, a speaker and a microphone may also be provided. Furthermore, wireless communication devices may be provided with suitable connectors (either wired or wireless) to other devices and / or for connecting external accessories, e.g. hands-free equipment, to the wireless communication device. The communication devices 102, 104, 105 may access the communication system based on various access techniques.
[0084] FIG. 3 shows an example of a control device of a communication system coupled to and / or for controlling stations of an access system, such as for example RAN nodes. Such stations are for example base stations, nodes of a core network or central units of a cloud architecture, such as gNB, MME or S-GW, scheduling entities, such as spectrum management entities, or servers or hosts. The control device can be integrated with nodes or modules of the core network or RAN, or can be external to those nodes or modules. In some embodiments, the base station comprises a separate control device unit or controller module. In other embodiments, the control device can be another network element, such as a radio network controller or a spectrum controller. In some embodiments, each base station can have such a control device and a control device provided in the radio network controller. The control device 300 can be configured to provide control over communications within a service area of the system. The control device 300 comprises at least one memory 301, at least one data processing unit 302, 303 and an input / output interface 304. Via this interface, the control device can be coupled to receivers and transmitters of the base stations. The receiver and / or transmitter may be implemented as a radio front end or a remote radio head. For example, the controller 300 or processor 201 may be configured to execute appropriate software code to provide the control functionality.
[0085] The logical architecture of the gNB may include a division into a central unit (CU) and a distributed unit (DU) (CU / DU division). The CU is a logical node that may include gNB functions such as user data forwarding, mobility control, radio access network sharing, positioning, session management, etc. Other functions may be assigned to the DU. In some examples, the DU is controlled by the CU. The manner in which the functions are divided between the CU and the DU may vary between implementations.
[0086] 3GPP currently specifies a beam (or link) failure recovery procedure. Beam recovery is sometimes called link reconfiguration. The purpose of beam recovery is to detect when one or more serving control channel (PDCCH) links are considered to be in a failed state and when the link is considered to be recovered. To recover the link, the UE may initiate signaling towards the network indicating the failure. The possible new link (beam) may be called a candidate link (candidate beam). In response to a beam failure recovery request received from the UE, the network may configure the UE with a new PDCCH link. Beam recovery is specified by 3GPP in specifications 38.213 and 38.321.
[0087] Some aspects and terminology that may be related to beam obstruction are discussed below.
[0088] Beam obstruction detection RS (reference signals) The network configures the UE with a set of reference signals to monitor the link quality. This set may be called "q0" or "Beam Failure Detection RS" or BFD-RS. Typically, the BFD-RS(s) are configured to be spatially quasi co-located (QCL) with the PDCCH DMRS (demodulation reference signal). That is, these reference signals correspond to the downlink beams used to transmit the PDCCH. The downlink beams can be identified by either the SS / PBCH (synchronization sequences / physical broadcast channel) block index or the CSI-RS (channel state information reference signal) resource index reference signal. The network may configure the BFD-RS list using radio resource control (RRC) signaling or may be able to define how to use the BFD-RS list using a combination of RRC and MAC CE signaling. In this case, the MAC CE may use a set or a subset of the RRC configured resources to act as a BFD-RS.
[0089] The UE may implicitly determine the BFD-RS resources when not explicitly configured with a BFD-RS list. For example, the UE may implicitly determine the BFD-RS resources, i.e., PDCCH DMRS and spatially QCLed downlink reference signals (CSI-RS, SS / PBCH blocks), i.e., PDCCH beams, based on the configured / indicated / activated PDCCH-TCI (transmission configuration indication) state per CORESET. The activated TCI state (used by the UE to monitor the PDCCH) is considered for beam failure detection, but judging failure based on all TCI states of the PDCCH is not precluded by this disclosure.
[0090] Beam obstruction declaration The physical layer can periodically evaluate the quality of the radio link (based on the BFD-RSs in the set of q0). The evaluation can be done for each BFD-RS. When the radio link state of each BFD-RS in the beam failure detection set is considered to be in a failed state, e.g., when the virtual PDCCH BLER (block error rate) estimated using the RS exceeds a configured threshold, a beam failure instance (BFI) indication is provided to the upper layer (MAC). One example of a BLER threshold can be the out-of-sync threshold used for radio link monitoring OOS / Qout=10%. The evaluation and indication can be done periodically. If at least one BFD-RS is not in a failed state, no indication is provided to the upper layer.
[0091] The MAC layer may implement a counter that counts BFI indications from the PHY layer and may declare a beam failure if the BFI counter reaches a maximum value or threshold (which may be configured by the network). This counter may be configured to be managed or monitored by or with a timer. For example, the timer is (re)started each time the MAC receives a BFI indication from the lower layer. When the timer expires, the BFI counter is reset (counter value is set to 0). Alternatively or additionally, the timer may be configured to manage the beam failure recovery procedure. The timer may be started upon detection of a beam failure and when the timer expires, the UE declares the beam failure recovery as unsuccessful. While the timer is running, the UE may attempt to recover the link.
[0092] Candidate RS (Beam) List The network can provide the UE with a list of candidate RSs for recovery, which can be indicated using a dedicated signal. For example, candidate beam L1-RSRP (reference signal received power) measurements can be provided to the MAC layer, which can make a new candidate selection and determine the uplink resources to indicate the new candidate to the network. The network can configure the UE with candidate beam-specific dedicated signaling resources (e.g., a set of physical random access channel (PRACH) resources). For example, the UE can indicate the new candidate by transmitting a preamble.
[0093] Beam obstruction recovery request The beam failure recovery procedure can be initiated when the UE declares a beam failure and the UE detects one or more new candidate beams based on L1 (Layer 1) measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP). A dedicated signal can be configured for each candidate RS in the candidate-beam-RS-list. A certain threshold can be configured so that if any of the new candidates (based on L1-RSRP measurements) are above the threshold, they can be indicated with a dedicated signal (set of resources in set q1). The designated signal can be from the PRACH pool (or PRACH preamble signal resource set or separate preamble resource configuration), which can be referred to as BFR resources or CFRA (Contention Free Random Access) resources for beam failure recovery (BFR). It should be noted that the beam recovery procedure is slightly different from the Random Access (RA) procedure with respect to the gNB response to the transmitted preamble. The UE selects a candidate beam from a set of candidates that can be indicated using a dedicated signal, and if no candidate beam exceeds a configured threshold (in terms of signal quality, e.g., RSRP), the UE can indicate a new candidate using contention-based signaling (CBRA (contention based random access) preamble resources are mapped to a specific downlink RS, e.g., SS / PBCH block / CSI-RS). The above-mentioned selection threshold can be configured as the RSRP threshold. Other thresholds, such as RSRQ, SINR, BLER, etc., can also be used.
[0094] The UE may monitor the network response to the BFRR (or BFRQ) during a beam recovery response window (similar to the RAR window) using the same beam alignment used to transmit the recovery signal (i.e., the same beam direction / spatial filter / antenna pattern used for TX is used for RX). The UE may expect the network to provide a response using the indicated downlink reference signal and a spatially QCLed beam.
[0095] If non-contention signaling is used for beam recovery purposes, the UE can expect that the network will respond to the UE with a C-RNTI (cell-RNTI) instead of a RA-RNTI (random access-RNTI) when a CFRA (contention free random access) procedure is used. If CBRA resources are used, the UE expects a response in the RA procedure as usual.
[0096] Currently, beam failure recovery (BFR) or link reconfiguration procedures are not different between a primary cell (Pcell) and a secondary cell (Scell) and can be applied to a serving cell. This can also be applied when the Scell also has a corresponding uplink carrier. If the UE has a corresponding UL carrier with a contention-based RACH configuration, the current BFR / link reconfiguration procedures can be directly applied. The presence of a Pcell and an Scell can occur when there is a UE configured with carrier aggregation. The UE can also be connected with dual or multiple connectivity, and the PCell may be referred to as a PSCell in a secondary node (SN). More generally, the PCell / PSCell or SCell can be referred to as a serving cell.
[0097] FIG. 4 illustrates an example of a UE 404 connected to a first base station 418 and a second base station 420. For example, the base station 418 may include a MN (Master Node) and the second base station 420 may include a SN (Secondary Node). In other words, the base station 418 may include a base station of a primary cell and the base station 420 may include a base station of a secondary cell. The UE 404 may be dual connected with the base station 418 and the base station 420. The UE 404 may be performing carrier aggregation with the base station 418 and the base station 420. It should be understood that the base station 418 and the base station 420 may also consist of only one base station serving the UE 404 in dual connection or carrier aggregation. A communication beam or link 419 is shown diagrammatically between the UE 404 and the base station 418. A communication beam or link 421 is shown diagrammatically between the UE 404 and the base station 420. It is understood that beam 419 and / or beam 421 may be impaired or blocked. This may be due to, for example, interference, sudden obstructions, etc. Some examples disclosed herein address the situation where beam 421 between UE 404 and secondary base station 420 is impaired or blocked. A timer in the UE is shown generally at 405.
[0098] Figure 5A illustrates BFD-RS configuration options considering a scenario where spatial QCL of BFD-RS across component carriers is assumed (CSI-RS, SS / PBCH blocks). As shown in schematic form in Figure 5A, there is a PCell with DL / UL (PCell has both downlink and uplink) 530, an Scell1 with only DL (Scell has no uplink) (i.e., first SCell) 532, and an Scell2 with only DL (i.e., second Scell) 534. CSI-RS symbol 536 corresponds to the Pcell BFD-RS beam 530, CSI-RS symbol 538 corresponds to the Scell1 BFD-RS beam 532, and CSI-RS symbol 540 corresponds to the Scell2 BFD-RS beam 534.
[0099] According to the example of FIG. 5A where cross-carrier spatial QCL is valid for the PCell and Scell(s) BFD-RS, beam failure can be detected in the BFD-RS resources (CSI-RS, SS / PBCH blocks) of the PCell, which may implicitly mean that all SCell(s) are in a beam failure state due to the spatial QCL assumptions of the reference signals used to evaluate the link quality.
[0100] On the other hand, if the spatial QCL assumption for BFD-RS is not valid across carriers (see FIG. 5B), the UE needs to be able to detect beam failure and perform recovery for each serving cell individually. As shown diagrammatically in FIG. 5B, there is a PCell DL / UL cell 542 and Scell1 is the DL cell 532. That is, there is no Scell2 as shown in FIG. 5A. CSI-RS symbol 546 corresponds to the PCell BFD-RS beam 542 and CSI-RS symbol 548 corresponds to the Scell1 BFD-RS beam 544.
[0101] The scenario in Figure 5B may occur, for example, when the Pcell is located in a different frequency range than the Scell. For example, the Pcell may be located in FR1 (frequency range 1, i.e., below 6 GHz) and the SCell may be configured to be downlink only in FR2 (greater than 6 GHz). Alternatively, both the PCell and the Scell may operate in the same FR, but the BFD-RS detection resources may be different due to the PDCCH TCI configuration (which is cell-specific). That is, there may be no correspondence between the failures of the Pcell and the SCell. The latter may occur especially when cells with multiple Transmission / Reception Points (TRPs) are deployed.
[0102] Without loss of generality, Figures 5A and 5B show a subset of possible configurations of carrier aggregation where the SCell has only a downlink. The present disclosure is not limited to such a case only. That is, the SCell may also have an uplink. Although PCell and SCell are discussed above, it is possible to assume that they refer only to serving cells, and that the above example can be used in a similar manner to the SCell failure and PCell recovery, for example, when the PCell has a failure and the SCell can be used for PCell recovery. The SCell may or may not have an uplink, and if an uplink is configured for the SCell, this uplink may or may not be used in a similar manner to the PCell uplink. As an example, a CFRA signal may be configured for the SCell uplink, but may not have CBRA resources configured. That is, beam failure recovery may not work in a similar manner to the PCell. In this case, if the SCell cannot indicate candidacy using CFRA resources on its respective uplink, it may need to indicate failure / recovery using the PCell uplink, in which case other signaling mechanisms such as MAC CE may need to be used, and the SCell CFRA signal may be configured on the PCell uplink.
[0103] The inventors have confirmed that when a UE triggers a BFR procedure on a SCell and signals a SCell BFR MAC CE or CFRA / CBRA preamble(s) to a network (NW), there is a problem that it is not established how this procedure is terminated, e.g., how this procedure is managed. The inventors have also confirmed that the UE cannot reliably determine whether the MAC CE reaches the NW or not, since the MAC CE is not protected or covered by the RLC ARQ (radio link control automatic repeat request) protocol, but only with HARQ (Hybrid ARQ) at the physical / MAC layer.
[0104] According to some examples, the UE starts a timer after transmitting a beam failure recovery request (BFRR) message for serving cell recovery. The BFRR can be included in the MAC CE. The MAC CE can also include information of at least one candidate beam to be added, i.e., what is called a candidate beam to replace the failed beam. Thus, in some examples, the information transmitted by the UE can include a Scell BFRR MAC CE with at least one candidate beam indicated in the MAC CE.
[0105] According to one example, when the timer is running, the UE transmits candidate beam information to the network. The candidate beam information may be transmitted to the network periodically. If it is determined by the UE that the UE has not received a beam failure recovery acknowledgement and / or new beam information from the network before the timer expires, the UE deactivates the cell associated with the beam failure. For example, if the UE does not receive a new BFD-RS and / or PDCCH TCI state configuration for the Scell before the timer expires, the UE may deactivate the Scell. Due to the deactivation, the UE may stop monitoring the SCell PDCCH and not start uplink transmission (control / data) as currently specified. In some examples, "deactivation" of a cell may mean that the connection to the cell is disconnected, but the configuration is not necessarily lost.
[0106] According to another example, if the UE determines that the UE has not received a beam failure recovery request acknowledgement and / or new beam information from the network before the timer expires, the UE retransmits the candidate beam information (e.g., a MAC CE having at least one candidate beam indicated in the MAC CE) to the network. For example, if the UE has not received a new BFD-RS and / or PDCCH TCI state configuration for the SCell before the timer expires, the UE retransmits the SCell BFRR MAC CE with updated candidate information. That is, in some examples, the candidate beam information in the retransmitted MAC CE may be different compared to the initially (or previously) transmitted MAC CE. That is, in some examples, the UE may transmit the updated candidate beam information to the network while the timer is running. In some examples, if the UE determines that the candidate information has changed, the UE may indicate the SCell BFRR MAC CE with the timer running. In one example, if the UE included multiple candidates in the report (e.g., MAC CE), updated candidate information is sent to the network only if all or (Nx) candidates have changed, where N is the number of candidates indicated and x is a configured or predefined number. Thus, (Nx) may be considered a threshold in some examples. In another example, if the highest reported RSRP value has changed by a value Y (i.e., a threshold amount that may be expressed as decibels in a logarithmic scale or watts in a linear scale) based on the new measurement, the UE triggers a new MAC CE to report according to the network configuration. Y may be configurable in some examples.
[0107] According to some examples, the timer and candidate reporting is stopped when the UE receives a new BFD-RS and / or PDCCH TCI state configuration for the failed SCell. In another example, the network deactivates the SCell by explicit signaling (with either a new candidate or no candidate) in response to the UE indication of beam failure. The UE can consider this as a successful completion of the SCell BFR.
[0108] According to some examples, the UE is also configured to handle the situation where there is no candidate beam available to replace the failed beam. When this occurs, the UE can indicate "no candidate" to the network. For example, this indication can be provided in the MAC CE. The timer can be restarted by the transmission of the MAC CE (or the determination that the transmission of the MAC CE was successful). In such an example, while the timer is running, the UE attempts to find a new candidate in the Scell. If a new candidate is found by the UE, the timer is canceled or reset and the MAC CE can be retransmitted with new candidate beam information (so that the timer can be started again). In some examples, a new candidate beam for the Scell can be found by RRC-level reconfiguration of a new CSI-RS / SS block in the Scell and measurements in the Scell. In some examples, this may not be visible to the MAC layer before L1 provides new measurements and indicates the candidate beam. Alternatively, in some examples, the timer can be canceled when a new PDCCH-TCI state is configured and / or activated by the MAC CE. When the timer expires, the Scell may be deactivated. In some examples, explicit deactivation of the Scell by the network also cancels the timer (which may be referred to as timer T1).
[0109] According to one example, when the network (gNB) deactivates the failed SCell, the UE determines that the beam failure recovery procedure is completed. The UE stops the procedure of transmitting the SCell BFR MAC CE or any random access procedure of transmitting the CFRA / CBRA preamble.
[0110] According to some examples, the handling of the cell deactivation timer when the beam failure recovery procedure is initiated is considered. The cell deactivation timer may be referred to as sCellDeactivationTimer. The sCellDeactivationTimer is the current timer in the MAC specification that controls the activation state of the SCell in the UE. If the sCellDeactivationTimer expires, the SCell is deactivated. As a result, in some examples, there may be two (or more) coexisting timers. The first timer (T1) may be the timer that is started in response to sending a beam failure report to the network, as described above. In some examples, the second timer (T2) is the sCellDeactivationTimer. In one example option, the expiration of the sCellDeactivationTimer cancels / stops the BFR procedure. In one example, this may be considered as an alternative implementation of timer T1. In another example option, the sCellDeactivationTimer timer can be stopped (which can include pausing or resetting) when the UE transmits a BFRR (preamble or MAC CE). This is because in some examples, even if the NW attempts to schedule the UE, the UE may not be able to decode the scheduling command in the failed serving cell, so the sCellDeactivationTimer does not restart in the UE. In some examples, the sCellDeactivationTimer can be restarted only after the beam failure recovery is successfully completed. Alternatively, the sCellDeactivationTimer is restarted only if the PDCCH in the failed serving cell indicates a scheduling command (i.e., an uplink grant or a downlink assignment).
[0111] 6 is a flow chart illustrating a method according to one example, although it will be appreciated that in other examples, the method may vary.
[0112] At S1, the UE determines that there is a communication beam failure. The beam failure may be determined / detected by the means described above, for example, by determining when the BFD-RS is deemed to be in a failed state. For example, the failure may be a failure of a communication beam between the UE and a secondary base station, where the UE was communicating with a primary base station and a secondary base station (e.g., was performing carrier aggregation).
[0113] At S2, the UE transmits a message indicating the communication beam failure to a network node, for example, the message may be transmitted to the serving cell using the uplink.
[0114] At S3, the UE starts a timer. In some examples, the timer is started simultaneously or approximately simultaneously with sending a message to the network indicating a communications beam failure.
[0115] In S4, the UE transmits information of candidate communication beams to replace the failed communication beam to the network node. In some examples, S4 can be included in S2. That is, the UE can transmit both information indicating the communication beam failure and information of the candidate communication beams.
[0116] At S5, a determination is made by the UE whether an acknowledgment has been received from the network node, which may be an acknowledgment of the information transmitted at S2 or of the information transmitted at S4.
[0117] If no acknowledgement is received, the method proceeds to S6 where it is determined whether the timer has expired.
[0118] If the timer expires (i.e., the timer expires and there is no acknowledgement, i.e., new TCI state or deactivated state), the method proceeds to S7, where the UE deactivates the cell, e.g., the UE deactivates the connection with the secondary base station associated with the beam failure.
[0119] If the timer has not expired, the method may loop back to S2 and / or S4.
[0120] If at S5 it is determined that an acknowledgment has been received at the UE from the network node, the method may proceed to S8, where the UE may initiate a new connection using one or more of the candidate communications beams, which may be between the UE and a base station associated with the communications beam failure or may be between the UE and a new base station.
[0121] 7 is a flow chart of a method according to an example, the method of FIG. 7 being seen from the perspective of a device, e.g., a user equipment.
[0122] At S1, the method includes initiating a beam recovery procedure by transmitting a message to a third device in response to determining a failure of one or more communications beams between the device and the second device, the message including information of the failure of the one or more communications beams.
[0123] At S2, the method includes starting a timer in response to sending the message to the third device.
[0124] At S3, the method includes determining whether a beam failure acknowledgement is received from the third device before the timer expires.
[0125] Figure 8 is a flow chart of a method according to an example, which is seen from the perspective of a device, for example a network node.
[0126] At S1, the method includes receiving, from the user equipment, information of communication beam obstructions of one or more communication beams between the user equipment and the base station.
[0127] At S2, the method includes transmitting an acknowledgment of receipt of the communication beam obstruction information to the user equipment.
[0128] According to some examples, a newly defined timer can ensure that the UE takes action to retransmit the MAC CE if it is lost over the air, or the UE can deactivate the failed SCell(s) itself so as not to trigger further beam failure reporting procedures, e.g., if the network is busy reconfiguring or taking other actions.
[0129] The timer allows the UE a time window to find a new candidate beam immediately after indicating a beam failure. Thus, instead of experiencing a failure and then performing additional measurements to find a new candidate, the UE can indicate failure quickly. In some examples, indicating beam failure without a new candidate may allow the network to configure a new CSI-RS for candidate beam detection in the SCell after indicating failure in some cases.
[0130] In some examples, the network may not have knowledge of the UE beam failure in the SCell, and therefore it is beneficial to report the UE beam failure quickly while the UE can continue searching for candidates. In such examples, the network can suspend any data transmission in the SCell while the UE performs candidate searching. This can reduce signaling overhead and save radio resources.
