Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus including a belt conveying device that drives and conveys an intermediate transfer belt that is stretched by a plurality of tension rollers. [Background technology]

[0002] Conventionally, in electrophotographic image forming apparatuses, an intermediate transfer type configuration is known in which a toner image formed on a photoconductor is primarily transferred to an intermediate transfer belt, and the toner image carried on the intermediate transfer belt is then secondarily transferred to a recording material. In such an image forming apparatus using an intermediate transfer belt, the intermediate transfer belt may cause image defects due to resistance fluctuations and surface deterioration caused by continuous use, etc. Therefore, when the intermediate transfer belt reaches the end of its specified life, it is necessary to replace it with a new one in order to maintain the desired image quality.

[0003] Therefore, when replacing the intermediate transfer belt, the belt conveying device is pulled out along a guide rail provided in the image forming device. The belt conveying device is provided with positioning members for positioning the belt conveying device at both ends in the belt width direction. A pair of positioning members is provided on each of the upstream and downstream sides in the insertion direction of the belt conveying device. The belt conveying device can be pulled out by pulling out the positioning members along the guide rail. In addition, it is preferable to provide the belt conveying device with a regulating member for regulating the attitude of the belt conveying device in order to prevent the attitude of the belt conveying device from changing when the belt conveying device is attached to or detached from the image forming device, causing the belt to come into contact with surrounding members and thus be damaged.

[0004] In Patent Document 1, guide ribs are provided upstream and downstream in the installation direction of the belt conveyor. Furthermore, the posture of the belt conveyor is regulated by the guide rib downstream in the installation direction of the belt conveyor. Also, a configuration is disclosed in which the guide rib is guided by guide rails arranged above and below. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0005] [Patent Document 1] JP 2018-169606 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0006] However, as described above, in the case of a configuration in which a positioning member for a belt conveying device and a regulating member for regulating the attitude of the belt conveying device are pulled out by guide rails arranged above and below as in Patent Document 1, the device tends to become large in the vertical direction.

[0007] The frame of the belt conveying device is arranged in a cross section stretched by the belt (hereinafter also referred to as a belt stretching cross section) when viewed from the belt width direction, taking into consideration the ease of belt replacement. This is to prevent interference with the main body frame of the belt conveying device when the belt is pulled out in the belt width direction during belt replacement. For this reason, the pair of positioning parts described above are often arranged in the belt stretching cross section. In this case, when the belt conveying device is pulled out from the image forming device, the movement trajectory of the belt passes through a space further above the guide rail (called the upper guide rail) that guides the regulating member. For this reason, a space is required to pull out the belt conveying device further above the upper guide rail, which leads to an increase in the size of the device. Therefore, it is conceivable to arrange the regulating member guided by the upper guide rail and the pair of positioning members above the belt stretching cross section, and to position the movement trajectory of the belt below the upper guide rail.

[0008] However, in this case, the regulating member and the positioning member get in the way when the belt is pulled out in the width direction during belt replacement. In addition, although it is possible to detach the positioning member from the frame of the belt conveying device during belt replacement, this reduces the positioning accuracy.

[0009] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a detachable belt conveying device, which can achieve both miniaturization of the apparatus and improved positioning accuracy while suppressing damage to the belt when the belt conveying device is attached or detached. [Means for solving the problem]

[0010] In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the present invention provides an image forming apparatus including an image carrier that carries a toner image, an image forming unit that forms the toner image on the image carrier, and a toner image forming unit that transfers the toner image formed on the image carrier. between A belt conveying device including a transfer belt and detachably provided in a width direction perpendicular to a moving direction of the intermediate transfer belt and in a direction intersecting a vertical direction; and a pair of regulating units provided in the belt conveying device and capable of regulating a position of the intermediate transfer belt. , painting In an image forming device having a regulating engagement portion provided in a main body of the image forming device and engaging with the pair of regulating portions to regulate the posture of the intermediate transfer belt at least when the belt conveying device is pulled out to a predetermined position of the image forming device, one of the pair of regulating portions is supported movably between a first position where at least a portion of the regulating portion is positioned outside the tension area defined by the tensioned intermediate transfer belt when viewed from the width direction of the intermediate transfer belt, and a second position where the one regulating portion is inside the tension area. The above object can be achieved by another image forming apparatus according to the present invention. In summary, the image forming apparatus includes an image carrier for carrying a toner image, an image forming section for forming the toner image on the image carrier, and a toner image transfer section for transferring the toner image formed on the image carrier. between A belt conveying device including a transfer belt and detachably provided in a width direction perpendicular to a moving direction of the intermediate transfer belt and in a direction intersecting a vertical direction; and a pair of regulating units provided in the belt conveying device and capable of regulating a position of the intermediate transfer belt. , paintingThe image forming apparatus is characterized in that it has a regulating engagement portion provided in a main body of the image forming apparatus, which engages with the pair of regulating portions to regulate the posture of the intermediate transfer belt at least when the belt conveying device is pulled out to a predetermined position of the image forming apparatus, and at least a portion of one of the pair of regulating portions is positioned outside the tension area defined by the tensioned intermediate transfer belt when viewed from the width direction of the intermediate transfer belt, and the one regulating portion is provided so as to be detachable from the belt conveying device. Effect of the Invention

[0011] According to the present invention, in an image forming apparatus equipped with a detachable belt conveying device, it is possible to provide an image forming apparatus that can achieve both miniaturization of the apparatus and improved positioning accuracy while suppressing damage to the belt when the belt conveying device is attached or detached. [0013] Hereinafter, a belt conveying device and an image forming apparatus according to the present disclosure will be described with reference to the drawings. EXAMPLES

[0014] 1, the image forming apparatus 200 according to this embodiment is a so-called intermediate transfer tandem type printer that includes four image forming sections Pa, Pb, Pc, and Pd and an intermediate transfer unit 20 inside an apparatus main body 201. The image forming apparatus 200 forms and outputs an image on a recording material S based on image information read from an original or image information input from an external device. Note that the recording material S includes, in addition to plain paper, special paper such as coated paper, paper with a special shape such as an envelope or index paper, plastic film for an overhead projector, cloth, etc.

[0015] The image forming sections Pa, Pb, Pc, and Pd are image forming units that form yellow, magenta, cyan, and black toner images, and are equipped with photosensitive drums 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d, respectively, which are image carriers for electrophotography. The configurations of the image forming sections are basically the same except for the color of the toner used for development, so the following description will be given taking the configuration of the yellow image forming section Pa as an example.

[0016] The image forming section Pa includes a charging device 2, an exposure device 3, a developing device 4, and a drum cleaner 6 around the photosensitive drum 1a, which is a drum-shaped photosensitive member. When an image forming operation starts, the photosensitive drum 1a is rotated and the surface of the photosensitive drum 1a is uniformly charged by the charging device 2, and then an electrostatic latent image is formed on the drum surface by the exposure device 3. The electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive drum 1a is visualized (developed) into a toner image by supplying yellow toner from the developing device 4, which contains a developer inside a developing container 41. That is, the charging device 2, the exposure device 3, and the developing device 4 constitute a toner image forming means that forms a toner image on the photosensitive drum 1a as an image carrier.

[0017] The device main body 201 is detachably mounted with developer containers Ta, Tb, Tc, and Td for accommodating replenishment developers. For example, the developer container Ta accommodates developer containing yellow toner, and the developer container 41 is appropriately replenished with the developer through the replenishment device 70a. As the developer, a two-component developer containing a magnetic carrier and non-magnetic toner, a one-component developer composed of magnetic toner, or a liquid developer in which toner particles are dispersed in a carrier liquid can be used.

[0018] The intermediate transfer unit 20 includes an intermediate transfer belt 7, which is an endless belt member, and a plurality of roller members (8, 17, 18, 19) around which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched. The intermediate transfer belt 7 is wound around a secondary transfer inner roller 8, a steering roller 17, a separation roller 19, and an upstream guide roller 18, and its outer circumferential surface faces the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d of the image forming units Pa to Pd. Primary transfer rollers 5a, 5b, 5c, and 5d, which are an example of a primary transfer means, are disposed on the inner circumferential side of the intermediate transfer belt 7. The primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d are disposed at positions corresponding to the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d of the image forming units Pa to Pd, respectively, and form primary transfer units T1a, T1b, T1c, and T1d where toner images are transferred from the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d to the intermediate transfer belt 7.

[0019] The intermediate transfer belt 7 rotates in a direction (arrow R7) accompanying the rotation (arrows R1, R2, R3, R4) of the photosensitive drums 1a-1d of each of the image forming stations Pa-Pd as the secondary transfer inner roller 8 is rotated in a predetermined direction (arrow R8) by a motor (not shown). In other words, the secondary transfer inner roller is a drive roller that drives the intermediate transfer belt 7. The secondary transfer inner roller 8 faces the secondary transfer outer roller 9 with the intermediate transfer belt 7 in between, and a secondary transfer portion T2 is formed as a nip portion between the secondary transfer inner roller 8 and the secondary transfer outer roller 9.

[0020] The upstream guide roller 18 is disposed upstream of the secondary transfer inner roller 8 and downstream of the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d in the rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 7, and guides the intermediate transfer belt 7 so that the intermediate transfer belt 7 enters the secondary transfer section T2 from a fixed direction. The steering roller 17 has a centering function for controlling the position of the intermediate transfer belt 7 in the width direction, as will be described later in detail. The separation roller 19 is disposed downstream of the steering roller 17 and upstream of the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d in the rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 7. The primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d and the separation roller 19 can be moved by a separation mechanism described later to change the tension state of the intermediate transfer belt 7 and separate the outer circumferential surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7 from a part or all of the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d.

[0021] The toner images formed on the photosensitive drums 1a-1d at the image forming stations Pa-Pd by the same image forming operation as described above are primarily transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 7 at the primary transfer stations T1a-T1d by electrostatic bias applied to the primary transfer rollers 5a-5d. At this time, when a color image is formed, the toner images carried on the photosensitive drums 1a-1d are multi-transferred so that they are superimposed on each other. Adherents such as transfer residual toner remaining on the photosensitive drums 1a-1d after passing through the primary transfer stations T1a-T1d are removed by a drum cleaner 6.

[0022] The toner image carried on the intermediate transfer belt 7 is secondarily transferred to the recording material S at the secondary transfer portion T2 by applying an electrostatic bias to the secondary transfer outer roller 9. Adherents such as transfer residual toner remaining on the intermediate transfer belt 7 after passing through the secondary transfer portion T2 are removed by a belt cleaning device 11.

[0023] In parallel with this image forming operation, a recording material S set in a feeding cassette 60 is fed by a feeding means 61 such as a feeding roller toward a pair of registration rollers 62. The pair of registration rollers 62 corrects skew of the recording material S, and sends the recording material S to a secondary transfer portion T2 in accordance with the progress of the image forming operation by the image forming portions Pa, Pb, Pc, and Pd.

[0024] The recording material S onto which the unfixed toner image has been transferred in the secondary transfer portion T2 is delivered to the fixing device 13. The fixing device 13 has a heating roller 14 heated by a heat source such as a halogen heater, and an opposing roller 15 pressed against the heating roller 14, and applies heat and pressure to the toner image while sandwiching and transporting the recording material S. As a result, the toner particles are melted and fixed, and the image is fixed to the recording material S. The recording material S that has passed through the fixing device 13 is discharged to a discharge tray 63 provided on the upper part of the apparatus main body 201. In addition, when performing double-sided printing, the recording material S in a state in which the first side (front side) and the second side (back side) are switched is re-conveyed to the registration roller pair 62 via a reversing conveying path (not shown). Then, the recording material S with the image formed on the back side after passing through the secondary transfer portion T2 and the fixing device 13 is discharged to the discharge tray 63.

[0025] An operation display unit 40 serving as a user interface is provided on the top surface of the device body 201. The operation display unit 40 includes a liquid crystal panel capable of displaying current setting information and the like, and various buttons and the like through which the user can input information, and for example, allows the user to set the output image to be switched between a color image and a monochrome image. The device body 201 also includes a central processing unit (CPU) 50 that controls the overall operation of the image forming device 200 based on information input via the operation display unit 40.

[0026] [Intermediate transfer unit] Next, we will explain the internal configuration of the intermediate transfer unit 20, which is an example of a belt conveying device, and the configuration for steering the intermediate transfer belt 7. Fig. 2(a) is a perspective view of the intermediate transfer unit 20, Fig. 2(a) shows a state in which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched, and Fig. 2(b) shows a state in which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is removed.

[0027] As shown in FIGS. 2(a) and 2(b), the intermediate transfer unit 20 includes a transfer frame 21 supported by transfer rails 78F and 78R, which are guide members described later. The transfer frame 21 includes first positioning portions 21f and 21r and second positioning portions 21a and 21b for mounting the intermediate transfer unit 20 to the transfer rails 78F and 78R. The first positioning portions 21f and 21r and the second positioning portions 21a and 21b are integrally formed with the transfer frame 21 and are immovably fixed to the transfer frame 21. In the mounted state of the intermediate transfer unit 20, the first positioning portions 21f and 21r are disposed symmetrically and are configured coaxially with the inner secondary transfer roller 8. The first positioning portions 21f and 21r are disposed outside the drive coupling 22 in the radial direction of the inner secondary transfer roller 8, and are disposed so as to surround the periphery of the drive coupling 22 when viewed from the axial direction of the inner secondary transfer roller 8. The second positioning parts 21a and 21b are also arranged symmetrically (coaxially), and the intermediate transfer unit 20 is attached to the device body 201 by four positioning parts including the first positioning parts 21f and 21r, forming the cross section of the image forming device 200 shown in Fig. 1. In this embodiment, the first positioning parts 21f and 21r are arranged outside the drive coupling 22 in the radial direction of the secondary transfer inner roller 8, so that the vertical width of the first positioning parts 21f and 21r is configured to be larger than the vertical width of the second positioning parts 21a and 21b. The third positioning parts 21c and 28c are configured symmetrically on the transfer frame 21 and the positioning plate 28, but their functions will be described later.

[0028] The secondary transfer inner roller 8, the upstream guide roller 18, and the separation roller 19 are each supported rotatably at both axial ends thereof by being sandwiched between the transfer frame 21. Hereinafter, the axial direction of these rollers 8, 18, and 19 will be referred to as the width direction W of the intermediate transfer belt 7. In addition, an automatic belt centering mechanism 17U including the steering roller 17, which will be described later, is supported by a steering support portion 21s provided on the transfer frame 21.

[0029] A drive coupling 22 is attached to one end of the inner secondary transfer roller 8 in the axial direction. The drive coupling 22 is connected to an output shaft of a belt drive unit (not shown) when the intermediate transfer unit 20 is attached to the main body 201 of the apparatus, and transmits the drive force of the belt drive unit to the inner secondary transfer roller 8. The belt drive unit includes a drive source such as a motor and a coupling member that engages with the drive coupling 22, and is mounted on the main body 201 of the apparatus. The surface of the inner secondary transfer roller 8 is made of a material with a relatively high friction coefficient such as rubber, and the roller surface drives the intermediate transfer belt 7 to be conveyed in the direction of the arrow R7 in FIG. 2(a) by transmitting the drive force. In this embodiment, the drive coupling 22 is used as the drive transmission means, but the drive source of the main body 201 of the apparatus and the intermediate transfer unit 20 may be connected to each other using, for example, a gear that can be engaged or disengaged.

[0030] In this embodiment, the intermediate transfer belt 7 is driven and transported as described above, and is equipped with an automatic belt centering mechanism in which the steering roller 17 can center (steer) the belt by itself maintaining the frictional force balance at both ends, that is, can control the position in the width direction.

[0031] The configuration of the automatic belt centering mechanism 17U, which is an example of a steering mechanism, will be described below with reference to Figures 3 and 4. Figure 3 is a perspective view for explaining the automatic belt centering mechanism 17U, and Figure 4 is a perspective view of the automatic belt centering mechanism 17U.

[0032] 3, the steering roller 17 has a cylindrical roller body 17a and a roller shaft 17b protruding from the roller body 17a on both axial sides. Steering bearings 23 are disposed at positions facing both axial ends of the steering roller 17. Each roller shaft 17b is rotatably supported by the steering bearings 23 by being inserted into a support hole 23a provided in the corresponding steering bearing 23.

[0033] The pair of steering bearings 23 are attached to a swing plate 26 in a state where they support both axial ends of a steering roller 17, which is one of a plurality of tension rollers around which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched. Each steering bearing 23 is slidably supported by slide guides 24 attached to both ends of the swing plate 26. Between the steering bearing 23 and the slide guide 24, a tension spring 25, which is a compression spring, is provided in a contracted state.

[0034] The rocking plate 26 is an example of a rocking member that rocks the steering roller 17 to support the steering roller 17 in a state in which the relative alignment with the secondary transfer inner roller 8 can be changed. The tension spring 25 is an example of a biasing member that applies tension acting on the inner circumference of the intermediate transfer belt 7 to the steering roller 17. That is, the tension spring 25, which is the biasing member of this embodiment, is made up of a pair of spring members that apply biasing forces to the pair of steering bearings 23 at both ends of the rocking plate 26, respectively.

[0035] As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the slide guide 24 has a fitting groove that guides the steering bearing 23 to move in the pressure direction of the tension spring 25 (the direction of the arrow K1). In other words, the slide guide 24 constitutes a guide portion that guides the pair of steering bearings 23 in the biasing direction of the tension spring 25. The slide guide 24 also has a stopper (not shown) that can restrict the movement of the steering bearing 23 in the pressure direction of the tension spring 25. This stopper prevents the steering bearing 23 and the steering roller 17 from falling off in an assembled state in which the automatic belt centering mechanism 17U is not yet attached to the intermediate transfer unit 20. With this configuration, the biasing force of the tension springs 25 at both ends can be effectively transmitted to the corresponding steering bearings 23.

[0036] 2(a), when the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched around the steering roller 17 and the other roller members (8, 18, 19), the steering bearing 23 moves in a direction that compresses the tension spring 25 beyond the position regulated by the stopper. Therefore, in this state, the steering roller 17 is pressed against the inner circumferential surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7 by the elastic force of the tension spring 25, and tension is generated in the intermediate transfer belt 7. That is, the steering roller 17 of this embodiment also serves as a tension roller that applies an appropriate tension to the intermediate transfer belt 7 by the biasing force from the biasing member.

[0037] 3, a rocking plate 26 as a rocking member has a pivot shaft member 27 as a support shaft fixed to the center in the width direction with the pivot shaft member 27 protruding rearward in the figure, and slide guides 24 are fixed to both ends. The pivot shaft member 27 is rotatably fitted to the steering support portion 21 provided on the transfer frame 21, thereby supporting the rocking plate 26 so that it can rotate (rock).

[0038] As a result, the swing plate 26 can swing in a swing direction Ro about a steering axis J, which is the axis of the rotating shaft member 27, while supporting the steering roller 17. In other words, the automatic belt centering mechanism 17U, which is an example of an alignment changing means for changing the alignment of the belt member, is configured as a unit that can swing together with the steering roller 17 with respect to the frame of the intermediate transfer unit 20.

[0039] [Operating principle of automatic belt alignment mechanism] Next, the detailed configuration and operation of the automatic belt centering mechanism in this embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 4 and 5. Figures 5(a) and 5(b) are plan views (top views) from the viewpoint facing the direction of the arrow TV in Figure 2. Figure 5(a) shows a steady state in which the forces in the width direction acting on the intermediate transfer belt 7 by the action of the automatic belt centering mechanism 17U are balanced, that is, the state in which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is wound at the nominal position. Figure 5(b) shows a state in which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is shifted to the left side in the figure when it is transported in the direction of the arrow R7.

[0040] As shown in Fig. 4, the steering bearing 23 supporting the roller shaft 17b has a friction surface 231 for generating a steering torque by sliding against the inner peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7. Here, the steering torque refers to the moment of a force that tries to change the alignment of the steering roller 17 in a direction that can reduce the deviation of the intermediate transfer belt 7. As described above, the movement direction of the steering bearing 23 is limited by the slide guide 24 so that the steering bearing 23 moves in the direction of the arrow K1. Therefore, the steering bearing 23, which is an example of a friction part, does not move when the intermediate transfer belt 7 is driven to be transported in the direction of the arrow R7, but slides against the inner peripheral surface of the belt.

[0041] The rubbing surface 231 is formed in a tapered shape such that the outer diameter gradually increases toward the outer side in the axial direction of the steering roller 17, and has a maximum diameter larger than the outer diameter of the cylindrical steering roller 17. As shown in FIG. 5(b), in the present embodiment, the outer diameter of the steering roller 17 is set to, for example, φ16 (16 mm). The rubbing surface 231 of the steering bearing 23 has a circumferential outer peripheral portion of the same φ16 at the joint portion with the steering roller 17, and exhibits a curved surface shape that gradually increases in diameter outward from this outer peripheral portion at a taper angle ψ = 10°.

[0042] Also, in the present embodiment, the dimension in the width direction of the intermediate transfer belt 7, that is, the direction orthogonal to the conveyance driving direction (arrow R7 direction) is set so as to partially straddle the region of the rubbing surface 231 having the taper angle ψ. In other words, the width Lb of the intermediate transfer belt 7 is set to be longer than the axial length (Lr) of the roller body of the steering roller 17 and shorter than the width (Lr + 2Lf) between both ends of the steering bearings 23, 23 (Lr < Lb < L + 2Lf). However, Lf is the length in the width direction of the rubbing surface 231 of each steering bearing 23.

[0043] The operating principle that enables automatic belt centering when the intermediate transfer belt 7 rubs against the steering bearing 23 will be described with reference to FIG. 5. As described above, since the steering bearing 23 is supported in a non-driven manner with respect to the intermediate transfer belt 7, it can be in sliding contact with the inner peripheral surface of the belt during the conveyance driving of the intermediate transfer belt 7. At this time, since the frictional force is generated in the region where the intermediate transfer belt 7 is wound around the steering bearing 23, that is, in the right region where the intermediate transfer belt 7 faces downward when viewed from the direction of arrow G in FIG. 4, a downward frictional force acts on the steering bearing 23.

[0044] As described above, the widthwise dimension (Lb) of the intermediate transfer belt 7 is set so as to straddle the tapered sliding surface 231 of the steering bearing 23. Therefore, in the steady state (nominal state) shown in Fig. 5(a), the intermediate transfer belt 7 rubs against the sliding surfaces 231 of the steering bearings 23 on both sides with the same overlapping width (e.g., 2 mm). In this state, the moments generated by the frictional forces acting from the intermediate transfer belt 7 on the steering bearings 23 on both sides cancel each other out.

[0045] That is, the frictional force that each steering bearing 23 receives from the intermediate transfer belt 7 acts on the steering bearing 23 and the rocking plate 26 as moments in opposite directions centered on the steering axis J. Therefore, in the steady state shown in Fig. 5(a), the frictional forces that each steering bearing 23 receives are approximately equal, and the moments cancel each other out, maintaining the position of the rocking plate 26. As a result, the steering roller 17 is maintained in a position in which the axial direction is approximately parallel to other roller members such as the inner secondary transfer roller 8 (aligned state).

[0046] 5(b), in a state where the intermediate transfer belt 7 is biased to one side in the width direction, that is, where a so-called "shift" occurs, the width of the intermediate transfer belt 7 over one steering bearing 23 becomes larger than the width of the intermediate transfer belt 7 over the other steering bearing 23. In the example shown in the figure, the width of the intermediate transfer belt 7 over the steering bearing 23 on the left side in the figure is D [mm], and the width of the intermediate transfer belt 7 over the steering bearing 23 on the right side in the figure is 0, that is, the intermediate transfer belt 7 is separated from the sliding surface 231.

[0047] In this case, if the vertically downward frictional force that the sliding surface 231 receives from the intermediate transfer belt 7 over a certain range of the width of the friction is F(ST), the magnitude of the force that one steering bearing 23 receives is F(ST)*D. On the other hand, since the width of the other steering bearing 23 is 0, the steering bearing 23 receives substantially no force from the intermediate transfer belt 7. Therefore, in the situation shown in Fig. 5(b), a steering torque that moves the left end of the steering roller 17 downward (toward the back in the figure) is generated.

[0048] The steering angle of the steering roller 17 generated by the above principle, i.e., the inclination angle of the steering roller 17 in a state where it is swung according to the steering torque, matches the direction in which the deviation of the intermediate transfer belt 7 is returned to its original state, and the deviation of the intermediate transfer belt 7 is reduced as the belt is conveyed. That is, the automatic belt alignment mechanism 17U exhibits an automatic alignment effect that controls the position of the intermediate transfer belt 7 in the width direction by converting a part of the driving force that drives the intermediate transfer belt 7 to be conveyed into a steering torque.

[0049] In this embodiment, the steering bearing 23 is provided with a taper angle ψ, and a relatively low friction coefficient μS is set to avoid abrupt steering operation. Specifically, a resin material such as POM (polyacetal) having sliding properties (low friction) is used as the material of the steering bearing 23, and the friction coefficient μS is set to about 0.3 and the taper angle ψ is set to about 5 to 10°, so that good results can be obtained. Furthermore, in consideration of electrostatic adverse effects due to frictional charging with the intermediate transfer belt 7, the steering bearing 23 is also provided with electrical conductivity. However, as long as the required steering torque is obtained, the taper angle ψ and the sliding properties may be different, and for example, the sliding surface 231 of the steering bearing 23 may be cylindrical.

[0050] [Intermediate transfer belt separation mechanism] Next, a configuration for enabling the intermediate transfer belt 7 to be separated from the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d will be described with reference to Figs. 6 and 7. Fig. 6 shows the separation slider 30 as viewed from the front side. Fig. 7(a) shows the intermediate transfer unit 20 in color mode (hereinafter, CL mode), Fig. 7(b) shows the monochrome mode (hereinafter, BK mode), and Fig. 7(c) shows the full separation mode.

[0051] As described above, the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d facing the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d of the image forming stations Pa to Pd, respectively, are disposed on the inner circumferential side of the intermediate transfer belt 7 (see FIG. 1). In this embodiment, the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d and the separation roller 19 positioned upstream of the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d are movable relative to the frame of the intermediate transfer unit 20.

[0052] The primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d and the separating roller 19 are moved by the sliding action of the separating sliders 30 shown in Fig. 6. The separating sliders 30 are respectively housed inside the transfer frame 21 (see Fig. 2) of the intermediate transfer unit 20, and all have the same shape. That is, each separating slider 30 has four cam surfaces 30a, 30b, 30c, and 30d corresponding to the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d, and a cam surface 30e corresponding to the separating roller 19. The two separating sliders 30 slide in synchronization with the transfer frame 21, with the movement direction being the left-right direction in the figure.

[0053] Each of the cam surfaces 30a to 30e has an inclined surface inclined with respect to the sliding direction of the spacing slider 30, and is formed to achieve the operation of each roller (5a to 5d, 19) in the following mode switching. For example, the cam surface 30e corresponding to the spacing roller 19 includes an inclined surface 301 corresponding to the lower position of the spacing roller 19 and a flat portion 302 corresponding to the upper position of the spacing roller 19.

[0054] 7, the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d are rotatably supported at both axial ends by corresponding primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d. The primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d are disposed on both axial ends of the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d, and are each supported by a transfer frame 21. All of the primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d are held by the transfer frame 21 in a state in which they are fitted so as to be movable in the up-down direction in the figure, and movement in the direction along the transport direction of the intermediate transfer belt 7 (arrow R7) is restricted.

[0055] Each of the primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d is provided with abutment portions 29a1 to 29d1 that abut against the cam surfaces 30a to 30d of the separation slider 30. In addition, primary transfer springs SPa to SPd that urge the primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d downward in the figure so as to press the primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d against the cam surfaces 30a to 30d are provided between the primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d and the transfer frame 21. When the separation slider 30 slides, the primary transfer bearings 29a to 29d move in the up-down direction in the figure with the abutment portions 29a1 to 29d1 in contact with the cam surfaces 30a to 30d, and the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d move.

[0056] The spacing roller 19 is also provided with a movement configuration similar to that of the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d. That is, the spacing roller 19 is rotatably supported at both ends in the axial direction by spacing roller bearings 29e arranged on both sides in the axial direction. Each spacing roller bearing 29e is held by the transfer frame 21 in a state in which it can move in the vertical direction in the figure, and movement in the direction along the conveying direction (arrow R7) of the intermediate transfer belt 7 is restricted. In addition, the spacing roller bearing 29e has an abutment portion 29e1 that abuts against the cam surface 30e of the spacing slider 30, and is pressed against the cam surface 30e by the spacing roller spring SPe. When the spacing slider 30 slides, the spacing roller bearing 29e moves in the vertical direction in the figure with the abutment portion e1 abutting against the cam surface 30e, and the spacing roller 19 moves.

[0057] The separation slider 30 has a slide biasing surface 30f (see FIG. 6) that engages with a separation cam 31 attached to a separation cam shaft 32, and is biased in the left-right direction in the figure by the separation cam 31 pressing the slide biasing surface 30f. A separation coupling 33 (see FIG. 2) that is drivingly connected to a drive source mounted in the image forming apparatus main body 201 is attached to the axial end of the separation cam shaft 32 in a state in which the intermediate transfer unit 20 is attached to the apparatus main body 201.

[0058] The spacing slider 30 corresponds to a movable member that is movable in a direction intersecting the moving direction (the vertical direction in FIG. 7) of the spacing roller bearing 29e that corresponds to the bearing member in this embodiment. Also, the spacing roller spring SPe corresponds to a biasing means for biasing the bearing member toward the cam surface to make the bearing member follow the cam surface.

[0059] In this embodiment, the primary transfer rollers 5a-5d and the separating roller 19 are moved by the separating mechanism 30A including the separating slider 30 and the separating cam 31, and the mode switching shown in each diagram in Fig. 7 is performed. The following mode switching is achieved by controlling the rotation phase of the separating cam shaft 32 based on a control signal from the CPU 50 (Fig. 1) mounted on the image forming apparatus 200. Also, the operation of switching from the CL mode to the BK mode to the full separating mode in this order will be described as an example, but any mode can be switched by following the operation in reverse.

[0060] 7(a), the primary transfer rollers 5a-5d and the separation roller 19 are all held in the lower position, and the intermediate transfer belt 7 is in contact with the photosensitive drums 1a-1d (see FIG. 1) of the image forming stations Pa-Pd. In this state, the image forming stations Pa-Pd are caused to perform image forming operations, and the toner images formed on the photosensitive drums 1a-1d are transferred to the recording material via the intermediate transfer belt 7, thereby forming a full-color image on the recording material.

[0061] When switching from the CL mode to the BK mode shown in FIG. 7(b), the separation cam 31 rotates 90 degrees in the direction of the arrow R9, and the separation slider 30 slides toward the right in the figure (arrow K2). In the BK mode, the cyan, magenta, and yellow primary transfer rollers 5a, 5b, and 5c move to the upper position and separate from the inner circumferential surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7, and the separation roller 19 also moves to the upper position. At this time, the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched between the separation roller 19 at the upper position and the black primary transfer roller 5d that is held at the lower position, and is separated from the photosensitive drums 1a, 1b, and 1c other than the black. In this state, the black image forming unit Pd is caused to perform an image forming operation, and the toner image formed on the photosensitive drum 1d is transferred to the recording material via the intermediate transfer belt 7, so that a monochrome image can be formed on the recording material.

[0062] When switching from the BK mode to the full separation mode shown in FIG. 7(c), the separation cam 31 rotates another 90 degrees in the direction of the arrow R9, and the separation slider 30 slides toward the right in the figure (arrow K2). In the full separation mode, all the primary transfer rollers 5a to 5d move to the upper stage position and separate from the inner circumferential surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7, and the separation roller 19 remains in the upper stage position. At this time, the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched between the separation roller 19 in the upper stage position and the upstream guide roller 18 (see FIG. 1), and is separated from all the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d. The intermediate transfer unit 20 is controlled to be in the full separation mode when the intermediate transfer belt 7 is replaced as described below, or when the image forming apparatus 200 is waiting for a signal (print job) instructing the start of an image forming operation.

[0063] The separating roller 19 is an example of a roller member around which the belt member is stretched, and the lower position (FIG. 7(a)) corresponds to the first position, and the upper position (FIG. 7(c)) corresponds to the second position, which is moved to the inner periphery side of the belt member compared to the first position. The separating mechanism 30A is an example of a moving mechanism that moves such a roller member to the first position and the second position. The CL mode corresponds to the first state in which the belt member abuts against the image carrier, and the full separating mode corresponds to the second state in which the belt member is separated from the image carrier. Moreover, the BK mode corresponds to the third state in which the belt member abuts against some of the image carriers and is separated from the other image carriers in a configuration with multiple image carriers.

[0064] [Installation, removal and positioning of intermediate transfer unit] Next, a configuration for attaching and detaching the intermediate transfer unit 20 from the apparatus main body 201 when, for example, replacing the intermediate transfer belt 7 will be described.

[0065] As shown in FIG. 8, the intermediate transfer unit 20 is detachable from the device body 201 of the image forming device 200 in the above-mentioned full separation mode. Specifically, the intermediate transfer unit 20 is exposed by opening the right door RD provided on the right side as viewed from the front of the device body 201, and the intermediate transfer unit 20 can be detached from the device body 201 by moving it in the left-right direction (arrow K3). In other words, the intermediate transfer unit 20 is provided so as to be detachable in the left-right direction intersecting both the width direction and the vertical direction of the intermediate transfer belt 7. It is also possible to configure the intermediate transfer unit 20 to be detachable from the device body 201 in the front-rear direction in FIG. 8, but the above-mentioned attachment and detachment direction is used from the viewpoint of positioning accuracy with respect to the image forming sections Pa to Pd and because a housing that covers the intermediate transfer unit 20 is necessary.

[0066] Hereinafter, detailed explanation will be given with reference to Figs. 9, 10, and 11. Fig. 9 is a perspective view for explaining the attachment and detachment operation of the intermediate transfer unit 20. The upper part of the figure is the rear side of the device body 201, and the lower part of the figure is the front side of the device body 201. Fig. 9(a) shows the state in which the intermediate transfer unit 20 is attached to the device body 201 (hereinafter, the attached state), Fig. 9(b) shows the state in the middle of being attached to the device body 201 (hereinafter, the intermediate state), and Fig. 9(c) shows the state in which the intermediate transfer unit 20 is pulled out from the device body 201 and can be removed (hereinafter, the pulled out state). Fig. 10 is a cross-sectional view for explaining the attachment and detachment operation of the intermediate transfer unit 20, and shows a cross-section of the rear side of the device body 201. Here, Fig. 10 shows the attachment and detachment state of the intermediate transfer unit 20 corresponding to Fig. 9. Fig. 10(a) shows the attached state, Fig. 10(b) shows the state in the middle of attachment and detachment, and Fig. 10(c) shows the pulled out state.

[0067] The transfer rails 78F and 78R are disposed on the inner surface of the device body 201, and are configured to be symmetrical except for some shape differences. The parts of the shape are the transmission drive hole 78d and the separation drive hole 78s shown in FIG. 10. The transmission drive hole 78d is a hole for transmitting a drive from the drive source of the device body 201 to the drive coupling 22 provided in the intermediate transfer unit 20. The separation drive hole 78s is a hole for transmitting a drive from the drive source of the device body 201 to the separation coupling 33 provided in the intermediate transfer unit 20. The transmission drive hole 78d and the separation drive hole 78s each have a protruding connecting member for driving connection (not shown). The transfer rails 78F and 78R are symmetrical except for some shape differences, and therefore, the configuration of the transfer rail 78R will be described below as an example.

[0068] The transfer rail 78R is provided with a guide portion for attaching and detaching the intermediate transfer unit 20. The first guide portion 781 has a first fitting portion into which the first positioning portion 21r provided on the transfer frame 21 is movably fitted. The second guide portion 782 has a second fitting portion into which the second positioning portion 21b provided on the transfer frame 21 is movably fitted. The third guide portion 783 is configured to movably engage with the third positioning portion 28c. The first guide portion 781 is provided on the upstream side of the mounting direction of the intermediate transfer unit 20, and the second guide portion 782 is provided on the downstream side of the mounting direction of the intermediate transfer unit 20. In this embodiment, the first guide portion 781 and the second guide portion 782 are configured as a common guide rail, and the second positioning portion 21b is configured to pass through the first guide portion when the intermediate transfer unit 20 is attached or detached.

[0069] The positioning portion of the intermediate transfer unit 20 is as described above in the section [Intermediate Transfer Unit].

[0070] In the attached state (FIGS. 9(a) and 10(a)), the first positioning portion 21r fits into the first guide portion 781, and the second positioning portion 21b fits into the second guide portion 782, thereby positioning the intermediate transfer unit 20 with respect to the image forming portions Pa to Pd. As a result, images can be formed in the CL mode and BK mode in the spacing mechanism described above.

[0071] In the full separation mode, the replacement worker moves the intermediate transfer unit 20 in the direction of arrow K3 in FIG. 8 while holding the frame holding portion 21h and the handle member H, resulting in the intermediate transfer unit 20 being in the midway state (FIGS. 9(b) and 10(b)). In the midway state, the first positioning portion 21r movably fits into the first guide portion 781, and the third positioning portion 28c movably engages with the third guide portion 783. The third positioning portion 28c is composed of two cylindrical portions and a horizontal portion connecting them.

[0072] When the intermediate transfer unit 20 is pulled out slightly from the halfway state, the first positioning portion 21r comes out of the first guide portion 781 (the fitting relationship is released). At this time, if the frame holding portion 21h and the handle member H are released, a clockwise moment is generated in the third positioning portion 28c due to the weight of the intermediate transfer unit 20. In other words, the frame holding portion 21h and the handle member H side try to fall vertically downward. However, the intermediate transfer unit 20 is held because the third positioning portion 28c and the third guide portion 783 are movably engaged. The hold of the transfer rails 78F and 78R against the intermediate transfer unit 20 (fall prevention) continues until the pulled-out state (FIGS. 9(c) and 10(c)). At this time, the second positioning portion 21b passes through the fourth guide portion 784, but is configured not to come into physical contact with it.

[0073] If the above-mentioned function performed by the third positioning portion 28c were to be transferred to the second positioning portion 21b by changing its shape, a drive connecting member penetrating the transmission drive hole 78d and the separation drive hole 78s would protrude into the path, making it difficult to ensure ease of attachment and detachment of the intermediate transfer unit 20. In particular, since the second positioning portion 21b is caught by the first guide portion 781 after leaving the fourth guide portion 784, it is not possible to engage the second positioning portion 21b, and the intermediate transfer unit 20 may fall before reaching the pulled-out state.

[0074] As a result of the above, it is possible to prevent the intermediate transfer unit 20 from falling when attaching or detaching it, and to prevent the intermediate transfer belt 7 from coming into contact with other members and being damaged. After the intermediate transfer unit 20 has been moved to the pulled-out state, it becomes possible to remove the intermediate transfer unit 20 from the device main body 201. The procedure for attaching the intermediate transfer unit 20 to the device main body 201 is the reverse of the above procedure.

[0075] [Attaching and detaching the intermediate transfer belt] When replacing the intermediate transfer belt 7, it is preferable to place the transfer frame 21 on a workbench GL and place the intermediate transfer unit 20 so that the frame holding portion 21h provided on the transfer frame 21 is positioned vertically below, as shown in Fig. 11. The intermediate transfer unit 20 may be configured to stand on its own, or a replacement worker may replace the intermediate transfer belt 7 with one hand while holding the transfer frame 21.

[0076] After the intermediate transfer unit 20 is made upright, the intermediate transfer belt 7 may be removed after the steering roller 17 is removed, or the tension on the intermediate transfer belt 7 may be released and the intermediate transfer belt 7 may be removed while the steering roller 17 is still attached. Either configuration may be adopted in this embodiment.

[0077] Next, as shown in FIG. 12, the positioning plate 28 is moved. FIG. 12(a) shows a state after the intermediate transfer unit 20 is removed from the apparatus body 201 (including the state of being pulled out from the apparatus body), and FIG. 12(b) shows a state in which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is waiting to be replaced. In the state of FIG. 12(a), the positioning plate 28 and the third positioning portion 28c are partly positioned outside the projection surface (projection area) A7 on which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched (first state). That is, the positioning plate 28 is disposed above the projection area A7 obtained by projecting the tension area stretched by the intermediate transfer belt 7 in the width direction of the intermediate transfer belt. In this case, even if the intermediate transfer belt 7 is moved in the K4 direction in FIG. 11, the intermediate transfer belt 7 and the positioning plate 28 interfere with each other on the movement trajectory, making it impossible to remove the intermediate transfer belt 7. For this reason, a configuration is provided in which the positioning plate 28 is movable.

[0078] The positioning plate 28 is rotated 90° toward the front in the figure around the rotation axis 28x in Fig. 12, thereby reaching the state shown in Fig. 12(b). This operation positions the positioning plate 28 and the third positioning portion 28c in their entirety on the inside of the projection plane A7 on which the intermediate transfer belt 7 is stretched (second state), and the intermediate transfer belt 7 can be moved in the direction K4 in Fig. 11.

[0079] In this configuration, as described above, the intermediate transfer unit 20 is positioned by the second positioning portion 21b in the installed state. This may be done by the third positioning portion 28c, but the third positioning portion 28c positions the intermediate transfer unit 20 relative to the transfer frame 21 by fitting two protrusions 281, 282 provided on the positioning plate 28 into holes 211, 212 provided in the transfer frame 21. Therefore, in consideration of the unit rigidity and positioning accuracy related to image formation, the intermediate transfer unit 20 is positioned by the second positioning portion 21b in the installed state.

[0080] Finally, by removing the handle member H, which is held during the attachment and detachment operation, from the transfer frame 21, the intermediate transfer belt 7 can be moved in the vertical direction (belt width direction, arrow K4) and removed and reinstalled.

[0081] These configurations ensure ease of attachment and detachment of the intermediate transfer unit 20, and as a result, it becomes possible to easily replace the intermediate transfer belt 7. In addition, avoiding contact with the drive input portion (drive connecting member) when attaching and detaching the intermediate transfer unit 20, which is an issue when implementing miniaturization, can be achieved without the need to separately provide a retraction mechanism for the drive connecting member.

[0082] In this embodiment, the positioning plate 28 is supported movably relative to the transfer frame 21 , but it may be provided so as to be detachable from the transfer frame 21 . [Explanation of symbols]
