Abstract

The garment (10) includes a first garment portion (22), a second garment portion (24), a third garment portion (26), a waterproof fastener system configured to join the first garment portion (22) and the second garment portion (24), and a non-waterproof fastener system (32) configured to join the first garment portion (22) and the third garment portion (26). The waterproof fastener system can be uncoupled and recoupled without removing the third garment portion. The waterproof fastener system can include a first coupling portion joining the first garment portion to the second garment portion. The non-waterproof fastener system can include a second coupling portion joining the first garment portion to the third garment portion. The second coupling portion can be configured to withstand repeated repairs and to be uncoupled and recoupled.

[0035] Garments, such as, but not limited to, garments for rainy or cold weather activities, may include portions that are more susceptible to wear and tear than other portions of the garment. For example, pant cuffs may see more wear and tear than the top leg of the same pant. As a result, pant cuffs may be primed for replacement before the top leg of the same pant. This may be particularly true in situations where garments are used by many different users, such as rental or other multi-user garment applications. It is desirable to have a simple and easy replacement item that allows for the replacement of heavily worn portions of a garment and keeps the garment looking new.

[0036] Some embodiments relate to garments that include high-wear parts that are easily and quickly replaceable without special tools. As used herein, "easily unfastened" or "easily unfastened and refastened" means that a skilled artisan, such as, but not limited to, a tailor, has the tools, skill, and knowledge to unfasten or unfasten and refasten garment parts. In some embodiments, garments can include, for example, pants, where the replaceable parts of the pants include cuffs and / or gaiters; jackets, where the replaceable parts of the jacket include cuffs and / or sleeve gaiters; jackets, where the replaceable parts of the jacket include a snow skirt or waist section; and jackets, where the replaceable parts of the jacket include a jacket hood. Some embodiments can include combinations of the above. Additionally, while garments with repairable parts are described in terms of repairing cuffs and gaiters, it is within the scope of the present invention that other parts of the garment can also be replaceable using the techniques described herein. Non-limiting examples include interchangeable jacket collars, as well as interchangeable zipper sections and drawcords and drawcord tunnels.

That is, the person replacing the garment need not use a particular joint type to replace the third garment portion 26.

(Aspect 11) (a) receiving a garment having a plurality of garment portions, the plurality of garment portions include a first garment portion, a second garment portion, and a third garment portion; the first garment portion and the second garment portion are joined by a waterproof fastener system, the waterproof fastener system including a first sewn bond and a sealed seam; the first garment portion and the third garment portion are joined by a second joining portion configured to withstand repeated repairs and to be unjoined and rejoined; receiving a garment in which the second garment portion, the third garment portion, or both the second garment portion and the third garment portion are damaged; (b) removing the damaged second garment portion from the first garment portion; (c) providing a fourth garment portion corresponding to an undamaged replacement for the second garment portion or the third garment portion; (d) providing a repair joint between the fourth garment portion and the first garment portion; providing a stitched repair joint that is configured to withstand repeated repairs and to be unsewn and resewn; (e) providing the repaired garment, The method, wherein steps (a) to (e) are repeated at least twice. (Aspect 12) 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the repair bond is visibly distinct from other bonds on the garment. (Aspect 13) 13. The method of claim 11 or 12, wherein the repair bond is a stitched bond. (Aspect 14) 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the repair bond is visibly distinct from other bonds on the garment. The method of any one of aspects 11-14, comprising cutting the first garment portion in proximity to the waterproof fastener system. (Aspect 16) removing the damaged second garment portion from the first garment portion; 16. The method of any one of aspects 11 to 15, comprising removing the stitching forming the second bond. (Aspect 17) the fourth garment portion corresponds to the undamaged third garment portion; 17. The method of any one of aspects 11-16, further comprising: (g) providing a fifth garment portion comprising an undamaged replacement portion for the third garment portion. (Aspect 18) (h) providing a repair bond between the fifth garment portion and the first garment portion; the fifth garment portion is joined to provide a repair bond; the repair joint is configured to withstand repeated repairs and to be unbonded and rebonded; 18. The method of claim 19, wherein the repair bond is visibly distinct from other bonds on the garment. (Aspect 21) if the fourth garment portion corresponds to the undamaged second garment portion, the fourth garment portion is joined and seam sealed to provide a waterproof repair fastening system; or 21. The method of any one of aspects 11 to 20, wherein if the fourth garment portion corresponds to the undamaged third garment portion, the fourth garment portion is joined to provide a repair bond.

Claims

1. A garment, a first garment portion; a second garment portion; a third garment portion; and A waterproof fastener system configured to join the first garment portion and the second garment portion, comprising: the waterproof fastener system can be uncoupled and reattached without removing the third garment portion; the waterproof fastener system includes a first coupling portion joining the first garment portion to the second garment portion; a waterproof fastener system configured to prevent ingress of water through a first connection; a non-waterproof fastener system configured to join the first garment portion and the third garment portion, the non-waterproof fastener system includes a second coupling portion joining the first garment portion to the third garment portion; a non-waterproof fastening system, wherein the second connection is configured to be uncoupled and recoupled; and (1) the first garment portion is a pant leg, the second garment portion is a pant cuff, and the third garment portion is a gaiter; or (2) the first garment portion is a sleeve, the second garment portion is a sleeve cuff, and the third garment portion is a sleeve gaiter; clothing.

2. The garment of claim 1 , wherein the second bond is visibly distinct from other bond portions of the garment.

3. The garment of claim 2 , wherein the second bonded portion is a different color than other bonded portions of the garment.

4. 4. The garment of claim 2 or 3, wherein the second bond is a sewn bond, the sewn bond having a different stitching pattern than other stitches on the garment.

5. The garment of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the second garment portion and the third garment portion are not patches.

6. The garment of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the waterproof fastener system includes a first sewn bond and a sealed seam.

7. The garment of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the waterproof fastening system consists essentially of a first sewn bond and a sealed seam.

8. The garment of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the waterproof fastening system comprises a first sewn bond and a sealed seam.

(a) receiving a garment having a plurality of garment portions; the plurality of garment portions include a first garment portion, a second garment portion, and a third garment portion; the first garment portion and the second garment portion are joined by a waterproof fastener system, the waterproof fastener system including a first sewn bond and a sealed seam; the first garment portion and the third garment portion are joined by a second joining portion configured to be released and rejoined; the second garment portion, the third garment portion, or both the second garment portion and the third garment portion are damaged; and (1) the first garment portion is a pant leg, the second garment portion is a pant cuff, and the third garment portion is a gaiter; or (2) the first garment portion is a sleeve, the second garment portion is a sleeve cuff, and the third garment portion is a sleeve gaiter; Receiving clothing and (b) removing the damaged second garment portion from the first garment portion; (c) providing a fourth garment part corresponding to an undamaged replacement part for the second garment part or the third garment part; (d) providing a repair joint between the fourth garment portion and the first garment portion, providing a stitched repair joint, the repair joint being configured to be unsewn and rejoined; (e) providing the repaired garment.

15. the fourth garment portion corresponds to the undamaged third garment portion; 11. The method of claim 9 or 10, further comprising: (f) providing a fifth garment portion comprising an undamaged replacement portion for the third garment portion.

16. (g) providing a repair bond between the fifth garment portion and the first garment portion; the fifth garment portion is joined to provide a repair bond; the repair joint is configured to be unbonded and rebonded; 16. The method of claim 15.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the repair bond is a stitch bond.

18. 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the repair bond is visibly distinct from other bonds on the garment.

19. if the fourth garment portion corresponds to the undamaged second garment portion, the fourth garment portion is joined and seam sealed to provide a waterproof repair fastener system; or 11. The method of claim 9 or 10, wherein if the fourth garment part corresponds to the undamaged third garment part, the fourth garment part is joined to provide a repair bond.
