In one embodiment, a hair drying system is provided, comprising a hair dryer having several different types of accessories and an output end configured to supply air. The output end may include a mounting assembly having a retaining mechanism configured to selectively engage with each of the different types of accessories to hold a selected one of the different types of accessories on the hair dryer. The hair dryer may also include an alignment mechanism configured to align at least one of the different types of accessories to at least one predetermined rotational orientation with respect to the output end.
