Abstract

To provide a method and an apparatus for video encoding / decoding that improve the efficiency of inter prediction.SOLUTION: A method includes decoding prediction information for a current block of a current picture in a coded bitstream, the prediction information specifying a geometric partitioning mode (GPM) for the current block, and partitioning the current block into two partitions in the GPM mode, each of the partitions being associated with a respective predictor. The method also includes determining weighting indexes for samples of the current block on the basis of the positions of the samples, calculating weighting factors on the basis of the weighting indexes of the samples according to a formula for converting the weighting indexes to weighting factors, and reconstructing the samples on the basis of the predictors and weighting factors corresponding to the samples.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 12
