Description

Thermoplastic elastomer composition, molded body, and automobile part

[0001] The present invention relates to a thermoplastic elastomer composition, a molded article, and an automobile part.

[0002] Olefin-based thermoplastic elastomers are made from ethylene copolymers and crystalline olefin-based polymers such as polypropylene, and are therefore lighter and easier to recycle than other thermoplastic elastomers. Furthermore, because they do not emit toxic gases when incinerated, they are widely used in automobile parts, industrial machinery parts, electrical and electronic parts, building materials, etc., particularly as a substitute for vulcanized rubber, from the viewpoints of energy conservation, resource conservation, and more recently, global environmental protection.

[0003] As a thermoplastic elastomer composition having good low-temperature tensile elongation, for example, Patent Document 1 discloses a thermoplastic elastomer composition containing 30 to 60 parts by mass of a propylene polymer (A), 32 to 65 parts by mass of an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer (B) composed of ethylene and an α-olefin having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, and 1 to 20 parts by mass of an at least partially crosslinked rubber (C) (the total amount of components (A), (B), and (C) is 100 parts by mass). Furthermore, as a thermoplastic elastomer composition having a good balance of required properties such as melt flowability during injection molding, releasability when releasing a molded body from a mold, low-temperature impact resistance of an airbag cover molded body obtained by injection molding, and weld physical properties, for example, Patent Document 2 discloses a thermoplastic elastomer composition comprising: component (A): a propylene-based polymer portion (a) obtained by polymerizing a monomer mainly composed of propylene polymerized in a first step and an ethylene-based copolymer portion (b) polymerized in a second step, and having an intrinsic viscosity [η] of 2.5 to 8.0; component (B): an ethylene-propylene-based copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity of 20 to 100; and component (C): a propylene-based copolymer rubber having a density of 0.860 to 0.910 g / cm 3 and an ethylene copolymer having a melt flow rate of 0.01 to 10 g / 10 min.

[0048] Among the above compounds, 1,1-bis(t-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane, di-t-butyl peroxide, dicumyl peroxide, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-bis(t-butylperoxy)hexane, and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-bis(t-butylperoxy)hexyne-3 are preferred, and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-bis(t-butylperoxy)hexane is more preferred, from the viewpoint of thermal decomposition temperature, crosslinking performance, etc. The organic peroxide is preferably used in an amount of 1 to 20 parts by mass, more preferably 5 to 15 parts by mass, per 100 parts by mass of the ethylene copolymer rubber (C), from the viewpoint of molding flowability.

[0049] From the viewpoint of making the crosslinking reaction uniform, a crosslinking aid may be used in combination in the dynamic crosslinking reaction. The crosslinking aid is not particularly limited, and examples thereof include divinyl compounds such as divinylbenzene; oxime compounds such as p-quinone dioxime and p,p'-dibenzoylquinone dioxime; nitroso compounds such as N-methyl-N-4-dinitrosoaniline and nitrosobenzene; maleimide compounds such as trimethylolpropane-N,N'-m-phenylenedimaleimide; and sulfur, diphenyl guanidine, triallyl cyanurate, etc. Other examples of the crosslinking aid include polyfunctional methacrylate monomers such as ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, diethylene glycol dimethacrylate, polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate, trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate, and allyl methacrylate; and polyfunctional vinyl monomers such as vinyl butyrate and vinyl stearate.

[0050] The amount of the crosslinking aid added can be appropriately set depending on the desired purpose. For example, the amount of the crosslinking aid added is preferably 0.5 to 5 parts by mass, more preferably 0.5 to 3 parts by mass, per 100 parts by mass of the ethylene copolymer rubber (C).

[0051] In the dynamic crosslinking, additives other than the crosslinking agent and crosslinking aid (hereinafter simply referred to as "additives") may be added within a range that does not impair the object of the present invention. Examples of additives include plasticizers such as polyethylene glycol and phthalate esters such as dioctyl phthalate (DOP); heat stabilizers such as 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol and n-octadecyl-3-(3,5'-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate; and antioxidants such as trisnonylphenyl phosphite and distearyl pentaerythritol diphosphite. The amount of the additives added can be adjusted appropriately within a range that does not impair the object of the present invention.

[0052] The content of the ethylene copolymer rubber (C) is 0 to 20% by mass, preferably 0 to 15% by mass, more preferably 0 to 10% by mass, and even more preferably 0 to 8% by mass (wherein the total amount of the propylene block copolymer (A), the ethylene copolymer rubber (B), and the ethylene copolymer rubber (C) is 100% by mass). When the content of the ethylene copolymer rubber (C) is within the above range, the low-temperature impact resistance is excellent.

[0053] The content of the ethylene copolymer rubber (C) is preferably 1 to 20% by mass, more preferably 1 to 15% by mass, and even more preferably 2 to 8% by mass (wherein the total amount of the propylene block copolymer (A), the ethylene copolymer rubber (B), and the ethylene copolymer rubber (C) is 100% by mass). When the content of the ethylene copolymer rubber (C) is within the above range, a thermoplastic elastomer composition that is excellent in suppressing the generation of volatile (fogging) components can be obtained. The ethylene copolymer rubber (C) may be contained alone or in combination of two or more types.

[0054] [Other Components] The thermoplastic elastomer composition may contain components (hereinafter also referred to as "additives") other than the propylene-based block copolymer (A), the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (B), the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (C), and the softener (E) as long as the effects of the present invention are not impaired. The additives are not particularly limited, but include resins other than the propylene-based block copolymer (A), the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (B), and the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (C); acid acceptors, ultraviolet absorbers, antioxidants, heat stabilizers, antioxidants, light stabilizers, weather stabilizers, antistatic agents, metal soaps, aliphatic amides, lubricants such as wax, and crystal nucleating agents, all of which are known additives used in the field of polyolefins. The content of the other additives is not particularly limited as long as the object of the present invention is not impaired.

[0055] The amount of the additives to be added is not particularly limited as long as the effects of the present invention are achieved. However, the total amount of the other additives is usually 5 parts by mass or less, preferably 0.5 to 3.0 parts by mass, per 100 parts by mass of the total amount of the propylene-based block copolymer (A), the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (B), and the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (C).

[0056] [Method for Producing Thermoplastic Elastomer Composition] The thermoplastic elastomer composition can be produced by mixing the propylene-based block copolymer (A), the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (B), and the ethylene-based copolymer rubber (C), and, if necessary, the softener (E) and other additives, using a known method, for example, a Henschel mixer, a V-blender, a ribbon blender, a tumbler blender, etc., or by mixing and then melt-kneading the mixture using a single-screw extruder, a multi-screw extruder, a kneader, a Banbury mixer, etc., followed by granulation or pulverization. After mixing, the components may be further melt-kneaded using a single-screw extruder, a multi-screw extruder, a kneader, a Banbury mixer, etc., followed by granulation or pulverization.

The low-temperature impact resistance was evaluated based on the state of fracture of the test piece after the test, using the following evaluation criteria. An evaluation result of PB indicates that the test piece is less likely to break into pieces and is preferable. - Evaluation Criteria - PB: The test piece was only partially broken, and the shape of the test piece was maintained. B: The test piece was broken, and the shape of the test piece could not be maintained.
