Abstract
A battery, for example, includes a positive electrode and a negative electrode, where the negative electrode comprises sheets of active material with hydroxylated edges surrounding non-hydroxylated planes. Hydroxylated metal oxide nanoparticles chemoabsorb onto the hydroxylated edges, selectively coating these regions. The metal oxide nanoparticles can be made of tungsten, niobium, or aluminum.
