Two-way communication device for deaf-blind and sighted

Abstract

A Braille-based haptic device used to address the issue of straightforward communication between deaf-blind and sighted individuals. The interface of the device is based on standard Braille typewriters, which consists of Braille keys for various key combinations and a single refreshable Braille display that recreates the Braille pattern from the intended message. The Braille cell display is made up of six mini solenoids that actuate according to a specific Braille code pattern. To attain a straightforward communication, Braille to text and viceversa conversion is implemented. A mobile application was utilized, used by the sighted, to communicate with the device.
