Abstract
Description
Hair dye composition and method for producing the same
[0001] The present invention relates to a hair dye composition and a method for producing the same, and more particularly, to a hair dye composition comprising a pomegranate extract, a metal-phenolic complex (MPC), and melanin or a precursor thereof, and a method for producing the same.
[0002] Hair dyes can generally be categorized into temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent hair dyes, depending on the color's durability and longevity. Permanent hair dyes are further categorized into oxidation dyes, metallic dyes, and plant-based dyes, depending on the dye used. Most hair dyes currently in use are oxidation dyes, utilizing oxidation dye precursors and oxidative dyes such as amino compounds.
[0003] However, oxidation hair dyes are chemical hair dyes containing synthetic dyes, and they have problems such as hair damage, rashes and contact skin reactions, and vision impairment when used frequently, and can cause leukemia, bladder cancer, uterine cancer, and breast cancer. They cannot be used by pregnant women due to their toxicity, and they have disadvantages such as the generation of a foul odor when dyeing.
[0004] To address these issues, the development of natural hair dyes that are harmless to the human body and environmentally friendly is needed. Currently, the oldest representative natural hair dye is henna, which is extracted from a plant native to tropical regions such as India and the Middle East, and has been used to dye human hair for thousands of years. In addition to henna, ink, walnut, indigo, and chamomile are also used, and each color represents a red series, walnut represents a brown series, ink represents a black series, indigo represents a blue series, and chamomile represents a yellow series.
[0005] Meanwhile, pomegranates are cultivated in Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries, and the fruit is known to have astringent, blood purifying, and antioxidant effects due to its rich content of carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, pectin, and tannin. The ellagic acid contained in it is known to have strong anticancer, antioxidant, and acid secretion suppressing effects. Pomegranate peel is called pomegranate peel in oriental medicine and is used as an astringent for diarrhea, dysentery, abdominal pain, and leukorrhea, and is also known to be effective in treating itchy skin, athlete's foot, ringworm, and scabies.
[0006] There are examples of pomegranate being used as a natural dye for human hair, but compared to non-oxidizing hair dyes using commercially available pyrogallol, the ΔE value is low, resulting in low coverage of gray hair.
[0007] In addition, commercially available non-oxidizing hair dyes with pyrogallol as the main ingredient have the limitation that the hair color at the beginning of dyeing is dark blue with a lot of blue added, resulting in an unnatural color.
[0008] Metal-phenolic complexes (MPCs) are compounds of metals and phenols, formed by the interaction of metal ions and phenolic compounds under specific conditions. These compounds are stabilized by electronic interactions between the positive charge of the metal ion and the negative charge of the phenol. The metal ion is typically a transition metal or alkali metal, such as iron(II) gluconate, and the phenol is a heterocyclic compound characterized by containing hydrogen and one oxygen atom.
[0009] Interactions between metals and phenols can occur in a variety of ways, the most common being when the hydrogen atoms of the phenol combine with the metal ion to form a hydroxyl group. The metal ion then interacts with the phenol's negative charge, stabilizing it. MPCs are used in a variety of fields, including as antioxidants, catalysts, and bioactive substances.
[0010] The structure and properties of MPCs vary depending on the type of metal and phenol compound used, and they are known to function as dyes, exhibiting a coloring effect. These compounds are formed through the interaction of specific metal ions with phenol compounds, which plays a crucial role in color formation.
[0011] The dyeing effect of MPC is mainly caused by two mechanisms: first, color is formed by charge transfer (complex formation) between metal ions and phenol compounds, and second, MPC can act as a dye by structural interaction formed between metal ions and phenol compounds.
[0012] The hair surface is composed of proteins, and gallic acid or iron (II) enters between hair surface proteins through hydrophobic interactions and coordination bonds and binds to free molecules or small complexes of hair fibers to form a solid coating on the hair surface, which acts to change the color of the hair.
[0013] The color produced by MPC varies depending on the type of metal and phenol compounds used and their bonding structures, and some compounds exhibit specific colors such as red, blue, green, or purple, which means that the properties of the hair dye can vary depending on how the MPC composition and ratio are composed.
[0014] However, it is difficult to control the interaction between metal ions and phenol components within MPC, and its stability in cosmetic formulations is very low, so it is not widely used as a hair dye.
[0015] Iron(II) gluconate is a compound composed of the mineral iron and the amino acid glutamic acid. It can be used in a form that promotes iron absorption and utilization in the body. Iron is essential for maintaining skin health and is involved in oxygen supply to skin cells, collagen production, and skin tissue repair. It also protects the skin from oxidation and helps prevent skin aging. Glutamic acid can improve hair health by providing moisture and strengthening hair structure, enhancing elasticity and strength. Iron is known to exhibit various colors depending on conditions and its interaction with other substances. However, detailed research and information are needed to understand how glutamic acid or Fe-glutamate interacts with certain pigments and what role it plays in hair dyeing.
[0016] Tannic acid is a polyphenol compound found in plants, primarily in wine and soybeans. It has properties that soothe the skin and reduce inflammation, making it useful for improving skin problems like dermatitis and stinging sensations. It can also help increase skin elasticity and improve wrinkles and sagging skin. It also has antibacterial properties, helping prevent skin infections and maintain skin balance. When used in hair products, it is particularly effective in controlling sebum production and improving dull scalps. It is also known to be used to naturally absorb pigments and create a dyeing effect. However, further research is needed, as dyeing power varies depending on the substance and conditions used.
[0017] Gallic acid is a polyphenol compound found in plant fruits, tea, and wine. Its powerful antioxidant properties help protect the skin from oxidation. Its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties are known to help alleviate skin problems like dermatitis, acne, and wounds. Furthermore, products containing gallic acid strengthen and add shine to hair. Using gallic acid forms a protective layer on hair, preventing damage from the environment and maintaining moisture and softness. While gallic acid is sometimes used as a color enhancer in cooking, research on its use in hair dyeing is limited.
[0018] Polyhydroxyindole is a compound of the indole family, found in plant and animal tissues like tannic acid. It primarily plays a role in the biosynthesis of the skin pigment melanin. Its antioxidant properties can help protect the skin from oxidation and environmental damage, and its interaction with melanin can provide a natural dyeing effect to skin and hair. However, the dyeing strength varies depending on the substance, conditions, and concentration used, and establishing the correct application method is important to achieve the desired results.

[0022] Another object of the present invention relates to a use of a hair dye composition comprising two or more selected from the group consisting of a pomegranate extract; a metal phenolic complex (MPC); and melanin or a precursor thereof for dyeing gray hair.
[0023] The present invention relates to a hair dye composition for gray hair and a method for producing the same. The hair dye composition comprising a pomegranate extract, a metal-phenolic complex (MPC), and melanin or a precursor thereof according to the present invention exhibits an excellent gray hair dyeing effect.
[0024] The present inventors have confirmed that the gray hair cover hair dyeing effect exhibited by a gray hair dye composition comprising a pomegranate extract, MPC, and melanin or a precursor thereof is significantly superior.
[0025] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail.
[0026] One aspect of the present invention is a hair dye composition comprising two or more selected from the group consisting of a plant extract; a metal-phenol complex MPC; and melanin or a precursor thereof. Specifically, the plant extract may include at least one selected from the group consisting of a pomegranate extract, a blueberry extract, a cacao extract, an apricot extract, a persimmon extract, a grape extract, an avocado extract, an apple extract, a beet extract, and an oyster extract, and more specifically, may be a pomegranate extract.
[0027] In the present invention, the pomegranate extract may be at least one extract selected from the group consisting of flowers, fruits, seeds, leaves, branches, stems, and roots of a pomegranate tree.
[0028] The pomegranate extract may contain 40 to 100 wt% of the pomegranate flower extract, preferably 45 to 100 wt%, 50 to 100 wt%, 55 to 100 wt%, 60 to 100 wt%, 65 to 100 wt%, 70 to 100 wt%, 75 to 100 wt%, 80 to 100 wt%, or 85 to 100 wt%, for example, 90 to 100 wt%, but is not limited thereto.
[0029] The above 'extract' includes a solvent crude extract, a specific solvent soluble extract (solvent fraction) and a solvent fraction of a solvent crude extract, and the pomegranate extract may be in the form of a solution, concentrate or powder.
[0030] The above pomegranate extract may be a crude extract obtained by extracting pomegranate with water and at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of straight-chain or branched alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
[0031] When a mixture of water and alcohol is used as a solvent for the production of a crude extract of pomegranate, the amount is 10% to less than 100% (v / v), 20% to less than 100% (v / v), 30% to less than 100% (v / v), 40% to less than 100% (v / v), 50% to less than 100% (v / v), 60% to less than 100% (v / v), 70% to less than 100% (v / v), 10% to less than 90% (v / v), 20% to less than 90% (v / v), 30% to less than 90% (v / v), 40% to less than 90% (v / v), 50% to less than 90% (v / v), An aqueous solution of a straight-chain or branched alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms of 60% to less than 90% (v / v) or 70% to less than 90% (v / v), for example, an aqueous solution of a straight-chain or branched alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms of 80% (v / v).
[0032] In addition, the alcohol aqueous solution may be at least one selected from the group consisting of a methanol aqueous solution, an ethanol aqueous solution, a propanol aqueous solution, and a butanol aqueous solution, and may be, for example, an ethanol aqueous solution, but is not limited thereto.
[0033] The pomegranate extract according to the present invention may be a solvent fraction obtained by fractionating a solvent crude extract with an additional solvent, and for example, may be a solvent fraction obtained by using at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of ethyl ether, ethyl acetate, and butanol in the solvent crude extract.
[0034] For example, the solvent crude extract obtained by extracting the pomegranate with water and one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of straight-chain or branched alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms may be a solvent fraction using one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of ethyl ether, ethyl acetate, and butanol.
[0035] One aspect of the present invention relates to a method for producing a pomegranate extract.
[0036] The above pomegranate extract includes a solvent crude extract and a solvent fraction of pomegranate, as described above.
[0037] The above pomegranate extract may be a crude extract obtained by extracting pomegranate with water and one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of straight-chain or branched alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
[0038] The solvent is 10% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 20% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 30% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 40% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 50% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 60% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 70% or more but less than 100% (v / v), 10% or more but less than 90% (v / v), 20% or more but less than 90% (v / v), 30% or more but less than 90% (v / v), 40% or more but less than 90% (v / v), 50% or more but less than 90% (v / v), 60% or more but less than 90% (v / v) or It may be an aqueous solution of a straight-chain or branched alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, of 70% to 90% (v / v), for example, an aqueous solution of a straight-chain or branched alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, of 80% (v / v).
[0039] The process for manufacturing the pomegranate extract according to the present invention is described in more detail as follows: Pomegranates are cut, washed with water to remove contaminants, and then extracted at room temperature with an extraction solvent in an amount of about 10 to 50 times the weight of the pomegranate. After extraction, the filtrate is collected by filtration. The extraction temperature is not particularly limited, but is preferably 15 to 110°C, and preferably 20 to 90°C.
[0040] The extraction process can be repeated once or several times, and in one preferred example of the present invention, a method of re-extracting after the first extraction can be adopted. This is to prevent the extraction efficiency from being reduced with only the first extraction, as the moisture content of the herb itself is high even if filtration is performed effectively in the case of mass production of the herbal extract, resulting in loss. In addition, as a result of verifying the extraction efficiency at each stage, it was revealed that approximately 80 to 90% of the total extraction amount was extracted through the second extraction.
[0041] In one example of the present invention, when the extraction process is repeated twice, the obtained residue is again subjected to reflux extraction with an extraction solvent, about 5 to 15 times by volume, preferably 8 to 12 times by volume. After extraction, the residue is filtered, combined with the previously obtained filtrate, and concentrated under reduced pressure to produce the 000 extract. By performing the extraction twice and mixing the filtrates obtained after each extraction, the extraction efficiency can be increased, but the extract of the present invention is not limited to the number of extractions.
[0042] If the amount of solvent used in the production of the above pomegranate extract is too small, stirring becomes difficult and the solubility of the extract decreases, resulting in a drop in extraction efficiency. If the amount is too large, the amount of solvent used in the next purification step increases, which is not economical and may cause handling problems. Therefore, it is recommended that the amount of solvent used be within the above range.
[0043] The filtered extract thus obtained can be prepared as a powdered pomegranate extract by azeotropically concentrating it 1 to 5 times, preferably 2 to 3 times, with water in an amount of about 10 to 30 times by weight, preferably 15 to 25 times by weight, and more preferably about 20 times by weight, of the total amount of the concentrate, homogeneously suspending it again by adding the same amount of water, and then freeze-drying it.
[0044] In the present invention, "extraction" refers to a method of separating useful soluble components contained in a liquid or solid raw material by dissolving them in a solvent, and may be any method commonly used, for example, hot water extraction, cold immersion extraction, reflux cooling extraction, solvent extraction, steam distillation, ultrasonic extraction, dissolution, and compression, but is not limited thereto.
[0045] In the present invention, the MPC may be at least one selected from the group consisting of polyphenols and metal ion complexes.
[0046] The above polyphenols may include tannic acid, gallic acid or a gallic acid derivative.
[0047] The above metal ion complex may be an iron ion complex, and preferably an iron gluconate complex, but is not limited thereto.
[0048] The above MPC may contain iron(II) D-gluconate dehydrate, tannic acid and gallic acid in a weight ratio of 1:0.1 to 2:0.2 to 4, preferably 1:0.2 to 2:0.5 to 4, 1:0.5 to 2:1 to 4, 1:1 to 2:2 to 4, 1:0.1 to 1:0.2 to 2, 1:0.2 to 1:0.5 to 2, or 1:0.5 to 1:1 to 2, and for example, may contain it in a weight ratio of 1:1:2, but is not limited thereto.
[0049] In the present invention, the precursor of the melanin may be at least one selected from the group consisting of poly-dihydroxyindole, L-dopaquinone, hydroxytryptophan, tyrosine, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA), dopaquinone, leucodopachrome, dopachrome, and 5,6-indolequinone, and more specifically, may be poly-dihydroxyindole, but is not limited thereto.

[0082]
[0083] Manufacturing Example 1: Determination of the hair-dyeing power of pomegranate flower extract and pomegranate extract
[0084] 1-1. Preparation of pomegranate ethanol extract containing pomegranate flowers with increased ellagic acid content
[0085] 150 g of raw powder of the whole pomegranate plant containing more than 90 wt% of pomegranate flowers was extracted with a 70% ethanol aqueous solution at 60℃ for 5 hours, and then filtered through a filter (250 mesh -> 5 μm). Thereafter, the powder was concentrated to 20% of the initial raw powder amount by weight, and diluted with 1,3-butylene glycol so that the ellagic acid content was more than 400 ppm, thereby producing a pomegranate ethanol extract with a high ellagic acid content (hereinafter, E-pomegranate extract).
[0086]
[0087] 1-2. Preparation of pomegranate water extract
[0088] 150 g of raw powder of crushed pomegranate tree whole plant was extracted with DW at 85℃ for 1 hour, filtered through a filter (3 μm -> 1 μm -> 0.5 μm), concentrated until the weight became 20% of the initial raw powder amount, and diluted with 1,3-butylene glycol to the concentration of the diluted E-pomegranate extract to prepare a pomegranate water extract.
[0089]
[0090] Test Example 1: Method for analyzing the dyeing power of hair dyes
[0091] Spray 3 g of the hair dye composition onto the hair, allow to absorb well with your hands, and leave at room temperature (approximately 15 to 25°C) for 10 minutes. Afterwards, wash once with water, wash twice with shampoo in lukewarm water, and dry with a hair dryer for 1 minute.
[0092] After taking a picture of the hair, an image was extracted with the background removed. Afterwards, the average RGB value of the hair image was extracted using Python code, and the extracted RGB value was converted to LAB value (using the Convert RGB to Lab website (colormine.org / convert / rgb-to-lab)). The Python code is as shown in Table 1 below (at this time, since png is expressed as RGBA (A = transparency) rather than RGB, this is the code to extract the RGB value from the pixels excluding the transparent pixels in the cropped image).
[0093] [Table 1]
[0094]
[0095] Afterwards, the converted LAB values as shown in Table 2 below were used to calculate ΔEab before and after hair dyeing.
[0096] ΔEab = [(ΔL)^2 + (Δa)^2 + (Δb)^2]^0.5
[0097] [Table 2]
[0098] Calculated ΔEab value
[0099]
[0100]
[0101] Test Example 2. Analysis of the salt-repelling power of pomegranate extract
[0102] E-pomegranate extract and pomegranate water extract at solid content concentrations of 0.01, 0.05, 0.5, and 10 wt% were each diluted in purified water and treated on hair according to the method of Test Example 1 to compare the colors.
[0103] [Table 3]
[0104]
[0105] [Table 4]
[0106]
[0107]
[0108] As can be seen in Table 3 (average RGB color value of hair), Table 4 (ΔEab value before and after dyeing), and Figures 1a and 1b, the pomegranate water extract did not significantly change the hair color, but the E-pomegranate extract darkened the hair color in a concentration-dependent manner.
[0109]
[0110] Manufacturing Example 2: Manufacturing of a hair dye composition containing MPC
[0111] A hair dye composition was prepared by mixing iron(II) D-gluconate dehydrate (699014-53-4), tannic acid, and gallic acid corresponding to the metal phenolic acid complex (MPC) according to the weight values (g) in Table 5 below, and then diluting to 5% using purified water.
[0112] [Table 5]
[0113]
[0114] Test Example 3: Confirming the MPC's salt-repelling power
[0115] The hair dye composition manufactured in the above Manufacturing Example 2 was applied to hair according to the method of the above Test Example 1, and the color was measured to compare the RGB values.
[0116] [Table 6]
[0117]
[0118] [Table 7]
[0119]
[0120]
[0121] As can be seen in Table 6 (average hair extraction color, average RGB color value, and image), Table 7 (ΔEab value before and after dyeing), and Figures 2a and 2b, the hair color becomes darker from No. 6 to No. 1, and the hair color appears similarly dark in No. 1 and No. 7. Accordingly, considering the cost aspect and solubility in water, the final MPC content ratio was determined based on the result of No. 7. In addition, considering that MPC progresses more reactive over time, MPC was freeze-dried to produce iron (II) D-gluconate hydrate, tannic acid, and gallic acid in a weight ratio of 1:1:2 as in No. 7.
[0122]
[0123] Manufacturing Example 3: Manufacturing of a hair dye composition containing E-pomegranate extract, polydihydroxyindole, and MPC
[0124] A hair dye composition was prepared by mixing E-pomegranate extract (E-pomegranate ex), MPC, and polydihydroxyindole ((Poly)dihydroxyindole) according to the ratios in Table 8 below and using purified water as a solvent. At this time, MPC was used as a freeze-dried powder mixed with D-gluconate iron (II) hydrate, tannic acid, and gallic acid in a ratio of 1:1:2.
[0125] [Table 8]
[0126]
[0127]
[0128] Test Example 4: Determination of the hair-salting power of E-pomegranate extract, polydihydroxyindole, and MPC.
[0129] The hair dye composition manufactured in the above Manufacturing Example 3 was applied to hair according to the method of the above Test Example 1, and the color was measured to compare the RGB and ΔEab values.
[0130] [Table 9]
[0131]
[0132] [Table 10]
[0133]
[0134]
[0135] As can be seen in Table 9 (average RGB color value of hair), Table 10 (ΔEab value before and after dyeing), and Figures 3a and 3b, the color of hair treated with Examples 1 to 4 appeared darker than the color of hair treated with Comparative Examples 1 to 3, and in particular, the hair was dyed the darkest in Example 4, in which E-pomegranate extract, polydihydroxyindole, and MPC were all mixed.
[0136]
[0137] Test Example 5: Determination of the hair-salting power of E-pomegranate extract, polydihydroxyindole, and MPC.
[0138] The hair dye composition prepared in Manufacturing Example 3 was applied to wool fibers and sufficiently colored by hand. After leaving the fibers at room temperature for 24 hours, the remaining hair dye composition was removed by pressing with a tissue until no traces of the composition were left behind. Each color was measured and the RGB and ΔEab values were compared.
[0139] [Table 11]
[0140]
[0141] [Table 12]
[0142]
[0143]
[0144] As a result, as can be seen in Table 11, Table 12, and FIGS. 4a and 4b, the color of the hair treated with Examples 1 to 4 was darker than the color of the hair treated with Comparative Examples 1 to 3, as in Test Example 4, and in particular, the hair was dyed the darkest in Example 4, in which E-pomegranate extract, polydihydroxyindole, and MPC were all mixed.
