[0055] In general, when a UE moves from one cell to another cell, at some point a serving cell change needs to be performed. In the legacy, the serving cell change is done by explicit RRC reconfiguration signalling (e.g. a handover (HO) command) to trigger the synchronization of a target cell based on L3 measurements report. It leads to longer latency, larger overhead, and longer interruption time than beam level mobility. Therefore, in 3GPP, LTM was approved to change a serving cell via L1 / L2 signalling, in order to reduce the latency, overhead and interruption time.

[0056] LTM is a procedure in which a base station (BS) receives L1 measurement report (s) from a UE, and on their basis the BS changes UE’s serving cell by a cell switch  command signaled via a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) , e.g. LTM cell switch command MAC CE or LTM Command MAC CE. The cell switch command indicates a target cell for LTM e.g. an LTM candidate cell configuration that the BS previously prepared and provided to the UE through RRC signalling. Then the UE switches to the target cell according to the cell switch command. The LTM procedure can be used to reduce the mobility latency.

[0057] When configured by the network, it is possible to activate transmission configuration indication (TCI) states of one or multiple cells that are different from the current serving cell. For instance, the TCI states of the LTM candidate cells can be activated in advance before any of those cells become the serving cell. This allows the UE to be DL synchronized with those cells, thereby facilitating a faster cell switch to one of those cells when cell switch is triggered.

[0058] When configured by the network, it is possible to initiate UL TA acquisition (called early TA) procedure of one or multiple cells that are different from the current serving cells. If the cell has the same NTA as the current serving cells or NTA=0, early TA acquisition procedure is not required. The network may request the UE to perform early TA acquisition of a candidate cell before a cell switch. The early TA acquisition procedure may be triggered by a PDCCH order or may be realized through UE-based TA measurement as configured by RRC signaling as described below.

[0059] In an early TA acquisition procedure realized through UE-based TA measurement as configured by RRC signaling, a UE may perform a TA measurement for candidate cells after being configured by RRC signaling, while the exact time the UE performs TA measurement is up to the UE's implementation. The UE may apply the TA value measured by itself and performs RACH-less LTM upon receiving a cell switch command. The network may also send a TA value in the LTM cell switch command MAC CE without an early TA acquisition.

[0060] Depending on the availability of a valid TA value, the UE performs either a RACH-less LTM or RACH-based LTM cell switch. If the TA value is provided in the cell switch command, the UE applies the TA value as instructed by the network. In the case where UE-based TA measurement is configured, but no TA value is provided in the cell switch command, the UE applies the TA value by itself if available. Meanwhile, the UE  performs RACH-less LTM cell switch upon receiving the cell switch command. If no valid TA value is available, the UE performs a RACH-based LTM cell switch.

[0061] For RACH-less LTM, the UE accesses the target cell using either a configured grant (CG) or a dynamic grant. The CG is provided in the LTM candidate configuration, and the UE selects the configured grant occasion associated with the beam indicated in the cell switch command. Upon initiation of LTM cell switch to the target cell, the UE starts to monitor PDCCH on the target cell for dynamic scheduling. Before RACH-less LTM procedure completion, the UE shall not trigger random access procedure if it does not have a valid PUCCH resource for triggered SRs.

[0062] In general, for analysis of connection failures, a UE may make an RLF Report available to the network. The UE stores the latest RLF Report, including both LTE and NR RLF report until the RLF report is fetched by the network or for 48 hours after the connection failure is detected. The UE only indicates RLF report availability and only provides the RLF report to the network if the current RPLMN is a PLMN that was present in the UE's EPLMN List or was the RPLMN at the time the connection failure was detected. In case RLF happens in an E-UTRA cell, the UE makes the LTE RLF Report available to NG-RAN nodes and eNB (s) , and in case RLF happens in an NR cell the UE makes the NR RLF Report available to gNB (s) . If the LTE RLF Report is reported to a NG-RAN node, and the last serving node is an E-UTRAN node, the NG-RAN node may transfer it to the E-UTRAN node by triggering the Uplink RAN configuration transfer procedure over NG and the E-UTRAN node can take this into account as defined in TS 36.300 [2] .

[0063] One of the functions of Mobility Robustness Optimization (MRO) is to detect a sub-optimal successful handover event. The aim is to identify underlying conditions during successful ordinary handovers, successful dual active protocol stack (DAPS) handovers, or successful Conditional handovers. For analysis of successful handover, a UE may collect Successful Handover Report (SHR) based on configuration by network, if stored, and makes the SHR available to the network as specified in 3GPP standard document TS 38.331.

[0064] For SHR collected during Intra-NR handover, if the target new radio (NR) node fetches the SHR from the UE and the trigger of SHR is timer T310 or T312, it may forward the information to the source NR node, i.e. the node handling the cell reported as source cell in this SHR, by using the ACCESS AND MOBILITY INDICATION message over Xn or by  means of the Uplink RAN configuration transfer procedure and Downlink RAN configuration transfer procedure over NG. If the NG-RAN node that fetches the SHR from the UE is neither the source node nor the target node of the handover, it forwards the information to the node (s) which configured the SHR trigger causing the SHR to be generated, by using the ACCESS AND MOBILITY INDICATION message over Xn or by means of the Uplink RAN configuration transfer procedure and Downlink RAN configuration transfer procedure over NG. Upon retrieval of a SHR, the receiving node may analyse whether its mobility configuration needs adjustment.

[0065] Currently, an MRO for LTM (e.g. including MCG LTM and SCG LTM) would be supported in 3GPP Release-19. Regarding an MRO for LTM, following issues need to be solved. In some cases, issues need to be solved include whether to support a fallback from an early TA triggered by a PDCCH order to a UE measured TA if a UE measured TA ID for a candidate cell is equal to a UE measured TA ID for a serving cell and how to perform a fallback from a RACH-less LTM to a RACH based LTM. In addition, issues need to be solved include "when a UE performs a RACH-less LTM via an early TA included in an LTM command" and "what assistant information should be reported to a network for a failed LTM or a successful LTM" .

[0066] In some cases, after an Intra-CU LTM or Inter-CU LTM towards a target cell, CU and DU of the target cell may be aware of a UE Measured TA ID for all candidate cells and No Layer-2 (L2) Reset ID for all candidate cells. For instance, the UE Measured TA ID for all candidate cells and No L2 reset ID for all candidate cells may be transferred to the target DU via an Xn interface and an F1 interface. For example, over an Xn interface, a handover preparation phase may support No Reset ID and / or a UE Measured TA ID in an Inter-BS LTM. In some case, if separate No L2 reset ID and UE measured TA ID for a serving cell are configured for Layer-3 (L3) handover to a candidate target cell, an issue needs to be solved includes how a target BS allocates an ID for the candidate target cell and how a source BS knows the ID allocation for the candidate target cell.

[0067] Currently, details regarding an MRO for LTM (e.g. including MCG LTM and SCG LTM) have not been discussed yet. Embodiments of the present disclosure aim to resolve the abovementioned issues. Some embodiments of the present application introduce a mechanism of fallback from a RACH-less LTM via an early TA from an LTM command  to a RACH-less LTM via a UE measured TA. In some embodiments of the present application, when a UE performs a RACH-less LTM via an early TA, it is possible that a TAT for an early TA expires before completing LTM, e.g. T304 is running, and the UE may fall back to a UE based TA and start the corresponding TAT. If a TAT for a UE based TA expires while timer T304 is running, the UE may fall back to a CFRA from an LTM cell switch command. Furthermore, the UE can fall back to a CFRA or a CBRA configured by an RRC message. In this case, some RACH information may be reported in a successful LTM or a failed LTM. In these embodiments, assistant information for self-optimisation (SON) purpose may be reported to the network in the case of a failed LTM or successful LTM. In some other embodiments of the present application, separate No Layer-2 (L2) reset ID and UE measured TA ID for a serving cell are configured for L3 handover by a candidate target cell, and a source BS should provide information to a target BS for ID allocation for the candidate target cell.

[0068] In the present application, an LTM command may also be named as "an LTM cell switch command" or the like. A candidate target cell may also be named as "a candidate cell" or "a target candidate cell" or the like. No Layer-2 (L2) Reset ID may also be named as "NoReset ID" or "No reset ID" or the like. A UE measured TA ID may also be named as "UE measured early TA ID, " "UE based measurement TA ID, " "UE based measured early TA ID, " or the like. A UE measured TA may also be named as "UE measured early TA procedure, " "UE measured early TA, " "UE based measurement TA, " "UE based measured early TA, " or the like.

[0069] More details of the embodiments of the present disclosure will be illustrated in the following text in combination with the appended drawings.

[0072] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g. voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0073] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an  Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0074] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0075] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g. S1, N2, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g. via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0076] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g. a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g. a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g. data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0077] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g. via an S1, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network  may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g. a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g. control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g. the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g. one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0078] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g. time resources (e.g. symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g. subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g. wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0079] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g. μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g. 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g. μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g. 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g. μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g. 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g. μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g. 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g. μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g. 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g. μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g. 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0080] A time interval of a resource (e.g. a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for  example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0081] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g. a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g. quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g. quantity) of symbols (e.g. OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g. quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g. applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g. μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g. 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0082] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g. control information, data) . In some  implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0083] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g. at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g. μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g. μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g. μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g. at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g. μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g. μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0084] Figure 2 illustrates an example of a UE 200 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The UE 200 may include a processor 202, a memory 204, a controller 206, and a transceiver 208. The processor 202, the memory 204, the controller 206, or the transceiver 208, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. These components may be coupled (e.g. operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces.

[0085] The processor 202, the memory 204, the controller 206, or the transceiver 208, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in hardware (e.g. circuitry) . The hardware may include a processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof configured as or otherwise supporting a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure.

[0118] A transmitter chain 412 may be configured to generate and transmit signals (e.g. control information, data, packets) . The transmitter chain 412 may include at least one modulator for modulating data onto a carrier signal, preparing the signal for transmission  over a wireless medium. The at least one modulator may be configured to support one or more techniques such as amplitude modulation (AM) , frequency modulation (FM) , or digital modulation schemes like phase-shift keying (PSK) or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) . The transmitter chain 412 may also include at least one power amplifier configured to amplify the modulated signal to an appropriate power level suitable for transmission over the wireless medium. The transmitter chain 412 may also include one or more antennas for transmitting the amplified signal into the air or wireless medium.

[0119] It should be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the components in exemplary NE 400 may be changed, for example, some of the components in exemplary NE 400 may be omitted or modified or new component (s) may be added to exemplary NE 400, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure. For example, in some embodiments, the NE 400 may not include the controller 406.

[0120] Figure 5 illustrates a flowchart of a method related to an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The operations of the method may be implemented by a UE as described herein. In some implementations, the UE may execute a set of instructions to control the function elements of the UE to perform the described functions. In some implementations, aspects of operations 502, 504 and 506 may be performed by UE 200 as described with reference to Figure 2. Each of operations 502, 504 and 506 may be performed in accordance with examples as described herein. A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figures 7-9 as follows.

[0121] At operation 502, the method may include receiving, by a UE, a LTM cell switch command indicating a configuration identifier (ID) related to a candidate cell (denoted as candidate cell #1) configured by a NE to the UE. For example, candidate cell #1 is previously provided by the NE to the UE. Candidate cell #1 may also be named as an LTM candidate cell or the like.

[0122] At operation 504, the method may include determining, by the UE, whether the LTM cell switch command includes an early TA value for candidate cell #1.

[0123] At operation 506, the method may further include performing a LTM cell switch towards candidate cell #1 and starting a mobility timer (e.g. T304) by the UE.

[0124] In some embodiments of the method, if the LTM cell switch command includes the early TA value for candidate cell #1, to perform the LTM cell switch, the UE may perform a RACH-less based LTM cell switch and start a timer (denoted as timer #1) for the early TA value. For example, timer #1 is a time alignment timer (TAT) .

[0125] In some implementations of the method, if timer #1 expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, and if a UE measured TA ID for candidate cell #1 is equal to a UE measured TA ID for a serving cell, the UE may perform the LTM cell switch via a UE measured TA and start a timer (denoted as timer #2) associated with the UE measured TA.

[0126] In an implementation, if timer #2 expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, the UE may perform a RACH based LTM cell switch. For example, a RACH resource used during this RACH based LTM cell switch may be one of:

[0127] (1) a CFRA resource indicated by the LTM cell switch command,

[0128] (2) a CFRA resource configured by an RRC configuration, or

[0129] (3) a CBRA resource configured by the RRC configuration. A specific example is described in Case #aof the embodiments of Figure 7 as follows.

[0130] In some implementations of the method, if timer #1 expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, the UE may fall back from the RACH-less based LTM cell switch to a RACH based LTM cell switch, in response to one of the following:

[0131] (1) if a UE measured TA ID for candidate cell #1 is not equal to a UE measured TA ID for a serving cell;

[0132] (2) if a UE measured TA ID for candidate cell #1 is not configured; or

[0133] (3) if a UE measured TA ID for the serving cell is not configured. A specific example is described in Case #b of the embodiments of Figure 7 as follows.

[0134] In some implementations of the method, if the LTM cell switch command does not include the early TA value for candidate cell #1 and if a UE measured TA ID for candidate cell #1 is equal to a UE measured TA ID for a serving cell, the UE may perform a RACH-less based LTM cell switch via a UE measured TA and start a timer (denoted as timer #3) associated with the UE measured TA. In some implementations, if timer #3 associated with  the UE measured TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, the UE may perform a RACH based LTM cell switch. For example, a RACH resource used during this RACH based LTM cell switch may be one of:

[0135] (1) a CFRA resource indicated by the LTM cell switch command,

[0136] (2) a CFRA resource configured by an RRC configuration, or

[0137] (3) a CBRA resource configured by the RRC configuration.

[0138] In some implementations of the method, if the UE fails to access candidate cell #1 when the mobility timer (e.g. T304) expires, the UE may re-connect to a cell (denoted as cell #1) via an RRC re-establishment or an RRC establishment procedure. Then, the UE may transmit, to cell #1, information indicating that assistant information (denoted as assistant information #1) is available. After receiving, from cell #1, a request for assistant information #1, the UE may transmit assistant information #1 associated with a failure of the LTM cell switch to cell #1. For instance, assistant information #1 may be included in a UE information response message which is transmitted to cell #1. A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figure 8 as follows.

[0139] In some implementations of the method, if the UE successfully accesses candidate cell #1 via the LTM cell switch, the UE may stop the mobility timer (e.g. T304) , and transmit, to candidate cell #1, information indicating that assistant information (denoted as assistant information #2) is available, if a trigger condition for reporting the second assistant information is fulfilled. After receiving, from candidate cell #1, a request for assistant information #2, the UE may transmit assistant information #2 associated with a success of the LTM cell switch. For instance, assistant information #2 may be included in a UE information response message which is transmitted to candidate cell #1. In some implementations, assistant information 2#may be a successful handover report (SHR) . In some other implementations, assistant information 2#may be a successful primary secondary cell group cell (PSCell) report (SPR) . A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figure 9 as follows.

[0140] In some implementations of the method, assistant information #1 and / or assistant information #2 may include information (denoted as information #A) which indicates at least one of the following:

[0141] (1) whether a RACH-less based LTM cell switch via the early TA value included in the LTM cell switch command is performed;

[0142] (2) whether a timer (e.g. TAT) for the early TA value included in the LTM cell switch command expires;

[0143] (3) whether a fallback from the RACH-less based LTM cell switch via the early TA value included in the LTM cell switch command to a RACH-less based LTM cell switch via a UE measured TA occurs;

[0144] (4) whether a fallback from the RACH-less based LTM cell switch via the early TA value included in the LTM cell switch command to a RACH based LTM cell switch occurs; for example, the RACH based LTM cell switch is via one of:

[0145] a) a CFRA indicated by the LTM cell switch command (i.e. CFRA from LTM command) ,

[0147] c) a CBRA configured by the RRC configuration (i.e. CBRA from RRC configuration) ;

[0148] (5) whether a fallback from a RACH-less based LTM cell switch via the UE measured TA to the RACH based LTM cell switch occurs;

[0149] (6) whether a timer (e.g. TAT) associated with the UE measured TA expires;

[0152] (9) whether a fallback from the CFRA indicated by the LTM cell switch command to the CBRA configured by the RRC configuration occurs; or

[0153] (10) whether a fallback from the CFRA configured by the RRC configuration to the CBRA configured by the RRC configuration occurs.

[0154] In some implementations of the method, assistant information #1 and / or assistant information #2 may include at least one of the following contents (denoted as Contents #A) :

[0185] Figure 6 illustrates a flowchart of a method related to an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The operations of the method may be implemented by a NE (e.g. a re-established gNB, a candidate gNB or a target gNB) as described herein. The NE may execute a set of instructions to control the function elements of the NE to perform the described functions. In some implementations, aspects of the operations of the NE may be performed by NE 400 as described with reference to Figure 4. Each of operations may be performed in accordance with examples as described herein. A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figures 8 and 9 as follows.

[0186] At operation 602, the method may include receiving, by a NE from a UE, information indicating that assistant information associated with failed mobility or successful mobility is available. At operation 604, the method may include transmitting a request for the assistant information by the NE to the UE. At operation 606, the method may include receiving, by the NE from the UE, a response including the assistant information associated with an LTM cell switch.

[0187] In some embodiments, if the assistant information is associated with the failure of the LTM cell switch, the UE is configured to re-connect with a cell (e.g. cell #1 as described above in the embodiments of Figure 5) of the NE via an RRC re-establishment or an RRC establishment procedure.

[0188] In some other embodiments, if the assistant information is associated with a success of the LTM cell switch, the UE is configured to switch from a source cell to a candidate cell of the NE via the LTM cell switch. In some implementations, if the assistant information is associated with a success of the LTM cell switch, the response received in operation 606 may be a SHR or a SPR.

[0189] The assistant information received in operation 606 may include the same elements as those (e.g. information #A, information #B, and / or Contents #A) of assistant information #1 or assistant information #2 as described in the embodiments of Figure 5.

[0190] In some embodiments, if the NE is a re-established gNB, the NE may receive the assistant information associated with a failure of the LTM cell switch (i.e. assistant information #1) from the UE. A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figure 8 as follows.

[0191] In some other embodiments, if the NE is a candidate gNB or a target gNB, the NE may receive the assistant information associated with a success of the LTM cell switch (i.e. assistant information #2) from the UE. A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figure 9 as follows.

[0192] It should be noted that the method described in Figure5 or Figure 6 describes possible implementations, and that the operations and the steps may be rearranged or otherwise eliminated or modified and that other implementations are possible, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.

[0193] Figure 7 illustrates a schematic diagram of an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Details described in all other embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 7.

[0194] In the exemplary flowchart as shown in Figure 7, in operation 711, UE 701 may access BS 702, i.e. the serving BS (e.g. BS-CU) . UE 701 may send a measurement report to the serving BS 702. In some examples, the serving BS 702 can be MCG or a master node (MN) . In some other examples, the serving BS 702 can be SCG or a secondary node (SN) .

[0195] In operation 712, BS 702 may determine to initiate L1 / L2 based Inter-cell mobility configuration preparation, i.e. LTM configuration preparation.

[0196] In some embodiments, if BS 702 determines to initiate an Intra-BS LTM cell switch, there may be following operations:

[0197] - BS 702 may be in CU-DU architecture, and include BS-CU and one or more BS-DUs. BS-CU (i.e. source BS-CU) may send a request message, e.g. a UE CONTEXT SETUP REQUEST message, including information of a candidate target cell to a candidate BS-DU. The request for a RACH resource for early TA acquisition may be also included in the request message transmitted to the candidate BS-DU. If the candidate BS-DU decides to accept the request of LTM configuration related to the candidate target cell,  the candidate BS-DU may respond to the BS-CU including RRC configuration (s) for the accepted candidate target cell, e.g. via a UE CONTEXT SETUP RESPONSE message, over F1 interface. This F1 interface response may include one of: (1) a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; (2) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to 0; or (3) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to the TA value of the source cell.

[0198] - If the serving BS 702 is MCG or a MN, the Intra-BS LTM cell switch is an MCG LTM cell switch procedure which is configured for PCell change purpose.

[0199] - If the serving BS 702 is SCG or a SN, the Intra-BS LTM cell switch is an SCG LTM cell switch procedure which is configured for PSCell change purpose.

[0200] In some other embodiments, if BS 702 determines to initiate an Inter-BS LTM cell switch, there may be following operations:

[0201] - BS 702 (i.e. source BS) may send a request message, e.g. a handover request message, including information of a candidate target cell to a candidate BS. The request for a RACH resource for early TA acquisition may be also included in the request message transmitted to the candidate BS. For instance, the request may include:

[0202] (1) an indication to indicate that the request is for an LTM purpose;

[0203] (2) an LTM Configuration ID list;

[0204] (3) a reference configuration; the information element (IE) of "reference configuration" may contain either the request for lower layer reference configuration or the generated lower layer reference configuration used for LTM preparation.

[0205] (4) a CSI Resource Configuration;

[0206] (5) an indication to provide a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; and / or

[0207] (6) LTM BS-DUs List. The IE of "LTM BS-DUs List" contains IDs of the source BS-DU and candidate BS-DU (s) .

[0208] - If the "CSI Resource Configuration" is contained in the "LTM Information Setup" IE included in the UE CONTEXT SETUP REQUEST message, the candidate BS-DU shall (if a CU-DU architecture is supported in the candidate BS) use it to generate the LTM  CSI reporting configuration (s) in the "CellGroupConfig" IE for the requested LTM candidate cell. If the candidate BS-DU decides to accept the request of LTM configuration related to a candidate cell, the candidate BS-DU may respond to the candidate BS-CU including RRC configuration (s) for the accepted candidate target cell over F1 interface. This F1 interface response may include one of: (1) a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; (2) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to 0; or (3) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to the TA value of the source cell.

[0209] - Then, the candidate BS (e.g. candidate BS-CU, which may also be named as "target BS" or "target BS-CU" ) transmits a response, e.g. a handover request acknowledge message, to the source BS 702 (e.g. source BS-CU) , via Xn interface. This Xn interface response may include one of: (1) a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; (2) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to 0; or (3) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to the TA value of the source cell.

[0210] - If the serving BS 702 is MCG or a MN, the Inter-BS LTM cell switch is an MCG LTM cell switch procedure.

[0211] - If the serving BS 702 is SCG or a SN, the Inter-BS LTM cell switch is an SCG LTM cell switch procedure.

[0212] In operation 713, the serving BS 702 transmits the LTM configuration for one or more candidate cells to UE 701. The LTM configuration may also be named as "candidate cell configuration information for LTM, " "configuration for one or more LTM candidate cells" or the like. The LTM configuration may include one or more RACH resources for a RACH based LTM cell switch. The RACH based LTM cell switch may be a CFRA based LTM cell switch and / or a CBRA based LTM cell switch.

[0213] For instance, if a CU-DU architecture is supported, BS-CU of BS 702 may transmit configuration information, e.g. RACH resource (s) for early TA acquisition to source BS-DU of BS 702. The BS-CU may generate an RRC reconfiguration message based on the configuration from the candidate cell and transmit the RRC reconfiguration message to UE 701 in operation 713. The RRC reconfiguration message may include the configuration for  one or more LTM candidate cells and / or one or more RACH resources for early TA acquisition.

[0214] In operation 714, BS 702 transmits an LTM command (which may also be named as "an LTM cell switch command" or the like) to UE 701.

[0215] In some embodiments, UE 701 receives the RRC reconfiguration message associated with one or more LTM candidate cells in operation 713, and the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell (e.g. ltm-ServingCellUE-MeasuredTA-ID) or LTM candidate cell (e.g. ltm-UE-MeasuredTA-ID) may be contained within the RRC reconfiguration message. When UE 701 receives the LTM command towards a candidate cell in operation 714, if the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is equal to the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell, UE 701 is allowed to perform a RACH-less LTM procedure via the UE measured TA. Otherwise, if the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is not equal to the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell, UE 701 may replace the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell with the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell. In the present application, a UE measured TA ID may also be named as "UE measured early TA ID, " "UE based measurement TA ID, " "UE based measured early TA ID, " or the like. A UE measured TA may also be named as "UE measured early TA procedure, " "UE measured early TA, " "UE based measurement TA, " "UE based measured early TA, " or the like.

[0216] In some embodiments, if a CU-DU architecture is supported, BS 702 e.g. BS-DU may transmit a PDCCH order for triggering TA acquisition related to a particular candidate cell to UE 701 in operation 713. Then, UE 701 may transmit the preamble for TA acquisition to BS 702 e.g. a candidate BS-DU upon the reception of PDCCH order. The candidate BS-DU may calculate the TA value based on the reception of preamble from UE 701. Source BS-DU of BS 702 may receive the value of early TA from the candidate BS-DU of BS 702 which calculates the TA value via BS-CU of BS 702.

[0217] In operation 715, different operations may be performed in different embodiments, i.e. Case #a, Case #b, and Case #c as below.

[0218] Case #a: the LTM command received by UE 701 in operation 714 includes an early TA value obtained from a RACH procedure. In Case #a, in operation 715, UE 701  performs a RACH-less based LTM via the early TA from the LTM command and starts a timer for early TA (e.g. timer #1) . If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 701 falls back from early TA from the LTM command to UE measured TA if the UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is equal to the UE measured TA ID for the serving cell. UE 701 will start another timer (e.g. timer #2) for UE measured TA. If timer #2 expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 701 falls back to a RACH based LTM. In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 701 fails again, UE 701 falls back to CFRA from an RRC configuration. Then, UE 701 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0219] Case #b: the LTM command received by UE 701 in operation 714 includes an early TA value obtained from a RACH procedure. In Case #b, in operation 715, UE 701 performs a RACH-less based LTM via the early TA from the LTM command and starts a timer for early TA. If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 701 falls back from early TA from the LTM command to RACH based LTM if UE measured TA ID for candidate cell is not equal to UE measured TA ID for serving cell (or if UE measured TA for candidate cell or serving cell is not configured) . In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE fails again, UE falls back to CFRA from the RRC configuration. Then, UE 701 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0220] Case #c: the LTM command received by UE 701 does not include an early TA value (i.e. without an early TA value) . In Case #c, in operation 715, UE 701 performs a RACH-less based LTM via a UE measured TA and starts the timer for UE measured TA if UE measured TA ID for candidate cell is equal to UE measured TA ID for serving cell. If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 701 falls back from the RACH-less LTM via a UE measured TA to the RACH based LTM. In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 701 fails again, UE 701 falls back to CFRA from the RRC configuration. Then, UE 701 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0221] In operation 716, UE 701 may successfully access the LTM candidate cell, or UE 701 may fail to access the LTM candidate cell if the mobility timer expires.

[0222] Figure 8 illustrates a schematic diagram of an MCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Details described in all other embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 8. Since a failure may happen during an MCG LTM cell switch, the embodiments of Figure 8 refer to a failed MCG LTM.

[0223] In the exemplary flowchart as shown in Figure 8, in operation 811, UE 801 may access BS 802, i.e. the serving BS (e.g. BS-CU) . UE 801 may send a measurement report to the serving BS 802. In some examples, the serving BS 802 can be MCG or a master node (MN) .

[0224] In operation 812, BS 802 may determine to initiate L1 / L2 based Inter-cell mobility configuration preparation, i.e. LTM configuration preparation.

[0225] In some embodiments, if BS 802 determines to initiate an Intra-BS LTM cell switch, there may be following operations:

[0226] - BS 802 may be in CU-DU architecture, and include BS-CU and one or more BS-DUs. BS-CU (i.e. source BS-CU) may send a request message, e.g. a UE CONTEXT SETUP REQUEST message, including ID information of a candidate target cell to a candidate BS-DU. The request for a RACH resource for early TA acquisition may be also included in the request message transmitted to the candidate BS-DU. If the candidate BS-DU decides to accept the request of LTM configuration related to the candidate target cell, the candidate BS-DU may respond to the BS-CU including RRC configuration (s) for the accepted candidate target cell, e.g. via UE CONTEXT SETUP RESPONSE message, over F1 interface. This F1 interface response may include one of: (1) a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; (2) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to 0; or (3) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to the TA value of the source cell.

[0227] - If the serving BS 802 is MCG or a MN, the Intra-BS LTM cell switch is an MCG LTM cell switch procedure which is configured for PCell change purpose.

[0228] In some other embodiments, if BS 802 determines to initiate an Inter-BS LTM cell switch, there may be following operations:

[0229] - BS 802 (i.e. source BS) sends a request message, e.g. a handover request message, including information of a candidate target cell to a candidate BS. The request for a RACH resource for early TA acquisition may be also included in the request message transmitted to the candidate BS. For instance, the request may include:

[0230] (1) an indication to indicate that the request is for an LTM purpose;

[0231] (2) an LTM Configuration ID list;

[0232] (3) a reference configuration; the information element (IE) of "reference configuration" may contain either the request for lower layer reference configuration or the generated lower layer reference configuration used for LTM preparation.

[0233] (4) a CSI Resource Configuration;

[0234] (5) an indication to provide a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; and / or

[0235] (6) LTM BS-DUs List. The IE of "LTM BS-DUs List" contains IDs of the source BS-DU and candidate BS-DU (s) .

[0236] - If the "CSI Resource Configuration" is contained in the "LTM Information Setup" IE included in the UE CONTEXT SETUP REQUEST message, the candidate BS-DU shall (if a CU-DU architecture is supported in the candidate BS) use it to generate the LTM CSI reporting configuration (s) in the "CellGroupConfig" IE for the requested LTM candidate cell.

[0237] - Then, the candidate BS (e.g. candidate BS-CU, which may also be named as "target BS" or "target BS-CU" ) transmits a response, e.g. a handover request acknowledge message, to the source BS (e.g. source BS-CU) , via Xn interface. This Xn interface response may  include one of: (1) a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; (2) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to 0; or (3) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to the TA value of the source cell.

[0238] - If the serving BS 802 is MCG or a MN, the Inter-BS LTM cell switch is an MCG LTM cell switch procedure.

[0239] In operation 813, the serving BS 802 transmits the LTM configuration for one or more candidate cells to UE 801.

[0240] For instance, if a CU-DU architecture is supported, BS-CU of BS 802 may transmit configuration information, e.g. RACH resource (s) for early TA acquisition to source BS-DU of BS 802. The BS-CU may generate an RRC reconfiguration message based on the configuration from the candidate cell and transmit the RRC reconfiguration message to UE 801 in operation 813. The RRC reconfiguration message may include the configuration for one or more LTM candidate cells and / or one or more RACH resources for early TA acquisition.

[0241] In operation 814, BS 802 transmits an LTM command (which may also be named as "an LTM cell switch command" or the like) to UE 801.

[0242] In some embodiments, UE 801 receives the RRC reconfiguration message associated with one or more LTM candidate cells in operation 813, and the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell (e.g. ltm-ServingCellUE-MeasuredTA-ID) or LTM candidate cell (e.g. ltm-UE-MeasuredTA-ID) may be contained within the RRC reconfiguration message. When UE 801 receives the LTM command towards a candidate cell in operation 814, if the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is equal to the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell, UE 801 is allowed to perform a RACH-less LTM procedure via the UE measured TA. Otherwise, if the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is not equal to the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell,  UE 801 may replace the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell with the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell.

[0243] In some embodiments, if a CU-DU architecture is supported, BS 802 e.g. BS-DU may transmit a PDCCH order for triggering TA acquisition related to a particular candidate cell to UE 801 in operation 813. Then, UE 801 may transmit the preamble for TA acquisition to BS 802 e.g. a candidate BS-DU upon the reception of PDCCH order. The candidate BS-DU may calculate the TA value based on the reception of preamble from UE 801. Source BS-DU of BS 802 may receive the value of early TA from the candidate BS-DU of BS 802 which calculates the TA value based on the received preamble via BS-CU of BS 702.

[0244] In operation 815, different operations may be performed in different embodiments, i.e. Case #A, Case #B, and Case #C as below.

[0245] Case #A: the LTM command received by UE 801 in operation 814 includes an early TA value obtained from a RACH procedure. In Case #A, in operation 815, UE 801 performs a RACH-less based LTM via the early TA from the LTM command and starts a timer for early TA (e.g. timer #1) . If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 801 falls back from early TA from the LTM command to UE measured TA if the UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is equal to the UE measured TA ID for the serving cell. UE 801 will start another timer (e.g. timer #2) for UE measured TA. If timer #2 expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 801 falls back to a RACH based LTM. In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 801 fails again, UE 801 falls back to CFRA from an RRC configuration. Then, UE 801 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0246] Case #B: the LTM command received by UE 801 in operation 814 includes an early TA value obtained from a RACH procedure. In Case #B, in operation 815, UE 801 performs a RACH-less based LTM via the early TA from the LTM command and starts a timer for early TA. If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is  running, UE 801 falls back from early TA from the LTM command to RACH based LTM if UE measured TA ID for candidate cell is not equal to UE measured TA ID for serving cell (or if UE measured TA for candidate cell or serving cell is not configured) . In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 801 fails again, UE falls back to CFRA from the RRC configuration. Then, UE 801 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0247] Case #C: the LTM command received by UE 801 does not include an early TA value (i.e. without an early TA value) . In Case #C, in operation 815, UE 801 performs a RACH-less based LTM via a UE measured TA and starts the timer for UE measured TA if UE measured TA ID for candidate cell is equal to UE measured TA ID for serving cell. If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 801 falls back from the RACH-less LTM via a UE measured TA to the RACH based LTM. In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 801 fails again, UE 801 falls back to CFRA from the RRC configuration. Then, UE 801 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0248] In operation 816, UE 801 fails to access the LTM candidate cell if the mobility timer, e.g. T304 expires. UE 801 may re-connect to a new cell via an RRC re-establishment or RRC establishment procedure.

[0249] In operation 817, UE 801 transmits an indication, which indicates that assistant information (e.g. assistant information #1) is available, to the serving cell. The assistant information is associated with the failure of the LTM cell switch, i.e. the LTM failure. The assistant information may also be named as "LTM failure information" or the like.

[0250] In operation 818, the serving cell belonging to the re-established BS (i.e. BS 803) transmits a UE information request message to UE 801 in which UE 801 is requested to report the LTM failure information.

[0285] In operation 820, after receiving the report from UE 801, the re-established BS 803 may transfer the received report to source BS 802.

[0286] Figure 9 illustrates another schematic diagram of an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Details described in all other embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 9. The embodiments of Figure 9 refer to a successful MCG or SCG LTM cell switch.

[0287] In the exemplary flowchart as shown in Figure 9, in operation 911, UE 901 may access BS 902, i.e. the serving BS (e.g. BS-CU) . UE 901 may send a measurement report to the serving BS 902. In some examples, the serving BS 902 can be MCG or a master node (MN) . In some other examples, the serving BS 902 can be SCG or a secondary node (SN) .

[0288] In operation 912, BS 902 may determine to initiate L1 / L2 based Inter-cell mobility configuration preparation, i.e. LTM configuration preparation.

[0289] In some embodiments, if BS 902 determines to initiate an Intra-BS LTM cell switch, there may be following operations:

[0290] - BS 902 may be in CU-DU architecture, and include BS-CU and one or more BS-DUs. BS-CU (i.e. source BS-CU) may send a request message, e.g. a UE CONTEXT SETUP REQUEST message, including ID information of a candidate target cell to a candidate BS-DU.

[0291] - If the serving BS 902 is MCG or a MN, the Intra-BS LTM cell switch is an MCG LTM cell switch procedure which is configured for PCell change purpose.

[0292] - If the serving BS 902 is SCG or a SN, the Intra-BS LTM cell switch is an SCG LTM cell switch procedure which is configured for PSCell change purpose.

[0293] In some other embodiments, if BS 902 determines to initiate an Inter-BS LTM cell switch, there may be following operations:

[0294] - BS 902 (i.e. source BS) sends a request message, e.g. a handover request message, including information of a candidate target cell to a candidate BS. The request for a RACH resource for early TA acquisition may be also included in the request message transmitted to the candidate BS. For instance, the request may include:

[0295] (1) an indication to indicate that the request is for an LTM purpose;

[0296] (2) an LTM Configuration ID list;

[0297] (3) a reference configuration; this IE of "reference configuration " contains either the request for lower layer reference configuration or the generated lower layer reference configuration used for LTM preparation.

[0298] (4) a CSI Resource Configuration;

[0299] (5) an indication to provide a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; and / or

[0300] (6) LTM BS-DUs List. This IE of "LTM BS-DUs List" contains IDs of the source BS-DU and candidate BS-DU (s) .

[0301] - If the "CSI Resource Configuration" is contained in the "LTM Information Setup" IE included in the UE CONTEXT SETUP REQUEST message, the candidate BS-DU shall (if a CU-DU architecture is supported in the candidate BS) use it to generate the LTM CSI reporting configuration (s) in the "CellGroupConfig" IE for the requested LTM  candidate cell.

[0302] - Then, the candidate BS (e.g. candidate BS-CU, which may also be named as "target BS" or "target BS-CU" ) transmits a response, e.g. a handover request acknowledge message, to the source BS (e.g. source BS-CU) , via Xn interface. This Xn interface response may include one of: (1) a RACH resource for early TA acquisition; (2) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to 0; or (3) an indication which indicates that a TA value of the candidate target cell is equal to the TA value of the source cell.

[0303] - If the serving BS is MCG or a MN, the Inter-BS LTM cell switch is an MCG LTM.

[0304] - If the serving BS is SCG or a SN, the Inter-BS LTM cell switch is an SCG LTM.

[0305] In operation 913, the serving BS transmits the LTM configuration for one or more candidate cells to UE 901.

[0306] For instance, if a CU-DU architecture is supported, BS-CU of BS 902 may transmit configuration information, e.g. RACH resource (s) for early TA acquisition to source BS-DU of BS 902. The BS-CU may generate an RRC reconfiguration message based on the configuration from the candidate cell and transmit the RRC reconfiguration message to UE 901 in operation 913. The RRC reconfiguration message may include the configuration for one or more LTM candidate cells and / or one or more RACH resources for early TA acquisition.

[0307] In operation 914, BS 902 transmits an LTM command (which may also be named as "an LTM cell switch command" or the like) to UE 901.

[0308] In some embodiments, UE 901 receives the RRC reconfiguration message associated with one or more LTM candidate cells in operation 913, and the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell (e.g. ltm-ServingCellUE-MeasuredTA-ID) or LTM candidate cell (e.g. ltm-UE-MeasuredTA-ID) may be contained within the RRC reconfiguration message. When UE 901 receives the LTM command towards a candidate cell in operation 914, if the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is equal to the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell, UE 901 is allowed to perform a RACH-less LTM procedure via the UE measured TA. Otherwise, if the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is not equal to the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell, UE 901 may replace the value of UE measured TA ID for the serving cell with the value of UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell.

[0309] In some embodiments, if a CU-DU architecture is supported, BS 902 e.g. BS-DU may transmit a PDCCH order for triggering TA acquisition related to a particular candidate cell to UE 901 in operation 913. Then, UE 901 may transmit the preamble for TA acquisition to BS 902 e.g. a candidate BS-DU upon the reception of PDCCH order. The candidate BS-DU may calculate the TA value based on the reception of preamble from UE 901. Source BS-DU of BS 902 may receive the value of early TA from the candidate BS-DU of BS 902 which calculates the TA value via BS-CU of BS 902.

[0310] In operation 915, different operations may be performed in different embodiments, i.e. Case #X, Case #Y, and Case #Z as below.

[0311] Case #X: he LTM command received by UE 901 in operation 914 includes an early TA value obtained from a RACH procedure. In Case #X, in operation 915, UE 901 performs a RACH-less based LTM via the early TA from the LTM command and starts a timer for early TA (e.g. timer #1) . If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 901 falls back from early TA from the LTM command to UE  measured TA if the UE measured TA ID for the candidate cell is equal to the UE measured TA ID for the serving cell. UE 901 will start another timer (e.g. timer #2) for UE measured TA. If timer #2 expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 901 falls back to a RACH based LTM. In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 901 fails again, UE 901 falls back to CFRA from an RRC configuration. Then, UE 901 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0312] In Case #X, UE 901 may successfully access the LTM candidate cell (i.e. the target cell) via one of: an early TA from LTM command, a UE measured TA, a RACH based on CFRA form LTM command, a CFRA from RRC reconfiguration, or a CBRA from RRC reconfiguration. For example, after UE 901 falls back from an early TA from LTM command to a UE measured TA, UE 901 successfully accesses the target cell via the UE measured TA.

[0313] Case #Y: he LTM command received by UE 901 in operation 914 includes an early TA value obtained from a RACH procedure. In Case #Y, in operation 915, UE 901 performs a RACH-less based LTM via the early TA from the LTM command and starts a timer for early TA. If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 901 falls back from early TA from the LTM command to RACH based LTM if UE measured TA ID for candidate cell is not equal to UE measured TA ID for serving cell (or if UE measured TA for candidate cell or serving cell is not configured) . In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE fails again, UE falls back to CFRA from the RRC configuration. Then, UE 901 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0314] In Case #Y, UE 901 may successfully access the LTM candidate cell (i.e. the target cell) via one of: an early TA from LTM command, a RACH based on CFRA form LTM command, a CFRA from RRC reconfiguration, or a CBRA from RRC reconfiguration. For example, after UE 901 falls back from an early TA from LTM command to a CFRA from RRC configuration, UE 901 successfully accesses the target cell via the CFRA from RRC configuration.

[0315] Case #Z: UE receives LTM cell switch command without early TA value. In Case #Z, in operation 915, UE 901 performs a RACH-less based LTM via UE measured TA  and starts the timer for UE measured TA if UE measured TA ID for candidate cell is equal to UE measured TA ID for serving cell. If the timer for early TA expires while the mobility timer (e.g. T304) is running, UE 901 falls back from RACH-less LTM via UE measured TA to the RACH based LTM. In the RACH based LTM, CFRA from the LTM command will be prioritized if CFRA is included in the LTM command. If UE 901 fails again, UE 901 falls back to CFRA from the RRC configuration. Then, UE 901 falls back to CBRA from the RRC configuration if CFRA from the RRC configuration fails.

[0316] In Case #Z, UE 901 may successfully access the LTM candidate cell (i.e. the target cell) via one of: a RACH-less LTM via UE measured TA, a RACH LTM based on CFRA form LTM command, a CFRA from RRC reconfiguration, or a CBRA from RRC reconfiguration. For example, after UE 901 falls back from a UE measured TA to a CFRA from RRC configuration, UE 901 successfully accesses the target cell via the CFRA from RRC configuration.

[0317] In operation 916, UE 901 may successfully access the LTM candidate cell. And UE 901 may stop the mobility timer, e.g. T304.

[0318] For example, as shown in Figure 9, UE 901 successfully accesses a cell of target BS 903 in case of Inter-BS LTM cell switch in operation 916. The case of Intra-BS LTM cell switch is not shown in Figure 9, but the following similar operations may be performed by UE 901 and BS 902.

[0319] In some embodiments, UE 901 may receive a configuration for a threshold for triggering successful HO report (SHR) or Successful PSCell Report (SPR) , e.g. in operation 911. The SHR may be used to provide the successful handover report if it is triggered based on the successful handover configuration. The SPR may be used to provide the successful PSCell change or addition report if it is triggered based on the successful PSCell change or addition report configuration. For example, the threshold may be a percentage related to a length (e.g. 500 ms) of timer T310, e.g. 60%. UE 901 may determine whether the elapsed time of timer T310 since UE 901 starts timer T310 is greater than the value of 60%*500 ms (i.e. 300 ms) , e.g. in operation 915 or operation 916. If this condition for the SHR is fulfilled, UE 901 may log the parameters of the SHR.

[0320] In operation 917, UE 901 transmits an indication, which indicates that assistant information (e.g. assistant information #2) is available, to the cell of target BS 903. The assistant information is associated with a success of the LTM cell switch, i.e. the successful LTM. The assistant information may also be named as "successful LTM information" or the like.

[0321] In operation 918, the serving cell of target BS 903 transmits a UE information request message to UE 901 in which UE 901 is requested to report the successful LTM information. The UE information request message may include a request for the LTM information report.

[0322] In operation 919, UE 901 transmits the assistant information related to successful LTM to the serving cell of target BS 903. The assistant information may be included in a UE information response message. The assistant information related to successful LTM may be included in a SHR or a SPR which is included in the UE information response message.

[0323] In some embodiments, the assistant information related to successful LTM (e.g. assistant information #2) includes at least one of the following:

[0324] (1) Information to indicate whether RACH-less based LTM via early TA from the LTM command is performed.

[0325] (2) Information to indicate whether a timer for early TA included in LTM cell switch command expires. For instance, the assistant information related to successful LTM may further include at least one of the following information:

[0326] - If a CG is configured, the number of attempts for transmission in CG during the period of first timer is included in the assistant information.

[0330] (4) Information to indicate whether a fallback from a RACH-less LTM via an early TA from the LTM command to a RACH based LTM via one of the following occurs: a CFRA from the LTM command, a CFRA from an RRC configuration, or a CBRA from the RRC configuration.

[0331] (5) Information to indicate whether a fallback from a RACH-less LTM via UE measured TA to a RACH based LTM via one of the following occurs: a CFRA from the LTM command, a CFRA from RRC configuration, or a CBRA from the RRC configuration.

[0332] - If a fallback to a RACH based LTM occurs, the following information may be reported:

[0357] Figure 10 illustrates a flowchart of a method related to an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The operations of the method may be implemented by a NE (e.g. a source / serving gNB) as described herein. The NE may execute a set of instructions to control the function elements of the NE to perform the described functions. In some implementations, aspects of the operations of the NE may be performed by NE 400 as described with reference to Figure 4. Each of operations may be performed in accordance with examples as described herein. A specific example is described in the embodiments of Figure 12 as follows.

[0358] At operation 1002, the method may include transmitting a request (e.g. a handover request for L3 handover) by a serving NE of a UE to a candidate NE. The request may include a set of IDs related to at least one of "No Layer-2 (L2) reset ID" or "a UE measured TA ID" for multiple candidate cells of the candidate NE.

[0359] At operation 1004, the method may include receiving a response by the serving NE from the candidate NE. The response may include one or more IDs belonging to the set of IDs for one or more candidate cells of the candidate NE.

[0360] At operation 1006, the method may include transmitting a message by the serving NE to the UE. The message may include:

[0361] (1) LTM configuration information for the one or more candidate cells; and

[0362] (2) the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells, wherein the one or more IDs are applied when the UE switches to the candidate cell.

[0363] In some implementations of the method, if the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells are related to the No L2 reset ID:

[0364] (1) If a feature of No L2 reset can be used during switching between two or more candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, the two or more candidate cells are configured (for example, by a candidate NE, e.g. a candidate gNB) with a same ID within the set of IDs. The one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells may be a sub-set of the set of IDs.

[0365] (2) If the feature of No L2 reset cannot be used during switching between any two candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, each of the one or more candidate cells is configured (e.g. by the candidate NE) with a different ID within the set of IDs. Thus, the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells are equal to the set of IDs.

[0366] In some other implementations of the method, if the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells is related to the UE measured TA ID:

[0367] (1) If a UE measured TA can be used during switching between two or more candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, the two or more candidate cells are configured (e.g. by the candidate NE) with a same ID within the set of IDs. The one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells may be a sub-set of the set of IDs

[0368] (2) If the UE measured TA cannot be used during switching between any two candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, each of the one or more candidate cells is configured (e.g. by the candidate NE) with a different ID within the set of IDs. Thus, the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells are equal to the set of IDs.

[0369] Figure 11 illustrates a flowchart of a method related to an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The operations of the method may be implemented by a NE (e.g. a candidate gNB) as described herein.

[0370] At operation 1102, the method may include receiving a request by a candidate NE from a serving NE of a user equipment (UE) . The request may include a set of IDs related to at least one of "No Layer-2 (L2) reset ID" or "a UE measured TA ID" for multiple candidate cells of the candidate NE.

[0371] At operation 1104, the method may include transmitting a response by the candidate NE to the serving NE. The response may include one or more IDs belonging to the set of IDs for one or more candidate cells of the candidate NE. The one or more IDs are applied when the UE switches to the one or more candidate cells.

[0372] In some implementations of the method, if the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells are related to the No L2 reset ID:

[0373] (1) if a feature of No L2 reset can be used during switching between two or more candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, the candidate NE may configure the two or more candidate cells with a same ID within the set of IDs. The one or more IDs may be a sub-set of the set of IDs.

[0374] (2) if the feature of No L2 reset cannot be used during switching between any two candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, the candidate NE may configure each of the one or more candidate cells with a different ID within the set of IDs. Thus, the one or more IDs are equal to the set of IDs.

[0375] In some other implementations of the method, if the one or more IDs for the one or more candidate cells is related to the UE measured TA ID:

[0376] (1) if a UE measured TA can be used during switching between two or more candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, the candidate NE may configure the two or more candidate cells with a same ID within the set of IDs. The one or more IDs may be a sub-set of the set of IDs.

[0377] (2) if the UE measured TA cannot be used during switching between any two candidate cells within the multiple candidate cells, the candidate NE may configure each of the one or more candidate cells with a different ID within the set of IDs. Thus, the one or more IDs are equal to the set of IDs.

[0378] It should be noted that the method described in Figure 10 or Figure 11 describes possible implementations, and that the operations and the steps may be rearranged or otherwise eliminated or modified and that other implementations are possible, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.

[0379] Figure 12 illustrates a schematic diagram of an MCG or SCG LTM cell switch in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Details described in all other embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 12.

[0380] In the exemplary flowchart as shown in Figure 12, in operation 121, UE 1201 may access BS 1202, i.e. the serving or source BS. UE 1201 may send a measurement report to BS 1202. In some examples, MCG LTM can be configured in the case of MCG only or DC.In some other examples, SCG LTM is configured in the case of DC.

[0381] In operation 122, source BS 1202 (e.g. MCG or MN) may determine to initiate L1 / L2 based Inter-cell mobility configuration preparation, i.e. LTM configuration preparation.

[0382] In operation 123, on MCG LTM, source BS 1202 (i.e. source MN) transmits a request message to candidate BS 1203 (i.e. target MN) . For example, candidate BS 1203 transmits a handover request for L3 handover. In some embodiments, source BS 1202 transmits assistant information (i.e. one or more IDs) to candidate BS 1203. For example, the handover request for L3 handover may include a set of IDs related to "No Layer-2 (L2)  reset ID" and / or "a UE measured TA ID" for multiple candidate cells of the candidate BS 1203.

[0383] In operation 124, candidate BS 1203 configures LTM candidate cells based on the received assistant information in the request.

[0384] In operation 124, different operations may be performed in different embodiments, i.e. Case #1, Case #2, and Case #3 as below.

[0385] Case #1: following operations are performed.

[0386] (1) Source BS 1202 provides a UE measured TA ID list (or a UE measured TA ID range) for one or more candidate cells (i.e. a candidate cell list) to candidate BS 1203. Then, candidate BS 1203 will configure a UE measured TA ID for the one or more candidate cells. If a UE measured TA can be used for switching from candidate cell #1 to candidate cell #2, the same ID can be configured to both candidate cell #1 and candidate cell#2.

[0387] a) In an example, source BS 1202 provides a list of UE measured TA IDs, e.g. 2, 3, and 5, to three candidate cells of candidate BS 1203 (e.g. candidate cell #1, candidate cell #2 and candidate cell #3) . If a UE measured TA can be used between candidate cell #1 and candidate cell #2, candidate BS 1203 configures the same UE measured TA ID, e.g. 2, to both candidate cell #1 and candidate cell #2. If a UE measured TA cannot be used between candidate cell #1 and candidate cell #3, candidate BS 1203 configures another UE measured TA ID, e.g. 3, to candidate cell #3.

[0388] Case #2: following operations are performed.

[0389] (1) Source BS 1202 provides a No L2 reset ID list (or a No L2 reset ID range) for one or more candidate cells (i.e. a candidate cell list) to candidate BS 1203. Then, candidate BS 1203 will configure a No L2 reset ID for the one or more candidate cells. If the feature of No L2 reset (UE 1201 does not perform RLC re-establishment) can be used for switching from one candidate cell to another candidate cell, the same ID for No L2 reset, e.g. ltm-ServingCellNoResetID, can be configured to these two candidate cells.

[0390] a) For example, source BS 1202 provides a list of no reset IDs, e.g. 2, 3, and 5, to three candidate cells of candidate BS 1203 (e.g. candidate cell #1, candidate cell #2 and candidate cell #3) . If the feature of No L2 reset (UE 1201 does not perform RLC  re-establishment) can be used between candidate cell #1 and candidate cell #2, candidate BS 1203 configures the same No L2 reset ID, e.g. 2, to both candidate cell #1 and candidate cell #2. If No L2 reset ID cannot be used between candidate cell #1 and candidate cell #3, candidate BS 1203 configures another No L2 reset ID, e.g. 3, to candidate cell #3.

[0391] Case #3: all the operations performed in both Case #1 and Case #2 are performed. In particular, following operations are performed in Case #3.

[0392] (1) Source BS 1202 provides a UE measured TA ID list (or a UE measured TA ID range) for one or more candidate cells (i.e. a candidate cell list) to candidate BS 1203. Then, candidate BS 1203 will configure a UE measured TA ID for the one or more candidate cells. If a UE measured TA can be used for switching from candidate cell #1 to candidate cell #2, the same ID can be configured to both candidate cell #1 and candidate cell#2.

[0393] (2) Source BS 1202 also provides a No L2 reset ID list (or a No L2 reset ID range) for one or more candidate cells (i.e. a candidate cell list) to candidate BS 1203.

[0394] In operation 125, on MCG LTM, candidate BS 1203 (i.e. target MN) transmits a response to source BS 1202 (i.e. source MN) . On SCG LTM, target SN transmits a response to source BS 1202 (i.e. source MN) . The response may include one or more IDs belonging to the set of IDs (provided by source BS 1202) for one or more candidate cells of the candidate NE. For example, candidate BS 1203 may add the ID information, e.g. ltm-ServingCellUE-MeasuredTA-ID or ltm-ServingCellNoResetID in the response.

[0395] In operation 126, source BS 1202 (i.e. source MN) will transmit the configuration related to one candidate cells (e.g. candidate cell #3) to UE 1201. In some embodiments, source BS 1202 generates an RRC Reconfiguration message based on the configuration received from candidate BS 1203 and transmit the RRC Reconfiguration message to UE 1201 via source DU. The RRC Reconfiguration message may include:

[0396] (1) an ID for LTM UE measured TA, e.g. ltm-UE-MeasuredTA-ID for candidate cell#3; and / or

[0397] (2) an ID for No L2 reset, e.g. ltm-NoResetID for candidate cell#3.

[0398] In some embodiments, if a UE measured TA can be used to the cell switching from candidate cell #1 to candidate #3, the same ID for UE measured TA should be set to candidate #3. For example, the UE measured TA ID for candidate cell#1 is 5, the UE measured TA ID for candidate cell #3 should be set to 5 as well.

[0399] Then, UE 1201 may receive the RRC configuration message associated with the one candidate cell (e.g. candidate cell#3) for LTM configuration in operation 126.
