[0007] Technical issues
[0008] Whether using air cooling or liquid cooling plates, the heat dissipation effect on battery modules is not ideal. This is especially true for heat dissipation between two adjacent cells in a battery module. [0013] The energy storage system includes a monitoring device, multiple battery modules, and an immersion liquid cooling device. The monitoring device is fixed outside the cabinet. The wiring harness in the monitoring device passes through the wall panel of the cabinet and extends into the immersion liquid and is connected to the multiple battery modules. [0035] Example 1
[0036] Energy storage systems are typically composed of a cabinet and multiple battery modules stored within the cabinet, with the multiple battery modules connected in series and / or in parallel. In related technologies, there are two main heat dissipation methods for the battery modules within the cabinets of energy storage systems: air cooling or liquid cooling. Both air cooling and liquid cooling have unsatisfactory heat dissipation effects on the battery modules. In particular, for heat dissipation between two adjacent batteries in a battery module, the cold air and liquid cooling plates of air cooling cannot reach the gaps between two adjacent batteries in the battery module for heat dissipation, posing a significant safety hazard.
[0037] As shown in Figures 1 to 5, this embodiment provides an immersion liquid cooling device 1000. The immersion liquid cooling device 1000 includes a cabinet 100, a refrigeration mechanism 200, a circulation drive mechanism 300, and a flow guide assembly. The cabinet 100 has a cavity configured to accommodate immersion liquid, in which a battery module 2000 is installed. The flow guide assembly has a flow guide port 112, which is opposite to the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100 in the battery module 2000. The circulation drive mechanism 300 is in communication with the flow guide assembly and is configured to drive the immersion liquid to flow through the flow guide assembly and then into the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100. The refrigeration mechanism 200 is configured to cool the immersion liquid.
[0038] The immersion liquid cooling device 1000 accommodates the battery module 2000 and the immersion liquid in the cavity of the cabinet 100, and aligns the guide port 112 of the guide component with the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100 in the battery module 2000. On the basis of the immersion liquid being cooled by the refrigeration mechanism 200, the circulation drive mechanism 300 is used to drive the immersion liquid to flow through the guide component and then into the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100, thereby realizing heat exchange among the refrigeration mechanism 200, the immersion liquid and the battery module 2000, and thus achieving effective heat dissipation of the gap between two connected batteries 2100 in the battery module 2000, thereby ensuring sufficient heat dissipation of each position in the battery module 2000, having good heat dissipation effect and high heat dissipation efficiency, and improving the safety of the battery module 2000.
[0039] The diversion assembly includes a tray 110 configured to support the battery modules 2000. The tray 110 has a cavity 111 that communicates with a diversion port 112. When the circulation drive mechanism 300 drives the immersion liquid to circulate, the immersion liquid first flows into the cavity 111 within the tray 110. After the immersion liquid fills the cavity 111, the immersion liquid in the cavity 111 is discharged along the diversion port 112 and flows into the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100.
[0040] In one embodiment, the battery module 2000 includes a plurality of batteries 2100, with a gap provided between each two adjacent batteries 2100. The tray 110 has a plurality of diverter ports 112 disposed along the arrangement direction of the batteries 2100, with each diverter port 112 corresponding to a gap between two adjacent batteries 2100. By providing a plurality of diverter ports 112 on the tray 110 along the arrangement direction of the batteries 2100, each diverter port 112 communicating with the cavity 111 and ensuring that each diverter port 112 corresponds to a gap between two adjacent batteries 2100, heat can be dissipated from the gap between any two adjacent batteries 2100 in the battery module 2000, thereby improving the overall heat dissipation effect of the battery module 2000.
[0041] In addition, multiple trays 110 are spaced apart within the cabinet 100. Each tray 110 is provided with a cavity 111 and a diversion port 112 communicating with the cavity 111. Each tray 110 supports at least one group of battery modules 2000. Each diversion port 112 corresponds to the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100 within the battery module 2000. The diversion duct 320 is provided with multiple diversion branch pipes 321. The diversion branch pipes 321 are arranged one-to-one with each tray 110, and each diversion branch pipe 321 is communicated with the cavity 111 within a tray 110. By providing multiple trays 110 within the cabinet 100, each tray 110 supports at least one group of battery modules 2000, and providing multiple diversion branch pipes 321 on the diversion duct 320, each diversion branch pipe 321 corresponding to a tray 110, multiple battery modules 2000 can be cooled and dissipated simultaneously, achieving a good integration effect.
[0042] As shown in Figures 1, 2, 3, and 5, in this embodiment, eight trays 110 are arranged in the cabinet 100 at intervals along the vertical direction. Each tray 110 supports a group of battery modules 2000. Each battery module 2000 includes 19 stacked batteries 2100. Therefore, each tray 110 is provided with 18 diversion ports 112 that are in communication with the cavity 111. Each diversion port 112 corresponds to a gap between two adjacent batteries 2100. In other embodiments, the number of trays 110, the arrangement of the trays 110, the number of battery modules 2000 supported by each tray 110, and the number of diversion ports 112 in each tray 110 can be adjusted according to actual needs, and this embodiment does not limit this.
[0043] The circulation drive mechanism 300 includes a circulation drive member 310 and a flow guide duct 320. The input end of the flow guide duct 320 is in communication with the circulation drive member 310, and the output end of the flow guide duct 320 is in communication with the cavity 111 within the tray 110. The circulation drive member 310 is configured to drive the immersion liquid to flow sequentially through the flow guide duct 320 and the flow guide assembly, and then into the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100. By providing the flow guide duct 320, which is in communication with the circulation drive member 310 and the cavity 111 within the tray 110, respectively, the circulation drive effect of the circulation drive member 310 on the immersion liquid can be ensured, the efficiency of the immersion liquid flowing into the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100 can be improved, and the heat dissipation effect of the immersion liquid in the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100 can be ensured.
[0044] As an alternative, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the circulation drive mechanism 300 further includes a heat exchanger 330, which can be a direct cooling heat exchanger, an evaporator, or a liquid-liquid heat exchanger. The heat exchanger 330 includes a housing 331, the input end of which is connected to the output end of the circulation drive member 310, and the output end of which is connected to the flow guide pipe 320. The output end of the refrigeration mechanism 200 is at least partially accommodated in the housing 331. By at least partially accommodating the output end of the refrigeration mechanism 200 in the accommodating cavity 331, connecting the input end of the heat exchanger 330 with the output end of the circulation drive 310, and connecting the output end of the heat exchanger 330 with the input end of the guide pipe 320, before the circulation drive 310 drives the immersion liquid to flow into the guide pipe 320, the immersion liquid first enters the accommodating cavity 331 of the heat exchanger 330, and fully contacts and transfers heat with the output end of the refrigeration mechanism 200 in the accommodating cavity 331, thereby ensuring that the immersion liquid entering the guide pipe 320 is fully cooled, thereby improving the heat dissipation effect of the subsequent immersion liquid on the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100.
[0045] In this embodiment, the circulation driving member 310 is a circulation pump, which drives the circulation of the immersion liquid. The circulation pump has a simple structure, is easy to assemble and disassemble, and has a good driving effect.
[0046] To achieve the circulating drive effect of the circulation pump, related technologies typically require the installation of a return line connected to the circulation pump to ensure the circulation of the immersion liquid. However, due to the driving requirements of the return line, the circulation pump will operate at a high power, resulting in large pressure fluctuations within the cabinet 100. Pressure fluctuations can damage the cabinet 100 and rupture the explosion relief valve 140 on the cabinet 100, increasing maintenance costs. The additional installation of a pressure regulating device configured to balance pressure fluctuations will also increase production costs.
[0047] In this embodiment, in order to improve the protection of the cabinet 100 and save production costs and maintenance costs, the circulation drive member 310, the guide pipe 320, and the heat exchanger 330 are all immersed in the immersion liquid. By immersing the circulation drive member 310, the guide pipe 320, and the heat exchanger 330 in the immersion liquid, there is no need to set up an additional return pipe. The circulation drive member 310 immersed in the immersion liquid can directly drive the immersion liquid in the cabinet 100 to circulate along the heat exchanger 330, the guide pipe 320, the cavity 111, and the guide port 112, thereby reducing the driving power of the circulation drive member 310, reducing pressure fluctuations, improving the protection of the cabinet 100, saving maintenance costs, and eliminating the need for an additional pressure regulating device, thereby saving production costs.
[0048] As one solution, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the refrigeration mechanism 200 includes a refrigeration element 210 and a refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The refrigeration element 210 is disposed outside the cabinet 100. The input end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 is connected to the output end of the refrigeration element 210, and the output end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 is connected to the input end of the refrigeration element 210. The refrigeration circulation pipe 220 is partially accommodated in the accommodation chamber 331 of the heat exchanger 330, and the refrigerant circulates between the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 and the refrigeration element 210. By partially accommodating the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 in the accommodation chamber 331 of the heat exchanger 330, connecting the input end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 to the output end of the refrigeration element 210, and connecting the output end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 to the input end of the refrigeration element 210, the circulation of the refrigerant between the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 and the refrigeration element 210 and heat transfer between the immersion liquid and the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 are achieved.
[0049] The refrigeration element 210 inputs the cooled refrigerant into the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 along the input end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The refrigerant flows in the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 and generates heat transfer with the immersion liquid through the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The cooled refrigerant absorbs the heat of the immersion liquid. Then, the heated refrigerant flows back to the refrigeration element 210 along the output end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The refrigeration element 210 cools the heated coolant again, thereby realizing the cooling and heat dissipation of the immersion liquid by the refrigerant.
[0050] In this embodiment, the refrigeration element 210 is a direct cooling element, and the refrigerant can be a fluorinated liquid. The direct cooling element inputs the liquid fluorinated liquid or the gas-liquid mixed fluorinated liquid into the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 along the input end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The liquid fluorinated liquid or the gas-liquid mixed fluorinated liquid flows in the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 and generates heat transfer with the immersion liquid through the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The liquid fluorinated liquid absorbs the heat of the immersion liquid and gradually vaporizes. Subsequently, the gaseous fluorinated liquid or the gas-liquid mixed fluorinated liquid flows back to the direct cooling element along the output end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The direct cooling element again cools the gaseous fluorinated liquid or the gas-liquid mixed fluorinated liquid, thereby achieving cooling and heat dissipation of the immersion liquid by the fluorinated liquid.
[0051] Or in other embodiments, an additional air cooling unit may be provided outside the cabinet 100. On the basis of cooling the refrigerant by the refrigeration component 210, the air cooling unit may be used to cool the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 located outside the cabinet 100 to improve the cooling effect of the immersion liquid.
[0052] To improve the heat exchange efficiency between the coolant and the immersion liquid, fins are provided on the outer surface of the portion of refrigeration cycle pipe 220 submerged in the immersion liquid. The provision of fins on the outer surface of the portion of refrigeration cycle pipe 220 submerged in the immersion liquid increases the contact area between refrigeration cycle pipe 220 and the immersion liquid, thereby improving the heat exchange efficiency between the refrigerant and the immersion liquid within refrigeration cycle pipe 220.
[0053] In addition, in this embodiment, an additional heating device may be provided in the heat exchanger 330 to achieve heating of the battery module 2000, which is not limited in this embodiment. When the battery module 2000 needs to be heated, the heating device and the circulation drive 310 in the heat exchanger 330 are activated. The circulation drive 310 continues to drive the immersion liquid to flow through the accommodating cavity 331, the diversion pipe 320, the cavity 111, and the diversion port 112 in sequence, and then flow into the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100. The heating device heats the immersion liquid in the accommodating cavity 331, so that the immersion liquid flowing into the gap between the two adjacent batteries 2100 heats the gap between the two adjacent batteries 2100, thereby achieving heating of the entire battery module 2000.
[0054] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the input end of the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 extends from the immersion liquid, passes through the wall of the cabinet 100, and is connected to the output end of the refrigeration unit 210. The output end of the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 extends from the immersion liquid, passes through the wall of the cabinet 100, and is connected to the input end of the refrigeration unit 210. By extending both the input and output ends of the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 from the immersion liquid, passing through the wall of the cabinet 100, and being connected to the refrigeration unit 210, the through-gap between the cabinet 100 and the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 is positioned above the level of the immersion liquid. This ensures the normal operation of the refrigeration mechanism 200 while preventing leakage of immersion liquid along the through-gap between the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 and the cabinet 100, thereby improving protection of the immersion liquid within the cabinet 100.
[0055] In this embodiment, the input end of the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 passes through the upper end wall of the cabinet 100 and is connected to the output end of the refrigeration unit 210. The output end of the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 passes through the upper end wall of the cabinet 100 and is connected to the input end of the refrigeration unit 210. In other embodiments, both the input and output ends of the refrigeration cycle pipe 220 may pass through the lower end wall of the cabinet 100 and be connected to the refrigeration unit 210. This only requires ensuring a sealing effect at the location where the cabinet 100 is penetrated to prevent immersion liquid from leaking along the location where the cabinet 100 is penetrated. This is not a limitation in this embodiment.
[0056] As one solution, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, a liquid injection hole 120 and a liquid level detector 130 are further provided at the upper end of the cabinet 100. Immersion liquid is injected into the cavity of the cabinet 100 through the liquid injection hole 120, and the liquid level detector 130 is configured to detect the liquid level of the immersion liquid in the cavity of the cabinet 100. By providing the liquid injection hole 120 at the upper end of the mechanism, the immersion liquid in the cabinet 100 can be injected while preventing leakage of the immersion liquid through the liquid injection hole 120. By providing the liquid level detector 130 to detect the liquid level of the immersion liquid in the cavity of the cabinet 100, accurate liquid injection into the cavity of the cabinet 100 can be ensured, thereby ensuring the normal operation of the immersion liquid cooling device 1000.
[0057] The immersion liquid cooling device 1000 also includes a controller, wherein the controller is connected to the liquid level detection component 130, the refrigeration component 210 in the refrigeration mechanism 200, and the circulation drive component 310 in the circulation drive mechanism 300. The controller can control the start and stop of the refrigeration component 210 in the refrigeration mechanism 200 and the circulation drive component 310 in the circulation drive mechanism 300 according to the detection information of the liquid level detection component 130.
[0058] By setting a liquid filling hole 120, a liquid level detection component 130 and a controller at the upper end of the cabinet 100, when the liquid level detection component 130 detects that the liquid level height in the cabinet 100 is within the preset height range, the liquid level detection component 130 transmits the detection information to the controller, and the controller controls the refrigeration component 210 and the circulation drive component 310 to start according to the detection information to achieve heat dissipation of the battery module 2000. When the liquid level detection component 130 detects that the liquid level of the immersion liquid in the cabinet 100 is lower than the lowest value of the preset height, or higher than the highest value of the preset height, the liquid level detection component 130 transmits the detection information to the controller, and the controller controls the refrigeration component 210 and the circulation drive component 310 to shut down according to the detection information to ensure that the refrigeration mechanism 200 and the circulation drive mechanism 300 operate under normal working conditions, thereby improving the protection of the refrigeration mechanism 200 and the circulation drive mechanism 300.
[0059] In this embodiment, the liquid level detection element 130 is a laser sensor, which has a compact structure, is easy to install, and has high detection accuracy. In other embodiments, the liquid level detection element 130 can also be an ultrasonic sensor or other types of sensors, which is not limited in this embodiment.
[0060] To enhance protection for the cabinet 100 and the battery modules 2000, a ventilation hole 150 is provided at the top of the cabinet 100. The ventilation hole 150 is connected to a ventilation device and is configured to allow gas within the cavity to be discharged through the ventilation hole 150 and / or allow protective gas to enter the cavity through the ventilation hole 150. By providing the ventilation hole on the top of the cabinet 100, the original gas within the cabinet 100 cavity is replaced with protective gas, thereby preventing the original gas within the cabinet 100 from reacting with the immersion liquid, the cabinet 100, or the battery modules 2000.
[0061] During the immersion liquid filling process, the immersion liquid is first injected into the cabinet 100 until the liquid level is within a preset height range. Then, the immersion liquid filling is stopped and the ventilation device is activated. The ventilation device extracts the air from the cabinet 100 and fills the cabinet 100 with protective gas, completing the immersion liquid filling process. In this embodiment, the protective gas is nitrogen, which has stable chemical properties, is widely available, and is inexpensive. In other embodiments, the protective gas may also be other types of protective gases, which are not limited in this embodiment.
[0062] In addition, after the immersion liquid is injected into the cabinet 100, the circulation drive 310 can be started to drive the immersion liquid to circulate in the cabinet 100 to discharge the air in the guide pipe 320, the heat exchanger 330 and the cavity 111. At this time, the liquid level of the immersion liquid will drop, and then the immersion liquid is replenished into the cabinet 100 along the injection hole 120 to make the liquid level of the immersion liquid return to the preset height.
[0063] To facilitate understanding of the immersion liquid cooling device 1000 provided in this embodiment, the assembly steps of the immersion liquid cooling device 1000 are now described with reference to FIG. 1 to FIG. 5 ;
[0064] 1) Assemble the refrigeration mechanism 200 and the circulation drive mechanism 300 with the cabinet 100.
[0065] 2) The battery module 2000 is supported on the tray 110 of the cabinet 100 , and the gap between two adjacent batteries 2100 in the battery module 2000 is aligned with a guide port 112 on the tray 110 .
[0066] 3) Calculate the expansion limit based on the thermal expansion characteristics of the immersion fluid and the usage scenario. Combined with the structural strength of the cabinet 100 and the limit of the pressure relief device, reserve an inflation space inside the cabinet 100. Determine the preset liquid level range of the cabinet 100 based on the immersion fluid loss due to expansion and long-term use.
[0067] 4) Inject immersion liquid into the cabinet 100 along the liquid injection hole 120 until the immersion liquid reaches a preset height range.
[0068] 5) Start the circulation drive 310 to circulate the immersion liquid in the cabinet 100 and exhaust the air in the guide pipe 320 , the heat exchanger 330 and the cavity 111 .
[0069] 6) Turn off the circulation drive 310 and re-inject the immersion liquid into the cabinet 100 along the injection hole 120 until the height of the immersion liquid reaches the preset height range again.
[0070] 7) Connect the ventilation device to the ventilation port 150 to replace the air in the cabinet 100 with protective gas.
[0071] 8) Seal the liquid injection hole 120 and the ventilation hole 150 to complete the sealing inside the cabinet 100.
[0072] 9) Turn on the controller, which controls the subsequent cycle drive element 310 and the refrigeration element 210 to turn on and off.
[0073] This embodiment also provides an energy storage system. The energy storage system includes a monitoring device, a battery module 2000, and an immersion liquid cooling device 1000. The monitoring device is fixed to the outside of the cabinet 100. The wiring harness within the monitoring device passes through the wall of the cabinet 100 and then extends into the immersion liquid and connects to multiple battery modules 2000. The monitoring device is configured to monitor the voltage and current of the battery modules 2000. By utilizing the immersion liquid cooling device 1000, the energy storage system improves the heat dissipation effect between two adjacent batteries 2100 in the battery module 2000, thereby ensuring sufficient heat dissipation at every location within the battery module 2000. This provides good heat dissipation effect and high heat dissipation efficiency, thereby improving the safety of the battery module 2000.
[0074] In this embodiment, the monitoring device is a battery management system (BMS). The BMS wiring harness passes through the upper wall of the cabinet 100 and then extends into the immersion liquid, connecting to multiple battery modules 2000. The structure and operating principles of the BMS are related art and will not be further described here.
[0075] Example 2
[0076] This embodiment provides an immersion liquid cooling device 1000. The structure of the immersion liquid cooling device 1000 provided in this embodiment is basically the same as that of the first embodiment. The difference between the immersion liquid cooling device 1000 provided in this embodiment and the first embodiment is that the type of the refrigeration element 210 is different.
[0077] In this embodiment, the refrigeration element 210 is a liquid-liquid cooling element, and the refrigerant is a liquid cooling medium. The liquid-liquid cooling element inputs the cooled liquid cooling medium into the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 along the input end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The liquid cooling medium flows in the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 and generates heat transfer with the immersion liquid through the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The liquid cooling medium absorbs the heat of the immersion liquid. Then, the liquid cooling medium flows back to the liquid-liquid cooling element along the output end of the refrigeration circulation pipe 220. The liquid-liquid cooling element cools the liquid cooling medium again, thereby realizing the cooling and heat dissipation of the immersion liquid by the liquid cooling medium.
[0078] In this embodiment, the refrigeration element 210 may be a cooling tower and a circulation pump, and the refrigerant may be water. The circulation pump drives the water to circulate between the refrigeration circulation pipe 220 and the cooling tower. In other embodiments, the refrigeration element 210 may be other refrigeration devices, and the coolant may be other liquid cooling media, which are not limited in this embodiment.
