Abstract
Description
Power Modules and Transmission Systems
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a power supply module and a transmission system.
[0002] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Publication No. 2016-036230 discloses a transmission system including a power supply module and a plurality of servo modules. According to the disclosure, the power supply module can supply power to a servo module connected to the power supply module. Another servo module can be further connected to the servo module. The power supply module can also supply power to another servo module connected via the servo module.
[0003] In view of improving reliability, better techniques are desirable.
[0004] A first aspect of the present disclosure is a power supply module that transforms power supplied from an external power supply and supplies the power to an electronic module, the power supply module comprising: a transformer circuit arranged between an input terminal that can be connected to the external power supply and an output terminal that can be connected to the electronic module; a first diode arranged between the input terminal and the transformer circuit and causing a current to flow in a direction from the input terminal to the transformer circuit; a second diode arranged between the transformer circuit and the output terminal and causing the current to flow in a direction from the transformer circuit to the output terminal; and a connection terminal connected to a location between the first diode and the transformer circuit, wherein when the output terminal of a first power supply module that is one of the plurality of power supply modules is connected to the output terminal of a second power supply module that is another of the plurality of power supply modules, the connection terminal of the first power supply module is connected to the connection terminal of the second power supply module.
[0005] A second aspect of the present disclosure is a transmission system including the power supply module and an I / O module that is the electronic module.
[0006] Fig. 1 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of a transmission system. Fig. 2 is a schematic diagram of a transmission system according to Comparative Example 1. Fig. 3 is a schematic diagram of a transmission system according to Comparative Example 2. Fig. 4 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of a transmission system according to Modification Example 1.
[0007] The prior art disclosed in JP 2016-036230 A has at least the following problem. Specifically, there are cases where multiple power supply modules are connected via servo modules. For example, a first servo module is connected to a first power supply module. Subsequently, a second servo module should be connected to the first servo module, but due to human error, the second power supply module is connected to the first servo module. As a result, the output of the first power supply module and the output of the second power supply module are electrically connected via the first servo module. It is undesirable to use the first power supply module and the second power supply module in such a state.
[0008] Based on the above preliminary explanation, the embodiments will be described below.
[0009] The X direction used in the following description corresponds to the arrangement direction of the multiple modules 12 described below. The X direction is, for example, parallel to a horizontal plane, but is not limited to this. The X direction includes an X1 direction and an X2 direction that is opposite to the X1 direction.
[0010] The Y direction used in the following description corresponds to the arrangement direction of the module 12 and the installation member 16 described below. The Y direction is perpendicular to the X direction. For example, the Y direction is parallel to the horizontal plane, but is not limited to this. The Y direction includes the Y1 direction from the installation member 16 toward the module 12 and the Y2 direction from the module 12 toward the installation member 16.
[0011] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of a transmission system 10. As shown in FIG.
[0012] The transmission system 10 is, for example, a system that transmits signals between a control device (not shown) and a plurality of devices 50 controlled by the control device. The control device can control the plurality of devices 50 via the transmission system 10. The control device is, for example, but not limited to, a computer such as a numerical control device provided in a machine tool (not shown). The devices 50 are, for example, but not limited to, sensors provided in the machine tool. As shown in FIG. 1 , the transmission system 10 includes a plurality of modules 12, a partition 14, and an installation member 16.
[0013] The multiple modules 12 are a group of devices separate from one another. The multiple modules 12 are attached to an installation member 16 so as to be aligned along the X direction. The installation member 16 is a member that supports the multiple modules 12. The installation member 16 includes, for example, a rail such as a DIN rail (not shown), but is not limited to this. Partitions 14 may be attached to the installation member 16. A user can install as many modules 12 as necessary along the X direction in an order as necessary.
[0014] The modules 12 include a power supply module 18 and an electronic module 20. The electronic module 20 is, for example, an I / O module. As shown in FIG. 1 , the transmission system 10 may be provided with a plurality of power supply modules 18 (181, 182, 183) and a plurality of electronic modules 20 (201, 202, 203).
[0015] As shown in FIG. 1, the power supply module 18 includes an input terminal 22, an output terminal 24, and a power supply circuit 26.
[0016] An external power supply 28 can be connected to the input terminal 22. The input terminal 22 is provided, for example, on the Y1 direction side of the power supply module 18 (see also FIG. 1), but is not limited to this.
[0017] The output terminal 24 of the power supply module 18 can be connected to a module 12 installed adjacent to the power supply module 18. More specifically, the output terminal 24 of the power supply module 18 can be connected to an input / output terminal 32 of the electronic module 20 or an output terminal 24 of another power supply module 18. A more detailed description of the electronic module 20 will be provided later. As shown in FIG. 1 , the power supply module 18 may be provided with two output terminals 24 (241, 242). One of the two output terminals 24, a first output terminal 241, is provided on the X1 side of the power supply module 18. A module 12 installed in the X1 direction relative to the power supply module 18 is connected to the first output terminal 241 of the power supply module 18. The other of the two output terminals 24, a second output terminal 242, is provided on the X2 side of the power supply module 18. A module 12 installed in the X2 direction relative to the power supply module 18 is connected to the second output terminal 242 of the power supply module 18.
[0018] The power supply circuit 26 is provided between the input terminal 22 and the output terminal 24. The power supply circuit 26 converts the voltage supplied from the input terminal 22 and supplies it to the output terminal 24. The power supply circuit 26 will be described in more detail later.
[0019] As shown in FIG. 1, the electronic module 20 includes a connection interface 30, input / output terminals 32, and a processing circuit .
[0020] The connection interface 30 is provided with, for example, a connector (not shown) that corresponds to the type of device 50. This allows the connection interface 30 to be connected to the device 50. The connection interface 30 is provided, for example, on the Y1 direction side of the electronic module 20. A plurality of devices 50 may be connected to the electronic module 20 via the connection interface 30.
[0021] The input / output terminals 32 of the electronic module 20 are connected to the module 12 adjacent to the electronic module 20. More specifically, for example, when the electronic module 20 and the power supply module 18 are adjacent to each other, the input / output terminals 32 of the electronic module 20 are connected to the output terminals 24 of the power supply module 18. In this case, power may be supplied to the input / output terminals 32 of the electronic module 20 from the power supply circuit 26 of the power supply module 18 via the output terminals 24 of the power supply module 18. As shown in FIG. 1 , the electronic module 20 may be provided with two input / output terminals 32 (321, 322). One of the two input / output terminals 32, a first input / output terminal 321, is provided on the X1 direction side of the electronic module 20. The first input / output terminal 321 is connected to a module 12 installed in the X1 direction relative to the electronic module 20. The other of the two input / output terminals 32, a second input / output terminal 322, is provided on the X2 direction side of the electronic module 20. The second input / output terminal 322 is connected to the module 12 that is installed in the X2 direction relative to the electronic module 20 .
[0022] The processing circuit 34 includes, for example, an integrated circuit (IC) capable of performing signal processing. The processing circuit 34 is disposed between the connection interface 30 and the input / output terminal 32. The processing circuit 34 is also connected to the above-mentioned control device (not shown) via a transmission path such as a serial bus (not shown). The processing circuit 34 performs predetermined processing using power supplied from the power supply circuit 26 of the power supply module 18 via the input / output terminal 32. For example, the processing circuit 34 performs signal processing necessary to relay communication between the device 50 connected to the connection interface 30 and the above-mentioned control device.
[0023] The electronic module 20 further includes a relay terminal 36. The relay terminal 36 is connected to the module 12 adjacent to the electronic module 20. More specifically, for example, if the electronic module 20 and the power supply module 18 are adjacent to each other, the relay terminal 36 is connected to the connection terminal 46 of the power supply module 18. Furthermore, for example, if two electronic modules 20 are adjacent to each other, the relay terminal 36 included in one electronic module 20 is connected to the relay terminal 36 included in the other electronic module 20. As shown in FIG. 1 , the electronic module 20 may be provided with two relay terminals 36 (361, 362). These two relay terminals 36 are connected to each other. However, the two relay terminals 36 are not connected to the connection interface 30 and the processing circuit 34. One of the two relay terminals 36, a first relay terminal 361, is provided on the X1 direction side of the electronic module 20. The first relay terminal 361 is connected to a module 12 installed in the X1 direction relative to the electronic module 20. The other of the two relay terminals 36, a second relay terminal 362, is provided on the X2 direction side of the electronic module 20. The second relay terminal 362 is connected to a module 12 that is installed in the X2 direction relative to the electronic module 20.
[0024] The partition 14 prevents electrical connection between a module 12 installed in the X1 direction relative to the partition 14 and a module 12 installed in the X2 direction relative to the partition 14. The partition 14 may be configured by a terminal module, an insulating plate (insulating sheet), an empty box (a dummy module 12), or the like. The partition 14 is inserted as appropriate between multiple modules 12 lined up in the X direction. In other words, although the number of partitions 14 shown in FIG. 1 is one, multiple partitions 14 may be provided in the transmission system 10.
[0025] Based on the above, the following provides a further explanation of the power supply circuit 26 provided in the power supply module 18. As shown in Figure 1, the power supply circuit 26 includes a transformer circuit 38, a first diode 40, a second diode 42, a protection circuit (input protection circuit) 44, and a connection terminal 46.
[0026] The transformer circuit 38 is disposed between the input terminal 22 and the output terminal 24. The transformer circuit 38 converts the voltage input via the input terminal 22 and outputs the converted voltage toward the output terminal 24. More specifically, the transformer circuit 38, for example, steps down the voltage input via the input terminal 22 and outputs the stepped-down voltage toward the output terminal 24. This allows the power supply module 18 to convert the relatively large voltage supplied from the external power supply 28 into a voltage suitable for operating modules 12 (electronic modules 20) other than the power supply module 18.
[0027] The transformer circuit 38 outputs a voltage corresponding to the voltage input to the transformer circuit 38. The ratio between the voltage input to the transformer circuit 38 and the voltage output from the transformer circuit 38 is constant. This ratio can be set as appropriate, for example, to 0.5. When this ratio is 0.5, the transformer circuit 38 steps down the input voltage and outputs a voltage 0.5 times the input voltage. As such, the transformer circuit 38 (open-loop transformer circuit) that can change the output voltage according to the magnitude of the input voltage has a relatively simple configuration and is relatively easy to manufacture and procure. Therefore, the transformer circuit 38, which is an open-loop transformer circuit, helps to reduce the manufacturing cost of the power supply module 18. Note that multiple transformer circuits 38 are shown in FIG. 1. In this embodiment, the above ratio is uniform among the multiple transformer circuits 38.
[0028] Each of the first diode 40 and the second diode 42 is an element for allowing current to flow in a direction from the input terminal 22 to the output terminal 24. As shown in FIG. 1 , the first diode 40 is disposed between the input terminal 22 and the transformer circuit 38. The first diode 40 can prevent current from flowing from the input terminal 22 to the external power supply 28. In contrast, the second diode 42 is disposed between the transformer circuit 38 and the output terminal 24. The second diode 42 can prevent current from flowing from the output terminal 24 to the transformer circuit 38.
[0029] The input protection circuit 44 is disposed between the input terminal 22 and the connection terminal 46. The input protection circuit 44 is preferably disposed between the first diode 40 and the connection terminal 46 ( FIG. 1 ), but may also be disposed between the input terminal 22 and the first diode 40. The input protection circuit 44 isolates the first diode 40 from the transformer circuit 38 when a current equal to or greater than a predetermined current threshold flows. The predetermined current threshold may be determined in advance, for example, experimentally. The input protection circuit 44 may include, but is not limited to, a switch element, a fuse, or the like. The switch element in the input protection circuit 44 can be turned on and off depending on the current supplied to the input protection circuit 44, thereby switching between a state in which the first diode 40 and the transformer circuit 38 are electrically connected and a state in which the first diode 40 and the transformer circuit 38 are electrically isolated. The fuse that may be provided in the input protection circuit 44 can insulate the first diode 40 from the transformer circuit 38 by blowing when a current equal to or greater than a predetermined current threshold is supplied to the input protection circuit 44 .
[0030] The connection terminal 46 is connected to a location between the first diode 40 and the transformer circuit 38. For example, as shown in FIG. 1 , the connection terminal 46 is connected to a conductor (conductor pattern) 48 that connects the input protection circuit 44 and the transformer circuit 38. The connection terminal 46 is a terminal that can be connected to an adjacent module 12 of the power supply module 18. More specifically, for example, when the power supply module 18 and the electronic module 20 are adjacent to each other, the connection terminal 46 is connected to the relay terminal 36 of the electronic module 20. Furthermore, for example, when two power supply modules 18 are adjacent to each other, the connection terminal 46 of one power supply module 18 is connected to the connection terminal 46 of the other power supply module 18. As shown in FIG. 1 , the power supply module 18 may be provided with two connection terminals 46 (461, 462). One of the two connection terminals 46, a first connection terminal 461, is provided on the X1 direction side of the power supply module 18. The first connection terminal 461 is connected to a module 12 that is installed in the X1 direction relative to the power supply module 18. The second connection terminal 462, which is the other of the two connection terminals 46, is provided on the X2 direction side of the power supply module 18. The second connection terminal 462 is connected to a module 12 that is installed in the X2 direction relative to the power supply module 18.
[0031] The reliability of the power supply module 18 including the above-described power supply circuit 26 is good. This point will be explained below by comparing the embodiment with the following comparative examples (comparative example 1 and comparative example 2).
[0032] FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram of a transmission system 100 (100A) according to a first comparative example.
[0033] 2 , the transmission system 100A includes a plurality of modules 12, one or more partitions 14, and an installation member 16. The plurality of modules 12 may include a plurality of power supply modules 180 and a plurality of electronic modules 200. The power supply module 180 differs from the power supply module 18 at least in that it does not include a connection terminal 46 and an input protection circuit 44. Furthermore, the electronic module (I / O module) 200 differs from the electronic module 20 at least in that it does not include a relay terminal 36.
[0034] As shown in FIG. 2 , the multiple modules 12 include multiple power supply modules 180. Partitions 14 are provided between the multiple power supply modules 180. This prevents the output terminals 24 of the multiple power supply modules 180 from being connected to each other. According to the transmission system 100A, the power supply modules 180 installed in the X1 direction relative to the partitions 14 can supply power to the electronic modules 200 installed in the X1 direction relative to the partitions 14. Furthermore, the power supply modules 180 installed in the X2 direction relative to the partitions 14 can supply power to the electronic modules 200 installed in the X2 direction relative to the partitions 14.
[0035] FIG. 3 is a schematic diagram of a transmission system 100 (100B) according to a second comparative example.
[0036] When the arrangement order of the multiple modules 12 and the partitions 14 included in the transmission system 100A is changed, a transmission system 100B such as that shown in Fig. 3 can be configured. That is, for example, due to human error, the partitions 14 may not be inserted properly, causing the output terminals 24 of multiple power supply modules 180 (1801, 1802) to be connected to each other. The output terminal 24 of the power supply module 1801 and the output terminal 24 of the power supply module 1802 can be connected via the input / output terminals 32 of one or more electronic modules 200 arranged between the power supply module 1801 and the power supply module 1802.
[0037] In this case, the load may be concentrated on the one of the two connected power supply modules 180 that receives the higher input voltage. That is, when multiple external power supplies 28 are used as shown in FIG. 3 , the outputs of the multiple external power supplies 28 may differ. In other words, the voltage input to power supply module 1801 may differ from the voltage input to power supply module 1802. As described above, the ratio of the voltage output from transformer circuit 38 to the voltage input to transformer circuit 38 is constant. Therefore, if the voltage input to transformer circuit 38 (3801) of power supply module 1801 differs from the voltage input to transformer circuit 38 (3802) of power supply module 1802, the output voltages of transformer circuit 3801 and transformer circuit 3802 will differ. For example, if the voltage input to transformer circuit 3801 is higher than the voltage input to transformer circuit 3802, the output voltage of transformer circuit 3801 will be higher than the output voltage of transformer circuit 3802. In this case, the transformer circuit 3801, which has a relatively high output voltage, can supply current to the electronic module 200 via the output terminal 24 of the power supply module 1801. On the other hand, the transformer circuit 3802, which has a relatively low output voltage, cannot supply sufficient current to the electronic module 200. As a result, power supply to all of the electronic modules 200 connected to the power supply modules 1801 and 1802 is essentially performed solely by the power supply module 1801. This forces the power supply module 1801 to output excessive power that exceeds its rated power, putting it into an overload state that makes it prone to failure.
[0038] Taking Comparative Examples 1 and 2 into consideration, the effects that can be achieved by the power supply module 18 according to this embodiment will be described below. That is, according to this embodiment, when the output terminals 24 of two power supply modules 18 are connected to each other, the connection terminals 46 of the two power supply modules 18 are also connected to each other. For example, FIG. 1 shows a first power supply module 181 and a second power supply module 182. The first power supply module 181 is one of a plurality of power supply modules 18. The second power supply module 182 is a power supply module 18 separate from the first power supply module 181. When the output terminal 24 of the first power supply module 181 is connected to the output terminal 24 of the second power supply module 182, the connection terminal 46 of the first power supply module 181 is connected to the connection terminal 46 of the second power supply module 182. This reduces (eliminates) the difference between the voltage input to the transformer circuit 38 (381) of the first power supply module 181 and the voltage input to the transformer circuit 38 (382) of the second power supply module 182.
[0039] As a result, the difference between the output voltage of the transformer circuit 381 and the output voltage of the transformer circuit 382 is also reduced (eliminated). This makes the current supplied to the output terminal 24 of the first power supply module 181 and the current supplied to the output terminal 24 of the second power supply module 182 equal in amount. In other words, the load on the first power supply module 181 and the load on the second power supply module 182 are equalized. This prevents either the first power supply module 181 or the second power supply module 182 from falling into an overload state.
[0040] Furthermore, according to this embodiment, the power supply module 18 can further achieve the effects described below.
[0041] The power supply module 18 is provided with a power supply circuit 26. The power supply circuit 26 includes a first diode 40. The first diode 40 is disposed between the input terminal 22 and a connection terminal 46 of the power supply module 18. The first diode 40 prevents current from flowing from the input terminal 22 toward the external power supply 28. This prevents current from flowing from one of the two external power supplies 28 connected to the two power supply modules 18 to the other when the connection terminals 46 of the two power supply modules 18 are connected to each other. As a result, the risk of the external power supply 28 failing is reduced.
[0042] The power supply circuit 26 includes a second diode 42. The second diode 42 is disposed between the transformer circuit 38 and the output terminal 24. The second diode 42 prevents current from flowing from the output terminal 24 toward the transformer circuit 38. This prevents current from flowing back into the transformer circuit 38 of one of the two power supply modules 18 when the output terminals 24 of the two power supply modules 18 are connected to each other. As a result, the risk of the transformer circuit 38 failing is reduced.
[0043] The power supply circuit 26 includes an input protection circuit 44. The input protection circuit 44 is disposed between the input terminal 22 and the connection terminal 46. The input protection circuit 44 insulates the input terminal 22 from the transformer circuit 38 when a current equal to or greater than a predetermined current threshold flows. This reduces the risk of the transformer circuit 38 breaking down due to an excessive current.
[0044] The input protection circuit 44 is preferably disposed between the first diode 40 and the connection terminal 46. This allows an excessive current to flow through the input protection circuit 44 of one of the two power supply modules 18 connected via the connection terminal 46. For example, an excessive current flows through the input protection circuit 44 of the first power supply module 181 shown in FIG. 1 . This isolates the input terminal 22 of the first power supply module 181 from the transformer circuit 381. As a result, the power supply from the external power supply 28 connected to the first power supply module 181 to the transformer circuits 381 and 382 is cut off. In this case, the excessive current flowing through the input protection circuit 44 of the first power supply module 181 also flows through the connection terminal 46 of the first power supply module 181 before the first diode 40 of the first power supply module 181 is isolated from the transformer circuit 381. An excessive current also flows through the connection terminal 46 to the input protection circuit 44 of the second power supply module 182. In response to this, the input protection circuit 44 of the second power supply module 182 insulates the first diode 40 of the second power supply module 182 from the transformer circuit 382. This cuts off the power supply from the external power supply 28 connected to the second power supply module 182 to the transformer circuit 381 and the transformer circuit 382. This prevents the load from concentrating on just one of the external power supply 28 connected to the first power supply module 181 and the external power supply 28 connected to the second power supply module 182.
[0045] Furthermore, according to this embodiment, the modules 12 other than the power supply module 18 are provided with relay terminals 36. More specifically, according to this embodiment, the electronic module 20 is provided with relay terminals 36. The connection terminals 46 of two power supply modules 18 can be connected to each other via the relay terminals 36 of one or more electronic modules 20. Therefore, the connection of the connection terminals 46 of the two power supply modules 18 to each other is not hindered by the electronic module 20 inserted between the two power supply modules 18.
[0046] Furthermore, the relay terminal 36 provided in the electronic module 20 is not connected to the processing circuit 34 provided in the electronic module 20. Therefore, the current passing through the relay terminal 36 does not affect the operation of the processing circuit 34. This reduces the risk of the processing circuit 34 malfunctioning or breaking down.
[0047] One embodiment may be modified as follows. In the following modifications, descriptions that overlap with the embodiment will be omitted as appropriate. In addition, in the drawings used in the following modifications, the same reference numerals are used for the same components as those described in the embodiment.
[0048] (Modification 1) FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of a transmission system 10 (transmission system 10A) according to Modification 1.
[0049] The transmission system 10A includes a plurality of modules 12 and an installation member 16 (installation member 16A) according to this modification. The plurality of modules 12 are attached to the installation member 16A. As a result, the plurality of modules 12 are aligned along the X direction. The installation member 16A includes a plurality of first connection circuits 52 and a plurality of second connection circuits 54. The output terminal 24 and the connection terminal 46 are provided on the Y2 side of the power supply module 18. The input / output terminal 32 and the relay terminal 36 are provided on the Y2 side of the electronic module 20.
[0050] The multiple first connection circuits 52 are arranged side by side along the X direction, which is the extension direction of the installation member 16A. Each of the multiple first connection circuits 52 is provided with a transmission path (conductive path) connecting two adjacent modules 12. More specifically, the output terminal 24 of the power supply module 18 or the input / output terminal 32 of the electronic module 20 can be connected to the first connection circuit 52. In this manner, for example, when the power supply module 18 and the electronic module 20 are adjacent to each other, the output terminal 24 of the power supply module 18 can be connected to the input / output terminal 32 of the electronic module 20 via the first connection circuit 52. Furthermore, for example, when two electronic modules 20 are adjacent to each other, the input / output terminals 32 of the two electronic modules 20 can be connected to each other via the first connection circuit 52.
[0051] The multiple second connection circuits 54 are arranged side by side along the X direction, which is the extension direction of the installation member 16A. Each of the multiple second connection circuits 54 is provided with a transmission path (conductive path) connecting two adjacent modules 12. More specifically, the connection terminals 46 of the power supply modules 18 or the relay terminals 36 of the electronic modules 20 can be connected to the second connection circuits 54. In this manner, for example, when the power supply module 18 and the electronic module 20 are adjacent to each other, the connection terminals 46 of the power supply module 18 and the relay terminals 36 of the electronic module 20 can be connected via the second connection circuits 54. Furthermore, for example, when two electronic modules 20 are adjacent to each other, the relay terminals 36 of the two electronic modules 20 can be connected to each other via the second connection circuits 54.
[0052] According to this modified example, when the output terminals 24 of two power supply modules 18 are connected to each other via the first connection circuit 52, the connection terminals 46 of the two power supply modules 18 are necessarily connected to each other via the second connection circuit 54.
[0053] (Modification 2) The electronic module 20 is not limited to an I / O module.
[0054] (Modification 3) The electronic module 20 may supply power to the device 50 .
