Abstract
Description
Communication lines and communication systems
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a communication line and a communication system, and more particularly, to a communication line and a communication system using the same.
[0002] Communication lines made of dielectrics are cheaper to manufacture than conductor-based communication lines and are easier to install and manage than optical-based communication lines, so they can be efficiently utilized for chip-to-chip communication.
[0003] However, conventional communication lines suffer from the problem of excessive leakage of signals propagated internally. Consequently, signals propagated through conventional communication lines become incomplete. Furthermore, longer lines result in greater signal attenuation, leading to cumulative signal loss and potentially causing noise in electronic devices surrounding the lines.
[0004] Furthermore, chip-to-chip communication can occur within confined spaces like server or computer cases, but conventional communication lines suffer from the problem of excessive bending force. Consequently, conventional communication lines cannot be easily reshaped, making them difficult to use in confined or complex spaces.
[0005] Meanwhile, the background technology described above is technical information that the inventor possessed for the purpose of deriving the present invention or acquired during the process of deriving the present invention, and cannot necessarily be said to be publicly known technology disclosed to the general public prior to the application for the present invention.

[0051] Hereinafter, the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings.
[0052] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a communication line according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the communication line according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0053] First, referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a communication line (100) includes a dielectric core (110) extending in the longitudinal direction, a plurality of ribs (120) formed by extending from an outer surface of the dielectric core (110) and extending in the longitudinal direction along the dielectric core (110), and a plurality of wing portions (130) formed by extending from each of at least two ribs among the plurality of ribs (120). Here, the longitudinal direction may mean the Z direction illustrated in FIG. 1. Meanwhile, each of the plurality of wing portions (130) according to an embodiment of the present invention is spaced apart from each other.
[0054] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure described above, the communication line (100) is easily bendable, making it easy to install even in narrow or complex spaces. Furthermore, when an electromagnetic wave signal is transmitted within the communication line (100), the phenomenon of electric fields leaking out of the communication line (100) can be prevented. Hereinafter, a comparative example will be described with reference to FIG. 3, and the aforementioned effects will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5.
[0055] Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a communication line according to a comparative embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig. 4 is a diagram for explaining the distribution of an electric field when viewed from the longitudinal side when a signal is transmitted on a communication line according to a comparative embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig. 5 is a diagram for explaining the distribution of an electric field when viewed from the longitudinal side when a signal is transmitted on a communication line according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In Figs. 4 and 5, bright areas indicate areas where the electric field strength is strong, and dark areas indicate areas where the electric field strength is weak.
[0056] Referring to FIG. 3, a communication line (10) of a comparative example may include a dielectric core (11) through which an electromagnetic wave signal is transmitted from one side to the other, a cover (13) for protecting the dielectric core (11), and a rib (12) for fixing the cover (13) to the dielectric core (11). In addition, as illustrated, an air layer (14) is formed between the dielectric core (11) and the cover (13) by the rib (12).
[0057] As shown in Fig. 3, the communication line (10) of the comparative example, in which the surface is closed and surrounded by a cover (13), may require excessive force for bending even if it is made of a flexible material.
[0058] On the other hand, referring to FIG. 2, in the communication line (100) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, each of the plurality of wing portions (130) is spaced apart from each other. Accordingly, a thin and long slit (150) having a width equal to the distance (d3) between one end (131a) of the wing portion (130a) extended from the rib (120a) and the other end (133b) of the wing portion (130b) extended from the rib (120b) can be formed.
[0059] When the communication line (100) includes a flexible dielectric material, the return elastic force generated when the communication line (100) is bent can be alleviated by the slit (150). That is, as the slit (150) is formed in the communication line (100), the force consumed when bending the communication line (100) can be significantly reduced. Accordingly, the communication line (100) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure can be more easily adjusted in shape compared to the communication line (10) of the comparative embodiment. Accordingly, the communication line (100) can be easily installed even in narrow or complex spaces.
[0060] Meanwhile, permittivity is a value for the influence of the medium between charges on the electric field when an electric field acts between charges, and depends on the frequency of the electromagnetic wave signal propagating in the dielectric. In addition, when a signal propagates at a predetermined angle from a material with a high permittivity to a material with a low permittivity, the permittivity of each of the two materials, the signal propagation angle, or the frequency of the signal can be adjusted so that the electromagnetic wave signal is totally reflected at the boundary between the two materials. Accordingly, by using the above-described properties, an electromagnetic wave signal received at one end of a dielectric core (110) in a communication line (100) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can be transmitted to the other end of the dielectric core (110) along the longitudinal direction.
[0061] However, referring to Fig. 4, in the case of the communication line (10) of the comparative example, it can be confirmed that an excessive electric field is leaked to the outside. Accordingly, when transmitting an electromagnetic wave signal using the conventional communication line (10), there is a problem that the electric field leaked to the outside is excessive, resulting in a large signal loss. The above-described problem may occur because the electric field leaked from the dielectric core (11) along the rib (12) is concentrated on the cover (13), and the electric field concentrated on the cover (13) is emitted to the outside of the communication line (10).
[0062] Meanwhile, referring to FIG. 5, it can be confirmed that the electric field leaking out from the communication line (100) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure is significantly weaker than that from the communication line (10) of the comparative example. This is because a slit (150) is formed on the outer surface of the communication line (100) of the present disclosure. Specifically, if a slit (150) is formed on the outer surface of the communication line (100), each of the plurality of wing parts (130) is formed to be spaced apart from each other, so that the electric field is not excessively concentrated on the outer surface of the communication line (100), and thus the phenomenon of the electric field leaking out from the communication line (10) can be alleviated.
[0063] Therefore, according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the communication line (100) can be easily bent in various directions as the slit (150) is formed, so that it can be easily installed and adjusted even in narrow or complex spaces, and at the same time, a signal can be transmitted with a low loss rate as the magnetic field does not leak to the outside.
[0064] Meanwhile, a communication system using a communication line (100) will be described with reference to Fig. 6.
[0065] FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating a communication system according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. In FIG. 6, the antenna (660) and the communication line (100) are depicted as being spaced apart from each other, but this is for ease of explanation. In some cases, the antenna (660) may be in contact with the communication line (100).
[0066] Referring to FIG. 6, a communication system (600) includes a communication line (100) and an antenna (660) that outputs an electromagnetic wave signal. Here, the antenna (660) may be a transceiver that can not only output but also receive an electromagnetic wave signal. In this case, as illustrated in FIG. 7, one end of the communication line (100) may face an antenna (660a) that transmits a signal, and the other end may face an antenna (660b) that receives a signal. In this case, the communication line (100) may transmit an electromagnetic wave signal in both directions between each of the antennas (660a, 660b).
[0067] The antenna (660) may be configured to radiate and guide a communication signal. For example, a signal radiator that radiates a wireless signal may be arranged inside the antenna (660). Here, the signal radiator may have a patch shape or a horn shape. Alternatively, the antenna (660) may only guide a communication signal and may not have a signal radiator inside. For example, the antenna (660a) may be connected to a signal generator arranged on a chip and guide a signal output from the signal generator toward one end of the communication line (100). In this case, the antenna (660a) may function as a waveguide that imparts directionality to the wireless signal or adjusts the direction of the signal.
[0068] Meanwhile, the communication system according to the comparative example has a problem in that when a signal is transmitted along a communication line, the electric field leaks out of the communication line along the rib. On the other hand, the communication system according to one embodiment of the present disclosure can solve the aforementioned problem. This will be described with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8.
[0069] FIG. 7 is a diagram for explaining the distribution of an electric field in a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a communication line according to a comparative embodiment of the present disclosure when a signal is transmitted using a communication system according to a comparative embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 8 is a diagram for explaining the distribution of an electric field in a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a communication line according to an embodiment of the present disclosure when a signal is transmitted using a communication system according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0070] Referring to Fig. 7, in the comparative example, the vertical polarization direction or horizontal polarization direction of the electromagnetic wave coincides with the direction in which the rib (12) extends. As described above, since electromagnetic waves have the property of propagating along the dielectric, when the extension direction of the rib coincides with the vertical polarization direction or horizontal polarization direction of the electromagnetic wave, the electric field leakage phenomenon is maximized.
[0071] On the other hand, referring to FIG. 8, in a communication system (600) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a communication line (100) is installed such that a plurality of ribs (120) extending from a dielectric core (110) are intersected with the horizontal polarization direction or the vertical polarization direction of an electromagnetic wave signal in order to prevent a signal transmitted inside the communication line (100) from leaking out of the communication line (100). Here, the electromagnetic wave is composed of an electric field (E-field) and a magnetic field (H-field) that vibrate perpendicular to each other, and the horizontal polarization direction of the electromagnetic wave signal can be either the electric field vibration direction or the magnetic field vibration direction, and the vertical polarization direction can be the other.
[0072] It can be confirmed that the electric field leaking out of the communication line (100) according to the embodiment of the present disclosure illustrated in FIG. 8 is significantly weaker than the electric field leaking out of the communication line (10) according to the comparative embodiment of the present disclosure illustrated in FIG. 7. Accordingly, if the communication line (100) is installed such that the horizontal polarization direction or the vertical polarization direction of the electromagnetic wave is opposite to the direction in which the plurality of ribs (120) extend, the electric field leaking out of the communication line (100) in the communication system (600) can be significantly reduced.
[0073] Furthermore, in a communication system (600) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the communication line (100) may be installed such that the direction in which the plurality of ribs (120) extend from the dielectric core (110) forms an angle of 45° with respect to the horizontal polarization direction or the vertical polarization direction. More preferably, the direction in which the plurality of ribs (120) extend may form an angle of 45° with respect to both the horizontal polarization direction and the vertical polarization direction. In this case, since the polarization direction of the ribs (120) and the electromagnetic wave is maximally offset, electric field leakage may be minimized.
[0074] Meanwhile, in a communication system (600) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, since the electric field leaking out of the communication line (100) is reduced, the signal attenuation width according to the length of the communication line (100) can also be significantly reduced. This will be described with reference to FIG. 9.
[0075] FIG. 9 is a graph for comparing signal attenuation according to the length of a communication line when a signal is transmitted in each of a communication system according to an embodiment of the present disclosure and a communication system according to a comparative embodiment.
[0076] Referring to FIG. 9, compared to the loss characteristics (973) of a signal transmitted in a communication system according to a comparative example in which the signal attenuation width increases as the length of the communication line increases, it can be confirmed that the loss characteristics (971) of a signal transmitted in a communication system according to an embodiment of the present disclosure have a relatively small signal attenuation width even when the length of the communication line (100) increases. Accordingly, if the communication line (100) and communication system (600) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure are used, the electric field does not leak out of the communication line (100), so the signal attenuation width according to distance is significantly reduced, and thus a signal can be transmitted over a longer distance with less loss.
[0077] Referring again to FIGS. 1 and 2, when each of the plurality of wing portions (130) is spaced apart from each other to form a slit (150), the outer surface of the dielectric core (110) may come into contact with the air outside the communication line (100) through the slit (150). That is, the air layer (140) between the outer surface of the dielectric core (110) and the plurality of wing portions (130) may be in communication with the air outside the communication line (100).
[0078] Since the material of the dielectric core (110) is a material having a higher permittivity than air, as described above, the electromagnetic wave signal transmitted from the dielectric core (110) can be totally reflected within the dielectric core (110) without leaking out of the air layer (140). That is, according to an embodiment of the present invention, the air layer (140) can prevent the electromagnetic wave signal transmitted through the dielectric core (110) from leaking out of the dielectric core (110).
[0079] Meanwhile, in a communication line (100) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the dielectric core (110), the plurality of ribs (120), and the plurality of wing portions (130) may be formed integrally. In this case, the manufacturing process of the communication line (100) can be greatly simplified, thereby reducing manufacturing costs and time. For example, the communication line (100) may be manufactured through only one injection molding process using one dielectric material.
[0080] Meanwhile, in a communication line (100) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the dielectric core (110), the plurality of ribs (120), and the plurality of wing parts (130) may be made of the same dielectric material. In this case, since the dielectric constant is the same in all parts of the communication line (100), it may be easy to adjust the frequency so that the signal transmitted from the dielectric core (110) does not leak into the air layer (140).
[0081] In some cases, in the communication line (100) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the dielectric core (110), the plurality of ribs (120), and the plurality of wing portions (130) may be formed of the same flexible dielectric material. In this case, since the force required for bending is the same in all parts of the communication line (100), the shape of the communication line (100) can be easily changed. Accordingly, even in a narrow space, the communication line (100) can be installed in various shapes to connect chips to chips.
[0082] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the dielectric core (110) may have a hollow tubular shape. For example, a central hole (111) may be formed inside the dielectric core (110). In addition, the outer surface of the dielectric core (110) and the central hole (111) may have a circularly extended shape. In this case, as illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the dielectric core (110) and the central hole (111) may share a central axis. However, the shape and position of the dielectric core (110) and the central hole (111) are not limited thereto. For example, a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the central hole (111) may have a polygonal shape, and may be formed at a location off the central axis of the dielectric core (110).
[0083] When the dielectric core (110) has a hollow tube shape as in the above-described embodiment, a wireless signal transmitted to one side of the dielectric core (110) through an antenna in the above-described communication system (600) can be transmitted to the other side of the dielectric core (110) through a hole. Accordingly, the amount of signal leaking out of the dielectric core (110) can be reduced, thereby reducing signal loss. In addition, when the communication line (100) includes a flexible dielectric, a hole is formed inside the dielectric core (110), so that the communication line (100) can be flexibly bent with little force.
[0084] Meanwhile, the number of ribs (120) according to the embodiment of the present invention may be plural. In addition, the ribs (120) may be formed to extend outward along the radial direction of the dielectric core (110). For example, referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, the number of ribs (120) may be four. Each of the four ribs (120) according to the embodiment of the present invention may be formed along the radial direction of the dielectric core (110). Here, the radial direction of the dielectric core (110) may be a direction radiating outward from the center of the dielectric core (110).
[0085] Additionally, the four ribs (120) described above may be formed at equal intervals. Furthermore, the four ribs (120) may extend perpendicularly to each of the adjacent ribs. For example, rib (120a) may extend perpendicularly to the adjacent rib (120b). Additionally, the intervals (d3) between the plurality of wing portions (130) may also be equal.
[0086] According to the above-described embodiment, the communication line (100) can have a strong supporting force against external force. If the communication line (100) includes a flexible dielectric, the communication line (100) can be firmly and flexibly bent up and down (Y direction) and left and right (X direction). In addition, since the intervals between the plurality of wing parts (130) are the same, the shape of the cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the communication line (100) can be radially symmetrical, i.e., rotational symmetry. Accordingly, since the force consumed when the communication line (100) is bent up and down and left and right is the same, the shape of the communication line (100) can be easily changed.
[0087] Meanwhile, referring to FIG. 2, the ratio of the distance (d1) from the central axis of the dielectric core (110) to the outer surface of the dielectric core (110) and the distance (d2) from the outer surface of the dielectric core (110) to the plurality of wing portions (130) may be the same in all radial directions of the dielectric core (110). Accordingly, the same force is required to bend the communication line (100) in various directions, making installation easy.
[0088] In addition, since the communication line (100) transmits electromagnetic waves having a specific wavelength, if the ratio of d1 and d2 differs depending on the radial direction of the dielectric core (110), the transmitted or leaked signal may be concentrated on one side, causing distortion in the signal transmission. Therefore, according to the above-described embodiment, it is also possible to reduce distortion occurring in the transmitted signal.
[0089] Meanwhile, referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, each of the plurality of wing portions (130) may be bent and extended from the outer end of the rib (120) to both sides of the circumference of the dielectric core (110). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 5, each of the plurality of wing portions (130) may be bent and extended in the shape of an arc sharing the center of the dielectric core (110). In this case, since the cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the communication line (100) may resemble a circle, the communication line (100) can be easily bent in various directions. Accordingly, the communication line (100) can be installed in a narrow and complex space.
[0090] Furthermore, each of the plurality of wing sections (130) that are bent and extended in this manner on both sides may have a shape that is symmetrical on both sides with the rib (120) as the center. In this case, since the communication line (100) is structurally stable, deformation or distortion does not easily occur, and thus the service life can be extended.
[0091] Below, various embodiments other than the above-described embodiments will be described.
[0092] FIG. 10 is a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a communication line according to another embodiment of the present invention.
[0093] Referring to FIG. 10, each of the plurality of wing portions (1030) may be formed to extend to one side from the outer end of the rib (1020). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 10, the extended wing portions (1030) may be formed to be bent in the circumferential direction of the dielectric core (1010). In addition, as illustrated in FIG. 10, the plurality of wing portions (1030) may all extend in the same direction.
[0094] FIG. 11 is a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a communication line according to another embodiment of the present invention.
[0095] Referring to FIG. 11, each of the plurality of wing portions (1130) may be formed to extend to one side (not shown) or both sides of the circumference of the dielectric core (1110) between the outer surface of the dielectric core (1110) and the outer end of the rib (1120). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 11, the wing portions (1130) may be formed on both sides at the midpoint of the rib (1120). In this case, a separate configuration may be coupled to the plurality of ribs (1120) that protrude and extend outward from the plurality of wing portions (1130). For example, a cover for protecting a communication line (1100) may be coupled to the ends of the plurality of ribs (1120).
[0096] Meanwhile, in the case where each of a plurality of wing portions (1130) extends to one side of the circumference of the dielectric core (1110) between the outer surface of the dielectric core (1110) and the outer end of the rib (1120), a description thereof is omitted as it can be clearly understood by a person skilled in the art as described above with reference to FIGS. 10 and 11.
[0097] FIG. 12 is a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a communication line according to another embodiment of the present invention.
[0098] Referring to FIG. 12, the plurality of ribs may include at least two first ribs (1221) each having a plurality of wing portions (1230) formed thereon and at least two second ribs (1223) not having wing portions formed thereon. In addition, as illustrated in FIG. 12, a gap, i.e., a slit (1250), may be formed between the ends of each of the plurality of wing portions (1230).
[0099] Furthermore, referring to FIG. 12, each of the plurality of wing portions (1230) may be extended from the outer end of the first rib (1221) to both sides in the circumferential direction of the dielectric core (1210). In addition, the second rib (1223) may be extended longer than the first rib (1221) in the radial direction of the dielectric core (1210), and a portion of the second rib (1223) may be positioned between the ends of each of the plurality of wing portions. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 12, the end of the second rib (1223) may be positioned in the slit (1250). According to the embodiment described above, since a portion of the second rib (1223) covers a portion of the slit (1250), the problem of foreign matter from the outside of the communication line (1200) settling on the outer surface of the dielectric core (1210) through the slit (1250), thereby deteriorating the quality of the signal, may be alleviated.
[0100] Meanwhile, when multiple components are connected in this specification, it should be understood that the components may be connected not only directly but also indirectly. Accordingly, when multiple components are connected to each other, another component may be connected between the multiple components.
