Abstract
Description
Polypropylene resin composition and molded article manufactured therefrom
[0001] The present invention relates to a polypropylene resin composition and a molded article manufactured therefrom. More specifically, the present invention relates to a polypropylene resin composition having excellent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and a balance of these properties, and having a melange texture, and a molded article manufactured therefrom.
[0002]
[0003] Since the coronavirus pandemic, demand for thermoplastic resin products with antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties has increased. Furthermore, improved exterior properties are required for thermoplastic resin products to be used in automotive interiors.
[0004] Polypropylene resin has excellent chemical resistance, weather resistance, and processability, making it easy to manufacture into injection molded products, films, and blow molded products. It is a widely used material in fields such as electrical components, automobiles, and building materials.
[0005] Copper (Cu) compounds are widely known as materials that impart antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties to these resins. However, when applied to thermoplastic resin compositions, copper compounds are difficult to process and suffer from discoloration and limited colorability due to reduced thermal stability, severely limiting the range of products to which they can be applied.
[0006] Accordingly, there is a need to develop a polypropylene resin composition that has excellent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, impact resistance, rigidity, heat stability, and a balance of these properties, and has a melange texture (a texture with a subtle tone of two or more colors mixed together) and a fiber texture to improve appearance.
[0007] The background technology of the present invention is disclosed in Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2020-0065139, etc.

[0028]
[0029] The present invention has the effect of providing a polypropylene resin composition having excellent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and a balance of these physical properties, and having a melange texture, a fiber texture, and the like, and a molded article formed therefrom.
[0030]
[0031] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail as follows.
[0032] A polypropylene resin composition according to the present invention comprises (A) a polypropylene resin; (B) a styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer; (C) zinc oxide; (D) a silver-based compound; (E) talc; and (F) carbon fiber.
[0033] In this specification, “a to b” indicating a numerical range is defined as “≥a and ≤b”.
[0034]
[0035] (A) Polypropylene resin
[0036] According to one specific example of the present invention, a polypropylene resin is applied together with a styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer, zinc oxide, a silver-based compound, talc, carbon fiber, etc., to improve the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and balance of these physical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, and to provide a melange texture, a fiber texture, etc., and a polypropylene resin applied to a typical thermoplastic resin composition can be used.
[0037] In specific examples, the polypropylene resin may include a homopolypropylene resin, a block polypropylene resin, a random polypropylene resin, a combination thereof, and the like. Here, the block polypropylene resin may be a block polypropylene resin composed of a homopolypropylene block and an ethylene-propylene copolymer block and / or a homopolyethylene block, and the random polypropylene resin may be a propylene-ethylene random copolymer. For example, the polypropylene resin may be a block polypropylene resin.
[0038] In a specific example, the polypropylene resin may have a melt flow index (MI) of about 10 to about 110 g / 10 min, for example, about 15 to about 95 g / 10 min, measured under conditions of 230°C and a load of 2.16 kg according to ASTM D1238. Within this range, the mechanical properties, molding processability, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be excellent.
[0039]
[0040] (B) Styrenic thermoplastic elastomer
[0041] According to one specific example of the present invention, a styrenic thermoplastic elastomer is applied to a polypropylene resin together with zinc oxide, a silver-based compound, talc, carbon fiber, etc., to improve the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and the balance of these physical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, and to have a melange texture, a fiber texture, etc., and a styrenic thermoplastic elastomer used in a typical thermoplastic resin composition can be used.
[0042] In specific examples, the styrenic thermoplastic elastomer may include a styrene-ethylene / butylene-styrene (SEBS) copolymer, a styrene-ethylene-butylene (SEB) copolymer, a styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), a styrene-isoprene-styrene (SIS), combinations thereof, and the like.
[0043] In a specific example, the styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer may have a weight average molecular weight measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) of about 50,000 to about 120,000 g / mol, for example, about 55,000 to about 110,000 g / mol. Within this range, the mechanical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, such as impact resistance at room temperature and impact resistance at low temperature, may be excellent.
[0044] In a specific example, the styrenic thermoplastic elastomer may be included in an amount of about 5 to about 15 parts by weight, for example, about 6 to about 12 parts by weight, based on about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin. If the content of the styrenic thermoplastic elastomer is less than about 5 parts by weight based on about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin, there is a concern that the impact resistance (room temperature impact resistance, low temperature impact resistance) of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced, and if it exceeds about 15 parts by weight, there is a concern that the rigidity, thermal stability, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced.
[0045]
[0046] (C) Zinc oxide
[0047] According to one specific example of the present invention, zinc oxide is applied to a polypropylene resin together with a styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer, a silver-based compound, talc, and carbon fibers, thereby improving the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and balance of these physical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, and imparting a melange texture, a fiber texture, and the like. Zinc oxide used in a typical thermoplastic resin composition can be used.
[0048] In a specific example, the zinc oxide may have an average particle size (D50) of about 0.7 to about 1.5 ㎛ as measured using a particle size analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer LS I3 320 equipment) in accordance with ISO 13320-1. In addition, the zinc oxide may have a specific surface area BET of about 1 to about 7 m as measured using a BET analysis equipment (Micromeritics, Surface Area and Porosity Analyzer ASAP 2020 equipment) in accordance with ASTM C 1251:95 using a nitrogen gas adsorption method. 2 / g, and the purity may be about 99% or more. In the above range, the polypropylene resin composition may have excellent antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.
[0049] In a specific example, the zinc oxide may be included in an amount of about 2 to about 5 parts by weight, for example, about 3 to about 4.5 parts by weight, relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin. If the content of the zinc oxide is less than about 2 parts by weight relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin, there is a concern that the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced, and if it exceeds about 5 parts by weight, there is a concern that the impact resistance, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced.
[0050]
[0051] (D) Silver compounds
[0052] According to one specific example of the present invention, a silver (Ag)-based compound is applied to a polypropylene resin together with a styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer, zinc oxide, talc, and carbon fiber, thereby improving the antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and the balance of these physical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, and providing a melange texture, a fiber texture, and the like. The silver-based compound is an antibacterial agent, and is not particularly limited as long as it is a compound containing a silver component, and may include, for example, metallic silver, silver oxide, silver halide, a carrier containing silver ions, and combinations thereof. Among these, a carrier containing silver ions may be used. Examples of the carrier include zeolite, silica gel, calcium phosphate, zirconium phosphate, sodium zirconium phosphate, sodium phosphate-hydrogen zirconium phosphate, and the like. The carrier preferably has a porous structure. Since the porous support can retain the silver component within its interior, not only can the content of the silver component be increased, but also the sustained performance (maintenance performance) of the silver component is improved. Specifically, silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate or the like can be used as the silver-based compound.
[0053] In a specific example, the silver compound may have an average particle size (D50) of about 15 μm or less, for example, about 0.1 to about 12 μm, as measured using a particle size analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer, LS 13 320 equipment).
[0054] In a specific example, the silver-based compound may be included in an amount of about 0.1 to about 0.7 parts by weight, for example, about 0.1 to about 0.5 parts by weight, relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin. If the content of the silver-based compound is less than about 0.1 parts by weight relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin, there is a concern that the antiviral properties, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced, and if it exceeds about 0.7 parts by weight, there is a concern that the impact resistance, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced.
[0055] In a specific example, the weight ratio of the zinc oxide and the silver compound may be from about 1:0.02 to about 1:0.15, for example from about 1:0.025 to about 1:0.134. In this range, the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, mechanical properties, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be more excellent.
[0056]
[0057] (E) Talk
[0058] According to one specific example of the present invention, talc is applied to a polypropylene resin together with a styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer, zinc oxide, a silver-based compound, carbon fiber, etc., to improve the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and the balance of these physical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, and to provide a melange texture, a fiber texture, etc., and a plate-shaped talc used in a typical thermoplastic resin composition can be used.
[0059] In a specific example, the talc may have an average particle size of about 3 to about 10 μm, for example, about 4 to about 6 μm, as measured by a particle size measuring device (Malvern Panalytical, Mastersizer 3000). Within this range, the tensile strength, flexural strength, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be excellent.
[0060] In a specific example, the talc may be included in an amount of about 15 to about 35 parts by weight, for example, about 20 to about 30 parts by weight, relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin. If the amount of the talc is less than about 15 parts by weight relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin, there is a concern that the rigidity, thermal stability, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced, and if it exceeds about 35 parts by weight, there is a concern that the impact resistance, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced.
[0061]
[0062] (F) Carbon fiber
[0063] According to one specific example of the present invention, carbon fiber is applied to a polypropylene resin together with a styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer, zinc oxide, a silver-based compound, talc, etc., to improve the antibacterial properties, antifungal properties, antiviral properties, impact resistance, rigidity, thermal stability, and balance of these physical properties of the polypropylene resin composition, and to have a melange texture, a fiber texture, etc., and carbon fibers used in a typical thermoplastic resin composition can be used.
[0064] In a specific example, the carbon fibers may have an average diameter of about 10 to about 25 μm, for example, about 16 to about 20 μm, as measured by an optical microscope, and an average length of about 0.1 to about 2 mm, for example, about 0.5 to about 1.5 mm. Within this range, the rigidity of the polypropylene resin composition may be excellent, and a melange texture, a fiber texture, etc. may be imparted to the polypropylene resin composition and the molded product.
[0065] In a specific example, the carbon fiber may be included in an amount of about 1 to about 5 parts by weight, for example, about 1.5 to about 3 parts by weight, relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin. If the content of the carbon fiber is less than about 1 part by weight relative to about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin, there is a concern that the melange texture may not be sufficiently implemented on the appearance of the polypropylene resin composition, and if it exceeds about 5 parts by weight, there is a concern that the impact resistance of the polypropylene resin composition may be reduced, and a foreign body sensation may be excessively expressed on the appearance.
[0066]
[0067] (G) polyethylene resin
[0068] A polypropylene resin composition according to one specific embodiment of the present invention may further include a polyethylene resin. The polyethylene resin may be a conventional polyethylene resin (e.g., low-density polyethylene (LDPE), medium-density polyethylene (MDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE)), a bio-polyethylene resin, a combination thereof, or the like. When the polyethylene resin is applied, the impact resistance, appearance properties (e.g., gloss), etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be further improved. Here, the bio-polyethylene resin refers to an eco-friendly product made by distilling / dehydrating / polymerizing ethanol from sugarcane residue left after extracting sugar.
[0069] In a specific example, the polyethylene resin may have a melt-flow index (MI) of about 20 to about 40 g / 10 min, for example, about 23 to about 32 g / 10 min, measured under conditions of 230°C and a load of 2.16 kg according to ASTM D1238. Within this range, the impact resistance, appearance characteristics, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be excellent.
[0070] In a specific example, when applying the polyethylene resin, the content may be about 10 to about 25 parts by weight, for example, about 11 to about 20 parts by weight, based on about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin. Within this range, the impact resistance, appearance characteristics, etc. of the polypropylene resin composition may be further improved.
[0071]
[0072] A polypropylene resin composition according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include additives included in conventional thermoplastic resin compositions. Examples of such additives include, but are not limited to, antioxidants, flame retardants, anti-dripping agents, UV stabilizers, release agents, nucleating agents, pigments, dyes, and mixtures thereof.
[0073] In a specific example, when the additive is used, the content may be about 0.001 to about 40 parts by weight, for example, about 0.01 to about 10 parts by weight, based on about 100 parts by weight of the polypropylene resin.
[0074]
[0075] A polypropylene resin composition according to one specific example of the present invention may be in the form of pellets obtained by mixing the above components and melt-extruding them at about 170 to about 240°C, for example, about 190 to about 230°C, using a conventional twin-screw extruder.
[0076] In a specific example, the polypropylene resin composition may have an antibacterial activity value of about 2 to about 7, for example, about 3 to about 5, measured by inoculating Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on a 5 cm × 5 cm sized specimen according to the JIS Z 2801-1 antibacterial evaluation method and culturing for 24 hours under conditions of 35°C and RH 90%.
[0077] In a specific example, the polypropylene resin composition may have an antifungal grade of 0 to 2, as measured by inoculating a 5 cm × 5 cm injection molded specimen with fungal spores and culturing it for 28 days under conditions of 29°C and RH 95% according to the ISO 846:2019-A evaluation method.
[0078] In a specific example, the polypropylene resin composition may have an antiviral activity value of about 2 to about 7, for example, about 2.1 to about 5, measured by adding an influenza A virus (H3N2): ATCC VR-1679 virus solution dropwise to a 5 cm × 5 cm sized specimen according to the ISO 21702:2019 evaluation method and exposing the specimen to the virus for 24 hours under conditions of 25°C and RH 50%.
[0079] In a specific example, the polypropylene resin composition has a notched Izod impact strength of about 4 to about 12 kJ / m of a 4 mm thick specimen measured according to ISO 180. 2 , for example, about 4 to about 10 kJ / m 2 It could be.
[0080] In a specific example, the polypropylene resin composition may have a tensile strength of about 20 to about 30 MPa, for example, about 23 to about 28 MPa, of a 4 mm thick specimen measured under conditions of 50 mm / min according to ISO 527.

[0084]
[0085] The molded article according to the present invention is formed from the polypropylene resin composition. The polypropylene resin composition can be manufactured in the form of pellets, and the manufactured pellets can be manufactured into various molded articles (products) through various molding methods such as injection molding, extrusion molding, vacuum molding, and casting molding.
