Description

Cashier terminal device, lending business system, payment method, and program

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a cash register terminal device, a lending business system, a payment method, and a program.

[0002] As a related technique, Patent Document 1 discloses an automatic rental / return machine. For example, when renting a car, the automatic rental / return machine performs identity authentication using a driver's license or other document presented by the customer. If identity authentication is successful, the automatic rental / return machine releases the rental key for the vehicle reserved by the customer from the rental key entrance / exit. When returning the rental car, the customer inserts the rental key into the rental key entrance / exit of the automatic rental / return machine. When the rental key is returned, the automatic rental / return machine prompts the customer to settle the rental fee and executes the settlement operation by requiring the customer to insert the required settlement amount for the rental use.

[0003] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-203244

[0004] The automated rental and return machine described in Patent Document 1 can automate the entire process from reservation to return, thereby improving customer service. However, in the case of rental cars, the usage fee paid by the user can vary depending on, for example, the amount of fuel remaining in the rental vehicle. In other words, the usage fee may not be determined at the time of reservation or rental. In such cases, the customer cannot use the automated rental and return machine to perform the return process, but must have a store clerk perform the process.

[0005] In view of the above circumstances, one of the objects of the present disclosure is to provide a cash register terminal device, a lending business system, a payment method, and a program that can improve convenience for customers.

[0006] A cash register terminal device according to a first aspect of the present disclosure includes, when renting a vehicle, a reservation information presentation unit that presents reservation information of the user renting the vehicle to the user; an authentication unit that acquires the user's driver's license information and authenticates the user; a fee calculation unit that calculates a first usage fee based on the reservation information; when returning the vehicle, a collaboration unit that collaborates with a store terminal device and acquires a second usage fee from the store terminal device; and a settlement unit that executes payment based on the first usage fee and the second usage fee.

[0007] A rental business system according to a second aspect of the present disclosure includes a store terminal device operated by a store clerk in a store and a cash register terminal device operated by a user in the store. The cash register terminal device includes a reservation information presentation unit that, when renting a vehicle, presents reservation information of a user renting a vehicle to the user, an authentication unit that acquires driver's license information of the user and authenticates the user, a fee calculation unit that calculates a first usage fee based on the reservation information, a collaboration unit that collaborates with the store terminal device and acquires a second usage fee from the store terminal device when returning the vehicle, and a settlement unit that settles the price based on the first usage fee and the second usage fee.

[0008] A payment method according to a third aspect of the present disclosure includes a cash register terminal device, when renting a vehicle, presenting reservation information of the user renting the vehicle to the user, the cash register terminal device acquiring driver's license information of the user and authenticating the user, the cash register terminal device calculating a first usage fee based on the reservation information, the cash register terminal device cooperating with a store terminal device when returning the vehicle and acquiring a second usage fee from the store terminal device, and the cash register terminal device executing payment based on the first usage fee and the second usage fee.

[0009] A program according to a fourth aspect of the present disclosure causes a computer device to perform processing including, when renting a vehicle, presenting reservation information of the user renting the vehicle to the user, obtaining the user's driver's license information, authenticating the user, calculating a first usage fee based on the reservation information, and, when returning the vehicle, cooperating with a store terminal device, obtaining a second usage fee from the store terminal device, and executing payment based on the first usage fee and the second usage fee.

[0010] The cash register terminal device, lending business system, payment method, and program according to the present disclosure can improve customer convenience.

Fig. 7 is a block diagram showing an example of the configuration of a computer device.

[0012] Prior to describing embodiments of the present disclosure, an overview of the present disclosure will be described. Fig. 1 shows an example of a schematic configuration of a rental business system according to the present disclosure. The rental business system 10 includes a cash register terminal device 20 and a store terminal device 30. The cash register terminal device 20 is a terminal device operated by a customer when renting and returning a vehicle. The store terminal device 30 is a terminal device operated by a store clerk.

[0013] The cashier terminal device 20 has a reservation information presentation unit 21, an authentication unit 22, a fee calculation unit 23, a linkage unit 24, and a settlement unit 25. The reservation information presentation unit 21 acquires the user's reservation information when renting a vehicle and presents the acquired reservation information to the user. The authentication unit 22 acquires the user's driver's license information and authenticates the user. The fee calculation unit 23 calculates a first usage fee based on the reservation information.

[0014] When returning the vehicle, the linking unit 24 links with the store terminal device 30 and obtains a second usage fee from the store terminal device 30. The second usage fee indicates, for example, the difference between the first usage fee and a usage fee calculated based on the usage status of the vehicle. The settlement unit 25 executes payment based on the first usage fee and the second usage fee. For example, the settlement unit 25 may settle the first usage fee when renting out the vehicle and the second usage fee when returning the vehicle.

[0015] In the present disclosure, the linking unit 24 acquires the second usage fee from the store terminal device 30 when returning a vehicle. In this case, even if a difference in price occurs that cannot be calculated automatically at the time of return, the user can make payment using the cashier terminal device 20. Therefore, the rental business system 10 according to the present disclosure can improve user convenience. Furthermore, in the present disclosure, payment is made at the cashier terminal device by the user's own operation. Therefore, the rental business system 10 according to the present disclosure can reduce the labor of store clerks.

[0016] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. Note that the following description and drawings have been omitted and simplified as appropriate for clarity of explanation. In addition, in the following drawings, the same or similar elements are designated by the same reference numerals, and duplicate explanations are omitted as necessary.

[0017] 2 shows an example configuration of a rental business system according to the present disclosure. The rental business system 100 includes one or more cash register terminal devices 120, one or more store terminal devices 130, and a reservation management server 140. In this embodiment, the rental business system 100 constitutes a rental car business system.

[0018] In this embodiment, one or more cashier terminal devices 120 and one or more store terminal devices 130 are disposed in each of one or more stores 110. The stores 110 are, for example, stores or offices of a rental car company. The reservation management server 140 is connected via a network to the one or more cashier terminal devices 120 and one or more store terminal devices 130 disposed in each of the one or more stores 110. The network may include networks such as the Internet and wireless communication networks.

[0019] A user who wishes to rent a vehicle reserves the desired vehicle, for example, through a reservation website or at a store. The reservation management server 140 stores the user's reservation information. The reservation information may include the type of vehicle the user wishes to rent, the usage period, options, and the return location.

[0020] The store terminal device 130 is a terminal device used by a store clerk in the store 110. The store terminal device 130 is placed, for example, at a counter in the store 110. The store terminal device 130 may be a stationary terminal device or a portable terminal device. The store terminal device 130 has, for example, one or more processors and one or more memories. At least some of the functions of the store terminal device 130 can be realized by the one or more processors executing processing in accordance with instructions read from the one or more memories. The store terminal device 130 may also be called a manned cash register terminal device. The store terminal device 130 corresponds to the store terminal device 30 shown in FIG. 1.

[0021] The cashier terminal 120 is a terminal used or operated by a customer who rents a vehicle, i.e., a user, at the store 110. The user can operate the cashier terminal 120 to process the rental of a vehicle and the return of the vehicle. The cashier terminal 120 may be called a self-service or semi-self-service cashier terminal. The cashier terminal 120 corresponds to the cashier terminal 20 shown in FIG. 1 .

[0022] 3 shows an example configuration of the cashier terminal 120. The cashier terminal 120 has, as its logical configuration, a reservation information presentation unit 121, an authentication unit 122, a fee calculation unit 123, a rental information recording unit 124, a linking unit 125, a settlement unit 126, and a return information recording unit 127. At least some of the functions of the cashier terminal 120 may be realized by the one or more processors executing processing in accordance with instructions read from one or more memories.

[0023] The reservation information presentation unit 121 presents the user's reservation information to the user when the user rents a vehicle. The reservation information presentation unit 121 prompts the user to input, for example, a user number or a reservation number. The reservation information presentation unit 121 obtains reservation information related to the user number or reservation number input by the user from the reservation management server 140 and presents the obtained reservation information to the user. The user checks the presented reservation information to ensure there are no errors. If there is an error in the reservation information or if the user wishes to change the reservation information, the user can correct or change the reservation information. The reservation information presentation unit 121 corresponds to the reservation information presentation unit 21 shown in FIG. 1.

[0024] The authentication unit 122 performs user authentication. In this embodiment, it is assumed that the user's driver's license information is used for authentication. The authentication unit 122 acquires the user's driver's license information. The authentication unit 122 can acquire the driver's license information by, for example, performing image processing such as OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on the driver's license presented by the user. Alternatively, the authentication unit 122 may read the driver's license information recorded as electronic information from the driver's license.

[0025] The license information includes, for example, biometric information of the user. The authentication unit 122 may, for example, compare a facial image of the user included in the license information with a facial image of the user captured using a camera to authenticate the user through facial recognition. In addition to authentication, the authentication unit 122 may determine whether the user has a valid license based on the acquired license information. The authentication unit 122 corresponds to the authentication unit 22 shown in FIG. 1.

[0026] The fee calculation unit 123 calculates a first usage fee based on the reservation information. The fee calculation unit 123 calculates a basic fee based on, for example, the type of vehicle and the usage period. The fee calculation unit 123 also calculates fees other than the basic fee, such as optional fees and one-way fees. When renting a vehicle, the fee calculation unit 123 presents the first usage fee to the user and asks the user to confirm the fee. The fee calculation unit 123 corresponds to the fee calculation unit 23 shown in FIG. 1.

[0027] The settlement unit 126 is a functional unit that executes payment of the fee. The settlement unit 126 settles the first usage fee calculated by the fee calculation unit 123 when renting out a vehicle. Payment can be made using, for example, cash, credit card, or electronic money. The settlement unit 126 corresponds to the settlement unit 25 shown in FIG. 1 .

[0028] The rental information recording unit 124 records the rental information in a storage unit (not shown). The rental information may include, for example, information similar to the reservation information and information identifying the vehicle to be rented to the user. The rental information recording unit 124 may also record the rental information in the reservation management server 140.

[0029] When returning a vehicle, the linking unit 125 links with the store terminal device 130 and obtains a second usage fee from the store terminal device 130. The second usage fee indicates, for example, the difference between the first usage fee paid by the user at the time of rental and a usage fee calculated based on the vehicle usage status. The second usage fee includes at least one of a fee entered by a store clerk in the store terminal device 130 and a fee calculated based on information entered by the store clerk. The linking unit 125 corresponds to the linking unit 24 shown in FIG. 1.

[0030] When returning a vehicle, the user first goes to the counter where the store terminal device 130, which is a manned cash register, is located, and a store clerk checks the return status. If the user returns early, i.e., if the vehicle usage period is shorter than the reserved period, the store clerk calculates the difference in fees to be refunded to the user. If the user returns the vehicle late, i.e., if the vehicle usage period is longer than the reserved period, the store clerk calculates an additional usage fee. These difference in fees can be automatically calculated by the store terminal device 130 based on the return date and time.

[0031] When the vehicle is returned, the clerk checks whether there are any scratches or other damage to the vehicle. If there are any scratches or other damage to the vehicle, the clerk checks the condition together with the user and then negotiates the cost. The clerk inputs the cost agreed upon in the cost negotiation into the store terminal device 130. If the user requests additional options while using the vehicle, the clerk inputs information about the additional options into the store terminal device 130. The fee for the additional options can be automatically calculated in the store terminal device 130 based on the return date and time. If the user borrowed an ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) card, the clerk inputs the road toll used with the ETC card into the store terminal device 130.

[0032] If the returned vehicle does not have a full tank of fuel, the store clerk inputs the mileage into the store terminal device 130. The store terminal device 130 obtains the vehicle type from the reservation information and calculates the fuel cost based on the vehicle type, the fuel unit price, and the mileage. The store terminal device 130 may present the reservation information at the time of rental and the vehicle usage status to the store clerk and prompt the store clerk to input the second usage fee.

[0033] The settlement unit 126 settles the second usage fee when the user returns the vehicle. The return information recording unit 127 stores the return information in a storage unit (not shown). The return information may include, for example, the type of vehicle actually used by the user, the usage period, the usage period, options, and the return location.

[0034] 4 shows the external appearance of the cashier terminal 120. In this example, the cashier terminal 120 has a two-dimensional barcode reader 221, a driver's license reader 222, a camera 223, a payment device 224, a printer 225, an ETC card reader 226, and a touch panel display 227. The cashier terminal 120 also includes, within its housing, an information processing device that implements at least some of the functions of the components of the cashier terminal 120 shown in FIG.

[0035] The two-dimensional barcode reader 221 reads information from a two-dimensional barcode displayed on the screen of a user terminal such as a smartphone. The driver's license reader 222 acquires license information from the user's driver's license. The ETC card reader 226 acquires information such as usage history from the ETC card. The camera 223 acquires an image of the user standing in front of the cash register terminal device 120, for example, an image of the user's face area.

[0036] The payment device 224 performs payment using a server of a business that implements cashless payment. The payment device 224, for example, reads credit card information from a credit card and performs cashless payment based on the credit card information. The payment device 224 may perform payment based on information in a two-dimensional barcode. Alternatively, the payment device 224 may perform payment in cash. The printer 225 issues receipts. The touch panel display 227 displays various information to the user and accepts various operations from the user.

[0037] The following describes the operation procedures of the rental business system 100. The operation procedures of the rental business system 100 include an operation procedure when renting a vehicle and an operation procedure when returning a vehicle. The operation procedures of the rental business system 100 are also called a payment method.

[0038] FIG. 5 shows the operational procedure of the cashier terminal device 120 when renting a vehicle. The user operates the cashier terminal device 120, for example, at the store 110, and selects "rental" from the menu displayed on the screen. The reservation information presentation unit 121, for example, prompts the user to enter a reservation number. A two-dimensional barcode, for example, can be used to enter the reservation number. When the user enters the reservation number, the reservation information presentation unit 121 acquires reservation information corresponding to the reservation number from the reservation management server 140. The reservation information presentation unit 121 displays the acquired reservation information on the screen (step S101) and requests confirmation from the user. The displayed reservation information includes, for example, the vehicle type, departure store, scheduled rental date and time, return store, and scheduled return date and time.

[0039] The authentication unit 122 verifies the identity of the user (step S102). In step S102, the driver's license reader 222 of the cashier terminal device 120 acquires the user's license information. In addition, the camera 223 (see FIG. 4) captures a facial image of the user. The authentication unit 122 compares the facial image included in the license information with the captured facial image to verify the identity of the user. In step S102, the authentication unit 122 also verifies the validity of the license. For example, if the license has expired, the cashier terminal device 120 stops the vehicle rental process.

[0040] The fee calculation unit 123 calculates the first usage fee, i.e., the fee at the time of vehicle rental, based on the reservation information and displays the fee at the time of rental on the screen (step S103). The user checks the fee and, if the fee is correct, presses the "Proceed to payment" button displayed on the screen. The settlement unit 126 performs settlement processing and receives payment of the fee at the time of rental (step S104). For example, the user inserts a credit card into the settlement device 224 to complete the settlement.

[0041] After payment, the settlement unit 126 outputs information indicating that the rental contract has been completed (step S105). In step S105, the settlement unit 126 may cause the printer 225 to print a rental certificate including information about the confirmed rental. Alternatively, the settlement unit 126 may send data about the rental certificate to a user terminal such as a smartphone. For example, the user may present the rental certificate to a store clerk and receive the vehicle keys from the store clerk. The rental information recording unit 124 records the rental information (step S106).

[0042] FIG. 6 shows the operational procedure of the cashier terminal device 120 when returning a vehicle. When returning a vehicle, the user confirms the vehicle usage status with a store clerk at the counter of the store 110. The store clerk or the store terminal device 130 calculates the second usage fee based on the vehicle usage status. In calculating the second usage fee, the store terminal device 130 may display on its screen the rental information recorded at the time of rental and the actual usage status. When reservation information or rental information is managed or recorded by the reservation management server 140, the second usage fee can be easily calculated at the store to which the vehicle is returned, even if the store from which the vehicle was rented is different from the store to which the vehicle is returned.

[0043] If there is a discrepancy between the rental information and the actual usage period, the clerk calculates the difference in the usage fee. The difference in the usage fee may be calculated automatically in the store terminal device 130. When an ETC card is rented and the user uses the ETC card, the clerk inputs the amount used for the ETC card into the store terminal device 130. After checking the usage status, the clerk determines the second usage fee. The second usage fee may be 0 yen.

[0044] After the store clerk confirms the usage status, the user proceeds to the location of the cashier terminal device 120. The cashier terminal device 120 may be located, for example, next to the counter where the store terminal device 130 is located. In response to an operation by the store clerk, the store terminal device 130 transmits information about the second usage fee to the cashier terminal device 120 via an in-store network such as a LAN (Local Area Network). The linking unit 125 of the cashier terminal device 120 obtains the second usage fee, for example, the difference fee, from the store terminal device 130 (step S201).

[0045] The settlement unit 126 displays the second usage fee acquired in step S201 on the screen and charges the second usage fee to the user (step S202). Prior to charging the second usage fee, the settlement unit 126 may verify the user using the rental certificate used at the time of rental. The user checks the difference in price, and if the difference in price is correct, presses the "Proceed to payment" button displayed on the screen. The settlement unit 126 performs the settlement process and receives payment of the difference in price (step S203).

[0046] After the payment, the settlement unit 126 outputs receipt data, i.e., information indicating that payment of the difference in price has been completed (step S204). In step S204, the settlement unit 126 may cause the printer 225 to print the receipt data. Alternatively, the settlement unit 126 may transmit the receipt data to a user terminal such as a smartphone. The return information recording unit 127 records the return information (step S205). The return information recording unit 127 may record information identifying the corresponding reservation information and the receipt data as the return information.

[0047] In this embodiment, when a vehicle is returned, the cashier terminal device 120 cooperates with the store terminal device 130 and obtains the second usage fee from the store terminal device 130. In this embodiment, when the vehicle is returned, the cashier terminal device 120 bills the user for the second usage fee determined with the involvement of a store clerk. In this manner, even if a difference in price that cannot be calculated automatically occurs when the vehicle is returned, the user can make payment using the cashier terminal device 120. Therefore, this embodiment can improve user convenience.

[0048] Furthermore, in this embodiment, after the second usage fee for a given user is confirmed, the store clerk can have the cashier terminal device 120 perform the subsequent payment process. This allows the store clerk to handle the next user while the user is making the payment. Therefore, this embodiment reduces the store clerk's workload and improves the store clerk's work efficiency.

[0049] In the present disclosure, the cashier terminal 120 and the store terminal 130 may each be configured as a computer or a server.
