Description

Method and device for signal measurement and reporting

[0001] This specification relates to a method and apparatus for signal measurement and reporting.

[0002] Mobile communication systems were developed to provide voice services while ensuring user activity. However, they have expanded beyond voice to include data services. Currently, explosive growth in traffic is leading to resource shortages and users are demanding faster services, necessitating a more advanced mobile communication system.

[0003] Next-generation mobile communication systems must support explosive data traffic growth, dramatically increasing data rates per user, a vastly increased number of connected devices, ultra-low end-to-end latency, and high energy efficiency. To achieve these goals, various technologies are being studied, including dual connectivity, massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO), in-band full duplex, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), super wideband support, and device networking.

[0004] Meanwhile, measurement and reporting operations for beam management are defined. For example, at least one of a plurality of Reference Signal (RS) indices can be predicted from measurements based on one or more RS indices. Information related to the at least one RS index can be reported.

[0005] According to the beam prediction operation, one or more of the entire beams can be predicted based on the measurement of a limited number of beams (e.g., one or more RS indices described above). That is, when the beams (RS indices) to be measured are set / indicated based on the number of the entire beams, the signaling overhead required for the measurement setup may increase excessively. As the communication frequency band increases, the beam width becomes narrower and the total number of beams increases, so the signaling overhead described above may increase further. The purpose of this specification is to propose a setup method that takes the above-described signaling overhead into account.

[0006] Meanwhile, when the pattern for beam prediction (e.g., one or more of the RS indices described above) is fixed, performance of beam prediction may deteriorate due to channel variations such as blockages. Another purpose of this specification is to propose a configuration method that can prevent performance degradation due to channel variations.

[0007] The technical problems to be achieved in this specification are not limited to the technical problems mentioned above, and other technical problems not mentioned can be clearly understood by a person having ordinary skill in the technical field to which the present invention belongs from the description below.

[0008] A method according to one embodiment of the present disclosure includes the steps of receiving configuration information and transmitting a report based on the configuration information.

[0009] The above report includes information related to a predicted RS index among a plurality of reference signal (RS) indices. Measurements related to the report are based on information indicating one or more RS indices. The information indicating the one or more RS indices is characterized in that it is set based on a bitmap.

[0010] Among multiple bitmaps, information indicating the bitmap can be set based on upper layer signaling.

[0011] The above bitmap can be determined based on the order related to the time instance among multiple bitmaps.

[0012] The above bitmap can be changed based on the time instance.

[0013] The above time instance may include i) a time instance for the measurement, ii) a time instance for the prediction, or ii) a time instance for the report.

[0014] The bitmap may include a first bitmap and a second bitmap. One or more subsets among the subsets associated with the plurality of RS indices may be set based on the first bitmap.

[0015] The RS index belonging to each of the one or more subsets may be set based on the second bitmap.

[0016] Based on the above bitmap, an RS index belonging to each of the subsets related to the plurality of RS indices can be set.

[0017] Information representing one or more of the above RS indices can be set based on i) the bitmap or ii) mapping information.

[0018] Based on the above mapping information, the number of RS indices mapped to each of the one or more RS indices among the plurality of RS indices can be indicated.

[0019] The information related to the predicted RS index may include i) at least one RS index and / or ii) at least one Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) related to the at least one RS index.

[0020] The at least one RS index may be associated with at least one future time instance.

[0021] The above measurement may relate to at least one time instance.

[0022] The above measurement may be related to an input of the model. The above predicted RS index may be related to an output of the model.

[0023] The above model may include i) a UE-sided model and / or ii) a network-sided model.

[0024] A terminal according to another embodiment of the present disclosure includes one or more transceivers, one or more processors, and one or more memories connected to the one or more processors and storing instructions.

[0025] The above instructions are characterized in that they cause the terminal to perform all steps of any one of the above methods based on being executed by the one or more processors.

[0026] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a device comprises one or more memories and one or more processors connected to the one or more memories. The one or more memories are characterized in that they store instructions that cause the device to perform all steps of any one of the above methods based on instructions executed by the one or more processors.

[0027] A non-transitory computer-readable medium according to another embodiment of the present disclosure stores instructions, the instructions being executable by one or more processors, characterized in that they cause a terminal to perform all steps of any one of the above methods.

[0028] A method according to another embodiment of the present disclosure comprises the steps of transmitting configuration information and receiving a report based on the configuration information.

[0029] The above report includes information related to a predicted RS index among a plurality of reference signal (RS) indices. Measurements related to the report are based on information indicating one or more RS indices. The information indicating one or more RS indices is characterized in that it is set based on a bitmap.

[0030] A base station according to another embodiment of the present disclosure includes one or more transceivers, one or more processors, and one or more memories coupled to the one or more processors and storing instructions.

[0031] The above instructions are characterized in that they cause the base station to perform all steps of the method based on being executed by the one or more processors.

[0032] According to an embodiment of the present specification, one or more RS indices related to measurement are set based on a bitmap. Therefore, measurement targets for beam prediction can be set more effectively in terms of signaling overhead.

[0033] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the bitmap is based on one of multiple bitmaps. Therefore, beam prediction performance degradation due to channel variations can be mitigated compared to cases where fixed beams are used for measurement. Furthermore, the flexibility of base station / NW operations related to measurement settings can be increased.

[0034] The effects that can be obtained from this specification are not limited to the effects mentioned above, and other effects that are not mentioned can be clearly understood by those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains from the description below.

[0051] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. The detailed description set forth below, together with the accompanying drawings, is intended to illustrate exemplary embodiments of the present invention and is not intended to represent the only embodiments in which the present invention may be practiced. The following detailed description includes specific details to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. However, one of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the present invention may be practiced without these specific details.

[0052] In some cases, to avoid obscuring the concept of the present invention, well-known structures and devices may be omitted or illustrated in block diagram form focusing on the core functions of each structure and device.

[0053] Hereinafter, downlink (DL) refers to communication from a base station to a terminal, and uplink (UL) refers to communication from a terminal to a base station. In downlink, a transmitter may be part of a base station, and a receiver may be part of a terminal. In uplink, a transmitter may be part of a terminal, and a receiver may be part of a base station. A base station may be expressed as a first communication device, and a terminal may be expressed as a second communication device. A base station (BS) may be replaced by terms such as a fixed station, Node B, eNB (evolved-NodeB), gNB (Next Generation NodeB), BTS (base transceiver system), access point (AP: Access Point), network (5G network), AI system, RSU (road side unit), vehicle, robot, drone (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, UAV), AR (Augmented Reality) device, VR (Virtual Reality) device, etc. In addition, the terminal may be fixed or mobile, and may be replaced with terms such as UE (User Equipment), MS (Mobile Station), UT (user terminal), MSS (Mobile Subscriber Station), SS (Subscriber Station), AMS (Advanced Mobile Station), WT (Wireless terminal), MTC (Machine-Type Communication) device, M2M (Machine-to-Machine) device, D2D (Device-to-Device) device, vehicle, robot, AI module, drone (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, UAV), AR (Augmented Reality) device, VR (Virtual Reality) device, etc.

[0054] < Beam Management (BM) >

[0055] BM procedures are L1 (layer 1) / L2 (layer 2) procedures for acquiring and maintaining a set of base station (e.g., gNB, TRP, etc.) and / or terminal (e.g., UE) beams that can be used for downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) transmission / reception, and may include the following procedures and terminology.

[0056] - Beam measurement: An operation in which a base station or UE measures the characteristics of a received beam-forming signal.

[0057] - Beam determination: An operation in which a base station or UE selects its own transmit beam (Tx beam) / receive beam (Rx beam).

[0058] - Beam sweeping: The operation of covering a spatial area using a transmit and / or receive beam over a predetermined time interval in a predetermined manner.

[0059] - Beam report: An operation in which a UE reports information about a beam-formed signal based on beam measurement.

[0060] The BM procedure can be divided into (1) a DL BM procedure using SS (synchronization signal) / PBCH (physical broadcast channel) Block or CSI-RS, and (2) a UL BM procedure using SRS (sounding reference signal).

[0061] Additionally, each BM procedure may include Tx beam sweeping to determine the Tx beam and Rx beam sweeping to determine the Rx beam.

[0062] DL BM

[0063] The DL BM procedure may include (1) transmission of beamformed DL RSs (reference signals) (e.g., CSI-RS or SS Block (SSB)) of the base station and (2) beam reporting of the terminal.

[0064] Here, beam reporting may include preferred DL RS ID(identifier)(s) and corresponding L1-RSRP (Reference Signal Received Power).

[0065] The above DL RS ID may be an SSBRI (SSB Resource Indicator) or a CRI (CSI-RS Resource Indicator).

[0066] Figure 1 shows an example of beam forming using SSB and CSI-RS.

[0067] As shown in Figure 1, SSB beams and CSI-RS beams can be used for beam measurement. The measurement metric is L1-RSRP per resource / block. SSB is used for coarse beam measurement, and CSI-RS can be used for fine beam measurement. SSB can be used for both Tx beam sweeping and Rx beam sweeping.

[0068] Rx beam sweeping using SSB can be performed by the UE changing the Rx beam for the same SSBRI across multiple SSB bursts, where one SS burst contains one or more SSBs, and one SS burst set contains one or more SSB bursts.

[0069] Figure 2 is a flowchart showing an example of a DL BM procedure.

[0070] The configuration for beam report using SSB is performed during CSI / beam configuration in RRC connected state (or RRC connected mode).

[0071] - The terminal receives configuration information from the base station. As a specific example, the terminal receives a CSI-ResourceConfig IE including a CSI-SSB-ResourceSetList including SSB resources used for BM from the base station (S210).

[0072] Table 1 shows an example of the CSI-ResourceConfig IE. As shown in Table 1, BM configuration using SSB is not defined separately, and SSB is configured as a CSI-RS resource.

[0073]

[0074] In Table 1, the csi-SSB-ResourceSetList parameter indicates a list of SSB resources used for beam management and reporting in a single CSI-RS resource set. Here, the SSB resource set can be set to {SSBx1, SSBx2, SSBx3, SSBx4, …}. For example, the SSB index can be defined from 0 to 63.

[0075] - The terminal receives a downlink reference signal (DL RS) from the base station. As a specific example, the terminal receives an SSB resource from the base station based on the CSI-SSB-ResourceSetList (S220).

[0076] - The terminal transmits a beam report to the base station. For example, if CSI-ReportConfig related to reporting on SSBRI (SSB Resource Indicator) and L1-RSRP is set, the terminal reports the best SSBRI and its corresponding L1-RSRP to the base station (S230).

[0077] That is, when the reportQuantity of the above CSI-ReportConfig IE is set to 'ssb-Index-RSRP', the terminal reports the best SSBRI and the corresponding L1-RSRP to the base station.

[0078] And, if the terminal sets the CSI-RS resource in the same OFDM symbol(s) as the SSB (SS / PBCH Block) and 'QCL-TypeD' is applicable, the terminal can assume that the CSI-RS and SSB are quasi co-located from the 'QCL-TypeD' perspective.

[0079] Here, the QCL TypeD may mean that the antenna ports are QCL-connected from a spatial Rx parameter perspective. When a terminal receives multiple DL antenna ports in a QCL Type D relationship, the same reception beam may be applied. In addition, the terminal does not expect the CSI-RS to be configured in an RE that overlaps with the SSB RE.

[0080] BM enhancements in NR Rel-17

[0081] In NR, DL beams are indicated through TCI (transmit configuration indicator), so this is called a unified TCI state. While the existing TCI state was separately configured / indicated for each DL RS / channel, the unified TCI state is characterized by integrated configuration / indication. Basically, the DL unified TCI state indicates QCL type-D RS that is integratedly applied to (some) PDCCH, PDSCH, and (some) CSI-RS resources, and the UL unified TCI state indicates spatial relation RS (and PL RS) that is integratedly applied to (some) PUCCH, PUSCH, and (some) SRS resources. In addition, similar to the Rel-16 default spatial relation / PL RS feature, the UL spatial relation and PL RS can also be aligned with the DL beam RS for terminals that establish beam correspondence, so the channels / RSs to which the unified TCI state is applied can encompass both DL and UL channels / RSs. This is called a joint DL / UL TCI state. That is, the following two modes will be supported:

[0082] - Joint DL / UL TCI Setting / Instruction Mode: The DL RS set / instructed as the Joint TCI state is applied not only as the QCL type-D source RS for the DL channel / RS, but also as the spatial relation RS (and PL RS) for the UL channel / RS. That is, when the joint TCI state is instructed to update, the beam RS (and PL RS) for the corresponding DL channel / RS and UL channel / RS are changed together.

[0083] - Separate DL and UL TCI setting / indication mode: QCL type-D source RS for DL channels / RSs are integrated and set / indicated to the DL TCI state, and spatial relation RS (and PL RS) for UL channels / RSs are integrated and set / indicated to the UL TCI state. Here, the DL TCI state and UL TCI state are separately set / indicated.

[0084] The above DL / UL / joint TCI states will be indicated / updated via MAC-CE and / or DCI. More specifically, one or more TCI states are activated via MAC-CE among multiple TCI states configured via RRC (called TCI state pool). If multiple TCI states are activated via MAC-CE, one of them will be indicated via DCI.

[0085] These DCI instructions will be supported via downlink DCI formats (DCI1-1 / 1-2) that support the TCI field, both with and without PDSCH scheduling. In the latter case, PDSCH scheduling will be omitted, so UEs will be able to transmit ACKs for the corresponding DCI (similar to DCI-based semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) release schemes).

[0086] Enhancements to beam reporting are planned for Rel-17. The Rel-17 beam report mode will support a mode in which the terminal measures and reports the optimal beam RS for each TRP, targeting a multi-TRP environment. To achieve this, the beam measurement RS set / group will be divided into two subsets / subgroups, which the base station will configure. Then, the terminal will select RS(s) for each subset / subgroup and report the corresponding RS quality value (L1-RSRP, [L1-SINR]).

[0087] < CSI-related actions >

[0088] In NR (New Radio) systems, CSI-RS (channel state information-reference signal) is used for time / frequency tracking, CSI computation, L1 (layer 1)-RSRP (reference signal received power) computation, and mobility. Here, CSI computation is related to CSI acquisition, and L1-RSRP computation is related to beam management (BM).

[0089] A terminal (e.g., user equipment, UE) receives configuration information related to CSI from a base station (e.g., general Node B, gNB) via RRC (radio resource control) signaling.

[0090] The configuration information related to the above CSI may include at least one of CSI-IM (interference management) resource related information, CSI measurement configuration related information, CSI resource configuration related information, CSI-RS resource related information, or CSI report configuration related information.

[0091] Each CSI resource setting 'CSI-ResourceConfig' contains a configuration for S≥1 CSI resource sets (given by the higher layer parameter csi-RS-ResourceSetList). A CSI resource setting corresponds to a CSI-RS-resourcesetlist, where S represents the number of configured CSI-RS resource sets. Wherein, the list of S≥1 CSI resource sets contains either or both of NZP CSI-RS resource set(s) and SS / PBCH block (SSB) set(s) used for L1-RSRP computation, or contains CSI-IM resource set(s).

[0092] A terminal can measure channel characteristics based on CSI-RS and feed back a CSI report to the base station as a result. To this end, a CSI report configuration can be provided to the terminal. Each CSI report configuration can include settings for feedback type, measurement resources, and report type.

[0093] Feedback types may include a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI), a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI), a CSI-RS Resource Indicator (CRI), an SSB Resource block Indicator (SSBRI), a Layer Indicator (LI), a Rank Indicator (RI), and a Layer 1-Reference Signal Received Strength (RSRP).

[0094] Measurement resources may include configurations for downlink signals and / or downlink resources on which a terminal will perform measurements to determine feedback information. Measurement resources may be configured as ZP and / or NZP CSI-RS resource sets associated with CSI reporting configurations. The NZP CSI-RS resource set may include a CSI-RS set or an SSB set. For example, L1-RSRP may be measured for a CSI-RS set or an SSB set.

[0095] < AIML related explanation >

[0096] Advances in AI / ML (Artificial intelligence / machine learning) technology are leading to the intelligence / advanced advancement of the nodes and terminals that make up wireless communication networks.

[0097] Below, a functional framework for AI operation is described with reference to FIG. 3.

[0098] Figure 3 illustrates the functional framework of the AI / ML model.

[0099] Below, to explain AI (or AI / ML) more specifically, the terms can be defined as follows.

[0100] - Data collection: Data collected from network nodes, management entities, or UEs as a basis for AI model training, data analysis, and inference.

[0101] - AI Model: A data-driven algorithm that applies AI technology to generate a set of outputs containing predictive information and / or decision parameters based on a set of inputs.

[0102] - AI / ML Training: An online or offline process of training an AI model by learning features and patterns that best represent the data and obtain a trained AI / ML model for inference.

[0103] - AI / ML Inference: The process of making predictions or inducing decisions based on collected data and the AI model using a trained AI model.

[0104] Referring to FIG. 3, the Data Collection function (10) is a function that collects input data and provides processed input data to the Model Training function (20) and the Model Inference function (30).

[0105] Examples of input data may include measurements from UEs or other network entities, feedback from actors, and output from AI models.

[0106] The Data Collection function (10) performs data preparation based on input data and provides input data processed through data preparation. Here, the Data Collection function (10) does not perform data preparation specific to each AI algorithm (e.g., data pre-processing and cleaning, formatting, and transformation), but can perform data preparation common to AI algorithms.

[0107] After the data preparation process is performed, the Model Training function (10) provides training data (11) to the Model Training function (20) and provides inference data (Inference Data) (12) to the Model Inference function (30). Here, the Training Data (11) is data required as input for the AI Model Training function (20). The Inference Data (12) is data required as input for the AI Model Inference function (30).

[0108] The Data Collection function (10) may be performed by a single entity (e.g., UE, RAN node, network node, etc.) or may be performed by multiple entities. In this case, Training Data (11) and Inference Data (12) may be provided to the Model Training function (20) and Model Inference function (30), respectively, from multiple entities.

[0109] The Model Training function (20) is a function that performs AI model training, validation, and testing, which can generate model performance metrics as part of the AI model testing process. If necessary, the Model Training function (20) also handles data preparation (e.g., data pre-processing and cleaning, forming, and transformation) based on the Training Data (11) provided by the Data Collection function (10).

[0110] Here, Model Deployment / Update (13) is used to initially deploy the trained, verified, and tested AI model to the Model Inference function (30) or to provide the updated model to the Model Inference function (30).

[0111] The Model Inference function (30) is a function that provides AI model inference output (16) (e.g., prediction or decision). If applicable, the Model Inference function (30) may provide model performance feedback (14) to the Model Training function (20). In addition, the Model Inference function (30) is also responsible for data preparation (e.g., data pre-processing and cleaning, forming, and transformation) based on the Inference Data (12) provided by the Data Collection function (10), if necessary.

[0112] Here, Output (16) refers to the inference output of the AI model generated by the Model Inference function (30), and the details of the inference output may vary depending on the use case.

[0113] Model Performance Feedback (14) can be used to monitor the performance of the AI model if available, and this feedback may be omitted.

[0114] The actor function (40) is a function that receives the output (16) from the model inference function (30) and triggers or performs a corresponding task / action. The actor function (40) can trigger tasks / actions for other entities (e.g., one or more UEs, one or more RAN nodes, one or more network nodes, etc.) or for itself.

[0115] Feedback (15) can be used to derive training data (11), inference data (12), or to monitor the performance of the AI model, its impact on the network, etc.

[0116] Meanwhile, the definitions of training / validation / test in the data set used in AI / ML can be distinguished as follows.

[0117] - Training data: This refers to the data set for learning the model.

[0118] - Validation data: This refers to a data set used to validate a model that has already completed training. In other words, it refers to a data set typically used to prevent overfitting of the training data set.

[0119] It also refers to a data set for selecting the best model among the various models learned during the learning process. Therefore, it can be viewed as a type of learning.

[0120] - Test data: This refers to the data set for final evaluation. This data is unrelated to learning.

[0121] In the case of the above data set, if the training set is generally divided, the training data and validation data can be divided and used in a ratio of 8:2 or 7:3 within the entire training set, and if the test is included, it can be divided and used in a ratio of 6:2:2 (training: validation: test).

[0122] The functions exemplified in FIG. 3 above may be implemented in a RAN node (e.g., a base station, a TRP, a central unit (CU) of a base station, etc.), a network node, an operation administration maintenance (OAM) of a network operator, or a UE.

[0123] Alternatively, two or more entities, such as a RAN, a network node, a network operator's OAM, or a UE, may cooperate to implement the functions illustrated in FIG. 8. For example, one entity may perform some of the functions of FIG. 8, and another entity may perform the remaining functions. In this way, since some of the functions illustrated in FIG. 3 are performed by a single entity (e.g., a UE, a RAN node, a network node, etc.), the transmission / provision of data / information between each function may be omitted. For example, if the Model Training function (20) and the Model Inference function (30) are performed by the same entity, the transmission / provision of Model Deployment / Update (13) and Model Performance Feedback (14) may be omitted.

[0124] Alternatively, any one of the functions illustrated in FIG. 3 may be performed through collaboration between two or more entities, including a RAN, a network node, a network operator's OAM, or a UE. This may be referred to as a split AI operation.

[0125] < AI Model Training Function (Network Node) - AI Model Inference Function (RAN Node) >

[0126] Below, we examine the operation when the AI Model Training function is performed by a network node (e.g., core network node, network operator's OAM, etc.) and the AI Model Inference function is performed by a RAN node (e.g., base station, TRP, base station's CU, etc.).

[0127] Step 1: RAN node 1 and RAN node 2 transmit input data (i.e., training data) for AI model training to the network node. Here, RAN node 1 and RAN node 2 can also transmit data collected from the UE (e.g., UE measurements related to RSRP, RSRQ, SINR of the serving cell and neighboring cells, UE location, speed, etc.) to the network node.

[0128] Step 2: Network nodes train the AI model using the received training data.

[0129] Step 3: The network node distributes / updates the AI Model to RAN Node 1 and / or RAN Node 2. RAN Node 1 (and / or RAN Node 2) may continue model training based on the received AI Model.

[0130] For convenience of explanation, we assume that the AI Model is deployed / updated only to RAN node 1.

[0131] Step 4: RAN node 1 receives input data for AI Model Inference (i.e., Inference data) from UE and RAN node 2.

[0132] Step 5: RAN node 1 performs AI Model Inference using the received Inference data to generate output data (e.g., prediction or decision).

[0133] Step 6: If applicable, RAN node 1 may transmit model performance feedback to the network nodes.

[0134] Step 7: RAN node 1, RAN node 2, and the UE (or 'RAN node 1 and the UE', or 'RAN node 1 and the RAN node 2') perform actions based on the output data. For example, in the case of a load balancing operation, the UE may move from RAN node 1 to RAN node 2.

[0135] Step 8: RAN node 1 and RAN node 2 transmit feedback information to the network nodes.

[0136] < AI Model Training / Inference Function: RAN node >

[0137] Below, we examine the operation when both the AI Model Training function and the AI Model Inference function are performed by RAN nodes (e.g., base stations, TRPs, base station CUs, etc.).

[0138] Step 1: UE and RAN node 2 transmit input data (i.e., training data) for AI model training to RAN node 1.

[0139] Step 2: RAN node 1 trains the AI model using the received training data.

[0140] Step 3: RAN node 1 receives input data for AI Model Inference (i.e., Inference data) from the UE and RAN node 2.

[0141] Step 4: RAN node 1 performs AI Model Inference using the received Inference data to generate output data (e.g., prediction or decision).

[0142] Step 5: RAN node 1, RAN node 2, and the UE (or 'RAN node 1 and the UE', or 'RAN node 1 and the RAN node 2') perform actions based on the output data. For example, in the case of a load balancing operation, the UE may move from RAN node 1 to RAN node 2.

[0143] Step 6: RAN node 2 sends feedback information to RAN node 1.

[0144] < AI Model Training Function (RAN Node) - AI Model Inference Function (UE) >

[0145] Below, we examine the operation when the AI Model Training function is performed by a RAN node (e.g., a base station, TRP, a CU of the base station, etc.) and the AI Model Inference function is performed by a UE.

[0146] Step 1: The UE transmits input data (i.e., training data) for AI model training to the RAN node. Here, the RAN node can collect data (e.g., UE measurements related to RSRP, RSRQ, SINR of the serving cell and neighboring cells, UE location, speed, etc.) from various UEs and / or from other RAN nodes.

[0147] Step 2: The RAN node trains the AI model using the received training data.

[0148] Step 3: The RAN node distributes / updates the AI model to the UE. The UE may also continue model training based on the received AI model.

[0149] Step 4: Receive input data (i.e., Inference data) for AI Model Inference from the UE and RAN nodes (and / or from other UEs).

[0150] Step 5: The UE performs AI Model Inference using the received Inference data to generate output data (e.g., prediction or decision).

[0151] Step 6: If applicable, the UE may send model performance feedback to the RAN node.

[0152] Step 7: The UE and RAN nodes perform actions based on the output data.

[0153] Step 8: The UE transmits feedback information to the RAN node.

[0154] In this document, ' / ' means 'and', 'or', or 'and / or' depending on the context.

[0155] In this specification, 'beam' may mean a source RS for a 'spatial filter' or a 'spatial relation', and may be interpreted as a QCL (type-D) RS or a TCI state or (in the case of uplink) a spatial relation RS.

[0156] For example, in this specification, a 'beam' may mean a spatial filter determined based on the reference RS or the source RS. The spatial filter may include a spatial domain filter, a spatial domain transmission filter, and a spatial domain receive filter.

[0157] For example, a beam associated with UL may be referred to as i) a spatial filter (for uplink transmission or uplink reception), ii) a spatial domain filter (for uplink transmission or uplink reception), iii) an uplink spatial domain transmission filter, iv) an uplink spatial domain receive filter, v) an uplink transmit spatial filter (UL Tx spatial filter), or vi) an uplink receive spatial filter (UL Rx spatial filter).

[0158] For example, a beam associated with DL may be referred to as i) a spatial filter (for downlink transmission or downlink reception), ii) a spatial domain filter (for downlink transmission or downlink reception), iii) a downlink spatial domain transmission filter, iv) a downlink spatial domain receive filter, v) a downlink transmit spatial filter (DL Tx spatial filter) or vi) a downlink receive spatial filter (DL Rx spatial filter).

[0159] To achieve more efficient terminal / network operation and reduce terminal / network complexity, AI / ML is emerging. In line with this trend, Release 18 is actively researching the application of AI / ML for CSI feedback, beam management, and positioning. These AI / ML-based operations can vary and differ depending on the use case or the AI / ML functionality / model implementation method.

[0160] BM-Case1 and BM-Case2 can be considered as use cases for improved beam management using AI / ML. They are described in detail below.

[0161] Measurements based on the set B of beams are used as model input. Beam ID information can also be provided as input to the AI / ML model. Based on the model output (e.g., the probability of each beam in set A being the top-1 beam, predicted L1-RSRPs), the top-1 beam and / or top-N beams (and potentially predicted L1-RSRPs) among the set A of beams can be predicted.

[0162] Hereinafter, a detailed description will be given with reference to Figures 4 and 5.

[0163] Fig. 4 illustrates an example of beam prediction based on an AI / ML model. Specifically, Fig. 4 illustrates a beam prediction operation based on BM-Case1 (Spatial-domain DL beam prediction).

[0164] BM-case 1: Spatial-domain DL beam prediction uses measurements based on fewer RSs (e.g., CSI-RS and / or SSB) as AI / ML inputs, compared to the existing method of sweeping the entire spatial beam / beampair set. This use case estimates the index and / or corresponding RSRP of the best beam from the entire beam / beampair.

[0165] Referring to FIG. 4, for BM-Case 1, measurements (4A) of Set B (unless otherwise specified) can be used as inputs to a model (4B) to predict the Top-1 beam and / or Top-N beams (4C) of Set A. For example, the output (4C) of the model (4B) can include the probability that each of the beams of Set A becomes the Top-1 beam and / or the predicted L1-RSRPs.

[0166] Figure 5 illustrates another example of beam prediction based on an AI / ML model. Specifically, Figure 5 illustrates a beam prediction operation based on BM-Case2 (Temporal DL beam prediction).

[0167] BM-case 2: Temporal-domain DL beam prediction is a use case that estimates the index and / or corresponding RSRP of the best beam of (multiple) future beams / beam pairs based on past beam measurement information. BM-case2 may include BM-Case1.

[0168] Referring to FIG. 5, in the case of BM-Case2, temporal DL beam prediction for beams in Set A can be performed using measurements from historic time instance(s) (5A) as input to the model (5B).

[0169] For the above BM-Case 1 and BM-Case 2, DL Tx beam prediction / DL Tx-Rx beam pair prediction may be included.

[0170] In this specification, Set A, Set B, Set C, etc. may be defined as follows for convenience of explanation. However, 'Set A', 'Set B', and 'Set C' are only for distinguishing beams (RS indices), and are not intended to limit the technical ideas of this specification to the terms.

[0171] Set A: The entire beam / beam pair set for beam prediction.

[0172] Set B: A set of beam / beam pairs corresponding to the information provided as input to AI / ML.

[0173] Set C: beam / beam pair set where the terminal performs actual measurement

[0174] Problems to be solved

[0175] For BM case 1 / 2, a model can be trained using fixed / preconfigured set B patterns among beams in set A at the NW, and beam prediction operations can be performed based on the model. Training performance may vary depending on the pattern used to configure set B. Therefore, instructions regarding set B patterns may be required from the NW to the terminal, or vice versa.

[0176] This specification proposes the following methods to solve the above-described problems. Below, we examine methods for effectively indicating the set B beam pattern.

[0177] Proposal 1

[0178] A method of setting a set B beam pattern (e.g. RS indices) based on a bitmap may be considered.

[0179] Instructions for Set A can be performed as follows:

[0180] Set A can be set / indicated based on i) the number of horizontal beams (or the number of N1 domain beams) and / or ii) the number of vertical beams (or the number of N2 domain beams).

[0181] The number of horizontal / vertical beams can be set / indicated based on parameters such as N1, O1, N2, O2, etc., similar to the codebook parameters. For Ni (i=1,2), Oi represents the number of antenna ports (elements) in the Ni domain, and Set A represents the oversampling factor of the Ni domain. Set A can be indicated based on the codebook structure. This will be described in detail below.

[0182] An example of codebook-based beam generation and parameterization

[0183] Analog beamforming can be configured as a weighting vector of TXRU virtualization, and can be configured as follows using the 2D subarray model of FD-MIMO.

[0184]

[0185] Here, d v , d H is the spacing of each antenna element, is the carrier frequency, and w o The length of v is given by K = M / N1', and i The length of is given by L = N / N2'. K is the number of antenna elements in the N1 domain per TXRU, L is the number of antenna elements in the N2 domain per TXRU, and O1 TXRU Wow O2 TXRUis the oversampling factor of the 1-DFT beam formed by the elements of each domain constituting the TXRU. And, represents the N1 domain specific orientation angle, represents the specific orientation angle of the N2 domain. If N1 is the horizontal domain and N2 is the vertical domain, it can be expressed as the scan and tilt angle. Therefore, the shape of the final Tx analog beam is as shown in mathematical equation 2.

[0186]

[0187] In the case of mathematical expression 2, if antenna element indexing for virtualization is performed in the N2 direction first, mathematical expression 2 should be converted to mathematical expression 3 if antenna element indexing for virtualization is performed in the N1 direction.

[0188]

[0189] The direction that the analog beam aims at can be 2D as described above, or it can aim at only a 1D direction using only vectors corresponding to horizontal or vertical virtualization. In this specification, a 2D analog beam based on mathematical expression 2 is used for convenience of explanation.

[0190] Each vector in mathematical expression 1 can be expressed as a DFT beam through a mathematical relationship, and for example, if expressed as tilting and converted, it can be expressed as follows.

[0191]

[0192] Using mathematical equation 4, mathematical equation 1 can be expressed as follows.

[0193]

[0194] In mathematical expression 5, k=0,쪋,oK-1, l=0,쪋,oL-1. Then, the maximum size of the analog codebook is L * O1 TXRU Wow K * O2 TXRU It can be expressed as a product of .

[0195] The configuration of the above analog codebook allows the resulting tilting angle and scan angle to be set uniformly for all azimuth angles and zenith angles (e.g., , assuming the range of zenith angle in the above example is -pi to pi, and azimuth angle is -pi / 3 to pi / 3).

[0196] or , A codebook can be constructed by uniformly dividing the boundary points of analog beams by the number of analog beams.

[0197] The number of analog beams used and the boundary values of the analog beam angles can be set / instructed to the terminal based on RRC signaling.

[0198] The Set B beam instructions are explained below with reference to Fig. 6.

[0199] FIG. 6 illustrates a bitmap-based beam pattern according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0200] Referring to Figure 6, Set A can be defined as follows.

[0201] Set A = Horizontal 8 * vertical 4 = 32 beams

[0202] Set B beam pattern can be indicated using a 32-bitmap.

[0203] Set B is for DL beam prediction as AI input for beam prediction, and set B may include a subset of beams selected from the entire beam set A that may be related to AI output or gNB / UE beam configuration. The number of analog beams and the boundary values of the analog beam angles for Set A may be set / instructed to the terminal based on RRC signaling.

[0204] Set B, a subset of Set A, can be configured in various ways based on a 32-bitmap. For example, unallocated beams in the 32-bitmap can be set to 1 (or 0), and allocated beams can be set to 0 (or 1). A codebook can be configured by evenly dividing the boundary points of analog beams by the number of analog beams. The number of analog beams to be configured and the boundary values of the analog beam angles can be set / instructed to the terminal based on RRC signaling.

[0205] The following examples may be considered for beam set scalability. Only one bitmap (e.g., 32-bitmap) for a specific number of bits may be designated. Based on predefined rules, a beam set larger or smaller than the beam set based on the bitmap may be designated. Specific examples are provided below.

[0206] In the above example, instructions for 128 beams can be performed based on a 32-bitmap (reference bitmap) for 32 beams. For example, the number of beams for horizontal / vertical (or N1 domain / N2 domain) can be indicated as 16 and 8, respectively. Based on the number of beams for horizontal / vertical (16, 8) and the size of the reference bitmap (8, 4), a scaling factor can be calculated. That is, the scaling factor for horizontal can be calculated as 2, and the scaling factor for vertical can be calculated as 2. The reference bitmap can be expanded and applied based on the calculated scaling factor. That is, the reference bitmap can be interpreted as one element of the bitmap for instructions related to 128 beams. The terminal can interpret / apply a bitmap consisting of 4 elements (2 X 2 reference bitmaps) as a bitmap for 128 beams.

[0207] Proposal 2

[0208] A method of setting the set B beam pattern in two stages may be considered. This will be described below with reference to FIGS. 7 to 10.

[0209] FIG. 7 illustrates beam pattern setting based on multiple bitmaps according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0210] Proposal 2-1

[0211] Referring to Figure 7, Set A is assumed to have Horizontal 16 * Vertical 8 = 128 beams.

[0212] Referring to (a) of Fig. 7, 1 stBased on a bitmap (e.g. 8 bit), a subset(s) of set A beams can be indicated (e.g. 01101010).

[0213] Referring to (b) of Fig. 7, the same pattern is applied to each of the allocated subsets. 1 st For each subset allocated based on the bitmap, 2 nd A pattern based on a bitmap (e.g. 16 bit) can be applied. The pattern for the allocated subset is 2 nd Can be set / indicated based on a bitmap (e.g. 16 bit).

[0214] FIG. 8 illustrates a beam pattern constructed based on a plurality of bitmaps according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0215] Specifically, FIG. 8 is 1 according to (a) of FIG. 7 described above. st 2 according to bitmap and (b) of Fig. 7 nd An example of a set B beam pattern constructed based on a bitmap is shown.

[0216] Proposal 2-2

[0217] 1 st Based on a bitmap (e.g., 8 bits), subset(s) of set A beams can be indicated (e.g., 01101010). The pattern for the assigned subset is 2 nd It can be set based on a bitmap. At this time, the above 2 nd The bitmap can be determined by the terminal.

[0218] Proposal 2-3

[0219] The same pattern based on the bitmap can be set for all subsets of set A beams. This is explained with reference to Fig. 9.

[0220] FIG. 9 illustrates a beam pattern in which the same bitmap is applied to all subsets according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0221] Referring to Fig. 9, the same pattern is applied to all sections (8 subsets) based on 128 beams. In this case, the same pattern is applied to i) 2 sections indicated by the base station / NW. nd bitmap or ii) 2 determined by the terminal nd It can be set based on a bitmap.

[0222] Proposal 2-4

[0223] As in the above-mentioned proposals, the set B beam pattern is set in two stages, and at this time, the 2nd bitmap is set based on the 1st bitmap. nd The bitmap size can be determined. This is described in detail with reference to Figure 10 below.

[0224] FIG. 10 illustrates a beam pattern based on a first bitmap and a second bitmap determined based on the first bitmap according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0225] Referring to (a) of Fig. 10, subsets of set A beams can be indicated (e.g., 4 subsets) based on the 1st bitmap (e.g., 8-bit bitmap, 01100110). 2 nd The bitmap size can be determined based on the number of subsets indicated based on the 1st bitmap (e.g., 8-bit bitmap) (e.g., 16 * 4 = 64 bits). If 4 subsets are indicated, 2 of 64 bits nd A set B beam pattern can be set based on a bitmap. In Fig. 10 (a), the pattern is shown to be set identically for each subset, but a pattern composed of different beams can be set for each subset.

[0226] (b) of Fig. 10 is the 1st bitmap and 2 described above. nd Represents a set B beam pattern constructed based on a bitmap.

[0227] When the number of beams in set A is large, Proposal 2 can be applied considering the overhead required for indicating set B. According to Proposal 2, the number of bits required to configure the set B beam pattern based on two bitmaps is smaller than the number of bits required to consider all beams in set A. Therefore, the number of bits required for setting / indicating set B can be reduced.

[0228] When setting Set B, the number of analog beams set for the 1st bitmap and the 2nd bitmap and the boundary values of the analog beam angle can be set to the terminal based on RRC signaling.

[0229] Proposal 3

[0230] A method of using a preset set B pattern between the base station / NW and the terminal may be considered.

[0231] Proposal 3-1

[0232] One of the preset set B patterns may be indicated. For example, it may be assumed that four set B patterns are predefined / set. The terminal may receive information indicating one of the four set B patterns (e.g., 00, 01, 10, or 11) from the base station / NW.

[0233] Proposal 3-2

[0234] The preset set B patterns can be used sequentially. For example, one of the preset set B patterns can be used in order based on the time instance related to the above-described beam prediction. As a specific example, if four set B patterns are set / defined, the order can be defined as 1,2,3,4 (or 2, 1, 3, 4, etc.). Based on the time instance, among the four set B patterns, a set B pattern based on the order (e.g., 1, 2, 3, or 4) can be applied. In other words, the set B pattern applied / used based on the order can be changed based on the time instance.

[0235] According to Proposal 3-1, no bit(s) are required to set the beam pattern. That is, Proposal 3-1 requires only as many bits as can express one of the preset set B patterns, which can reduce the number of bits required for the set B instruction.

[0236] The operation based on Proposal 3-2 can be performed without separate setup. That is, one of the preset set B beam patterns can be determined based on the above-described order.

[0237] Proposal 4

[0238] It can be assumed that Set B is smaller than Set C. That is, the number of beams in Set B may be smaller than the number of beams in Set C. The terminal can additionally report to the base station information on beams that are not used as AI / ML input (Set B) among Set C.

[0239] This embodiment may be particularly useful when Set A and Set B are different. However, this embodiment may also be applied when Set B is a subset of Set A.

[0240] Proposal 5

[0241] If Set A and Set B are different (i.e., if Set B is not a subset of Set A), linkage information (mapping information) of Set A and Set B can be set / instructed to the terminal. This is explained below with reference to FIG. 11.

[0242] FIG. 11 illustrates mapping between beam sets according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0243] In Fig. 11, it is assumed that Set A consists of 32 narrow beams and Set B consists of 3 wide beams. In this case, information regarding how Set B is distributed within Set A can be additionally set / instructed to the terminal.

[0244] Specifically, Fig. 11 illustrates four set B beams mapped to beams of Set A of the entire 4by8. In this case, the mapping between Set B and Set A can be based on one of two forms (Fig. 11 (a), (b)).

[0245] The base station can set / instruct mapping information (e.g., (a) or (b) of FIG. 11) to the terminal.

[0246] For example, the mapping information may be defined as follows. The mapping information may indicate the range of a Set A beam over which one Set B beam overlaps.

[0247] In the case of (a) of Fig. 11, the range of the Set A beam overlapping one Set B beam can be set / indicated as 2-by-4 based on the mapping information. In the case of (b) of Fig. 11, the range of the Set A beam overlapping one Set B beam can be set / indicated as 4-by-2. For convenience of explanation, it is assumed in the above example that the vertical direction is the N1 domain and the horizontal direction is the N2 domain. If the opposite is assumed, the mapping information can also be indicated differently. That is, (a) of Fig. 11 can be set / indicated as 4-by-2, and (b) of Fig. 11 can be set / indicated as 2-by-4.

[0248] In terms of implementation, the operations of the base station / terminal according to the embodiments described above (e.g., operations based on at least one of Proposals 1 to 5) can be processed by the devices of FIGS. 14 to 16 (e.g., the processor (110, 210) of FIG. 14).

[0249] In addition, the operations of the base station / terminal according to the above-described embodiment (e.g., operations based on at least one of proposals 1 to 5) may be stored in a memory (e.g., 140, 240 of FIG. 14) in the form of commands / programs (e.g., instructions, executable codes) for driving at least one processor (e.g., 110, 210 of FIG. 14).

[0250] The embodiments described below are specifically described with reference to FIGS. 12 and 13 in terms of the operation of the terminal and base station. The methods described below are distinguished for convenience of explanation, and it is understood that some components of one method may be substituted for or combined with some components of another method.

[0251] FIG. 12 is a flowchart illustrating a method according to one embodiment of the present specification.

[0252] Referring to FIG. 12, a method according to one embodiment of the present specification includes a step of receiving setting information (S1210) and a step of transmitting a report based on the setting information (S1220).

[0253] In S1210, the terminal receives configuration information from the base station.

[0254] The above configuration information can be received based on higher layer signaling (e.g., RRC signaling).

[0255] Specifically, the configuration information may include information based on at least one of i) beam management, ii) CSI-related operations, iii) AI / ML, and / or iv) Proposals 1 to 5.

[0256] For example, the configuration information may include information related to a CSI report. A report quantity may be set based on the configuration information. The report quantity may be related to information reported by the terminal. For example, the report quantity may be set to indicate at least one of i) a Reference Signal (RS) index (e.g., SSB Resource Indicator (SSBRI) and / or CSI-RS Resource Indicator (CRI), ii) Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), iii) a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI), and / or iv) a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI).

[0257] In S1220, the terminal transmits a report based on the above setting information to the base station.

[0258] For example, the report may include information set to be reported based on the setup information.

[0259] For example, the report may include at least one of i) a Reference Signal (RS) index (e.g., an SSB Resource Indicator (SSBRI) and / or a CSI-RS Resource Indicator (CRI), ii) a Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), iii) a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI), and / or iv) a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI).

[0260] At this time, the information included in the report may be related to the BM-case1 and / or BM-case2 described above. As a specific example, the report may include i) RS index(es) and ii) RSRP(s) related to the RS index(es). The RS index(es) and the RSRP(s) may be based on measurement results or inference results. This will be described in detail with reference to Proposals 1 to 5 below.

[0261] In one embodiment, the report may include information related to a predicted RS index among a plurality of reference signal (RS) indices.

[0262] For example, the plurality of RS indices may be associated with beams of the above-described Set A. The plurality of RS indices may be set based on the upper layer parameter CSI-ResourceConfig.

[0263] For example, the measurement associated with the report may be based on information indicating one or more RS indices. The information indicating the one or more RS indices may be information related to beams of the above-described Set B.

[0264] For example, the information indicating the one or more RS indices may be based on the parameters for beam management described above. For example, the upper layer parameter CSI-ResourceConfig may include the information (e.g., a bitmap or mapping information) indicating the one or more RS indices. For example, the information (e.g., a bitmap or mapping information) indicating the one or more RS indices may be set based on the upper layer parameter CSI-ResourceConfig.

[0265] The information indicating one or more of the RS indices may be set based on i) a bitmap (e.g., proposals 1 to 3) or ii) mapping information (e.g., proposal 5). Embodiments related to the bitmap and mapping information will be described in turn below.

[0266] In one embodiment, the information indicating the one or more RS indices may be set based on a bitmap. That is, the information indicating the one or more RS indices may be set as a bitmap(s) based on at least one of Proposals 1 to 3.

[0267] In one embodiment, information indicating a bitmap among a plurality of bitmaps may be set based on upper layer signaling. This embodiment may be based on Proposal 3-1. As a specific example, the plurality of bitmaps may be set based on at least one upper layer parameter CSI-ResourceConfig. In this case, the at least one upper layer parameter CSI-ResourceConfig may be indicated based on the setting information. That is, one of the plurality of bitmaps may be indicated based on the setting information.

[0268] In one embodiment, the bitmap may be determined based on an order related to a time instance among a plurality of bitmaps. This embodiment may be based on Proposal 3-2. The bitmap may be changed based on the time instance. The time instance may include i) a time instance for the measurement, ii) a time instance for prediction (e.g., model-based beam prediction), or ii) a time instance for the report.

[0269] In one embodiment, the bitmap may include a first bitmap and a second bitmap. This embodiment may be based on Proposal 2-1. Specifically, one or more subsets among the subsets associated with the plurality of RS indices may be set based on the first bitmap. The RS index(es) belonging to each of the one or more subsets may be set based on the second bitmap.

[0270] In one embodiment, an RS index belonging to each of the subsets associated with the plurality of RS indices may be set based on the bitmap. This embodiment may be based on Proposal 2-3. That is, the bitmap may be 2 representing the RS index(es) within each subset. nd It can be a bitmap.

[0271] According to one embodiment, information indicating the one or more RS indices may be set based on mapping information. This embodiment may be based on proposal 5. Specifically, the number of RS indices mapped to each of the one or more RS indices among the plurality of RS indices may be indicated based on the mapping information. Referring to FIG. 11, the plurality of RS indices may be related to beams of Set A (e.g., 32 narrow beams), and the one or more RS indices may be related to beams of Set B (e.g., 3 wide beams among 4 wide beams). As an example, the number of RS indices mapped to each of the one or more RS indices may be indicated in the form of a first number * a second number (e.g., 4by2 or 2by4). The first number may be the number of beams in a horizontal domain or the number of beams in a vertical domain. The second number may be the number of beams in a vertical domain or the number of beams in a horizontal domain.

[0272] In one embodiment, the information related to the predicted RS index may be based on measurement results (e.g., information for input of a network-side model) or inference results (e.g., information based on output of a terminal-side model). Specifically, the information related to the predicted RS index may include i) at least one RS index and / or ii) at least one Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) related to the at least one RS index.

[0273] As an example of the above measurement results, the at least one RS index may mean M RS index(es) having the highest RSRP among the one or more RS indices (e.g., beams of Set B). The at least one RSRP may mean one or more RSRPs based on the one or more RS indices. 'M' may be 1 or greater.

[0274] As an example of the above inference results, the at least one RS index may refer to K RS index(es) having the highest predicted RSRP among the plurality of RS indices (e.g., beams of Set A). The at least one RSRP may refer to the predicted RSRP(s) of the K RS index(es). 'K' may be 1 or greater.

[0275] For example, the at least one RS index may be associated with at least one future time instance. If BM-case1 is assumed, the at least one RS index may be associated with one future time instance. If BM-case2 is assumed, the at least one RS index may be associated with one or more future time instances (e.g., N (N>=1) future time instances).

[0276] In one embodiment, the measurement may be associated with at least one time instance. For example, if BM-case1 is assumed, the measurement may be based on one time instance. For example, if BM-case2 is assumed, the measurement may be based on one or more time instances (e.g., historic time instance(s)).

[0277] In one embodiment, the measurement may be related to the input of the model. The predicted RS index may be related to the output of the model.
