Abstract
Description
Wireless paging area management method, device, equipment, medium and program product
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This disclosure claims priority to Chinese patent application number 202311268514.0, filed on September 27, 2023, entitled “Wireless Paging Area Management Method, Apparatus, Equipment and Medium,” and the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] The present disclosure relates to the field of wireless communication technology, and in particular to a wireless paging area management method, apparatus, device, medium, and program product. Background Art
[0004] For inactive terminals (UEs), 5G (5th Generation Mobile Communication Technology) introduces RAN-Based Notification Areas (RNAs), which are smaller than Tracking Areas (TAs). Overly large RAN-based notification areas can lead to paging congestion, while overly small areas can easily cause paging failures. Therefore, RAN-based notification areas are dynamically optimized and adjusted.
[0005] It should be noted that the information disclosed in the above background technology section is only used to enhance the understanding of the background of the present disclosure, and therefore may include information that does not constitute prior art known to ordinary technicians in the field.
[0006] Summary of the Invention
[0007] Through research, the inventors discovered that the existing paging statistics method uses the paging instructions received by the base station (gNB) as the statistical point. This statistical method will repeatedly count the same actual paging, making the paging success rate calculated based on this method inaccurate and thus unable to effectively guide the adjustment of wireless paging areas.
[0008] In response to the above problems, the present application discloses a wireless paging area management method, device, equipment, medium and program product, which adjusts the statistical method of the total number and success number of wireless access network paging requests in paging statistics, making the statistical results more accurate, and thus can provide an important reference for the optimization and adjustment of wireless paging areas, improve the rationality of wireless paging area adjustments, and enhance user experience.
[0009] As an example, the interpretation of the terms in this application refers to the definitions of the TS28 series of specification protocols of 3GPP.
[0010] Other features and advantages of the present disclosure will become apparent from the following detailed description, or may be learned in part by practice of the present disclosure.
[0011] According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a wireless paging area management method is provided, which is applied to the network side. The method includes: counting the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station, wherein multiple paging requests sent to the same terminal are counted as one time; counting the number of successful wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station; and optimizing the configuration of the wireless paging area based on the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station and the number of successful wireless network-initiated paging requests.
[0012] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station is counted, including: the paging request message initiated by the wireless network is sent by the centralized unit of the base station to request the distributed unit to page the terminal, and when the value of the paging selection identifier in the paging request message is the wireless network terminal paging identifier, it is recorded as one paging request.
[0013] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the base station does not include wireless network paging requests sent by other base stations and received by the base station.

[0017] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, if the paging success rate is lower than the first success rate threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is expanded, including: if the paging success rate is lower than the first success rate threshold, the value of the counter is increased; when the value of the counter reaches the first counting threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is expanded.
[0018] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, increasing the value of the counter includes: determining the size of the value increased by the counter based on the difference between the first success rate threshold and the current paging success rate, and / or the paging success rate statistical period; wherein, the greater the difference between the first success rate threshold and the current paging success rate, the greater the value increased by the counter; the longer the paging success rate statistical period, the greater the value increased by the counter.
[0019] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, if the paging success rate is higher than the second success rate threshold, the scope of the wireless paging area is reduced, including: if the paging success rate is higher than the second success rate threshold, reducing the value of the counter; when the value of the counter reaches the second counting threshold, reducing the scope of the wireless paging area.
[0020] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, when the value of the counter reaches the second counting threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is narrowed, including: when the value of the counter reaches the second counting threshold and the paging success rate at this time is greater than the third success rate threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is narrowed.
[0021] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, the third success rate threshold is less than the target paging success rate.
[0022] In one embodiment of the present disclosure, the number of successful paging requests initiated by the wireless network sent by the base station is counted, including: in the following situations, it is recorded as one successful paging request initiated by the wireless network: an RRC recovery request message sent by the terminal is received, or a terminal context acquisition message sent by another base station is received, the terminal context acquisition message carries the inactive radio network temporary identifier I-RNTI of the terminal, and the message integrity check identifier MAC-I is successfully verified.

[0028] According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a computer-readable storage medium is provided, on which computer instructions are stored. When the computer instructions are executed by a processor, the above-mentioned wireless paging area management method is implemented.
[0029] According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a computer program product is provided. The computer program product stores instructions, and when the instructions are executed by a computer, the computer implements the above-mentioned wireless paging area management method.
[0030] According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a chip is provided, comprising at least one processor and an interface; the interface is configured to provide program instructions or data to the at least one processor; and the at least one processor is configured to execute the program instructions to implement the above-mentioned wireless paging area management method.
[0031] The wireless paging area management method, apparatus, device, and medium provided by the embodiments of the present disclosure utilize a network-side method to count the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests and the number of successful paging requests sent by a base station. Based on this, the configuration of the wireless paging area is optimized. Because the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by a base station is not affected by the number of paging requests sent by other base stations, the counted number of wireless network-initiated paging requests and the number of successful paging requests are more accurate. Consequently, using this number of wireless network-initiated paging requests and the number of successful paging requests as a reference allows for more accurate optimization and adjustment of the wireless paging area.

[0043] Example embodiments will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0044] It should be noted that example embodiments may be implemented in many forms and should not be construed as limited to the examples set forth herein.
[0045] For ease of understanding, the following first explains the relevant technologies and terms involved in this disclosure:
[0046] Inactive: One of the three RRC (Radio Resource Control) states in 5G / NR. Compared to LTE (Long Term Evolution), NR adds the Inactive state. In this state, the UE (User Equipment) stores AS context information, monitors paging, and performs cell reselection procedures. In the RRC Inactive state, the UE and gNB maintain only the RRC and PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol) layer connection, and the gNB and UE release the C-RNTI context. Releasing only air interface resources simplifies the RRC state transition process, reduces latency for users to return to the connected state, and reduces signaling overhead.
[0047] RNA (RAN-Based Notification Area): RNA consists of one or more cells, and the cells within the same RNA need to belong to the same TAC area. In order to save transmission overhead, it is necessary to reduce the scope of the paging message. To reduce the scope of the paging message, the network side needs to manage the area where the UE is located with a smaller granularity. For UEs in the RRC idle state, the minimum granularity area managed by the network side can only reach the TA of the core network. For UEs in the RRC Inactive state, in order to further save the transmission overhead of paging messages, RNA with a smaller range than the TA is introduced. RNA is managed by gNB, and gNB can page the UE (RAN paging) based on RNA to find the UE. This is called terminal tracking at the radio access network level.
[0048] Based on the background technology part, it can be known that if the wireless paging area is divided too large, it will cause paging congestion, and if the division is too small, it will easily lead to paging failure. Specifically, the number of UEs in the RRC_INACTIVE state may be large. If the RNA division is too large, it will cause paging congestion; the UE location update cycle in the RRC_INACTIVE state is long. If the RNA division is too small, it will easily lead to paging failure; the inconsistency of UE behavior, if the RNA is not dynamically adjusted, it is easy to have unreasonable RNA division problems.
[0049] Existing paging statistics methods don't specifically account for inactive states. Existing paging statistics use the paging command received by the gNB as the counting point, resulting in duplicate counting of the same actual page. For example, if a terminal is in cell A and initiates a RAN paging, all cells in the same RAN will receive the paging message, which serves as the denominator. Ultimately, the response message from cell A serves as the numerator and indicator of a successful paging. However, this is actually just the same page for the same terminal, resulting in duplicate counting of the denominator.
[0050] To solve the above problem, the embodiments of the present disclosure change the statistical point. Based on the characteristics of RAN paging, the paging request received from the gNB is replaced by the paging request sent by the gNB, thereby avoiding repeated counting of paging requests for the same terminal.
[0051] This exemplary implementation is described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings and examples.
[0052] FIG1 shows a flow chart of a wireless paging area management method in an embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG1 , the wireless paging area management method provided in an embodiment of the present disclosure includes steps S102 - S106 .
[0053] In S102, the network side counts the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station (gNB).
[0054] Specifically, the statistics here may be the number of paging requests initiated by the base station centralized unit (gNB-CU) from the wireless network.
[0055] In one embodiment, the paging request message initiated by the wireless network is sent by the centralized unit of the base station to request the distributed unit to page the terminal. When the value of the paging selection identifier in the paging request message is the wireless network terminal paging identifier, it is recorded as a paging request.
[0056] The network side statistics may specifically be the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the home base station (gNB) in a specified area.
[0057] The designated area may be an area range. As an example, the designated area may be a cell or multiple cells.
[0058] A RAN-initiated paging request from a home base station in a specified area can be a NG-RAN-initiated paging request from a gNB-CU. For example, a RAN PAGING message (requesting a gNB-DU to page a UE) sent by the gNB-CU over the F1 interface, with the CHOICE Paging Identity field set to the RAN UE Paging Identity, is considered a paging request.
[0059] In some embodiments, when counting the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station (gNB), multiple paging requests sent to the same terminal are counted as one time.
[0060] In some embodiments, the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by a base station does not include wireless network paging requests sent by other base stations and received by the base station.
[0061] It should be noted that the times in the embodiments of the present disclosure are all integers.
[0062] In S104, the network side counts the number of successful paging requests initiated by the base station.
[0063] In some embodiments, the number of successful paging requests initiated by the wireless network sent by the base station is counted, including the following situations, which are recorded as 1 successful paging request initiated by the wireless network: receiving an RRC recovery request message sent by the terminal, or receiving a terminal context acquisition (RETRIEVE UE CONTEXT REQUEST) message sent by another base station, the terminal context acquisition message carries the terminal's inactive radio network temporary identifier I-RNTI (Inactive-RNTI, Inactive Radio Network Temporary Identifier), and the message integrity check identifier MAC-I (Message Authentication Code for Integrity) is successfully verified.
[0064] That is, after the gNB sends RAN PAGING, if it receives an "RRC RESUME Request" (RRCResumeRequest or RRCResumeRequest1) message from the UE, or if the gNB receives a RETRIEVE UE CONTEXT REQUEST message from another gNB via the Xn interface, which carries the UE's IRNTI and the MACI verification succeeds, then paging is considered successful.
[0065] In S106, the network side optimizes the configuration of the wireless paging area based on the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the base station and the number of successful wireless network initiated paging requests.
[0066] In some embodiments, S106 may be adjusting the range of the wireless paging area based on the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the base station and the number of successful wireless network initiated paging requests.
[0067] Optimizing the configuration of the wireless paging area may include determining whether to adjust the range of the wireless paging area relative to the designated area, and adjusting it if necessary.
[0068] The network side adjusts the scope of the wireless paging area based on the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the base station and the number of successful wireless network initiated paging requests. There are many ways, such as the following two embodiments.
[0069] In one embodiment, the network side adjusts the range of the wireless paging area based on the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the base station and the number of successful wireless network initiated paging requests, as shown in FIG. 2 , including steps S202 - S204 .
[0070] In S202, the network side calculates a paging success rate based on the number of paging requests initiated by the wireless network and the number of successful paging requests initiated by the wireless network sent by the base station.
[0071] As an example, the paging success rate can be calculated using the following formula:
[0072] Among them, PAG.SentNbrRanIntiatedSucc indicates the number of successful radio network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station (gNB), and PAG.SentNbrRanIntiated indicates the total number of radio network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station (gNB).
[0073] In S204, based on the paging success rate, it is determined whether to adjust the range of the wireless paging area.
[0074] In another embodiment, the network side adjusts the scope of the wireless paging area based on the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests and the number of successful paging requests initiated by the wireless network sent by the base station. This can be done by first determining whether the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station within a preset time period is within a certain range (for example, greater than a first number threshold and less than a second number threshold). If the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station is within the range, it is further determined whether the number of successful paging requests initiated by the wireless network is within another range condition (for example, greater than a third number threshold and less than a fourth number threshold). If the number of successful paging requests initiated by the wireless network is within the preset range condition, no optimization adjustment is performed. Otherwise, the adjustment method can be determined based on the relationship between the number of successful paging requests and the third number threshold and the fourth number threshold. In addition, optimization adjustment can also be performed when the number of wireless network-initiated paging requests sent by the base station is not within the above range.
[0075] It should be noted that the network side can adjust the scope of the wireless paging area in various ways based on the number of wireless network initiated paging requests sent by the base station and the number of successful wireless network initiated paging requests, which will not be detailed here.
[0076] The number of paging requests received from the gNB is used as the statistical denominator. For NG-RAN initiated paging, all gNBs within the RNA range receive the paging request. If the statistics are based on paging requests received by the base station (gNB-CU), the same paging will be counted once for each gNB. Furthermore, a paging failure will be counted for a gNB other than the UE, and only a successful paging will be counted for the gNB where the UE is located, affecting the judgment of network-wide paging success. The disclosed embodiments change the statistical point. Based on the characteristics of RAN paging, the paging requests received from the gNB are replaced by the paging requests sent by the gNB. This avoids duplicate counting of paging requests for the same terminal, eliminates duplicate paging counts, improves the accuracy of cell paging success rate statistics, and makes it more reasonable to use it to determine RNA planning and configuration.
[0077] The following describes in detail the process of optimizing the configuration of the wireless paging area in S106 by taking the example of determining whether to adjust the range of the wireless paging area based on the paging success rate.
[0078] In one embodiment, as shown in FIG3 , the above S204 determines whether to adjust the range of the wireless paging area based on the paging success rate, which may include S302 and S304 .
[0079] In S302, if the paging success rate is lower than the first success rate threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is expanded.
[0080] In S304, if the paging success rate is higher than the second success rate threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is reduced.
[0081] In the above text, the first success rate threshold is less than the second success rate threshold.
[0082] In some embodiments, for the scenario of expanding RNA, the present disclosure sets the adjustment coefficient of the counter step by integral smoothing. As shown in FIG4 , if the paging success rate in the above S302 is lower than the first success rate threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is expanded, including S3021 and S3022.
[0083] In S3021, if the paging success rate is lower than the first success rate threshold, the value of the counter is increased;
[0084] In S3022, when the value of the counter reaches a first counting threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is expanded.
[0085] In some embodiments, increasing the value of the counter includes: determining the size of the value increased by the counter based on the difference between the first success rate threshold and the current paging success rate, and / or the paging success rate statistical period; wherein, the greater the difference between the first success rate threshold and the current paging success rate, the greater the value increased by the counter; the longer the paging success rate statistical period, the greater the value increased by the counter.
[0086] In some embodiments, the value by which the counter is incremented may be determined by the following formula:
[0087] Cnt_int+=constant 1*(standard threshold - current paging success rate)*paging success rate statistical period
[0088] Among them, Cnt_int+ represents the value of the counter increase, the role of "(standard threshold - current paging success rate)" is that the farther away from the target value, the larger the step size should be, and the role of "paging success rate statistical period" is that the longer the period, that is, the smaller the sampling sample size, the larger the step size should be.
[0089] In the embodiment of the present disclosure, when the paging success rate is lower than the first success rate threshold, the counter value is increased, and when the counter value reaches the first counting threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is expanded, thereby avoiding frequent operations caused by data errors.
[0090] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG5 , if the paging success rate is higher than the second success rate threshold in S304 , then narrowing the range of the wireless paging area may include S3041 and S3042 .
[0091] In S3041, if the paging success rate is higher than the second success rate threshold, the value of the counter is reduced.
[0092] Here, decreasing the value of the counter may be performed in a manner similar to increasing the value of the counter as described above, or may be performed by decreasing the value of a preset constant.
[0093] In S3042, when the value of the counter reaches the second counting threshold, the range of the wireless paging area is reduced.
[0094] In one embodiment, when the counter value reaches the second counting threshold, the scope of the wireless paging area is reduced, including: when the counter value reaches the second counting threshold and the paging success rate at this time is greater than the third success rate threshold, the scope of the wireless paging area is reduced.
[0095] In one embodiment, the third success rate threshold is less than the standard paging success rate. The standard paging success rate is a paging success rate that meets the standard. The standard paging rate may be within the range of the first success rate threshold and the second success rate threshold. Here, the third success rate threshold being less than the standard paging success rate may mean that the third success rate threshold is less than the second success rate threshold.
[0096] The third success rate threshold is set to be smaller than the upper limit of the paging success rate, so as to create room for reasonable adjustment attempts.
[0097] FIG6 shows a schematic diagram of a process of adjusting the range of a wireless paging area in an embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG6 , adjusting the range of a wireless paging area may include steps S601 - S607 .
[0098] S601, initialize the decision integral counter (Cnt_int=0) and the paging success rate statistics table.
[0099] S602: Calculate the success rate of each paging.
[0100] S603, update the paging success rate statistics table: update the paging success rate statistics of the current RNA configuration in the table.
[0101] S604: Determine whether the current paging success rate is lower than the target paging success rate lower limit (the target paging success rate lower limit may be the first success rate threshold mentioned above).
[0102] As an example, if the lower limit of the target paging success rate is 90%, then a comparison is made to determine whether the current paging success rate is lower than 90%.
[0103] If yes in S604, it is considered that the current RNA region is too small, resulting in a low success rate, and it may be necessary to expand the RNA region. In this case, steps S605-S606 are executed.
[0104] S605, Cnt_int+=constant 1*(standard threshold-current paging success rate)*paging success rate statistical period; wherein Cnt_int+ represents the value of the counter increase.
[0105] Then, S606 is executed to determine whether the value of Cnt_int is greater than the upper limit value (the first counting threshold mentioned above).
[0106] If it is greater than the upper limit, execute S607 to expand the RNA range and set the value of Cnt_int+ to 0.
[0107] If the value is not greater than the upper limit, no adjustment is made.
[0108] In the embodiment of the present disclosure, in order to avoid frequent operations caused by data errors, for the scenario of expanding RNA, the adjustment coefficient of the counter step is set by integral smoothing, Cnt_int+=constant 1*(standard threshold-current paging success rate)*paging success rate statistical period, the role of "(standard threshold-current paging success rate)" is that the farther away from the target value, the larger the step size should be, and the role of "paging success rate statistical period" is that the longer the period, that is, the smaller the sampling sample size, so the step size should be larger.
[0109] If no in S604, S608 is executed to further determine whether the current paging success rate is higher than the target paging success rate upper limit (the second success rate threshold mentioned above).
[0110] As an example, if the upper limit of the target paging success rate is 95%, then a comparison is made to determine whether the current paging success rate is higher than 95%;
[0111] If no in S608, it means that the current paging success rate is within an acceptable range, and the status quo is maintained without adjustment.
[0112] If yes in S608, execute S609 to reduce the value of Cnt_int, Cnt_int=Cnt_int-constant 2.
[0113] Then, S610 is executed to determine whether the value of Cnt_int is less than the lower limit value (the second counting threshold mentioned above).
[0114] If not, no adjustment is made.
[0115] If yes, execute S611 to set Cnt_int to 0.
[0116] Then, execute S612 to query the paging success rate table to obtain the paging success rate corresponding to the new reduced RNA range configuration. S613 determines whether this paging success rate is greater than the tolerance threshold (the third success rate threshold in the previous article). S614 executes the new reduced RNA range configuration when the paging success rate is greater than the tolerance threshold. When the paging success rate is not greater than the tolerance threshold, no adjustment is made.
[0117] In this disclosed embodiment, a paging success rate table is queried to obtain the paging success rate corresponding to the new reduced RNA range configuration. If this paging success rate exceeds a tolerance threshold, the new reduced RNA range configuration is executed; otherwise, no action is taken. The tolerance threshold is typically set slightly lower than the minimum paging success rate threshold to create room for reasonable adjustment attempts.
[0118] In the embodiments of the present disclosure, the terms “first,” “second,” and “third” are used for descriptive purposes only and should not be understood as indicating or implying relative importance.

For example, A and / or B can represent: A exists alone, A and B exist simultaneously, and B exists alone. In addition, the character " / " in this document generally indicates that the related objects are in an "or" relationship.
[0120] Furthermore, although the steps of the methods of the present disclosure are depicted in a particular order in the drawings, this does not require or imply that the steps must be performed in this particular order, or that all illustrated steps must be performed to achieve desired results.
[0121] In some embodiments, certain steps may be omitted, multiple steps may be combined into one step, and / or one step may be decomposed into multiple steps.
[0122] Based on the same inventive concept, the present disclosure also provides a wireless paging area management device, as described in the following embodiments. Since the principle of solving the problem in the device embodiment is similar to that in the above method embodiment, the implementation of the device embodiment can refer to the implementation of the above method embodiment, and the repeated parts will not be repeated.
