Abstract
Description
Aerosol generating products and aerosol generating systems
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This application claims priority to the Chinese patent application filed with the China Patent Office on September 28, 2023, with application number 202311290013.2, entitled “Aerosol Generating Article and Aerosol Generating System,” the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] The embodiments of the present application relate to the technical field of heat-not-burn aerosol generation technology, and in particular to an aerosol generating product and an aerosol generating system. Background Art
[0004] Smoking articles (eg, cigarettes, cigars, etc.) burn tobacco during use to produce tobacco smoke. Attempts have been made to replace these tobacco-burning articles by creating products that release compounds without combustion.
[0005] Examples of such products are heating devices, which release compounds by heating rather than burning a material. For example, the material may be an aerosol-generating article containing tobacco or other non-tobacco products, which may or may not contain nicotine.
[0006] Known heating devices usually heat tobacco products by inserting a heating element into the interior of the tobacco product. However, during the process of heating the tobacco product by the heating element, residues in the tobacco product easily fall into the heating device, thereby affecting the user experience.
[0007] To this end, some tobacco products are equipped with a plug to support the tobacco. The heating element must pass through the plug before being inserted into the tobacco. The plug is intended to prevent tobacco residue from falling into the heating device when the heating element is removed. However, when heating tobacco, the heating element usually reaches a high temperature, which often exceeds the temperature tolerance of the plug. This can easily cause the plug to be burned by the heating element, which may cause the following two problems:
[0008] 1. The plug sticks to the heating element and then detaches from the cigarette when the heating element is pulled out, thus losing its function.
[0009] 2. The blockage produces odor, which not only affects the smoking taste, but also produces harmful substances.
[0010] Summary of the Invention
[0011] The present application provides an aerosol generating article and an aerosol generating system, which can effectively clean a heating element.
[0012] One embodiment of the present application provides an aerosol-generating article, comprising:
[0013] wrapping paper;
[0014] a filter element, allowing airflow to pass through and disposed within the wrapping paper;
[0015] an aerosol-forming substrate located within the wrapper and configured to generate an aerosol when heated by a heating element; and
[0016] a tail plug located within the wrapper, the tail plug being configured to be penetrated by the heating element when the heating element contacts the aerosol-forming substrate and to wipe the heating element when the heating element withdraws the tail plug;
[0017] There is a temperature reduction cavity between the tail plug and the aerosol-forming substrate. When the heating element contacts the aerosol-forming substrate, the temperature reduction cavity surrounds the heating element. The temperature reduction cavity is configured to reduce the temperature of the heating element surrounded by it.
[0018] One embodiment of the present application provides an aerosol generating system, comprising the aerosol generating article, and also comprising the heating element and a base for fixing the heating element, wherein the heating element comprises a heating part and a cooling part located between the heating part and the base: at least a portion of the heating part is configured to penetrate the tail plug and the temperature reduction chamber and contact the aerosol-forming substrate, and at least a portion of the cooling part is arranged in the tail plug and the temperature reduction chamber.
[0019] In the above-mentioned aerosol generating product and aerosol generating system, the heating element penetrates the tail plug and the temperature reduction chamber when contacting the aerosol forming matrix. The cooperation between the heating element and the tail plug enables the tail plug to wipe the heating element when the heating element is pulled out of the tail plug, and the temperature reduction chamber is located between the tail plug and the aerosol forming matrix, thereby preventing the residue in the aerosol forming matrix from falling, and cleaning the heating element, removing at least part of the aerosol forming matrix residue adhering to the heating element, and cooling the heating element locally through the temperature reduction chamber, so that the contact temperature between the heating element and the tail plug can be reduced to within the tolerance range of the tail plug, preventing the tail plug from being damaged by high-temperature burning of the heating element and preventing the tail plug from adhering to the heating element, thereby ensuring that the tail plug realizes its due function. [0046] With reference to Figures 1-3 and 17 , one embodiment of the present application provides an aerosol-generating article 1. As used herein, the term "aerosol-generating article 1" refers to an article comprising an aerosol-forming substrate 11 that, when heated, releases volatile compounds that can form an aerosol. In one embodiment, the aerosol-generating article 1 is removably coupled to an aerosol-generating device. The aerosol-generating article 1 can be disposable or reusable.
[0047] The aerosol-forming substrate 11 may comprise a solid aerosol-forming substrate. The solid aerosol-forming substrate may comprise a tobacco-containing material containing volatile tobacco flavour compounds that are released from the aerosol-forming substrate upon heating. The solid aerosol-forming substrate may comprise a non-tobacco material. The solid aerosol-forming substrate may comprise a tobacco-containing material as well as a non-tobacco material.
[0048] Aerosol forming matrix 11 can comprise liquid aerosol forming matrix. Liquid aerosol forming matrix can comprise liquid containing tobacco material containing volatile tobacco flavor components, can also be the liquid comprising non-tobacco material. Liquid aerosol forming matrix can comprise water, solvent, ethanol, plant extract, spices, flavoring agent or vitamin mixture etc., spices can comprise betel nut extract, menthol, peppermint, spearmint oil, various fruity fragrance components etc., but is not limited to this. Flavoring agent can comprise the component that can provide various fragrance or local flavor to the user. Vitamin mixture can be the mixture that is mixed with at least one of vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C and vitamin E, but is not limited to this.
[0049] Along the axial direction of the aerosol-generating article 1 , the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may have a predetermined length of 10-20 mm, for example a length d1 of approximately 10 mm, or may have a length d1 of approximately 12 mm.
[0050] The aerosol-generating article 1 may be generally cylindrical in shape. The aerosol-generating article 1 may have an overall length of between about 30 mm and about 100 mm. The aerosol-generating article 1 may have a diameter of between about 5 mm and about 12 mm, typically, for example, a diameter of 5.4 mm, such as a diameter of 7.2 mm.
[0051] The aerosol-generating article 1 comprises a wrapper 12 and a filter core 13 . The wrapper 12 may be configured in a tubular shape, and the filter core 13 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may be accommodated in the tubular wrapper 12 .
[0052] The wrapper 12 may be cigarette paper or the wrapper 12 may include tobacco.
[0053] A filter element 13 can be disposed at the mouth end of the aerosol-generating article 1. The filter element 13 allows airflow through the mouth end of the aerosol-generating article 1, and the mouth end of the aerosol-generating article 1 can be held in the mouth of the user. The filter element 13 can be made of any suitable filter material. Many such filter materials are known in the art. For example, a suitable filter material can be made of a length of cellulose acetate tow. Along the axial direction of the wrapper 12, the filter element 13 can have a length between approximately 5 mm and approximately 14 mm, for example, approximately 7 mm.
[0054] There may be a gap 14 between the filter element 13 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11 in the wrapper 12. The gap 14 may be in the range of about 5 mm to about 25 mm in the axial direction of the wrapper 12, for example about 18 mm.
[0055] With reference to Figures 1 to 3 and 17 , one embodiment of the present application provides an aerosol-generating system comprising an aerosol-generating article 1 and an aerosol-generating device capable of being combined with the aerosol-generating article 1 to enable the aerosol-generating article 1 to generate an aerosol. The aerosol-generating device is provided with a heating element 2. When the aerosol-generating article 1 is combined with the aerosol-generating device, at least a portion of the heating element 2 can be inserted into the interior of the aerosol-generating article 1 and contact an aerosol-forming substrate 11. The heat released by the heating element 2 can cause the aerosol-forming substrate 11 to generate an aerosol.
[0056] The aerosol-forming substrate 11 may shrink after heating and become loose within the wrapper 12. In such circumstances, fragments of the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may easily break away from the wrapper 12 and fall into the aerosol generating device when the heating element 2 is withdrawn. Furthermore, fragments of the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may adhere to the heating element 2. Residues of the aerosol-forming substrate 11 or residues derived from the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may be deposited or formed on the heating element 2.
[0057] In order to keep the interior of the aerosol generating device clean and the surface of the heating element 2 clean, the aerosol generating product 1 provided in the present application also includes a tail plug 15, which is located in the wrapping paper 12, and the aerosol forming matrix 11 is arranged between the tail plug 15 and the filter element 13. The tail plug 15 can be arranged adjacent to the end of the aerosol generating product 1. The tail plug 15 can be fixed to the wrapping paper 12 by gluing or other means. The tail plug 15 is configured to be penetrated by the heating element 2, and the heating element 2 contacts the aerosol forming matrix 11 through the rear of the tail plug 15. During the process of withdrawing the heating element 2 from the aerosol generating product 1, the tail plug 15 can intercept the aerosol forming matrix 11 to prevent at least part of the residue and fragments in the aerosol forming matrix 11 from falling out of the aerosol generating product 1.
[0058] In one embodiment, the tail plug 15 is configured to facilitate penetration of the heated element 2 by puncture. Before being penetrated by the heated element 2, the tail plug 15 may have good consistency or integrity. After being penetrated by the heated element 2, the tail plug 15 ruptures or leaves a puncture mark. Thus, during the process of removing the heating element 2 from the aerosol-generating article 1, the tail plug 15 can wipe the heating element 2, thereby cleaning the surface of the heating element 2.
[0059] In one embodiment, an insertion hole 151 is formed in the tail plug 15. When the heating element 2 penetrates the tail plug 15, a portion of the heating element 2 is located in the insertion hole 151. The insertion hole 151 allows the heating element 2 to penetrate the tail plug 15 more easily. The shape of the insertion hole 151 can be consistent with the shape of the heating element 2: for example, if the heating element 2 is generally sheet-shaped, the insertion hole 151 can be generally slit-shaped; for example, if the heating element 2 is generally cylindrical, the insertion hole 151 can be generally circular. The size of the insertion hole 151 can be smaller than the size of the heating element 2, allowing the tail plug 15 to contact or even squeeze the heating element 2 located in the insertion hole 151. As a result, during the process of withdrawing the heating element 2 from the aerosol-generating article 1, the tail plug 15 can wipe the heating element 2, thereby cleaning the surface of the heating element 2.
[0060] In one embodiment, the tail plug 15 comprises a flexible material, so that at least a portion of the tail plug 15 deforms when penetrated by the heating element 2, which helps to increase the force with which the tail plug 15 wipes the heating element 2, thereby helping to improve the cleaning effect of the heating element 2. It should be noted that the tail plug 15 comprising a flexible material is optional and not mandatory.
[0061] The temperature for the aerosol-forming substrate 11 to generate aerosol is often higher than 200° C. In some embodiments, the heating element 2 has a heating temperature of about 270° C. or about 375° C., or other temperatures higher than 200° C., to generate aerosol from the aerosol-forming substrate 11 .
[0062] In one embodiment, the aerosol-generating device includes a base, a heating element 2 including a heating portion and a cooling portion. The heating element 2 is fixed to the base, with the cooling portion located between the heating portion and the base. The heating portion is used to generate heat, and the heating element 2 primarily uses the heat released by the heating portion to heat the aerosol-forming substrate 11, causing the aerosol-forming substrate 11 to generate an aerosol. The cooling portion is disposed adjacent to the heating portion and is configured to be non-heatable or to have a lower heating temperature. The temperature increase of the cooling portion may be caused by absorbing heat from the heating portion. When the heating element 2 is in operation, the temperature of the cooling portion is lower than that of the heating portion.
[0063] The heating portion is configured to contact the aerosol-forming substrate 11, and at least a portion of the cooling portion is configured to contact the tail plug 15. This prevents the tail plug 15 from being burned by the high temperature of the heating portion. For example, the temperature of the cooling portion is lower than 200° C., or is within the temperature tolerance range of the tail plug 15. This ensures that the contact temperature between the cooling portion and the tail plug 15 is lower than 200° C., or is within the temperature tolerance range of the tail plug 15.
[0064] In one embodiment, a temperature reduction chamber 16 is provided between the tail plug 15 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11. When the heating element 2 contacts the aerosol-forming substrate 11, the heating element 2 penetrates the tail plug 15 and the temperature reduction chamber 16. The temperature reduction chamber 16 surrounds a portion of the heating element 2. The temperature reduction chamber 16 is configured to reduce the temperature of the surrounding heating element 2, so that the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 can be reduced to below 200°C, or to within the temperature tolerance range of the tail plug 15. This prevents the tail plug 15 from being burned by the high temperature of the heating element 2, ensuring that the tail plug 15 can function properly.
[0065] As an example, the temperature reduction chamber 16 provides a cooling space for the heating element 2 along the axial direction of the aerosol generating product 1, so that the position where the heating element 2 contacts the tail plug 15 has a lower temperature, and is thus below the tolerance temperature of the tail plug 15, for example, below 200°C.
[0066] As an example, the temperature reduction chamber 16 is a hollow cavity and is fluidically connected to the aerosol-forming substrate 11 , so that air can enter the temperature reduction chamber 16 , thereby absorbing and taking away part of the heat on the heating element 2 in the temperature reduction chamber 16 , thereby reducing the temperature of the heating element 2 .
[0067] More specifically, the tail plug 15 has pores that allow air to pass through the tail plug 15. The pore fluid connects the outside world and the temperature reduction chamber 16, and the temperature reduction chamber 16 fluid connects the pores and the aerosol-forming matrix 11. During inhalation, cold air from the outside passes through the pores and enters the temperature reduction chamber 16, and then enters the aerosol-forming matrix 11. When the cold air enters the temperature reduction chamber 16, the cold air can absorb part of the heat from the heating element 2 in the temperature reduction chamber 16 to form hot air, and then the hot air enters the aerosol-forming matrix 11, which can prevent the temperature inside the aerosol-forming matrix 11 from dropping suddenly due to inhalation; at the same time, when the cold air enters the temperature reduction chamber 16, it can accelerate the heat loss from the heating element 2 in the temperature reduction chamber 16, thereby significantly increasing the temperature gradient on the heating element 2, so that the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 is within a suitable temperature range, protecting the tail plug 15 from being burned.
[0068] Alternatively, the wrapping paper 12 is provided with an air inlet hole, and the temperature reduction chamber 16 is fluidically connected to the air inlet hole and the aerosol-forming substrate 11. During inhalation, cool air from the outside passes through the air inlet hole into the temperature reduction chamber 16, and then into the aerosol-forming substrate 11. When the cool air from the outside enters the temperature reduction chamber 16, it can reduce the temperature of the heating element 2 in the temperature reduction chamber 16. It will be appreciated that in other examples, the cool air from the outside can pass through the air inlet hole, then through the aperture in the tail plug 15, and then into the temperature reduction chamber 16, and then into the aerosol-forming substrate 11.
[0069] Because the temperature reduction chamber 16 is hollow and fluidically connects the outside world to the aerosol-forming substrate 11, tests have shown that for every 1mm increase in the distance between the heating element 2 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11 in the temperature reduction chamber 16 along the axial direction of the wrapping paper 12, the temperature drops by 20°C-30°C. In other words, for every 1mm increase in the thickness d2 of the temperature reduction chamber 16 along the axial direction of the wrapping paper 12, the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 decreases by an additional 20°C-30°C.
[0070] In one example, referring to FIG. 2 , the thickness d2 of the temperature reduction chamber 16 along the axial direction of the wrapper 12 is between 1 mm and 10 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 4 mm. The contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 is at least 20°C lower than the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11. The contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 is not higher than 200°C.
[0071] As an example, when the heating element 2 contacts the aerosol-forming substrate 11 , at least a portion of the cooling portion of the heating element 2 is located in the temperature reduction chamber 16 , and the cooling portion of the heating element 2 contacts the tail plug 15 .
[0072] In one embodiment, as shown in FIG3 , the inner surface of the wrapper 12 defines at least a portion of the boundary of the temperature reduction chamber 16. The tail plug 15 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may be spaced apart from each other and not in contact. Alternatively, as shown in FIG17 , the tail plug 15 supports the central region of the aerosol-forming substrate 11, with the temperature reduction chamber 16 formed between the side edges of the tail plug 15 and the wrapper 12.
[0073] In one embodiment, referring to Figures 1 and 2, the tail plug 15 includes a first portion 152 disposed adjacent to the aerosol-forming substrate 11 and a second portion 153 disposed opposite the first portion 152. At least a portion of the temperature reduction chamber 16 is formed in the first portion 152. Because the temperature reduction chamber 16 surrounds the heating element 2, when the heating element 2 contacts the aerosol-forming substrate 11, the first portion 152 is located around and spaced from the heating element 2. The second portion 153 is configured to wipe the heating element 2 when the heating element 2 is withdrawn from the tail plug 15.
[0074] More specifically, as an example, the second portion 153 is spaced apart from the aerosol-forming substrate 11, and the temperature reduction chamber 16 is located between the second portion 153 and the aerosol-forming substrate 11. The heating element 2 penetrates the second portion 153 and enters the temperature reduction chamber 16. The second portion 153 can form a shield to prevent the aerosol-forming substrate 11 or fragments or residues on the aerosol-forming substrate 11 from falling out of the wrapping paper 12.
[0075] The second part 153 can be solid and can be punctured by the heating element 2; or, the insertion hole 151 is opened on the second part 153, wherein the aperture of the insertion hole 151 is smaller than the inner diameter of the temperature reduction chamber 16 or smaller than the inner diameter of the first part 152.
[0076] The second part 153 may have pores that allow air circulation, and the porous fluid connects the outside world and the temperature reduction chamber 16, or the porous fluid connects the outside world and the first part 152. The outside air enters the temperature reduction chamber 16 or the pores of the first part 152 through the pores on the second part 153, and finally enters the aerosol-forming matrix 11.
[0077] The material of the second part 153 may be consistent with the material of the filter element 13, or the material of the second part 153 may include but is not limited to: wood pulp fiber, chemical fiber, cotton and linen fiber, foam material, and soft porous material.
[0078] In order to ensure that the second portion 153 can clean the heating element 2 , the thickness d3 of the second portion 153 along the axial direction of the wrapping paper 12 may be between 2 mm and 6 mm.
[0079] As an example, the first portion 152 supports the aerosol-forming substrate 11. The thickness d2 of the first portion 152 along the axial direction of the wrapper 12 may be between 1 mm and 10 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 4 mm. The first portion 152 is hollow and may be configured in an annular shape. It can fit snugly against the inner wall of the wrapper 12, thereby providing good support for the wrapper 12 outside the temperature reduction chamber 16 and preventing the wrapper 12 from bending or deforming outside the temperature reduction chamber 16.
[0080] One end of the first portion 152 facing the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may be open, such that the aerosol-forming substrate 11 may define part of the boundary of the temperature reduction chamber 16 .
[0081] 16 , the end of the first portion 152 facing the second portion 153 may have a shielding wall 1521. The shielding wall 1521 may be pierced by the heating element 2, or the insertion hole 151 may extend through the shielding wall 1521. Referring to FIG. 13 to FIG. 15 , the end of the first portion 152 facing the second portion 153 may be open.
[0082] The first portion 152 has pores that allow air circulation. The pores in the first portion 152 can fluidically connect the outside world and the temperature reduction chamber 16. The pores in the first portion 152 can fluidically connect the aerosol-forming substrate 11 and the second portion 153. The material of the first portion 152 can be the same as that of the second portion 153, but of course, they can also be different.
[0083] 4 to 10 , the first portion 152 and the second portion 153 may be integrally formed. Referring to FIG. 11 to 16 , the first portion 152 and the second portion 153 are independent of each other, and may be configured to be separable from each other, or may be bonded together to form a single unit by gluing or other methods.
[0084] Referring to Figures 7-10 and 14-16, the inner diameters of the temperature reduction chamber 16 are different at at least two locations in the axial direction of the wrapper 12. As shown in Figures 7 and 14, the temperature reduction chamber 16 can be configured as an inverted platform; as shown in Figures 8 and 15, the temperature reduction chamber 16 can be configured as an inverted trapezoid; as shown in Figures 9 and 16, the temperature reduction chamber 16 can be configured as an inverted arch, etc. In the axial direction of the wrapper 12, the inner diameter of the temperature reduction chamber 16 at the end closest to the aerosol-forming substrate 11 can be larger than the inner diameter at the end closest to the second portion 153.
[0085] 6 , the temperature reduction chamber 16 has the same inner diameter at at least two locations in the axial direction of the wrapping paper 12. As shown in FIG4-6 , the temperature reduction chamber 16 can be configured as a cylinder with a uniform inner diameter, including a circular cylinder or a square cylinder.
[0086] In one embodiment, the temperature reduction chamber 16 is filled with a heat exchange material (not shown), such as a phase change material. The heat exchange material or phase change material can absorb the temperature of the heating element 2 in the temperature reduction chamber 16, thereby reducing the temperature of the heating element 2 in the temperature reduction chamber 16, so that the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 is lower than 200° C. or within the temperature tolerance range of the tail plug 15. The phase change material refers to a material that can undergo phase change by absorbing heat.
[0087] The aerosol generating product 1 provided in the present application has a tail plug 15. The heating element 2 needs to pass through the tail plug 15 and then be inserted into the aerosol forming matrix 11. The tail plug 15 can prevent the aerosol forming matrix 11 or fragments, residues, etc. in the aerosol forming matrix 11 from falling into the aerosol generating device when the heating element 2 is pulled out of the aerosol generating product 1, which helps to improve the user experience and keep the aerosol generating device clean.
[0088] The aerosol-generating product 1 provided in the present application has a temperature reduction chamber 16, which is arranged between the aerosol-forming matrix 11 and the tail plug 15. The temperature reduction chamber 16 can reduce the temperature on the heating element 2, preventing a large amount of heat from being transferred to the position on the heating element 2 that contacts the tail plug 15, which is conducive to reducing the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15, so that the tail plug 15 is not burned by the high temperature of the heating element 2, and thus works as expected. Compared with providing a high-temperature resistant insulation sleeve in the tail plug 15 to surround the heating element 2 or providing an insulation sleeve on the heating element 2 to isolate the tail plug 15, not only is the process simpler and the production efficiency higher, but also the production cost is lower.
[0089] In the above-mentioned aerosol generating product and aerosol generating system, the heating element 2 penetrates the tail plug 15 and the temperature reduction chamber 16 when contacting the aerosol-forming matrix 11. The cooperation between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 enables the tail plug 15 to wipe the heating element 2 when the heating element 2 is pulled out of the tail plug 15, and the temperature reduction chamber 16 is located between the tail plug 15 and the aerosol-forming matrix 11, thereby preventing the residue in the aerosol-forming matrix 11 from falling, and cleaning the heating element 2, removing at least part of the aerosol-forming matrix 11 residue adhering to the heating element 2, and cooling the heating element 2 locally through the temperature reduction chamber 16, so that the contact temperature between the heating element 2 and the tail plug 15 can be reduced to within the tolerance range of the tail plug 15, preventing the tail plug 15 from being damaged by the high temperature burning of the heating element 2, and ensuring that the tail plug 15 performs its due function.
[0090] It should be noted that the specification and drawings of this application provide preferred embodiments of the present application, but are not limited to the embodiments described in this specification. Furthermore, it is possible for a person skilled in the art to make improvements or changes based on the above description, and all such improvements and changes should fall within the scope of protection of the claims attached to this application.
