Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] A SEAT BELT MONITORING SYSTEM

[0003] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0004] The invention relates to a seat belt monitoring system suitable for vehicles containing a driver's seat and at least one passenger seat.

[0005] PRIOR ART

[0006] Seat belt monitoring systems are systems that monitor the use of seat belts in vehicles to ensure that passengers have a safe journey. Traditional seat belt monitoring systems usually include a mechanical locking mechanism and a warning device.

[0007] Today's seat belt monitoring system uses a simple circuit or analogue components to detect the seat belt fastening status and generate an appropriate warning signal. These circuits usually contain simple electrical contacts to monitor whether the seat belt clip is open or closed. By processing this information on a basic logic circuit or analog circuit, it activates the warning device. The circuits used in traditional seat belt monitoring systems limit systems using more complex and advanced algorithms and do not provide flexibility of use. Traditional seat belt monitoring systems offer limited detection or analysis capabilities to monitor seat belt fastening status and evaluate certain parameters.

[0008] Seat belt monitoring systems used in vehicles produced today cannot be applied to vehicles produced in the past without a seat belt monitoring system. The installation of these systems may cause technical difficulties in some vehicles that have been produced in the past and that do not have a seat belt monitoring system, or may be incompatible with the existing seat belts and structural features of the vehicle. This is a factor that limits the widespread availability of seat belt monitoring systems.

[0009] Further, in traditional seat belt monitoring systems, it is the driver's responsibility to check for the presence of passengers inside the vehicles. However, in some cases, drivers may forget or fail to notice the passengers. In particular, heavy traffic, stressful situations or long journeys can distract drivers. In this case, an unnoticed passenger in the vehicle can be forgotten in the vehicle for a long time, which can lead to serious consequences. The passenger's life may be in danger due to an increase in the temperature inside the vehicle, a decrease in oxygen or other adverse conditions. Such situations can lead to serious injury or even death. The lack of a system that indicates and warns the presence of passengers in traditional vehicles increases such risks. Therefore, the need to develop a new solution to detect the presence of passengers and to be able to warn the driver arises.

[0010] As a result, all the above-mentioned problems have made it imperative to make an innovation in the relevant technical field.

[0038] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0039] In this detailed description, the seat belt monitoring system of the invention is explained by way of example only for a better understanding of the subject, which shall not create any limiting effect.

[0040] The invention relates to a seat belt monitoring system (10) that serves to monitor whether passengers are fastening their seat belts or not.

[0041] According to Fig. 1 , the seat belt monitor system (10) can be used in all vehicles and comprises a master control board (100), presence sensor (300) provided in passenger seats (800), belt sensor (400), and slave control boards (200). The slave control boards (200) comprise a slave microprocessor (201 ) to transmit signals and data from the sensors. The master control board (100) comprises a master microprocessor (110) that analyzes the data and generates various command signals in accordance with the algorithm within it, which will enable monitoring the presence of the passengers in the seat and whether they are fastening seat belts according to the data information received from said slave control board (200). Said algorithm is configured to analyze the data from the sensors and the slave control board (200) and enable the master microprocessor (110) to generate the necessary command signals according to the result of the analysis.

[0042] The seat belt monitoring system (10) is configured to detect information regarding whether the passengers are seated in the passenger seats (800) by means of a presence sensor (300) and information regarding whether they are fastening a seat belt by means of a belt sensor (400).

[0043] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the presence sensor (300) can be a capacitive, resistive, or open contact sensor. The capacitive, resistive, or open contact sensor placed on the lower surface of the seat determines the occupation status by detecting capacitance changes when the passenger is seated in the seat. In a possible embodiment of the invention, the belt sensor (400) is one of the sensors known in the art for detecting whether a seat belt is fastened or not.

[0044] Referring to Fig. 2, the slave control board (200) is configured to comprise a presence sensor detection circuit and a belt sensor detection circuit (230) to receive readings from the presence sensor (300) and belt sensor (400). The presence sensor (300) located on the lower surface of the passenger seat (800) and the belt sensor (400) on the seat belt are connected to the sensor detection circuits on the slave control board (200) via a cable. Thus, it is ensured that the information obtained by the sensors regarding occupation of the seat and whether the seat belt is fastened is transmitted to the slave microprocessor (201) on the slave control board (200).

[0045] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the system comprises a slave control board (200), presence sensor (300), and belt sensor (400) provided in the driver's seat (700). Thus, the information that the driver is sitting in the driver's seat (700) can be detected by the driver presence sensor (300). After the driver sits in the seat (700), the information regarding whether the seat belt is fastened is monitored by the driver belt sensor (400). The information obtained by the sensors is transmitted to the slave microprocessor (201 ).

[0046] In a possible embodiment of the invention, a slave control board (200) is configured to comprise two presence sensor detection circuits (220) and two belt sensor detection circuits (230). Herein, there are two inputs on the slave control board (200) for the connection of the presence sensor (300) to said presence sensor detection circuit (220). Likewise, there are two more inputs on the slave control board (200) for the connection of the belt sensor (400) to said two belt sensor detection circuits (230). In this way, it is ensured that the information of the two seats regarding occupation and whether the belt is fastened is monitored with a single slave control board (200). For example, by establishing input connection of the presence sensor (300) and belt sensor (400) of the first seat with the related two detection circuits of the slave control board (200) and establishing input connection of the sensors of the second seat with the other two related detection circuits, two seats located next to each other are monitored.

[0047] The slave control board (200) can comprise a wired communication interface (210) to communicate with the master control board (100). In a possible embodiment of the invention, the wired communication interface (210) is the RS-485 wired communication protocol and / or the CAN Bus communication protocol. At the same time, no one outside the vehicle can be connected to the communication protocol, therefore the system cannot be interfered with from outside.

[0048] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the slave control board (200) may comprise a power input (240) to receive power. The power supply and wired communication of the slave control board (200) can be carried out by means of a wire harness.

[0049] The slave control board (200) can comprise a wireless communication unit (21 1 ). In a possible embodiment of the invention, the wireless communication unit (211 ) can be Wifi, Bluetooth, OpenThread. When wireless communication is used to transmit the sensor data collected by the slave control board (200) to the master control board (100), the wireless communication unit (211 ) is activated and data transmission is carried out.

[0050] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the slave control board (200) may comprise a battery (250). The slave control board (200) is powered by the battery (250) when not in use with a wired power connection. When the battery (250) is not used, the power need is met by a wired connection established from the power input (240).

[0051] Referring to Fig. 3, the master control board (100) comprises several units that are connected to the master microprocessor (110). The master control board (100) comprises a memory unit (111 ) to record incoming data. Said memory unit (11 1 ) comprises at least one removable memory card. Said removable memory card can be a microSD card. The values measured by the sensors are recorded in the memory unit

[0052] (111 ). Accordingly, the removable memory card can be removed from the master control board when desired and retrospective recording review can be performed.

[0053] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the seat belt monitoring system (10) comprises a seat belt monitoring system information display (600) located in the front of the driver's seat (700), in which information regarding whether a seat belt is fastened is displayed in accordance with the data obtained by the sensors. The display can use PAL or NTSC video signal standards. The display interface (112) is configured to display all passenger seats (800) in the vehicle (500), in which the information that these seats are occupied and the information that the seat belt is fastened can be displayed indicated by a visual warning.

[0054] In another possible embodiment of the invention, the display interface (112) has shapes symbolizing all passenger seats (800) and the driver's seat (700) in the vehicle (500). Depending on the information regarding whether the passengers and the driver are seated in the seats or not, and the information regarding whether they are fastening seat belts or not, these shapes are presented visually with colors that are left to the users' preference. Furthermore, when the vehicle (500) is put into reverse gear, the rear camera of the vehicle (500) is activated, allowing the rear side to be seen on the display interface

[0055] (112).

[0056] In a possible embodiment of the invention, if the battery (250) is not used in the slave control board (200), the power need is met by establishing a wired connection from the master control board (100) to the slave control board (200).

[0057] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the master control board (100) comprises a reverse voltage protection unit (130). With its reverse voltage protection unit (130), it ensures that the master control board (100) is protected without damage in case of incorrect connection or reverse connection. This protection increases the durability of the device by minimizing damage caused by user errors or incorrect connections.

[0058] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the master control board (100) comprises a main wireless communication unit (150) to establish wireless communication with the slave control board (200). The main wireless communication unit (150) can use wireless communication methods such as Bluetooth, Wifi, OpenThread.

[0059] The master control board (100) comprises a warning element to warn the driver and passengers when necessary. In a possible embodiment of the invention, the warning element referred to is an audible warning element (160) that is signaled to operate by the master microprocessor (1 10) in accordance with the data information transmitted to the master control board (100). Said audible warning element (160) can be a simple buzzer or a speaker.

[0060] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the warning element is a light warning indicator (170). Said light warning indicator (170) can be an LED indicator. LED indicators can be found on the vehicle dashboard or control panel in the vehicle (500). Outside the vehicle (500), it can be located in the front, rear, or side parts of the vehicle.

[0061] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the system comprises a horn control circuit

[0062] (180) that enables the vehicle horn to be operated when necessary by sending a signal for operation by the master microprocessor (1 10).

[0063] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the system comprises a flasher control circuit

[0064] (181 ) that enables the vehicle flasher to operate when necessary by sending a signal for operation by the master microprocessor (110).

[0065] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the seat belt monitoring system (10) includes a speed detection circuit (182) to receive and record the speed information of the vehicle (500).

[0066] In a possible embodiment of the invention, slave control boards (200) and sensors are configured in a pad structure. Thus, the system can also be applied to existing vehicles (500). Since the sensors and the slave control boards (200) are located on a pad, they can be easily applied to the lower surfaces of the passenger seats (800).

[0067] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the system comprises at least one presence radar detection sensor provided in the passenger seats. With the presence radar detection sensor, the information regarding whether the passengers are seated in the seats is determined by using electromagnetic waves.

[0068] An example working scenario of the invention is described as follows;

[0069] The seat belt monitoring system (10) ensures that the passengers in the vehicle (500) travel safely during the journey. Before the journey, the information regarding whether the passengers are seated in the passenger seats (800) is detected by the presence sensors (300) in the seats. After the information regarding seats, the system waits for the information regarding whether the passengers are fastening seat belts. When passengers fasten seat belts, this information is detected by belt sensors (400). The information regarding whether the passengers are seated and the information regarding whether the seat belt is fastened are transmitted to the slave control board (200) by sensors. The slave microprocessor (201 ) on the slave control board (200) ensures that the collected data is transmitted to the master control board (100). In accordance with the data coming to the master control board (100), the master microprocessor (110) sends a signal to the display interface (112), allowing the driver to visually see the information regarding whether the seat belt is fastened on the seats that are occupied along with the information regarding whether the passenger seats (800) are occupied or unoccupied. For example, it can be ensured that the passenger seats (800) that are occupied and in which the seat belts are fastened can be seen in green on the seat belt monitoring system information screen (600). Thus, the driver can easily understand which seats are fastening seat belts.

[0070] Before the journey, the presence sensor (300) in the seat finally detects that the driver is seated in the driver's seat (700). After this information, the system waits for sensor data that the driver is fastening the seat belt. When the belt sensor (400) detects that the driver is fastening the seat belt, it transmits the information that it is fastened to the slave control board (200). The slave microprocessor (201 ) transmits the information that the seat is fastened from the sensor to the master control board (100). After the master control board (100) receives the information about the driver, the master microprocessor (110) sends a signal to the display interface (112) to generate an image to indicate that the driver is fastening a seat belt. For example, on the seat belt monitoring system information display (600), the shape symbolizing the driver's seat (700) can be shown in green.

[0071] Contrary to this situation, there may be situations where passengers and the driver do not fasten seat belts. The system waits for sensor information regarding whether the seat belts are fastened after the information regarding whether the passengers are seated in the passenger seats (800). When passengers are not fastening seat belts, the system cannot receive the sensor information it expects. The master microprocessor (1 10) on the master control board (100) sends a signal to a buzzer to report this situation. The buzzer generates an audible warning and provides a warning and reminder to fasten the seat belt. The information that the seat belt of the passengers is not fastened can be seen by the driver via the display interface (112). Passenger seats (800) where seat belts are not fastened can be shown in red on the seat belt monitoring system information display (600). At the same time, the LEDs provided in the passenger seats (800) light up when the passengers are not fastening seat belts, informing the relevant people and warning the passengers.

[0072] The seat belt monitoring system (10) also monitors whether the driver is fastening a seat belt or not. When the system does not receive information from the sensor that the driver is fastening a seat belt, the master control board (100) sends an operating signal, for example to a buzzer. Thus, an audible warning is given to remind the driver to fasten the seat belt. Furthermore, until the driver fastens the seat belt, the shape symbolizing the driver's seat (700) can be shown in red on the display interface (112).

[0073] In summary, the system notifies the fastening of seat belts with both visual and audible warnings and reminds passengers to comply with the rules.

[0074] The seat belt monitoring system (10) during the journey records information regarding the occupation of the passenger seats (800) via the presence sensor (300), information regarding weather the seat belts are fastened or not, and information regarding the speed of the vehicle (500). In this way, in the event of an undesired accident, the authorities will be able to see which passenger was standing and which passenger was sitting, whether they were fastening a seat belt or not, and speed information retrospectively.

[0075] The system also aims to prevent a passenger from being forgotten in the vehicle (500). When the driver turns off the ignition of the vehicle (500) and gets off, if there is an occupied seat information detected by the presence sensor (300) regarding a seat being taken in the vehicle (500), the master microprocessor (110) on the master control board (100) sends signals to the warning elements and ensures their operation. When such a situation occurs, an audible warning is given with the buzzer that there are passengers in the vehicle (500). Furthermore, the master microprocessor (110) enables the vehicle horn, LED indicators and / or flashers to be activated in order to inform the driver that passengers are inside when the driver is outside the vehicle (500). In this way, the driver is warned with both visual and audible warnings, ensuring that the passengers are noticed.

[0076] The system can be integrated into vehicles (500) during the production phase as well as applied to existing vehicles (500) today. For this, the master control board (100), slave control board (200), and sensors can be applied on a pad structure. The pad containing the control board and sensor is positioned in the relevant places in the existing vehicles (500) and the seat belt monitoring of the passengers is ensured.

[0077] The scope of protection of the invention is specified in the appended claims and cannot be limited to what is described for illustrative purposes in this detailed description. It is clear that a person skilled in the art can produce similar embodiments in the light of what is explained above, without deviating from the main theme of the invention.
