[0002] The present invention relates generally to messaging platforms, and more particularly, to a system and method that facilitates dynamic group messaging between individuals. Background Art

[0003] Messaging, chat and associated system technology, commonly referred to as online messaging or chat allows users to communicate in near-real time over a communications network (e.g., the Internet or an intranet) through the transmission of electronic messages from sender to receiver. The most common forms of online chat are direct, one-to-one chat, commonly referred to as instant messaging (or "IM"), texting, and chat rooms. A chat room allows multiple users to communicate synchronously within the confines of the chat room. A chat room is a virtual space allowing chat between users who are in the same chat room. Chat messages are generally short in order to enable other participants to respond quickly given a feeling similar to a spoken conversation, which distinguishes chatting from other text-based online communication forms such as Internet forums and email. Messaging, on the other hand, more closely resembles a text message or social messaging exchange where users get the best of both worlds: they can respond immediately, or in a few hours, or even after a few weeks.

[0004] Messaging works across channels (owned or third-party) and across devices. While live chat is typically located on a company’s web site or in an app, a company with a holistic messaging solution can be contacted in that context and on social channels too, butApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT it is all part of the same conversation. Messaging works due to the convenience for users to contact each other on the platforms they are already using, but also because it gives them more options without sacrificing context. Some current well-known messaging platforms and third-party apps include Facebook-owned Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, or international platforms like LINE or KakaoTalk. In general, chat rooms are to some extent organized around a particular type of user, interest, or topic and more users in a chat room typically results in a livelier, more interesting conversation. User interactions in chat room systems include entering a particular chat room as an active user to type in messages and / or view messages, replying to messages in a chat room, saving messages displayed during a chat session, and switching to a different chat room. When a user is interested in conversing with other users (i.e., participants) in a particular chat room, the user enters the room either as a registered user or as a guest. Typically, each participant in a particular chat room sees a message window for that chat room and participants' messages appear in the message window in the order that the messages are posted. A user can respond to a recent message by posting a reply in a response dialog box. In a chat client application, the newest messages are usually displayed either at the top or bottom of the message window. A message window will display a predetermined number of messages. When the maximum number of messages is reached, older messages are scrolled off the message window to make room for newer messages as they are posted.

[0005] Further, a client program (called a messaging client or chat client) is typically used to participate in messaging and chat communications. A user typically types text in a message or chat client and the typed text is passed, by a messaging or chat service, to the messaging or chat client of each user in the communication. Users may create different message groups comprising a number of different individuals that all wish to converse together as a group on a specific topic, activity, or shared interests. Thus, communications may be communication between, and only visible to, two users, multiple users, and / or groups of users. In today’s increasingly digital-based world, the use of group messaging and chat continues to be widespread given the major advances in the communications field and is increasingly employed for personal communications and / or business communications between different individuals and / or groups of individuals. As such, there is a continualApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT need for improving all aspects of such messaging and chat technologies to further provide communications advances to the users thereof.

Using the respective root message playback button 113, this second user may trigger a playback 121 (e.g., in accordance with step 312 as shown in FIG. 3) of the original root message 111 as received from the contact 101. In accordance with the principles of the disclosed embodiments, during the playback 121 of the original root message 111 the contact 107 may modify the original root message by choosing to attach a separate message (e.g., an audio or video file) at a specific time 122 during such original root message playback. For example, the second user may select functional icon 120 for attaching (e.g., in accordance with step 314 as shown in FIG.3) a photograph to the original root message 111 at the specific time 122 and the GUI 117 will reflect the attachment of this attached message using a first graphical attribute 123 (e.g., a symbol such colored dot) designating that the media has been attached at the specific time 122. The first graphical attribute 123 may be any type of unique designation such as color or font, to name just a few. In this initial state, the first graphical attribute 123 reflects that the associated attached media to the original root message 111 has yet to be presented to any user). In this way, the original root message is displayed in combination with the first graphical attribute on the second GUI (e.g., in accordance with step 316 as shown in FIG.3) indicating there is an attached message to such root message. As will be discussed later herein, this first graphical attribute 123 will change its designation to a second graphical attribute once the attached message has been presented (e.g., change from a red color dot to a green color dot). This notion holds for all unseen / un- accessed attached messages attached to any root message to allow a user to easily distinguish between unseen / un-accessed attached messages and seen / accessed attachedApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT messages / messages. The GUI 117 further presents a number of attached messages 124 to the original root message 111 that is displayed in a position proximate to the bubble play button 114 (e.g., below), and a drop-down menu 125, that will be further discussed herein below, that allows users to see the attached messages in a thread of timed events as such messages are created.

[0045] Turning our attention to FIG.6, the original root message 111, as modified, may be transmitted and received by the user device 600 (as configured with and executing dynamic group messaging app 700) associated with the contact 105, this third user has access to GUI 126 which displays (e.g., in accordance with step 314 of FIG. 3) the original root message 111 in combination with a respective root message playback button 113, a bubble play button 114, a share button 115, a root message creation time 116, bubbles ban / unban button 128, and a plurality of functional icons 118. The respective bubbles ban / unban button 128 is capable of toggling between a first state restricting a presentation of content from the first attached message 123 or any other attached messages and a second state triggering a presentation of the content from the first attached message 123 (e.g., playback of an audio file) or any other attached messages. Importantly, in accordance with the principles of the disclosed embodiments, the respective bubbles ban / unban button 128 will only appear through a respective GUI when there is at least one attached message to the original root message or modified original root message (i.e., a root message with one or more attached messages thereto), as the case may be. In the subject illustrative example, the contact 105 through the GUI 126 may select functional icon 127 as displayed which carries a unique message function associated with audio content such that this third user may further modify the root message 111 to attach message (e.g., an audio file). Again, the attached message appears with a second graphical attribute 129 (e.g., a red dot) signifying that the message is attached (but unseen) and appearing at the specific time of the attachment during the playback 121 of the original root message 111. As is evident from FIG. 6 and the visual provided by the second graphical attribute 129, the attached message was added at a later time during the playback 121 than the attached message 123 which appears at an earlier time. Thus, the GUI 126 further provides an efficient and quick view from which a user canApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT ascertain how many and when messages were attached to any particular one root message by other members of the message group 102.

[0046] Turning our attention to FIGs.7-10, the contact 108 associated with user device 600 and executing the dynamic messaging group app 700 will access GUI 131 that display, among other things, the original root message 111 as modified with the attached messages 121 and 129, respectively, together with a respective root message playback button 113, a bubble play button 114, a share button 115, a root message creation time 116, a bubbles ban / unban button 128, and a plurality of functional icons 118. As also shown in FIGs.7-10, the second modified root message comprises the original root message in combination with the first graphical attribute representing the first attached message attached thereto and the second graphical attribute representing the second attached message attached thereto. The respective bubbles ban / unban button 128 button is configured for and capable of toggling between a first state restricting a presentation of content from the first attached message 123 and the second attached message 129 and a second state triggering a presentation of the content from the first attached message 123 and the second attached message 129. In this way, this fourth user may select the respective root message playback button 113 and only playback the original root message 111 but not any of the attached messages thereto (as signified by the bubbles ban / unban button 128 displayed in an inactivated state 130 thereby preventing such attached message playback). Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 8, the contact 108 through selecting and activating the bubbles ban / unban button 128 will enable a playback of the original root message (e.g., the original root message 111) and all attached messages (e.g., the attached message 123 and / or 129, respectively). For example, as shown in FIG. 8, the content of the attached message 123 is displayed in message bubble 132 comprising image 133 followed thereafter by the content of the attached message 129 as displayed in message bubble 134 comprising audio 211. In an embodiment, the display of the attached message 129 follows that of the attached message 123 by a defined time interval (e.g., at least two (2) seconds). Further, in an embodiment, selection of the drop-down menu 125 will trigger the display of the attached message 123 together with the content thereof and a time 212 of the attachment thereof and attached message 129 together with the content thereof and a time 213 of the attachment thereof as shown in FIG.10.Applicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT

[0047] Turning our attention to FIG.11, the illustrative example continues with different contacts of the message group 103 adding messages to various root messages to build a chat string. More particularly, the contact 106 (i.e., the second user) has created and transmitted original root message 136 that has garnered three (3) attached messages from other members of the message group 103 shown as attached message 139, attached message 140, and attached message 141 which are all shown having a second graphical attribute signifying that each of these attached messages has been accessed and viewed by the contact 105 on their user device 600 through GUI 135. Similarly, the contact 105 through the GUI 135 on their user device 600 modifies an original root message 137 from the contact 101 by attaching message 144 which appears in a first graphical attribute signifying that this attached message 144 has not been accessed / seen. In accordance with the principles of the disclosed embodiments, when a member of the message group modifies a root message by attaching a message that displayed root message is moved to a lower portion of the respective GUI and the other displayed root messages, if any, are move up on the respective GUI. Thus, “older” root messages appear on top of the “newer” root messages. For example, as shown in FIG.11, root message 136 appears toward the top of the display through the GUI 135 with the root message 137 below it (having attached messages 142, 143, and 144) and root message 138 (having attached messages 145, 146, 147, 148, and 149) below the root message 137. Interesting, in the subject example, the root message 136 created by the contact 106 was created later than the root message 137 created by the contact 101 but is displayed in a higher priority order (i.e., above). This is due to the fact that the root message 137 was modified at a later time than the root message 136 of the contact 106. That is, the last modified root message displayed through any GUI is always displayed at the bottom of the display (i.e., the lowest priority in the displayed order of root messages).

[0048] Turning our attention to FIGs. 12-14, GUI 150 is shown on user device 600 associated with contact 214 who is a member of contact group 154 along with several other contacts. One of the other contacts of the contact group 154 (e.g., contact 153) has transmitted an original root message 215 comprises by picture 151. In this example, the contact 214 may attach a message (e.g., a text file) at a specific location / point on the picture 151 as displayed which is designated by graphical attribute 152 (e.g., a red dot) which in aApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT first state, as detailed above, signifies the attached message has yet to be accessed. Concurrently, with the addition of the message there is displayed a number of attached messages 156 to the root message 215. Continuing with this illustrative example, as shown in FIG 13, the contact 153 associated with user device 600 and GUI 157 displayed thereon will select the bubble play button 114 to see any and all messages that the contact 153 may have received to the transmission of the original root message 215. For example, as shown, the contact 153 is currently viewing attached message 165 from contact 167 associated with graphical attribute 164 and comprising picture 166. As demonstrated in FIG.13, the contact 153 has accessed certain ones of the attached files but not others given that graphical attributes 164, 163, and 159 each appear in a designated font or color (e.g., a black dot) that signifies they have not been accessed and seen by the contact 153 while graphical attributes 160, 161, 162, and 217 each appear in a different designated font or color (e.g., a white dot) signifying that the associated attached message have been accessed or seen by the contact 153. Continuing in FIG.14 and this illustrative group chat, when another root message 172 is added by the contact 153 to the chat session between the contact group 154, the original root message 215 and associated picture 151 moves up (in directed 169) towards the top of the display of GUI 168 with a single graphical attribute 171 signifying that the contact 153 has already reviewed all the attached messages the original root message 215.

[0049] Turning our attention to FIG.15, the contact 153 in this illustrative example will utilize GUI 172 that is displaying the original root message 215 and the associated picture 151 in combination with the attached messages shown by their location as attached to the picture 151 by other members of the contact group 154 as signified by the graphical attributes 173, 174, 175, and 176. In this example, the contact 153 may utilize the bubble playback button 114 in order to automatically play each of the attached message and may be viewing the attached message 177 from contact 218 comprising video 178 and may utilize bubble reverse function 216 and / or bubble advance function 217 in to advance or rewind back to any one of the attached messages represented by the graphical attributes 173, 174, 175, and 176 at any time.Applicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT

[0050] Turning our attention to FIG.16, the contact 153 in this illustrative example will utilize GUI 179 that is displaying the original root message 215 and the associated picture 151 in combination with the attached messages shown by their location as attached to the picture 151 by other members of the contact group 154 as signified by the graphical attributes 182, 184, 185, and 186. In this example, selection of the drop-down menu 125 will allow the contact 153 to view all the attached messages to the original root message 215 in a temporal order from “oldest” towards the top of the GUI 179 to “newest” at the bottom of the GUI 179. As shown, the message 187 appears below the message 181 given the respective attachment time 116 of the message 187 is after / later than that of the respective attachment time 116. This can be performed simultaneously as the attached messages are displayed through the bubble playback button 114. Further, in an embodiment, if any of the messages are selected as displayed from accessing the drop-down menu 125 then the attached messages will be played from that point onwards until all messages located after that have been played. So, if the message 180 is selected and highlighted in the display from the drop-down menu 125 this will trigger the playback of the message 187 automatically.

[0051] Turning our attention to FIGs. 17-21, a dynamic doodling functionality will be demonstrated together with embodiments involving video content and social media postings. In particular, the contact 153 from message group 155 has transmitted a root message 190 comprising video 192 and contact 219 is viewing the video 192 through GUI 188 displayed on user device 600. The contact 219 may then select dynamic doodling function icon 119 from the plurality of functional icons 118 displayed, and responsive to the selection of the dynamic doodling function icon 119, an interactive drawing tool 220 will be activated for use by the contact 219 through the GUI 188 on their user device 600. For example, a modification to the content displayed from the video 192 may be made a time 191 of the playback using the interactive drawing tool 220 such that the contact 219 may draw one or more lines 221 on the video 192 playback that will appear in the background thereof for so long as the interactive drawing tool 220 is activated. Once the interactive drawing tool 200 is deactivated (e.g., the contact 219 lifting their finger off a touchscreen display of the user device) the one or more lines drawn 221 will disappear from the display rendered through the GUI 188 but will be stored as a new message (and upon any playback reappear at theApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT time 191 of their origin in the playback of the video 192) that can subsequently be shared with the message group 155. As shown in FIG. 18, GUI 193 on the user device 600 associated with the contact 219 now displays the video 192 together with graphical attribute 194 (e.g., a red dot) at the specific time 191 that the one or more lines 221 were previously drawn and saved in a separate message. Further, as noted previously, the ban / unban button 128 now appears on through the GUI 193 given that new message has been attached to the original root message 190. Now, as presented in FIG.19, contact 222 associated with user device is displaying GUI 223 that shows root message 196 having graphical attributes 194, 197, and 198, respectively, thereby signifying that messages have been attached to the original root message 196 by one or more contacts of the contact group 155. As can be ascertained from GUI’s 223 display, contact 225 added message 224 comprising photograph 200 at a later time compared to the contact 219 (having added the attached message signified by the graphical attribute 194) and contact 199 having added message 226 given that the attached message 224 appears first during the playback of the original root message 196. Now, as shown in FIG. 20, the contact 153 has viewed through GUI 201 all attached messages 202 and 203 and their respective graphical attributes 189 and 227 so designate. Finally, as shown in FIG.21, the contact 153 may choose to share using the share button 115 any of their root messages and / or attached messages thereto through GUI 205 on their associated user device 600 by selecting on or more social media platforms (e.g., social media platform 206, social media platform 206, social media platform 207, and / or social media platform 209). The term "social media" as referred to herein implies interactive computer- mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks. The variety of stand-alone and built-in social media services currently available introduces challenges of definition; however, there are some common features such as social media are typically interactive Internet-based applications. User-generated content, such as text posts or comments, digital photos or videos, and data generated through all online interactions, is the lifeblood of social media. Users create service-specific profiles for the website or app that are designed and maintained by the social media organization. Social media facilitate the development of online social networks by connecting a user's profile with those of other individuals or groups. Users usually access social media services via web-based technologiesApplicants: Matias Rojas et al. Atty. Docket. No.: 10042-0201PCT on desktops and laptops or download services that offer social media function-ality to their mobile devices (e.g., smartphones and tablets). As users engage with these electronic services, they create highly interactive platforms through which individuals, communities, and organizations can share, co-create, discuss, participate and modify user-generated content or pre-made content posted online. Some of the most popular social media websites, with over 100 million registered users, include Facebook (and its associated Facebook Messenger), YouTube, WeChat, Instagram, Twitter (now known as X since July 2023), Tumblr, Telegram, Reddit, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and Pinterest.
