[0017] Section headings are used in the present document only to improve readability and do not limit scope of the disclosed embodiments and techniques in each section to only that section. Furthermore, some embodiments are described with reference to Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) or Sixth Generation (6G) standard for ease of understanding and the described technology may be implemented in different wireless systems that implement protocols other than the NR or 6G protocol.

[0018] The random-access (RA) procedure is a process used by terminals to request network access for data transmissions. In wireless communication networks, this procedure can be achieved in two ways: contention-based random access (CBRA) and contention free-based random access (CFRA) . Two types of random-access procedures are supported: 4-step RA procedure started with a message referred to as MSG1 and 2-step RA type started with a message referred to as MSGA.

[0019] FIG. 1 illustrates an example 4-step procedure for both CBRA and CFRA. The MSG1 of the 4-step RA type includes of a preamble on the Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) . After MSG1 transmission, the User Equipment (UE) monitors for a response from the network within a configured window. For CFRA, a dedicated preamble for MSG1  transmission is assigned by the network. Upon receiving random access response from the network, the UE ends the random-access procedure. For CBRA, upon reception of the random-access response, the UE sends MSG3 using the uplink (UL) grant scheduled in the response and monitors contention resolution. If contention resolution is not successful after MSG3 (re) transmission (s) , the UE goes back to MSG1 transmission.

[0020] The MSGA of the 2-step RA type includes a preamble on the PRACH and a payload on the Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) . FIG. 2 illustrates an example 2-step procedure for both CBRA and CFRA. After the MSGA transmission, the UE monitors for a response from the network within a configured window. For CFRA, a dedicated preamble and a PUSCH resource are configured for MSGA transmission. Upon receiving the network response, the UE ends the random-access procedure. For CBRA, if contention resolution is successful upon receiving the network response, the UE ends the random-access procedure. If fallback indication is received in a response message referred to as MSGB, the UE performs MSG3 transmission using the UL grant scheduled in the fallback indication and monitors contention resolution. If contention resolution is not successful after MSG3 (re) transmission (s) , the UE goes back to MSGA transmission.

[0021] One of the key features of the New Radio (NR) technology of Fifth Generation (5G) mobile communication systems is the support of enhanced Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) scheme. MIMO communication systems employ multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver ends to exploit the spatial domain, enabling simultaneous transmissions of multiple data streams over the same frequency band. This spatial multiplexing capability is the key factor in achieving the high data rates and improved link reliability that MIMO systems offer.

[0022] To enable the enhancement of MIMO, Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) has become increasingly common in network implementations. A HetNet (e.g., A network or a base station) can include multiple Transmission Reception Points (mTRP) . Some TRPs have higher transmit power capability and are referred as macro-TRPs. Some TRPs have lower transmit power capability and are referred as Micro TRPs. Some TRPs only receive transmission and performs no transmission to terminal devices (e.g., downlink transmissions are not supported or disabled) . Those TRPs are referred as UL-only TRPs. In some embodiments, one TRP can be a base station. In some embodiments, a base station can include multiple TRPs, deployed either centrally (e.g., multiple elements on a transmission / reception panel) or in a distributed manner. In some embodiments, multiple TRPs having same or different uplink / downlink capabilities are distributed, as a combination  of macro / micro cells, within a coverage area to provide network access to UEs. Terminal device is also referred as UE.

[0023] FIG. 3 illustrates an example HetNet scenario in accordance with one or more embodiments of the present technology. As shown in FIG. 3, in some embodiments, a UE connects to one non-coherent joint receiving (NCJR) TRP 301 and / or multiple coherent joint receiving (CJR) TRPs 303a, 303b, 303c. The NCJR and / or CJR TRPs can be TPRs that support both downlink and uplink, or TPRs that supports uplink only transmissions. For example, downlink and uplink TRP (s) can be used for cell-center data transmissions, while uplink-only TRP (s) can be used for cell-edged transmissions or load balancing. It is noted that a UL-only TRP can be a normal TRP with DL is disabled or powered off (e.g., in power saving state) . A UL-only TRP can also be a normal TRP that does not provide DL service to the UE (e.g., DL service is provided from another TRP) . In some embodiments, DL and UL TRP can be referred as macro-TRP, while UL only TRP can be referred as micro-TRP.

[0024] Currently, for MIMO, no spatial relation is indicated / configured for the uplink part of the random-access procedure (e.g., Msg1 and Msg3 for 4-step RA type, or MSGA which includes RA preamble and PUSCH payload for 2-step RA type) . This is because, for DL and UL TRPs, the spatial relation can be indicated to the UE using downlink signals such as the synchronization signal and Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) block (SSB) and / or Channel State Information (CSI) Reference Signal (CSI-RS) . For example, in current RACH procedures, SSB information is indicated in a DCI signaling by the network or selected by the UE after evaluating the channel state, such as checking the Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) values. Based on the SSB information, the UE can select a preamble associated with the SSB. In some embodiments, when the base station triggers a RACH procedure, a Random-access Occasion (RO) is indicated by using a mask based on a list of ROs corresponding to the indicated or selected SSB.

[0025] However, for UL-only TRP (s) , UE is not able to determine spatial relation from the SSB / CSI-RS for the UL transmission for PRACH procedure, as well as for subsequent UL transmissions, corresponding to UL-only TRP. This document discloses techniques that can be implemented in various embodiments to enable the UE to obtain spatial information to perform a random-access procedure with an UL-only TRP and to use the spatial information for subsequent uplink transmission with the UL-only TRP. In some embodiments, information about an uplink references signal, such as a Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) , can be used to indicate spatial information for communications with the UL-only TRP.

[0026] FIG. 4 illustrates an example scenario in accordance with one or more  embodiments of the present technology. In this example, the UE 401 established an initial access to TRP 403. The UE then performs a random-access procedure to gain access to UL-only TRP 405. To ensure proper spatial multiplexing for uplink transmission between the UE and the UL-only TRP 405, the UE can obtain spatial relation information from the TRP 403 based on information carried in SSB and / or ROs.

[0027] FIG. 5A is flowchart representation of a method for wireless communication in accordance with one or more embodiments of the present technology. The method 500 includes, at operation 510, determining, by a terminal device, a spatial domain parameter based on information about a reference signal from a first base station. The method 500 includes, at operation 520, performing, by the terminal device, a transmission to a second base station according to the spatial domain parameter.

[0028] FIG. 5B is flowchart representation of a method for wireless communication in accordance with one or more embodiments of the present technology. The method 550 includes, at operation 560, transmitting, by a first base station, information about a reference signal to a terminal device to enable the terminal device to determine a spatial domain parameter for a transmission to a second base station.

[0029] In some embodiments, the spatial domain parameter comprises at least one of a spatial relation, a spatial filter, a beam parameter, an antenna parameter, an antenna group parameter, a panel parameter, a panel group parameter, or quasi-co-location (QCL) parameter. In some embodiments, the transmission to the second base station comprises a transmission in a random-access procedure. A QCL parameter refers to a predefined set of parameters to reflect several aspects of channel measurement. For example, a QCL parameter can comprise the following types: 'typeA' : {Doppler shift, Doppler spread, average delay, delay spread} ; 'typeB' : {Doppler shift, Doppler spread} ; 'typeC' : {Doppler shift, average delay} ; 'typeD' : {Spatial Rx parameter} . typeD QCL parameters can be used to determine spatial domain parameter in some embodiments.

[0030] In some embodiments, the information about the reference signal is indicated by a RRC signaling from the first base station. In some embodiments, the information about the reference signal comprises at least one of: information about a sounding reference signal (SRS) resource, or information about a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state. In some embodiments, information about the SRS resource is based on at least one of: a codebook-based (CB) SRS resource set, non-codebook-based (NCB) SRS resource set, a beam management SRS resource set, or a set of SRS resources configured by the first base station. In some embodiments, the information about the SRS resource is determined based  on an index of an SRS resource in the set of SRS resources. In some embodiments, the information about the reference signal is indicated by information associated with a random-access procedure. In some embodiments, the random-access procedure is initiated by a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) order, and wherein the information about the reference signal is carried in a Downlink Control Information (DCI) signaling. In some embodiments, a field in the DCI signaling configured as a synchronization signal or physical broadcast channel (SS / PBCH) index is interpreted to indicate the information about the reference signal.

[0031] In some embodiments, the information about the reference signal is determined based on an index associated with the random-access procedure. In some embodiments, the index associated with the random-access procedure comprises at least one of a CFRA occasion identifier (ID) , a random-access channel occasion ID, a CFRA resource ID, a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) configuration ID, a Synchronization Signal Block (SSB) ID, or a preamble ID. In some embodiments, the reference signal is associated with the index associated with the random-access procedure.

[0032] In some embodiments, the reference signal is associated with an indicated TCI state. In some embodiments, an index associated with the random-access procedure indicates whether an indicated TCI state is applicable to determine the information about the reference signal for determining the spatial domain parameter, e.g., for a transmission related to the random-access procedure. In some embodiments, a PDCCH order initiating the random-access procedure comprises information indicating whether an indicated TCI state is applicable to determine the information about the reference signal for determining the spatial domain parameter, e.g., for a transmission related to the random-access procedure. In some embodiments, whether an indicated TCI state is applicable to determine the information about the reference signal for determining the spatial domain parameter is provided to the terminal device for at least one of a list of PRACH indices, a bandwidth part (BWP) , a serving cell, or a frequency band, e.g. for determining the spatial domain parameter for the uplink transmission related to the list of PRACH indices, the BWP, the serving cell, or the frequency band. In some embodiments, the indicated TCI state is used to determine a spatial domain parameter for a transmission to the first base station. In some embodiments, the indicated TCI state is a TCI state for only uplink transmission or for both uplink and downlink transmission.

[0033] In some embodiments, a TCI state from a set of TCI states is associated with the reference signal. In some embodiments, the TCI state comprises at least one of: an uplink  TCI state, or a TCI state for both uplink and downlink transmission. In some embodiments, the TCI state is selected from the set of TCI states based on a Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling, a Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element, or a Downlink Control Information (DCI) signaling. In some embodiments, the set TCI state is an activated TCI state set activated by a MAC CE. In some embodiments, the TCI state is indicated by a PDCCH order. In some embodiments, the TCI state is determined based on a relationship between an index associated with the random-access procedure and an entry or a codepoint of a set of TCI states.

[0034] In some embodiments, the first base station is configured to perform both uplink and downlink transmissions, and the second base station is configured to perform only uplink transmissions.

[0035] Details regarding the above techniques are further discussed in the embodiments below.

[0036] Embodiment 1

[0037] This embodiment includes several different examples of enabling the UE to determine spatial domain information based on a reference signal. The different examples are independent from each other and can be combined with each other to arrive at suitable implementations of the disclosed techniques.

[0038] Example 1

[0039] In some embodiments, the uplink transmission from the UE to the UL-only TRP includes a transmission in the random-access procedure, such as a RA preamble, MSG1, MSGA, a RA preamble in MSGA, a PUSCH payload in MSGA, and / or MSG3. The Random-Access Channel (RACH) procedure can be a CFRA procedure which is initiated by a UE, or initiated / triggered by a base station.

[0040] Example 2

[0041] The spatial domain information includes a spatial domain parameter. The spatial domain parameter can indicate a spatial relation, a spatial filter, a beam parameter, antenna parameter, an antenna group parameter, a panel parameter, a panel group parameter, or a QCL parameter.

[0042] Example 3

[0043] The reference signal can be an uplink reference signal, such as a Sounding Reference Signal. The reference signal can be a Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) state, a UL TCI state, an indicated TCI state, or an UL indicated TCI state. The reference signal can be associated with a SRS resource, a TCI state, a UL TCI state, an indicated TCI  state, or an UL indicated TCI state.

[0044] An indicated TCI state is a TCI state that is used for both downlink and uplink transmissions. An uplink indicated TCI state refers to the uplink TCI state in the indicated TCI states, e.g., the indicated TCI states can also be referred as unified TCI state, and indicated by a indication of codepoint of a set of TCI states. The use of the indicated TCI state (or unified TCI state) can be extended to enable uplink transmissions (e.g., PRACH transmissions) with an UL-only TRP.

[0045] In some embodiments, the SRS resource is configured for a target TRP, which is a TRP expected to receive the UL transmission. The target TRP can be a UL-only TRP.

[0046] Example 4

[0047] The reference signal can be determined based on a Radio Resource Control (RRC) parameter configured by the base station (e.g., for the RACH procedure initiated by a UE) . The RRC parameter can be at least one of the following: RACH-ConfigCommon, RACH-ConfigGeneric, RACH-ConfigDedicated, CFRA, CFRA occasion, CFRA-SSB-Resource, CFRA-CSIRS-Resource, CFRA-TwoStep, MsgA-PUSCH-Resource, or MsgA-PUSCH-Config.

[0048] Example 5

[0049] The reference signal can be determined based on a PDCCH order signaled by the base station (e.g., for a RACH procedure initiated / triggered by the base station) .

[0050] The reference signal can be indicated by a DCI format 1_0 for random access procedure initiated by the PDCCH order. Alternatively, or in addition, the reference signal can be indicated by a DCI format 1_0 for random access procedure initiated by the PDCCH order by using SS / PBCH index field. For example, SS / PBCH index field can be reinterpreted as a field for indicating the reference signal.

[0051] Example 6

[0052] The reference signal can be determined based on a RACH index. The RACH index can be at least one of: a CFRA occasion identifier (ID) , a RACH occasion (RO) ID, a CFRA resource ID, a PRACH configuration ID (e.g., prach-ConfigurationIndex) , an SSB ID, or a preamble ID.

[0053] In some embodiments, the RACH index is associated with the reference signal (or the reference signal is associated with the RACH index) . The association can be configured by network to UE via RRC signaling, a Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element (CE) , or a DCI signaling.

[0054] In UL-only TRP case, as discussed above, the UE cannot rely on SSB evaluation, because UL-only TRP cannot transmit SSBs. To address this issue, in some embodiments, the  RACH index can be indicated to the UE by network to enable the UE to determine RACH transmissions (e.g., the preamble) according to an indicated RACH index from the network.

[0055] Example 7

[0056] In some embodiments, the reference signal can be determined based on an indicated TCI state (also referred to as a unified TCI state) . The unified TCI state can be an indicated UL TCI state, or an indicated joint TCI state for both UL and DL transmissions. The unified TCI state can be applied for at least one of transmission of PDCCH, Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) , CSI-RS, Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) , PUSCH, and / or SRS. In some embodiments, the unified TCI state is indicated in a DCI format 1_1, or 1_2, or in a MAC CE.

[0057] In some embodiments, if the DL and UL TRP provides RACH configurations for the UL-only TRP (e.g., information of preamble, RO and / or SSB, and relation among them) in addition to the RACH configurations for itself, there is a need to distinguish whether information about the reference signal is needed (e.g., if the RACH procedure is for DL and UL TRP, the given reference signal is not needed; the reference signal is needed in the RACH procedure for UL-only TRP) . One or more solutions can be used to address this issue:

[0058] Solution 1: In some embodiments, the RACH index is associated with information that indicates whether the given reference signal for the RACH procedure corresponding the RACH index can be determined based on a unified TCI state, or whether a unified TCI state can be used for determining spatial domain parameter for an UL transmission corresponding to the RACH procedure.

[0059] For example, the RACH index can be related to SSBs. Some SSBs are associated with the information that indicates whether the given reference signal for the RACH procedure corresponding the RACH index can be determined based on a unified TCI state, or whether a unified TCI state can be used for determining spatial domain parameter for an UL transmission. If a SSB associated with such information indicating the given reference signal for the RACH procedure corresponding the RACH index can be determined based on a unified TCI state, then the corresponding RACH procedure can be for UL-only TRP, and the unified TCI state can be used to determine spatial domain parameter for an UL transmission corresponding to the RACH procedure.

[0060] Solution 2: The information that indicates whether a unified TCI state can be used for determining spatial domain parameter for an UL transmission can be provided to UE via a PDCCH order initiating a PRACH procedure. Alternatively, or in addition, the information is provided to UE via RRC signaling or MAC CE for a PRACH procedure through a RACH  index.

[0061] Solution 3: The information that indicates whether a unified TCI state can be used for determining spatial domain parameter for an UL transmission is provided to UE for a list of PRACH indices (e.g., part or all PRACH indices) , in a BWP, or in a serving cell, or in a frequency band. The information can be provided to the UE via RRC signaling or MAC CE.

[0062] The unified UL TCI state can be used to determine spatial domain parameter for UL transmission for UL only TRP. The unified TCI state can be extended to macro-TRPs that have downlink, and / or SSB. That is, unified UL TCI state can also be used for determining spatial domain parameter for UL transmission for a macro-TRP. The unified TCI state can be used, alternatively or in addition to SSB or other downlink info, to determine spatial domain parameter for UL transmission to a macro-TRP. Although downlink info or SSB for the macro-TRP may exist for a macro-TRP, the unified TCI state can be used to determine spatial domain parameter for UL transmission for a macro-TRP, instead of using a DL RS, or an SSB. Considering unified TCI state can be applied to at least one of transmission of PDCCH, PDSCH, CSI-RS, PUCCH, PUSCH, or SRS, and can be applied to UL transmission of PRACH for UL only TRP, it is possible to use unified TCI state for UL transmission of PRACH for macro-TRPs to determine spatial domain parameter. This can provide a unified solution for macro-TRPs and micro-TRPs for PRACH procedure, thereby simplifying the implementation of base station and / or UE.

[0063] Example 8

[0064] In legacy RACH procedures, the SSB index, the preamble index, and / or the RO are determined. For UL-only TRP cases, the SSB index can be determined in order to determine RO index and preamble index, but a spatial domain parameter for an UL transmission can be determined according to the given reference signal, rather than according to the determined SSB index. If the given reference signal is determined for the UL transmission, it should be specified that the given reference signal is used to determine spatial domain parameter for the UL transmission.

[0065] For example, referring back to FIG. 4, an association between SSB and RO can be configured for the UE. In some embodiments, there also exists an association between SSB and preamble (s) . Some SSB, e.g., SSB 1, can be configured as for an UL-only TRP. If SSB 1 is determined for a PRACH procedure, a given reference signal is needed for determining spatial domain parameter for the UL transmission, such as MSG1, MSG3, and / or MSGA. The given reference signal can be indicated along with the SSB or the RO. The given reference signal can also be determined based on unified TCI state.

[0066] It is noted that the association between the SSB and RO one-to-one or multiple-to-one or multiple, e.g., K-to-1, 1-to-1, or 1-to-M, where K or M is an integer greater than 1.

[0067] Note: RO can also be PO (PUSCH in MSGA Occasion) .

[0068] Embodiment 2

[0069] This embodiment is related to the use of a TCI state to indicate a given reference signal for determining the spatial relation information.

[0070] In some embodiments, a TCI state from a set of TCI states is indicated to correspond to the reference signal. If the reference signal is determined by a TCI state, a larger number of TCI states, in addition to the indicated TCI state, can be used to provide flexibility for spatial domain parameter determination for UL transmission for RACH procedure.

[0071] In some embodiments, the TCI state can be indicated to a UE from a set of activated TCI states, e.g., activated by a MAC CE, or a particular set of TCI states indicated by MAC CE or RRC signaling from a configured set of TCI states.

[0072] In some embodiments, the TCI state can be indicated to a UE via a PDCCH order. In some embodiments, an entry / codepoint in the set of TCI states (e.g., a set of activated TCI states) can be indicated via PDCCH order, which initiates a RACH procedure.

[0073] In some embodiments, the TCI state can be determined by a UE according to association between the PRACH index and an entry / codepoint in the set of TCI states. Alternatively, or in addition, the TCI state can be indicated to a UE via association between the PRACH index and an entry / codepoint in the set of TCI states. The set of TCI states can be a set of activated TCI states. In some embodiments, the association can be provided to the UE by RRC signaling or MAC CE. The entry / codepoint in the set of TCI states includes at least one of: an indicated TCI state for both DL and UL transmissions, or a UL TCI state. When more than one TCI state are indicated, each TCI state corresponds to a TRP, e.g., a macro TRP, or a micro TRP.

[0074] In some embodiments, the entry / codepoint in the set of TCI states corresponds to a TRP. In some embodiments, the first or the second TCI state is determined by an indication or according to TRP relation.

[0075] Embodiment 3

[0076] This embodiment is related to a Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) resource indicating the reference signal for determining the spatial relation information.

[0077] In some embodiments, an SRS resource from an SRS resource set indicates the given reference signal for determining the spatial relation information. In some embodiments,  the SRS resource can be indicated from same set of codebook or non-codebook SRS resource set for PUSCH. In some embodiments, for NCB, only one SRS resource is indicated, and the indicated SRS resource is used to determine the reference signal for determining the spatial relation information. Codebook SRS resource set and non-codebook SRS resource set refer to SRS resource set with usage of “codebook” and SRS resource set with usage of “non-codebook” respectively.

[0078] In some embodiments, the SRS resource can be indicated from a set of SRS resources for beam management. In some embodiments, the SRS resource can be indicated from a set of SRS resources based on an SRS resource set ID configured by RRC

[0079] In some embodiments, a set of SRS resources can be indicated by MAC CE or RRC signaling from a configured set of SRS resources. The SRS resource can be indicated to a UE via PDCCH order, RRC signaling or MAC CE from the set of SRS resources. The SRS resource can also be indicated to a UE via an SRS resource set ID and SRS resources index in the SRS resource set.

[0080] FIG. 6 shows an example of a wireless communication system 600 where techniques in accordance with one or more embodiments of the present technology can be applied. A wireless communication system 600 can include one or more base stations (BSs) 605a, 605b, one or more wireless devices (or UEs) 610a, 610b, 610c, 610d, and a core network 625. A base station 605a, 605b can provide wireless service to user devices 610a, 610b, 610c and 610d in one or more wireless sectors. In some implementations, a base station 605a, 605b includes directional antennas to produce two or more directional beams to provide wireless coverage in different sectors. The core network 625 can communicate with one or more base stations 605a, 605b. The core network 625 provides connectivity with other wireless communication systems and wired communication systems. The core network may include one or more service subscription databases to store information related to the subscribed user devices 610a, 610b, 610c, and 610d. A first base station 605a can provide wireless service based on a first radio access technology, whereas a second base station 605b can provide wireless service based on a second radio access technology. The base stations 605a and 605b may be co-located or may be separately installed in the field according to the deployment scenario. The user devices 610a, 610b, 610c, and 610d can support multiple different radio access technologies. The techniques and embodiments described in the present document may be implemented by the base stations of wireless devices described in the present document.

[0082] The disclosed and other embodiments, modules and the functional operations described in this document can be implemented in digital electronic circuitry, or in computer software, firmware, or hardware, including the structures disclosed in this document and their structural equivalents, or in combinations of one or more of them. The disclosed and other embodiments can be implemented as one or more computer program products, i.e., one or more modules of computer program instructions encoded on a computer readable medium for execution by, or to control the operation of, data processing apparatus. The computer readable medium can be a machine-readable storage device, a machine-readable storage substrate, a memory device, a composition of matter effecting a machine-readable propagated signal, or a combination of one or more of them. The term “data processing apparatus” encompasses all apparatus, devices, and machines for processing data, including by way of example a programmable processor, a computer, or multiple processors or computers. The apparatus can include, in addition to hardware, code that creates an execution environment for the computer program in question, e.g., code that constitutes processor firmware, a protocol stack, a database management system, an operating system, or a combination of one or more of them. A propagated signal is an artificially generated signal, e.g., a machine-generated electrical, optical, or electromagnetic signal, that is generated to encode information for transmission to suitable receiver apparatus.

[0083] A computer program (also known as a program, software, software application, script, or code) can be written in any form of programming language, including compiled or interpreted languages, and it can be deployed in any form, including as a stand-alone program  or as a module, component, subroutine, or other unit suitable for use in a computing environment. A computer program does not necessarily correspond to a file in a file system. A program can be stored in a portion of a file that holds other programs or data (e.g., one or more scripts stored in a markup language document) , in a single file dedicated to the program in question, or in multiple coordinated files (e.g., files that store one or more modules, sub programs, or portions of code) . A computer program can be deployed to be executed on one computer or on multiple computers that are located at one site or distributed across multiple sites and interconnected by a communication network.

[0084] The processes and logic flows described in this document can be performed by one or more programmable processors executing one or more computer programs to perform functions by operating on input data and generating output. The processes and logic flows can also be performed by, and apparatus can also be implemented as, special purpose logic circuitry, e.g., an FPGA (field programmable gate array) or an ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) . Processors suitable for the execution of a computer program include, by way of example, both general and special purpose microprocessors, and any one or more processors of any kind of digital computer. Generally, a processor will receive instructions and data from a read only memory or a random-access memory or both. The essential elements of a computer are a processor for performing instructions and one or more memory devices for storing instructions and data. Generally, a computer will also include, or be operatively coupled to receive data from or transfer data to, or both, one or more mass storage devices for storing data, e.g., magnetic, magneto optical disks, or optical disks. However, a computer need not have such devices. Computer readable media suitable for storing computer program instructions and data include all forms of non-volatile memory, media and memory devices, including by way of example semiconductor memory devices, e.g., EPROM, EEPROM, and flash memory devices; magnetic disks, e.g., internal hard disks or removable disks; magneto optical disks; and CD ROM and DVD-ROM disks. The processor and the memory can be supplemented by, or incorporated in, special purpose logic circuitry.

[0085] While this patent document contains many specifics, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of any invention or of what may be claimed, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments of particular inventions. Certain features that are described in this patent document in the context of separate embodiments can also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment can also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable subcombination.  Moreover, although features may be described above as acting in certain combinations and even initially claimed as such, one or more features from a claimed combination can in some cases be excised from the combination, and the claimed combination may be directed to a subcombination or variation of a subcombination.

[0086] Similarly, while operations are depicted in the drawings in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. Moreover, the separation of various system components in the embodiments described in this patent document should not be understood as requiring such separation in all embodiments.
