Abstract
Description
Method for providing responsive banners and device for doing so
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a method for providing a responsive banner and a device for performing the same, and more particularly, to a method for identifying a menu of interest to a user based on the user's activity and providing a banner indicating information related to a store selling the menu of interest and a device for performing the same.
[0002] The banner area of a delivery ordering app displays banners that provide information on recommended stores and discounts at specific stores. Users can use the banners to identify recommended stores or stores where discount coupons are available, and ultimately click on the banner to place an order. In other words, the banner area is a crucial location to capture user attention. The purpose of these banners is to drive more clicks and thus more orders. However, out of 1,000 banner impressions, only 29 customers clicked on the banner, and only 8 customers completed an order. This suggests that the content displayed on the banner is insufficient to capture user attention. Therefore, improvements are needed to ensure that the banner displays information that meets current customer needs, thereby increasing the number of orders made through the banner.
[0003] The technical problem to be solved through the embodiments of the present disclosure is to provide a method for identifying a user's current menu of interest based on the user's recent activities, searching for stores selling the menu of interest, and providing a banner displaying information related to the searched stores.
[0004] In addition, a technical problem to be solved through embodiments of the present disclosure is to provide a method for dynamically generating a banner based on a user's interest menu instead of displaying a uniform banner to all users, in order to increase the final number of orders of a delivery order application through a banner.
[0005] A method for providing a responsive banner according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be performed by a computing device and may include: analyzing a user's activity for a first time period to obtain a menu of interest of the user; searching for a store selling the obtained menu of interest if the user does not place an order within the first time period; selecting a recommended store among the searched stores by considering the user's location, the user's order history, business hours and rating of the store; generating a banner including information about the selected recommended store; and displaying the generated banner to the user.
[0006] In one embodiment, the user's activities may include browsing a menu, selecting a food category, checking store details, and adding or deleting items from a shopping cart.
[0007] In one embodiment, the step of selecting the recommended store may include the step of determining whether the searched store is available for ordering at the user's location, the step of determining whether the searched store is currently open, the step of checking whether the user has ordered from the searched store, and the step of checking whether the user has given a rating below a predetermined threshold score to the searched store.
[0008] In one embodiment, the step of selecting the recommended store may further include the step of selecting the store with the highest average rating among the searched stores as the recommended store.
[0009] In one embodiment, the information about the selected recommended store may include information about discount coupons provided by the selected recommended store, information about events provided by the selected recommended store, and information about the representative menu of the selected recommended store.

[0011] In one embodiment, the step of determining whether the set policy matches the user's activity includes the step of determining whether a trigger event among the set policies matches the user's activity, wherein the trigger event includes a menu search event or a category click event as an event type, and is characterized in that it is unstructured data including a search keyword of a regular expression when the trigger event is a menu search event, and including a category name of a regular expression when the trigger event is a category click event.
[0012] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a computing device includes a processor and a memory storing instructions, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform the following actions: analyzing a user's activity for a first time period to obtain a menu of interest of the user; searching for a store selling the obtained menu of interest if the user has not placed an order within the first time period; selecting a recommended store among the searched stores by considering the user's location, the user's order history, business hours and ratings of the store; generating a banner including information about the selected recommended store; and displaying the generated banner to the user.
[0013] In one embodiment, the user's activities may include browsing a menu, selecting a food category, checking store details, and adding or deleting items from a shopping cart.
[0014] In one embodiment, the operation of selecting the recommended store may include an operation of determining whether the searched store is available for ordering at the user's location, an operation of determining whether the searched store is currently open, an operation of checking whether the user has ordered from the searched store, and an operation of checking whether the user has given a rating below a predetermined threshold score to the searched store.
[0015] In one embodiment, the action of selecting the recommended store may further include an action of selecting the store with the highest average rating among the searched stores as the recommended store.
[0016] In one embodiment, the information about the selected recommended store may include information about discount coupons provided by the selected recommended store, information about events provided by the selected recommended store, and information about the representative menu of the selected recommended store.
[0017] In one embodiment, the operation of generating the banner may include an operation of setting policies related to the banner, an operation of determining whether the set policy matches the user's activity, and an operation of generating the banner if the set policy matches the user's activity.
[0018] In one embodiment, the operation of determining whether the set policy matches the user's activity includes an operation of determining whether a trigger event among the set policies matches the user's activity, wherein the trigger event includes a menu search event or a category click event as an event type, and is characterized in that the trigger event is unstructured data including a search keyword of a regular expression when the trigger event is a menu search event, and including a category name of a regular expression when the trigger event is a category click event.
[0019] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a computing device may include a user activity collection server that collects user activities from a user terminal for a first time period, a banner setting server that sets a policy related to a banner, and a banner providing server that generates a banner based on the user activities received from the user activity collection server and the set policy received from the banner setting server, and displays the generated banner on the user terminal.
[0020] In one embodiment, the banner setting server stores the set policy in a banner policy storage, and the banner providing server loads the set policy from the banner policy storage, stores the generated banner in the banner policy storage, and queries the banner policy storage to display the generated banner on the user terminal.
[0021] In one embodiment, the banner providing server is characterized in that it checks whether the set policy matches the user's activity, and if the policies match the user's activity, it generates the banner.
[0022] In one embodiment, determining whether the set policy matches the user's activity includes determining whether a trigger event among the set policies matches the user's activity, wherein the trigger event includes a menu search event or a category click event as an event type, and is characterized in that the trigger event is unstructured data including a search keyword of a regular expression when the trigger event is a menu search event, and including a category name of a regular expression when the trigger event is a category click event.

[0036] FIG. 1 is a block diagram illustrating an exemplary configuration of a system (10) for providing a responsive banner according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For convenience of explanation, the system (10) for providing a responsive banner will be referred to as a responsive banner system (10). Referring to FIG. 1, the responsive banner system (10) may include a user terminal (100) and a service server (200).
[0037] The user terminal (100) may be a computing device used by a user to receive a food delivery order service from the service server (200). As exemplarily illustrated in FIG. 1, the user terminal (100) may include a smartphone (100a), a desktop (100b), a laptop (100c), etc. For example, if the user terminal (100) is a smartphone (100a), the user may receive the service of the service server (200) through an application on the smartphone (100a). However, the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and the user terminal (100) may be implemented as any device. Hereinafter, when referring to any user terminal (e.g., 100a) or collectively referring to all user terminals (e.g., 100a to 100c), they will all be referred to by the reference numeral 100. The user terminal (100) may also be referred to as a ‘client terminal’, a ‘buyer / purchaser terminal’, a ‘consumer terminal’, etc.
[0038] The service server (200) may be a computing device / system (platform) that provides a food delivery ordering service to a user. For example, the service server (200) may be a computing device / system that provides an online food delivery ordering site to a user terminal (100). The service server (200) may provide a delivery ordering service for registered food stores and may provide a page containing detailed information about the stores. In addition, the service server (200) may display banners related to the food stores registered on the user terminal (100). The banners may include discount information for the food stores registered on the service server (200), free delivery information, recommended store information for a specific menu, information on discount stores around the user's location, information on benefits provided to the user (e.g., first-order benefits), etc. The service server (200) may display the banners on the user terminal (100) and induce the user to click on the banners to place an order.
[0039] In particular, the service server (200) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can identify a user's menu of interest based on the user's recent activity over a certain period of time (e.g., activity over the past 10 minutes). If the user has not placed an order for a certain period of time, the service server (200) can search for stores selling the identified menu of interest, select a recommended store, generate a banner containing information about the selected recommended store, and display it to the user. For example, the user's recent activity may include a series of activities, such as searching for a menu, clicking on a category, checking detailed information about a store, and adding or deleting a menu to a shopping cart, over a certain period of time.
[0040] Assume a user has searched for "Sundae Gukbap" (Korean Sundae Gukbap) in the past 10 minutes and viewed the menu on a Sundae Gukbap restaurant page. At this point, it can be determined that the user's favorite menu item is Sundae Gukbap. In this case, among banners related to a hamburger restaurant and a Sundae Gukbap restaurant, the user is more likely to click on the banner related to the Sundae Gukbap restaurant. Therefore, if banners related to the restaurant selling the user's favorite menu item are automatically displayed, the user's final order will likely be made through a banner click. In other words, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the banner related to the most appropriate restaurant will be automatically displayed based on the user's activity. Such banners that are dynamically generated based on user activity are referred to as "reactive banners."
[0041] Specifically, the service server (200) searches for stores selling menus of interest identified through the user's activity, and then selects a recommended store from among the searched stores, considering the user's location, order history, business hours, and ratings. To be selected as a recommended store, the store must first be available for delivery from the user's location and must be currently open. Furthermore, the higher the store's rating and the more orders the user has made in the past, the higher the likelihood of it being selected as a recommended store. However, even if the user has a history of ordering from a store, if the user has given the store a low rating, the store may be excluded from selection as a recommended store.
[0042] When a recommended store is selected, a banner containing information about the recommended store can be generated. For example, information about the recommended store may include information about current discount coupons, events, and the store's signature menu. If the recommended store is currently offering discount coupons or events, a banner displaying that information will be generated first. If no discount coupons or events are currently available, a banner displaying the store's signature menu will be generated. Alternatively, if the user has previously ordered from the store, the information about the recommended store may include information about the previously ordered menu.
[0043] In addition, two or more recommended stores may be selected from stores selling the user's menu of interest, in which case a banner may be generated for each of the selected recommended stores. Furthermore, two or more types of menus of interest to the user may also be identified, in which case a recommended store may be selected for each of the identified menus of interest, and a banner may be generated for each of the selected recommended stores. The user-customized responsive banners generated in this manner may be displayed independently of the embodiments of the present disclosure, along with other banners previously displayed (i.e., banners that are displayed regardless of the user's activity, and are not responsive banners). Each banner may be displayed sequentially for a set period of time, or may be displayed alternately through the user's scroll operation. Referring now to FIG. 2, an exemplary configuration and operation of the service server (200) will be described.
[0044] FIG. 2 is a block diagram illustrating an exemplary configuration of a service server (200) of FIG. 1. Referring to FIG. 2, the service server (200) may include a user activity collection server (210), a banner setting server (220), a banner provision server (230), and a banner policy storage (240). Meanwhile, the components (modules) illustrated in FIG. 2 represent functionally distinct functional elements, and it should be noted that at least one component (module) may be implemented in an integrated form in an actual physical environment. That is, the components (servers) illustrated in FIG. 2 may be implemented as a single physical server, or may be implemented by dividing them into multiple servers.
[0045] The service server (200) may be implemented by at least one computing device. For example, all functions of the service server (200) may be implemented by a single computing device, or a first function of the service server (200) may be implemented by a first computing device, and a second function may be implemented by a second computing device. Alternatively, specific functions of the service server (200) may be implemented by multiple computing devices. For example, the computing devices may include any type of device equipped with a computing means and a communication means.
[0046] The user activity collection server (210) can collect user activities from applications running on the user terminal (100). As described with reference to FIG. 1, user activities may include a series of activities, such as the user searching for a menu, clicking a category, checking detailed information about a store, and adding or deleting a menu item to a shopping cart. The user activity collection server (210) can transmit the collected user activities to the banner provision server (230).
[0047] The banner setting server (220) can set policies related to the banner. For example, policies related to the banner may include the banner ID, name, type, banner start time, end time, trigger event, trigger condition, purpose, image, etc. Among these, the trigger event may be unstructured data that specifically includes the user's activity that causes the banner to be displayed (e.g., entering a search term including "sundae" or clicking on the Korean food category), and the trigger condition may be unstructured data that includes the condition that causes the banner to be displayed (e.g., not placing an order for a certain period of time). The purpose may be data indicating the purpose of the content displayed by the banner (e.g., discount information, menu information). Policies set in this way can form a single responsive banner. The policies may be stored in the banner policy storage (240) and loaded from the banner provision server (230) through the banner policy storage (240).
[0048] The banner provision server (230) can display a banner on an application of a user terminal (100) based on the user activity received from the user activity collection server (210) and the banner policy loaded from the banner policy storage (240) via the banner setting server (220). To this end, the banner provision server (230) can include a banner policy local cache (231), a banner match module (232), and a banner display module (233). First, the banner provision server (230) can load the policies stored in the banner policy storage (240) into the banner policy local cache (231).
[0049] And the banner match module (232) can check whether the banner policy loaded into the banner policy local cache (231) matches the user activity received from the user activity collection server (210) to finally generate a responsive banner. For example, whether the banner policy matches the user activity can be checked by checking whether the trigger event in the banner policy matches the user activity and whether the user activity satisfies the trigger condition. The responsive banner generated when the policy and the user activity match can likewise be stored in the banner policy storage (240). The banner display module (233) can query the banner policy storage (240) to retrieve the generated responsive banner and finally display it on the application running on the user terminal (100).
[0050] The banner policy storage (240) is a database configured to store policies set by the banner setting server (220) or responsive banners ultimately generated by the banner matching module (232). For example, the banner policy storage (240) may be implemented using Redis.
[0051] That is, according to the embodiment of the present disclosure, the operator of the service server (200) only needs to set a policy related to banner creation through the banner setting server (220) and store it in the banner policy storage (240), and thus, the collection of user activities and the creation of responsive banners based on the collected user activities can all be performed automatically. Furthermore, since the banners created in this manner can include personalized content for each user, the frequency of users clicking on banners and the frequency of orders placed through the banners can increase.
[0052] Returning to FIG. 1, the user terminal (100) can also perform various operations / functions to provide the aforementioned food delivery ordering service. For example, the user terminal (100) can, in conjunction with the service server (200), identify a menu of interest to the user based on the user's recent activities over a certain period of time (e.g., activities over the past 10 minutes), search for stores selling the identified menu of interest, select a recommended store, and display a banner containing information about the selected recommended store to the user.
[0053] As illustrated in FIG. 1, a user terminal (100) and a service server (200) can communicate via a network. For example, the network can be implemented as any type of wired / wireless network, such as a local area network (LAN), a wide area network (WAN), a mobile radio communication network, or Wibro (Wireless Broadband Internet).
[0054] FIG. 3 exemplarily illustrates a user interface displayed on a user terminal (100) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The screen of the user terminal (100) shown in FIG. 3 may include a search box area (110), a category selection area (120), a recommended store area (130), and a banner area (140). The search box area (110) may include a search box in which a user may input a menu or store that he or she wishes to search for. The category selection area (120) may indicate categories of menus that the user wishes to order (e.g., Korean food, chicken, snacks, pork cutlet, pig's feet / bossam, steamed / tang, grilled food, pizza, etc.). The recommended store area (130) may display recommended stores and representative menus displayed according to a series of algorithms, as well as information regarding delivery.
[0055] The banner area (140) can display multiple banners, including responsive banners generated according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As described with reference to FIG. 1 , the multiple banners can include discount information for food stores registered with the service server (200), free delivery information, recommended store information for a specific menu, information on discount stores around the user's location, and information on benefits provided to the user (e.g., first-order benefits). For example, the banner (141) shown in FIG. 4 displays information on a 3,000 won discount coupon for a specific store. Meanwhile, the multiple banners can be displayed sequentially over time, and the previously displayed banner or the next banner can be displayed depending on the user's horizontal scrolling motion.
[0056] FIG. 4 exemplarily illustrates changes after a user performs a horizontal scroll operation on the user interface of FIG. 3. When a user performs a horizontal scroll operation on the banner area (140) of FIG. 3, a banner (142) different from the banner (141) may be displayed, as in the banner area (140) of FIG. 4. The banner (142) displays discount coupon information for a store different from the banner (141). The banners (141, 142) shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 may be responsive banners generated according to the embodiments of the present disclosure described above. When a user performs a horizontal scroll operation and sees a responsive banner displayed based on the user's activity, the frequency of clicking on the banner and ordering a menu of interest that he or she was searching for at the store may increase.
[0057] FIG. 5 is a flowchart exemplarily illustrating a method for providing a responsive banner according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For reference, FIG. 2 illustrates steps / operations of a method for providing a responsive banner performed on a user terminal (100). Therefore, in the following descriptions, if the subject of a specific step / operation is omitted, it can be understood that it is performed on the user terminal (100). However, in an actual environment, some functions / operations of the user terminal (100) may be implemented on the service server (200) side, and some functions / operations of the service server (200) may be implemented on the user terminal (100) side. In other words, the subject of performing a specific step / operation may vary depending on the implementation method. The following description will be made with reference to FIG. 1 to FIG. 4 along with FIG. 5.
[0058] In step S100, the user's activities during a first hour may be analyzed to determine the user's menu of interest. The first hour may be an arbitrarily set period of time (e.g., 10 minutes). The user's activities may include a series of activities such as searching for a menu, selecting a food category, checking detailed information about a store, and adding or deleting items to a shopping cart. For example, if the user searches for "Sundae Gukbap" during the first hour, selects the Korean food category to search for a store selling "Sundae Gukbap" and checks detailed information about the store, or adds "Sundae Gukbap" to the shopping cart, "Sundae Gukbap" may be identified as a menu of interest. Then, in step S200, it may be determined whether the user placed an order within the first hour. If the user placed an order (YES), the method may be terminated, as there is no longer any reason to display a responsive banner.
[0059] On the other hand, if the user's menu of interest has been acquired and the user has not ordered the menu within the first hour (NO), stores selling the acquired menu of interest may be searched in step S300. For example, assuming that Sundae Gukbap is selected as the menu of interest in step S100, multiple stores selling Sundae Gukbap may be searched.
[0060] In step S400, a recommended store may be selected from the searched stores based on the user's location, the user's order history, the store's business hours, and the store's rating. Specifically, step S400 may include steps for determining whether the searched store is available for ordering from the user's location, determining whether the store is currently open, checking whether the user has placed an order, and checking whether the user has given a rating below a predetermined threshold. In other words, the store to be displayed in the responsive banner must be available for ordering from the user's location and be currently open. Among stores that meet these conditions, stores with which the user has previously placed multiple orders may be preferentially selected as recommended stores. On the other hand, stores with a rating below a predetermined threshold (e.g., a rating below 3 stars) may be excluded from the selection of recommended stores. Finally, among stores with the same conditions, a store with a higher average rating may be selected as the recommended store.
[0061] In step S500, a banner containing information about the selected recommended store may be generated. For example, information about the selected recommended store may include information about discount coupons offered by the recommended store, information about the recommended store's signature menu, and information about free delivery. If a discount coupon is available, a banner containing information about the discount coupon may be generated first. Otherwise, a banner containing information about the signature menu may be generated. In step S600, the generated banner may be displayed to the user.
[0062] As described with reference to FIG. 1, the number of interest menus acquired in step S100 and the number of recommended stores selected in step S400 may be two or more. If there are two or more types of interest menus, steps S300 to S500 may be performed for each of the acquired interest menus. That is, recommended stores may be selected for each of the two or more interest menus, and a banner may be generated for each of the selected recommended stores. In this way, when multiple banners are generated, multiple responsive banners will be displayed in the banner display area (140).
[0063] FIG. 6 is a flowchart specifically illustrating the banner generation step (S500) of FIG. 6 . Referring to FIG. 6 , in step S501, user activities collected from a user terminal (100) may be transmitted from a user activity collection server (210) to a banner provision server (230). In step S502, a banner setting server (220) may set policies related to the banner. Thereafter, in step S503, the set policies may be stored in a banner policy storage (240).
[0064] In step S504, the banner policy local cache (231) of the banner provision server (230) can load the set policy from the banner policy storage (240). In step S505, the banner match module (232) of the banner provision server (230) can check whether the loaded policy matches the user activity. For example, whether the loaded policy matches the user activity can be determined by whether a trigger event in the policy matches the user activity and whether a trigger condition is satisfied. If the loaded policy matches the user activity (YES), in step S506, the banner match module (232) can generate a banner, and in step S507, the generated banner can be stored in the banner policy storage (240). Finally, in step S508, a banner can be loaded from the banner policy storage (240) in response to a query from the banner provision server (230).
[0065] FIG. 7 exemplarily illustrates a policy for configuring a responsive banner according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As described above, the policy illustrated in FIG. 7 can be configured in the banner configuration server (220) of the service server (200). Referring to FIG. 7 , the basic policy (20) includes a banner ID, name, policy type (policyType), start time (startTime), end time (endTime), whether enabled, segment type (segmentType), and segment ID (segmentId).
[0066] First, reviewing the basic policy (20), the banner ID and name are intended to differentiate it from other banners, and the policy type is set to reactive. The start and end times indicate the start and end times of storage in the banner policy storage (240), and the activation status indicates whether the banner is activated. A segment is a subset of a specific user from the entire user set, and is indicated by its type (e.g., FEATURE_PLATFORM) and ID. For example, users who have ordered zero times in the past 28 days can be classified into a specific segment, and banners can be set separately to be displayed more frequently to them.
[0067] After that, reactive policy characteristics (reactivePolicySpec) (30), banner characteristics (bannerSpec) (40), and filter characteristics (filterSpec) (50) are shown as additional policies. First, if we examine reactive policy characteristics (30), trigger events (triggerEvents) and trigger conditions (triggerConditions) are shown. As explained with reference to Fig. 1, trigger events represent user actions for generating banners. For example, in the case shown in Fig. 7, trigger events represent a menu search (SEARCH_FOOD) event in which a keyword (keywordRegex) of a regular expression such as ".*Sundae.*" is entered, or a category click (CLICK_CATEGORY) event in which a category of a regular expression such as ".*Korean food.*" is clicked. A trigger condition indicates a condition that must be met before a banner can be generated, independent of user activity. For example, in the case shown in Fig. 7, the trigger condition is that there must be no order (reverse: true) for 10 minutes (timeRangeSecs of 600 seconds) and both must be satisfied (AND).
[0068] Next, examining the banner characteristics (40), the banner's purpose (bannerPurpose), image (image), and landing scheme (landingSchema) are shown. Referring to Figure 7, the banner's purpose is indicated as promotion (PROMOTION), which corresponds to the purpose of promoting an event such as a discount event or free delivery event. Alternatively, the banner's purpose may be informational (INFORMATIVE), introducing information about the main menu. The image represents the banner's image, and the landing scheme may indicate a link to the page the user reaches when clicking the banner (e.g., a link containing the store ID (storeId)).
[0069] Finally, examining the filter properties (50), time filters (timeFilters), region ID filters (regionIdFilters), and A / B test filters (abTestFilters) are shown. The time filters indicate the date and time at which the banner will be displayed, the region ID filters indicate the region in which the banner will be displayed, and the A / B test filters indicate the options and IDs for which the A / B test will be performed.
[0070] As described with reference to FIG. 2, such policies are first created by the banner setting server (220) and stored in the banner policy storage (240), and then loaded into the banner policy local cache (231) of the banner provision server (230), and after being matched with the user's activity in the banner match module (232), can be displayed on the user terminal (100) through the banner display module (233).
