Description

BANDWIDTH PART FRAMEWORKTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to a user equipment (UE) , a base station, processors for wireless communication and methods for bandwidth part (BWP) framework.BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations, which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication devices, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] In 4G systems, a UE is capable of operating with all possible system bandwidths. In 5G new radio (NR) systems, it is not required to have UE support all system bandwidths. Instead, the concept of bandwidth part (BWP) was introduced such that a UE may support a “part of system bandwidth” . Different BWPs may be configured with different numerologies to meet different traffic needs of reliability and latency. In 6G system, it is assumed that the basic concept of BWP will be maintained to support various traffic types. Enhancements on the BWP framework are still needed.SUMMARY

[0004] The present disclosure relates to methods, apparatuses, and systems that support BWP framework. By receiving at least one downlink (DL) control channel in a  BWP in a first set of BWPs and receiving at least one DL data channel in a BWP in the second set of BWPs, the BWPs for DL control channels and for DL data channels may be separately configured. By transmitting at least one uplink (UL) control channel in a BWP in a third set of BWPs and transmitting at least one UL data channel in a BWP in the fourth set of BWPs, the BWPs for UL control channels and for UL data channels may be separately configured. In this way, the control channel multiplexing efficiency, the communication performance and the resource usage efficiency may be improved, and the network complexity on resource allocation may be reduced.

[0005] In a first aspect of the solution, a UE receives, from a base station, a configuration of at least one of a first set of bandwidth parts (BWPs) , a second set of BWPs, a third set of BWPs or a fourth set of BWPs. The UE perform at least one of the following: receiving, from the base station at least one downlink (DL) control channel in a BWP in the first set of BWPs and at least one DL data channel in a BWP in the second set of BWPs; transmitting, to the base station, at least one uplink (UL) control channel in a BWP in the third set of BWPs and at least one UL data channel in a BWP in the fourth set of BWPs.

[0006] In some implementations of the method and apparatuses described herein, a DL control channel in the at least one DL control channel schedules a DL data transmission in at least one of the following: the BWP in the first set of BWPs or a subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs.

[0098] Principles of the present disclosure will now be described with reference to some embodiments. It is to be understood that these embodiments are described only for the purpose of illustration and help those skilled in the art to understand and implement the present disclosure, without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. The disclosure described herein may be implemented in various manners other than the ones described below.

[0099] In the following description and claims, unless defined otherwise, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skills in the art to which this disclosure belongs.

[0100] References in the present disclosure to “one embodiment, ” “an example embodiment, ” “an embodiment, ” “some embodiments, ” and the like indicate that the embodiment (s) described may include a particular feature, structure, or characteristic, but it is not necessary that every embodiment includes the particular feature, structure, or characteristic. Moreover, such phrases do not necessarily refer to the same embodiment (s) . Further, when a particular feature, structure, or characteristic is described in connection with an embodiment, it is submitted that it is within the knowledge of one skilled in the art to affect such feature, structure, or characteristic in connection with other embodiments whether or not explicitly described.

[0101] It shall be understood that although the terms “first” and “second” or the like may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another element. For example, a first element could also be termed as a second element, and similarly, a second element could also be termed as a first element, without departing from the scope of embodiments. As used herein, the term “and / or” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the listed terms.

[0102] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of example embodiments. As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises” , “comprising” , “has” , “having” , “includes” and / or “including” , when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components etc., but  do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof.

[0103] As used herein, the term “communication network” refers to a network following any suitable communication standards, such as, 5G NR, long term evolution (LTE) , LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) , high-speed packet access (HSPA) , narrow band internet of things (NB-IoT) , and so on. Further, the communications between a terminal device and a network device in the communication network may be performed according to any suitable generation communication protocols, including but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, and / or any other protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Embodiments of the present disclosure may be applied in various communication systems. Given the rapid development in communications, there will also be future type communication technologies and systems in which the present disclosure may be embodied. It should not be seen as limiting the scope of the present disclosure to only the aforementioned systems.

[0104] As used herein, the term “network device” generally refers to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device can access the communication network and receive services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , a radio access network (RAN) node, an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , an NR NB (also referred to as a gNB) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , an infrastructure device for a V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communication, a transmission and reception point (TRP) , a reception point (RP) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a relay, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, a low power node such as a femto BS, a pico BS, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology.

[0105] As used herein, the term “terminal device” generally refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communications. By way of example rather than a limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, a user equipment (UE) , an end user device, a subscriber station (SS) , an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) , a portable subscriber station, a mobile station (MS) , or an access terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but is not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone,  a smart phone, a voice over IP (VoIP) phone, a wireless local loop phone, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a portable computer, a desktop computer, an image capture terminal device such as a digital camera, a gaming terminal device, a music storage and playback appliance, a vehicle-mounted wireless terminal device, a wireless endpoint, a mobile station, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , a USB dongle, a smart device, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an internet of things (loT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device (for example, a remote surgery device) , an industrial device (for example, a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms: “terminal device, ” “communication device, ” “terminal, ” “user equipment” and “UE, ” may be used interchangeably.

[0106] In 4G systems, the first release LTE specification assumes that all UEs are capable of operating with all possible system bandwidths. Therefore, it was not possible to have e.g., a 20MHz cell with a 10MHz UE. This simplifies the 3GPP standard but causes some difficulties in later stage when introducing LTE MTC in specifications, where MTC UEs supports only 1.4MHz channel bandwidth (BW) .

[0107] In NR systems, it is not required to have a UE support all system bandwidths. Instead, the concept of BWP was introduced such that a UE may support a “part of system bandwidth” . Apart from the motivation of UE capability, the BWP scheme is also useful for UE power saving. For example, by switching to a smaller BWP when the UE is not active or has only light traffic, the operations in radio frequency / base band (RF / BB) in the UE side can be reduced. Furthermore, in 5G systems, different services might have varying requirements in terms of reliability and latency and hence the UE may need to be configured to operate using different numerology (e.g., cyclic prefix length, subcarrier spacing) settings. Different BWPs can be configured with different numerology to meet different traffic needs of reliability and latency.

[0108] Although the 5G NR BWP framework provides good flexibility on meeting the needs of traffics and UE power saving, it might cause a severe resource fragmentation issue for both UL BWPs and DL BWPs, leading to performance loss and more gNB  complexity on resource allocation. Beside the resource fragmentation, multiplexing efficiency of control channels in NR BWP framework might be low. This is due to the reason that UEs “spread” in different BWPs, making the control resource in each BWP serve less UEs. In addition, having multiple BWPs and allocating control resources in each BWP might lead to a higher gNB complexity in terms of deployment of CORESET in each BWP. For example, CORESET allocation in different BWPs should be carefully allocated e.g., to reduce resource wastage. In 6G system, it is assumed that the basic concept of BWP will be maintained to support various traffic types. Enhancements on BWP framework for 6G are still needed.

[0109] In view of the above, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for BWP framework. In an aspect of the solution, a UE receives, from a base station, a configuration of at least one of a first set of BWPs, a second set of BWPs, a third set of BWPs or a fourth set of BWPs. The UE may receive, from the base station at least one DL control channel in a BWP in the first set of BWPs. The UE may receive, from the base station at least one DL data channel in a BWP in the second set of BWPs. The UE is not expected to receive DL control channel in the second set of BWPs. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may transmit, to the base station, at least one UL control channel in a BWP in the third set of BWPs. The UE may transmit, to the base station, at least one UL data channel in a BWP in the fourth set of BWPs. The UE is not expected to transmit UL control channel in the fourth set of BWPs. In this way, a BWP framework is proposed that supports BWPs with control channels (i.e., control BWPs) and BWPs without control channels (i.e., data BWPs) . For example, multiple UEs may be configured with a same control BWP but are configured with different data BWPs. In this way, UEs may be “aggregated” to use the same control resources, while maintaining the flexibility of BWP framework in NR systems. Therefore, with the BWP framework, a higher multiplexing efficiency of control channels, a reduced resource fragmentation, a lower resource wastage and a lower gNB complexity may be achieved. Besides, the BWP framework may also support reduced capability UEs with a lower-size BW for data. It should be noted that although here the terminology of BWP, as defined in 5G NR, is reused, there could be other terminologies to represent a similar thing, i.e., a part of frequency resource of the available frequency resource (e.g., a network carrier) , such as a frequency region, a frequency span, and so on. In this case, the control BWP is corresponding to a control  region, a control span, etc., and the data BWP is corresponding to a data region, a data span, etc.

[0110] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0118] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0119] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located  in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0120] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0121] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0122] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of  a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0123] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0124] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0125] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities  102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0126] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0127] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0128] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe  may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0129] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0130] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0131] FIG. 1B illustrates an example of a DL BWP configuration in related solutions of NR systems. In FIG. 1B, two BWPs, e.g., BWP#0 and BWP#1, with different frequency domain locations and different frequency domain sizes are illustrated. In an example implementation, two NR UEs, e.g., UE#0 and UE#1, are configured with  BWP#0 and BWP#1, respectively. In a NR time slot, each of the two UEs may need to monitor the control channel of the camping BWP, which is transmitted in a control resource set (CORESET) of the camping BWP. The data channel is scheduled by the control channel. For example, the UE#0 may monitor the control channel of BWP#0. The control channel of BWP#0 may be transmitted in a CORESET of BWP#0 and may schedule a data channel of BWP#0. Similarly, the UE#1 may monitor the control channel of BWP#1. The control channel of BWP#1 may be transmitted in a CORESET of BWP#1 and may schedule a data channel of BWP#1.

[0132] In NR systems, a UE may be configured with at most four BWPs in both DL and UL, and the number of BWPs a UE can support subjects to UE capability. It should be noted that even if the UE is configured with multiple BWPs, only one active BWP in DL and one active BWP in UL are available at any time. Therefore, a UE only needs to monitor the control channel in the DL active BWP and no need to monitor the control channel of other configured DL BWPs. When a UE is configured with multiple BWPs, the UE can be indicated to switch from one BWP to another BWP, e.g., to adapt the traffic needs. The BWP switching indication can be either from a RRC signalling or a DCI signalling.

[0133] During an initial access or when the UE is in RRC IDLE / INACTIVE, the active BWPs are an initial DL BWP and an initial UL BWP. When the UE switches from RRC IDLE / INACTIVE to RRC CONNECTED, the UE can be configured with a first active BWP to camp on. Besides, the UE may be configured with a default DL BWP and a default UL BWP. The UE will automatically switch from an active BWP to the default BWP when a timer BWPInactiveTimer expires. The default BWP may have smaller BW for e.g., power saving purpose.

[0134] In NR time-division duplex (TDD) scheme, the active DL BWP and UL BWP are paired. Center frequency alignment is assumed for the paired BWPs. This reduces the complexity when UE switches between DL and UL. FIG. 1C illustrates an example of a pair of a DL BWP and a UL BWP that are center frequency aligned in related solutions of NR systems. The DL BWP and the UL BWP are paired. If the DL BWP is active, the active UL BWP should be the UL BWP paired with the DL BWP.

[0135] In NR frequency-division duplex (FDD) scheme, the DL BWP and the UL BWP are configured in a DL carrier and a UL carrier, respectively. The DL BWP and the  UL BWP are separately configured and there is no need to have center frequency alignment between the DL BWP and the UL BWP.

[0136] As mentioned, one motivation of the BWP is to support a UE bandwidth less than the system BW. This is especially useful for the NR enhanced reduced capability (eRedCap) technique, where an eRedCap UE supports maximum 20MHz control channel and maximum 5MHz data channel (for both UL and DL) . The RF BW of eRedCap UEs is 20MHz, while the baseband BW of eRedCap UEs is 5MHz for data channel (PDSCH / PUSCH) , and 20MHz for other channels (e.g., control channel, reference signals, etc) . The control channel BW and data channel BW being different is motivated from the fact that complexity / cost reduction is mainly in baseband (BB) part and data channels. However, there is no significant complexity reduction in RF part and those channels other than data channels. BB part complexity / cost reduction is mainly due to e.g., hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) buffer size reduction for data channels and UE processing reduction. FIGS. 1D and 1E illustrate examples of DL BWPs for eRedCap UEs in related solutions of NR systems. The eRedCap UEs may be configured with a 20MHz BWP with only 5MHz data channel BW. The data channel in the DL BWP may be consecutive (as shown in FIG. 1D) or inconsecutive (as shown in FIG. 1E) .

[0137] Although the 5G NR BWP framework provides good flexibility on meeting the needs of traffics and UE power saving, it might cause a severe resource fragmentation issue for both UL BWPs and DL BWPs, leading to performance loss and more gNB complexity on resource allocation.

[0138] For UL, the resource fragmentation might occur since e.g., UL control channel is “mandatorily” configured in each UL BWP. If a small-size UL BWP is configured within a big-size UL BWP (which inevitably happens when e.g., the big-size UL BWP includes the whole system BW) , resource fragmentation of the big-size UL BWP happens. FIG. 1F illustrates an example of resource fragmentation in a UL BWP configuration in related solutions of NR systems. In a time slot, slot#n, the UL control channel allocated in UL BWP#2 fragments the physical resources of UL BWP#1, making UEs in UL BWP#1 being unable to use the whole BW for data transmission. This is because that UL data transmission only supports frequency consecutive resource allocation for low peak to average power ratio (PAPR) purpose.

[0139] For DL, resource fragmentation might occur since e.g., DL control channel is “mandatorily” configured in each DL BWP. FIG. 1G illustrates an example of resource fragmentation in a DL BWP configuration in related solutions of NR systems. As shown in the example of FIG. 1G, for BWP#0 and BWP#1, if the control resource of BWP#0 overlaps BWP#1, the corresponding resource cannot be used for data transmission of BWP#1, even the corresponding resource is vacant and not utilized for control channel transmission of BWP#1. Similarly, if the control resource of BWP#1 overlaps BWP#0, the corresponding resource cannot be used for data transmission of BWP#0, even the corresponding resource is vacant and not utilized for control channel transmission of BWP#0. As shown in FIG. 1G, the unavailable resources for data transmission in each BWP are wasted even if there is no control channel being transmitted in the BWP.

[0140] Beside the resource fragmentation, multiplexing efficiency of control channels in NR BWP framework might be low. This is due to the reason that UEs “spread” in different BWPs, making the control resource in each BWP serve less UEs. As one example, in a CORESET of a BWP, the gNB has to allocate control resources based on the worst channel status of the UE that are camping on it. However, if in a time slot, the UE with the worst channel status is not scheduled, only part of control resources may be occupied for control channel transmission while other resources are totally wasted.

[0141] In addition, having multiple BWPs and allocating control resources in each BWP might lead to a higher gNB complexity in terms of deployment of CORESET in each BWP. For example, CORESET allocation in different BWPs should be carefully allocated e.g., to reduce resource wastage.

[0142] In 6G systems, it is assumed that the basic concept of BWP will be maintained to support various traffic types. The BWP framework for 6G is expected to reduce or mitigate at least one drawback in the 5G BWP framework. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for 6G BWP framework. The 6G BWP framework in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure may achieve a higher control channel multiplexing efficiency, a higher resource usage efficiency, a lower gNB scheduling complexity, and a better support of lower cost / complexity UEs from the beginning.

[0143] Reference is now made to FIG. 2, which illustrates an example signaling chart of a communication process that supports BWP framework in accordance with some  example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200 may involve the UE 104 and the base station 102. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that process 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0144] As shown in FIG. 2, the base station 102 transmits (202) a configuration 204 of at least one of a first set of BWPs, a second set of BWPs, a third set of BWPs or a fourth set of BWPs to the UE 104. The UE 104 receives (206) the configuration 204 from the base station 102.

[0145] The base station 102 may transmit (208) at least one DL control channel 210 in a BWP in the first set of BWPs. Accordingly, the UE 104 may receive (212) the at least one DL control channel 210 in the BWP in the first set of BWPs. Alternatively or additionally, the base station 102 may transmit (214) at least one DL data channel 216 in a BWP in the second set of BWPs. Accordingly, the UE 104 may receive (218) the at least one DL data channel 216 in the BWP in the second set of BWPs. Alternatively or additionally, the UE 104 may transmit (220) , to the base station 102, at least one UL control channel 222 in a BWP in the third set of BWPs. Accordingly, the base station 102 may receive (224) the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs. Alternatively or additionally, the UE 104 may transmit (226) , to the base station 102, at least one UL data channel 228 in a BWP in the fourth set of BWPs. Accordingly, the base station 102 may receive (230) the at least one UL data channel 228 in the BWP in the fourth set of BWPs.

[0146] In other words, the first set of BWPs may comprise BWPs for DL control channels (i.e., DL control BWPs) , the second set of BWPs may comprise BWPs for DL data channels (i.e., DL control BWPs) , the third set of BWPs may comprise BWPs for UL control channels (i.e., UL control BWPs) , and the fourth set of BWPs may comprise BWPs for UL data channels (i.e., UL control BWPs) . In this way, the DL control BWPs and the DL data BWPs may be separately configured. Alternatively or additionally, the UL control BWPs and the UL data BWPs may be separately configured. In some embodiments, a DL control BWP may be a BWP dedicated for DL control channel, and a DL data BWP may be a BWP dedicated for DL data channel. In other words, only  resources for DL control channels could be located in a DL control BWP, and only resources for DL data channels could be located in a DL data BWP. Alternatively, a DL control BWP may be a BWP with DL control channel, and a DL data BWP may be a BWP without DL control channels. In other words, resources for DL control channels and DL data channels could be allocated in a DL control BWP while only resources for DL data channels may be allocated in a DL data BWP.

[0147] In some implementations, the DL control BWP might be cell common configured while the DL data BWP might be UE-specific configured. For example, different UEs in a cell of the base station 102 may be configured with a same control BWP but are configured with different DL data BWPs. Therefore, in an NR slot, there may be one DCI in the DL control BWP to schedule data transmission in an associated DL data BWP of a first UE, and there may be another DCI in the DL control BWP to schedule data transmission in another associated DL data BWP of a second UE (which is different from the DL data BWP of the first UE) . A DL control channel in the at least one DL control channel 210 may schedule a DL data transmission in a subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs. The subset of BWPs may be a single active DL data BWP or may contain multiple active DL data BWPs. Alternatively or additionally, the DL control channel may schedule a DL data transmission in resources for DL data channels of the BWP in the first set of BWPs if the BWP in the first set of BWPs also include resources for DL data channels.

[0148] In this way, all UEs are “aggregated” to use the same DL control resources, resulting in a higher multiplexing efficiency of DL control channels. Higher multiplexing efficiency may lead to a lower control resource wastage because of lower possibility of not fully utilization of the control resources. In addition, a reduced resource fragmentation, a lower resource wastage, a lower gNB complexity and support of reduced capability UEs with a lower-size BW for data may be achieved and

[0149] In some embodiments, the BWP in the first set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. A DL control channel in the at least one DL control channel 210 may schedule a DL data transmission in the BWP in the first set of BWPs and / or a subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP. In other words, a DL control BWP may be associated with one or multiple DL data BWPs. A control channel transmitted in the DL control BWP may be used to schedule the data transmission in an  associated DL data BWP. That is, the active DL data BWP (s) should be associated with the active DL control BWP. In some embodiments, the association relationship between DL control BWPs and DL data BWPs may be based on a network configuration or predefined. In some implementations, there may be more than one DL control BWPs, and the DL data BWP (s) associated with a first DL control BWP and the DL data BWP (s) associated with a second DL control BWP may be totally different or partially different.

[0150] In some implementations, there may be no restrictions regarding the size of the DL control BWP and associated DL data BWPs. Alternatively, there may be some restrictions regarding the size of the DL control BWP and associated DL data BWPs. In an example, a frequency domain size of the BWP in the first set of BWP may be larger than a frequency domain size of a BWP among the at least one BWP. In other words, the BW of a DL control BWP may be larger than the BW of an associated DL data BWP. In another example, a frequency domain size of the BWP in the first set of BWP may be equal to a frequency domain size of a BWP among the at least one BWP. In other words, the BW of a DL control BWP may be the same as the BW of an associated DL data BWP. In further example, a frequency domain size of the BWP in the first set of BWP may be smaller than a frequency domain size of a BWP among the at least one BWP. In other words, the BW of a DL control BWP may be smaller than the BW of an associated DL data BWP.

[0151] Alternatively, a control resource set (CORESET) in the BWP in the first set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. A DL control channel in the CORESET may schedule a DL data transmission in a subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP. Alternatively or additionally, the DL control channel may schedule a DL data transmission in the BWP in the first set of BWPs if the BWP in the first set of BWPs also include resources for DL data channels. In other words, the association relationship between the DL control BWP and DL data BWPs might be defined and configured between a CORESET of the DL control BWP and the DL data BWPs. That is to say, one or multiple CORESETs may be configured in the DL control BWP. A CORESET in the DL control BWP may be configured to be associated with a set of DL data BWPs and the DL control channel transmitted in the CORESET may be used to schedule the data transmission in an associated DL data BWP. Different CORESETs of a DL control BWP may be configured to be associated with different DL data BWPs. The DL data BWP (s) associated with a first CORESET of a DL control BWP  and the DL data BWP (s) associated with a second CORESET of the DL control BWP may be totally different or partially different.

[0152] FIG. 3A illustrates an example of an association of one DL control BWP and multiple DL data BWPs in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3A, from a UE perspective, a DL control BWP #1 is associated with three DL data BWPs, i.e., DL data BWP #1, DL data BWP #2 and DL data BWP #3. A DCI transmitted in a CORESET of the DL control BWP #1 may be used to schedule data transmission either in data BWP #1 or data BWP #2 or data BWP #3. In some implementations, there may be a second UE which is configured with the same control BWP #1 as well, while data BWP#1 and data BWP#3 are configured for data transmission for the second UE. A DCI transmitted to the second UE in a CORESET of the DL control BWP #1 may be used to schedule data transmission either in data BWP #1 or data BWP #3.

[0153] In time domain, the control BWP and data BWP may occupy different time units. As an example, in a time slot with both control BWP and data BWP, the control BWP may be configured to occupy a first set of symbols of the slot, while the data BWP may occupy a second set of symbols of the slot. The first set of symbols and the second set of symbols may be non-overlapped, partial overlapped or fully overlapped. As another example, a time slot may not contain a control BWP but just data BWPs, in which case a data BWP may occupy all the available symbols of the slot.

[0154] Turning back to FIG. 2, the UE 104 may receive an indication of activating the BWP in the first set of BWPs from the base station 102. The at least one DL control channel 210 may be monitored in the BWP in the first set of BWPs. Alternatively or additionally, the UE may receive an indication of activating a subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs. The at least one DL data channel 216 may be monitored in the subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs. The subset of BWPs are associated with the BWP in the first set of BWP. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one DL data channel 216 may be monitored in the BWP in the first set of BWPs if the BWP in the first set of BWPs also include resources for DL data channels.

[0155] In some embodiments, the maximum number of BWPs in the first set of BWPs may be associated with a capability report of the UE 104 and may be no greater than a first predefined number. The maximum number of BWPs in the second set of BWPs may  be associated with the capability report of the UE 104 and may be no greater than a second predefined number. The number of BWPs in the first set of BWPs may be smaller than the number of BWPs in the second set of BWPs. For example, the UE 104 may support maximum K1 DL control BWPs and maximum K2 DL data BWPs, where K1 and K2 are predefined values. Typically, K1 < K2. The amount of DL control BWPs and the amount DL data BWPs that a UE can support are based on UE capability reporting. For example, K1 might be equal to 2. In one example there could be a larger size DL control BWP and a small size control BWP. The UE 104 may camp on the smaller size DL control BWP when inactive for reducing power consumption. In another example, there may be two DL control BWPs with different numerologies. K2 may be e.g., equal to 4. In an example, DL data BWPs with different sizes may be used for different traffic types with different latency requirements.

[0156] In some embodiments, numerologies of two BWPs in the second set of BWPs may be different. Numerologies of two BWPs in the first set of BWPs may be different. Alternatively, numerologies of two CORESETs in a BWP in the first set of BWPs may be different. In other words, the numerology of DL data BWPs / DL control BWPs  / CORESETs may be separately configured to meet latency requirements of different traffic types. For example, the numerology of different DL control BWPs may be separately configured; the numerology of different data BWPs may be separately configured; the numerology of different CORESET in a control BWP may be separately configured.

[0157] In some embodiments, the BWP in the first set of BWPs is activated for monitoring the at least one DL control channel 210, and a subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs are activated for monitoring the at least one DL data channel 216. The UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an indication of a BWP switching to a further subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP. The subset of BWPs and the further subset of BWPs may be totally different or partially different. The UE 104 may perform a BWP switching from the subset of BWPs to the further subset of BWPs. In other words, the UE 104 may be configured with one active DL control BWP and a set of active DL data BWPs. The active DL data BWPs may be associated with the active DL control BWP. The UE 104 may be indicated to switch DL data BWP (s) while the DL control BWP is not switched. The indication may be transmitted through either of a RRC signaling or a MAC signaling or a PHY signaling.

[0158] In some embodiments, the BWP in the first set of BWPs is a first BWP and the first BWP is activated for monitoring the at least one DL control channel 210. A subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs are activated for monitoring the at least one DL data channel 216. The UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an indication of a BWP switching to a second BWP in the first set of BWPs and then perform a BWP switching from the first BWP to the second BWP. The second BWP in the first set of BWPs may be associated with further at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. The UE 104 may further perform a BWP switching from the subset of BWPs to a further subset of BWPs among the further at least one BWP. In some implementations, the further subset of BWPs are default BWPs for the second BWP in the first set of BWPs. Alternatively, the further subset of BWPs are indicated by the base station 102. In other words, the UE 104 may be configured with one active DL control BWP and a set of active DL data BWPs. The UE 104 may be indicated to switch to another DL control BWP. Correspondingly, DL data BWP (s) may also be switched. The UE 104 may be indicated regarding which DL data BWP (s) to be switched to. The indication may be transmitted through either of a RRC signaling or a MAC signaling or a PHY signaling. Alternatively, the UE 104 may not be indicated regarding which DL data BWP (s) to be switched to. If no indication is received, the UE 104 will camp on a configured DL data BWP, e.g., a default DL data BWP.

[0159] FIG. 3B illustrates an example of DL BWP switching in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In the example of FIG. 3B, the DL control BWP #0 is associated with DL data BWP #0, DL data BWP #1 and DL #data BWP #2. The DL control BWP #0 is associated with DL data BWP #0 and DL #data BWP #3. In mode A BWP switching, the UE may be indicated to switch from DL data BWP #1 to DL data BWP #2 while the active DL control BWP #0 for the UE is not switched. In mode B BWP switching, the UE may be indicated to switch from DL control BWP #0 to DL control BWP #1 and indicated to switch from DL data BWP #0 to DL data BWP #3. It should be understood that the BWP switching in FIG. 3B is merely for illustration. Other BWP switching implementations are also possible. For example, as shown in FIG. 3B, both the DL control BWP #0 and the DL control BWP #1 are associated to DL data BWP #0; if the DL control BWP #0 and DL data BWP #0 are activated, when the UE receives an indication of switching from DL control BWP #0 to DL control BWP #1, but receives no indication of DL data BWP switching, the DL data  BWP #0 is not switched. In another example, the when the UE receives an indication of switching from DL control BWP #0 to DL control BWP #1, but receives no indication of DL data BWP switching, the UE may switch to a predefined or preconfigured DL data BWP for the DL control BWP #1.

[0160] Besides BWP switching, there may also be CORESET (s) switching among the CORESETs of the DL control BWP. For example, the CORESETs of a DL control BWP may be grouped according to numerologies. The UE may be indicated to switch from one group of CORESETs, which is configured with one numerology, to another group of CORESETs, that is configured with another numerology. If the CORESETs are associated with different set of DL data BWPs, then DL data BWP shall be switched correspondingly.

[0161] Turning back to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, a first group of CORESETs in the BWP in the first set of BWPs is activated for monitoring the at least one DL control channel 210 and is associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. A subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP are activated for monitoring the at least one DL data channel 216. The UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an indication of a BWP switching to a further subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP. Based on the indication, the UE may perform a BWP switching from the subset of BWPs to the further subset of BWPs. The subset of BWPs and the further subset of BWPs may be totally different or partially different.

[0162] In some embodiments, a first group of CORESETs in the BWP in the first set of BWPs is activated for monitoring the at least one DL control channel 210. The first group of CORESETs is associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. A subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP are activated for monitoring the at least one DL data channel 216. The UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an indication of a CORESET switching to a second group of CORESETs in the BWP in the first set of BWPs.. The UE 104 may perform a CORESET switching from the first group of CORESETs to the second group of CORESETs. The second first group of CORESETs may be associated with further at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. The at least one BWP and the further at least one BWP may be totally different or partially different. The UE 104 may perform a BWP switching from the subset of BWPs to a further subset of BWPs among the further at least one BWP. The further subset of BWPs may be default  BWPs for the second group of CORESETs in the first set of BWPs. Alternatively, the further subset of BWPs may be indicated by the base station 102.

[0163] The UE 104 may be configured with a single active DL control BWP but may be configured with one or multiple active DL data BWPs. The active DL data BWPs are configured from those DL data BWPs that are associated with the active DL control BWP. In some implementations, which DL data BWP (s) is used for data transmission may be dynamically indicated in the scheduling DCI. A DL data BWP may contain frequency consecutive PRBs or frequency non-consecutive PRBs, depending on BWP configuration.

[0164] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may receive, from a base station 102, an indication of a default BWP in the first set of BWPs and an indication of a default BWP in the second set of BWPs. The default BWP in the second set of BWPs may be associated with the default BWP in the first set of BWPs. In other words, the UE 104 may be configured with one default DL control BWP and one default DL data BWP. The default DL data BWP is among the DL data BWPs that are associated with the default DL control BWP. For example, for UE power saving, the default DL control BWP might be the one with smallest size among the K1 DL control BWPs and default DL data BWP might be smallest DL data BWP among the K2 DL data BWPs. Alternatively, the default DL data BWP may be configured over those DL data BWPs associated with the default DL control BWP.

[0165] In some embodiments, a UL control BWP may be a BWP dedicated for UL control channel, and a UL data BWP may be a BWP dedicated for UL data channel. In other words, only resources for UL control channels could be located in a UL control BWP, and only resources for UL data channels could be located in a UL data BWP. Alternatively, a UL control BWP may be a BWP with UL control channel, and a UL data BWP may be a BWP without UL control channels. In other words, resources for UL control channels and UL data channels could be allocated in a UL control BWP while only resources for UL data channels may be allocated in a UL data BWP. In some implementations, UEs may be configured with a same UL control BWP, but with different data BWPs. Therefore, UEs are “aggregated” to transmit UL control channel in a same UL control BWP, which is beneficial in terms lower fragmentation in UL, etc. In some embodiments, the UE 104 may be configured with one UL control BWP and one or multiple UL data BWPs. FIG. 4A illustrates an example of an association of one UL  control BWP and multiple UL data BWPs in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. A UE is configured with the UL control BWP and two UL data BWPs (UL data BWP #1 and UL data BWP #2) . Control channels may be allocated in the edge of the UL control BWP for frequency hopping purpose. The two UL data BWPs may be used for UL data transmission.

[0166] In some embodiments, numerologies of two BWPs in the fourth set of BWPs may be different. Numerologies of two BWPs in the third set of BWPs may be different. Alternatively, numerologies of two control resources in a BWP in the third set of BWPs may be different. Alternatively, numerologies of two control resource sets in a BWP in the third set of BWPs may be different. In other words, the numerology of UL control BWPs or UL control resource sets or UL control resources can be separately configured to meet latency requirements of different traffic types. For example, the numerology of different UL control BWPs may be separately configured; the numerology of a UL data BWPs may be separately configured; the numerology of a PUCCH resource set in a control BWP may be separately configured.

[0167] Different with DL where DL control BWPs are associated with DL data BWPs for scheduling DL data transmission, in UL, a UL control BWP might not need to be associated with the UL data BWPs, since UL control channels are not used for scheduling data transmission, but are used to provide UCI of e.g., HARQ-Ack for a DL data channel, CSI feedback for DL channels, or scheduling request, etc. Therefore, a UL control BWP or PUCCH resource sets / PUCCH resource of a UL control BWP may be associated with a DL control BWP, a CORESET of a DL control BWP or DL data BWPs.

[0168] In some embodiments, the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with the BWP in the first set of BWPs. The BWP in the first set of BWPs is associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, UCI for the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. In other words, a UL control BWP may be associated with a DL control BWP, such that the UL control channels in the UL control BWP may provide UCI for the DL data BWPs that are associated with the DL control BWP.

[0169] Alternatively, the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control  channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, UCI for the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. In other words, a UL control BWP may be associated with a set of DL data BWPs, such that the UL control BWP may provide control resources for UCI feedback for the associated DL data BWPs.

[0170] Alternatively, the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with at least one CORESET in the BWP in the first set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, a sequence determined by resources of downlink control information received in the at least one CORESET. In other words, a UL control BWP may be associated with a CORESET of a DL control BWP, such that the sequence transmitted in the UL control BWP may be determined by the resource of the DCI transmitted in the CORESET.

[0171] In some embodiments, at least one control resource set in the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with the BWP in the first set of BWPs. The BWP in the first set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the at least one control resource set in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, an UCI for the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. In other words, a UL control resource set of a UL control BWP may be associated with a DL control BWP, such that the UL control channels in the UL control resource set may provide UCI for the DL data BWPs that are associated with the DL control BWP.

[0172] Alternatively, at least one control resource set in the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the at least one control resource set in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, UCI for the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. In other words, a UL control resource set of a UL control BWP may be associated with a set of DL data BWPs, such that the UL control resource set may provide control resources for UCI feedback for the associated DL data BWPs. FIG. 4B illustrates an example of an association between an UL control BWP and DL data BWPs in accordance  with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In the example in FIG. 4B, DL control BWP #0 and UL control BWP #0 may be activated for a UE. The DL control BWP #0 is associated with DL data BWP #0, DL data BWP #1 and DL data BWP #2. The UL control BWP #0 comprises UL control resource set #0 and UL control resource set #1. The UL control resource set #0 may be associated with DL data BWP #0 and DL data BWP #1. The UL control resource set #1 may be associated with DL data BWP #2. In an example, if the DL data BWP #0 is activated for the UE, the UE may transmit UCI of HARQ-Ack or CSI feedback for DL data channels in DL data BWP #0 using UL control resource set #0. If the DL data BWP #1 is activated for the UE, the UE may transmit UCI of HARQ-Ack or CSI feedback for DL data channels in DL data BWP #1 using UL control resource set #0. If the DL data BWP #2 is activated for the UE, the UE may transmit UCI of HARQ-Ack or CSI feedback for DL data channels in DL data BWP #2 using UL control resource set #1.

[0173] Turning back to FIG. 2, alternatively, at least one control resource set in the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with at least one CORESET in the BWP in the first set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the at least one control resource set in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, a sequence determined by resources of downlink control information received in the at least one CORESET. In other words, a UL control resource set of a UL control BWP may be associated with a CORESET of a DL control BWP, such that the sequence transmitted in the UL control resource set may be determined by the resource of the DCI transmitted in the CORESET.

[0174] In some embodiments, at least one control resource in the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with the BWP in the first set of BWPs. The BWP in the first set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the at least one control resource in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, an UCI for the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. In other words, a UL control resource of a UL control BWP may be associated with a DL control BWP, such that the UL control channels in the UL control resource may provide UCI for the DL data BWPs that are associated with the DL control BWP.

[0175] Alternatively, at least one control resource in the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the at least one control resource in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, UCI for the at least one BWP in the second set of BWPs. In other words, a UL control resource of a UL control BWP may be associated with a set of DL data BWPs, such that the UL control resource may provide control resources for UCI feedback for the associated DL data BWPs.

[0176] Alternatively, at least one control resource in the BWP in the third set of BWPs may be associated with at least one CORESET in the BWP in the first set of BWPs. When transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102 in the at least one control resource in the BWP in the third set of BWPs, a sequence determined by resources of downlink control information received in the at least one CORESET. In other words, a UL control resource of a UL control BWP may be associated with a CORESET of a DL control BWP, such that the sequence transmitted in the UL control resource may be determined by the resource of the DCI transmitted in the CORESET.

[0177] In some embodiments, the BWP in the first set of BWPs is associated with the BWP in the third set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222. The second BWP in the first set of BWPs is associated with a further BWP in the third set of BWPs. The UE 104 may perform a BWP switching from the first BWP to the second BWP. The UE 104 may further perform a BWP switching from the BWP in the third set of BWPs to the further BWP in the third set of BWPs. In other words, if a UL control BWP is associated with a DL control BWP, then if the active DL control BWP changes, the active UL control BWP will be changed correspondingly.

[0178] In some embodiments, the subset of BWPs among the at least one BWP is associated with the BWP in the third set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222. The further subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs is associated with a further BWP in the third set of BWPs. The UE 104 may perform a BWP switching from the subset of BWPs to the further subset of BWPs. The UE 104 may further perform a BWP switching from the BWP in the third set of BWPs to the further BWP in the third set of BWPs. In other words, if a UL control BWP is associated with a  DL data BWP, then if the active DL data BWP changes, the active UL control BWP will be changed correspondingly.

[0179] In some embodiments, the first group of CORESETs is associated with the BWP in the third set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222. The second group of CORESETs is associated with a further BWP in the third set of BWPs. The UE 104 may perform a CORESET switching from the first group of CORESETs to the second group of CORESETs. The UE 104 may further perform a BWP switching from the BWP in the third set of BWPs to the further BWP in the third set of BWPs. In other words, if a UL control BWP is associated with a CORESET of a DL control BWP, then if the active CORESET of a DL control BWP changes, the active UL control BWP will be changed correspondingly.

[0180] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may perform a BWP switching from the BWP in the third set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 to a subset of BWPs in the fourth set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL data channel 228. For example, assume that the UL control channel and the UL data channel cannot be transmitted simultaneously, a BWP switching between the UL control BWP and the UL data BWP might happen when the UE switches between UL control channel transmission and UL data channel transmission.

[0181] In some embodiments, no center frequency alignment is required for the active DL control / data BWPs and the active UL control / data BWPs.

[0182] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may determine a radio frequency (RF) center frequency for DL based on the BWP in the first set of BWPs activated for monitoring the at least one DL control channel 210 and a subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs activated for monitoring the at least one DL data channel 216. In other words, for FDD, from the perspective of the UE 104, a single RF center frequency may be determined for DL, such that there is no RF retuning between the active DL control BWP and active DL data BWP (s) . As one embodiment, in DL, RF center frequency may be determined to be in the middle of total span of the active DL control BWP and the associated DL data BWPs. For example, if the DL data BWPs are within the BW of the associated DL control BWP, the center frequency is determined as the center frequency of the control BWP. Conversely, if the DL control BWP is within the BW of an associated  DL data BWP, the RF center frequency is determined as the center frequency of the DL data BWP.

[0183] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may determine a RF center frequency for UL based on the BWP in the third set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222 and a subset of BWPs in the fourth set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL data channel 228. In other words, for FDD, from the perspective of the UE 104, a single RF center frequency may be determined as the middle of total span of the active UL control BWP and active UL data BWP (s) , such that there is no RF retuning between the active UL control BWP and active UL data BWP (s) .

[0184] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may determine a RF center frequency based on at least one of the following: the BWP in the first set of BWPs activated at least for monitoring the at least one DL control channel 210; a subset of BWPs in the second set of BWPs activated for monitoring the at least one DL data channel 216; the BWP in the third set of BWPs activated at least for transmitting the at least one UL control channel 222; or a subset of BWPs in the fourth set of BWPs activated for transmitting the at least one UL data channel 228. In other words, for TDD, a single RF center frequency may be determined for both DL and UL. The center frequency may be in the middle of total span of active UL control BWPs, active UL data BWPs, active DL control BWPs and active DL data BWPs.
