[0039] The detailed description of the appended drawings is intended as a description of the preferred embodiments of the present disclosure and is not intended to represent the only form in which the present disclosure may be practiced. It should be understood that the same or equivalent functions may be accomplished by different embodiments that are intended to be encompassed within the spirit and scope of the present disclosure.

[0040] Reference will now be made in detail to some embodiments of the present disclosure, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. To facilitate understanding, embodiments are provided under a specific network architecture (s) and new service scenarios, such as the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) 5G NR or 6G, 3GPP LTE, and so on. It is contemplated that along with the developments of network architectures and new service scenarios, all embodiments in the present disclosure are also applicable to similar technical problems; and moreover, the terminologies recited in the present disclosure may change, which should not affect the principles of the present disclosure.

[0041] The single-cell scheduling mechanism that allows scheduling a single cell per a scheduling DCI and the multi-cell scheduling mechanism that allows scheduling one or more cells per a scheduling DCI may both be supported in a wireless communication system. There is only one scheduling cell for each cell in a set of cells for multi-cell scheduling. That is, the multi-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling the set of cells and the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling a single cell in the set of cells (if configured) are transmitted on the same scheduling cell. This would result in a high control load on the single scheduling cell.

[0042] The present disclosure provides a scheduling mechanism to alleviate control channel congestion on the scheduling cell when both multi-cell and single-cell scheduling are considered. For example, at least one additional scheduling cell is introduced for alleviating control channel congestion. For example, a cell within the set of cells for multi-cell scheduling may have more than one scheduling cell.

[0043] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of wireless communication system 100 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0044] The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more NEs 102 (e.g., one or more BSs) , one or more UEs 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communication system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultra-wideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , and IEEE 802.20. The wireless communication system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communication system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0045] The one or more NEs 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communication system 100. One or more of the NEs 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0046] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different  geographic coverage areas may be associated with a different NE 102.

[0047] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communication system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0048] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0049] An NE 102 may support communication with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with another NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3 or another network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106) . In some implementations, one or more NEs 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0050] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) ,  an access and mobility management (AMF) ) functions and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NEs 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0051] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0052] In the wireless communication system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communication system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communication) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0053] In some embodiments, the NEs 102 may include one or more relay nodes, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes or wireless access backhaul (WAB) nodes which can provide wireless access services for UEs 104. A relay node (or an IAB  node or a WAB node) can directly connect to a BS or hop through one or more relay nodes (or one or more IAB or WAB nodes) before reaching the BS.

[0054] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communication system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A sixth numerology (e.g., μ =5) may be associated with a sixth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 480 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A seventh numerology (e.g., μ=6) may be associated with a seventh subcarrier spacing (e.g., 960 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. For ambient IoT communication, additional numerologies (e.g., μ=-1 or μ =-2) may be introduced corresponding to 7.5 kHz or 3.75 kHz respectively.

[0055] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0056] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communication system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth  numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings (SCSs) of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0057] In the wireless communication system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communication system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communication over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communication traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0058] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ =0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ =1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple  numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0059] A UE 104 may include computing devices, such as desktop computers, laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs) , tablet computers, smart televisions (e.g., televisions connected to the Internet) , set-top boxes, game consoles, security systems (including security cameras) , vehicle on-board computers, network devices (e.g., routers, switches, and modems) , or the like. According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE 104 may include a portable wireless communication device, a smart phone, a cellular telephone, a flip phone, a device having a subscriber identity module, a personal computer, a selective call receiver, or any other device that is capable of sending and receiving communication signals on a wireless network. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE 104 includes wearable devices, such as smart watches, fitness bands, optical head-mounted displays, or the like. Moreover, a UE 104 may be referred to as a subscriber unit, a mobile, a mobile station, a user, a terminal, a mobile terminal, a wireless terminal, a fixed terminal, a subscriber station, a user terminal, or a device, or described using other terminology used in the art. A UE 104 may communicate with an NE 102 (e.g., a BS) via uplink (UL) communication signals. An NE 102 may communicate with a UE 104 via downlink (DL) communication signals.

[0060] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate over licensed spectrums, whereas in some other embodiments, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate over unlicensed spectrums. The present disclosure is not intended to be limited to the implementation of any particular wireless communication system architecture or protocol. Persons skilled in the art should understand that as technology develops and advances, the terminologies described in the present disclosure may change, but should not affect or limit the principles and spirit of the present disclosure.

[0061] In a wireless communication system, an NE (e.g., a BS) and a UE may communicate via DL channels and UL channels. For example, a UE may monitor a PDCCH in one or more search spaces. The PDCCH may carry downlink control  information (DCI) , which may schedule uplink channels, such as a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) , or downlink channels, such as a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) .

[0062] A communication technology (e.g., NR) may support a wide range of spectrums in different frequency ranges. For example, in the 5G Advanced market, it is expected that the availability of the spectrum will be increased, which is possibly due to re-farming the bands originally used for previous cellular generation networks. For example, for some low frequency bands of frequency range 1 (FR1) (e.g., 410 MHz -7125 MHz) , the available spectrum bands tend to be more fragmented and scattered with a narrower bandwidth. In addition, for bands of frequency range 2 (FR2) (e.g., 24250 MHz -52600 MHz) and some bands of FR1, the available spectrum may be wider such that an intra-band multi-carrier operation is necessary. To meet different spectrum needs, it is important to ensure that these fragmented or scattered spectrum bands or spectrums with wider bandwidth are utilized in a more spectrum and power efficient and flexible manner, thereby providing higher throughput and decent coverage in the network.

[0063] A communication system (e.g., NR) may be designed to support a maximum of 16 component carriers (CCs) in the case of carrier aggregation (CA) or a maximum of 32 CCs in the case of dual connectivity (DC) . In some embodiments of the present disclosure, in the case of CA, one (i.e., a single) DCI can schedule at most one cell (e.g., carrier) by cross-cell (or cross-carrier) scheduling or self-scheduling. In some embodiments, a scheduling mechanism may only allow scheduling a single PUSCH or PDSCH on a single cell per a scheduling DCI. In the context of the present disclosure, this scheduling mechanism is referred to as single-cell scheduling. DCI formats that can be used for single-cell scheduling include, but are not limited to, DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and DCI format 1_2.

[0064] With more available scattered spectrum bands or spectrums with wider bandwidth, the need for simultaneous scheduling of multiple cells is expected to increase. Clearly, the single-cell scheduling mechanism requires much signaling overhead for PDCCHs to schedule DL channels (e.g., PDSCHs) or UL channels (e.g.,  PUSCHs) when the number of cells configured for a UE is large. To reduce signaling overhead, it would be beneficial to extend from single-cell scheduling to multi-cell scheduling, that is, using a single DCI format to schedule multiple DL channels (e.g., PDSCHs) or UL channels (e.g., PUSCHs) on multiple cells configured for the UE. This scheduling mechanism can greatly reduce signaling overhead. DCI formats that can be used for multi-cell scheduling include, but are not limited to, DCI format 0_3 and DCI format 1_3.

[0065] In some embodiments, there is a limitation on such scheduling mechanism. For example, a maximum of one DL channel (e.g., one PDSCH) or one UL channel (e.g., one PUSCH) is allowed to be scheduled on one cell. For example, each DCI format 0_3 or 1_3 can schedule up to 4 cells, with the restriction of a single PUSCH or PDSCH per scheduled cell. In some embodiments, a signal DCI can schedule one or more cells with one or more DL channels (e.g., PDSCHs) or UL channels (e.g., PUSCHs) per scheduled cell.

[0066] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, a BS may configure, for a UE, a set of cells (denoted as cell set #1) which can be used for multi-cell scheduling. For example, the BS may transmit a DCI to the UE, and the DCI may schedule one or more downlink channels (e.g., PDSCHs) or one or more uplink channels (e.g., PUSCHs) on one or more cells of cell set #1.

[0067] For example, referring to FIG. 2, a set of cells for multi-cell scheduling (e.g., including but not limited to cells 231-234 in FIG. 2) may be configured for a UE by a BS via RRC signaling. In some embodiments, PDCCH monitoring on a DCI for multi-cell scheduling may be configured on one cell (e.g., cell 231) of the set of cells. In other words, a search space for monitoring a DCI for multi-cell scheduling may be configured on one cell (e.g., cell 231) . Each cell of the set of cells may correspond to a respective cell (e.g., serving cell) or carrier of the UE. Each cell (serving cell) may be associated with a (serving) cell index. The SCSs of cells 231-234 may be different or the same.

[0068] In some embodiments, a BS may transmit a single DCI to schedule a plurality of transmissions (or channels) on a plurality of cells. For example, as shown in FIG. 2, DCI 211 on cell 231 may schedule a single transmission (or a single channel) on each  of cells 231-234. That is, DCI 211 may schedule channel 221 on cell 231, channel 222 on cell 232, channel 223 on cell 233 and channel 224 on cell 234. In some examples, channels 221-224 may be uplink channels or uplink transmissions such as PUSCHs. In some examples, channels 221-224 may be downlink channels or downlink transmissions such as PDSCHs.

[0069] In some embodiments, for any cell within the set of cells (e.g., cell set #1) configured for multi-cell scheduling using a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 or DCI format 1_3) , the PDCCH carrying the multi-cell scheduling DCI as well as the PDCCH carrying a single-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2, if supported by a UE) may be monitored on the same scheduling cell. In other words, for each cell within cell set #1, the multi-cell scheduling DCI and the single-cell scheduling DCI can be monitored simultaneously from the same scheduling cell, that is, there is only one scheduling cell for each scheduled cell.

[0070] For example, referring to FIG. 3, a plurality of cells (e.g., including but not limited to cells 331-334 in FIG. 3) may be configured for a UE for multi-cell scheduling. That is, cell set #1 may include cells 331-334. Cell 331 may be the scheduling cell for multi-cell scheduling cell set #1. For example, DCI format 1_3 or DCI format 0_3 may be monitored on cell 331. In some embodiments, for each cell within cell set #1 including cell 33, the corresponding scheduling cell is cell 331. That is, in addition to the multi-cell scheduling DCI, all of the single-cell scheduling DCIs (if configured) are monitored only on cell 331 for each cell within cell set #1.

[0071] For example, for cell 331, a UE may monitor the multi-cell scheduling DCI and the single-cell scheduling DCI (s) (if configured) on cell 331; for cell 332, the UE may monitor the multi-cell scheduling DCI and the single-cell scheduling DCI (s) (if configured) on cell 331; for cell 333, the UE may monitor the multi-cell scheduling DCI and the single-cell scheduling DCI (s) (if configured) on cell 331; and for cell 334, the UE may monitor the multi-cell scheduling DCI and the single-cell scheduling DCI (s) (if configured) on cell 331. For example, DCI 311 may be transmitted on cell 331 for scheduling a plurality of channels (e.g., channels 321-324) . Each of DCIs 312-315 may be transmitted on cell 331 for scheduling a single channel. For example, DCI  312 may schedule channel 325 on cell 331, DCI 313 may schedule channel 326 on cell 332, DCI 314 may schedule channel 327 on cell 333, and DCI 315 may schedule channel 328 on cell 334.

[0072] The above PDCCH monitoring scheme is quite simple and clear. However, a disadvantage is the high control load on the unique scheduling cell, as all the PDCCHs for scheduling all the cells within the set of cells are transmitted on the scheduling cell. In particular, when the scheduling cell is in FR1 and has limited bandwidth, congestion on the control channel will occur on the scheduling cell. Consequently, some cells may be unable to be scheduled due to insufficient PDCCH capacity on the scheduling cell. Therefore, a new scheduling mechanism is desired to alleviate control channel congestion on the scheduling cell when both multi-cell and single-cell scheduling are considered. More details on the embodiments of the present disclosure will be illustrated in the following text in combination with the appended drawings. It should be noted that the solutions of the present disclosure can be applied to both downlink scheduling and uplink scheduling.

[0073] In some embodiments, at least one additional scheduling cell is introduced for alleviating control channel congestion. For example, a cell (denoted as cell #X) within cell set #1 may have more than one (e.g., up to two) scheduling cell, which includes one scheduling cell that is used to transmit multi-cell scheduling DCI and another scheduling cell that is used to transmit single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling only cell #X via either cross-cell scheduling or self-scheduling.

[0074] For example, a UE may be configured with a search space (denoted as SS #A) on a scheduling cell (denoted as scheduling cell #A) for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI, which can schedule cell set #1 including cell #X, and may be further configured with a search space (denoted as SS #B) on another scheduling cell (denoted as scheduling cell #B) for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI, which can schedule only cell #X. The UE may: monitor the multi-cell scheduling DCI in SS #A, detect the multi-cell scheduling DCI scheduling at least one cell in cell set #1, and then receive a downlink transmission (s) or transmit an uplink transmission (s) on the at least one cell (i.e., depending on whether the DCI is for DL scheduling or UL scheduling) . Accordingly, the BS may transmit the multi-cell scheduling DCI scheduling the at least  one cell in cell set #1, and transmit the downlink transmission (s) or receive the uplink transmission (s) on the at least one cell. The UE may: monitor the single-cell scheduling DCI in SS #B, detect the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling only cell #X, and then receive a downlink transmission or transmit an uplink transmission on cell #X (i.e., depending on whether the DCI is for DL scheduling or UL scheduling) . Accordingly, the BS may transmit the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X, and transmit the downlink transmission or receive the uplink transmission on cell #X.

[0075] Various methods may be employed for configuring scheduling cell #A and scheduling cell #B. The following are some examples. Persons skilled in the art can conceive of other methods that are also within the scope of the present disclosure.

[0076] In some embodiments, from the perspective of cell #X, scheduling cell #A may be used to transmit only a multi-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell set #1. The word "only" here means that scheduling cell #A may not be used to transmit other types of DCI that can schedule cell #X, such as a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X. However, from the perspective of other cells (e.g., cell #M, which is different from cell #X) in cell set #1, other types of DCI that can schedule cell #M can be transmitted on scheduling cell #A. For example, a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #M within cell set #1 may be transmitted on scheduling cell #A. In some embodiments, scheduling cell #A may or may not be included in cell set #1. From the perspective of cell #X, scheduling cell #B may be used to transmit only a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X via self-scheduling. The word "only" here means that scheduling cell #B may not be used to transmit other types of DCI (e.g., a multi-cell scheduling DCI) that can schedule cell #X. In these embodiments, scheduling cell #B is cell #X.

[0077] From a UE's perspective, the UE may be configured to monitor a multi-cell scheduling DCI only on scheduling cell #A for scheduling at least one cell within cell set #1 within the set of cells and may be configured to monitor a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X on cell #X via self-scheduling.

[0078] Compared to the scheduling scheme shown in FIG. 3, in the above embodiments, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X is transmitted on cell #X itself. This results in the corresponding PDCCH load being offloaded from  scheduling cell #A to cell #X, thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on scheduling cell #A.

[0079] In some embodiments, cell #X may be the cell with a predefined cell index within cell set #1. For example, cell #X can be the cell with the smallest serving cell index among cell set #1, or the cell with the largest serving cell index among cell set #1. In some embodiments, cell #X may be the cell with the smallest PDCCH load among cell set #1, or the cell with the largest PDCCH capacity among cell set #1. In some embodiments, cell #X may not be scheduling cell #A. For example, if scheduling cell #A is the cell with the smallest PDCCH load among cell set #1, cell #X may be the cell with the second smallest PDCCH load among cell set #1. For example, if scheduling cell #A is the cell with the largest PDCCH capacity among cell set #1, cell #X may be the cell with the second largest PDCCH capacity among cell set #1. In some embodiments, cell #X may be the cell on which a search space for single-cell scheduling is configured. In some embodiments, cell #X may be any cell within cell set #1.

[0080] In some embodiments, depending on the configuration of the BS, any number of cells (e.g., all or some cells) within cell set #1 can be additionally scheduled by a single-cell scheduling DCI via respectively self-scheduling. From a UE's perspective, the UE may be configured to monitor a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling each of one or more cells within cell set #1 on the corresponding cell of the one or more cells. In other words, for each of the one or more cells within cell set #1, the UE may be configured with a search space for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI, which can schedule the corresponding cell, on the corresponding cell.

[0081] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cell set #1. For example, for each cell within cell set #1, the total number of different DCI sizes configured to be monitored is no more than 4 for the cell and the total number of different DCI sizes with cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) configured to be monitored is no more than 3 for the cell.

[0082] For cell set #1, the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 and / or DCI format 1_3) is counted on a reference cell. The PDCCH blind detection (BD)  / CCE budget of the multi-cell scheduling DCI is also counted on the  reference cell. For example, at least one of the DCI size for the multi-cell scheduling DCI, the number of PDCCH candidates for the multi-cell scheduling DCI, or the number of CCEs for the multi-cell scheduling DCI is counted on the reference cell. For the reference cell, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for the multi-cell scheduling DCIs and the single-cell scheduling DCIs (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) .

[0083] In some embodiments, when scheduling cell #A is included in cell set #1 and the search space for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 / 1_3) is configured only on scheduling cell #A, the reference cell is scheduling cell #A. For example, when scheduling cell #A is included in cell set #1 and a search space (e.g., SS #A) for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on scheduling cell #A (e.g., configured only on scheduling cell #A) , at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the multi-cell scheduling DCI is counted on scheduling cell #A.

[0084] In some embodiments, when a search space (e.g., SS #A) for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on scheduling cell #A, a search space (denoted as SS #A') for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is also configured on a cell (denoted as cell #A') within cell set #1, and SS #A' and SS #A have the same search space ID, then the reference cell is cell #A'. For example, when SS #A' for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on cell #A' within cell set #1 and has the same search space ID as SS #A on scheduling cell #A, then at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the multi-cell scheduling DCI is counted on cell #A'.

[0085] In some embodiments, it is up to the BS on which cell the search space of a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured. In some embodiments, the same reference cell is used for both the UL multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3) and the DL multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 1_3) .

[0086] For cell #X within cell set #1, the DCI size of a single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2) is counted on cell #X itself. The BD / CCE budget of the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X is also counted on cell #X  itself. For example, at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X is counted on cell #X.

[0087] For another cell (e.g., cell #M) within cell set #1, the DCI size of a single-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2) scheduling cell #M and the BD / CCE budget of the single-cell scheduling DCI is counted on the scheduled cell. For example, at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #M is counted on cell #M.

[0088] In some embodiments, cell #X may be the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI. In these embodiments, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for both the multi-cell scheduling DCIs and the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling cell #X (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) . In some embodiments, cell #X may not be the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI. In these embodiments, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling cell #X (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) .

[0089] In some embodiments, the search spaces may be configured independently for UL and DL. For example, a UE may be configured with search space SS #A1 for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI which schedules downlink transmissions on at least one cell in cell set #1 and search space SS #B1 for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI which schedules a downlink transmission on only cell #X; and the UE may be configured with search space SS #A2 for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI which schedules uplink transmissions on at least one cell in cell set #1 and search space SS #B2 for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI which schedules an uplink transmission on only cell #X.

[0090] For example, referring to FIG. 4, a plurality of cells (e.g., including but not limited to cells 431-434 in FIG. 4) may be configured for a UE for multi-cell scheduling. That is, cell set #1 may include cells 431-434. Cell 431 may be the scheduling cell for multi-cell scheduling cell set #1. That is, a search space for monitoring the multi- cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell set #1 may be configured on cell 431. For example, DCI format 1_3 or DCI format 0_3 may be monitored on cell 431. Therefore, cell 431 is scheduling cell #A for each cell of cell set #1. For example, referring to FIG. 4, DCI 411 may be transmitted on cell 431 for scheduling a plurality of channels (e.g., channels 421-424) on cells 431-434.

[0091] Single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 434 via self-scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 434. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 434 may be configured on cell 434. For example, referring to FIG. 4, DCI 415 may be transmitted on cell 434 for scheduling channel 428 on cell 434.

[0092] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 431 via self-scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 431. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 431 may be configured on cell 431. For example, referring to FIG. 4, DCI 412 may be transmitted on cell 431 for scheduling channel 425 on cell 431.

[0093] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 432 or cell 433 via cross-cell scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 431. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 432 or cell 433 may be configured on cell 431. For example, referring to FIG. 4, DCI 413 may be transmitted on cell 431 for scheduling channel 426 on cell 432 and DCI 414 may be transmitted on cell 431 for scheduling channel 427 on cell 433.

[0094] According to the above examples, each of cell 431, cell 432 and cell 433 has a single scheduling cell, i.e., cell 431. Cell 434 has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 431 for multi-cell scheduling and cell 434 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 434 is transmitted on cell 434, which offloads the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 431 to cell 434, thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 431.

[0095] In some examples, to further reduce the PDCCH load on cell 431, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell 432 can be configured to be transmitted on cell 432. For example, instead of configuring a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 432 on cell 431, the search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 432 may be configured on cell 432. In these examples, cell 432 also has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 431 for multi-cell scheduling and cell 432 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 432 is transmitted on cell 432, which offloads the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 431 to cell 432, thereby further alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 431.

[0096] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cells 431-434. Assuming that cell 431 is the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI, then for cell 431, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for both the multi-cell scheduling DCIs and the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling cell 431 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) . For each of cells 432-434, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling each of cells 432-434 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) .

[0097] In some embodiments, from the perspective of cell #X, scheduling cell #A may be used to transmit only a multi-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell set #1. The word "only" here means that scheduling cell #A may not be used to transmit other types of DCI that can schedule cell #X, such as a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X. However, from the perspective of other cells (e.g., cell #M) in cell set #1, other types of DCI that can schedule cell #M can be transmitted on scheduling cell #A. For example, a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #M within cell set #1 may be transmitted on scheduling cell #A. In some embodiments, scheduling cell #A may or may not be included in cell set #1. From the perspective of cell #X, scheduling cell #B may be used to transmit only a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X via cross-cell scheduling. The word "only" here means that scheduling cell #B may not be used to transmit other types of DCI (e.g., a multi-cell scheduling DCI) that can schedule cell #X. In these embodiments, scheduling cell #B is not cell #X and is not scheduling cell #A. Scheduling cell #B may or may not be included in cell set #1.

[0098] From a UE's perspective, the UE may be configured to monitor a multi-cell scheduling DCI only on scheduling cell #A for scheduling at least one cell within cell set #1 within the set of cells and may be configured to monitor a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X on scheduling cell #B via cross-cell scheduling.

[0099] Compared to the scheduling scheme shown in FIG. 3, in the above embodiments, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X is transmitted on scheduling cell #B. This results in the corresponding PDCCH load being offloaded from scheduling cell #A to scheduling cell #B, thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on scheduling cell #A.

[0100] In some embodiments, cell #X may be the cell with a predefined cell index within cell set #1.

[0101] In some embodiments, depending on the configuration of the BS, any number of cells (e.g., all or some cells) within cell set #1 can be additionally scheduled by a single-cell scheduling DCI via respectively cross-cell scheduling. From a UE's perspective, the UE may be configured to monitor a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling each of one or more cells within cell set #1 on the corresponding scheduling cell #B of the one or more cells. In other words, for each of the one or more cells within cell set #1, the UE may be configured with a search space for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI, which can schedule the corresponding cell, on scheduling cell #B of the corresponding cell.

[0102] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cell set #1. For example, for each cell within cell set #1, the total number of different DCI sizes configured to be monitored is no more than 4 for the cell and the total number of different DCI sizes with C-RNTI configured to be monitored is no more than 3 for the cell.

[0103] For cell set #1, the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 and / or DCI format 1_3) is counted on a reference cell. The PDCCH BD / CCE budget of the multi-cell scheduling DCI is also counted on the reference cell.

[0104] In some embodiments, when scheduling cell #A is included in cell set #1 and the search space for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 / 1_3) is configured only on scheduling cell #A, the reference cell is scheduling cell #A.

[0105] In some embodiments, when a search space (e.g., SS #A) for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on scheduling cell #A, a search space (denoted as SS #A” ) for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is also configured on a cell (denoted as cell #A” ) within cell set #1, and SS #A” and SS #A have the same search space ID, then the reference cell is cell #A” . For example, when SS #A” for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on cell #A” within cell set #1 and has the same search space ID as SS #A on scheduling cell #A, then at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the multi-cell scheduling DCI is counted on cell #A” .

[0106] In some embodiments, it is up to the BS on which cell the search space of a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured. In some embodiments, the same reference cell is used for both the UL multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3) and the DL multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 1_3) .

[0107] For cell #X within cell set #1, the DCI size of a single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2) is counted on cell #X itself.

[0108] For another cell (e.g., cell #M) within cell set #1, the DCI size of a single-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2) scheduling cell #M and the BD / CCE budget of the single-cell scheduling DCI is counted on the scheduled cell. For example, at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #M is counted on cell #M.

[0109] In some embodiments, cell #X may be the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI.

[0110] In some embodiments, the search spaces may be configured independently for UL and DL. For example, a UE may be configured with search space SS #A1' for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI which schedules downlink transmissions on at least one cell in cell set #1 and search space SS #B1' for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI which schedules a downlink transmission on only cell #X; and the UE  may be configured with search space SS #A2' for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI which schedules uplink transmissions on at least one cell in cell set #1 and search space SS #B2' for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI which schedules an uplink transmission on only cell #X.

[0111] For example, referring to FIG. 5, a plurality of cells (e.g., including but not limited to cells 531-534 in FIG. 5) may be configured for a UE for multi-cell scheduling. That is, cell set #1 may include cells 531-534. Cell 531 may be the scheduling cell for multi-cell scheduling cell set #1. That is, a search space for monitoring the multi-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell set #1 may be configured on cell 531. For example, DCI format 1_3 or DCI format 0_3 may be monitored on cell 531. Therefore, cell 531 is scheduling cell #A for each cell of cell set #1. For example, referring to FIG. 5, DCI 511 may be transmitted on cell 531 for scheduling a plurality of channels (e.g., channels 521-524) on cells 531-534.

[0112] Single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 534 via cross-cell scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 533. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 534 may be configured on cell 533. For example, referring to FIG. 5, DCI 515 may be transmitted on cell 533 for scheduling channel 528 on cell 534.

[0113] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 531 via self-scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 531. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 531 may be configured on cell 531. For example, referring to FIG. 5, DCI 512 may be transmitted on cell 531 for scheduling channel 525 on cell 531.

[0114] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 532 or cell 533 via cross-cell scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 531. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 532 or cell 533 may be configured on cell 531. For example, referring to FIG. 5, DCI 513 may be transmitted on cell 531 for scheduling  channel 526 on cell 532 and DCI 514 may be transmitted on cell 531 for scheduling channel 527 on cell 533.

[0115] According to the above examples, each of cell 531, cell 532 and cell 533 has a single scheduling cell, i.e., cell 531. Cell 534 has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 531 for multi-cell scheduling and cell 533 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 534 is transmitted on cell 533, which offloads the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 531 to cell 533, thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 531.

[0116] In some examples, to further reduce the PDCCH load on cell 531, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell 532 can be configured to be transmitted on cell 533, cell 534 or a cell not included in cell set #1. For example, instead of configuring a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 532 on cell 531, the search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 532 may be configured on cell 533. In these examples, cell 532 also has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 531 for multi-cell scheduling and cell 533 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 532 is transmitted on cell 533, which offloads the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 531 to cell 533, thereby further alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 531.

[0117] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cells 531-534. Assuming that cell 531 is the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI, then for cell 531, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for both the multi-cell scheduling DCIs and the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling cell 531 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) . For each of cells 532-534, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling each of cells 532-534 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) .

[0118] Another example is shown in FIG. 6. Referring to FIG. 6, a plurality of cells (e.g., including but not limited to cells 631-634 in FIG. 6) may be configured for a UE for multi-cell scheduling. That is, cell set #1 may include cells 631-634. Cell 616 is not included in cell set #1. Cell 631 may be the scheduling cell for multi-cell  scheduling cell set #1. That is, a search space for monitoring the multi-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell set #1 may be configured on cell 631. For example, DCI format 1_3 or DCI format 0_3 may be monitored on cell 631. Therefore, cell 631 is scheduling cell #A for each cell of cell set #1. For example, referring to FIG. 6, DCI 611 may be transmitted on cell 631 for scheduling a plurality of channels (e.g., channels 621-624) on cells 631-634.

[0119] Single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 634 via cross-cell scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 635. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 634 may be configured on cell 635. For example, referring to FIG. 6, DCI 615 may be transmitted on cell 635 for scheduling channel 628 on cell 634.

[0120] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 631 via self-scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 631. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 631 may be configured on cell 631. For example, referring to FIG. 6, DCI 612 may be transmitted on cell 631 for scheduling channel 625 on cell 631.

[0121] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 632 or cell 633 via cross-cell scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 631. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 632 or cell 633 may be configured on cell 631. For example, referring to FIG. 6, DCI 613 may be transmitted on cell 631 for scheduling channel 626 on cell 632 and DCI 614 may be transmitted on cell 631 for scheduling channel 627 on cell 633.

[0122] According to the above examples, each of cell 631, cell 632 and cell 633 has a single scheduling cell, i.e., cell 631. Cell 634 has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 631 for multi-cell scheduling and cell 635 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 634 is transmitted on cell 635, which offloads the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 631 to cell 635,  thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 631.

[0123] In some examples, to further reduce the PDCCH load on cell 631, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell 632 can be configured to be transmitted on cell 633, cell 634 or cell 635. For example, instead of configuring a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 632 on cell 631, the search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 632 may be configured on cell 635. In these examples, cell 632 also has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 631 for multi-cell scheduling and cell 635 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 632 is transmitted on cell 635, which offloads the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 631 to cell 635, thereby further alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 631.

[0124] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cells 631-634. Assuming that cell 631 is the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI, then for cell 631, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for both the multi-cell scheduling DCIs and the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling cell 631 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) . For each of cells 632-634, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling each of cells 632-634 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) .

[0125] In some embodiments, from the perspective of cell #X, scheduling cell #A may be used to transmit both a multi-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell set #1 and a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X (e.g., via cross-cell scheduling) . From the perspective of other cells (e.g., cell #M) in cell set #1, DCIs that can schedule cell #M can also be transmitted on scheduling cell #A. For example, a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #M within cell set #1 may be transmitted on scheduling cell #A. In some embodiments, scheduling cell #A may or may not be included in cell set #1. From the perspective of cell #X, scheduling cell #B may be used to transmit only a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X via either self-scheduling or cross-cell scheduling. The word "only" here means that scheduling cell #B may not be used to transmit other types of DCI (e.g., a multi-cell scheduling DCI) that can schedule cell #X. In the case of self-scheduling is adopted, scheduling cell  #B is cell #X. In the case of cross-cell scheduling is adopted, scheduling cell #B is not cell #X and is not scheduling cell #A; and scheduling cell #B may or may not be included in cell set #1.

[0126] From a UE's perspective, the UE may be configured to monitor a multi-cell scheduling DCI only on scheduling cell #A for scheduling at least one cell within cell set #1 within the set of cells and may be configured to monitor a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X on scheduling cell #B via self-scheduling or cross-cell scheduling or on scheduling cell #A via cross-cell scheduling.

[0127] Compared to the scheduling scheme shown in FIG. 3, in the above embodiments, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X can be transmitted on either scheduling cell #B or scheduling cell #A. When the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell #X is transmitted on scheduling cell #B, the corresponding PDCCH load is offloaded from scheduling cell #A to scheduling cell #B, thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on scheduling cell #A. This scheduling scheme is more flexible than the one depicted in FIG. 4.

[0128] In some embodiments, cell #X may be the cell with a predefined cell index within cell set #1.

[0129] In some embodiments, depending on the configuration of the BS, any number of cells (e.g., all or some cells) within cell set #1 can be additionally scheduled by a single-cell scheduling DCI via respectively self-scheduling or via cross-carrier  scheduling from scheduling cell #A or scheduling cell #B. From a UE's perspective, the UE may be configured to monitor a single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling each of one or more cells within cell set #1 on the cell itself, on scheduling cell #B or on scheduling cell #A. In other words, for each of the one or more cells within cell set #1, the UE may be configured with a search space for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI, which can schedule the corresponding cell, on the cell itself, on scheduling cell #B or on scheduling cell #A.

[0130] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cell set #1. For example, for each cell within cell set #1, the total number of different DCI sizes configured to be monitored is no more than 4 for the cell and the total number of different DCI sizes with C-RNTI configured to be monitored is no more than 3 for the cell.

[0131] For cell set #1, the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 and / or DCI format 1_3) is counted on a reference cell. The PDCCH BD / CCE budget of the multi-cell scheduling DCI is also counted on the reference cell.

[0132] In some embodiments, when scheduling cell #A is included in cell set #1 and the search space for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3 / 1_3) is configured only on scheduling cell #A, the reference cell is scheduling cell #A.

[0133] In some embodiments, when a search space (e.g., SS #A) for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on scheduling cell #A, a search space (denoted  as SS #A”') for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is also configured on a cell (denoted as cell #A”') within cell set #1, and SS #A”' and SS #A have the same search space ID, the reference cell is cell #A”'. For example, when SS #A”' for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured on cell #A”' within cell set #1 and has the same search space ID as SS #A on scheduling cell #A, then at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the multi-cell scheduling DCI is counted on cell #A”'.

[0134] In some embodiments, it is up to the BS on which cell the search space of a multi-cell scheduling DCI is configured. In some embodiments, the same reference cell is used for both the UL multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_3) and the DL multi-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 1_3) .

[0135] For cell #X within cell set #1, the DCI size of a single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2) is counted on cell #X itself. The BD / CCE budget of the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X is also counted on cell #X itself. Regardless of whether the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X is transmitted on scheduling cell #B or scheduling cell #A, the DCI size and BD / CCE budget of this DCI is counted on cell #X. For example, at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #X is counted on cell #X.

[0136] For another cell (e.g., cell #M) within cell set #1, the DCI size of a single-cell scheduling DCI (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 or DCI format 1_2) scheduling cell #M and the BD / CCE budget of the single-cell scheduling DCI is counted on the scheduled cell. For example, at least one of the DCI size, the number of PDCCH candidates, or the number of CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCI scheduling cell #M is counted on cell #M.

[0137] In some embodiments, cell #X may be the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI.

[0138] In some embodiments, the search spaces may be configured independently for UL and DL. For example, a UE may be configured with search space SS #A1” for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI which schedules downlink transmissions on at least one cell in cell set #1 and search space SS #B1” for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI which schedules a downlink transmission on only cell #X; and the UE may be configured with search space SS #A2” for monitoring a multi-cell scheduling DCI which schedules uplink transmissions on at least one cell in cell set #1 and search space SS #B2” for monitoring a single-cell scheduling DCI which schedules an uplink transmission on only cell #X.

[0139] For example, referring to FIG. 7, a plurality of cells (e.g., including but not limited to cells 731-734 in FIG. 7) may be configured for a UE for multi-cell scheduling. That is, cell set #1 may include cells 731-734. Cell 731 may be the scheduling cell for multi-cell scheduling cell set #1. That is, a search space for monitoring the multi-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell set #1 may be configured on cell 731. For example, DCI format 1_3 or DCI format 0_3 may be monitored on cell 731. Therefore, cell 731 is scheduling cell #A for each cell of cell set #1. For example, referring to FIG. 7, DCI 711 may be transmitted on cell 731 for scheduling a plurality of channels (e.g., channels 721-724) on cells 731-734.

[0140] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 731 via self-scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 731. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 731 may be configured on cell 731. For example, referring to FIG. 7, DCI 712 may be transmitted on cell 731 for scheduling channel 725 on cell 731.

[0141] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 732, cell 733, or cell 734 via cross-cell scheduling can be  additionally configured on cell 731. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 732, cell 733, or cell 734 may be configured on cell 731. For example, referring to FIG. 7, DCI 713 may be transmitted on cell 731 for scheduling channel 726 on cell 732, DCI 714 may be transmitted on cell 731 for scheduling channel 727 on cell 733, and DCI 715 may be transmitted on cell 731 for scheduling channel 729 on cell 734.

[0142] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 734 via self-scheduling can be additionally configured on cell 734. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 734 may be configured on cell 734. For example, referring to FIG. 7, DCI 716 may be transmitted on cell 734 for scheduling channel 728 on cell 734.

[0143] In some examples, single-cell scheduling DCIs (e.g., DCI format 0_0, DCI format 1_0, DCI format 0_1, DCI format 1_1, DCI format 0_2 and / or DCI format 1_2) which can schedule cell 734 via cross-carrier scheduling can be additionally configured on a cell different from cell 734, e.g., cell 732, cell 733 or a cell not included in cell set #1. That is, a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 734 may be configured on cell 732, cell 733 or a cell not included in cell set #1. For example, a DCI may be transmitted on cell 733 for scheduling a channel on cell 734.

[0144] According to the above examples, each of cell 731, cell 732 and cell 733 has a single scheduling cell, i.e., cell 731. Cell 734 has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 731 for both multi-cell scheduling and single-cell scheduling and cell 734 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 734 can be transmitted on a cell different from cell 731 (e.g., cell 734) , which can offload the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 731 to another cell, thereby alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 731.

[0145] In some examples, to further reduce the PDCCH load on cell 731, the single-cell scheduling DCI for scheduling cell 732 can be configured to be transmitted on cell 732. For example, in addition to configuring a search space for monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 732 on cell 731, the search space for  monitoring the single-cell scheduling DCI which can schedule cell 732 may also be configured on cell 732. In these examples, cell 732 also has two scheduling cells, i.e., cell 731 for both multi-cell scheduling and single-cell scheduling and cell 732 for single-cell scheduling. In this way, the PDCCH carrying the single-cell scheduling DCIs for scheduling cell 732 can be transmitted on cell 732, which can offload the corresponding PDCCH load from cell 731 to cell 732, thereby further alleviating the PDCCH load on cell 731.

[0146] The existing DCI size budget (e.g., 3+1 budget) is maintained on each cell of cells 731-734. Assuming that cell 731 is the reference cell for counting the DCI size of a multi-cell scheduling DCI, then for cell 731, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for both the multi-cell scheduling DCIs and the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling cell 731 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) . For each of cells 732-734, the total number of configured BD / CCEs for the single-cell scheduling DCIs scheduling each of cells 732-734 (if configured) does not exceed the predefined limits (e.g., 3GPP Release-18 limits) .
