Techniques for transmitting signals on shared resources in a manner to detect and / or combat collision are described. In an aspect, a terminal may transmit a signal on a subset of resource elements in a resource block, and at least one null resource element with no signal may be used to detect for collision of the signal. In another aspect, different terminals may simultaneously transmit their signals on different subsets of resource elements in a resource block. These different subsets of resource elements may be pseudo-randomly selected to randomize interference. In one design, a terminal may determine a resource block to use for transmission of a signal, select a subset of the resource elements in the resource block, and transmit the signal on the selected resource elements, e.g., to at least one other terminal for peer-to-peer communication. The signal may be a peer discovery signal, a paging signal, etc.

Method for mapping physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel

A method for mapping a physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel (PHICH) is described. The method for mapping a PHICH includes determining an index of a resource element group transmitting a repetitive pattern of the PHICH, according to a ratio of the number of available resource element groups in a symbol in which the PHICH is transmitted and the number of available resource element groups in a first or second OFDM symbol, and mapping the PHICH to the symbol according to the determined index. In transmitting the PHICH, since efficient mapping is performed considering available resource elements varying with OFDM symbols, repetition of the PHICH does not generate interference between neighbor cell IDs and performance is improved.

Mapping of control information to control channel elements

The invention relates to a new structure of a control channel region within a sub-frame of a 3GPP-based based communication system using OFDM in the downlink. This new structure of a control channel region is inter alia particularly suitable for conveying physical downlink control channel information from a donor eNodeB to a relay node. The control channel region is divided in CCEs that have equal size irrespective of the presence of further cell-specific and / or UE-specific reference signals within the control channel region. This is achieved by dividing the control channel region in plural sub-CCEs that are combined to CCEs all having equal size (in terms of resource elements that can be used for the signaling of control information). The control channel region is divided in the frequency domain and / or time domain in a FDM respectively TDM fashion in order to obtain the sub-CCEs

Methods and systems for csi-rs transmission in lte-advance systems

A method of allocating resource elements in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system for transmission of a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) is disclosed. The method includes converting resource elements to a two-dimensional frequency-time domain. The converted resource elements can then be partitioned to units of a physical resource block (PRB), which can be one subframe, for example. It can be determined whether a portion of a PRB is being used by another signal; and if the portion of the PRB is not being used, it can be allocated for transmission of the CSI-RS. The CSI-RS can be transmitted at resource element locations determined by the resource elements available to the CSI-RS in a regular or a frequency-division duplexing (FDD) downlink subframe, for example. The CSI-RS can be transmitted in a downlink subframe configured as a Multi-Media Broadcast over a Single Frequency Network (MBSFN) or a non-MBSFN subframe.

Here, the Walsh code spreading or covering by the processor is applied on a frequency axis on the basis of a plurality of resource blocks (RBs) or on the basis of a pair of resource blocks, such that mutually different sequences having mutually different sequence values can be mapped between resource blocks or between pairs of resource blocks. A transmission module transmits the reference signal, to which the thus-generated reference signal sequence is applied, to user equipment via each layer.

System and method for communicating using bandwidth on demand

A system and method for dynamically changing the quality of service (QoS) for a subscriber of a cellular radio system. Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) enables the subscriber to dynamically switch to higher bandwidth and to enable a higher throughput. This may be for a limited time or amount of data, for example. The initiation may be by the subscriber, carrier, sponsor, or automatically by an application. The QoS increase may be dynamically priced in a kind of auction. The wireless device may contact the policy servers of a multiple network operator (MNO), which in turn contacts the Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server in the MNO's core network. The policy server contacts the scheduler on the serving basestation which then determines whether to allocate more resources (i.e. bandwidth in the form of subcarriers, resource blocks, resource elements, timeslots) to the subscriber. The initiation may start a timer or data counter.
