[0045] Reference now will be made to embodiments of the disclosure, one or more examples of which are illustrated in the drawings. Each example is provided by way of explanation of the disclosure and is not intended to limit the disclosure. In fact, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made to the disclosure without departing from the scope or spirit of the disclosure. For instance, features illustrated or described as part of one embodiment can be used with another embodiment to yield a still further embodiment. Thus, it is intended that the disclosure covers such modifications and variations as come within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents.

[0046] Terms used herein are used to describe the example embodiments and are not intended to limit and / or restrict the disclosure. The singular forms “a.” "an” and ‘"the7’ are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. In this disclosure, terms such as "including", "having", “comprising”, and the like are used to specify features, numbers, steps, operations, elements, components, or combinations thereof, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more of the features, elements, steps, operations, elements, components, or combinations thereof.

[0047] It will be understood that, although the terms first, second, third, etc., may be used herein to describe various elements, the elements are not limited by these terms.Instead, these terms are used to distinguish one element from another element. For example, without departing from the scope of the disclosure, a first element may be termed as a second element, and a second element may be termed as a first element.

[0048] The term "and / or" includes a combination of a plurality of related listed items or any item of the plurality of related listed items. For example, the scope of the expression or phrase "A and / or B" includes the item "A", the item "B", and the combination of items "A and B”.

[0049] In addition, the scope of the expression or phrase "at least one of A or B" is intended to include all of the following: (1) at least one of A, (2) at least one of B, and (3) atleast one of A and at least one of B. Likewise, the scope of the expression or phrase "at least one of A. B, or C" is intended to include all of the following: (1) at least one of A, (2) at least one of B, (3) at least one of C, (4) at least one of A and at least one of B, (5) at least one of A and at least one of C, (6) at least one of B and at least one of C, and (7) at least one of A, at least one of B, and at least one of C.

[0050] Example aspects of the disclosure are directed to a computing device, for example, a wearable computing device, that can be used to transmit biometric information to a second computing device (external computing device) via a biometric background service. For example, using a simple gesture via the wearable computing device (e.g., a tap gesture), biometric information associated with a user of the wearable computing device can be cast to a nearby device (the second computing device) which is running the biometric background service.

[0051] As an example implementation, a user may invoke a gesture (provide an input) to the wearable computing device. For example, the gesture may include a press-and-hold gesture. The particular gesture may be a default gesture set by a manufacturer or configurable by a user of the wearable computing device (e g., in an accompanying application that is configured to allow settings to be set for the wearable computing device).

[0052] In response to the wearable computing device receiving the gesture, the wearable computing device may be configured to transmit a first communication (a message) via a wireless communications technology' (e.g., BLUETOOTH, UWB (Ultra-Wideband), ultrasound. NFC (Near Field Communication), etc.) to one or more external computing devices which are executing the biometric background service. The biometric background service may run as part of an application (e.g., a browser application) or as part of an operating system of the external computing device.

[0053] Each external computing device executing the biometric background service which receives the first communication may be configured to transmit a second communication to the wearable computing device. The second communication may include an acknowledgment of receiving the first communication and may include information advertising the availability of the external computing device and distance information from the wearable computing device (e.g., signal-strength information, time-of-flight information, etc.).

[0054] The wearable computing device may be configured to wait a certain threshold of time (e.g., an advertisement period) for receiving second communications from externalcomputing devices. After the advertisement period, the wearable computing device may be configured to transmit a third communication to a particular external computing device, for example, according to a ranking algorithm. In some implementations, the wearable computing device may transmit the third communication to the nearest available external computing device. The third communication may include user information associated with the user of the wearable computing device, device information associated with the wearable computing device (e.g., device name, battery status, battery health, sensor status, current sensor read-outs, etc.), and / or biometric information associated with the user (e.g., current and / or historical heart rate information, blood pressure information, stress scores, activity scores, etc.). The biometric information may either be collected and stored by the wearable computing device itself, or be synced from a nearby smartphone application at a prior time.

[0055] In some implementations, the user information, device information, and / or biometric information may be transmitted in the third communication if the authentication operation is successfully completed. The authentication operation may include the exchange of encryption tokens / keys to provide end-to-end encryption and protect user data. In some implementations, the authentication operation may be performed only if the user maintains the input to the wearable computing device and / or if the user wears the wearable computing device. If the user releases the input and / or takes off the wearable computing device, the authentication operation may be terminated.

[0056] The wearable computing device may be configured to select the external computing device based on distance information or another appropriate ranking algorithm. The biometric background sendee of the selected external computing device may be configured to render an output appropriately in a user interface and / or via an output to a speaker. For example, an output to a display device may include an ephemeral floating user interface element which may contain a user’s avatar, a user’s name, device name, device battery status, current and historical biometric information, etc. For example, an output to an audio device (e.g., a speaker) may include an audio message rendered as an audio waveform which includes a user's name, device name, device battery status, current and historical biometric information, etc.

[0057] In some implementations, when the third communication includes the biometric information and at least one of the user information and the device information, the external computing device may be configured to first display the at least one of the user information and device information, and then selectively display the biometric information after a predetermined duration of time. For example, if the user maintains the input to the inputdevice at the wearable computing device for the predetermined duration of time after the at least one of the user information and device information is displayed, the external computing device may be configured to output (e.g., display) the biometric information. For example, if the user does not maintain the input to the input device at the wearable computing device for the predetermined duration of time after the at least one of the user information and device information is output, the external computing device may be configured to stop outputting (e.g.. displaying) the at least one of the user information and device information and delete the biometric information without the biometric information being output. The at least one of the user information and device information may also be deleted.

[0058] In some implementations, when the third communication includes at least one of the user information and the device information and not the biometric information, the external computing device may be configured to first display the at least one of the user information and device information, and then selectively receive the biometric information from the wearable computing device in a fourth communication transmitted by the wearable computing device after a predetermined duration of time. For example, if the user maintains the input to the input device at the wearable computing device for the predetermined duration of time after the third communication is transmitted, the wearable computing device may be configured to transmit the fourth communication including the biometric information to the external computing device. For example, if the user does not maintain the input to the input device at the wearable computing device for the predetermined duration of time after the third communication is transmitted, the external computing device may be configured to stop displaying the at least one of the user information and device information without the biometric information being transmitted from the wearable computing device to the external computing device.

[0059] After interruption or completion of the input to the wearable computing device, the rendered output will disappear or terminate immediately. In some implementations, data associated with the user information associated with the user of the wearable computing device, device information associated with the wearable computing device, and / or biometric information associated with the user may be deleted at the external computing device in response to the input to the wearable computing device being interrupted or released.

[0060] Example aspects of the disclosure provide several technical effects, benefits, and / or improvements in computing technology' and the technology of computing devices and health monitoring devices. For example, according to one or more examples of the disclosure, biometric measurements obtained by a first computing device can be output at asecond computing device via a biometric background service, without a user having to perform a pairing operation with an intermediary computing device, thereby saving computing resources (e.g., processing power) and networking resources (e.g., bandwidth).

[0061] In addition, according to one or more examples of the disclosure, second computing devices can be ranked based on status information so that an optimal second computing device can be selected for outputting user information, first computing device information, and biometric information of a user, thereby saving computing resources (e.g., processing power) and networking resources (e.g., bandwidth) by selecting an appropriate second computing device and avoiding the re-transmission of data.

[0062] In addition, according to one or more examples of the disclosure, a visual indicator and / or sound indicator can be output by the second computing device so that a user can confirm the second computing device which is to display the biometric information, thereby improving the security and privacy of the biometric information, and saving computing resources (e.g., processing power) and networking resources (e.g., bandwidth) byselecting an appropriate second computing device and avoiding the re-transmission of data.

[0063] According to examples of the disclosure, biometric information can be output at a second computing device where the first computing device does not have the ability to display the biometric information and / or output the biometric information via a speaker.Further, the second computing device can present the biometric information in a manner (e.g.. a particular format, a particular size) which the first computing device cannot, thereby improving the visibility of such information as well as user experience.

[0064] Therefore, aspects of the disclosure provide the technical effect, benefit, and / or improvements in computing technology and the technology of computing devices and health monitoring devices by accurately collecting and providing biometric information associated with a user through reducing the need for user interactions, inputs, and transmissions of communications or data.

[0065] Referring now to the drawings, FIGS. 1 A-l D are example block diagrams of biometric information systems, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. Further, in some embodiments, the user can be provided with a tool (e.g., in a biometric application or via a user account) to revoke or modify the scope of permissions. In addition, certain information or data can be treated in one or more ways before it is stored or used, so that personally identifiable information is removed or stored in an encrypted fashion. Thus, particular user information may or may not be accessible to the first computing device 100, server computing system 300, and / or second computing device 400 based on permissions given by the user, or such data may not be stored at all.

[0098] Referring to FIG. IB, an example block diagram of a biometric information system is illustrated, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIG. IB illustratestwo example processes by which biometric information can be transmitted from the first computing device 100 to the second computing device 400. to be output by the second computing device 400.

[0099] In a first process, at operation Al the first computing device 100 may be configured to connect to the external computing device 500 (e.g., a smartphone). For example, the first computing device 100 may be configured to connect to the external computing device 500 via a pairing process and perform a synchronization process with a biometric application 530 of the external computing device 500 to transmit biometric information associated with the user of the first computing device 100 to the external computing device 500 (e.g., to the biometric application 530). The biometric application 530 can include any biometric application which can be used for receiving biometric information, transmitting biometric information, storing biometric information, etc.

[0100] At operation A2 the external computing device 500 may be configured to connect to the server computing system 300 to transmit the biometric information from the external computing device 500 (e.g., from the biometric application 530) to the server computing system 300 (e.g., the biometric application 330). For example, the user may access the biometric application 530 of the external computing device 500 and connect to the server computing system 300 (e.g., via a biometric application portal, browser application, etc.).

[0101] At operation A3 the server computing system 300 (e.g., the biometric application 330) may be configured to connect to the second computing device 400 to transmit the biometric information from the server computing system 300 (e.g., from the biometric application 330) to the second computing device 400 (e.g., the biometric application 430). The second computing device 400 may be configured to output the biometric information (e.g., via the output device 460).

[0102] In a second process, at operation Bl the first computing device 100 may be configured to directly connect to the second computing device 400 via the biometric background service 432. For example, the first computing device 100 may be configured to receive an input (gesture) from a user (e.g., via an input interaction element 142 of an input device 140). For example, the input may include an invocation gesture (e.g., tap. double tap, press-hold, etc.). In response to receiving the input, the first computing device 100 may be configured to exchange communications with the biometric background service 432 associated with the second computing device 400 (e.g., an external computing device) andconnect to the second computing device 400. For example, the communications may include a first communication from the first computing device 100 to the biometric background service 432. In response to receiving the first communication, the second computing device 400 may be configured to transmit a second communication to the first computing device 100. The second communication may include an acknowledgement of receiving the first communication, status information indicating an availability of the second computing device 400 (e.g.. available bandwidth, channel utilization information, etc.), status information indicating distance information of the second computing device 400 to the first computing device 100 (e.g., signal strength information, time-of-flight information, etc.), status information indicating a state of the second computing device 400 (e.g., whether the second computing device 400 is currently in use, is displaying content, is outputting content through a speaker, etc.), or other status information.

[0103] In some implementations, the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 may be configured to perform an authentication operation in connection with the first computing device 100 connecting to the second computing device 400. For example, in some implementations an authentication operation may occur in response to, or in conjunction with, the first computing device 100 receiving the second communication from the second computing device 400. For example, an authentication operation between the first computing device 100 and the biometric background service 432 of the second computing device 400 can help maintain the security and integrity7of communications between the first computing device 100 and the biometric background service 432. In some implementations, the authentication operation can include information such as credentials, tokens, or other proof of identity. For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may store a private key and the second computing device 400 may store a public key for encrypting information transmitted from the first computing device 100 to the second computing device 400.

[0104] In some implementations, after connecting to the second computing device 400, the first computing device 100 may be configured to transmit at least one of device information associated with the first computing device 100 or user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100. The at least one of device information associated with the first computing device 100 or user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100 may be output by the second computing device 400 (e.g.. via a display device, a speaker, etc.). In some implementations, the user information may beprovided for presentation on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 via an application presentation layer 434 and may include an avatar of the user, a name of the user, etc. In some implementations, the device information may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 and may include a device name of the first computing device 100, device battery' status of the first computing device 100, etc. The application presentation layer 434 may be configured to communicate with the biometric background service 432 to retrieve and send data, for example, via data interface 436. For example, the application presentation layer 434 may be configured to receive data (e.g., at least one of device information associated with the first computing device 100 or user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100) from the biometric background service 432 and format (render) the data for display via the display device 450.

[0105] In some implementations, after the at least one of device information associated wi th the first computing device 100 or user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100 is transmitted to the second computing device 400, the first computing device 100 may be configured to transmit biometric information associated with the user of the first computing device 100 to the second computing device 400. The biometric information associated with the user of the first computing device 100 may include biometrics associated with an ECG, PPG, heart rate, pulse information, BMI, heart rate variability, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, body temperature, sleep quality, physical activities (e.g., number of steps walked), and the like. The biometric information may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 via the application presentation layer 434 and data interface 436 as described herein.

[0106] In contrast to the first process, in the second process a pairing operation between the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 is not required and synchronization between devices is not required. Further, network resources may be conserved as less communications between devices are needed to transmit the biometric information.

[0107] Referring to FIG. 1C, an example block diagram of a biometric application is shown, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIG. 1C illustrates that the biometric application 130 can include an input determiner 132, an elapsed time determiner 133, a distance determiner 134, a ranking determiner 135, an authentication determiner 136, and a receiver I transmitter 137. However, the biometric application 130 may include fewer or more features than that shown in FIG. 1C. For example, features or operations of thecomponents of the biometric application 130 may be provided separately from the biometric application 130. For example, some operations (such as the determination of distances to one or more external computing devices) may instead be performed by another application of the first computing device 100.

[0018] Referring to FIG. 1 D, an example block diagram of a biometric application is shown, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIG. ID illustrates that the biometric application 430 can include the biometric background service 432, the application presentation layer 434. authentication determiner 438, and a receiver / transmitter 439. However, the biometric application 430 may include fewer or more features than that shown in FIG. ID. For example, features or operations of the components of the biometric application 430 may be provided separately from the biometric application 430. For example, some operations (such as authentication operations) may instead be performed by another application of the first computing device 100.

[0109] Operations of the biometric application 130 and biometric application 430 will now be described in more detail with reference to FIGS. 1C through 7.

[0110] FIGS. 3A-3C are example illustrations of a flow diagram for outputting biometric information associated with a user of a wearable computing device at a computing device having an output device, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIGS. 4A-4C are example illustrations of another flow' diagram for outputting biometric information associated with a user of a wearable computing device at a computing device having an output device, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIG. 5 is an illustration of an example embodiment for outputting biometric information associated with a plurality of users of a plurality of w earable computing devices at a computing device having an output device, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIG. 6 is a flow diagram of an example, non-limiting computer-implemented method according to one or more examples of the disclosure. FIG. 7 is a flow diagram of an example, non-limiting computer-implemented method according to one or more examples of the disclosure.

[0111] The flow diagram of FIG. 6 illustrates a method 6000 for transmitting biometric information of a user from a first computing device to a second computing device via a biometric background service. Although shown in a particular sequence or order, unless otherwise specified, the order of the processes can be modified. Thus, the illustrated embodiments should be understood only as examples, and the illustrated processes can beperformed in a different order, and some processes can be performed in parallel.Additionally, one or more processes can be omitted in various embodiments. Thus, not all processes are required in even' embodiment. Other process flows are possible.

[0112] At operation 6010, the method 6000 includes receiving an input to an input device. For example, the input determiner 132 may be configured to determine that an input to the input device 140 is received. For example, the input may include an invocation gesture (e.g., tap, double tap, press-hold, etc.). The input may include the depression or activation of a physical button or capacitive button, an input to a fingerprint sensor, a motion gesture measured via an accelerometer, and the like.

[0113] At operation 6020, the method 6000 includes, in response to the input device 140 receiving the input (e.g., as determined by the input determiner 132), transmitting a first communication to a respective biometric background service associated with each of one or more external computing devices (e.g., a plurality of second computing devices). For example, the receiver / transmitter 137 may be configured to transmit the first communication to the second computing device 400 (e.g., automatically in response to the input device 140 receiving the input). In some implementations, the first communication may be transmitted wirelessly (e.g., via BLUETOOTH, NFC, ultrasound, UWB, etc.).

[0114] At operation 6030, the method 6000 includes, receiving a second communication from the one or more external computing devices indicating status infonnation associated with each respective external computing device among the one or more external computing devices. For example, the receiver / transmitter 137 may be configured to receive the second communication from one or more second computing devices. In some implementations, the second communication may be received wirelessly from the one or more second computing devices (e.g.. via BLUETOOTH, NFC, ultrasound, UWB, etc.). For example, the second communication may include an acknowledgement of receiving the first communication, status information indicating an availability of the second computing device 400 (e.g., available bandwidth, channel utilization information, etc.), status information indicating distance information of the second computing device 400 to the first computing device 100 (e.g.. signal strength information, time-of-flight information, etc.), status information indicating a state of the second computing device 400 (e.g., w hether the second computing device 400 is currently in use, is displaying content, is outputting content through a speaker, etc.), or other status information (e.g., device capabilities of the second computing device 400 such as display screen resolution, display screen size, available display space, etc.).

[0115] In some implementations, when the first communication is received by a plurality of second computing devices, the first computing device 100 may receive a second communication from each of the plurality of second computing devices. The first computing device 100 (e.g., the biometric application 130) may be configured to determine one of the plurality7of second computing devices to connect to based on the information (e.g., status information) included in the second communication received from each of the plurality7of second computing devices.

[0116] For example, the second communication may include status information including distance information associated with a second computing device to the first computing device 100 (e.g., signal strength information, time-of-flight information, etc.). The distance determiner 134 may be configured to determine a distance to the second computing device based on the distance information. The ranking determiner 135 may be configured to rank each of the plurality of second computing devices based on the respective distances to each of the plurality of second computing devices. For example, the biometric application 130 may be configured to identity7, as the second computing device 400 to connect to, one of the plurality of second computing devices having the shortest distance to the first computing device 100 based on the distance information.

[0117] For example, the second communication may include status information indicating an availability of each of the second computing devices (e.g., available bandwidth, channel utilization information, etc ), status information indicating a state of each of the second computing devices (e.g., whether a second computing device is currently in use, is displaying content, is outputting content through a speaker, etc.), or other status information (e.g., whether the second computing device is a private device or shared device).

[0118] In some implementations, the ranking determiner 135 may be configured to rank each of the plurality of second computing devices based on whether a respective second computing device is a private device associated with the user of the first computing device 100 or is a shared device associated with a plurality7of users, wherein a private device is prioritized over a shared device. In some implementations, whether a second computing device is a private device or shared device may be indicated by the status information included in the second communication. In some implementations, whether the second computing device is a private device or shared device may be indicated by the second computing device information 1240 which is received by the biometric application 130 separately from the second communication. For example, the biometric application 130 maybe configured to select, based on the ranking, a highest ranked second computing device among the plurality’ of second computing devices as the second computing device 400 to connect to.

[0119] In some implementations, the ranking determiner 135 may be configured to rank each of the plurality of second computing devices based on a history of past usage of each second computing device by the user of the first computing device 100, wherein a second computing device having a higher past usage is prioritized over another second computing device having a lower past usage. In some implementations, a history of past usage for a second computing device may be indicated by the status information included in the second communication. In some implementations, the history of past usage of a second computing device may be indicated by the second computing device information 1240 and / or user history information 1220 which is received by the biometric application 130 separately from the second communicarion. For example, the biometric application 130 may be configured to select, based on the ranking, a highest ranked second computing device among the plurality of second computing devices as the second computing device 400 to connect to.

[0120] In some implementations, the ranking determiner 135 may be configured to rank each of the plurality of second computing devices based on whether a respective second computing device is currently in use to output information, wherein a second computing device which is not currently in use to output information is prioritized over another second computing device which is currently in use to output information. In some implementations, whether a second computing device is currently in use may be indicated by the status information included in the second communication. In some implementations, whether the second computing device is currently in use may be indicated by the second computing device information 1240 which is received by the biometric application 130 separately from the second communication. For example, a second computing device may be considered to be in use if it is currently display ing information, if it is currently outputting information via a speaker, if content of an emergency nature is being output, etc. For example, the biometric application 130 may be configured to select, based on the ranking, a highest ranked second computing device among the plurality of second computing devices as the second computing device 400 to connect to.

[0121] In some implementations, the ranking determiner 135 may be configured to rank each of the plurality of second computing devices based on whether a respective second computing device is registered to an account associated with the user of the first computingdevice 100, wherein a second computing device which is registered to the account associated with the user is prioritized over another second computing device which is not registered to the account associated with the user. In some implementations, whether a second computing device is registered to an account associated with the user of the first computing device 100 may be indicated by the status information included in the second communication. In some implementations, whether the second computing device is registered to an account associated with the user of the first computing device 100 may be indicated by the second computing device information 1240 which is received by the biometric application 130 separately from the second communication. For example, the biometric application 130 may be configured to select, based on the ranking, a highest ranked second computing device among the plurality of second computing devices as the second computing device 400 to connect to.

[0122] In some implementations, the ranking determiner 135 may be configured to w eight a plurality of different status information to determine a highest ranked second computing device among the plurality of second computing devices as the second computing device 400 to connect to. For example, the first computing device 100 may be configured to connect to a second computing device which is more distant than another second computing device but is a private device rather than a shared device.

[0123] In some implementations, the ranking determiner 135 may be configured to determine a highest ranked second computing device among the plurality of second computing devices as the second computing device 400 to connect to, based on historical ranking information associated with the second computing devices within a predetermined duration of time (e g., within the last seven days, the last month, etc.).

[0124] At operation 6040, the method 6000 includes, based on the status information and whether the input to the input device is maintained, connecting to a second computing device among the one or more second computing devices. For example, the status information may be used to rank second computing devices as described herein for determining the second computing device 400 to connect to. In some implementations, the input at operation 6010 to the input device 140 must be maintained for the connection to the second computing device 400 to occur. In some implementations, if the input to the input device 140 is interrupted the method 6000 may end.

[0125] In some implementations, the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 may be configured to perform an authentication operation in connection with thefirst computing device 100 connecting to the second computing device 400 (e.g., the highest ranked second computing device 400 when the first computing device 100 ranks a plurality of second computing devices). For example, in some implementations the authentication determiner 136 may be configured to perform an authentication operation in response to, or in conjunction with, the first computing device 100 receiving the second communication from the second computing device 400. For example, an authentication operation between the first computing device 100 and the biometric background service 432 of the second computing device 400 can help maintain the security and integrity of communications between the first computing device 100 and the biometric background service 432. In some implementations, the authentication operation can include information such as credentials, tokens, or other proof of identity. For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may store a private key and the second computing device 400 may store a public key for encry pting information (e.g., user information, first computing device 100 information, biometric information, etc.) which is transmitted from the first computing device 100 to the second computing device 400.

[0126] For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may be configured to terminate the authentication operation if the input to the input device 140 is not maintained. For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may be configured to not begin the authentication operation if the input to the input device 140 is not maintained. For example, the biometric application 130 (authentication determiner 136 and / or input determiner 132) may determine whether the input to the input device 140 is maintained before and during performance of the authentication operation.

[0127] For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may be configured to terminate the authentication operation if the first computing device 100 is not worn by the user. For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may be configured to not begin the authentication operation if the first computing device 100 is not worn by the user. For example, the biometric application 130 (authentication determiner 136) may determine based on sensor information 1250 whether the user is wearing the first computing device 100 (e.g., based on optical signals from PPG sensors, based on force sensors, etc.).

[0128] At operation 6050, the method 6000 includes after connecting to the second computing device 400, transmitting a third communication to the second computing device 400, the third communication including biometric information 137c associated with a user ofthe first computing device 100. The biometric application 130 may be configured to receive biometric information 1210 which is obtained, for example, via the one or more biometric measurement devices 184 which can include a pulse oximeter, heart rate monitor, blood pressure monitor, electrodermal activity7sensor, glucometer, body temperature monitor, sleep tracker, electrocardiogram devices, and the like. The biometric information 137c (which may correspond to the biometric information 1210) may include values or data associated with biometric metrics associated with an electrocardiogram, a photopl ethy smogram, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiration rate, body temperature, physical activity, a sleep metric, electrical conductance, and the like. The biometric information 137c may be transmitted to the second computing device 400 via the receiver / transmitter 137. As will be described with respect to FIG. ID. the biometric information 137c may be output by the output device 460 (e.g., via the display device 450 or via a speaker). In some implementations the biometric information that is displayed by the display device 450 can include biometric information that is in the form of discrete values (e.g., a blood pressure value, a number of steps walked, etc.) and / or continuous values (e.g., an ECG signal, a PPG signal, etc.).

[0129] In some implementations, after connecting to the second computing device 400 and prior to sending the biometric information 137c to the second computing device 400, the biometric application 130 may be configured to transmit another communication (e.g., a fourth communication) which includes at least one of device information (e.g., first computing device information 137b) associated with the first computing device 100 or user information (e.g., user information 137a) associated with the user of the first computing device 100. For example, the fourth communication may7be transmitted after the authentication operation betw een the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 is completed (e.g., after the first computing device 100 has authenticated the second computing device 400). In some implementations, the third communication (which includes the biometric information 137c) may be transmitted after the fourth communication when the input to the input device 140 is maintained for a predetermined duration of time after the fourth communication is transmitted. For example, the third communication may be transmitted one second, two seconds, three second, etc., after the fourth communication. The elapsed time determiner 133 of the biometric application 130 may be configured to track or monitor whether the predetermined duration of time has elapsed, and may store different values for the predetermined duration of time which can be configurable by the user of thefirst computing device 100. The delay between transmissions of the third communication and the fourth communication can allow the second computing device 400 to output (e.g., temporarily output) the at least one of device information (e.g., first computing device information 137b) associated with the first computing device 100 or user information (e.g., user information 137a) associated with the user of the first computing device 100, so that the user can verify or confirm that the second computing device 400 which outputs such information is the correct second computing device. If the second computing device which outputs the information is not the correct second computing device, the user can interrupt or discontinue the input to the input device 140 and the connection between the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 can be terminated before transmitting the biometric information 137c, thereby ensuring the security and privacy of the biometric information 137c, as well as conserving networking and computing resources (e.g., processing power) by ensuring that the biometric information 137c is transmitted to the correct second computing device and avoiding multiple transmissions of the biometric information 137c.

[0130] In some implementations, the user information 137a may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 and may include an avatar of the user, a name of the user, etc. In some implementations, the first computing device information 137b may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 and may include a device name of the first computing device 100, device battery status of the first computing device 100, etc. For example, in the overview 3100 of FIG. 3 A, the user 3110 provides a tap gesture to the first computing device 100 which causes a visual indicator 3120 (e.g., a device name, user name, user avatar, etc.) to be displayed at the second computing device 400.

[0131] In some implementations, the user information 137a may be provided for output of the second computing device 400 via a speaker of output device 460, and may include an announcement of a user’s name, a user ID, etc. In some implementations, the first computing device information 137b may be provided for output of the second computing device 400 via a speaker of output device 460, and may include an announcement of a device name of the first computing device 100, device battery' status of the first computing device 100, etc. For example, in the overview 4100 of FIG. 4A, the user 3110 provides a tap gesture to the first computing device 100 which causes an output 4120 to be announced at the second computing device 400. For example, the output 4120 can include a sound effect and an instructionmessage to hold the tap gesture to cast information from “Kevin’s band” where the message indicates the name of the user and the type of first computing device.

[0132] As described herein, if the user maintains the input to the input device 140 for the predetermined duration of time after the fourth communication (e.g., including the first computing device information 137b and / or user information 137a) is transmitted, the third communication (e.g., including the biometric information 137c) is transmitted to the second computing device 400. For example, in the overview 3200 of FIG. 3B, the user 3210 maintains (e.g., holds) the tap gesture to the first computing device 100 which causes biometric information 3230 to be displayed at the second computing device 400. In some implementations, additional information may be displayed at the second computing device 400. For example, the visual indicator 3220 may continue to be displayed. For example, device information 3240 about the first computing device 100 and / or the second computing device 400 can be displayed at the second computing device 400. The device information may include a device part number, a device model number, a device name, a device manufacturer, biometric device capabilities associated with the device, battery status, sensor status, and the like. Further, additional options information 3250 can be displayed at the second computing device 400. For example, the additional options information 3250 can include information regarding available actions that can be performed and instructions for the user to cause the actions to be performed at the second computing device 400. For example, the action may include an action to launch (execute) a separate application or file (e.g., a social media application, an instructional or workout video, etc.) at the second computing device 400 and the instructions may include an instruction (message) to perform a particular input (e.g., a long press, double-tap gesture, etc.) to cause the biometric application 430 to launch the separate application or file. Thus, according to some implementations of the disclosure, after transmitting the third communication, the biometric application 130 may be configured to receive a further input to the input device 140 to cause the additional action to be performed. In response to the input device 140 receiving the further input, the receiver / transmitter 137 may be configured to transmit another communication to the second computing device 400 to trigger the additional action at the second computing device 400 (e.g., transmit an additional action operation 137d via the receiver / transmitter 137 to the second computing device 400). In some implementations, two or more of the biometric information 3230, device information 3240, and additional options information 3250 can be displayed simultaneously. In some implementations, the biometric information 3230, deviceinformation 3240, and additional options information 3250 can be displayed sequentially.

[0133] In some implementations, after the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 are connected with one another at operation 6040, the first computing device 100 may be configured to transmit a communication which includes the biometric information 137c together with at least one of the user information 137a or the first computing device information 137b. For example, the second computing device 400 may be configured to first display the at least one of the user information 439a or the first computing device information 439b (correspond to the user information 137a and first computing device information 137b), and then selectively display the biometric information 439c (corresponding to the biometric information 137c) after a predetermined duration of time. For example, if the user maintains the input to the input device 140 at the first computing device 100 for the predetermined duration of time after the at least one of the user information 439a or the first computing device information 439b is output, the second computing device 400 may be configured to output (e.g., display) the biometric information 439c. For example, if the user does not maintain the input to the input device 140 at the first computing device 100 for the predetermined duration of time after the at least one of the user information 439a or the first computing device information 439b is output, the second computing device 400 may be configured to stop outputting the at least one of the user information 439a or the first computing device information 439b and delete the biometric information 439c without the biometric information 439c being output. The at least one of the user information 439a or the first computing device information 439b may also be deleted. For example, the biometric application 430 may include an elapsed time determiner similar to elapsed time determiner 133 of biometric application 130 to track or monitor whether the predetermined duration of time has elapsed, and may store different values for the predetermined duration of time which can be configurable by a user.

[0134] As described herein, if the user interrupts (discontinues, releases, etc.) the input to the input device 140 after the fourth communication (e.g., including the first computing device information 137b and / or user information 137a) before the predetermined duration of time elapses, the connection between the first computing device 100 and the second computing device 400 is terminated. Further, if the user interrupts (discontinues, releases, etc.) the input to the input device 140 after the third communication (e.g., including the biometric information 137c) is transmitted, the connection between the first computing device 100 and the second computing device 400 is terminated. For example, in theoverview 3300 of FIG. 3C, the user 3310 interrupts (e.g., releases) the tap gesture to the first computing device 100 which causes the information displayed on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 as shown in FIG. 3C to disappear. Likewise, if the input to the first computing device 100 is released after the visual indicator 3120 is shown in FIG. 3 A, the visual indicator 3120 w ould also disappear.

[0135] As described herein, if the user maintains the input to the input device 140 after the fourth communication (e.g., including the first computing device information 137b and / or user information 137a) is transmitted for the predetermined duration of time, the third communication (e.g., including the biometric information 137c) is transmitted to the second computing device 400. For example, in the overview^ 4200 of FIG. 4B, the user 4210 maintains (e.g., holds) the tap gesture to the first computing device 100 which causes biometric information 4220 to be output via a speaker of the output device 460 at the second computing device 400. In some implementations, additional information may be output by the speaker of the second computing device 400. For example, device information about the first computing device 100 and / or the second computing device 400 can be announced at the second computing device 400. Further, additional options information can be described via the speaker at the second computing device 400. For example, the additional options information can include information regarding available actions that can be performed and instructions for the user to cause the actions to be performed at the second computing device 400. For example, the action may include an action to launch (execute) a separate application or file (e.g., a social media application, an instructional or workout video, etc.) at the second computing device 400 and the instructions may include an instruction (message announced via the speaker) to perform a particular input (e.g., a long press, double-tap gesture, etc.) to cause the biometric application 430 to launch the separate application or file. Thus, according to some implementations of the disclosure, after transmitting the third communication, the biometric application 130 may be configured to receive a further input to the input device 140 to cause the additional action to be performed. In response to the input device 140 receiving the further input, the receiver / transmitter 137 may be configured to transmit another communication to the second computing device 400 to trigger the additional action at the second computing device 400 (e.g., transmit an additional action operation 137d via the receiver I transmitter 137 to the second computing device 400). In some implementations, the biometric information, device information, and additional options information 3250 can be announced via the speaker in a sequential manner.

[0136] As described herein, if the user interrupts (discontinues, releases, etc.) the input to the input device 140 after the fourth communication (e.g., including the first computing device information 137b and / or user information 137a) before the predetermined duration of time elapses, the connection between the first computing device 100 and the second computing device 400 is terminated. Further, if the user interrupts (discontinues, releases, etc.) the input to the input device 140 after the third communication (e.g., including the biometric information 137c) is transmitted, the connection between the first computing device 100 and the second computing device 400 is terminated. For example, in the overview 4300 of FIG. 4C, the user 4310 interrupts (e.g., releases) the tap gesture to the first computing device 100 which causes a sound effect 4320 to be output (played) by the speaker of the output device 460. indicating the disconnection. Likewise, if the input to the first computing device 100 is released after the output 4120 is played as described with respect to FIG. 4A, the sound effect 4320 would also be played.

[0137] Aspects of the disclosure have been described in view of the biometric application 130 provided in the first computing device 100 with respect to FIGS. 1C through 7. Aspects of the disclosure will now be described in view of the biometric application 430 provided in the second computing device 400 with respect to FIGS. 1C through 7. FIG. ID illustrates that the biometric application 430 can include a biometric background sendee 432, an application presentation layer 434, an authentication determiner 438, and a receiver / transmitter 439. However, the biometric application 430 may include fewer or more features than that shown in FIG. ID. For example, features or operations of the components of the biometric application 430 may be provided separately from the biometric application 430. For example, some operations (such as the authentication determination) may instead be performed by another application of the second computing device 400.

[0138] The flow diagram of FIG. 7 illustrates a method 7000 for a second computing device receiving biometric information of a user from a first computing device via a biometric background service. Although shown in a particular sequence or order, unless otherwise specified, the order of the processes can be modified. Thus, the illustrated embodiments should be understood only as examples, and the illustrated processes can be performed in a different order, and some processes can be performed in parallel. Additionally, one or more processes can be omitted in various embodiments. Thus, not all processes are required in even’ embodiment. Other process flows are possible.

[0139] At operation 7010, the method 7000 includes executing a biometric backgroundsen-ice to determine whether a first communication is received from a first computing device (e.g., a wearable computing device). For example, in some implementations the biometric background service 432 may be part of an application (e.g., a browser application) or an operating system of a computing device, and may correspond to a software component or process that runs in the background of a computing system or computing device, for example, without requiring direct user interaction. The biometric background service 432 may be configured to perform tasks or provide functionality that continues to run even when the user is not actively using a particular application and without interrupting the user experience. For example, the biometric background service 432 may be executed under various conditions: automatically in response to the second computing device 400 being started or pow-ered on; at specific times or intervals; in response to a trigger event (e.g.. the receipt of a communication, in response to being connected to a network); in response to a user input, in response to receiving a notification, etc.

[0140] In some implementations, the biometric background service 432 may be configured to, when executed, continuously monitor for communications from the first computing device 100. For example, as described herein the first computing device 100 may be configured to transmit the first communication in response to the input device 140 receiving an input. The biometric background service 432 may be configured to receive the first communication and information included therein.

[0141] At operation 7020, the method 7000 includes, in response to the biometric background service determining the first communication is received from the first computing device 100 (e.g., the wearable computing device), connecting to the first computing device 100. For example, as described herein, the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 may be configured to perform an authentication operation in connection with the first computing device 100 connecting to the second computing device 400. For example, the biometric background service 432 may be configured to exchange communications with the first computing device 100 to perform the authentication operation.

[0142] For example, in some implementations the authentication determiner 438 may be configured to perform an authentication operation in response to, or in conjunction with, the second computing device 400 transmitting a second communication from the second computing device 400 to the first computing device 100. For example, the receiver / transmitter 439 may be configured to transmit the second communication to the first computing device 100. In some implementations, the second communication may betransmitted wirelessly from the second computing device 400 (e.g., via BLUETOOTH, NFC, ultrasound. UWB, etc.). For example, the second communication may include an acknowledgement of receiving the first communication, status information indicating an availability of the second computing device 400 (e.g., available bandwidth, channel utilization information, etc.), status information indicating distance information of the second computing device 400 to the first computing device 100 (e.g.. signal strength information, time-of-flight information, etc.), status information indicating a state of the second computing device 400 (e.g., whether the second computing device 400 is currently in use, is displaying content, is outputting content through a speaker, etc.), or other status information (e.g., device capabilities of the second computing device 400 such as display screen resolution, display screen size, available display space, whether the second computing device is a private device or shared device, etc.).

[0143] For example, an authentication operation between the first computing device 100 and the biometric background service 432 of the second computing device 400 can help maintain the security and integrity' of communications between the first computing device 100 and the biometric background service 432. In some implementations, the authentication operation can include information such as credentials, tokens, or other proof of identity. For example, in some implementations the first computing device 100 may store a private key and the second computing device 400 may store a public key for encrypting information (e.g., user information, first computing device 100 information, biometric information, etc.) which is transmitted from the first computing device 100 to the second computing device 400.

[0144] At operation 7030, the method 7000 includes, in response to connecting to the first computing device 100 (e.g.. the wearable computing device), receiving a third communication from the first computing device 100, the third communication including biometric information associated with a user of the first computing device 100. For example, the third communication may include biometric information associated with a user of the first computing device 100. The biometric information may include values or data associated with biometric metrics associated with an electrocardiogram, a photopl ethy smogram, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiration rate, body temperature, physical activity, a sleep metric, electrical conductance, and the like. The biometric information may be received by the second computing device 400 via the biometric background service 432 and / or the receiver / transmitter 439.

[0145] In some implementations, after connecting to the first computing device 100 andprior to receiving the biometric information from the first computing device 100, the biometric application 430 may be configured to receive another communication (e.g., a fourth communication) which includes at least one of device information (e.g., first computing device information) associated with the first computing device 100 or user information (e.g., user information) associated with the user of the first computing device 100. For example, the fourth communication may be received after the authentication operation between the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 is completed (e.g., after the first computing device 100 has authenticated the second computing device 400). In some implementations, the third communication (which includes the biometric information) may be received after the fourth communication when the input to the input device 140 is maintained for a predetermined duration of time after the fourth communication is transmitted. For example, the third communication may be received one second, two seconds, three second, etc., after the fourth communication. The biometric background sendee 432 may be configured to receive the third and fourth communications and information included therein.

[0146] The delay between transmissions of the third communication and the fourth communication can allow the second computing device 400 to output (e.g.. temporarily output) the at least one of device information associated with the first computing device 100 or user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100, so that the user can verify or confirm that the second computing device 400 which outputs such information is the correct second computing device. If the second computing device 400 which outputs the information is not the correct second computing device, the user can interrupt or discontinue the input to the input device 140 and the connection between the first computing device 100 and second computing device 400 can be terminated before transmitting the biometric information via the third communication, thereby ensuring the security and privacy of the biometric information, as well as conserving networking and computing resources (e.g., processing power) by ensuring that the biometric information is transmitted to the correct second computing device and avoiding multiple transmissions of the biometric information.

[0147] The biometric application 430 may be configured to output, via the output device 460, confirmation of receipt of the at least one of the device information associated with the first computing device 100 or the user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100, before outputting the biometric information. For example, biometricapplication 430 may be configured to output the first computing device information 439b associated with the first computing device 100 and / or the user information 439a associated with the user of the first computing device 100 at the output device 460, a predetermined duration of time (e.g., 1 second, two seconds, three seconds, etc.) before the biometric information 439c is output. The output may serve as a confirmation to the user that a correct second computing device has been selected or activated for displaying information associated with the user.

[0148] In some implementations, the confirmation of the receipt of the at least one of the device information associated with the first computing device 100 or the user information associated w ith the user of the first computing device 100 includes an output by the output device 460 of at least one of a visual indicator or a sound indicator. For example, the visual indicator may include an avatar associated with the user of the first computing device 100. For example, the sound indicator may include a sound effect (e.g., a particular chime, jingle, etc.) and / or a message which includes identifying information about the user and / or first computing device 100. In some implementations, the user information 439a may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 or output by a speaker of the second computing device 400 and may include an avatar of the user, a name of the user, a user ID, etc. In some implementations, the first computing device information 439b may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 or output by a speaker of the second computing device 400 and may include a device name of the first computing device 100, device battery status of the first computing device 100, etc.

[0149] At operation 7040, the method 7000 includes outputting, via the output device, the biometric information. For example, as described herein, if the user maintains the input to the input device 140 for the predetermined duration of time after the fourth communication (e.g., including the first computing device information and / or user information) is transmitted, the third communication (e.g., including the biometric information) is transmitted to the second computing device 400. The biometric application 430 (e.g., receiver / transmitter 439) may be configured to output the biometric information 439c for rendering by the output device 460 (e.g., via the display device 450, the speaker, etc.).

[0150] The biometric information 439c associated with the user of the first computing device 100 may include biometrics associated with an ECG, PPG, heart rate, pulse information, BMI, heart rate variability, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, body temperature, sleep quality, physical activities (e.g., number of steps walked), and the like. The biometricinformation 439c may be provided for presentation on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 via the application presentation layer 434 and data interface 436 as described herein. For example, the application presentation layer 434 may be configured to receive data (e.g., device information associated with the first computing device 100, user information associated with the user of the first computing device 100, biometric information associated with the user of the first computing device 100, etc.) from the biometric background service 432 and format (render) the data for display via the display device 450. In some implementations the biometric information 439c that is displayed by the display device 450 can include biometric information that is in the form of discrete values (e.g., a blood pressure value, a number of steps walked, etc.) and / or continuous values (e.g., an ECG signal, a PPG signal, etc.).

[0151] As described herein, in some implementations, the biometric application 430 may be configured to output an additional action operation 439d to a separate application or file 440 to perform an action. For example, as described with respect to FIG. 3B, additional options information 3250 can be displayed at the second computing device 400 and can include information regarding available actions that can be performed and instructions for the user to cause the actions to be performed at the second computing device 400. For example, the action may include an action to launch (execute) a separate application or file (e.g., a social media application, an instructional or workout video, etc.) at the second computing device 400 and the instructions may include an instruction (message) to perform a particular input (e.g., a long press, double-tap gesture, etc.) to cause the biometric application 430 to launch the separate application or file 440. Thus, according to some implementations of the disclosure, after transmitting the third communication, the biometric application 430 may be configured to receive a further communication from the first computing device 100 to cause the additional action operation 439d to be performed. In some implementations, two or more of the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b. biometric information 439c, and additional action operation 439d can be displayed simultaneously. In some implementations, the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b, biometric information 439c, and additional action operation 439d can be displayed or provided for output via a speaker sequentially. In some implementations, the display device 450 and speaker can output information (the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b, biometric information 439c, and additional action operation 439d) at the same time.

[0152] As described herein, if the user interrupts (discontinues, releases, etc.) the input to the input device 140 after the fourth communication (e.g., including the first computing device information 137b and / or user information 137a) before the predetermined duration of time elapses, the connection between the first computing device 100 and the second computing device 400 is terminated and the biometric application 430 is configured to stop outputting information (e.g., the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b, etc.). Further, the biometric application 430 may be configured to delete the information (e.g., the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b, etc.), to thereby preserve the security7and privacy of the information.

[0153] Further, if the user interrupts (discontinues, releases, etc.) the input to the input device 140 after the third communication (e.g., including the biometric information 137c) is transmitted, the connection between the first computing device 100 and the second computing device 400 is terminated and the biometric application 430 is configured to stop outputting information (e.g., the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b, biometric information 439c, additional action operation 439d, etc.). Further, the biometric application 430 may be configured to delete the information (e.g., the user information 439a, first computing device information 439b. biometric information 439c. additional action operation 439d, etc.), to thereby preserve the security and privacy of the information.

[0154] FIG. 5 illustrates an example embodiment for outputting biometric information associated with a plurality of users of a plurality of wearable computing devices at a computing device having an output device, according to one or more examples of the disclosure. Further, in FIG. 5 a first visual indicator 5300 associated with the first user of the first computing device is displayed on the display device 450 of the second computing device 400 at the same time as a second visual indicator 5400 associated with the second user of the another first computing device. The second computing device 400 (e.g., the biometric application 430) may be configured to independently process operations withrespect to each first computing device.

[0155] In some implementations, when the first computing device 100 includes the display device 150, the first computing device 100 may be configured to display a first portion of the biometric information 137c at the display device 150 and transmit a second portion of the biometric information 137c for output at the second computing device 400. For example, the second computing device 400 may be configured to extend or expand the display of the biometric information to increase the visibility of the biometric information or increase the amount of biometric information that can be displayed or output to the user.
