Description

MBS BROADCASTING METHOD, BASE STATION AND WIRELESS COMMUNICATION APPARATUSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to wireless communication technology, and in particular to a Multicast / broadcast Service broadcasting method, a base station, and a wireless communication apparatus.BACKGROUND

[0002] Multicast / broadcast service (MBS) feature provides an important add-value for New Radio (NR) Non-terrestrial Network (NTN) system, leveraging the large coverage area of NTN compared to TN for MBS deployment.

[0003] According to current R18 NTN design, the configuration related to a UE accessing via NTN access is provided via a System Information Block (i.e., SIB19) . To prevent regularity intervening issue and to guarantee that the UE is accessing the network which is authorized to, the UE location has to be verified by the network.

[0004] On the other hand, according to Rel-18 MBS, MBS broadcast configuration is provided as per MBS session basis from the core network to the Radio Access Network (RAN) node in form of MBS areas such as, a set of tracking areas or regions, or cell groups. The MBS areas may be statically allocated by broadcasters or configured within the core network. The RAN node broadcasts the MBS session to the group of UEs according to MBS area configuration provided by the core network via a System Information Block (SIB) .

[0005] In case of MBS broadcasting over NTN network, the NTN satellite beam coverage configured at the RAN level may span to multiple countries or multiple areas / regions within a country, while the actual MBS intended service area configured by the broadcasters at the core network level could be only a specific country / area / region, or a subset of countries / areas / regions from the set containing all countries / areas / regions covered by the satellite beams or cells. Therefore; it would be difficult to identify the valid MBS area so as to guarantee an optimal control of MBS broadcasting over the satellite coverage.SUMMARY

[0006] Accordingly, the present disclosure aims to provide a Multicast / broadcast service broadcasting method, a base station, and a wireless communication apparatus.

[0007] A technical scheme adopted by the present disclosure is to provide a Multicast / broadcast service (MBS) broadcasting method. The method is executed by a Radio Access Network (RAN) node. The method includes: receiving an indication which indicates an MBS is to be delivered; responsive to reception of the indication, determining a verified MBS area; and enabling the MBS broadcasting over the verified MBS area.

[0008] Another scheme adopted by the present disclosure is to provide a base station node in a wireless communication system. The base station includes a transceiver configured to transmit and receive a signal and a controller. The controller may execute program instructions to perform the above-mentioned MBS broadcasting method.

[0009] Another technical scheme adopted by the present disclosure is to provide a Multicast / broadcast service (MBS) broadcasting method. The method is executed by a core network node in a wireless communication system. The method includes: transmitting an indication which indicates an MBS is to be delivered; receiving a result of mapping between a satellite coverage (beams or cells) and geographical locations of area; and verifying the result of mapping against an intended MBS area to determine a verified MBS area, wherein the verified MBS area is configured for enabling the MBS broadcasting over the verified MBS area of the satellite coverage .

[0010] Another technical scheme adopted by the present disclosure is to provide an apparatus in a wireless communication system. The apparatus includes a transceiver configured to transmit and receive a signal and a controller. The controller may execute program instructions to perform the above-mentioned MBS broadcasting method.

[0011] Another technical scheme adopted by the present disclosure is to provide a computer readable media. The computer readable media stores executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform any of the above-mentioned methods.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0023] The disclosure will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings and examples. Apparently, the described embodiments are only a part of the embodiments of the present disclosure, not all of the embodiments. All other embodiments obtained by a person of ordinary skill in the art based on the embodiments of the present invention without creative efforts shall fall within the protection scope of the present invention.

[0024] The present disclosure provides an air interface and network interface signaling enhancements for controlling of MBS SIBs broadcasting over NTN taking into account the intended MBS broadcasting area. Additionally, the present disclosure also provides an indication enhancement between RAN and core network to help handling / managing the coexistence issue between TN and NTN while controlling the MBS broadcasting.

[0025] As explained above, the intended MBS broadcasting service area could be restricted to specific country or region while the actual satellite beam / beams coverage could span to covers multiple countries or multiple set of regions within one country. The method according to embodiments of the present disclosure relies on: allowing the core network (AMF / SMF) to be aware of the mapping between the satellite beams / cells and the actual areas or regions covered by the satellite beam / beams at radio access node (RAN) node level, or allowing the radio access node to be aware of the intended MBS service area to be delivered over satellite access. Based on such awareness, the core network or radio access network may verify the areas or regions covered by satellite beam / beams against the actual MBS service areas provided or configured by the broadcasters at application or core network level, by deciding which ones of these areas or regions are / is subjected to the MBS broadcasting and which ones are not. Once the actual MBS service areas regions intended for MBS service is verified by the core network or locally by the RAN node, the RAN use such information to configure or control the broadcasting of MBS system information block over the coverage area of the satellite access system information block.

[0026] FIG. 1 shows an exemplary scenario where coverage of a satellite spans to multiple countries while an intended MBS area is a specific country. In this scenario, a satellite beam coverage is spanning to multiple countries (Countries A, B, C and D) , while the intended MBS area is one or countries with a same regularity for MBS reception among the multiple countries covered by the satellite. For example, the intended MBS area may be the country A as shown in FIG. 1.

[0027] According to current 3gpp TN / NTN network design, the networks associated with different  countries are identified by an identity known as a Tracking Area Identity (TAI) , consisting of a Public Land Mobile Network Identity (PLMN ID) and a Tracking Area Code (TAC) . The PLMN ID is a globally unique identifier that represents specific mobile network in a country. It consists of a Mobile Country Code (MCC) and a Mobile Network Code (MNC) . The TAC is a unique number assigned to each tracking area within a PLMN. MBS broadcasting can be done according to these identities. However, from a satellite point of view, only a single TAI or PLMN ID can be seen under the satellite beam / beams coverage (i.e., the TAI / PLMN ID / MMC code which operating the satellite) , while actually on the earth, the satellite beam / beams may cover many PLMN IDs or MCC countries codes. Therefore, it is hard to decide which country or set of countries among the multiple countries covered by the satellite beam / beams are actually the intended service area for MBS broadcasting, and to decide how to enable or restrict the broadcasting of MBS SIB to these specific countries.

[0028] FIG. 2 shows an exemplary scenario where coverage of a satellite spans to an entire country while an intended MBS area is some specific regions within the country. In this scenario, the satellite coverage is spanning to cover an entire country while the intended MBS area is a specific region or some regions (i.e., specific cells / areas) within the country. For example, as shown in FIG. 2, the satellite coverage includes Tracking Area (TA) 1, TA 2 and TA3, while the intended MBS area is TA 1 only.

[0029] According to current 3gpp TN / NTN network design, several network identities and mapping can be used to distinguish between different regions / areas or cell groups falling within one single PLMN ID covered by the satellite beam, e.g., a Tracking Area (TA) corresponding to a fixed geographical area, or a mapped cell ID.

[0030] In this scenario, the RAN node operating the satellite may be fully aware of the mapping between the TA, the mapped cell identity and the actual geographical area covered by the satellite beam. However, due to the fact that the TA or the mapped cell identity known at RAN level may not actually correspond to the intended MBS area for MBS broadcasting (which may be preconfigured at the core network level or the application level by the broadcasting service) , it is hard for the RAN node to decide which regions / areas, TA or cell groups falling within a PLMN ID covered by the satellite are the actual and intended regions / areas, TA or cell groups for MBS broadcasting, and to decide how to enable or restrict the broadcasting of MBS SIB to these regions / areas, TA or cell groups.

[0031] FIG. 3 illustrates a schematic diagram of a NTN system according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The NTN system 300 may include, but not limited to, a data network 301, a User Plane Function (UPF)  / Session Management Function (SMF)  / Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) 302, a base station 303, a satellite 304 and a User equipment (not shown) . The base station 303 may be implemented in an independent device. Additionally, or alternatively, the base station 303 may be integrated in the satellite 304. The data network 301 is where the actual services (e.g., internet, VoIP, video streaming) are hosted. The core network (UPF / SMF / AMF) 302 is the central part that manages and controls all the functions of the network. The base station 303 (e.g., NG-RAN) may communicate directly with the satellites or HAPs, and plays a crucial role in managing and  controlling the NTN system. The user equipment is a device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, IoT device etc. ) that communicates with the network.

[0032] In the scenario shown in FIG. 3, the satellite coverage may include the Countries A, B and C while the actual and intended MBS area is the country B. One way to address this potential issue is to allow the core network to be aware of actual areas or countries (PLMN IDs) covered by the satellite beam / beams at radio access node level. Based on such awareness, the core network can verify these PLMN IDs against those provided or configured by the broadcasters at application or core network level (i.e., those PLMIDs or MCC codes configured within TMGI or within the MBS service area provided by application layer) , and decide which one of these PLMN IDs are actually subjected to the MBS broadcast delivery (i.e., the PLMN IDs regarded as MBS intended service areas) .

[0033] Therefore, for MBS broadcast delivery over NTN, the NG-RAN node shall perform: based on satellite ephemeris information, a mapping between satellite cells / beams coverage and the actual geographical location of the countries covered by the satellite cells / beams on the ground at the given time and estimating the PLMN identities, country codes located within coverage of satellite beam / beams based on mapping; then, using such a mapping information locally or providing the mapping information to the core network to verify whether the estimated PLMN identities, country codes are a part of the MBS intended service areas configured by the broadcasters.

[0034] Once the PLMN IDs regarded as MBS intended service area is verified locally by the NG-RAN node or provided by the AMF. The NG-RAN node shall use such information to configure or control the broadcasting of MBS system information block within NTN system information block. For example: the NG-RAN node shall provide, to the UEs, the mapping information derived based on the satellite ephemeris such as the cell and / or the SSB index of the beam mapped to identity of country where the satellite beam is covering. Additionally, the NG-RAN node shall configure a field within NTN system information block to be used to enable broadcasting of MBS system information block within the NTN SIB for the verified the PLMN identities or country codes, and disable broadcasting of MBS SIB over the unverified PLMN identities or country codes or regions. Moreover, NG-RAN node may configure additional information element within NTN SIB to carry the MBS SIB or configuration information associated with the verified and unverified PLMN IDs to the UEs, so that the UEs can avoid initiating MBS broadcast acquisition procedures over these PLMN IDs that are not verified for MBS broadcasting to save some power.

[0035] Alternatively, the NG-RAN node shall configure an information element within NTN system information block to provide the configuration of only the verified the cell and / or the SSB index for MBS broadcasting which is derived based on the mapping and the actual MBS service are provided by AMF to UEs.

[0036] FIG. 4 illustrates a schematic diagram of a NTN system according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. The NTN system 400 may include, but not limited to, a data network 401, a User Plane Function (UPF)  / Session Management Function (SMF)  / Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) 402, a base station 403, a satellite 404 and a user equipment (not shown) . The base  station 403 may be implemented in an independent device. Additionally or alternatively, the base station 403 may be integrated in the satellite 404. The data network 401 is where the actual services (e.g., internet, VoIP, video streaming) are hosted. The core network (UPF / SMF / AMF) 402 is the central part that manages and controls all the functions of the network. The base station 403 (e.g., NG-RAN) may communicate directly with the satellites or HAPs, and plays a crucial role in managing and controlling the NTN system. The user equipment is a device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, IoT device etc. ) that communicates with the network.

[0037] In the scenario shown in FIG. 4, the satellite coverage may include the geographical areas #1, #2 and #3, while the actual and intended MBS area is the geographical area #2. One way to address this potential issue is to allow the core network (AMF) to be aware of actual tracking areas or RAN notification areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities covered by the satellite beam / beams at Radio Access Network (NG-RAN) level. Based on such awareness, the core network can verify these tracking areas or RAN notification areas (RNAs) or cell identities or mapped cell identities against the tracking areas or cells provided or configured by the broadcasters at application or core network level (i.e., those tracking areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities configured within the MBS service area provided by application layer) , and decide which one of these tracking areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities are actually subjected to the MBS broadcast delivery.

[0038] Therefore, for MBS broadcast delivery over NTN, the NG-RAN node may perform: e.g., based on satellite ephemeris information, a mapping between the satellite cells / beams, PLMN coverage area and the actual geographical location or the tracking areas or RAN notification areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities covered by the satellite cells / beams on the ground at the given time and estimating the tracking areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities located within coverage satellite beam / beams based on mapping; then, using such mapping information locally or providing the mapping information to the core network to verify whether these tracking areas or RAN notification areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities are a part of the MBS intended service areas configured by the broadcasters.

[0039] Once the tracking areas or RAN notification areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities for MBS intended service area is verified locally by the NG-RAN node or the verification result is provided by the AMF. The NG-RAN node shall use such information to configure or control the broadcasting of MBS system information block within NTN System Information Block accordingly. For example, the NG-RAN node shall provide, to the UEs, the mapping information derived based on the satellite ephemeris such as the cell and / or the SSB index of the beam mapped to tracking areas, RAN notification areas, cell identities or mapped cell identities where the satellite beam is covering. In addition, NG-RAN node may configure a field within NTN system information block to be used to enable broadcasting of MBS System Information Block over the NTN SIB for the verified tracking areas, RAN notification areas, cell identities or mapped cell identities, and disable broadcasting of MBS SIB over the unverified tracking areas, RAN notification areas, cell identities or mapped cell identities. Moreover, the NG-RAN node may configure additional information element within NTN  SIB to carry the MBS SIB or configuration information associated with the verified and unverified tracking areas, RAN notification areas, cell identities or mapped cell identities to the UEs, so that the UEs can avoid initiating MBS broadcast acquisition procedures over these the tracking areas or RAN notification areas or cell identities or mapped cell identities that are not verified for MBS broadcasting to save some power.

[0040] Alternatively, the NG-RAN node shall configure an information element within NTN system information block to provide the configuration of the verified the cell and / or the SSB index associated with actual MBS broadcasting area which is derived based on the mapping and the actual MBS service.

[0041] FIG. 5 is a flow chart of an MBS broadcasting method according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The method may include operations described in blocks 501 to 503. The method may be executed by, for example, a Radio Access Network node / apparatus.

[0042] In block 501, an indication which indicates an MBS is to be delivered is received.

[0043] The indication may be transmitted from a core network node / apparatus to the RAN node. In some embodiments, the indication may further indicate whether the MBS is to be delivered over NTN access network or TN network. Additionally or alternatively, the indication may indicate an intended MBS area (s) . The indication may be carried by an N2 message, for example but not limited to, MBS Assistance information, MBS Session Resource Setup Request, MBS Session Resource Setup Modification, or any other MBS / NTN configuration related signaling message from the core network to the NG-RAN. Table 1 as listed below provides an illustrative example of pseudo codes of the indication.

[0044] Table 1

[0045] In block 502, a verified MBS area is determined responsive to reception of the indication.

[0046] When the RAN node receives the indication indicating an MBS is to be delivered, it needs to determine the verified MBS area. In an NTN system, the verified MBS area may refer to an area verified by the RAN or the core network which falls within the satellite coverage and corresponds to the intended MBS area at the same time. In a TN system, the verified MBS area may refer to an authorized area which corresponds to the intended MBS area.

[0047] In some embodiments, to determine the verified MBS area, the RAN node performs mapping between a satellite coverage and geographical locations of area, and determine the verified  MBS area based on result of the mapping. In some embodiments, the indication mentioned above may also indicate whether the MBS is to be delivered over NTN access network or TN network. If the indication indicates the MBS is to be delivered over NTN access network, the RAN node performs the mapping operation. Otherwise, RAN node may perform the method as described in association with FIG. 9.

[0048] The satellite coverage may be acquired by the RAN node in different ways. For example, the satellite coverage may be acquired based on satellite ephemeris. Satellite ephemeris may include precise information about, for example, the position, velocity, altitude, operational status information, beam information, transmit power, and other parameters of a satellite at a specific time. In the present disclosure, parameters of the satellite ephemeris for determining the satellite coverage are not limited. For example, the RAN may acquire the satellite position and velocity at a specific time to determine the coverage of the satellite at the time.

[0049] By comparing the satellite coverage with geographical locations of areas, the RAN may determine an estimated MBS area that is under the satellite coverage based on the mapping result. It should be understood, in other embodiments, the mapping operation may, additionally or alternatively, be performed by the core network node.

[0050] In one embodiment, to acquire the verified MBS area, the RAN node may transmit the mapping result to the core network. The mapping result may be carried in an N2 message, for example but not limited to, MBS Assistance information, MBS Session Resource Response, or any other MBS / NTN configuration related signaling message from the NG-RAN to the core network. The core network node may verify the mapping result (including correspondence between satellite beams / cells and the estimated MBS areas) against the intended MBS area (s) . The intended MBS area (s) may be preconfigured at the core network level or the application level by the broadcasting service. Additionally, or alternatively, the intended MBS area (s) may be a legacy MBS area. Through verification, the core network node may determine the verified MBS areas which are included in both the estimated MBS areas and the intended MBS areas. Furthermore, the core network node may transmit information with regard to the verified MBS areas to the RAN node. The information with regard to the verified MBS areas may be carried in an N2 message, for example but not limited to, MBS Session Resource Setup Request, MBS Session Resource Setup Modification, or any other MBS / NTN configuration related signaling message from the core network to the NG-RAN. Table 2 provides an illustrative example of pseudo codes of the verification information.

[0051] Table 2

[0052] In another embodiment, to acquire the verified MBS area, the core network node may transmit an intended MBS area configuration to the RAN node. Accordingly, the RAN node may verify the mapping result, i.e., the estimated MBS areas, against the intended MBS area (s) . The intended MBS area (s) may be preconfigured at the core network level or the application level by the broadcasting service. Additionally, or alternatively, the intended MBS area (s) may be a legacy MBS area. The RAN node may verify the estimated MBS area against the intended MBS area (e.g., the legacy MBS area configuration) to determine the verified MBS area which is included in both the estimated MBS area and the intended MBS area.

[0053] In some embodiments, the satellite coverage is configured to indicate which countries the satellite is capable of covering, and the geographical locations of areas are determined based on geographical locations of countries. In this embodiment, the verified MBS area includes verified MBS countries. Additionally, the mapping result may include correspondence between at least one satellite beam / cell and at least one of: a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) ID, an estimated country code, and the geographical axis of an estimated MBS country. The verification information indicating the verified MBS area may include at least one of: a verified Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) ID, a verified country code, and the geographical axis of a verified MBS country. Table 3 provides an illustrative example of the mapping result. For example, the mapping result may indicates satellite beams / cells with their corresponding PLM IDs or Mobile Country Codes. As shown in Table 3, the satellite beam1 / cell1 may correspond to the PLMN ID / MCC of Romania, the satellite beam2 / cell2 may correspond to the PLMN ID / MCC of Romania, and the satellite beam3 / cell3 may correspond to the PLMN ID / MCC of Greece. The possible indication information provided by NG-RAN to AMF may include these correspondence information together with the satellite ephemeris information.

[0054] Table 3

[0055] In some embodiments, the satellite coverage is configured to indicate which cells the satellite is capable of covering, and the geographical locations of areas are determined based on geographical locations of cells. In this embodiment, the verified MBS area includes the verified MBS cell (s) . Additionally, the mapping result may include correspondence between at least one satellite beam / cell and at least one of: an estimated Tracking Area Code (TAC) , an estimated RAN notification area (RNA) , an estimated cell group and a mapped cell identifier. The verification information indicating the verified MBS area may include at least one of: a verified Tracking Area Code (TAC) , a verified RAN notification area, a verified cell group or a mapped cell identifier. Table 4 provides an illustrative example of the mapping result. For example, the mapping result may indicates satellite beams / cells with their corresponding TACs, RNAs, mapped cell group IDs or mapped cell IDs. As shown in Table 4, the satellite beam1 / cell1 may correspond to the TAC / RNA / mapped cell ID of geographical area #1, the satellite beam2 / cell2 may correspond to the TAC / RNA / mapped cell ID of geographical area #2, and the satellite beam3 / cell3 may correspond to the TAC / RNA / mapped cell ID of geographical area #3. The possible indication information provided by NG-RAN to AMF may include these correspondence information together with the satellite ephemeris information.

[0056] Table 4

[0057] In block 503, the MBS is enabled over the verified MBS area.

[0058] In some embodiments, the RAN node enables broadcasting of a System Information Block (SIB) related to the MBS over the verified MBS area. Additionally, or alternatively, the RAN node  restricts broadcasting of the SIB related to the MBS over the unverified areas.

[0059] In some embodiments, the SIB includes the result of the mapping and information of the verified MBS area.

[0060] In some embodiments, the mapping result and a verified country indicator may be transmitted over the verified MBS countries. The verified country indicator may include at least one of: a verified Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) ID, a verified country code, and a geographical axis of the verified MBS countries.

[0061] For example, the RAN node may configure additional information element within NTN SIB to carry the MBS SIB or configuration information associated with the verified and unverified PLMN IDs to the UEs. Therefore, the UEs can avoid initiating MBS broadcast acquisition procedures over these PLMN IDs that is not verified for MBS broadcasting to save some power. Table 5 provides an illustrative example of pseudo codes of an NTN SIB.

[0062] Table 5

[0063] Additionally, or alternatively, the RAN node may configure an information element within NTN system information block to provide the configuration of only the verified cells and / or the SSB index for MBS broadcasting which is derived based on the mapping and the actual MBS service provided by AMF to UEs. Table 6 provides an illustrative example of pseudo codes of an NTN SIB.

[0064] Table 6

[0065] In some embodiments, the mapping result and a verified cell indicator may be transmitted over the verified MBS cells. The verified cell indicator may include at least one of: a verified Tracking  Area Code (TAC) , a verified RAN notification area, a verified cell group or a mapped cell identifier.

[0066] For example, the RAN node may configure additional information element within NTN SIB to carry the MBS SIB or configuration information associated with the verified and unverified tracking areas, RAN notification areas, cell identities, or mapped cell identifiers to the UEs. Therefore, the UEs can avoid initiating MBS broadcast acquisition procedures over these tracking areas, RAN notification areas, cell identities, or mapped cell identifiers that are not verified for MBS broadcasting to save some power. Table 7 provides an illustrative example of pseudo codes of an NTN SIB.

[0067] Table 7

[0068] Additionally or alternatively, the RAN node may configure an information element within NTN System Information Block to provide the configuration of only the verified cells and / or the SSB index associated with actual MBS tracking areas or cell identities for MBS broadcasting which is derived based on the mapping and the actual MBS area provided by AMF to UEs. Table 8 provides an illustrative example of pseudo codes of an NTN SIB.

[0069] Table 8

[0070] In some embodiments, the RAN node may further perform the following operation: providing the SIB related to the MBS to a User Equipment (UE) over a Uu system information signaling. Table 9 provides an illustrative example of MBS SIB control message over Uu interface.

[0071] Table 9

[0072] In some embodiments, the RAN node may further perform the following operations: reporting a Downlink (DL) tunnel information of the verified MBS area to the core network; receiving MBS broadcast media stream from the core network; and transferring the MBS broadcast media stream over a tunnel associated with the verified MBS area based on the DL tunnel information.

[0073] According to the present embodiment, an indication which indicates a MBS is to be delivered is received. A verified MBS area is determined responsive to reception of the indication. And the MBS is enabled over the verified MBS area. The method may help in controlling the MBS broadcasting over multiple countries or over multiple regions within a country.

[0074] FIG. 6 is a flow chart of an MBS broadcasting method according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. The method may include operations described in blocks 601 to 603. The method  may be executed by, for example, a core network node / apparatus.

[0075] In block 601, an indication which indicates an MBS is to be delivered is transmitted.

[0076] In block 602, a result of mapping between a satellite coverage and geographical locations of area is received.

[0077] In block 603, the result of mapping is verified against an intended MBS area to determine a verified MBS area. The result of verification is provided to, for example, an NG-RAN node for enabling MBS broadcasting over the verified MBS area.

[0078] In block 604, the verification information indicating the verified MBS area is transmitted to a Radio Access Network (RAN) node. Therefore, the RAN may use this information to enable MBS broadcasting over the verified MBS area.

[0079] In this embodiment, the verification of the mapping result against the intended MBS area is done at the core network level.

[0080] In some embodiments, the result of the mapping includes at least one of: an estimated Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) ID, an estimated country code, and a geographical axis of an estimated MBS country. Correspondingly, the verification information indicating the verified MBS area may include at least one of: a verified Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) ID, a verified country code, and a geographical axis of a verified MBS country.

[0081] In some embodiments, the result of the mapping includes at least one of: an estimated Tracking Area Code (TAC) , an estimated RAN notification, an estimated cell group and a mapped cell identifier. Correspondingly, the verification information indicating the verified MBS area may include at least one of: a verified Tracking Area Code (TAC) , a verified RAN notification area, a verified cell group or a mapped cell identifier.

[0082] In some embodiments, the intended MBS area is configured at the core network level. Alternatively, the intended MBS area is configured at the application level and acquired by the core network node / apparatus.

[0083] In some embodiments, the verified MBS area includes verified MBS countries or verified MBS cells.

[0084] In some embodiments, the method further include: receiving a Downlink (DL) tunnel information of the verified MBS area; and transmitting MBS broadcast media stream to a Radio Access Network (RAN) and / or a User Equipment (UE) over a tunnel associated with the verified MBS based on the DL tunnel information.

[0085] According to the present embodiment, an indication which indicates an MBS is to be delivered is transmitted. A result of mapping between a satellite coverage and geographical locations of area is received. And the result of mapping is verified against an intended MBS area to determine a verified MBS area. The method may help in controlling the MBS broadcasting over multiple countries or over multiple regions within a country.

[0086] FIG. 7 is a flow chart of an MBS broadcasting method of a NTN system in which the verification of MBS area is performed by the core network. The detail of signaling and enhancement  procedures for the embodiment show in FIG. 7 can be given below.

[0087] S701: The AMF transfers an N2 message carrying an MBS request / assistance information. The MBS request / assistance information contains an indication to indicate whether an MBS service or Temporary Mobile Group Identity (TMGI) is to be delivered over TN or NTN access network. If the information indicates the MBS service or the TMGI is to be delivered over NTN access network, operations S702 to S709 may be performed. For the case the information indicates the MBS service or the TMGI is to be delivered over TN access network, please refer to descriptions with regard to FIG. 9.

[0088] S702: After receiving message from AMF, based on the indication, the Next Generation Radio Access Network (NG-RAN) node performs mapping, based on satellite ephemeris, between satellite cells / beams and the geographical location of the countries / cells, and estimates the identities (IDs) of the countries / cells located within the satellite coverage based on mapping

[0089] S703: The NG-RAN node transmits, to the AMF, an N2 signaling message carrying an MBS Assistance information containing the estimated IDs of the countries / cells which are estimated to be within the satellite coverage. Additionally or alternatively, the NG-RAN may transmit the satellite ephemeris and satellite beams / cells coverage information to the AMF.

[0090] S704: Upon the reception of the N2 message from the NG-RAN node, the AMF verifies the estimated IDs of the countries / cells located within the satellite coverage against the actual IDs of intended MBS area. The intended MBS area may be configured by broadcaster of the application or service layers. In the case that the satellite ephemeris and beams / cells coverage information is provided, the AMF may also perform the mapping between the IDs of the countries / cells and the satellite coverage based on the satellite ephemeris.

[0091] S705: After verification of the actual / intended MBS area, the AMF transfers to the NG-RAN node an N2 signaling message carrying an N2 MBS Session Resource Setup Request / Modification. The message includes a New MBS area configuration message and the verified (and / or unverified) IDs of the countries / cells for MBS broadcasting.

[0092] S706: Based on the last N2 message received from the AMF, the NG-RAN provides the mapping information and the indication to enable broadcasting of MBS SIB or NTN SIB over the verified IDs of the countries / cells. Additionally, or alternatively, the NG-RAN restricts broadcasting MBS SIB or NTN SIB over the unverified IDs of the countries / cells. On the top of the indication, the NG-RAN node also provides MBS SIB configuration to UE within the satellite coverage associated with the verified IDs to allow the corresponding UE to receive MBS service.

[0093] S707: The NG-RAN reports to the AMF over N2 signaling message an N2 MBS Session Resource Setup Request / Modification which indicates the N3 Downlink (DL) Tunnel information of verified cells associated with IDs of the countries / cells.

[0094] S708: The AMF forward over N4mb / N4 a Session MBS Modification containing the N3 DL Tunnel information of verified cells associated with IDs of the countries / cells to the SMF, and the SMF forward it to the UPF.

[0095] S709: The UPF performs MBS broadcast media stream transfer message according to the  tunnel information of verified cells associated with IDs of the countries / cells.

[0096] In the embodiment associated with FIG. 7, the verification of the estimated MBS area against the intended MBS area may be performed by the core network (AMF / SMF) node, while the mapping-based estimation may be performed either by the RAN node or the core network node.

[0097] In the case the satellite coverage spans over multiple countries while the intended MBS area is one or several countries among them, the IDs of the countries / cells described above may be, for example but not limited to, PLMN identities, country codes, and / or geographical axis of the countries. In the case the satellite coverage spans over an entire country and while intended MBS area is a region within the country, the IDs of the countries / cells described above may be, for example but not limited to, Tracking area codes, RAN notification areas, a Cell Group and / or mapped cell identifiers.

[0098] FIG. 8 is a flow chart of an MBS broadcasting method of a NTN system in which the verification of MBS area is performed by the RAN. The detail of signaling and enhancement procedures for the embodiment show in FIG. 8 can be given below.

[0099] S801: The NG-RAN node receives an N2 MBS Session Resource Setup Request / Modification signaling message from AMF. The message carries an indication indicating a transmission mode of MBS broadcast service such as whether an MBS service or TMGI is to be delivered over TN or NTN access network. If the information indicates the MBS service or the TMGI is to be delivered over NTN access network, operations S801 to S806 may be performed. For the case the information indicates the MBS service or the TMGI is to be delivered over TN access network, please refer to descriptions with regard to FIG. 9. The message may also carry an intended MBS area configuration (e.g., a legacy MBS area configuration) configured by broadcasters.
