[0124] FIG. 1 schematically illustrates an example of a network 100 suitable for use with examples of the present disclosure. The network (also referred to as NW) comprises a plurality of network nodes including: terminal nodes 110 (also referred to as User Equipment, UE) , access nodes 120 (also referred to as a Base Station, BS) , and one or more core network nodes 130. The terminal nodes 110 and access nodes 120 communicate with each other. The one or more core network nodes 130 may, in some but not necessarily all examples, communicate with each other. The one or more access nodes 120 may, in some but not necessarily all examples, communicate with each other.
[0125] The network 100 is, in this example, a radio telecommunications network, i.e. a Radio Access Network, RAN, in which at least some of the terminal nodes 110 and access nodes 120 communicate with each other using transmission / reception of radio waves.
[0126] The network / RAN 100 may be a cellular network comprising a plurality of cells 122 each served by an access node 120. The access nodes 120 comprise cellular radio transceivers. The terminal nodes 110 comprise cellular radio transceivers.
[0127] In the particular example illustrated and discussed below, the network 100 is a New Radio, NR, network of the Third Generation Partnership Project, 3GPP, and its fifth generation, 5G, technology. In other examples, the network 100 may be a network beyond 5G, for example a next generation (i.e. sixth generation, 6G) Radio Network that is currently under development (i.e. an evolution of the NR network and its 5G technology) .
[0128] The interfaces between the terminal nodes 110 and the access nodes 120 are radio interfaces 124 (e.g., Uu interfaces) . The interfaces between the access nodes 120 and one or more core nodes 130 are backhaul interfaces 128 (e.g., S1 and / or Next Generation, NG, interfaces) . The interfaces between the one or more location servers 140 and the one or more core nodes 130 are backhaul interface 132 (e.g., NLs interface) .
[0129] Depending on the exact deployment scenario, the access nodes 120 may be RAN nodes such as NG-RAN nodes. NG-RAN nodes may be gNodeBs, gNBs, that provide NG user plane and control plane protocol terminations towards the UE. The gNBs connected by means of NG interfaces to a 5G Core (5GC) , more specifically to an Access and Mobility Management Function, AMF, by means of an NG Control Plane, NG-C, interface and to a User Plane Function, UPF, by means of an NG User Plane, NG-U, interface. The access nodes 120 may be interconnected with each other by means of Xn interfaces 126.
[0130] The cellular network 100 may be configured to operate in licensed frequency bands, or unlicensed frequency bands (not least such as: unlicensed bands that rely upon a transmitting device to sense the radio resources / medium before commencing transmission, such as via a Listen Before Talk, LBT, procedure; and a 60GHz unlicensed band where beamforming may be required in order to achieve required coverage) .
[0131] The access nodes 120 may be deployed in an NG standalone operation / scenario. The access nodes 120 may be deployed in a NG non-standalone operation / scenario. The access nodes 120 may be deployed in a Carrier Aggregation, CA, operation / scenario. The access nodes 120 may be deployed in a Dual Connectivity, DC, operation / scenario, i.e., Multi Radio Access Technology -Dual Connectivity, MR-DC, or NR-DC. The access nodes 120 may be deployed in a Multi Connectivity, MC, operation / scenario.
[0132] In such non-standalone / dual connectivity deployments, the access nodes 120 may be interconnected to each other by means of X2 or Xn interfaces, and connected to an Evolved Packet Core, EPC, by means of an S1 interface or to the 5GC by means of a NG interface.
[0133] The access nodes 120 are network elements in the network responsible for radio transmission and reception in one or more cells 122 to or from the terminal nodes 110. The access nodes 120 are the network termination of a radio link. Each access node may host one or more Transmission Reception Points, TRPs.
[0134] An access node 120 may be implemented as a single network equipment, or have a split architecture that is disaggregated / distributed over two or more RAN nodes, such as a Central Unit, CU, a Distributed Unit, DU, a Remote Radio Head-end, RRH, using different functional-split architectures and different interfaces.
[0135] The terminal nodes 110 are network elements in the network that terminate the user side of the radio link. They are devices allowing access to network services. Terminal node 110 functionalities may be performed also by Mobile Termination, MT, part of an Integrated Access and Backhaul, IAB, node. The terminal nodes 110 may be referred to as User Equipment, UE, mobile terminals or mobile stations.
[0136] The term ‘User Equipment’ may be used to designate mobile equipment comprising means, such as a smart card, for authentication / encryption etc. such as a Subscriber Identity Module, SIM. A SIM / SIM card can be a memory chip, a module, or a Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) . In some examples, the term ‘User Equipment’ can be used to designate a location / position tag, a hyper / smart, a hyper / smart sensor, or a mobile equipment comprising circuitry embedded as part of the user equipment for authentication / encryption such as a software SIM.
[0137] In the following description:
[0138] a terminal node may be referred to simply as a UE 110;
[0139] an access node or a RAN node may be referred to simply as a gNB or BS 120;
[0140] and
[0141] a node of the network (not least such as a UE, or BS) may be referred to simply as network node, NW node) .
[0142] Before describing example embodiments in detail, there now follows a discussion of an evolution of duplexing operation in New Radio, NR, called Sub-Band non-overlapping Full Duplexing, SBFD, and also a discussion of a Cross Link Interference, CLI, such as UE-to-UE CLI, that can arise under SBFD deployment.
[0143] 3rd Generation Partnership Project, 3GPP, 5G NR currently supports two duplexing modes: Frequency Division Duplex, FDD, for paired bands and Time Division Duplex, TDD, for unpaired bands. In TDD a time domain resource is split between downlink and uplink. Allocation of a limited time duration for the uplink in TDD would result in reduced coverage, increased latency and reduced capacity.
[0144] SBFD is an evolution of NR duplexing operation which allows simultaneous downlink, DL, and uplink, UL, transmission on different physical resource blocks, PRBs, within an unpaired wideband NR cell a simultaneous existence of downlink and uplink, i.e. full duplex, at a gNB side within a conventional TDD band. The set of PRBs assigned to a specific link direction is known as a subband and such duplexing is denoted as subband non-overlapping full duplex “SBFD” . SBFD may also be referred to as flexible full duplex, FDU.
[0145] Transmission slots can thus have both non-overlapping downlink, DL, sub-bands and uplink, UL, sub-band (s) . These slots are called SBFD slots. However, there can also be slots where an entire band is used for either DL or UL, i.e., non-SBFD slots.
[0146] There can be two slot types for both DL and UL transmissions, namely:
[0147] ● Non-SBFD slots, during which the entire band is used for either DL or UL (i.e. legacy / full DL / UL slots) .
[0148] ● SBFD slots, during which the non-overlapping DL subbands and UL subband (s) both exist.
[0149] SBFD introduces several Cross Link Interference, CLI, types called co-channel inter-subband and co-channel intra-subband CLI.
[0150] FIG. 2 schematically illustrates various co-channel inter-sub-band CLI and co-channel intra-subband CLI.
[0151] FIG. 2 schematically illustrates 4 types of CLI that may arise in SBFD deployment with the same frequency domain partitioning, i.e. non-overlapping frequency resources, namely:
[0152] 1. gNB self-interference
[0153] 2. intra-cell UE-to-UE co-channel inter-sub-band CLI
[0154] 3. inter-cell UE-to-UE co-channel inter-sub-band CLI (from non-overlapping frequency resources)
[0155] 4. inter-cell gNB-to-gNB co-channel inter-sub-band CLI (from non-overlapping frequency resources)
[0156] Furthermore, besides the above-mentioned CLI types, in the case of different frequency domain partitioning in neighbouring cells, a system may also suffer from co-channel CLI from transmissions on overlapping frequency resources. In this regard, FIG. 2 also schematically illustrates 2 types of CLI that may arise in SBFD deployment with different frequency domain partitioning, i.e. overlapping frequency resources, namely:
[0157] 5. inter-cell gNB-to-gNB co-channel intra-subband CLI (from overlapping frequency resources)
[0158] 6. inter-cell UE-to-UE intra-subband co-channel CLI (from overlapping frequency resources)
[0159] The issue of UE-to-UE CLI may occur in dynamic TDD deployments, in which cells can select the TDD frame configuration in an uncoordinated manner. CLI may be present in a deployment if a given slot is chosen to have opposite link directions for 2 or more gNBs. In this case, the CLI is generated at a neighbour cell and therefore we typically refer to it as inter-cell UE-to-UE CLI.
[0160] In SBFD operation, not only do the inter-cell UEs cause CLI, but it is also possible to have intra-cell UEs causing CLI, depending on the leakage of the transmissions in the UL sub-band of the aggressor UE into the DL sub-band of another UE.
[0161] FIG. 3 schematically illustrates UE-to-UE CLI. In particular, FIG. 3 schematically illustrates various UE-to-UE co-channel cross-link interference types in SBFD deployment
[0162] FIG. 3 shows a part of a network 100’, comprising UEs 110 and access nodes 120.
[0163] Intra-cell UE-to-UE co-channel inter-sub-band CLI ( “2” from FIG. 2) is schematically shown between a victim UE 110_2 and aggressor UE 110_1 (wherein both UEs are served by the same gNB 120_1) .
[0164] Inter-cell UE-to-UE co-channel inter-sub-band CLI ( “3” or “6” from FIG. 2) is schematically shown between the victim UE 110_2 and aggressor UE 110_4 (wherein the UEs are served by differing gNBs 120_1 and 120_2) .
[0165] There now follows a discussion of CLI measurements.
[0166] In Release-16, a UE-to-UE CLI measurement framework was introduced to support dynamic Time Division Duplexing, TDD. In Release-16, 2 types of UE-to-UE cross-link interference measurements were standardized. One CLI measurement comprises measuring Reference Signal Received Power, RSRP, of a Sounding Reference Signal SRS, also known as SRS-RSRP. The other CLI measurement comprises measuring Reference Signal Strength Indicator, RSSI, of a given set of resources, also known as CLI-RSSI.
[0167] The SRS-RSRP may be defined (as per in Release-16) as a linear average of power contributions (in [W] ) of resource elements carrying SRSs. SRS-RSRP may be measured over configured resource elements within a considered measurement frequency bandwidth in configured measurement time occasions.
[0168] The CLI-RSSI may be defined (as per in Release-16) as a linear average of a total received power (in [W] ) observed only in configured OFDM symbols of configured measurement time resource (s) , in a configured measurement bandwidth from all sources, including co-channel serving and non-serving cells, adjacent channel interference, thermal noise etc.
[0169] Conventionally, (as per in Release-16) for CLI-RSSI, a UE is configured, via higher layer signaling, e.g. Layer 3, L3, signaling such as RRC signaling, with a set of continuous resources in which it is expected to measure. The configuration of the resources can be as per the RSSI-ResourceConfigCLI field descriptions set out in 3GPP TS 38.331 V16.15.1.
[0170] Essentially, currently, a UE is configured, via RRC messages, based on a start PRB, a number of PRBs (i.e., the bandwidth of the measurements) , and a number of symbols that spans the measurements.
[0171] In this regard, currently, CLI-RSSI measurement resources are configured, via RRC messages, by certain time, frequency and periodicity (among others) . Similarly, SRS-RSRP measurement resources are configured, via RRC messages, following certain SRSConfig which is also periodic.
[0172] Using such periodic measurement resources might lead to a problem in that the periodic measurement resources may not necessary overlap with actual PUSCH allocations of aggressor UEs. This can be referred to as “CLI misdetection” . This can therefore lead to a wrong / inaccurate estimation of CLI conditions as shown in FIG. 4.
[0173] FIG. 4 schematically illustrates periodic CLI-RSSI measurements and potential "CLI misdetection” in SBFD deployment. Here, a UE (e.g. such as UE#2 of FIG. 3) , is configured to periodically measure CLI-RSSI (namely, in the example shown, in slots 1, 3 and 5 …)
[0174] In this example, in the first slot, there are no scheduled UL PUSCH transmissions that overlap with the configured periodic CLI-RSSI measurement resources. In this regard, UL PUSCH transmissions from other UEs, e.g. UE#1 and UE#3 of FIG. 3, do not overlap with the (first) periodic CLI-RSSI measurement. Accordingly, there would be no CLI measured. Similarly, in the fifth slot, there are no UL PUSCH transmissions that overlap with the (third) configured CLI-RSSI measurement. Hence there would be no CLI measured. Only in the third slot, is there a partial overlap between an UL PUSH (namely PUSCH UE#1) and the (second) periodic CLI-RSSI measurement.
[0175] Using periodic measurement resources (e.g. CLI-RSSI resources) for victim / CLI measuring UEs can thus lead to a problem in that the periodic measurement resources may not necessary overlap with actual PUSCH allocations of resources of aggressor UEs. This can therefore lead to “CLI misdetection” and a wrong / inaccurate estimation of CLI conditions as shown in FIG. 4.
[0176] If the CLI-RSSI resources were configured to fully contain an UL subband, this would not provide CLI information about an individual aggressor UE. L3 measurements do not provide time-domain information and therefore a gNB receiving L3 CLI measurements reports would not be able to estimate which UE is an aggressor / the most interfering UE. Moreover, the averaging of the measured CLI-RSSI over the configured resources might lead to a determination of low CLI level in cases where the aggressor UE allocation comprises a small portion of the configured CLI-RSS resources.
[0177] In SBFD deployment, CLI can be generated due to intra-cell transmissions (see interference component #2 in FIG. 2) . Thus, it would be advantageous for a gNB to know CLI on a Transmission Time Interval, TTI, or slot level granularity. A gNB is aware of UL allocations in its own cell, and therefore it could deduce which UEs in its cell were transmitting at a time that the measurements were performed / conducted.
[0178] It is desirable for a serving gNB to be aware of DL UE CLI conditions such that it can apply one or more CLI mitigation schemes. Therefore, it is desirable for CLI measurements to be performed and reported to the gNB for optimal SBFD operation.
[0179] Various examples of the present disclosure propose methods and apparatuses for configuring CLI measurement resources.
[0180] In some, but not necessarily all, examples of the present disclosure CLI measurement resources, including time and frequency domain resources for measuring CLI, can be configured so as to ensure that the resources overlap with certain UL transmissions.
[0181] Some, but not necessarily all, examples of the present disclosure relate to UE-to-UE CLI measurement and reporting. Some, but not necessarily all, examples of the present disclosure relate to configuring a UE to perform CLI measurements and report the same.
[0182] The figures, namely FIGs. 5 –11, illustrate an apparatus 10, 110 comprising: means 11 for receiving 501, via physical layer signaling from an access node 120, configuration information 502 for configuring the apparatus to:
[0183] perform at least one crosslink interference, CLI, measurement on at least one first resource 503, and
[0184] report the at least one CLI measurement via at least one second resource 504; means 11 for causing performance 505 of the at least one CLI measurement based at least in part on the configuration information; and
[0185] means 11 for causing reporting 506 the at least one CLI measurement based at least in part on the configuration information.
[0186] FIG. 5 schematically illustrates a flow chart of an example of a method 500 in accordance with the present disclosure.
[0187] The component blocks of FIG. 5 are functional and the functions described can be performed by a single physical entity (such as an apparatus as described with reference to FIG. 11) . The functions described can also be implemented by a computer program (such as described with reference to FIG. 12) . FIG. 5 can be considered to illustrate a plurality of methods, in the sense that FIG. 5 can be considered to illustrate one or more actions performed by / at a plurality of actors / entities, e.g. a (victim) UE 110 and a (serving) gNB 120. FIG. 5 can therefore be considered to illustrate a plurality of individual methods performed by each respective individual actor / entity of the plurality of the actors / entities.
[0188] The blocks illustrated in FIG. 5 can represent actions in a method, functionality performed by an apparatus, and / or sections of instructions / code in the computer program.
[0189] In block 501, a UE 110 receives configuration information 502 from an access node 120. The configuration information is received via physical layer signaling, i.e. Layer 1, L1 signaling such as DCI.
[0190] The configuration information 502 comprises information for configuring the UE to perform a CLI measurement on a first resource 503.
[0191] In some examples, the CLI measurement that the UE is configured to perform is at least one of the following:
[0192] a UE-to-UE CLI measurement (such as “2” , “3” or “6” of FIG. 2) ;
[0193] an aperiodic CLI measurement;
[0194] a signal strength measurement of one or more signals received on the first resource (e.g. CLI-RSSI –an example of which is discussed below with respect to FIG. 8) ; or
[0195] a power measurement of a reference signal (e.g. SRS-RSRP–an example of which is discussed below with respect to FIG. 9) .
[0196] The first resource may be at least one time domain resource and / or frequency domain resource. In this regard, the first resource effectively defines when (i.e. at what temporal location) and at what frequency / frequency range the UE is to perform a CLI measurement.
[0197] In some examples, the first resource comprises at least one of the following:
[0198] a time domain resource on which the CLI measurement is to be performed;
[0199] a time domain location at which the CLI measurement is to be performed;
[0200] a time duration during which the CLI measurement is to be performed;
[0201] a frequency domain resource on which the CLI measurement is to be performed; or
[0202] one or more reference signal resources (e.g. time / frequency information to enable the UE to determine when and where to measure the RS and a sequence ID to be able to measure the RSRP of the RS. Such RS resources may include time domain information for the RS [starting position within a slot, number of symbols (duration) ] , frequency domain information for the RS [frequency domain offset, bandwidth, transmission comb] , and / or sequence identifier) .
[0203] In some examples, rather than the one or more reference signal resources being provided to the UE by the gNB via the configuration information 502 received via L1 signaling such as DCI, instead the gNB could indicate a trigger state, via DCI, which points to a pre-configured SRS configuration, e.g. preconfigured via RRC.
[0204] In some examples, the configuration information comprises one or more parameters for configuring the performance of the CLI measurement. The one or more parameters may relate to indicating one or more of:
[0205] a temporal location of when the CLI measurement is to start (e.g. a “startPosition” parameter) ,
[0206] a temporal range / duration of the CLI measurement (e.g. a “nrofSymbols” parameter)
[0207] a frequency location where the CLI measurement is to start (e.g. a “startPRB” parameter) , and
[0208] a frequency range / bandwidth of the CLI measurement (e.g. a “nrofPRBs” parameter) .
[0209] The use of physical layer, L1, signaling (e.g. DCI) to configure the UE to perform a CLI measurement advantageously may enable the performance of aperiodic CLI measurements. It also may permit faster / more dynamic configuration of CLI measurements, e.g. on a TTI or slot level granularity.
[0210] In some examples, the UE is pre-configured with periodic resources for periodically transmitting a reference signal, such as SRS. In this regard, the UE may have previously received, e.g. not least for example via RRC signalling, configuration information for configuring the UE with periodic resources for periodically transmitting the reference signal. In which case, in some examples, the configuration information 502, received in block 501 via L1 signaling, for configuring the apparatus to perform the CLI measurement may comprise configuration information for configuring the apparatus to not transmit the reference signal on one of the periodic resources and instead perform the CLI measurement on said one periodic resource. In this regard, the configuration information 502, received in block 501 via L1 signaling, may in effect override the previously configured periodic transmission of a reference signal via assigned / scheduled periodic resources and instead used one of the assigned / scheduled periodic resources as a first resource 103 for performing the CLI measurement. FIG. 10 as discussed below describes an example of such re- configuring / re-utilization of previously configured assigned / scheduled periodic resources.
[0211] The configuration information 502 also comprises information for configuring the UE to report the CLI measurement via a second resource 504. The second resource may be at least one time domain resource and / or frequency domain resource. In this regard, the second resource effectively defines when (i.e. at what temporal location) and at what frequency / frequency range the UE is to report the measurement.
[0212] In some examples, the second resource comprises at least one of the following:
[0213] a time domain resource with which the CLI measurement is to be reported;
[0214] a time domain location at which the CLI measurement is to be reported; and
[0215] a frequency domain resource with which the CLI measurement is to be reported.
[0216] In some examples, the configuration information comprises an indication of the second resource via which the CLI measurement is to be reported. In some examples, the configuration information comprises one or more parameters for configuring the reporting of the CLI measurement. The one or more parameters may relate to indicating one or more of:
[0217] a temporal location of when the CLI measurement is to be reported,
[0218] a frequency location where the CLI measurement is to be reported,
[0219] a type of report to be reported (e.g. a “reportType” parameter) , and
[0220] a metric to be reported (e.g. a “measurementMetric” parameter) .
[0221] In some examples, the configuration information 502, comprising an indication of measurement resources 503 and reporting resources 504 is conveyed to the UE via a single physical layer / L1 message. In some examples, the configuration information 502 is conveyed to the UE via two or more physical layer / L1 messages, for instance, a first L1 message comprising an indication of measurement resources 503, and a second L1 message comprising an indication of reporting resources 504.
[0222] The use of physical layer, L1, signaling (e.g. DCI) to configure the UE to report CLI measurements advantageously may enable the performance of aperiodic CLI measurement reporting. It also may permit faster / more dynamic configuration of CLI measurement reporting, e.g. on a TTI or slot level granularity.
[0223] In some examples, the physical layer signaling for transmitting the configuration information is scrambled using an identifier, e.g. an identifier for providing unique UE identification (e.g. a temporary radio network identifier such as a Cell Radio Network Temporary Identifier, C-RNTI) or an identifier for identifying / associated with a group of UEs
[0224] In some examples, the configuration information is conveyed to the UE via DCI. In this regard, the DCI may:
[0225] 1) indicate resources for CLI measurement purposes; and
[0226] 2) indicate resources for CLI reporting purposes
[0227] In some examples a new DCI format may be employed in this regard. For instance, by way of a non-limiting example, DCI format 5_0 whose usage is notifying of CLI measurement and reporting to one or more UEs.
[0228] In some examples a modified legacy DCI format may be employed. In this regard, a legacy DCI format could be used that includes an indicator for indicating to the UE that time / frequency resources indicated in the DCI are to be used for one of CLI measurement or reporting. The legacy DCI format could be further modified to include an indication of time / frequency resources to be used for the other of CLI measurement or reporting.
[0229] In block 505, the UE performs the CLI measurement in accordance with the configuration information received in block 501. In this regard, the UE performs the CLI measurement on the configured first resource.
[0230] In block 506, the UE reports the CLI measurement in accordance with the configuration information received in block 501. In this regard, the UE reports the CLI measurement, via the configured second resource, to the access node.
[0231] In some examples, the CLI measurement is reported via physical layer signaling, such as uplink control information, UCI.
[0232] In some examples, the gNB applies an interference mitigation scheme based at least in part on the received CLI measurement report. In this regard, the gNB may adjust an operational mode of SBFD based at least in part on the received at least one CLI measurement.
[0233] In some examples, such as is shown with respect to FIG. 7, in order to avoid “CLI misdetection” and ensure that a CLI measurement is performed on resources that overlap with a PUCH transmission from a particular (aggressor) UE (i.e. so as to enable a determination of the amount of interference of an aggressor UE on a victim UE, wherein both the UEs are served by the gNB) , the gNB can send, via physical layer signaling, configuration information to the aggressor UE for configuring the aggressor UE to transmit a transmission via the first resource 503. In this regard, the aggressor UE is scheduled to transmit via the same resources that the victim UE is configured with (in block 501) to measure CLI.
[0234] FIG. 6 and FIG. 7 schematically illustrate an examples of a scheme for overlapping PUSCH and CLI measurements to enable a gNB 120 to determine how much CLI is created by a UL PUSCH transmission from a first (aggressor) UE 110_1 on one or more second (victim) UEs 110_2.
[0235] The gNB uses an UL DCI, scrambled with a C-RNTI for the first UE 110_1 (akth UE in the gNB’s cell) to indicate, to the first UE 110_1, resources for uplink transmission over UL subbands.
[0236] The gNB uses a DCI, in this example an UL DCI 502, (either a new DCI format, or an existing DCI with a new purpose as will be discussed further below) , wherein the UL DCI 502 is not to schedule a DL / UL transmission (as legacy) but instead is to indicate, to the one or more second UEs 110_2, at least one aperiodic CLI measurement. In this regard, the UL DCI 502 may indicate, to the one or more second (victim) UEs 110_2, a “copy” of the previous UL allocation, i.e. the resources for uplink transmission over UL subbands indicated in the UL DCI for the first (aggressor) UE. In this regard, such resources indicated in the UL DLI 502 correspond to measurement resources 503 for performing one or more CLI measurements.
[0237] The one or more second UEs 110_2 may be duly notified via the UL DCI 502 (which may be scrambled with a C-RNTI or a CLI-RNTI as discussed further below) then perform the CLI measurements on the assigned resources.
[0238] The DCI 502 also includes further configuration information about the resources 504 to be used for CLI reporting, together with other reporting-related parameters.
[0239] As mentioned above, the DCI 502 (that indicates the configuration information for configuring the one or more second UEs 110_2 to measure and report CLI) can be a new DCI format, or an existing (albeit modified) DCI could be re-used.
[0240] New DCI format
[0241] In some examples, a new DCI format is specified, e.g. in the standards, that is exclusively used for CLI purposes. By way of a non-limiting example, a new DCI could be added to TS 38.212:
[0242] DCI format 5_0
[0243] Usage Notifying of CLI measurements and reporting to one or more UE.
[0244] Such a DCI, e.g., DCI format 5_0, would comprise information, at least, about the CLI measurement resources 503 and CLI reporting resources 504. For instance, a time domain location where a measured CLI is reported is indicated by, e.g., a CLI-to-report parameter. This parameter may also indicate the time duration from an indicated CLI measurement resource (or the slot containing an indicated CLI measurement resource) to the reporting resource (or the slot containing the reporting resource) .
[0245] The DCI can be either UE-specific, e.g. if it were scrambled with C-RNTI, or it could be a group-common DCI. For the latter, a new RNTI could be used that notifies a set of UEs, such an RNTI may be referred to as cross link interference, “CLI-RNTI” . This new RNTI may be added to already specified RNTIs such as: Slot Format Indication Radio Network Temporary Identifier SFI-RNTI, Semi-Persistent CSI Radio Network Temporary Identifier SP-RNTI, etc.
[0246] Re-using existing DCI formats
[0247] Existing DCI formats (both existing UL DCIs and existing DL DCIs) can be reused with the following modifications / additions to support the CLI measurements:
[0248] a. Addition of an identifier, such as a flag or 1-bit indication, to signal that the received DCI is for CLI purposes, i.e. for CLI measurement and reporting. This is useful for UE-specific DCIs (scrambled with C-RNTI) . Alternatively, the existing DCI can be scrambled with the above-mentioned defined CLI-RNTI such that the UE (or UEs) that receive (s) the DCI know that the DCI contains information about the CLI measurements and report.
[0249] b. Addition of new configuration information or parameters for, at least, indicating the time-frequency resources for CLI measurements or CLI reporting. Normally, existing DCIs only schedule one set of resources for transmissions. E. g., DCI format 0_1 points to specific time and frequency resources for scheduled PUSCH transmission. If DCI format 0_1 were used for CLI purposes, the existing time / frequency assignment could be used to indicate the resources for the CLI reporting (i.e. reporting resources 504) but additional parameters are required for indicating the CLI measurements resources 503.
[0250] Aperiodic CSI-RS reporting is currently supported in NR, wherein a UE can measure CSI-RS “on-demand” upon the reception of a UL DCI (DCI format 0_1) . This DCI contains the field “CSI Request” and contains an index that points to one of the pre-configured CSI-RS in CSI-AperiodicTriggerStateList. The DCI thereby contains information about the measurement resources and measurement configuration to measure CSI-RS. The DCI also contains the information needed to indicate which resources the UE is to use for sending the CSI report. For instance, time information (i.e., k2 parameter) is indicated by a “time domain resource assignment” . More details about aperiodic CSI-RS can be found in TS 38.214, Section 5.2.3.
[0251] The UL DCI (DCI format 0_1) for supporting aperiodic CSI-RS reporting, can be modified as discussed above so as to support aperiodic CLI measurement and reporting.
[0252] Differently from aperiodic CSI-RS framework, CLI measurement resources can dynamically change depending on an UL allocation of a aggressor UE. Therefore, the (modified) DCI for CLI measurement and reporting should:
[0253] 1) point to measurement resources 503 and
[0254] 2) indicate the resources 504 for transmitting the report.
[0255] The latter aspect can be supported using the same principle as for the aperiodic CSI-RS measurements. New parameters indicating a time and frequency allocation of a PUSCH to be measured (e.g. PUSCH transmission from an aggressor UE) is included in the DCI. These new parameters are used by the measuring UE to configure aperiodic CLI-RSSI measurement resources, not least such as: startPosition, nrOfSymbols, startPRB, and nrofPRBs of the CLI-RSSI measurement configuration.
[0256] The gNB can use:
[0257] a new DCI for CLI purpose,
[0258] an existing DCI (for example an existing UL DCI or an existing DL DCI) scrambled with C-RNTI (for individual UE configuration) with 1-bit indication for CLI measurements, or
[0259] an existing DCI (for example an existing UL DCI or an existing DL DCI) scrambled with CLI-RNTI (for group of UEs configuration) .
[0260] DCI Format 0_1 could be used for triggering CLI-RSSI measurements. Conventionally, this DCI is used to schedule PUSCH. However, when modified, e.g. properly indicated, it could be used for CLI measurements triggering. Among the configuration defined in the DCI, the PUSCH time and frequency resources are defined by the field: frequency domain resource assignment and time domain resource assignment, respectively. These legacy parameters would then be used to allocate the PUSCH transmission resources that is to contain the CLI measurement report, i.e. the CLI reporting resources 504. New fields, e.g., “frequency domain CLI resource assignment” and “time domain CLI resource assignment” can be added to the DCI and used to indicate the measurement resources 503.
[0261] It is notes that in current specification, a CLI-RSSI configuration is assumed to be contiguous in time and frequency. Thus, it can be assumed that an aggressor PUSCH allocation is also contiguous in time and frequency (i.e., Type 1 frequency allocation) . However, with enhancements to the CLI-RSSI measurement resources currently being considered in 3GPP, one could also have CLI-RSSI resources are not necessarily contiguous in time and frequency. Therefore, in some possible examples, non-contiguous PUSCH allocation (i.e., Type 0 frequency allocation) could also be used with examples of the present disclosure.
[0262] In some examples, the details of the CLI reporting are pre-configured via RRC. In this regard, a gNB configures different reporting parameters individually for each reporting configuration. In some examples, the following parameters are defined via RRC: reportType, measurementMetric, wideband or subband measurements, guardBand measurement resources, spatial information, etc. The DCI would then then point to one of the possible reporting configurations via a “CLI request” field.
[0263] FIG. 8 schematically illustrates dynamic CLI-RSSI allocation based on DCI.
[0264] As schematically illustrated in the upper part of FIG. 8, a first UE is assigned PUSCH resources via a DCI indication. This can be done in a conventional / legacy manner.
[0265] As schematically illustrated in the lower part of FIG. 8, UE #2 is assigned CLI measurement resources 505 (which correspond in time and frequency resources to the time and frequency resources assigned for UE #1’s PUSCH transmission) and CLI reporting resources 506 via DCI indication 502. In this regard, the DCI indication 502 provides an explicit indication of time and frequency resources for the CLI measuring and reporting.
[0266] FIG. 9 schematically illustrates aperiodic SRS-RSRP measurements based on DCI.
[0267] As schematically illustrated in the upper part of FIG. 9, UE #1 is configured to transmit an aperiodic SRS via a DCI indication.
[0268] As schematically illustrated in the lower part of FIG. 9, UE #2 is configured with CLI measurement resources 505 (which correspond in time and frequency resources to the time and frequency resources for UE #1’s aperiodic SRS transmission) and CLI reporting resources 506 via DCI indication 502.
[0269] In some examples, the DCI indication 502 provides an explicit indication of time and frequency resources for the CLI measuring and reporting.
[0270] In some examples, instead of relying on PUSCH resources for measuring CLI-RSSI, the DCI could point to specific SRS resources and measure the SRS-RSRP.
[0271] In some examples, a gNB use the following options to trigger an aperiodic SRS-based CLI measurements:
[0272] - use a new DCI format; or
[0273] - use an existing DCI scrambled with a CLI-RNTI so that the notified UE (s) understand that this is not an aperiodic SRS trigger but an aperiodic SRS-RSRP measurement triggering; or
[0274] - use an existing DCI scrambled with a C-RNTI and add a new field (1-bit) to inform whether the SRS is for CLI measurements or legacy SRS transmission.
[0275] With regards to an indication of the measurement resources, in some examples the gNB could:
[0276] - Re-use an “SRS request” field to point to SRS-RSRP measurements resources. If an existing DCI is used, this could be signaled in combination with one of the indications above, otherwise the UE would assume that an aperiodic SRS transmission is triggered. This field is present in existing UL and DL DCIs (see TS 38.212 Table 7.3.1.1.2-24) .
[0277] - Add a “CLI SRS-RSRP request field” in the new DCI format.
[0278] With regards to an indication of the reporting resources, in some examples the gNB could:
[0279] - include time and frequency assignments in the new DCI about which resources should include the report. E. g., a field “CLI-to-report” could indicate a time duration from an SRS measurements resource (or a slot containing an indicated SRS measurement resource) to a reporting resource (or a slot containing a reporting resource) . Alternatively, time / frequency assignments as for UL DCI could be part of the new DCI.
[0280] - if existing UL DCI is used -the time / frequency assignment field in UL DCIs could be re-used to point to PUSCH resources that would include the CLI report.
[0281] - if existing DL DCI is used, -the time resources of the DL DCI can be indicated to be reused by re-interpreting the existing “PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback” field. Thus, instead of indicating where the HARQ feedback shall be transmitted, the UE interprets it as a time interval (number of symbols) between performing a CLI measurement and reporting the CLI measurement. The frequency resources for CLI reporting can be indicated by a “PUCCH resource indicator” field. The reporting of the CLI measurement can occur on the resources indicated by the time / frequency assignment of the DL DCI.
[0282] In some examples, the gNB points to a specific configuration on how exactly the UE shall perform the SRS-RSRP measurements. This configuration can include an indication of: measuring beam, allow for measurements over the guardbands, report absolute power or power ratio (UL subband / guardband) , measurement scaling factor to derive leakage interference, etc…
[0283] With regards to an indication of the measurement / report configuration, in some examples the gNB:
[0284] - points to a pre-configured set of RRC parameters, e.g., new SRS-CLIReportInfo IE.
[0285] - the DCI would include a pointer to one of the RRC configurations.
[0286] In an implementation of performing aperiodic SRS CLI measurements and reporting, an aggressor UE would receive an aperiodic SRS trigger via DCI (as supported by legacy) . One or more victim UE (s) would receive an indication of aperiodic SRS measurements over the specific SRS resources. In this implementation, it is expected that the network pre-configured SRS trigger states among the UEs so as to have at least one common configuration to ensure that the measuring resources overlap with the aperiodic SRS transmissions.
[0287] FIG. 10 schematically illustrates using a DCI indication to turn a periodic SRS transmission into a “zero-power” SRS (ZP-SRS) and measure CLI in the resources assigned for one of the periodic SRS transmissions.
[0288] In this implementation, a gNB configures the same periodic SRS resources (periodicity, offset, comb, duration, etc…) for a group of K UEs. In the example shown, K = 3, i.e. the group consist of UE #1, UE#2 UE#3. It is noted that this configuration might not be optimal for legacy purposes of SRS transmissions (channel estimation, beam management, etc.. ) but is of use / interesting from UE-to-UE CLI measurements point of view.
[0289] To perform the CLI measurements, the gNB uses a new DCI to notify a sub-set of the UEs (K-1 UEs) , to mute their periodic SRS transmission and instead perform CLI measurements on the same resources. In other words, an initially configured SRS transmission, which is referred to as a non-zero power SRS (NZP-SRS) , is turned into zero-power (ZP-SRS) via a DCI indication. The new DCI could include, for example, a field “ZP SRS indicator” for such purpose. This new configuration could then apply to the next SRS transmission occurrence (given its periodicity) . The notified UEs assume that they shall measure SRS-RSRP on those resources (ZP-SRS resources) .
[0290] The measuring UEs may be fully aware of which resources are to be measured since they were initially configured with the SRS resource configuration.
[0291] By causing the performance of such measurements and receiving measurement reports of the same, the gNB can know an individual CLI generated by a kth UE towards K-1 UEs in the group.
[0292] The gNB could, in each SRS occurrence, choose a different set of UEs to be notified in order to determine a mapping of per-UE intra-cell UE-to-UE.
[0293] In some examples, the DCI 502 also includes information on which resources shall be used for the CLI reporting. The reporting could occur before the next SRS occurrence, or after SRS-RSRP occurrences (and potentially several SRS-RSRP measurements) . In the latter case, the UE shall report a slot index together with each CLI measurement.
[0294] As shown in FIG. 10, in one occurrence, the gNB (wanting to know how much CLI is created by UE#1) dynamically indicates to UE#2 and UE#3, via DCI indication 502_1 502_2, to mute their next SRS transmission and instead perform a CLI measurement 505_1 505_2. The gNB also dynamically indicates to UE#2 and UE#3, via DCI indication (not shown) CLI reporting resources to be used for reporting their respective CLI measurements (not shown) .
[0295] Likewise, the gNB (wanting to know how much CLI is created by UE#2) dynamically indicates to UE#1 and UE#3, via DCI indication 502_3 502_4, to mute their next SRS transmission and instead perform a CLI measurement 505_3 505_4. The gNB also dynamically indicates to UE#1 and UE#3, via DCI indication (not shown) CLI reporting resources to be used for reporting their respective CLI measurements (not shown) .
[0296] FIG. 11 schematically illustrates a block diagram of an apparatus 10 for performing the methods, processes, procedures and signalling described in the present disclosure and illustrated in FIGs. 5 -10. In this regard the apparatus can perform the roles of a UE 110 or a gNB 120, in the methods illustrated and described. The component blocks of FIG. 11 are functional and the functions described can be performed by a single physical entity.
[0297] The apparatus comprises a controller 11, which could be provided within a device such as a UE 110 or a gNB 120.
[0298] The controller 11 can be embodied by a computing device, not least such as those mentioned above. In some, but not necessarily all examples, the apparatus can be embodied as a chip, chip set, circuitry or module, i.e. for use in any of the foregoing. The apparatus 10 can, for example be a module. The controller 11 of the apparatus 10 can, for example be a module.
[0299] As used here ‘module’ refers to a unit or apparatus that excludes certain parts / components that would be added by an end manufacturer or a user.
[0300] Implementation of the controller 11 can be as controller circuitry. The controller 11 can be implemented in hardware alone, have certain aspects in software including firmware alone or can be a combination of hardware and software (including firmware) .
[0301] The controller 11 can be implemented using instructions that enable hardware functionality, for example, by using executable instructions of a computer program 14 in a general-purpose or special-purpose processor 12 that can be stored on a computer readable storage medium 13, for example memory, or disk etc, to be executed by such a processor 12.
[0302] The processor 12 is configured to read from and write to the memory 13.
