[0062] In Long Term Evolution (LTE) Femto, also called Home enhanced Node B (HeNB) or 4G Femtos, a Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) identifies a group of subscribers who are permitted or allowed to access one or more CSG cells of a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) identified by a CSG ID (s) . A CSG cell may be considered to be a cell broadcasting one or several CSG IDs. According to some examples, a CSG ID is a 27 bitstring. A base station hosting CSG cells may be considered to be a HeNB or 4G / LTE Femto base station. A CSG membership of a UE may be configured in the user subscription data and on the UE. If a UE tries to connect to a CSG cell, the network checks (e.g., at a Mobility Management Entity (MME) or at an  Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) whether the UE is allowed to do so considering the subscription data.

[0063] 5G systems may be deployed alongside 4G femtos. Mobility from 5G to 4G femtos is therefore an issue. Some examples described herein provide a method for provisioning a CSG list of one or more CSG identifiers for a UE to a core network node such as an AMF. The core network node can use the CSG list to manage mobility between 5G and 4G femtos.

[0064] Further, it is envisaged to introduce 5G Home gNB (HgNB) , also known as 5G femtos. In a closed access mode of a HgNB cell, only certain subscribers are allowed to access the cell, similar to HeNBs. To enable this mode of operation, the 5G concept of Closed Access Group (CAG) identifies a group of subscribers who are permitted / allowed to access one or more CAG cells associated to the CAG ID. A CAG cell is a cell broadcasting one or several CAG IDs. The CAG concept is similar to the CSG concept in LTE but was originally introduced in the context of Public Network Integrated-Non-Public Networks (PNI-NPNs) to prevent UE (s) , which are not allowed to access the NPN via the associated cell (s) from automatically selecting and accessing the associated CAG cell (s) . CAG based access control was introduced in 3GPP Release-16. A CAG ID may be a 32 bitstring.

[0065] In view of the deployment of 5G femto (e.g., in 3GPP Release 19) , mobility from HgNB cells using CAG cells to HeNBs using CSG cells and vice-versa can be considered. Some examples described herein provide a method for provisioning a CSG list of one or more CSG identifiers for a UE to a core network node such as an AMF. The core network node can use the CSG list to manage mobility between 5G femtos and 4G femtos.

[0066] Some examples describe a mechanism for providing a list of one or more CSG IDs to a core network node such as an AMF, Unified Data Repository (UDR) or Unified Data Management (UDM) . According to some examples, the core network node may be of a first network node using a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) , for example a 5G RAT, and the CSG list may have one or more identities of a second RAT, for example a 4G RAT. The core network node can then use the CSG ID list to enable mobility operations to be performed between the first network using the first Rat and the second network using the second RAT. For example, the core network node may send the CSG ID list for a User Equipment (UE) to a UE and / or to a RAN node serving the UE for performing mobility operations for the UE.

[0067] According to some examples, the CSG list of one or more CSG IDs may comprise a list of CSG IDs that are allowed for a UE. The list may for an entire PLMN.

[0068] In the following various example embodiments are explained with reference to communication devices (e.g., UEs) that are capable of communication with a communications network. Before explaining in detail the embodiments of the methods and apparatuses of the present disclosure, a communications network comprising a 5th generation communication system (5GS) , a radio access network and a core network (5GC) thereof, are briefly explained with reference to FIG. 1.

[0069] FIG. 1 shows a schematic representation of a communications network comprising a cellular or mobile communication system (e.g., a 5G communication system (5GS) , and data network. The 5GS may comprise a radio access network such as a 5G radio access network (5G-RAN) or next generation radio access network (NG-RAN) , a 5G core network (5GC) . An application function may be deployed in the 5GS as trusted application function or may be deployed or hosted on one or more application servers of the data network. Such application functions are untrusted application functions. The 5GS connects a UE to a data network via the access network and the 5GC (e.g., a UPF of the 5GC) .

[0070] The 5GC may comprise the following network functions: Network Slice Selection Function (NSSF) ; Network Exposure Function; Network Repository Function (NRF) ; Policy Control Function (PCF) ; UDM; Application Function (AF) ; Authentication Server Function (AUSF) ; an AMF; and Session Management Function (SMF) , and a user plane function (UPF) . FIG. 1 also shows the various interfaces (N1, N2 etc. ) that may be implemented between the various elements of the system.

[0071] FIG. 2A shows a method for providing an allowed CSG list for UE 210 to a core network node.

[0072] At 201, UE 210 registers to a network comprising RAN node 208 and AMF 206. According to some examples, the network is a 5G network and the registration is performed according to the procedure described in 3GPP TS 23.502.

[0073] According to some examples, UE 210 is capable of using connecting to both CSG and CAG cells. According to some examples, a serving 5G gNB cell of UE 201 has at least one neighbour Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) cell.

[0074] At 203, AF 200 creates a request to send a list of one or more CSG identities for UE 210 towards AMF 206 via UDR / UDM 204. The list may comprise one or more identities of CSGs that UE 210 is allowed to join. According to some examples, the request created at 203 may  be created in response to receiving a CSG list update or create request to update or create a CSG list for UE 210. The CSG list update or create request may be received from an authorised owner or administrator of a CSG. The CSG list update or create request may comprise an identifier of UE 210.

[0075] The request created at 203 may comprise the list of one or more CSG identities for UE 210. According to some examples, the request may be sent directly to AMF 206. In other examples, the request may be sent via NEF 202 and / or UDR / UDM 204. As such, 205a, 207 , 209 and 211 shown in FIG. 2A are optional.

[0076] At 205a, AF 200 sends the request created at 203 to NEF 202. The request may be sent as a service parameter sent from AF 200 to NEF 202. The request may alternatively be sent as a parameter from AF 200 to NEF 202; in such examples the parameter may be sent as a Nnef_ParameterProvisioning_Create parameter.

[0077] After 205a, the request comprising the CSG ID list for UE 210 may be sent to AMF 206 from NEF 202. According to some examples, the request may be sent via UDR / UDM 204 as shown at 207. When UDR or UDM 204 receives the list of allowed CSG IDs, UDR / UDM 204 may store at 209 the allowed CSG list for later provision to AMF 206 at 211.

[0078] At 211, UDR / UDM 204 sends the allowed CSG ID list to AMF 206. The CSG list may be sent in a notification message to AMF as an Nudr_DM.

[0079] At 213, AMF 206 stores the allowed CSG ID list. AMF 206 can use the allowed CSG ID list to enable UE 210 to perform mobility operations involving the allowed CSGs. As such, AMF 206, which is of a first network using a first RAT (e.g., a 5G RAT) can use the list of CSG IDs associated with a second network of a second RAT (e.g., a 4G RAT) to provide information that enables mobility operations between the first network and the second network. In some examples, AMF 206 may also store a CAG list for UE 210.

[0080] 215a and 215b show examples of how AMF 206 can enable UE to perform mobility operations between the two networks. At 215a, AMF 206 sends the allowed CSG ID list to UE 210. The list may be sent in a NAS Register Request, for example. At 215b, AMF 206 sends the allowed CSG ID list to NG-RAN node 208. The list may be sent in an NGAP message, for example.

[0081] At 217, mobility operations may be performed for UE 210 between the first network and the second network using the provided CSG ID list. The mobile operations may be between the  first network using the first RAT (e.g., a 5G RAT) and the second network of the second RAT (e.g., a 4G RAT using the CSG IDs) .

[0082] FIG. 2B shows a second example method for providing a CSG ID list to AMF 206. The method is similar to the example method of FIG. 2A, however at 205b the AF request comprising the list of allowed CSG IDs is sent to PCF 214 rather than to NEF 202 as in 205a. PCF 214 may then send the list of allowed CSG IDs to UDR / UDM 204 at 207.

[0083] FIG. 3 shows an example method flow. The method may be performed by an AF such as AF 200, for example.

[0098] It is understood that references in the above to various network functions (e.g., to an AMF, an AF, a PCF etc. ) may comprise apparatus that perform at least some of the functionality associated with those network functions. Further, an apparatus comprising a network function may comprise a virtual network function instance of that network function.

[0099] It should be understood that the apparatuses may comprise or be coupled to other units or modules etc., such as radio parts or radio heads, used in or for transmission and / or reception. Although the apparatuses have been described as one entity, different modules and memory may be implemented in one or more physical or logical entities.

[0100] It is noted that whilst some embodiments have been described in relation to 5G networks, similar principles can be applied in relation to other networks and communication systems. Therefore, although certain embodiments were described above by way of example with reference to certain example architectures for wireless networks, technologies and standards, embodiments may be applied to any other suitable forms of communication systems than those illustrated and described herein.

[0101] It is also noted herein that while the above describes example embodiments, there are several variations and modifications which may be made to the disclosed solution without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0102] As used herein, “at least one of the following: <a list of two or more elements>” and “at least one of <a list of two or more elements>” and similar wording, where the list of two or more elements are joined by “and” or “or” , mean at least any one of the elements, or at least any two or more of the elements, or at least all the elements.

[0103] In general, the various embodiments may be implemented in hardware or special purpose circuitry, software, logic or any combination thereof. Some aspects of the disclosure may be implemented in hardware, while other aspects may be implemented in firmware or software which may be executed by a controller, microprocessor or other computing device, although the disclosure is not limited thereto. While various aspects of the disclosure may be illustrated and described as block diagrams, flow charts, or using some other pictorial representation, it is well understood that these blocks, apparatus, systems, techniques or methods described herein may be implemented in, as non-limiting examples, hardware, software, firmware, special purpose circuits or logic, general purpose hardware or controller or other computing devices, or some combination thereof.

[0104] As used herein, the term “circuitry” may refer to one or more or all of the following:

[0105] (a) hardware-only circuit implementations (such as implementations in only analog and / or digital circuitry) and

[0106] (b) combinations of hardware circuits and software, such as (as applicable) :

[0107] (i) a combination of analog and / or digital hardware circuit (s) with software / firmware and

[0108] (ii) any portions of hardware processor (s) with software (including digital signal processor (s) ) , software, and memory (ies) that work together to cause an apparatus, such as a mobile phone or server, to perform various functions) and

[0109] (c) hardware circuit (s) and or processor (s) , such as a microprocessor (s) or a portion of a microprocessor (s) , that requires software (e.g., firmware) for operation, but the software may not be present when it is not needed for operation. ”

[0110] This definition of circuitry applies to all uses of the term “means” herein, including in any claims. As a further example, as used herein, the term circuitry also covers an implementation of merely a hardware circuit or processor (or multiple processors) or portion of a hardware circuit or processor and its (or their) accompanying software and / or firmware. The term circuitry also covers, for example and if applicable to the particular claim element, a baseband integrated circuit or processor integrated circuit for a mobile device or a similar integrated circuit in server, a cellular network device, or other computing or network device.

[0111] The embodiments of this disclosure may be implemented by computer software executable by a data processor of the mobile device, such as in the processor entity, or by hardware, or by a combination of software and hardware. Computer software or program, also called program product, including software routines, applets and / or macros, may be stored in any apparatus-readable data storage medium and they comprise program instructions to perform particular tasks. A computer program product may comprise one or more computer-executable components which, when the program is run, are configured to carry out embodiments. The one or more computer-executable components may be at least one software code or portions of it.

[0112] Further in this regard it should be noted that any blocks of the logic flow as in the Figures may represent program steps, or interconnected logic circuits, blocks and functions, or a combination of program steps and logic circuits, blocks and functions. The software may be stored on such physical media as memory chips, or memory blocks implemented within the processor, magnetic media such as hard disk or floppy disks, and optical media such as for example DVD and the data variants thereof, CD. The physical media is a non-transitory media.

[0113] The term “non-transitory, ” as used herein, is a limitation of the medium itself (i.e., tangible, not a signal ) as opposed to a limitation on data storage persistency (e.g., RAM vs. ROM) .

[0114] The memory may be of any type suitable to the local technical environment and may be implemented using any suitable data storage technology, such as semiconductor based  memory devices, magnetic memory devices and systems, optical memory devices and systems, fixed memory and removable memory. The data processors may be of any type suitable to the local technical environment, and may comprise one or more of general purpose computers, special purpose computers, microprocessors, digital signal processors (DSPs) , application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) , FPGA, gate level circuits and processors based on multi core processor architecture, as non-limiting examples.
