AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The integration of sensing and communication functionalities within the same resource block in bistatic sensing configurations leads to significant interference issues due to the overpowering signal strength of uplink communication signals, compromising the effectiveness of sensing operations, particularly in scenarios with small Radar Cross-Section (RCS).

Method used

A first apparatus receives measurement reports indicating signal quality and channel stability from a second apparatus, using these metrics to determine a configuration for coherent processing of sensing signals, thereby enhancing sensing performance by increasing coherent processing gain without occupying communication resource blocks.

Benefits of technology

This approach improves sensing performance by ensuring quality of service for sensing operations, even in interference-prone environments, by optimizing coherent processing based on signal quality and channel stability without degrading communication performance.

[0043] As used herein, the term “network device” refers to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device accesses the network and receives services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , an NR NB (also referred to as a gNB) , a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a relay, an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node, a low power node such as a femto, a pico, a non-terrestrial network (NTN) or non-ground network device such as a satellite network device, a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite and a geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) satellite, an aircraft network device, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology. In some example embodiments, radio access network (RAN) split architecture includes a Centralized Unit (CU) and a Distributed Unit (DU) at an IAB donor node. An IAB node includes a Mobile Terminal (IAB-MT) part that behaves like a UE toward the parent node, and a DU part of an IAB node behaves like a base station toward the next-hop IAB node.

[0044] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted  display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. The terminal device may also correspond to a Mobile Termination (MT) part of an IAB node (e.g., a relay node) . In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0045] As used herein, the term “resource, ” “transmission resource, ” “resource block, ” “physical resource block” (PRB) , “uplink resource, ” or “downlink resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, for example, a communication between a terminal device and a network device, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, or any other combination of the time, frequency, space and / or code domain resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, unless explicitly stated, a resource in both frequency domain and time domain may be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0046] There are two categories of sensing, including monostatic and bistatic sensing. In a monostatic sensing system, a sensing transmitter (also referred to as a transmitter) and a sensing receiver (also referred to as a receiver) are located at the same location or a very close proximity compared to a sensed target (or a sensed object) . For example, the transmitter emits a signal, which is then reflected by the target (or the object) and received by the same antenna. This category of sensing is commonly used in radar systems. In a bistatic sensing system, the transmitter and the receiver are located at different locations. For example, the transmitter emits a signal, which is then reflected by the target and received by a different antenna. Bistatic sensing is commonly used in remote sensing applications.

[0047] To optimize time and frequency resources, sensing and communication functionalities may be integrated within the same resource block. For example, in a bistatic sensing configuration involving base stations (e.g., gNBs) , one base station emits a sensing reference signal (RS) signal, which is then reflected by a sensed target or object.  Simultaneously, the other base station receives both a target echo signal and an uplink communication signal from user equipment (UE) . However, a challenge arises due to the fact that signal power of the uplink communication signal surpasses signal power of the sensing echo signal, as the latter experiences passive reflection of the object.

[0048] If separate resources are utilized for the sensing and communication functions, interferences remain lower owing to the substantial distinction between the sensing echo signal and the communication signal, particularly in scenarios involving small Radar Cross-Section (RCS) . However, in the case that the sensing and communication utilize the same Resource Elements (REs) , interferences become relatively significant in sensing operations. In such cases, assurance of the sensing service may not be feasible.

[0049] An approach for increasing the processing gain (e.g., coherent gain) may be utilized as remedy for this issue. In sensing applications, coherent processing gain may be considered for combating detrimental effects of noise and interferences, to enhance sensing performance, particularly in environments characterized by high interference levels. coherent-on-receive synthesis can substantially enhance the target signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) . Channel state information (CSI) measurements may provide valuable insights into the characteristics of the channel, including factors such as fading, interferences, and noise. Accurate estimation of these factors may facilitate effective mitigation of their adverse effects during coherent processing. By leveraging CSI measurements, coherent processing techniques can achieve a higher sensing coherent processing gain.

[0050] In addition, in the context of sensing, coherent gain may be closely related to a length of channel coherence time. Channel coherence time refers to a period during which the characteristics (particularly phase and magnitude properties) of a signal remain relatively stable as it propagates through a channel. During this period, the channel experiences minimal changes, and the propagation conditions of the signal remain relatively steady. In the applications such as wireless communications, radar, and remote sensing, channel coherence time is often used to improve the performances.

[0051] If the channel coherence time is shorter, it implies that the channel characteristics change rapidly. This may lead to significant differences between consecutive measurements, ultimately diminishing the effectiveness of coherent gain. Conversely, a longer channel coherence time indicates minimal changes in the channel characteristics, allowing for more measurements and coherent averaging, thus elevating the quality of  measurements. Thus, the channel coherent time may be a considered factor in determining the quantity of coherent measurements, which may subsequently influence the coherent processing gain.

[0052] Some example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for enhancing the sensing processing gain. In the solution, a first apparatus (such as a location server or device) receives, from a second apparatus (such as a sensing receiver) , at least one measurement report that indicates signal quality and channel stability associated with a sensing signal, for coherent processing of measurement results of the sensing signal. Based on the signal quality and the channel stability, the first apparatus may determine at least one configuration for sensing an object using the sensing signal.

[0053] This solution provides a way to increase the sensing coherent gain by coherent processing of the reported measurement results of the sensing signal based on the reported signal quality and channel stability. Quality of service (QoS) for a sensing service may be guaranteed by enhancing the coherent processing gain of sensing operations.

[0054] In this way, the sensing performance may be improved by increasing the coherent processing gain without occupying communication resource blocks (RBs) and degrading communication performance. This solution is beneficial in the case that the sensing is affected by the interferences and the channel is relative stable within a sensing refreshing time period.

[0055] FIG. 1 shows an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented.

[0056] The communication environment 100 may include a sensing transmitter 105 and a sensing receiver 110 which cooperate to sense an object 115 (also referred to as a target) in a sensing area 120. For example, the sensing transmitter 110 may transmit a sensing reference signal 125, which is then reflected by the object 115. The sensing receiver 110 may receive a signal 130 reflected by the object 115. The reflected signal 130 will be referred to as a sensing signal or a sensing echo signal. The sensing transmitter 105 and / or the sensing receiver 110 may also be referred to as a sensing node.

[0057] In addition to sensing functions, the sensing transmitter 105 and the sensing receiver 110 perform communication functions. The sensing transmitter 105 may function as a transmitting (Tx) node for both communication and sensing services. The sensing receiver  110 may function as a receiving (Rx) node for both communication and sensing services. In this example, the sensing transmitter 105 and the sensing receiver 110 may be implemented by two base stations such as a gNB, for example, in a 5G NR system. The communication environment 100 may further includes a terminal device 135 such as a Customer Premise (s) Equipment (CPE) or a UE. The terminal device 130 may communicate with either or both of the sensing transmitter 105 and the sensing receiver 110. In some example embodiments, the terminal device 130 may function as a sensing transmitter and / or a sensing receiver.

[0058] Moreover, the communication environment 100 may include a sensing server 140. The sensing server 140 may function as a sensing function (SF) which may be a function of a sensing management function (SeMF) entity. The sensing server 140 may be responsible for at least one of the following: sensing service authorization with respect to a terminal device such as a UE, a sensing area and environment privacy checks; sensing method selection, and selection and configuration of sensing nodes (e.g., a sensing transmitter and a sensing receiver) ; and measurement data collection, and processing and sensing of sensing results or outputs.

[0059] The sensing server 140 may be implemented by a physical or virtual device. The sensing server 140 may be implemented as a hardware, firmware, and / or algorithm-based software component within any device or node such as a terminal device, a base station, a core network device (e.g., a location management function or LMF, an application management function or AMF, and a sensing management function or SeMF) and / or the like. In some example embodiments, the sensing server 140 may be physically integrated into or implemented as a part of the sensing transmitter 105 or the sensing receiver 110.

[0060] In addition, the communication environment 100 may include a sensing processing unit 145 which may communicate with the sensing server140 to obtain the sensing results or outputs of the sensing server 140 for performing a sensing processing function. The sensing processing unit 145 may be any part of a hardware processor with software and a memory. The hardware processor, software and memory may operate together to cause an apparatus to perform the processing function. In some example embodiments, the sensing processing unit 140 may be physically integrated into or implemented as a part of the sensing transmitter 105, the sensing receiver 110 or the sensing server 140.

[0061] Communications in the communication environment 200 may be implemented  according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0062] It is to be understood that the number and types of apparatuses are shown in FIG. 1 for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. For example, the communication environment 100 may include any suitable number and any suitable types of apparatuses and devices, which may depend on sensing services and / or communication services to be provided.

[0063] It is to also be understood that a bistatic sensing mode based on two base stations is shown in FIG. 1 only for the purpose of illustration, without suggesting any limitation. Any bistatic sensing mode may be applied in the communication environment 100. For example, the sensing transmitter 105 may be either a base station or a terminal device while the sensing receiver 110 may be either a base station or a terminal device. In addition, other categories of sensing modes such as a monostatic sensing mode may also be applied. For example, in a monostatic sensing mode, one device or node either a base station or a terminal device may function as both the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver. In some example embodiments, a multi-static sensing mode may be used where one device or node operates as a sensing transmitter and a plurality of other devices or nodes operate as sensing receiver.

[0064] FIG. 2A to FIG. 2F show six example sensing modes that can be applied in the communication environment 100.

[0065] A sensing mode 202 in FIG. 2A is a monostatic sensing mode where one base station  204 may function as both a sensing transmitter and a sensing receiver to sense an object 206. In the sensing mode 202, processing of measured data may be implemented by a network. A sensing mode 208 in FIG. 2B is also a monostatic sensing mode where one terminal device 210 may function as both a sensing transmitter and a sensing receiver for the object 206. In this sensing mode, processing of measured data may be implemented at either or both of a network or the terminal device.

[0066] A sensing mode 212 in FIG. 2C, a sensing mode 214 in FIG. 2D, a sensing mode 216 in FIG. 2E and a sensing mode 218 in FIG. 2F are all bistatic sensing modes. In the sensing mode 212, two base stations including the base station 204 and a base station 220 may function as a sensing transmitter and a sensing receiver, respectively. The processing of the measured data may be implemented by the network. In the sensing mode 214, two terminal devices including the terminal device 210 and a terminal device 222 may function as a sensing transmitter and a sensing receiver, respectively. The processing of the measured data may be implemented by the network. In the sensing mode 216, the base station 204 may function as a sensing transmitter while the terminal device 210 may function as a sensing receiver. In the sensing mode 216, the terminal device 210 may function as a sensing transmitter while the base station 204 may function as a sensing receiver. The processing of the measured data may be implemented by either or both of the network or the terminal device in the sensing modes 216 and 218.

[0067] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are discussed taking a bistatic sensing mode as an example. These example embodiments may be in general applied in a monostatic sensing mode, a multi-static sensing mode and any other sensing modes.

[0068] In the communication environment 100, in order to sense the object 115, the sensing receiver 110 may perform measurements of the sensing signal 130 and transmit one or more measurement reports to the sensing server 140. Based on these measurement reports, the sensing server 140 may determine one or more configurations for sensing the object 115 using the sensing signal 130.

[0069] In various example embodiments, the one or more measurement reports indicates signal quality and channel stability associated with a sensing signal, for coherent processing of measurement results of the sensing signal. Sensing processing gain may be enhanced by assessing quality of the current sensing signal 130 and stability of a channel,  which may be characterized or indicated by metrics such as Sensing SINR (SSINR) and channel coherence time. Subsequently, the sensing server 140 such as a sensing function (SF) may be able to deduce an optimal approach for configuring sensing resource allocation, for example, duration of coherent measurements within a coherence time frame. The information about the configuration may then be conveyed to the sensing processing unit 145, to direct it towards an appropriate processing configuration.

[0070] In this way, the quality of service (QoS) for the sensing service may be guaranteed by enhancing the coherent processing gain of sensing operations, for example, extending instances of measurements for a single sensing processing result. Some example implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4.

[0071] FIG. 3 illustrates an example sensing process 300 according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0072] The process 300 involves a first apparatus 305, a second apparatus 310 and a third apparatus 315. In the following, some example embodiments are described where the first apparatus 305 operates as the sensing receiver 110 in FIG. 1, the second apparatus 310 operates as the sensing server 140 in FIG. 1, and the third apparatus 315 operates as the sensing processing unit 145. These embodiments may also be applied in other sensing scenarios. For example, in some example embodiments, the functions of the sensing processing unit 145 may be implemented by the sensing receiver 110 or the sensing server 140. In these example embodiments, only two nodes may be involved in the sensing process. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1.

[0073] As shown in FIG. 3, the second apparatus 310 (such as the sensing receiver 110) transmits (320) at least one measurement report to the first apparatus 305 (such as the sensing server 140) . The at least one measurement report indicates signal quality and channel stability associated with a sensing signal (such as the sensing signal 130) , for coherent processing of measurement results of the sensing signal.

[0074] In some example embodiments, the signal quality associated with the sensing signal, which may also be referred to as sensing signal quality, may be indicated by information related to at least one of: interferences, signal strength, signal power, or a signal and interference to noise ratio (SINR) . For example, the information may comprise sensing  SINR (SSINR) or other information related to the strength of the sensing (echo) signal 130 or interferences.

[0075] In some example embodiments, the channel stability is indicated by channel coherent time. The channel coherence time may be corresponding to time duration over which a channel impulse response may be considered to be not varying.

[0076] In some example embodiments, the channel coherent time may include a time duration during which a change of channel impulse responses associated with the sensing signal is equal to or less than a threshold. If the channel impulse responses are changed little in time duration, the channel may be considered as constant. The metrics of the channel impulse responses may be considered to be coherent and be used for coherent processing.

[0077] By way of example, a signal x (t) transmitted at time t1 may be received as: yt1 (t) =x (t-t1) *ht1 (t)      (1)

[0078] where ht1 (t) represents a channel impulse response (CIR) at the time t1. A signal transmitted at time t2 will be received as: yt2(t) =x (t-t2) *ht2 (t)   (2)

[0079] If ht1 (t) -ht2 (t) is relatively small, the channel may be considered constant within the interval from t1 to t2. Coherence time (τc) will therefore be given by τc=t2-t1      (3)

[0080] In this case, the channel coherent time may be estimated by evaluating the difference of yt1 (t) and yt2 (t) in τc.

[0081] In some example embodiments, the channel coherent time may include a time interval over which a value of an autocorrelation function of the channel impulse responses associated with the sensing signal is equal to or greater than a threshold. If a value of an autocorrelation function of the channel impulse responses is larger, the channel may be considered as constant, the metrics of the channel impulse responses may be used for coherent processing.

[0082] In an example, the coherence time can be defined as a time interval over which the autocorrelation function of the channel impulse response is above a certain threshold, such  as 0.5 or 0.9. A value of the threshold may be set as any suitable value, for example, depending on sensing scenarios and radio conditions.

[0083] In some example embodiments, the channel coherent time may be related a channel Doppler shift change associated with the sensing signal, a relative speed of a sensing transmitter (such as the sensing transmitter 105 in FIG. 1) and the second apparatus 310 (such as the sensing receiver 110) , and / or a wavelength of the sensing signal.

[0084] By way of example, the autocorrelation function measures how similar the channel is at different time instances or time periods. If the autocorrelation function decays exponentially, then the coherence time is equal to the inverse of the maximum Doppler spread. That is,

[0085] where τc is the coherence time and fd is the maximum Doppler spread.

[0086] The maximum Doppler spread can be calculated as:

[0087] where v is a relative speed of the sensing transmitter 105 and the sensing receiver 110, and λ is the wavelength of the sensing signal 130.

[0088] The equation (5) shows that the channel coherence time is inversely proportional to the relative speed of the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver, and directly proportional to the wavelength (or inversely proportional to the frequency) of the sensing signal 130.

[0089] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 305 may transmit a request (referred to as a first request) for the at least one measurement report. In response to the first request, the second apparatus 210 may transmit the at least one measurement report to the first apparatus 305.

[0090] For example, after the second apparatus 310 receives the first request, the second apparatus 310 may assess or estimate both sensing signal quality and channel stability. The evaluation of the sensing signal quality may take different forms of measurements, such as a one-time measurement or multiple measurements at specific intervals. The second apparatus 310 may have flexibility to choose the maximum signal quality or the  minimum signal quality, or calculate the average of parameters related to the sensing signal quality, such as SSINR, to determine the evaluation result of the sensing signal quality.

[0091] Regarding the channel coherence time, the second apparatus 310 may monitor the variation in CSI over a certain period and may compare it against predefined criteria or thresholds. The stability of the channel can be influenced by various parameters as described above. For example, these parameters may include Doppler shift changes, a relative speed of the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver, a wavelength of the sensing signal, and / or other parameters that may impact the coherence time. The second apparatus 310 may evaluate the related parameters of coherence time to determine the channel stability.

[0092] Then, the second apparatus 310 may prepare two measurement reports to indicate the signal quality and the channel coherence time, respectively. It is also possible that one measurement report indicates the signal quality and the channel coherence time. In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 310 may transmit a plurality of measurement reports, one measurement report indicating one or both of the signal quality and the channel coherence time.

[0093] After the first apparatus 305 receives (325) the at least one measurement report from the second apparatus 310, the first apparatus 305 determines (330) , based at least in part on the signal quality and the channel stability, at least one configuration for sensing an object (such as the object 115) using the sensing signal (such as the sensing signal 130) .

[0094] In some example embodiments, the at least one configuration may be determined further based on refresh time of measurement results of the sensing signal. The refresh time of the measurement results may be corresponding to a refresh sensing frequency (or a sensing refresh frequency or a refreshed sensing frequency) that may indicate how frequent the measurement result is obtained. Alternatively, or in addition, the at least one configuration may be determined further based on a sensing requirement such as a sensing accuracy requirement, a required SSINR level, a required maximum unambiguous range, and / or the like.

[0095] In some example embodiments, the at least one configuration may include information about a number of coherent accumulations of the measurement results. The number of coherent accumulations of the measurement results may be corresponding to  the number of coherent processing times for one sensing refresh time period, which may indicate how many measurement results may be coherently processed. Alternatively, or in addition, the at least one configuration may include density of a sensing reference signal transmitted by a sensing transmitter (for example, the sensing reference signal 125 transmitted by the sensing transmitter 105 in FIG. 1) , also referred to as reference signal (RS) density.

[0096] In an example, the first apparatus 305 may determine (330) a sensing resource configuration which may include coherent processing times, RS density and / or the like. The sensing resource configuration may be determined based on SSINR, channel coherence time, refreshed sensing frequency, sensing requirements and / or the like.

[0097] In some example embodiments where the number of coherent processing times is updated, it is assumed that the refreshed sensing frequency is Tr, and the channel coherence time is Tc. It may be required that Tc>Tr. In an example, the number of coherent processing times may be taken as an integer of Tc / Tr. The first apparatus 305 may determine the number of coherent processing times based on a gap to a required SSINR level.

[0098] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 305 may determine (330) a RS configuration for a sensing transmitter (such as the sensing transmitter 105) . The first apparatus 305 may update it to the sensing transmitter, for example, if the first apparatus 305 determines to increase time and / or frequency RBs for the sensing RS. After such updates, the sensing transmitter 105 may transmit the sensing reference signal accordingly.

[0099] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 305 may determine (330) a measurement and report configuration for the second apparatus 310 (such as the sensing receiver) . The first apparatus 305 may update it to the second apparatus 310 based on the determination. Then, the second apparatus 310 transmit the measurement report for processing based on the updated configuration.

[0100] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 305 may determine (330) a configuration for the coherent processing. Then, the first apparatus 305 may transmit (335) , to the third apparatus 315 (such as the sensing processing unit 145 in FIG. 1) , a request (referred to as a second request) for the coherent processing which includes a configuration for the coherent processing. As such, the second apparatus 310 may request the third apparatus 315 to perform the coherent processing with this configuration.

[0101] In some example embodiments, the configuration for the coherent processing may indicate a required coherent gain of the coherent processing. Alternatively, or in addition, in some example embodiments, the configuration may indicate a required number of coherent accumulations of the measurement results, the channel coherent time associated with the sensing signal, or refresh time (or refreshed time) of the measurement results. The number of measurement results for the coherent processing or for the coherent accumulations may be determined based on the channel coherent time and the refresh time.

[0102] For example, the configuration may include the information related to the required number of coherent processing times Np in the coherence time Tc or the refreshed sensing time Tr.

[0103] In addition to the coherence-related processing configuration or requirement, the first apparatus 205 may determine (330) other sensing processing configurations or requirements and transmit such configurations to the third apparatus 315 for sensing processing. In some other example embodiments, depending on the sensing service requirements (such as KPIs) , the first apparatus 305 may determine not to perform coherent processing. For example, if the KPI has already been met, there may be no need to perform the coherent processing to further increase the processing gain. In this case, the configuration may not be related to coherent processing.

[0104] After the third apparatus 315 receives (340) , from the first apparatus 305, the second request including configuration for the coherent processing, the third apparatus 315 performs (345) , based on the configuration, the coherent processing of the measurement results of the sensing signal. For example, the third apparatus 315 may process the measurement data from the second apparatus 310 with the considerations of the sensing coherence gain and the channel coherent time that are required or indicated by the first apparatus 305.

[0105] In some example embodiments, the configuration for the coherent processing may not include the channel coherent time. In this case, the third apparatus 315 may determine coherent processing time by utilizing the proportional relationship of the channel coherent time and the relative speed of the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver as shown in the above equation (5) .

[0106] For example, the processing coherence time may be expressed as:

[0107] where v′represents a velocity of the object 115 (or the sensing target) . Based on the equation (6) , the third apparatus 315 may evaluate the velocity of the object 115 and estimate the coherent processing time based on the velocity.

[0108] FIG. 4 shows an example sensing process 400 based on coherent processing according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0109] The process 400 may be implemented by the sensing transmitter 105, the sensing receiver 110 (as an example of the second apparatus 310 in FIG. 3) , the sensing server 140 (as an example of the first apparatus 305 in FIG. 3) and the sensing processing unit 145 (as an example of the third apparatus 310 in FIG. 3) . For the purpose of discussion, the process 400 will described with reference to FIG. 4.

[0113] In step 5, after updates, the sensing process will be done where the sensing transmitter 105 may transmit (450) the sensing reference signal, and the sensing receiver 110 may receive (455) the sensing echo signal reflected from the object 115. In step 6, the sensing receiver 110 may transmit (460) one or more measurement reports to the sensing processing unit 145 for processing. In step 7, the sensing processing unit 145 may perform (465) coherent processing based on the request received in step 4-4.
