Description

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR REPORTING CHNNEL STATE INFORMATION IN MOBILE COMMUNICATIONSCROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED PATENT APPLICATION (S)

[0001] The present disclosure is part of a non-provisional application claiming the priority benefit of U.S. Patent Application No. 63 / 567,993, filed 21 March 2024 and U.S. Patent Application No. 63 / 654,190, filed on 31 May 2024. The contents of aforementioned applications are herein incorporated by reference in their entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] The present disclosure is generally related to mobile communications and, more particularly, to reporting channel state information with respect to apparatus in mobile communications.BACKGROUND

[0003] Unless otherwise indicated herein, approaches described in this section are not prior art to the claims listed below and are not admitted as prior art by inclusion in this section.

[0004] In Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or New Radio (NR) mobile communications, multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) is introduced. In particular, under a MU-MIMO network, a base station (BS) may transmit channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) from multiple antennas of the BS to one or more user equipment (UEs) . Each UE may measure and report channel state information (CSI) of the UE’s MIMO channel to the BS. The BS may subsequently determine an optimal strategy for scheduling a plurality of UEs for concurrent data transmissions. For each UE involved in the concurrent data transmissions, the BS may further determine a respective precoding matrix for weighting the transmission antennas during the subsequent data transmission associated with that UE.

[0005] However, the CSI-RS utilized for scheduling concurrent UEs and determining corresponding precoders may be transmitted without precoding, thereby limiting its applicability. In addition, the use of CSI-RS for acquiring CSI may lack sufficient flexibility. Furthermore, obtaining CSI for additional transmission layers (e.g., potential data layer at later stage) using CSI-RS may also exhibit limited flexibility.

[0006] Accordingly, how to improve the flexibility of CSI acquisition becomes an important issue in the newly developed wireless communication network. Therefore, there is a need to provide proper schemes to improve the flexibility of CSI acquisition.SUMMARY

[0007] The following summary is illustrative only and is not intended to be limiting in any way. That is, the following summary is provided to introduce concepts, highlights, benefits and advantages of the novel and non-obvious techniques described herein. Select implementations are further described below in the detailed description. Thus, the following summary is not intended to identify essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended for use in determining the scope of the claimed subject matter.

[0008] An objective of the present disclosure is to propose solutions or schemes that address the aforementioned issues pertaining to reporting channel state information (CSI) with respect to apparatus in mobile communications.

[0010] In one aspect, a method may involve an apparatus transmitting one or more reference signal sets for determining a set of precoded channels. Each of the one or more reference signal sets may include at least one of a first subset of reference signals and a second subset of reference signals. The first subset of reference signals may be associated with a first set of data channels. The method may further involve the apparatus receiving a report including the set of precoded channels.

[0011] In one aspect, an apparatus may comprise a transceiver which, during operation, wirelessly communicates with a wireless network. The apparatus may also comprise a processor communicatively coupled to the transceiver. The processor, during operation, may perform operations comprising receiving, via the transceiver, one or more reference signal sets. Each of the one or more reference signal sets may include at least one of a first subset of reference signals and a second subset of reference signals. The first subset of reference signals may be associated with a first set of data channels. The processor may also perform operations comprising determining a set of precoded channels based on the one or more reference signal sets. The processor may further perform operations comprising transmitting, via the transceiver, a report including the set of precoded channels.

[0012] It is noteworthy that, although description provided herein may be in the context of certain radio access technologies, networks and network topologies such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Advanced, LTE-Advanced Pro, 5th Generation (5G) , New Radio (NR) , Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) , Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) , and 6th Generation (6G) , the proposed concepts, schemes and any variation (s)  / derivative (s) thereof may be implemented in, for and by other types of radio access technologies, networks and network topologies. Thus, the scope of the present disclosure is not limited to the examples described herein.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0020] Detailed embodiments and implementations of the claimed subject matters are disclosed herein. However, it shall be understood that the disclosed embodiments and implementations are merely illustrative of the claimed subject matters which may be embodied in various forms. The present disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the exemplary embodiments and implementations set forth herein. Rather, these exemplary embodiments and implementations are provided so that description of the present disclosure is thorough and complete and will fully convey the scope of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. In the description below, details of well-known features and techniques may be omitted to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the presented embodiments and implementations. Overview

[0021] Implementations in accordance with the present disclosure relate to various techniques, methods, schemes and / or solutions pertaining to reporting channel state information (CSI) with respect to apparatus in mobile communications. According to the present disclosure, a number of possible solutions may be implemented separately or jointly. That is, although these possible solutions may be described below separately, two or more of these possible solutions may be implemented in one combination or another.

[0022] Regarding the present disclosure, a network node (e.g., base station (BS) or transmission reception point (TRP) ) may transmit one or more reference signal sets to a user equipment (UE) . Each of the one or more reference signal sets may include at least one of a first subset of reference signals and a second subset of reference signals. The first subset of reference signals may be associated with a first set of data channels (e.g., the first subset of reference signals may include demodulation reference signal (DMRS) of concurrent data channel) . The second subset of reference signals may include precoded reference signal (s) and utilized for the UE to measure potential data layer (s) which may be introduced at later stage.

[0023] After receiving the one or more reference signal sets, the UE may determine (i.e., measure) a set of precoded channels based on the one or more reference signal sets. The UE may transmit a report (e.g., channel state information (CSI) report) including the set of precoded channels to the network node. After receiving the report including the set of precoded channels, the network node may use the report to schedule / reschedule multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission to facilitate the subsequent data channels. More specifically, in an event that there are multiple UEs under the corresponding network system, each UE may transmit corresponding report including corresponding set of precoded channels to the network node. The network node may use all the reports to schedule / reschedule MU-MIMO transmission to facilitate the subsequent data channels.

[0024] Accordingly, as the reporting (e.g., CSI report) including the set of the precoded channels may be determined based on (1) the first subset of reference signals (e.g., DMRS (s) ) associated with the first set of data channels (e.g., concurrent data channel (s) ) , and / or (2) the second subset of reference signals utilized for measuring potential data layer (s) , the flexibility in acquiring channel state associated report may be significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the utilization of the report may facilitate improvements in overall network efficiency.

[0025] FIG. 1 illustrates an example scenario 100 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. Scenario 100 involves one or more UEs and a network, which may be a part of a wireless communication network (e.g., an LTE network, a 5G / NR network, an IoT network or a 6G network) . Scenario 100 illustrates the current network framework which may include an MU-MIMO network framework. The UEs may connect to the network side. The network side may comprise one or more than one network nodes (e.g., transmission reception points (TRPs) ) . For illustrative purposes, one network node and one UE may be described hereinafter. However, it is not intended to limit the network scenarios of the present disclosure.

[0026] In some embodiments, the network node may transmit a plurality of reference signals to the UE. The plurality of reference signals may be considered as one or more reference signal sets. Each of the one or more reference sets may be associated with one UE. Each of the one or more reference signal sets may include at least one of: (1) a first subset of reference signals and (2) a second subset of reference signals.

[0027] In an event that one of the one or more reference signal sets includes the first subset of reference signals, the first subset of reference signals (e.g., DMRS (s) ) may be associated with a first set of data channels (e.g., concurrent data channel (s) existed between the network node and the UE (s) ) . In an event that one of the one or more reference signal sets includes the second subset of reference signals, the second subset of reference signals may be precoded and utilized for the UE to measure potential data layer (s) which may be introduced at later stage. In other words, the second subset of reference signals utilized to measure potential data layer (s) may not include reference signal (s) associated with pre-existing data channel (s) between the UE and the network node.

[0028] In some cases, the second subset of reference signals may be without data channel (i.e., the second subset of reference signals may be transmitted without any data) . In these cases, the second subset of reference signals may include any possible precoded reference signal (s) .

[0029] After receiving the one or more reference signal sets, the UE may determine (i.e., measure) a set of precoded channels based on the one or more reference signals. In some cases, the set of precoded channels may include at least one of a first set of precoded channels and a second set (s) of precoded channels. The first precoded channel may be associated with the UE. The second set (s) of precoded channel may be associated with other UE (s) .

[0030] Then, the UE may transmit a report (e.g., CSI report) including the set of precoded channels to the network node. In some cases, the set of precoded channels may include at least one of the first precoded channel and the second precoded channel (s) . More specifically, the set of precoded channels may include: (1) the first precoded channel in an event that the UE reports its channel information, (2) the second precoded channel (s) in an event that the UE reports channel information of other UE (s) except for its channel information (for interference measurement purpose) , or (3) all the first precoded channel and the second preceded channel (s) in an event that the UE reports all channel information.

[0031] After receiving the report including the set of precoded channels, the network node may select / determine a set of UEs (e.g., new set of UEs different from previous set of UE) for MU-MIMO transmissions and calculate a set of precoders (e.g., new set of precoders for the new set of UEs) , with each precoder corresponding to one of the selected UEs, to facilitate the concurrent transmission of subsequent data channels.

[0032] In some implementations, received signals of data transmissions (i.e., data channels) in an M number-user MU-MIMO network may be represented as: where (1) Hm is an MIMO channel observed by m-th UE while nT is a number of  transmitting (TX) antenna ports at the network node and is a number of receiving (RX) antenna ports at m-th UE, (2) Wm is an precoder for data intended for m-th UE, (3) sm is an  column vector including -layer of data intended for m-th UE, and (4) zm is an noise (e.g., additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) ) observed by m-th UE. In some cases, without loss of generality,  may be assumed to be the same for all UEs as nR. In general,

[0033] In some implementations, in an event there are N TRPs, the data channels may be further represented as: Hm= [Hm1 Hm2 … HmN] where Hmn is a data channel between m-th UE and n-th TRP. The precoders may be further  represented as: where Wnm is a precoder transmitted toward m-th UE from n-th TRP. Accordingly,

[0034] In some implementations, reference signal transmission in an M number-user MU-MIMO network may be represented as: where (1) Hm is the MIMO channel observed by m-th UE while nT is the number  of TX antenna ports at the network node and is the number of RX antenna ports at m-th UE, (2) is an precoder (i.e., extended precoder) for m-th UE, (3) Pm is an  diagonal square matrix including reference signals for m-th UE, and (4) Zm is an noise (e.g., AWGN) observed by m-th UE.

[0035] More specifically, Wm (with dimension ) may be the precoder for data intended for m-th UE. W′m (with dimension ) may be an augmented precoder derived from other signal sources but has no associated data layer transmission. W′m may be utilized for m-th UE to measure channel state information of potential data layer (s) . In some cases, W′m may be empty and in these cases In some cases, Wm may be empty and in these cases while m-th UE has no data channel (e.g., m-th UE has not joined a specific UE group yet but the network node may need to select m-th UE in the specific UE group at later stage) .

[0036] In some cases,  The first elements on the diagonal of Pm may be referred to as DMRSs (i.e., the first elements may be the mentioned at least one first reference signal) used by m-th UE to determine (i.e., estimate) the precoded channel and perform demodulation of the -layer data channel. In some cases, the rest of the elements (if any) on the diagonal of Pm may be the mentioned at least one second reference signal utilized for measuring potential data layer (s) .

[0037] FIG. 2 illustrates an example scenario 200 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. For example, there are two UEs communicating with the network side. Data channels are represented as W1s1 and W2s2 respectively. Reference signals are represented as and respectively. Regarding there are and Regarding there are and

[0038] In some implementations, m-th UE may estimate the precoded channels from the noisy observation of the transmitted reference signals. Based on that, the diagonal square matrix Pm including reference signals may be replaced with an identity matrix, the noise Zm may be removed, Rm may be replaced with a precoded channel which may be represented as: where of dimension is m-th UE’s channel precoded by the precoder  for n-th UE.

[0039] In some implementations, based on the transmission of the reference signals from the network node, m-th UE of the M UEs may determine (i.e., measure or estimate) the precoded channels:  and report all or part of the precoded channels to the network node.

[0040] In some cases, the m-th UE may report its precoded channel In some cases, m-th UE may report all precoded channels except for its precoded channel In some cases, m-th UE may report all precoded channels

[0041] In some implementations, the report of the precoded channels may be compressed before transmission.

[0042] In some cases, the report of the precoded channels may be in a compressed form of linear combination of a set of frequency-time basis functions. In particular, a precoded channel  may be of dimension while [k, l] may represent the variable dependency on a frequency index k and a time index l, and the precoded channel may be represented as:

[0043] More specifically, each column may be expressed as a linear combination of (number of multi-path) of basis functions of the frequency-time variables [k, l] and a multi-path parameter Further, the linear combination of  may be represented as: where is a scalar basis function of k and  l, is a 2×1 column vector including a delay and a Doppler parameter, and  is a linear combination coefficient vector of dimension

[0044] Accordingly, the report of the precoded channels may include, for each of m, n, p, q, parameters and while m may be a given number, n=1, ..., M,  and

[0045] In some cases, collection of all linear combining coefficient vectors to be reported by m-th UE to the network node may be further compressed by its singular value decomposition (SVD) . In particular, the collection of all linear combining coefficient vectors to be reported by m-th UE to the network node may be represented as: where Λm is the collection of all linear combining coefficient vectors

[0046] Accordingly, SVD of Λm may be represented as: where Σm is a diagonal matrix including the dominant singular values of Λm. In  an event that the receiving antennas at m-th UE are correlated,  is possible to be smaller than  Vm is the right singular vector of the linear combination matrix for m-th UE. Based on SVD of Λm, the report of Λm may be which may have smaller dimension than Λm.

[0047] In some cases, the report of the precoded channels may be compressed based on eigen-value decomposition of transmission covariance matrix of the precoded channels. In particular, in an event that a precoded channel may be represented as: where [k, l] of the precoded channel represents the variable dependency on a  frequency index k and a time index l. Accordingly, a constant transmission covariance matrix Ψmof dimension may be represented as:

[0048] Further, Ψm may be further compressed by eigen-value decomposition (EVD) in an event that its rank is smaller than its dimension. More specifically,  where Θm is a diagonal matrix including the dominant eigenvalues of Ψm, with Φm is a matrix including a set of eigenvectors of Ψm corresponding to Θm. Accordingly, the report may be which may have smaller dimension than Ψm. In some cases, Φm may be further simplified for further overhead reduction.

[0049] In some implementations, the report of precoded channels may be per time-frequency units. In particular, frequency unit may be referred to as a sub-band (SB) . As shown in FIG. 3 illustrating an example scenario 300 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure, there may be different types of SB patterns. The report may be for each time-frequency unit.

[0050] In some cases, based on the linear combination compression of the report, the range of the frequency-time indices k, l in the basis may be associated with the corresponding time-frequency unit.

[0051] In some cases, based on the EVD of transmission covariance matrix compression of the report, the covariance matrix may be summed over the frequency-time range of k, l in the corresponding time-frequency unit. Illustrative Implementations

[0076] The herein-described subject matter sometimes illustrates different components contained within, or connected with, different other components. It is to be understood that such depicted architectures are merely examples, and that in fact many other architectures can be implemented which achieve the same functionality. In a conceptual sense, any arrangement of components to achieve the same functionality is effectively "associated" such that the desired functionality is achieved. Hence, any two components herein combined to achieve a particular functionality can be seen as "associated with" each other such that the desired functionality is achieved, irrespective of architectures or intermedial components. Likewise, any two components so associated can also be viewed as being "operably connected" , or "operably coupled" , to each other to achieve the desired functionality, and any two components capable of being so associated can also be viewed as being "operably couplable" , to each other to achieve the desired functionality. Specific examples of operably couplable include but are not limited to physically mateable and / or physically interacting components and / or wirelessly interactable and / or wirelessly interacting components and / or logically interacting and / or logically interactable components.

[0077] Further, with respect to the use of substantially any plural and / or singular terms herein, those having skill in the art can translate from the plural to the singular and / or from the singular to the plural as is appropriate to the context and / or application. The various singular / plural permutations may be expressly set forth herein for sake of clarity.

[0078] Moreover, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that, in general, terms used herein, and especially in the appended claims, e.g., bodies of the appended claims, are generally intended as “open” terms, e.g., the term “including” should be interpreted as “including but not limited to, ” the term “having” should be interpreted as “having at least, ” the term “includes” should be interpreted as “includes but is not limited to, ” etc. It will be further understood by those within the art that if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is intended, such an intent will be explicitly recited in the claim, and in the absence of such recitation no such intent is present. For example, as an aid to understanding, the following appended claims may contain usage of the introductory phrases "at least one" and "one or more" to introduce claim recitations. However, the use of such phrases should not be construed to imply that the introduction of a claim recitation by the indefinite articles "a" or "an" limits any particular claim containing such introduced claim recitation to implementations containing only one such recitation, even when the same claim includes the introductory phrases "one or more" or "at least one" and indefinite articles such as "a" or "an, " e.g., “a” and / or “an” should be interpreted to mean “at least one” or “one or more; ” the same holds true for the use of definite articles used to introduce claim recitations. In addition, even if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is explicitly recited, those skilled in the art will recognize that such recitation should be interpreted to mean at least the recited number, e.g., the bare recitation of "two recitations, " without other modifiers, means at least two recitations, or two or more recitations. Furthermore, in those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, and C, etc. ” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention, e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, and C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and / or A, B, and C together, etc. In those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, or C, etc. ” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention, e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, or C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and / or A, B, and C together, etc. It will be further understood by those within the art that virtually any disjunctive word and / or phrase presenting two or more alternative terms, whether in the description, claims, or drawings, should be understood to contemplate the possibilities of including one of the terms, either of the terms, or both terms. For example, the phrase “A or B” will be understood to include the possibilities of “A” or “B” or “A and B. ”
