[0013] Hereinafter, modes for carrying out the present technology (hereinafter referred to as embodiments) will be described.
[0014] <Configuration example of imaging device> The present technology is applicable to general electronic devices that use an imaging element in an image capture unit (photoelectric conversion unit), such as imaging devices such as digital still cameras and video cameras, mobile terminal devices with imaging functions, copiers that use an imaging element in an image reading unit, etc. The imaging element may be formed as a single chip, or may be in the form of a module having an imaging function in which the imaging unit and a signal processing unit or an optical system are packaged together.
[0015] Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing an example configuration of an embodiment of an imaging device 11 as an electronic device to which the present technology is applied. The imaging device 11 in Fig. 1 includes an optical unit 21 including a lens group and the like, an imaging element (imaging device) 22, and a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) circuit 23 which is a camera signal processing circuit. Each block is configured by hardware and / or software.
[0021] The imaging unit 51 includes an imaging element and a lens, receives light reflected from a subject, and outputs a signal corresponding to the amount of light received to the signal processing unit 52. The signal processing unit 52 performs processes such as defect correction, noise reduction, and high dynamic range synthesis (HDR) on the input signal, and outputs the signal to, for example, the display unit 25 or the recording unit 26 ( FIG. 1 ).
[0022] The synchronization signal generating unit 53 generates a synchronization signal and supplies it to the signal processing unit 52. The synchronization signal generated by the synchronization signal generating unit 53 is, for example, a vertical synchronization signal. The control unit 54 controls each unit within the imaging device 11.
[0023] The mode switching unit 55 executes a process of switching between a normal imaging mode and a thinning imaging mode, which will be described later. The frame status management unit 56 manages which of four types of frames, namely, a lead shutter frame, a lead frame, a thinning frame, and a shutter frame, which will be described later, is being processed. The frame control unit 57 executes a process according to the frame status managed by the frame status management unit 56.
[0024] The low power consumption interval setting unit 58 sets the start and end positions of an interval during which the device is driven with low power consumption. The low power consumption interval control unit 59 controls the interval during which the device is driven with low power consumption to start from the start position set by the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 and to end at the end position.
[0025] <Operation of Imaging Device in Normal Imaging Mode> The operation of the imaging device 11 when performing imaging processing will be described with reference to Fig. 3. In the following description, a mode in which a frame is generated (output) for each synchronization signal will be referred to as a normal imaging mode, and a mode in which fewer frames are captured than the number of frames captured in the normal imaging mode will be referred to as a thinned-out imaging mode. Imaging in the normal imaging mode will be described with reference to Fig. 3, and imaging in the thinned-out imaging mode will be described with reference to Fig. 4.
[0026] In normal imaging mode, a frame is generated for each synchronization signal by repeatedly performing a read operation and a shutter operation in synchronization with the synchronization signal XVS, as shown in Fig. 3. The period from a predetermined synchronization signal to the next synchronization signal is defined as one frame, and a frame in which a read operation and a shutter operation are performed within that frame will be referred to as a lead / shutter frame hereinafter.
[0027] Control relating to the imaging of the lead shutter frame is performed by the frame control unit 57 when the normal imaging mode is set in the mode switching unit 55. The frame control unit 57 executes a read operation in accordance with the synchronization signal generated by the synchronization signal generation unit 53, and executes a shutter operation in accordance with the set exposure time.
[0028] <Operation of imaging device in thinning-out imaging mode> Imaging processing in the thinning-out imaging mode will be described with reference to Fig. 4. Processing in the thinning-out imaging mode is performed by the frame control unit 57 based on the frame status managed by the frame status management unit 56 when the thinning-out imaging mode is set by the mode switching unit 55.
[0029] In the example shown in FIG. 4, frames F12, F13, and F14 are set as thinned-out frames.
[0030] For frame F11, information indicating that it is a read / shutter frame is set in the frame status management unit 56, and based on this setting, the frame control unit 57 performs control, whereby the read operation and the shutter operation are performed within one frame.
[0031] Frame F12 is a thinned frame, but is treated as a read frame because the signal obtained by the shutter operation executed in the previous frame F11 is read out. Information indicating that frame F12 is a read frame is set in the frame status management unit 56, and based on this setting, the frame control unit 57 performs control to perform a read operation within one frame.
[0032] Frame F13 is a thinned-out frame, and is a frame in which no read operation or shutter operation is performed. Information indicating that frame F13 is a thinned-out frame is set in the frame status management unit 56, and based on this setting, the frame control unit 57 does not perform control, so that frame F13 is a frame in which no read operation or shutter operation is performed.
[0033] Frame F14 is a thinned-out frame, but is treated as a shutter frame because a shutter operation is performed to generate a signal to be read in the readout operation executed in the subsequent frame F15. Information indicating that frame F14 is a shutter frame is set in the frame status management unit 56, and based on this setting, the frame control unit 57 performs control to perform a shutter operation within one frame.
[0034] Thus, in this embodiment, four types of frames are set: lead shutter frame, lead frame, thinned frame, and shutter frame, and the frame types are managed by the frame status management unit 56. The frame status management unit 56 can be configured with, for example, a register. The frame control unit 57 controls the read operation and shutter operation according to the frame type managed by the frame status management unit 56.
[0035] In the thinned-out frames, shutter operations and read operations are not performed, in the shutter frames, read operations are not performed, and in the read frames, shutter operations are not performed. During these sections where shutter operations and read operations are not performed, driving related to the imaging process can be stopped. During sections where driving related to the imaging process can be stopped, low power consumption can be achieved by turning off at least one circuit, for example, a clock oscillation circuit such as a PLL circuit, or a charge pump circuit such as a voltage step-up circuit or voltage step-down circuit.
[0036] The period in which the PLL circuit and the analog circuit are turned off is referred to as a low power consumption period. The imaging process when a low power consumption period is set in the imaging process shown in FIG. 4 will be described with reference to FIG. 5.
[0037] <Setting of Low Power Consumption Section> In the example shown in FIG. 5, a low power consumption section is also provided in the lead shutter frame.
[0038] Frame F11 is a read / shutter frame in which a read operation and a shutter operation are performed, and if the time between the read operation and the shutter operation is equal to or longer than a predetermined time, a low power consumption section is provided.
[0039] During the low power consumption period, it is possible to stop the operation of parts such as the parts whose operation is controlled by the PLL control signal of the imaging control clock, and the step-up circuit or step-down circuit that supplies operating voltage to the vertical driver circuit and horizontal driver circuit (not shown).
[0040] Referring to Figure 6, the setting of the low power consumption section will be explained using a read shutter frame as an example. The low power consumption section is set by the low power consumption section setting unit 58 (Figure 2). The low power consumption section setting unit 58 acquires parameters related to the time required for the read operation, calculates the end time of the read operation, and sets the start position of the low power consumption section. The start position of the low power consumption section is the elapsed time from the synchronization signal XVS, and is calculated using this elapsed time as a parameter. Based on this parameter, the low power consumption section control unit 59 sets the start position by switching the control signal that controls the on / off of the PLL circuit, analog circuit, etc. to a signal that instructs off.
[0041] The low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates the scheduled start time of the shutter operation and sets the start position of the low power consumption interval. The end position of the low power consumption interval is the time that elapses until the synchronization signal XVS for the frame following the frame being processed is issued, and this time is calculated as a parameter. Based on this parameter, the low power consumption interval control unit 59 sets the end position by switching the control signal that controls the on / off of the PLL circuit, analog circuit, etc. to a signal that instructs on. The time that elapses until the synchronization signal XVS for the next frame is issued is the time from the start of the shutter operation to the issuance of the synchronization signal XVS, and corresponds to the exposure time (CIT).
[0042] Returning to the explanation with reference to Figure 5, frame F12 is a read frame, in which a read operation is performed in the first half and a low power consumption section is set in the second half. Frame F13 is a thinning frame, in which neither a read operation nor a shutter operation is performed, so the entire frame is set as a low power consumption section. Frame F14 is a shutter frame, in which a low power consumption section is set in the first half and a shutter operation is performed in the second half.
[0043] 5 shows an example in which a low power consumption section is set before the shutter operation in frame F14, but a low power consumption section may be set after the shutter operation. Also, depending on the length of the frame and the position where the shutter operation is performed, there may be cases in which a low power consumption section is set before and after the shutter operation, for example.
[0044] Also in frames F12, F13, and F14, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 acquires parameters related to the read operation and shutter operation, and sets the start time and end time of the low power consumption interval according to the acquired parameters. The low power consumption interval control unit 59 controls the low power consumption interval so that it starts from the set start time and ends at the set end time.
[0045] Referring to Figure 7, further explanation will be given on the setting of the low power consumption section. As with the case explained with reference to Figures 4 and 5, the example shown in Figure 7 will be explained using an example in which frame F11 is a lead shutter frame, frame F12 is a lead frame, frame F13 is a thinned frame, and frame F14 is a shutter frame. In Figure 7, SH indicates a section in which a shutter operation is performed, and RD indicates a section in which a read operation is performed. In Figure 7, FW processing indicates a section in which firmware processing is performed. FW processing is processing by the low power consumption section setting unit 58.
[0046] At time T11, the read operation of the read shutter frame (frame F11) is started when the synchronization signal generation unit 53 outputs the synchronization signal XVS. Before the read operation of frame F11 is started, that is, in this case, before time T11, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates a start interrupt parameter for setting the start time of the low power consumption interval and an end interrupt parameter for setting the end time of the low power consumption interval (these are executed in the interval marked as FW processing in the figure).
[0047] In this case, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 acquires information regarding the time related to the read operation of frame F11 and the exposure time, and calculates a start interrupt parameter and an end interrupt parameter based on that information. The calculated parameters are written to, for example, a register. In the example shown in FIG. 7 , A is calculated as the start interrupt parameter, and the information A is written to the register between time T11 and time T12. Similarly, M is calculated as the end interrupt parameter, and the information M is written to the register between time T11 and time T12.
[0048] The low power consumption interval control unit 59 references the start interrupt parameter written in the register, in this case parameter A, and issues a start interrupt signal at time t21, which is A after time T11. When the start interrupt signal is issued at time t21, the drive control signal is set to Hi, and the low power consumption interval begins. The drive control signal is a signal for turning off parts of the analog circuit that are controlled by the standby control signal and PLL control signal; when Hi, these signals are turned off, and when Low, these signals are turned on.
[0049] The low power consumption period control unit 59 references the end interrupt parameter written in the register, in this case the parameter M, and issues an end interrupt signal so that the time after M has elapsed becomes time T12 (the time when the synchronization signal XVS is issued). When the end interrupt signal is issued, the drive control signal is returned to the low state, and the low power consumption period ends.
[0050] While processing in frame F11 is being executed, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates interrupt parameters and end parameters for the next frame F12.
[0051] The low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates start interrupt parameters and end interrupt parameters for each of the four types of frames and writes the parameters for each of the four types of frames into a register. The low power consumption interval control unit 59 references the frame status managed by the frame status management unit 56, reads out parameters that match the referenced frame status, and sets a low power consumption interval according to the read parameters.
[0052] For example, in the example shown in Figure 7, at a point before time T12, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates the parameters of the lead shutter frame (referred to as lead shutter parameters), the parameters of the lead frame (referred to as lead parameters), the parameters of the thinned frame (referred to as thinned parameters), and the parameters of the shutter frame (referred to as shutter parameters).
[0053] The read shutter parameter, read parameter, thinning parameter, and shutter parameter calculated by the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 are written to registers. In the example shown in Fig. 7, although it appears as if only one parameter is written, four types of start interrupt parameters and end interrupt parameters for each frame are actually written.
[0054] FIG. 7 shows an example in which the start interrupt parameter of the read parameters is A and the end interrupt parameter is N written to the register when frame F12 is being processed.
[0055] At time T12, the low power consumption section control unit 59 references the frame status managed by the frame status management unit 56, recognizes that frame F12 is a read frame, and reads the read parameters from the register. In this case, A is read as the start interrupt parameter and N is read as the end interrupt parameter, and the start and end of the low power consumption section are controlled based on these parameters.
[0056] As another method of calculating the parameters, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 refers to the frame status of the next frame and calculates the frame parameters according to the frame status. At a time point before time T12, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 refers to the frame status of frame F12, recognizes that it is a read frame, calculates the start interrupt parameter and end interrupt parameter for the read frame, and writes them to registers.
[0057] At time T12, the low power consumption period control unit 59 reads the start interrupt parameter and end interrupt parameter written in the register, and controls the start and end of the low power consumption period according to the parameters.
[0058] 7, the mode switching unit 55 sets the number of frames to be thinned out, and in the example shown in FIG. 7, the setting is to thin out three frames before time t12. The first frame of the thinned-out frames, in other words, the first thinned-out frame after the lead shutter frame, is a lead frame for reading out a signal obtained by the shutter operation executed in the lead shutter frame. The low power consumption interval setting unit 58 can calculate parameters assuming that the first thinned-out frame after the lead shutter frame is a lead frame.
[0059] The last frame of the thinned-out frames, in this case the third frame of the thinned-out frames, becomes a shutter frame in which a shutter operation is performed to acquire a signal read by a read operation in the lead shutter frame because the frame immediately following it is a lead shutter frame or a lead frame. The low power consumption section setting unit 58 can calculate the parameters assuming that the last thinned-out frame is a shutter frame.
[0060] The frames between the lead frame and the shutter frame are thinned frames. When the setting is to thin out three frames, the second frame is a thinned frame, and therefore the low power consumption section setting unit 58 can calculate the parameters assuming that the second frame is a thinned frame.
[0061] In this way, the frame status may be referenced and parameters for the start and end of the low power consumption period may be calculated according to the frame status.
[0062] Before time T13, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates the start interrupt parameter and the end interrupt parameter for frame F13. In the example shown in Fig. 7, B is written to the register as the start interrupt parameter, and N is written as the end interrupt parameter.
[0063] At time t25, the low power consumption interval control unit 59 outputs a start interrupt signal to set the drive signal to Hi and start the low power consumption interval. At time t26, the low power consumption interval control unit 59 outputs an end interrupt signal to set the drive signal to Low and end the low power consumption interval.
[0064] At a point before time T14, the low power consumption interval setting unit 58 calculates the start interrupt parameter and the end interrupt parameter for frame F14. In the example shown in Fig. 7, B is written to the register as the start interrupt parameter, and M is written as the end interrupt parameter.
[0065] At time t27, the low power consumption interval control unit 59 outputs a start interrupt signal to set the drive signal to Hi and start the low power consumption interval. At time t28, the low power consumption interval control unit 59 outputs an end interrupt signal to set the drive signal to Low and end the low power consumption interval.
[0066] In this way, for each of the read shutter frame, lead frame, thinning frame, and shutter frame, a low power consumption section is set so that the imaging device 11 can be driven with low power consumption in consideration of the respective read operation time, exposure time, etc. This makes it possible to reduce power consumption in the imaging device 11.
[0067] Note that if it is not possible to set a low power consumption interval as a result of calculating the start interrupt parameter and the end interrupt parameter, the low power consumption interval is not set. For example, if the start time of the low power consumption interval based on the start interrupt parameter and the end time of the low power consumption interval based on the end interrupt parameter are reversed, the low power consumption interval is not set.
[0068] For example, if the difference between the start time of the low power consumption interval based on the start interrupt parameter and the end time of the low power consumption interval based on the end interrupt parameter is greater than a predetermined time, in other words, if the low power consumption interval that can be set is short, the low power consumption interval may not be set.
[0069] 7 shows a case where a low power consumption section is set from time t23 to time t24, a low power consumption section is set from time t25 to time t26, and a low power consumption section is set from time t27 to time t28. These low power consumption sections are set for each frame, but they may also be set as a continuous low power consumption section spanning frames. In other words, in this case, a configuration may be adopted in which a low power consumption section is set from time t23 to time t28.
[0070] By setting a low power consumption section for each synchronization signal XVS, it is possible to set a finer low power consumption section, and for example, it is possible to accommodate changes in the number of frames to be thinned out, changes in the position of the shutter frame, etc. On the other hand, by setting a low power consumption section across frames, it is possible to achieve even lower power consumption.
[0071] According to the present technology, it is possible to set a finer section where power consumption can be reduced, and it is possible to provide an imaging device 11 that achieves low power consumption.
[0072] <Regarding the Recording Medium> The above-described series of processes can be executed by hardware or software. When the series of processes is executed by software, the programs that make up the software are installed on a computer. Here, the term "computer" includes computers built into dedicated hardware, and general-purpose personal computers, for example, that can execute various functions by installing various programs.
[0073] 8 is a block diagram showing an example of the hardware configuration of a computer that executes the above-mentioned series of processes using a program. An input / output interface 2005 is also connected to the bus 2004. An input unit 2006, an output unit 2007, a storage unit 2008, a communication unit 2009, and a drive 2010 are connected to the input / output interface 2005.
[0074] The input unit 2006 includes a keyboard, a mouse, a microphone, etc. The output unit 2007 includes a display, a speaker, etc. The storage unit 2008 includes a hard disk, a non-volatile memory, etc. The communication unit 2009 includes a network interface, etc. The drive 2010 drives removable media 2011 such as a magnetic disk, an optical disk, a magneto-optical disk, or a semiconductor memory.
[0075] In a computer configured as described above, the CPU 2001 performs the above-described series of processes by, for example, loading a program stored in the memory unit 2008 into the RAM 2003 via the input / output interface 2005 and the bus 2004 and executing it.
[0076] The program executed by the computer (CPU 2001) can be provided by being recorded on, for example, a removable medium 2011 such as a package medium. The program can also be provided via a wired or wireless transmission medium such as a local area network, the Internet, or digital satellite broadcasting.
[0077] In the computer, the program can be installed in the storage unit 2008 via the input / output interface 2005 by inserting the removable medium 2011 into the drive 2010. The program can also be received by the communication unit 2009 via a wired or wireless transmission medium and installed in the storage unit 2008. Alternatively, the program can be installed in advance in the ROM 2002 or the storage unit 2008.
[0078] The program executed by the computer may be a program that processes in chronological order according to the order described in this specification, or may be a program that processes in parallel or at the required timing, such as when called.

[0082] The endoscope 11100 is composed of a lens barrel 11101, a region of a predetermined length from the tip of which is inserted into a body cavity of a patient 11132, and a camera head 11102 connected to the base end of the lens barrel 11101. In the example shown, the endoscope 11100 is configured as a so-called rigid scope having a rigid lens barrel 11101, but the endoscope 11100 may also be configured as a so-called flexible scope having a flexible lens barrel.
[0083] An opening into which an objective lens is fitted is provided at the tip of the lens barrel 11101. A light source device 11203 is connected to the endoscope 11100, and light generated by the light source device 11203 is guided to the tip of the lens barrel by a light guide extending inside the lens barrel 11101, and is irradiated via the objective lens toward an object to be observed inside the body cavity of the patient 11132. The endoscope 11100 may be a direct-viewing endoscope, an oblique-viewing endoscope, or a side-viewing endoscope.
[0084] An optical system and an image sensor are provided inside the camera head 11102, and light reflected from the object of observation (observation light) is collected onto the image sensor by the optical system. The observation light is photoelectrically converted by the image sensor to generate an electrical signal corresponding to the observation light, i.e., an image signal corresponding to the observed image. The image signal is sent to a camera control unit (CCU) 11201 as RAW data.
[0085] The CCU 11201 is configured with a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), etc., and comprehensively controls the operations of the endoscope 11100 and the display device 11202. Furthermore, the CCU 11201 receives an image signal from the camera head 11102 and performs various types of image processing on the image signal, such as development processing (demosaic processing), to display an image based on the image signal.
[0086] Under the control of the CCU 11201, the display device 11202 displays an image based on an image signal that has been subjected to image processing by the CCU 11201.
[0087] The light source device 11203 is composed of a light source such as an LED (light emitting diode), and supplies irradiation light to the endoscope 11100 when photographing the surgical site, etc.
[0088] The input device 11204 is an input interface for the endoscopic surgery system 11000. A user can input various information and instructions to the endoscopic surgery system 11000 via the input device 11204. For example, the user inputs an instruction to change the imaging conditions (type of irradiation light, magnification, focal length, etc.) of the endoscope 11100.
[0089] The treatment tool control device 11205 controls the driving of the energy treatment tool 11112 for cauterizing tissue, incising, sealing blood vessels, etc. The insufflation device 11206 inflates the body cavity of the patient 11132 through the insufflation tube 11111 in order to ensure a clear field of view for the endoscope 11100 and a working space for the surgeon. The recorder 11207 is a device capable of recording various types of information related to the surgery. The printer 11208 is a device capable of printing various types of information related to the surgery in various formats such as text, images, or graphs.
[0090] The light source device 11203, which supplies illumination light to the endoscope 11100 when photographing the surgical site, can be configured from a white light source, such as an LED, a laser light source, or a combination of these. When the white light source is configured from a combination of RGB laser light sources, the output intensity and output timing of each color (each wavelength) can be controlled with high precision, allowing the light source device 11203 to adjust the white balance of the captured image. In this case, it is also possible to time-share images corresponding to each RGB by irradiating the object of observation with laser light from each RGB laser light source and controlling the drive of the image sensor of the camera head 11102 in synchronization with the irradiation timing. According to this method, color images can be obtained without providing a color filter to the image sensor.
[0091] Furthermore, the light source device 11203 may be controlled to change the intensity of light it outputs at predetermined time intervals. By controlling the driving of the image sensor of the camera head 11102 in synchronization with the timing of the change in light intensity to acquire images in a time-division manner and combining the images, it is possible to generate an image with a high dynamic range that is free from so-called blocked-up shadows and blown-out highlights.
[0092] The light source device 11203 may also be configured to supply light in a predetermined wavelength band corresponding to special light observation. Special light observation, for example, utilizes the wavelength dependence of light absorption in body tissues to irradiate light with a narrower band than the light irradiated during normal observation (i.e., white light), thereby capturing high-contrast images of specific tissues, such as blood vessels on the surface of mucous membranes, known as narrow-band imaging. Alternatively, special light observation may involve fluorescence observation, in which images are obtained using fluorescence generated by irradiating excitation light. Fluorescence observation may involve irradiating excitation light onto body tissues and observing the fluorescence from the tissue (autofluorescence observation), or by locally injecting a reagent such as indocyanine green (ICG) into the body tissue and irradiating the tissue with excitation light corresponding to the fluorescent wavelength of the reagent to obtain a fluorescent image. The light source device 11203 may be configured to supply narrow-band light and / or excitation light corresponding to such special light observation.
[0093] FIG. 10 is a block diagram showing an example of the functional configuration of the camera head 11102 and the CCU 11201 shown in FIG.
[0094] The camera head 11102 has a lens unit 11401, an imaging unit 11402, a drive unit 11403, a communication unit 11404, and a camera head control unit 11405. The CCU 11201 has a communication unit 11411, an image processing unit 11412, and a control unit 11413. The camera head 11102 and the CCU 11201 are connected to each other via a transmission cable 11400 so that they can communicate with each other.
[0095] The lens unit 11401 is an optical system provided at the connection portion with the lens barrel 11101. Observation light taken in from the tip of the lens barrel 11101 is guided to the camera head 11102 and enters the lens unit 11401. The lens unit 11401 is composed of a combination of multiple lenses including a zoom lens and a focus lens.
[0096] The imaging unit 11402 may include one imaging element (a so-called single-chip type) or multiple imaging elements (a so-called multi-chip type). When the imaging unit 11402 is configured as a multi-chip type, for example, each imaging element may generate an image signal corresponding to each of RGB, and a color image may be obtained by combining these signals. Alternatively, the imaging unit 11402 may be configured to have a pair of imaging elements for acquiring image signals for the right eye and the left eye corresponding to a 3D (dimensional) display. The 3D display allows the surgeon 11131 to more accurately grasp the depth of the biological tissue at the surgical site. Note that when the imaging unit 11402 is configured as a multi-chip type, multiple lens units 11401 may be provided corresponding to each imaging element.
[0097] Furthermore, the imaging unit 11402 does not necessarily have to be provided in the camera head 11102. For example, the imaging unit 11402 may be provided inside the lens barrel 11101, immediately after the objective lens.
[0098] The driving unit 11403 is configured by an actuator, and moves the zoom lens and focus lens of the lens unit 11401 by a predetermined distance along the optical axis under the control of the camera head control unit 11405. This allows the magnification and focus of the image captured by the imaging unit 11402 to be adjusted appropriately.
[0099] The communication unit 11404 is configured by a communication device for transmitting and receiving various types of information to and from the CCU 11201. The communication unit 11404 transmits the image signal obtained from the imaging unit 11402 to the CCU 11201 via the transmission cable 11400 as RAW data.
[0100] Furthermore, the communication unit 11404 receives a control signal for controlling the driving of the camera head 11102 from the CCU 11201 and supplies the control signal to the camera head control unit 11405. The control signal includes information on the imaging conditions, such as information specifying the frame rate of the captured image, information specifying the exposure value at the time of imaging, and / or information specifying the magnification and focus of the captured image.
[0101] The image capturing conditions such as the frame rate, exposure value, magnification, and focus may be appropriately specified by the user, or may be automatically set by the control unit 11413 of the CCU 11201 based on the acquired image signal. In the latter case, the endoscope 11100 is equipped with a so-called AE (Auto Exposure) function, AF (Auto Focus) function, and AWB (Auto White Balance) function.
[0102] The camera head control unit 11405 controls the driving of the camera head 11102 based on a control signal received from the CCU 11201 via the communication unit 11404 .
[0103] The communication unit 11411 is configured by a communication device for transmitting and receiving various information to and from the camera head 11102. The communication unit 11411 receives an image signal transmitted from the camera head 11102 via the transmission cable 11400.
[0104] Furthermore, the communication unit 11411 transmits to the camera head 11102 a control signal for controlling the driving of the camera head 11102. The image signal and the control signal can be transmitted by electrical communication, optical communication, or the like.
[0105] The image processing unit 11412 performs various image processing operations on the image signal, which is RAW data transmitted from the camera head 11102 .
[0106] The control unit 11413 performs various controls related to the imaging of the surgical site, etc. by the endoscope 11100 and the display of the captured image obtained by imaging the surgical site, etc. For example, the control unit 11413 generates a control signal for controlling the driving of the camera head 11102.
[0107] Furthermore, the control unit 11413 displays the captured image showing the surgical site, etc., on the display device 11202 based on the image signal subjected to image processing by the image processing unit 11412. At this time, the control unit 11413 may recognize various objects in the captured image using various image recognition technologies. For example, the control unit 11413 can recognize surgical tools such as forceps, specific biological parts, bleeding, mist generated when using the energy treatment tool 11112, etc., by detecting the shape and color of the edges of objects included in the captured image. When displaying the captured image on the display device 11202, the control unit 11413 may use the recognition results to superimpose various surgical support information on the image of the surgical site. By superimposing the surgical support information and presenting it to the surgeon 11131, the burden on the surgeon 11131 can be reduced and the surgeon 11131 can proceed with the surgery reliably.
[0108] The transmission cable 11400 connecting the camera head 11102 and the CCU 11201 is an electrical signal cable for electrical signal communication, an optical fiber for optical communication, or a composite cable of these.
[0109] In the illustrated example, communication is performed wired using a transmission cable 11400, but communication between the camera head 11102 and the CCU 11201 may also be performed wirelessly.
[0110] <Application to a Mobile Body> The technology according to the present disclosure (the present technology) can be applied to various products. For example, the technology according to the present disclosure may be realized as a device mounted on any type of mobile body, such as an automobile, an electric vehicle, a hybrid electric vehicle, a motorcycle, a bicycle, personal mobility, an airplane, a drone, a ship, or a robot.
[0111] FIG. 11 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration example of a vehicle control system, which is an example of a mobile object control system to which the technology according to the present disclosure can be applied.
[0112] The vehicle control system 12000 includes a plurality of electronic control units connected via a communication network 12001. In the example shown in Fig. 11, the vehicle control system 12000 includes a drive system control unit 12010, a body system control unit 12020, an outside-vehicle information detection unit 12030, an inside-vehicle information detection unit 12040, and an integrated control unit 12050. Also shown as functional components of the integrated control unit 12050 are a microcomputer 12051, an audio / video output unit 12052, and an in-vehicle network I / F (Interface) 12053.
[0113] The drivetrain control unit 12010 controls the operation of devices related to the drivetrain of the vehicle in accordance with various programs. For example, the drivetrain control unit 12010 functions as a control device for a drive force generating device for generating a drive force of the vehicle, such as an internal combustion engine or a drive motor, a drive force transmission mechanism for transmitting the drive force to the wheels, a steering mechanism for adjusting the steering angle of the vehicle, and a braking device for generating a braking force of the vehicle.
[0114] The body system control unit 12020 controls the operation of various devices equipped in the vehicle body according to various programs. For example, the body system control unit 12020 functions as a control device for a keyless entry system, a smart key system, a power window device, or various lamps such as headlamps, backup lamps, brake lamps, turn signals, and fog lamps. In this case, radio waves transmitted from a portable device that serves as a key or signals from various switches can be input to the body system control unit 12020. The body system control unit 12020 receives these radio waves or signals and controls the vehicle's door lock device, power window device, lamps, etc.
[0115] The outside-vehicle information detection unit 12030 detects information outside the vehicle equipped with the vehicle control system 12000. For example, an imaging unit 12031 is connected to the outside-vehicle information detection unit 12030. The outside-vehicle information detection unit 12030 causes the imaging unit 12031 to capture images outside the vehicle and receives the captured images. The outside-vehicle information detection unit 12030 may perform object detection processing or distance detection processing for people, cars, obstacles, signs, characters on the road surface, etc. based on the received images.
[0116] The imaging unit 12031 is an optical sensor that receives light and outputs an electrical signal corresponding to the amount of light received. The imaging unit 12031 can output the electrical signal as an image or as distance measurement information. The light received by the imaging unit 12031 may be visible light or invisible light such as infrared light.
[0117] The in-vehicle information detection unit 12040 detects information inside the vehicle. For example, a driver state detection unit 12041 that detects the state of the driver is connected to the in-vehicle information detection unit 12040. The driver state detection unit 12041 includes, for example, a camera that captures an image of the driver, and the in-vehicle information detection unit 12040 may calculate the degree of fatigue or concentration of the driver based on the detection information input from the driver state detection unit 12041, or may determine whether the driver is dozing off.
[0118] The microcomputer 12051 can calculate control target values for the driving force generating device, steering mechanism, or braking device based on the information inside and outside the vehicle acquired by the outside-vehicle information detection unit 12030 or the inside-vehicle information detection unit 12040, and output control commands to the drive system control unit 12010. For example, the microcomputer 12051 can perform cooperative control aimed at realizing the functions of an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), including vehicle collision avoidance or impact mitigation, following driving based on the distance between vehicles, maintaining vehicle speed, vehicle collision warning, vehicle lane departure warning, etc.
[0119] In addition, the microcomputer 12051 can perform cooperative control for the purpose of autonomous driving, which allows the vehicle to travel autonomously without relying on driver operation, by controlling the driving force generating device, steering mechanism, braking device, etc. based on information about the surroundings of the vehicle obtained by the outside vehicle information detection unit 12030 or the inside vehicle information detection unit 12040.
[0120] Furthermore, the microcomputer 12051 can output a control command to the body system control unit 12020 based on the information outside the vehicle acquired by the outside information detection unit 12030. For example, the microcomputer 12051 can control the headlamps according to the position of a preceding vehicle or an oncoming vehicle detected by the outside information detection unit 12030, and perform cooperative control aimed at preventing glare, such as switching from high beams to low beams.
[0121] The audio / video output unit 12052 transmits at least one of audio and video output signals to an output device capable of visually or audibly notifying the passengers of the vehicle or the outside of the vehicle of information. In the example of Fig. 11, the output devices are exemplified by an audio speaker 12061, a display unit 12062, and an instrument panel 12063. The display unit 12062 may include, for example, at least one of an on-board display and a head-up display.
[0122] FIG. 12 is a diagram showing an example of the installation position of the imaging unit 12031.
[0123] In FIG. 12, the imaging unit 12031 includes imaging units 12101, 12102, 12103, 12104, and 12105.
[0124] The imaging units 12101, 12102, 12103, 12104, and 12105 are provided, for example, at positions such as the front nose, side mirrors, rear bumper, back door, and the top of the windshield inside the vehicle cabin of the vehicle 12100. The imaging unit 12101 provided on the front nose and the imaging unit 12105 provided on the top of the windshield inside the vehicle cabin mainly acquire images of the front of the vehicle 12100. The imaging units 12102 and 12103 provided on the side mirrors mainly acquire images of the sides of the vehicle 12100. The imaging unit 12104 provided on the rear bumper or back door mainly acquires images of the rear of the vehicle 12100. The imaging unit 12105 provided on the top of the windshield inside the vehicle cabin is mainly used to detect preceding vehicles, pedestrians, obstacles, traffic lights, traffic signs, lanes, etc.
[0125] 12 shows an example of the imaging ranges of the imaging units 12101 to 12104. Imaging range 12111 indicates the imaging range of the imaging unit 12101 provided on the front nose, imaging ranges 12112 and 12113 indicate the imaging ranges of the imaging units 12102 and 12103 provided on the side mirrors, respectively, and imaging range 12114 indicates the imaging range of the imaging unit 12104 provided on the rear bumper or back door. For example, by overlaying the image data captured by the imaging units 12101 to 12104, an overhead image of the vehicle 12100 viewed from above can be obtained.
[0126] At least one of the image capturing units 12101 to 12104 may have a function of acquiring distance information. For example, at least one of the image capturing units 12101 to 12104 may be a stereo camera made up of multiple image capturing elements, or may be an image capturing element having pixels for phase difference detection.
[0127] For example, based on the distance information obtained from the imaging units 12101 to 12104, the microcomputer 12051 can calculate the distance to each three-dimensional object within the imaging ranges 12111 to 12114 and the change in this distance over time (relative speed with respect to the vehicle 12100), thereby extracting as a preceding vehicle, in particular, the three-dimensional object that is the closest three-dimensional object on the path of the vehicle 12100 and traveling in approximately the same direction as the vehicle 12100 at a predetermined speed (e.g., 0 km / h or higher). Furthermore, the microcomputer 12051 can set a vehicle-to-vehicle distance to be maintained in advance in front of the preceding vehicle, and perform automatic braking control (including follow-up stop control), automatic acceleration control (including follow-up start control), etc. In this way, cooperative control can be performed for the purpose of autonomous driving, which allows the vehicle to travel autonomously without relying on driver operation.
[0128] For example, the microcomputer 12051 classifies and extracts three-dimensional object data regarding three-dimensional objects into two-wheeled vehicles, ordinary vehicles, large vehicles, pedestrians, utility poles, and other three-dimensional objects based on distance information obtained from the imaging units 12101 to 12104, and can use the data for automatic obstacle avoidance. For example, the microcomputer 12051 distinguishes obstacles around the vehicle 12100 into obstacles that are visible to the driver of the vehicle 12100 and obstacles that are difficult to see. The microcomputer 12051 then determines a collision risk that indicates the risk of collision with each obstacle, and when the collision risk is equal to or greater than a set value and a collision is possible, the microcomputer 12051 can provide driving assistance for collision avoidance by outputting an alarm to the driver via the audio speaker 12061 or the display unit 12062, or by performing forced deceleration or avoidance steering via the drive system control unit 12010.
[0129] At least one of the image capturing units 12101 to 12104 may be an infrared camera that detects infrared rays. For example, the microcomputer 12051 can recognize a pedestrian by determining whether a pedestrian is present in the images captured by the image capturing units 12101 to 12104. Such pedestrian recognition is performed, for example, by extracting feature points from the images captured by the image capturing units 12101 to 12104 as infrared cameras and performing pattern matching on a series of feature points that indicate the outline of an object to determine whether the object is a pedestrian. When the microcomputer 12051 determines that a pedestrian is present in the images captured by the image capturing units 12101 to 12104 and recognizes the pedestrian, the audio / image output unit 12052 controls the display unit 12062 to superimpose a rectangular outline on the recognized pedestrian for emphasis. The audio / image output unit 12052 may also control the display unit 12062 to display an icon or the like indicating the pedestrian at a desired position.

An imaging method in which an imaging device controls one of a first frame in which a read operation and a shutter operation are performed, a second frame in which a read operation is performed, a third frame in which a shutter operation is performed, or a fourth frame in which neither a read operation nor a shutter operation is performed, and controls a section in the controlled frame in which the read operation or the shutter operation is not performed as a low power consumption section in which imaging drive is stopped.
12. A program for causing a computer that controls an imaging device to execute processing including the steps of: controlling one of a first frame in which a read operation and a shutter operation are performed, a second frame in which a read operation is performed, a third frame in which a shutter operation is performed, or a fourth frame in which neither a read operation nor a shutter operation is performed; and controlling, in the controlled frame, a section in which the read operation or the shutter operation is not performed as a low power consumption section in which imaging drive is stopped.
