[0028] The fifth generation of mobile networks defined by 3rd generation partnership program (3GPP) , has not only introduced 5G new radio (NR) , but has also brought in a new core network (CN) relying on an open and modular service platform: the service-based architecture (SBA) . SBA provides a cloud-native service framework in which mobile core network functionalities (authentication, mobility management, etc. ) are supported by NFs (or referred to as NF entities) , self-contained software applications that can be run on commercial off-the-shelf hardware hosted by cloud infrastructure. Interconnected on a logically shared infrastructure or service bus, NFs offer services accessible to any other authorized NF through application programming interfaces (APIs) named service-based interfaces (SBI) .

[0029] The adoption of the SBA with APIs exposing services has contributed to migrate the mobile core network, traditionally conceived as a walled garden relying on telco-specific point-to-point protocols (e.g., Diameter) , to a scalable, resilient and extensible service-oriented environment, more open to third-party developers and vertical industries for the creation of on-demand tailored services. Thus, the industry desires to introduce the service based interface for service-oriented interaction between RANs (e.g., neighbor RAN nodes or RAN entities etc. ) or between a RAN (RAN node or RAN entity) and a CN (e.g., NF or NF entity) . Accordingly, how to discover or invoke RAN services or CN services over SBI between different RAN entities or between a RAN entity and NF entity should be solved.

[0030] Various aspects of the present disclosure propose that a RAN entity (hereinafter, first RAN entity for clarity) , e.g., as a service producer may directly send service related information at this RAN entity (hereinafter, first service related information for clarity) to another RAN entity (hereinafter second RAN entity for clarity) or NF, e.g., an access and mobility management functions (AMF) or the like. The first service related information may indicate services supported at the first RAN entity or indicate no services being supported at the first RAN entity. Examples of the first and second RAN entities may be a gNB or gNB-central unit (CU) or gNB-distributed unit (DU) etc.

[0031] Similarly, the second RAN entity, e.g., as a service producer may also directly send service related information at the second RAN entity (hereinafter second service related information for clarity) to the first RAN entity. The second service related information may indicate services supported at the second RAN entity or indicate no services being supported at the second RAN entity. The NF, e.g., the AMF may also directly send service related information at the NF (hereinafter, third service related information for clarity) to the first RAN entity, indicating services supported at this NF or indicate no services being supported at this NF. The transmission of service related information between different RAN entities or between a RAN entity and NF may be over an interface used for messages dedicated between different RAN entities or between a RAN entity and CN entity, e.g., a SCTP based interface, which means communications via a SCTP based interface procedure or a SCTP based message or the like.

[0032] On the other hand, from the perspective of service consumers, based on the received service related information, if a RAN entity, e.g., the first RAN entity as a service consumer is to invoke or request services at a service producer, e.g., another RAN entity (e.g., the second RAN entity) or a NF (e.g., the AMF) , the first RAN entity may directly send a service request to the servicer producer, e.g., the second RAN entity or AMF. Accordingly, the second RAN entity or AMF may respond a service response to the first RAN entity based on the received service request. Similar procedures are also applicable in the case of invoking or requesting services from the first RAN entity by the second RAN entity or the NF. The transmissions of the service request and service response between different RAN entities or between a RAN entity and NF may be over a service based interface between different RAN entities or between RAN and NF, e.g., a HTTP based SBI, which means communications via a HTTP based interface procedure or a HTTP based message or the like.

[0033] Since service discovery or invoking procedures between different RAN entities or between a RAN entity and NF do not relies on the network repository function (NRF) and network exposure function (NEF) or the like as legacy standards, the service discovery or invoking procedures in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure will be advantageous in low signaling overhead and high efficiency.

[0034] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0035] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0036] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0037] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102. In some embodiments, the NEs 102 may include one or more relay nodes, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes or wireless access backhaul (WAB) nodes which can provide wireless access services for UEs 104. A relay node (or an IAB node or a WAB node) can directly connect to a BS or hop through one or more relay nodes (or one or more IAB or WAB nodes) before reaching the BS.

[0038] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0039] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0040] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0041] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0042] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0043] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0044] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0045] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0046] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0047] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0048] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0049] Under 5G, services exposed by an NF (e.g., as a service producer) to another NF (e.g., as a service consumer) are described using API specifications that identify the set of accessible service data and indicate the authorized operations on these service data. In this service platform, every NF can expose services and consume services provided by other NF. Since NFs are loosely coupled and interfaced with APIs, they can be easily deployed anywhere, on demand, without impact on the existing ones. New services or service instances are published in a centralized repository –the NRF –accessible to all the NFs to discover the services available in the network and retrieve required routing information to interact with the NFs supporting the services. These services can also be made open to third-party applications through a dedicated NF, e.g., the NEF. The NEF exposes secured APIs to external or internal applications for a robust but easy access to the core network services and capabilities supported by the NFs.

[0050] In addition, end-to-end communications between RAN, e.g., next generation (NG) -RAN and a CN NF or entity, e.g., network data analytics function (NWDAF) is not supported in 5G because the only interface that NG-RAN maintains towards 5GC is the point to point NG interface towards 5G AMF. Any communication between NG-RAN node or entity and other 5GC node or entity has to be relayed by 5G AMF, which is not efficient.

[0051] Thus, the industry desires that the RAN in the future, e.g., NG-RAN under 6G (6G-RAN) or higher generation may support a service based interface, e.g., Nran towards the CN, e.g., 6GC, which may be used for data collection, artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) analytics, positioning, and sensing etc., various services. The service based interface allows end-to-end communications between 6G-RAN node or entity and a CN node or entity under 6G (6GC node or entity) . That is, the 6GC node or entity can invoke the services provided by the 6G-RAN node if it knows the corresponding uniform resource identifier (URI) , vice versa. In some cases, the service based interface may allow NF (s) , e.g., NWDAF or location management function (LMF) etc., positioned in RAN side rather than CN side as legacy.

[0052] Figure 2 illustrates an example of a 6G network architecture in accordance aspects of the present disclosure, which may also be applicable for a higher generation network. The exemplary 6G network architecture illustrated in Figure 2 may be targeting 6G computing power network or other networks.

[0053] Referring to Figure 2, a 6G or higher generation RAN node or entity, e.g., RAN#1 may support an interface used for messages dedicated between the RAN and a specific 6G or higher generation CN entity or NF, e.g., AMF, which may require fast processing, e.g., mobility related messages etc. Such an exemplary interface between RAN#1 and AMF may be still referred to as a NG application protocol (AP) (NGAP) interface or NG interface as legacy, while will evolve based on the legacy NG interface. An example of such a NG interface is a SCTP based NG interface, e.g., defined by a NG-control (C) signaling bearer providing reliable transfer of NGAP message (or NG message) over NG-C interface, wherein the transport network layer is based on IP transport, including SCTP on top of IP.

[0054] The 6G or higher generation RAN node or entity, e.g., RAN#1 may also support an interface used for messages dedicated between RAN#1 and a different 6G or higher generation RAN entity, e.g., RAN#2, which may require fast processing, e.g., mobility related messages etc. Such an exemplary interface between RAN#1 and RAN#2 may be still referred to as an XnAP interface or Xn interface as legacy, while will evolve based on the legacy Xn interface. An example of such an Xn interface is a SCTP based Xn interface, e.g., defined by a Xn-C signaling bearer providing reliable transfer of XnAP message (or Xn message) over Xn-C interface, wherein the transport network layer is based on IP transport, including SCTP on top of IP.

[0055] Besides, the 6G or higher generation RAN node or entity, e.g., RAN#1 may further support a service based interface, e.g., Nran used for service-oriented interactions between RAN#1 and one or multiple 6G or higher generation RANs or NFs, e.g., RAN#2, AMF, NRF, session management function (SMF) and / or other NFs (e.g., LMF) etc. Such an exemplary service based interface, e.g., Nran between the NFs and RAN#1 or between RAN#1 and RAN#2 (not shown) may be a HTTP based SBI. For example, service data are defined as "resources" uniquely identified by URI at a service producer, and the service consumers use HTTP methods to access to only a representation of resources.

[0056] Persons skilled in the art would well know that the network architecture illustrated in Figure 2 is only used as example to illustrate various interfaces between different RANs and between RAN and NF in the view of RAN#1. There may be more NFs and RANs. For the perspective of another RAN entity, e.g., RAN#2, it may have the same or similar interfaces with other RAN entities and CN NFs, and thus will not repeat. In addition, the name of each RAN (node or entity) , NF and / or interface illustrated herein may be named differently during 6G standardization, and may further evolve to different terminologies as 3GPP evolves.

[0057] For example, an AMF or the like, which has a NG interface or the like and a SBI or the like with a RAN entity or the like, may provide at least the following functionalities or services. Some or all of the AMF functionalities may be supported in a single instance of an AMF: - Registration management; - Connection management; - Reachability management; - Mobility management; and - UE mobility event notification.

[0058] An exemplary RAN node or entity or the like may be a gNB or an entity of a split gNB, e.g., CU or DU of gNB. An example of the RAN entity hosts one or multiple of the following functions, wherein some or all of the RAN functionalities may be supported in a single RAN node or entity: - Functions for Radio Resource Management: Radio Bearer Control, Radio  Admission Control, Connection Mobility Control, Dynamic allocation of resources to UEs in both uplink and downlink (scheduling) ; - IP and Ethernet header compression, uplink data decompression, encryption and  integrity protection of data; - Connection setup and release; - Scheduling and transmission of paging messages; - Scheduling and transmission of system broadcast information (originated from  the AMF or OAM) ; and - Measurement and measurement reporting configuration for mobility and  scheduling.

[0059] Based on the 6G or higher generation NG interface or the like, 6G or higher generation Xn interface and 6G or higher generation SBI, e.g., Nran, various aspects of the present disclosure propose novel service-oriented interaction procedures, which does not follow the legacy SBA with APIs exposing services for 5GC.

[0060] In accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, a first RAN (node or entity, e.g., a gNB, or gNB-CU or gNB-DU etc. ) , e.g., RAN#1 as a service producer may provide first service related information at this RAN to potential service consumers, e.g., other RANs (e.g., RAN#2) and / or NF entity, e.g., AMF or the like by a SCTP based message. In the case that the potential service consumer is also a RAN, the SCTP based message may be transmitted during a procedure for setting up an interface between the two RANs, e.g., Xn interface set up procedure or the like; or a procedure for RAN configuration update between the two RANs, e.g., 6G RAN configuration update procedure or the like. In the case that the potential service consumer is a NF entity, e.g., the AMF or the like, the SCTP based message may be transmitted during a procedure for setting up an interface between the RAN and the NF entity, e.g., a NG interface set up procedure or the like; a procedure for RAN configuration update between the RAN entity and the NF entity, e.g., 6G RAN configuration update procedure or the like; or a procedure for NF configuration update between the RAN entity and the NF entity, e.g., an AMF configuration update procedure or the like. On the other hand, the first RAN, e.g., RAN#1 may also act as a potential service consumer and may receive service related information at other RANs, e.g., second service related information from a second RAN (e.g., RAN#2) or service related information at a NF entity, e.g., third service related information from the AMF or the like, which may also be via SCTP based messages during the same or similar procedures.

[0061] Exemplary services supported at a RAN entity, e.g., RAN#1 or RAN#2 may include at least one or multiple of data collection service (or event exposure service) that allows the service consumers (e.g., another RAN entity or the AMF or the like) to receive or subscribe data, e.g., measurement data and / or prediction data provided by this RAN entity; positioning service that allows the service consumers (e.g., another RAN entity or the AMF or the like) to request this RAN entity to jointly determine the location of UE; sensing service that allows the service consumers (e.g., another RAN entity or the AMF or the like) to request this RAN entity to jointly sense a certain area or a certain object; computing service (or AI / ML service) that allows the service consumers (e.g., another RAN entity or the AMF or the like) to jointly perform a computing task or jointly perform AI / ML training (e.g., federate learning) using the computing resources at this RAN entity; radio bearer management service that is used to manage user plane (UP) operations; mobility management service that is used to provide the UE context management, mobility management and multi-connectivity management; multicast broadcast service that is used to broadcast system information or multicast business data, or paging service that is used to provide the reachability of the UE etc.

[0062] In some implementations of the present disclosure, exemplary services supported at a NF, e.g., AMF or the like may include data collection service that allows the service consumers (e.g., a RAN entity) to receive or subscribe data, e.g., measurement data and / or prediction data provided by the AMF; or computing service that allows the service consumer (e.g., a RAN entity) to request the AMF to jointly perform a computing task or jointly perform AI / ML training (e.g., federate learning) using the computing resources at the AMF; or a combination thereof, or other services.

[0063] For a service supported at a RAN entity (e.g., RAN#1, or RAN#2 etc. ) or NF entity (e.g., the AMF or the like) , the service related information at the RAN entity or NF entity may further indicate a service profile associated with the service, so that the service consumer could know how to invoke the services at the service producer. An exemplary service profile may include one or multiple of: service identifier (ID) of an instance of the service, e.g., by a universally unique identifier (UUID) ; name of the service, e.g., by a string; service version number, e.g., by a string; HTTP scheme associated with the service, e.g., by a string; endpoint address of an instance of the service, e.g., fully qualified domain name (FQDN) , URI, IP or port etc., e.g., by a string; or status of the service, e.g., registered or suspended etc., e.g., by a string.

[0064] Based on the service profile, before invoking any service from a service producer, e.g., a RAN entity or a NF, a service consumer may establish a transmission control protocol (TCP) connection with the service producer. In some scenarios, multiple services indicated in the service related information may be associated with one IP address. The service related information may further indicate the IP address and port numbers separately associated with the multiple services. The service consumer would establish a TCP connection with the service producer with the IP address and the corresponding port number before invoking or requesting any service from the service producer, which is further identified by different URI addresses.

[0065] In accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, a RAN (node or entity) , e.g., RAN#1 as a service consumer may invoke or request part or all of services supported at other RAN or at the AMF or the like by sending a service request by a HTTP based message, and then receive a service response also by a HTTP based message. The service response may directly indicate the results of the services invoked by the service request or only indicate fetching related information to fetch the service results. In the case of receiving fetching related information to fetch the service results, the RAN as a servicer consumer may further send a fetching request to fetch the service results based on the received fetching related information. In the case that a NF, e.g., the AMF or the like acts as a service consumer of a RAN, similar operations will be performed by HTTP based messages over a HTTP based SBI via corresponding HTTP based procedures.

[0066] Some implementations in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated in the following respectively in view of the SBI operations or service-oriented interactions between different RAN entities (e.g., a gNB, or gNB-CU or gNB-DU etc. ) , and between a RAN entity (e.g., a gNB, or gNB-CU or DU) and a NF (e.g., an AMF or the like) . Herein, it is always assumed that the Xn interface or the like between two RAN entities and the NG interface or the like between a RAN entity and a NF are based on 6G or higher generation. Various aspects of the present disclosure would be still applicable even if the illustrated RANs, NFs and interfaces etc., are defined by different terminologies with the same or similar functionalities and services due to standardization or evolution in the future.

[0067] Figure 3 illustrates an example of service-oriented interaction procedure between different RANs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure, which is over a 6G or higher generation Xn interface or the like, e.g., as illustrated in Figure 2.

[0068] Referring to Figure 3, according to operation administration and maintenance (OAM) ’s configuration, two RAN entities, e.g., RAN#1 as a first RAN entity and RAN#2 as a second RAN entity may be aware of each other’s local address and remote address (e.g., IPv4 address, IPv6 address, and / or port number etc. ) for operating a SCTP based Xn interface procedure.

[0069] When RAN#1 desires to establish an Xn interface with RAN#2, it may trigger an Xn interface setup procedure 301 towards RAN#2. For example, RAN#1 may generate an Xn set up request message, which is a SCTP based message, and send the Xn set up request message to RAN#2 at step 301a. Besides RAN configuration related information (e.g., served cell list, and / or neighbor RAN node list etc. ) , RAN#1 may also include first service related information at RAN#1 in an exemplary Xn set up request message. The first service related information from RAN#1 may indicate the services supported by RAN#1, which can be invoked by service consumers, e.g., RAN#2, e.g., over HTTP based SBI.

[0070] For example, exemplary first service related information may indicate one or multiple services supported by RAN#1 over HTTP-based SBI as follows: - Data Collection service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 to receive  or subscribe data, e.g., measurement data and / or prediction data provided by RAN#1. Accordingly, in an example, the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 may subscribe to the resource status measurement and / or prediction (e.g., availability of radio resources, number of UE connections etc. ) of a certain cell belonging to RAN#1 by invoking the data collection service. In another example, for the purpose of AI / ML training, the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 may request RAN#1 to provide historical measurements in the past period of time in a package or bulk; - Positioning service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 to request  RAN#1 to jointly determine the UE location; - Sensing service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 to request RAN#1  to jointly sensing a certain area or a certain object; - Computing service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 to request  RAN#1 to jointly perform a computing task or jointly perform AI / ML training (e.g., federate learning) using the computing resources at RAN#1; and / or - Ambient internet of things (IoT) service that allows the service consumer, e.g.,  the AMF to request RAN#1 to support ambient IoT operation such as inventory management.

[0071] Another example of the first service related information at RAN#1 may indicate one or multiple services supported by RAN#1 over HTTP-based SBI as follows: - Radio bearer management service, used to manage UP operations. For example,  the AMF may use the radio bearer management service to create, modify or release UE context; - Mobility management service used to provide the UE context management,  mobility management and multi-connectivity management; - Multicast broadcast service used to broadcast system information or multicast  business data; and / or - Paging service used to provide the reachability of the UE.

[0072] For each service indicated in the first service related information, the first service related information may also indicate the corresponding service profile, which may contain the information related to how to invoke the indicated services. For example, the first service related information may indicate the service ID of each service instance, the names of services, the service version number, HTTP schemes for invoking the indicated services, endpoint address of instance (s) of each indicated service, and / or service status etc.

[0073] In some cases, one IP address may be used for multiple services (part or all services supported at RAN#1) , wherein each service may be further distinguished by different URI addresses. In that case, the first service related information may provide the IP address and port numbers separately applicable to the multiple services. Based on the IP address and port numbers, RAN#2 may establish a TCP connection with RAN#1 using the given IP address and port number before invoking any service.

[0074] In some cases, RAN#1 may not support any service over HTTP-based SBI, or RAN#1 does not support HTTP-based SBI at all. RAN#1 may explicitly indicate to RAN#2 this situation by including an indicator in the first service related information, indicating that no service is supported at RAN#1 or the like.

[0075] At RAN#2 side, after receiving the Xn set up request message, RAN#2 may generate an Xn set up response message, which is also a SCTP based message, and send the Xn set up response message to RAN#1 at step 301b. Besides RAN configuration related information (e.g., served cell list and / or neighbor RAN node list etc. ) , RAN#2 may also include second service related information in the Xn set up response message. Detailed second service related information is identical or similar to the first service related information, and thus will not repeat.

[0076] After the Xn Interface between RAN#1 and RAN#2 is set up, in some cases, one or both of RAN#1 and RAN#2 may further update the service related information at each side, e.g., updating the supported service types, service profiles, and / or other information related to service interactions over HTTP-based SBI.

[0077] For example, if RAN#1 wants to notify the updated first service related information, RAN#1 may trigger a RAN configuration update procedure 303, which is also a SCTP based procedure. Specifically, RAN#1 may send a RAN configuration update message at step 303a, including the updated first service related information. At the RAN#2 side, after receiving the RAN configuration update message, RAN#2 may send a RAN configuration update acknowledge message at step 303b. If RAN#2 also updates the second service related information and wants to notify the updated second service related information, RAN#2 may also include the updated second service related information in the RAN configuration update acknowledge message to RAN#1. It is similar in the case that RAN#2 triggers a RAN configuration update procedure, and thus will not repeat.

[0078] After receiving the first service related information (or the updated if any) from RAN#1, RAN#2 may invoke part or all of the services supported at RAN#1. Similarly, after receiving the second service related information (or the updated if any) from RAN#2, RAN#1 may invoke part or all of the services supported at RAN#2. Herein, it is assumed that RAN#2 is to invoke a data collection service supported at RAN#1 based on the received first service related information, e.g., by triggering a HTTP based SBI procedure 305 towards RAN#1.

[0079] Specifically, at step 305a, RAN#2 may invoke the data collection service from RAN#1 by sending a HTTP based service request, e.g., a data collection subscribe request message over Nran to the corresponding address (e.g. FQDN, URI or IP etc. ) associated with the data collection service using the corresponding HTTP scheme or method. The data collection subscribe request message may include: - Information on the data to be collected, e.g., required cell resource status  measurement and / or prediction, or UE related layer (L) 1 and / or L3 measurement result, etc.; and / or - Notification target address (s) (further with notification correlation ID in some  cases) , UE ID (s) (e.g., subscription permanent identifier (SUPI) or internal group identifier or indication that any UE is targeted) , data collection ID, filter (s) associated with each data collection ID; subscription correlation ID (in the case of modification of the event subscription) , expiry time, list of group member UE(s) whose subscription to event notification (s) are removed or added for a group-based event notification subscription, and / or operation indication (cancellation or addition) etc.

[0080] Based on the service request from RAN#2, e.g., the data collection subscribe request message, RAN#1 may perform the requested service, e.g., collecting RAN#1 side data as requested. At step 305b, RAN#1 may send a service response, e.g., by a data collection notify message over Nran to RAN#2. The data collection notify message may indicate the requested data, e.g., in the format of string, array, or object etc. In another example, the data collection notify message may indicate fetching related information or fetch instruction information that contains the address information (e.g., URI etc. ) , so that RAN#2 can fetch the file containing the required data.

[0081] In the case that RAN#1 notifies RAN#2 with the fetch instruction information at step 305b, RAN#2 may trigger another HTTP based SBI procedure 307 towards RAN#1. For example, RAN#2 may send a data collection fetch message to RAN#1 over Nran at step 307a, to fetch the file containing the requested data. RAN#1 may send the file containing the data at step 307b, e.g., by another data collection notify message over Nran to RAN#2, or via an IP tunnel in the operator network between nodes.

[0082] Figure 4 illustrates an example of service-oriented interaction procedure between a RAN entity and an AMF in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure, which is over a 6G or higher generation NG interface or the like, e.g., as illustrated in Figure 2.

[0083] Referring to Figure 4, according to OAM’s configuration, a RAN entity e.g., RAN#1 as a first RAN and the AMF may be aware of each other’s control plane transport layer Information (e.g., IPv4 address, IPv6 address, and / or port number etc. ) for operating a SCTP based NG interface procedure.

[0084] When RAN#1 desires to establish a NG interface with the AMF, it may trigger a NG interface setup 401 procedure towards the AMF. For example, RAN#1 may generate a NG set up request message, which is a SCTP based message, and send the NG set up request message to the AMF at step 401a. Besides RAN configuration related information (e.g., supported tracking area list, and / or paging discontinuous reception (DRX) etc. ) , RAN#1 may also include first service related information in an exemplary NG set up request message. The first service related information may indicate the services supported by RAN#1, which can be invoked by the AMF or the like, e.g., over HTTP based SBI between RAN#1 and the AMF.

[0085] For example, exemplary first service related information at RAN#1 may indicate one or multiple services supported by RAN#1 over HTTP-based SBI as follows: - Data collection service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#1 to receive  or subscribe data, e.g., measurement data and / or prediction data provided by RAN#1. Accordingly, in an example, the service consumer, e.g., the AMF may subscribe to the resource status measurement and / or prediction (e.g., availability of radio resources, number of UE connections etc. ) of a certain cell belonging to RAN#1 by invoking the data collection service. In another example, for the purpose of AI / ML training, the service consumer, e.g., the AMF may request RAN#1 to provide historical measurements in the past period of time in a package and / or bulk; - Computing service that allows the service consumer, e.g., the AMF to request  RAN#1 to jointly perform a computing task or jointly perform AI / ML training (e.g., federate learning) using the computing resources at RAN#1; - Radio bearer management service, used to manage UP operations. For example,  the AMF may use the radio bearer management service to create, modify or release UE context; - Mobility management service used to provide the UE context management,  mobility management and multi-connectivity management; - Multicast broadcast service used to broadcast system information or multicast  business data; - Paging service used to provide the reachability of the UE; - Positioning service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#2 to request  RAN#1 to jointly determine the UE location; and / or - Ambient IoT service that allows the service consumer, e.g., the AMF to request  RAN#1 to support ambient IoT operation such as inventory management.

[0086] Similarly, the first service related information may also indicate the corresponding service profile for each service, which may contain the information related to how to invoke the indicated services. For example, the first service related information may indicate the service ID of each service instance, the names of services, the service version number, HTTP schemes for invoking the indicated services, endpoint address of instance (s) of each indicated service, and / or service status etc.

[0087] In the case that one IP address is used for multiple services (part or all services supported at RAN#1) , the first service related information may provide the IP address and port numbers separately applicable to the multiple services. Based on the IP address and port numbers, the AMF may establish a TCP connection with RAN#1 using the given IP address and port number before invoking any service, which is further identified by different URI addresses.

[0088] In the case that RAN#1 fails to support any service over HTTP-based SBI, or fails to support HTTP-based SBI at all, RAN#1 may explicitly indicate to the AMF that no service is supported at RAN#1 or the like by including an indicator in the first service related information.

[0089] At the AMF side, after receive the NG set up request message, the AMF may generate a NG set up response message, which is also a SCTP based message, and send the NG set up response message to RAN#1 at step 401b. Besides RAN configuration related information (e.g., served cell list, and / or neighbor RAN node list etc. ) , the AMF may also include third service related information in the NG set up response message. Similarly, the third service related information may indicate services supported at the AMF, which may be one or multiple of: - Data collection service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#1 to receive  or subscribe data, e.g., measurement data and / or prediction data provided by the AMF. For example, the service consume, e.g., RAN#1 can subscribe to the AMF overload measurement and / or prediction by invoking the data collection service provided by the AMF; and / or - Computing service that allows the service consumer, e.g., RAN#1 to request the  AMF to jointly perform a computing task or jointly perform AI / ML training (e.g., federate learning) using the computing resources at the AMF.

[0090] Similarly, the third service related information may also indicate the corresponding service profile for each service, which may contain the information related to how to invoke the indicated services. For example, the third service related information may indicate the service ID of each service instance, the names of services, the service version number, HTTP schemes for invoking the indicated services, endpoint address of instance (s) of each indicated service, and / or service status etc.

[0091] In the case that one IP address is used for multiple services (part or all services supported at the AMF) , the third service related information may provide the IP address and port numbers separately applicable to the multiple services. Based on the IP address and port numbers, RAN#1 may establish a TCP connection with the AMF using the given IP address and port number before invoking any service, which is further identified by different URI addresses.

[0092] In the case that the AMF fails to support any service over HTTP-based SBI, or fails to support HTTP-based SBI at all, the AMF may explicitly indicate to RAN#1 that no service is supported at the AMF or the like by including an indicator in the third service related information.

[0093] After the NG Interface between RAN#1 and the AMF is set up, one or both of RAN#1 and the AMF may further update the service related information at each side, e.g., updating the service types, service profiles, and / or other information related to service interactions over HTTP-based SBI.

[0094] In some implementations of the present disclosure, if RAN#1 updates the first service related information, RAN#1 may trigger a RAN configuration update procedure 403 towards the AMF over the NG interface to indicate the updated first service related information. For example, RAN#1 may send a RAN configuration update message at step 403a, including the updated first service related information. At the AMF side, after receiving the RAN configuration update message, the AMF may send a RAN configuration update acknowledge message over the NG interface at step 403b. If the AMF also updates the third service related information, the AMF may also include the updated third service related information in the RAN configuration update acknowledge message to RAN#1.

[0095] In some implementations of the present disclosure, if the AMF updates the third service related information, the AMF may trigger an AMF configuration update procedure 405 towards RAN#1 over the NG interface, which is also a SCTP based procedure. For example, the AMF may send an AMF configuration update message at step 405a, including the updated third service related information. At RAN#1 side, after receiving the AMF configuration update message, RAN#1 may send an AMF configuration update acknowledge message over the NG interface at step 405b. If RAN#1 also updates the first service related information, RAN#1 may also include the updated first service related information in the AMF configuration update acknowledge message to the AMF.

[0096] After receiving the first service related information (or the updated if any) from RAN#1, the AMF may invoke part or all of the services supported at RAN#1. Similarly, after receiving the third service related information (or the updated if any) from the AMF, RAN#1 may invoke part or all of the services supported at the AMF. Herein, it is assumed that RAN#1 is to invoke a data collection service supported at the AMF based on the received third service related information, e.g., by triggering a HTTP based SBI procedure 407 towards the AMF.

[0097] Specifically, at step 407a, RAN#1 may invoke the data collection service from the AMF by sending a HTTP based service request, e.g., a data collection subscribe request message over Nran to the corresponding address (e.g. FQDN, URI or IP etc. ) associated with the data collection service using the corresponding HTTP scheme or method. The data collection subscribe request message may include: - Information on the data to be collected, e.g., required cell resource status  measurement and / or prediction, or UE related L1 and / or L3 measurement result, etc.; and / or - Notification target address (s) (further with notification correlation ID in some  cases) , UE ID (s) (e.g., SUPI or internal group identifier or indication that any UE is targeted) , data collection ID, filter (s) associated with each data collection ID; subscription correlation ID (in the case of modification of the event subscription) , expiry time, list of group member UE (s) whose subscription to event notification (s) are removed or added for a group-based event notification subscription, and / or operation indication (cancellation or addition) , etc.

[0098] Based on the service request from RAN#1, e.g., the data collection subscribe request message, the AMF may perform the requested service, e.g., collecting the AMF side data as requested. At step 407b, the AMF may send a HTTP based service response, e.g., by a data collection notify message over Nran to RAN#1. The data collection notify message may indicate the requested data, e.g., in the format of string, array, or object etc. In another example, the data collection notify message may indicate fetching related information or fetch instruction information that contains the address information (e.g., URI etc. ) , so that RAN#1 can fetch the file containing the required data.

[0099] In the case that the AMF notifies RAN#1 with the fetch instruction information at step 407b, RAN#1 may trigger another HTTP based SBI procedure 409 towards the AMF. For example, RAN#1 may send a data collection fetch message to the AMF over Nran at step 409a, to fetch the file containing the requested data. The AMF may send the file containing the data at step 409b, e.g., by another data collection notify message over Nran to RAN#1, or via an IP tunnel in the operator network between nodes.

[0100] It is similar in the case that the AMF invokes services from RAN#1, and thus will not repeat.
