The emergence of livestreaming platforms like Twitch, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, and more recently, TikTok Live, has created new opportunities for content creators and audiences alike. These platforms allow users to broadcast live video to a global audience, enabling real-time communication and fostering a sense of community and immediacy. Livestreams can cover a wide range of topics, from gaming, music, and art to educational tutorials, news, and personal vlogs, making them incredibly versatile and appealing to diverse audiences.

The problem is compounded when major events overlap. For example, during a significant gaming tournament or a global event like a concert, multiple interesting streams might be live simultaneously. Viewers are then forced to choose one over the others, which can be disappointing and reduce overall engagement. This issue is not just a minor inconvenience; it affects viewer retention and satisfaction. Streamers also feel the impact, as they compete for viewers' attention, which can split their audience and reduce potential revenue. Additionally, better support and visibility for new or niche streamers could diversify the content landscape and provide viewers with more varied and interesting options. Given the above, it is clear that there exists a present need for a livestreaming platform which addresses the shortcomings described above.
[0011] OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0012] It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a system and method that seeks to, at least partially, overcome or lessen the above disadvantages and / or will be a useful alternative to existing platforms for displaying live digital content.
[0013] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0014] According to a first aspect, there is provided a digital media platform for displaying digital content in real time, the digital media platform comprising: a memory comprising machine-executable code; a graphical user interface communicatively coupled to a memory, wherein the graphical user interface is configured to display one or more media content representation; a classification module comprising machine executable code stored in the memory for classifying media content representations according to a type of media content to derive a classifier label; a labelling module comprising machine executable code stored in the memory, wherein the labelling module is configured to derive a location label for each media content representation in real time by calculating and updating a distance value between a user device and the location where the media content representation is generated, wherein the labelling module is further configured to perform continuous updates with low latency based on changes in the location of the user device; a selection module comprising machine executable code stored in the memory for allowing a user to select one or more media content representations based on one or more classifier label, location label, or a combination thereof; and a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to: a) display one or more media content representations on the graphical user interface; b) classify one or more media content representations using the classification module to derive one or more classifier labels; c) calculate, in real time, one or more distance values using the labelling module by comparing the location of the user device with a location associated with each media content representation, and derive one or more corresponding location labels; d) display one or more media content representations on the graphical user interface based on the derived location labels, wherein the display is updated continuously with low latency based on changes in the location of the user device; and e) enable a user to, via the selection module, select one or more media content representations according to one or more classifier label or location label, or classifier label and location label in combination.

The user credentials may be selected from the group consisting of a user name, user surname, user identification number, user avatar, user profile picture, user interest information, or combinations thereof. The messaging module may be facilitated by an Agora API for enabling real-time communication between users.

The user may only be granted access to their user profile of the digital media platform once they have been successfully authenticated.

[0025] According to a second aspect thereof, there is provide a method of displaying digital content in real time on a digital media platform, wherein the steps are performed by one or more processors executing machine-executable instructions stored in a memory of the digital media platform, the method comprising the steps of: a) displaying, on a user device having a graphical user interface, one or more media content representations associated with the digital media platform; b) classifying each media content representation, using a classification module, according to a type of media content displayable on the user interface to derive a classifier label; c) calculating a distance value by comparing the location of the user device to a location at which the media content representation is generated, and deriving a location label for each media content representation based on the distance value; d) displaying, on the graphical user interface, one or more media content representations based on the derived classifier label or the location label, or the derived classifier label and location label in combination, wherein steps (c) and (d) are performed continuously with low latency based on changes in the location of the user device to ensure responsiveness in media content display; and e) enabling a user, via a selection module accessible on the user interface, to select one or more of the media content representations according to the classifier label or the location label, or the classifier label and the location label in combination.

[0034] A non-limiting example of a preferred embodiment of the invention is described in more detail below, with reference to Figures 1 to 11 . With reference to Figure 1 , there is provided a digital media platform 2 which allows a user to either sign up or login with existing user credentials to utilise the platform. The second screen indicates that a user can also login using existing either an existing Apple or Google profile.
[0035] With reference to Figure 2, there is provided a first image of a geographical location 4 which is capable of being filtered with a series of buttons 6 to view a plurality of live streams. A dot included in each button serves to indicate that a livestream is currently active. Each stream instance 8 is capable of being indicated by individual map markers, but on zooming out, they will appear as a heat map when viewing a larger region. The second image displays various group names 12 whereby tapping on this card or button will direct the user directly to the stream. The group name icon 12 is also easily identified by it including a text description of the group particulars. Individual streams 14 not assigned to a group simply include an icon. Where several streams are included in the group, a user will be directed to the most popular or most viewed stream first. Where several streams are concentrated in a location, there is provided a button 16 indicating the number of claims that can be viewed when clicking on the button or zooming in on the map. The total number of streams 18 located in the geographical location can also be accessed by pulling up the list located at the bottom of the display (either by finger swipe up or clicking on the button).

A further button is provided to create a group 22. On selected the “Beach yoga” group 20 the user is subscribed to, a plurality of stream instances 24 for this group is displayed on the map. The filter for this particular group can be cancelled by clicking on the “X” icon provided. The user can also access a list of all live streams in this particular group 26 by pulling up display located at the bottom of the screen.

When streaming starts, the different settings are illustrated as individual buttons 38. Moreover, users can chat in the chat box 40 and the display screen shows how many members are streaming 42 and how many viewers 44 are watching this stream.

[0046] The invention as described is capable of being applied to any type of event that includes, for example, a long-distance race (i.e. a marathon) or the Dakar Rally. A unique group is created for each event at one or more locations associated therewith. Competitors partaking in the event will be able to stream their progress in real time while viewers can monitor the progress of fellow competitors have made in from the starting point to the current location or finishing location. In addition, a stream will be generated or initiated that shows each competitor’s point-of-view or cockpit view. Viewers will be enabled, through use of the platform, to freely switch between the streams in real time and can also view multiple streams simultaneously. The location tagging of all content (other than streams) allows for users to share moments / events with the extra factor of location sharing. This adds a layer of authenticity to content posts as it is inherently tied to a specific location. The location sharing aspect for normal events like music shows allow organizers to create a group for the event for marketing that will allow users to create content for the event in real time and allow organizers the ability to sell ad space on the event group page.
[0047] The above-mentioned features enable the invention to be a social media platform with real world communities as the focal point. It provides for real world communities that can gather in a real-world location that continuously share real world movements and experiences in real time to the rest of the community that is not able to attend events in person. It further also allows users to view live events in real time similar to a type of pay per view for events such as music festivals or other types of shows.

CLAIM1. A digital media platform for displaying digital content in real time, the digital media platform comprising: a memory comprising machine-executable code; a graphical user interface communicatively coupled to a memory, wherein the graphical user interface is configured to display one or more media content representation; a classification module comprising machine executable code stored in the memory for classifying media content representations according to a type of media content to derive a classifier label; a labelling module comprising machine executable code stored in the memory, wherein the labelling module is configured to derive a location label for each media content representation in real time by calculating and updating a distance value between a user device and the location where the media content representation is generated, wherein the labelling module is further configured to perform continuous updates with low latency based on changes in the location of the user device; a selection module comprising machine executable code stored in the memory for allowing a user to select one or more media content representations based on one or more classifier label, location label, or a combination thereof; and a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to: f) display one or more media content representations on the graphical user interface; g) classify one or more media content representations using the classification module to derive one or more classifier labels; h) calculate, in real time, one or more distance values using the labelling module by comparing the location of the user device with a location associated with each media content representation, and derive one or more corresponding location labels;i) display one or more media content representations on the graphical user interface based on the derived location labels, wherein the display is updated continuously with low latency based on changes in the location of the user device; and j) enable a user to, via the selection module, select one or more media content representations according to one or more classifier label or location label, or classifier label and location label in combination.
2. The digital media platform of claim 1 further comprising a user profile module comprising user credentials that are unique to a particular user.
3. The digital media platform of claim 2 wherein the user credentials is selected from the group consisting of a user name, user surname, user identification number, user avatar, user profile picture, user interest information, or combinations thereof.
4. The digital media platform of claim 1 further comprising a messaging module which allows for one user to transmit digital messages to one or more users.
5. The digital media platform of claim 4 wherein the messaging module is facilitated by an Agora API for enabling real-time communication between users.
6. The digital media platform of claim 1 further comprising a filter module which allows for a user to apply one or more filters that are applied dynamically in real time by the processor for filtering media content representations according to a user’s preference.

The digital media platform of claim 6 wherein the user preference is capable of being modified according to the user’s interests selected from the group consisting of adventure, sport, entertainment, music, travel, exploration, technology, fashion, business, economics, festivals, gaming, geocaching, wildlife, or combinations thereof.
8. The digital media platform of claim 6 wherein the user preference is capable of being modified according to the user’s predetermined distance from the current location of the user.
9. The digital media platform of claim 1 further comprising an encryption module which allows for data and information to be end-to-end encrypted.
10. The digital media platform of claim 1 further comprising an authentication module to allow a user to receive a unique code on their preferred digital device to authenticate their identity.11 . The digital media platform of claim 10 wherein a user is only granted access to their user profile of the digital media platform once they have been successfully authenticated.
12. The digital media platform of claim 1 wherein the user interface allows for a plurality of media content representations to be displayed at the same time.

14. The digital media platform of claim 13 wherein the graphical user interface is further configured to display stream density in a heatmap format when the map view is zoomed out.
15. The digital media platform of claim 12 wherein the plurality of media representations is displayed as a multicast or a multistream.
16. The digital media platform of claim 1 being capable of dynamically receiving user requests.

18. The digital media platform of claim 1 wherein the graphical user interface is further configured to allow a user to toggle between multiple simultaneous livestreams associated with the same event.
19. The digital media platform of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute a communications module that utilizes a REST API, the REST API being capable of being deployed on a server to enable communication between the digital media platform and one or more user devices.

The digital media platform of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute a data reception module that dynamically receives a datastream comprising user location data, the datastream enabling the real-time updating and display of media content representations on the user interface based on the user location data.
22. The digital media platform of claim 1 , wherein the graphical user interface further comprises a promotional content layer that is capable of being displayed as an overlay on the graphical user interface.
23. The digital media platform of claim 22, wherein the overlay comprises promotional content that is streamed in real time as an additional overlay that is superimposed over one or more real time streams.
24. The digital media platform of claim 23, wherein promotional content layer comprises a plurality of sections that are capable of being purchased by one or more purchaser for displaying promotional content.
25. The digital media platform of claim 24, wherein the cost of each section is associated with its size or display duration, or size and display duration in combination.

The digital media platform of claim 1 , wherein the continuous updates performed by the labelling module and the corresponding low-latency display of media content representations in step d) are executed with a latency between 200 milliseconds and 300 milliseconds upon detecting a change in user device location exceeding 5 meters.31 . The digital media platform according to any one of the preceding claims further comprising a server module comprising machine-executable code stored in the memory, the server module allowing for the classification, labelling, and selectionoperations to be performed remotely on a server and to transmit results in real time on a user device.
32. The digital media platform according to any one of the preceding claims wherein one or more APIs are secured using AuthO tokens to authenticate user access or API requests.
33. A method of displaying digital content in real time on a digital media platform, wherein the steps are performed by one or more processors executing machineexecutable instructions stored in a memory of the digital media platform, the method comprising the steps of: f) displaying, on a user device having a graphical user interface, one or more media content representations associated with the digital media platform; g) classifying each media content representation, using a classification module, according to a type of media content displayable on the user interface to derive a classifier label; h) calculating a distance value by comparing the location of the user device to a location at which the media content representation is generated, and deriving a location label for each media content representation based on the distance value; i) displaying, on the graphical user interface, one or more media content representations based on the derived classifier label or the location label, or the derived classifier label and location label in combination, wherein steps (c) and (d) are performed continuously with low latency based on changes in the location of the user device to ensure responsiveness in media content display; and j) enabling a user, via a selection module accessible on the user interface, to select one or more of the media content representations according to the classifier label or the location label, or the classifier label and the location label in combination.
34. The method of claim 33, wherein the calculation of the distance value and the derivation of the location label in step (c) are performed continuously and are triggered upon detecting a change in the location of the user device exceeding 5 meters, and wherein the calculation and derivation are executed with a latency between 200 milliseconds and 300 milliseconds.
35. A computer program product a machine-readable medium carrying instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform the method according to claim 33.
36. A data processing device comprising means for carrying out the steps of the method according to claim 33.
37. A computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to carry out the steps of the method according to claim 33.
